legal team. Why? Because he's in a snit over no bail and a bad cell. But guess what? You busted! D4VD now claiming his broke will not according to the tax documents. Good evening. I'm Nancy Grace. This is Crime Stories. I want to thank you for being with us. He has ripped her apart and there

she sits in this house. He blames the smell of this child's decomposing body on his bathroom. Hell yeah, it stinks. This is human remains that are decomposing, a true child, a human being. When you hear how much money this young man made, it's unbelievable. And so based upon the amount of money he made,

I personally found it deplorable when he transferred two homes out of his name. And the witness, the last witness on the stand, he was the one that advised the family to transfer the assets out of David's name to protect it from a civil lawsuit. They're still pursuing his career. They're hiring a new entertainment lawyer for the specific reason of continuing his mission. musical career. And how you do that behind bars, I don't know. But there's been millions of dollars that have flowed through this company, these companies that David owns. Oh, no, you didn't. Are you trying to fake out the court firing your high-profile defense lawyers while at the same time hiding money siphoning millions of dollars out of your private accounts.

So me, I and the taxpayers have to pay your legal bill. Ah, uh, uh, uh, uh, that from our friends at TMZ, joining us an all-star panel to make sense of what we know tonight. But let's just have a little reality check. Straight out to Joseph Scott Morgan, Professor Forensics, Jacksonville State University. He is a star of a hit podcast, and it's on YouTube. You can see it there, body bags with Joseph Scott Morgan. But for our purposes, he is a death investigator with over 10,000 death scenes under his belt.

Before we start talking about masterminding, moving money around, allegedly, what happened to Celeste Rivas? She was taken apart literally limb by limb, Nancy. And as a matter of fact, not only did that occur, but I think probably when we begin to explore what actually happened to her, it's how she came to her end in a very painful and lingering way, Nancy, because, you know, the one indication that the ME corner in L.A. has actually alluded to is a sharp force injury. that she has in the side of her chest. And this is actually an insult to the liver. This is not a quick death, Nancy.

This is something that would have taken a protracted period of time to bleed out from. So this is something that is going to take a protracted period of time to bleed out from. It would have, she would have languished. And then after that, allegedly, her body is disrespected to the point where she is essentially gathered together

in bags and placed inside of a trunk left to rot. And Joe Scott Morgan, could you explain very succinctly what a kiddie pool in D4VD, aka David Anthony Burke's garage has to do with this case? Containment. Containment because this is a messy affair. If you're talking about not just the insult, the sharp force injury insult that you're going to have quite a bit of blood from, we're talking about. we're talking about a body that is being rendered down, Nancy. And so that creates quite the mess.

I've been out on multiple scenes over the course of my career where I've had similar cases to this. And it creates a huge mess. So you would want to be able to contain this. And again, you know, not being an attorney or a psychologist, it does go to this idea that there was an awareness that this would be a messy affair. So you've got to prepare for it.

It's just disgusting that they would purposely transfer assets to avoid a potential civil judgment. And the amount of money that we heard about was just unbelievable. And I grossly underestimated David Anthony Burke's net worth. He has millions and millions of dollars. that from our friend Lauren calling on X. Busted. Do not mess with the tax man. Don't.

I've got in my hands a franchise tax account status indicating that the lawyer you were just hearing is absolutely correct. So, okay, to you Steve Fisher joining us, you know Steve Fisher very well. He

is the PI, the private eye. While the LAPD and others are doing this, he goes out and he goes from door cam to door cam and actually identifies D4VD at David Anthony Burks, Tesla being moved around the neighborhood so it won't get booted. Why? Because Celeste's body is decomposing in the trunk. He did that. Steve Fisher joining us tonight, owner of search investigations.

Steve, you've been to D4VD's. mansion. What do he make of his claim? I'm broke. I want a whole fleet of new lawyers. He's not broke. You know, he transferred these assets, which I think was to avoid civil litigation. There's two homes. You know, one of them is $850,000 home. The other is $375,000 home. Transfer into his mom. You know, I don't know exactly why he's making this play now, but this money's not going. If anything, all the people that didn't know David before this happened like myself, who have played his streams, have brought in a tremendous amount of revenue since this murder happened. He was the number one Googled person last year from all those new people.

