Starting point is 00:00:00 Today we are doing late ADP risers. You already know Mike Washington and Dejohn's stribling events, steven up the boards. Who else is making the late August ADP Ascent? We're going to give you 12 guys today on this episode of Fantasy Football Daily with Brett and Scott. As always, don't forget to subscribe to the channel. Click the notification bell so you don't miss a single episode from the best Fantasy Football Channel in the entire industry.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Today I am joined with my usual co-host, Scott Barrett, the best analytical mind in the space. What's up, Scott? What's up, Brad? How are you? I'm doing good, man. Look at you with the pleasantries today. You know, normally it's me, you know, kind of get into that, but you want to know
Starting point is 00:00:50 how I'm doing. It's been a good week. I'm going on vacation next week. Where are you going, Brad? Going to Grand Haven. It's right on Lake Michigan. It's a really great town. We get the same Airbnb every year.
Starting point is 00:01:02 It's like a big, it's like an eight or nine bedroom house. We get both sets of grandparents out there with the kids. And it's pretty awesome. Well, I hope you have a wonderful time. You know, it's right before I don't leave my office for six months. It kind of feels like, you know, like being a farmer in like the 16th century where it's like the winter's coming. And there's like a real chance you might die. And so you just have to get everything in place and here late August, you know, week one right around the corner.
Starting point is 00:01:38 But I'm excited for it. Oh, yeah. I did the fantasy points data team kickoff call last night. And it's, I was just talking on the call about how it's bittersweet, right? It's like your freedom's ending, but it's also great because football's back. So it's like this give and take. But yeah, we love it. We love it.
Starting point is 00:02:00 It's why we do it. Well, what are we talking about today? ADP risers, man. So we're going to jump in. We got 12 guys to go through. And I think are we going to use this opportunity to demo the front office tool while we're talking? Yeah, I think so. So that's what we're looking at right here.
Starting point is 00:02:16 It's our new sort of league importer draft dominator tool. And this one is just basically the ADP page. It's actually technically not ADP. It's the true value of each player. We have this for Dynasty. We have this for redraft. It's like a blend of actual draft ADP, but also all the trades that have been made. And so yeah, it's like you have, I don't know, 100 Jamar Chase trades over the past four months.
Starting point is 00:02:50 You have 100 Malik neighbors. And it just looks at who each player was traded for. And it gives you a more accurate, more up to the minute look at these players. and what their worths are, what their values are. So clearly, Jamir gives most valuable player in redraft right now. But it's the left, you'll see risers and even below that fallers. And here it's over the last 30 days in redraft leagues, looking at as a percentage of value gained.
Starting point is 00:03:21 And the top riser over the past 30 days is Mike Washington, then it's Parker Washington, and then it's Steve O'S Samuel and Stefan Diggs. to Jean Stribling. But before we dug into this, I actually kind of wanted to talk about, you know, my thoughts on this, on this episode, ADP risers. And like, I just want to say if we could pull it up on the screen here, a thread that I've done for years is the ADP risers always suck Brett.
Starting point is 00:03:55 I talked about this on our preseason episode. Is like, they're always wrong. last year. Actually, last year was actually a pretty good year, but it was like Jacori Kroski Merritt, Jordan Mason, Braylon Allen, Isaac Tesla, Tori Horton. And like, that was a really good year. If you click on the, if you go below that, I have it for 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021. And like, there are just years where there's not a single hit. There's the Marquez Calloway a year famous you know some of these are just a year early on look at this well that's that's say and pickings the year before you had colby parkinson on there it's just a year early man we
Starting point is 00:04:38 you know co Kobe parkinson has never been fantasy relevant in my opinion did he score like eight touchdowns last year well so best ball maybe but yeah but in a you know upside matters is these fringe like mid-range tight end twos like unless you're in a weird league or a best what league don't really matter. But yeah, and so I think this kind of harkens back to what we talked about a few times where we sort of like ranted about how like this the beat writer stuff doesn't matter. Like coach speaking beat writer stuff is just overrated. Like unless unless it's actual team sources, which it rarely is, it's just like a beat writer's opinion where he's just like, oh, Woody marks has kind of looked good the last two weeks. Yeah, I think I think he'll get 20
Starting point is 00:05:23 touches per game. And I think David Montgomery is going to get 22 touches. per game and it's like well math doesn't work um and but it's it's that it's also uh shout out charlie munger the goat uh show me the incentive i'll show you the outcome oh so for like a lot of these beat riders it's like i love nick underhill but if you and like i'm not accusing him of doing anything but it's like just like the way that it works is like people don't want to hear like you know tyler shucks actually really struggled in practice and like i'm i i i can kind of think this team is going to be below X-wait. Like you have a bunch of fans reading yourself.