That brings in revenue. His mom was looking for new revenue streams. If anything, if we're going to pay the price for his defense, which could be two lawyers if it's a death penalty case, then I think Colleen Burke, or his mom, needs to come and answer some questions about where these assets are and why they were transferred her. Interesting. You said that, Steve Fisher. Marissa Ray's joining us. She is a star of the light, true crime. Marissa, isn't it true that the mother

was not in court recently? Nancy, that is correct. She has never once appeared in that courtroom. And back to you, Steve Fisher, what questions, if you had the opportunity, would you pose to D4VD, David Anthony Burke's mother? I'd say, listen, the official transcript show that within days of Celestby found in that car, you were trying to raise $2 million in bail. You know, where did those funds go? Why would those houses transferred out of a trust that David's the trustee on into your name?

And where are those assets now? Have they been tapped into? Have they been leveraged? Has any of that gone towards the support of legal fees for David? Because they should. They were his assets. and what's happening to the incoming money since Interscope terminated his contract, they're no longer taken that money coming in from Spotify and everywhere else.

Where's that money going? Guys, tonight, D4VD, David Anthony Burke, for an unknown reason, fires all of his lawyers, his high-profile lawyers, and brings in a lawyer we are told he wanted that happens to be a public defender. Where is the money? Where has it gone? Has it been siphoned off and hidden? Is he still somehow landing recording deals and making money from behind bars? According to sources, he is. Back to Marissa Rays joining us from The Light True Crime. Marissa, what do you know? What happened when you went into court? Nancy, we went into court that morning, expecting to hear some updates, a very simple arraignment. Maybe we're going to hear an update on the death. if that will be applied. Will there possibly be a plea? That was a conversation in the hallway before going into the courtroom. So you can imagine the shock when we go to the courtroom.

The attorneys were back in session for quite a while in the morning that made us all question what was going on. And when they came back out, all of a sudden, David's attorneys are gone. A public defender is stepping forward. And my tax money is now going to pay for David Burke's defense, and I don't believe that he is broke. If anything, that phrase comes to mind, show me the money. Joining us tonight, Randolph Rice, high-profile defense lawyer, former prosecutor at Rice Law. Randolph Rice, thank you for being with us. You have represented many, many, let me just say, wealthy clients. What do you make of someone that is reportedly hiding 11, million dollars with the help of others. Others are helping, according to reports, helping him hide the money,

declaring indigency in court. I mean, come on, isn't enough that he allegedly murdered a 14-year-old girl? Is that not enough? Now he's got to hide money, too? According to reports, $11 million? Nancy, I love you, but I think your reasoning is flawed here. And here's a a couple reasons why. First off, Mr. Burke probably does not have access to any of those accounts that are making money right now. They're either being held by a trustee or somebody appointed by the court or possibly a family member and that does not get considered when determining if you're eligible for a public defender. Secondly, real estate, if it's real estate, you can't snap your finger and turn a house into money. We all know that in this market right now. You can't sell a house

because of the high interest rate. So that money is not accessible. They did a finance Emancial evaluation. Put him up. They sold houses. They've got the money. One of the houses worth that reported $850,000. So did you, Celeste Rivas' body was in a kiddie pool in the garage.

And all the while, they are trying to make recording deals for him from behind bars. they're trying to find ways to leach more money and hide it according to reports. Those houses have been sold. So don't start telling me, oh, it's a really bad market. I don't give a flying fig about the market. And don't tell me, Randolph Rice, that he could have $11 million in accounts, but he can't access them.

BS. You can't just put somebody else's name on $11 million to claim you can't get it. Well, if the tax code and the codes in California are set up that way, you can. You can move money around. But here's the more important thing. That financial evaluation that the public defender's office did found that he did not have the assets. And let me just give you a little behind the curtain here. $800,000 is probably not enough money to represent him.

We're talking about probably a defense from private attorneys of at least a million dollars here. So you're telling me the family's going to spend all their money on defending their son. it just doesn't make sense. And that's why he's got a public defense. Why do you keep doing that, Randolph? Why do you keep ignoring the facts? $11 million. I just mentioned the $850,000 figure because that's what the house was worth. There's the little problem for D4VD that he's got a million dollars. He's sitting on it like gold, like a dragon on its gold. I don't think it's there. I think he blew it. The lifestyle that he was living, the way he probably thought he's young. I don't care what happens in the future.

He blew through that money. I doubt that that money is there and he has access to it. And that's the other important thing here. Does he have access to it? Did it get transferred to a family member? And in the evaluations, they don't look at what your family's got. They look at what you got, what you got. And if you're penniless, you get a public defender.

It wouldn't be the first time a high-profile lawyer dumped his client over money. What we've learned, and you can take this to the bank, is that pursuant to the laws of this state, pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder. Print that. She is the star of, let's talk about it with Dr. Janie Lacey. Dr. Janie, it seems wrong that in the midst fact-finding about what happened to Celeste, how this child was ordered up like a pizza, like Chinese food, she shows up like Uber eats on an Uber, and that night she's dead. this little girl who, according to reports,

has been pregnant by D4VD, got an abortion orchestrated by D4VD, was taken out of the country across state lines with the knowledge from her parents allowing it with D4VD. Now she's dead

because she thought, if you look at her ring finger, Dr. Janie, this little girl was wearing a little engagement ring. Let's see that, please. So in her mind, they were going to live happily ever after. Like the white picket fence, the house,

the children, the dog, the works. She's dead. She's been disarticulated. Rendered. Her body, her remains, were found in D4VD's Tesla in the front, the front trunk.

Like an old piece luggage to decompose. But yet, in a cold and calculated move, D4VD, David Anthony Burke, with his financial advisors, they're not worried about Celeste. They're worried about his money. You know, Nancy, when I think about money, especially in cases like this, I think about financial concealment. To me, it's not just a legal strategy. It's a control tactic. If we look at individuals, behaviors, and their patterns like a David Burke, I see it consistently in my work with women who untangle themselves from controlling partners, right? They move the money.

They obscure the money. Make the truth impossible to pin down. So to me, whether it's happening in a marriage or allegedly in this courtroom, it's the same. You control the narrative by controlling what people can prove. And if the account is accurate, I mean, what we're watching to me, me isn't a man out of money. We're watching someone managing their perception the same way the prosecutors allege he manages everyone else. So I believe it's about his image and it's about control versus it truly being about money, Nancy. Another issue to Justice Scott Morgan, when we talk

about us footing the bill for D4VD while he's allegedly hoarding at least $11 million. It's all gone. where did it go? It's not just the lawyers we're going to have to pay for. I mean, Dave Matt, try to tally this up. Get out your calculator. How much the Brian Coburger fiasco cost us?

Jessica Morgan, it's not just the lawyers. It's a whole fleet of forensics experts. We are going to have to pay for holding our nose because we're remembering Celeste Rivas. And we got to pay for that. I mean, what will the forensics team entail?

And what kind of money am I looking at? Yeah. Thanks for letting me address this, Nancy. People generally don't think about this, but just dig this for a second. Murder, in my opinion, at least, for potential perpetrators or alleged perpetrators is a luxury item. And here we go. So in this particular case, what you would need is going to be probably a forensic pathologist, a forensic anthropologist, a toolmark expert, probably a DNA person. And in addition to that, maybe even a blood spatter,

splatter expert. And here's how this kind of cost breaks down. So you're talking about 250 to maybe upwards of $600 per hour. And the way this works is if, if just we have an expert that the attorney wants to call up and engage, a five minute, a five minute, a five minute conversation on the phone. If they're making 300 bucks an hour, guess what, baby? We don't pro-rate that. It's $300, whether you talk for an hour or whether you talk for five minutes. And then they have to generate, they could do their own testing, which is an additional cost. They have to generate their own report. And we haven't even gotten into the cost of the testimony. There are a lot of these people out there that work as experts. The clock starts ticking when they're walking out the door to go to the airport.

and it doesn't stop until they wind back up at home. So he's on the clock. She's on the clock the entire time. That's why this accrues at such a volume that most people can't understand it. You know, not everybody's O.J. Simpson. You know, you can't go out and hire, you know, God rest of soul, Dr. Henry Lee, you know, because you don't have those resources. This guy's talking about dealing with the public defender.

And that alone in and of itself indicates to me. that you're going to have to go out and beg, borrow, and steal to get anybody that's going to want to stand and do testing and offer up testimony that could have the court look in a different direction from what the prosecution is putting forward. It is a very, very costly affair, thanks. Speaking of forensics expert, this is a tiny taste of what they're dealing with. Today was an absolutely crushing day in the preliminary hearing, the evidence that was put on by the prosecutor was absolutely damned, showing the images of Celessa's decomposed body in the trunk of the Tesla and the parents were sitting there. And it was just absolutely horrible. but they wanted to show strength and they're here for Celeste. He was asked if he could identify any facial features and he said no, it was so badly decomposed because of skin slippage is what he called it.

We also saw a close-up of her hands. We saw the fingers that were amputated. You know, we saw the finger as well from the other hand. And yeah, it was, it was tough. But again, he, he had his eyes just glued to the screen. Deputy Juan Gonzalez from the sheriff's department in LA, who was told to go to David's house based on the investigation that the Riverside Sheriff's Department was doing when Celeste went missing. So we saw body cam from that where basically, you know, he talked to David and David kind of said, yeah, she told me she was 18. But then I heard she was 13.

We see the photo of her, by the way, that yearbook photo. man apparently she's in sixth grade there she looks younger you guys she looks much younger um she had this batman zip-up sweatshirt on that was just again um yeah it was meant for a little kid i thought she was 18 she told me she was 13 yet he still got her pregnant even though she told him she's 13 everyone around him knew celeste was a minor now celeste is dead her body decomposed in his trunk. That callous, callous treatment. I mean, Joe Scott Morgan, the murky methods, what a forensics team is going to have to deal with is going to be probably hundreds, if not thousands of hours of work. And now I have to pay for D4BD to potentially

walk free from this. Yeah, you're right. And it's going to be, you know, to say it's a amount of data to go through. It is. I mean, just think, Nancy, how long it's taken for us, the public, to see any kind of data about this. And the reason I think that they were so slow has to do with everything they were having a process because they didn't, they couldn't fully conceptualize what they were having to deal with because the body was in such an advanced state of decomposition. So you have to be very, very careful. Joe Scott. Yes, ma'am. There's no nice way to put it. put it, and this is how I would put it to a jury if I had to, if I had to.

Her body was bones and goo. Yeah. Yeah. That's what the forensics experts are going to have to deal with. They're going to need a forensic entomologists to determine the age of the blowflies on her body. Go ahead. Yeah, the entomology, which I didn't mention, kind of goes hand-in-hand with the anthropologist. Here's another big one, Nancy, digital forensics.

I mean, we haven't even touched on that. So they're going to have to have their own expert that will go mono-a-mono with the state's digital people to try to make their way through that. You're showing the Tesla here. This is a great example, right? So you've got digital experts that are out there that can talk about these things. What if you've got to bring in somebody that's a specialist in Teslas? How many times have we talked about all of the cameras that could have been engaged on this particular vehicle? You know, the movement of the vehicle.

You had mentioned this earlier with Steve, you know, moving the vehicle around so that it's not necessarily associated with him. And everywhere that damn phone went with him or her phone or anybody that occupied that space in the house. Just to try to understand this, you complicate it even further with things that's very granular like DNA and all that. And we haven't even talked about tool marks on bodies. Yeah, this, you can see the numbers just racking up here. here dollar by dollar by dollar. Somehow experts must be hired by the defense to show how Celeste did or did not end up in the four BD's trunk. As you can see here, we did our own expert, that's our friend Scott Eicher, who mapped out and very carefully determined how

Celeste ended up in the trunk. Recreys are expensive. Joe Scott Morgan, do you remember the last re-creation? You and I did? It was about Ellen Greenberg. And it took days for you to set up at Jacksonville State University. Days, it took me, I don't, a day, two days to go through the recree with you. And it's all got to be filmed to bring into the courtroom. Then the defense will probably want a videographer. I mean, you and I just did it on the slide, but they're going to want professional videography, the whole shebang. And guess what? We, the taxpayers, are going to pay for it because according to reports, Dave Matt, Crime Stories Investigated Reporter, D4VD, and others are siphoning off money. This is he is riffing from behind bars making more money and hiding it.

Really? Hit me, Dave. Nancy, the entire situation with D4VD claiming to be indigent and qualifying for a public defender goes beyond anything we can imagine. Just look at, you know, his estimated net worth, Nancy, prior to all of this starting was somewhere between 2 and 4 million. But since all of this, remember, we've got $11 million coming from the record deal. just that one deal, Interscope, $11 million. He has corporate holdings, Nancy. Now, these are records that are in the public now where he is listed as the owner and director.

Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Whoa, Nelly. I want to go back to that. Did I just actually see D4VD having someone rub oil on him as he's wearing? I love boobs T-shirt. Well, I... Okay, I just had to pause. this is a guy who went into a snit because his high-priced lawyers couldn't get him bail

and he wanted a new sale. I guess he does because he's been living in this Hollywood mansion with this fleet of assistance and suck-up surrounding rubbing oil on him and catering to his every whim. I don't get it. That's a whole other question for Dr. Janie

about how you send your kid, your teen, your teen, to live in some people say, city, the den of iniquity. I don't say that. We're talking about L.A. I thought Vegas had that title, but that said, you go send your teen to live in L.A. No chaperone, no anything. Okay, Dave Mac, I just had to point out. I don't know if you can see your monitor because

you're in the field, but there are people rubbing oil on D4BD and he's wearing his I love boobs t-shirt. Okay, Dave Mac, back to you. money. All right. Back to this. The financial situation looks like this, Nancy. He got $11 million in the Interscope deal alone. Now remember, his claim to fame was on multi-platforms, particularly, you know, YouTube, TikTok, the videos that he was making. That's what launched his entire career. And we have no real accounting on that money. He has corporate holdings. Now, These are companies where David Anthony Burke is listed as the owner and or director,

D4VD Entertainment, Skull Rose Merchandising, and Headspace Publishing. In the time leading up to September 2025, each one of these was making bank. Remember the shirts that we showed in our coverage, the bloodstained shirts, all that money going through one of these companies headed up by David Anthony Burke. His music earnings, Nancy, we're looking at Interscope revealing that Burke has earned at least 10 million over the last two and a half years. Overall, the contract was valued at nearly 19 million before they terminated it. And I would like to point out that none of it was terminated until after Celeste Rebus was identified as the girl in David Anthony Burke's trunk. frunk and kind of boggles the mind they waited until that date not the day a body was found in their singer's car the asset transfers you've already mentioned this briefly the court records

indicate that david anthony burke's family transferring ownership of his real estate that would be burke's real estate and properties into his mother's name and all of this happening right after authorities searched his residences. That just gives you the overall look at financial structure. Okay. I'm just trying to figure out how much money he would get if he recorded lyrics from behind bars and had somebody on the outside lay in the music, i.e. his little brother, who has now been drafted to fill his shoes in the music industry? How much money would a behind bars set from D4VD rake in? Isn't it true to Marissa Reyes joining us?

Star of the Light True Crime? Isn't it true that there are reports he is making music from behind bars and his family is trying to think of ways to capitalize off his imprisonment? Correct. We heard that his mother, Colleen Roberts Burke, was still having a lawyer to try to find an entertainment representation for him while he's been locked away this entire time. And it proves the question, is this actually proving that there has been the financial gain special circumstance in this case by this fact alone, by trying to claim that he is suddenly broke. He cannot pay for

his defense. But he's had all this time since before he was arrested in April, he was out there. He was holed up in another Hollywood mansion and we don't know what he was doing there, making more music, preparing for if he was going to be arrested. He had a lot of time to make plans to make income once he was arrested. So Dr. Janie joining us tonight licensed psychotherapist life counseling solutions.

How do you send your son away to live alone and unshaparant? Let me confirm that. Steve Fisher joining us who's been on this case and really cracked a lot of the evidence and handed it over to the LAPD on a silver

platter. He is the owner of search investigation is it true that he was basically completely unshaparoned in that home? He could keep Celeste hold up in the bedroom day and night. In fact, she actually texted him, I want more for myself other than just hanging out and having sex with you. Yeah, I mean, really the only person overseeing him was Rob Morgan Rath, his co-manager who was living in the house,

who we know, we've heard from McCowness, said the only thing he was concerned about was making sure that the tour went on as planned, which means, you know, revenue coming in. And there's also, you know, from the first day testimony, it came out that the financial advisor asked Rob what happened. And Rob told him, you know, what happened. And he changed his grand jury testimony. So, you know, there's people that I think know a lot of information about what he did and how he was living and secrets he was holding. And they were living right in the house with him. So he didn't have anybody that was keeping him in check. Dr. Janie Lacey, how does that happen?

Well, Nancy, I have a lot to say about that, but I'll keep it short. You know, I think when you remove guardrails, we actively teach young people that the normal rules and the normal consequences, the normal, like, you don't get to have what you want. I mean, those are for other people. And to me, that's the definition of entitlement. That's not ambition. That's not confidence. You know, so I could make some assumptions about the things. family dynamics. But I think when we look at entitlement, a genuine belief that access and obedience

and forgiveness are owed to you rather than they're earned. And entitlement is exactly what erases boundaries, Nancy. It's what lets someone look at a 13 year old and see an option instead of a child. It's what let someone allegedly calculates that a life is worth less than a career. So I look at the ego, you know, and all those things that on their own, they don't just build a criminal, but entitlement with zero accountability around it. Nobody close enough like family are brave enough to ever say no. That's the environment where boundary violations stop feeling like violations at all. And I'll just leave it right there, Nancy.

But how long did Celeste date D4VD? And who gave permission for her to travel out of the country as a child with D4VD?

Well, Celeste first encountered David online at the age of 11. And I want to commend you because you always refer to her as a young girl, a child. And too many people refer to her as a woman or try to point her that she was able to make a decision to consent to this relationship, which it was not. That had to be an abusive relationship. However, there were guardianship, not guardianship papers, but papers signed so that she could. could travel out of the country by both of her parents to go overseas. We also know that she traveled with David within the United States to his home in Texas after that out of country trip. So there was knowledge from the family as well of her whereabouts at some point.

And we do understand that with this preliminary hearing, we got a lot of new information. However, we do feel that we still are just scratching the surface of what was actually known. There's so much more to learn. A big key here is that there's 40 terabytes. When we talk about the cost of this case and the cost of experts, we also have to look at the 40 terabytes of data and what is in that. We also know that there is a wiretap on this case. There's more information from a grand jury that we don't know about yet. The grand jury was not really allowed to be mentioned during the preliminary hearing. So how much more is there that we have yet to uncover. to find out exactly what happened where this young girl had access to this star in the Hollywood Hills and things went the way they did.

it doesn't, it doesn't add up from an investigative standpoint. I think that other people, I think that other people have knowledge of this, and I'm very curious to see how the authorities in L.A. are leveraging that knowledge. They sometimes have the ability to go and look in those accounts to see how much money is there. And if they're not satisfied that there's enough there to qualify, then that's when ultimately they say, yes, you do qualify for a public defender. And that seems to be the situation here. Now, there is sometimes a lot of self-reporting. And self-reporting often, as we know, sometimes cannot be true. But that's what they will rely on to move forward with providing a public defender.