Starting point is 00:06:01 They don't want to hear that. They want to hear, hey, the rookie that we just drafted is the best player on the team. The fantasy eligible round one pick is unbelievable. And so like beat writers have this incentive where like, like you're gonna get way more clicks. The more pro you are, the more you're, and you're gonna get fantasy clicks
Starting point is 00:06:20 if it's a fantasy eligible guy. And they really don't like imagine being a Jets fan, right? Like, because I, living in new jersey like it's like every year there was jet's optimism and i'm like this is ridiculous or giant's opting like this is ridiculous these teams are going to suck but it's like because people don't want to read your team's going to suck for the 10th year in a row and so basically all i'm saying is like what you there's some like tea leaf reading that's necessary i think for the most part the fantasy community really overreacts to this stuff and it's not that important but there
Starting point is 00:06:52 is some you know tea leaf reading i think when it's when it's a guy you think you think you think think like you're pretty confident sucks like Sky Moore or Elijah Moore or Marquez Callaway or Brian Edwards. It's it's yeah. Like it's it's it's we have a much larger sample of this guy not being anything. I don't really care about three joint practices. I don't really care about him catching three balls and preseasoning against backups. It's like such a small sample and a ready small sample. So yeah, I'll just. Scott, is there's there's good this is an X's a nose component too for the beat writer. Oh, let's hear it.
Starting point is 00:07:29 So like, okay, say I take you to Detroit Lions practice. Okay, we're sitting in the end zone. It's red zone period. They come in the red zone. And let's say Jared Goff throws five jump balls to Isaac Tesla in a row in the end zone. Yeah. What's your takeaway as a fantasy guy? He's going to be heavily used inside the red zone.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Right. So every beat writer there writes that exact same thing. Here's the reality. Coach thinks the red zone package stinks. Isaac Tesla is struggling to bring the ball down and contested situations. So we're coming out of this team period with the intention of, we're going to give Isaac six opportunities to catch the ball right now. And we're practicing this for if we have to use it in a game,
Starting point is 00:08:12 maybe it's there and maybe we don't. Maybe it gets completely struck from the playbook because that plays not working. Yeah. So the, like the beat writer, there are beat writers that know X's and O's. They've played football. But if you haven't spent a lot of time in a practice situation, or setting as a player.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Like, you've no idea the intention of every drill. There's drills where they'll put the fourth string guy first in the drill. And then you get some beat writer running. Wow. You know, so and so pass so and so on the depth chart. He's running ahead of them in drills. Well, that's not necessarily true. May have just got out of order.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Like there's so many easy ways that your eyes can lie to you if you don't have the depth of knowledge to kind of ascertain what you're seeing. It's, uh, anyways. Yeah. Yeah. Isn't it the case that B-Writers really have like a limited amount of access to practice and what they can report on as opposed to pre-COVID days? Training camp, you know, any training camp practice, they get full access.
Starting point is 00:09:09 They're there for the whole practice, just like the fans are, right? But once the season starts, so like everyone's training camp ended today, effectively. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, at least the day we're recording this. I don't know when this particular video drops. But, yeah, so now from here on out, they get like the first 30 minutes of practice, which won't be any install, won't be any X's and O's. It's going to be mostly warm up and maybe some seven on seven stuff.
Starting point is 00:09:32 But like, yeah, you're not going to be able to see anything. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And so basically all this is is like it requires some tea leaf reading. It's be skeptical if a guy, you're pretty sure Stanks is now like the number one training camp, hype darling who gained two rounds in ADP. Be a little skeptical if it's, you know, maybe like a fantasy eligible rookie.
Starting point is 00:09:55 but like this is going to be a really valuable show because Brett and I we put some time to this show sheet we picked out names that we really feel strongly and confidently in and you know I think we can capture the important nuance here so yeah it's not to say that ADP risers and fallers isn't important it's just that this this is the episode you want to be listening to here on fantasy football Daily with Brett and Scott. You want to talk about this first name on the list, the biggest riser, Mike Washington? Yeah, I knew you're going to toss to me because I know you don't want to talk about him. Well, you know what?
Starting point is 00:10:35 Actually, let me talk about, let me talk about, let me talk about Mike Washington, okay? So if we can pull it on the screen, he has literally one of the worst analytics profiles I've ever seen from a round four running back. on the screen here, I comped him to Josh Hokit, who's currently the number six ranked UFC heavyweight. These are all like, yeah. And then if you click the quoted tweet, it's Mike Washington versus all day one, day two running backs over the last 12 years,
Starting point is 00:11:07 12 percentile yards after contact per attempt, dead last mistackles force per touched, dead last career schedule adjusted yards per carry. And so the analytics profile, is really, really awful. You know, some of the schedule-adjusted yards per carry is awful. But what really happened, basically, was he was a small school guy who absolutely did nothing.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And then he had a big final year of his career. And then he blew up the combine. And I've said this before. Like, I don't want this to seem like I really hate Mike Washington. Because because because I really do. think you're the best film guy in the game and that matters a ton and i think part of the issue is college football there's no fantasy points data for college football college football data is like wildly inaccurate it's not very good and so i can only ever be as good as the data i'm given
Starting point is 00:12:05 and this isn't great data and there are outliers and and so um that that's where i stand on mike was a guy you were you were very high it seemed well yeah high relative to the class the class was a little after Jeremy I love. So, yeah, I don't know. You're talking about schedule adjusted yards per carry. I mean, he had, when he got to the SEC, he averaged 6.4 yards per carry on a garbage team in Arkansas. Yeah. And that's impressive.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Okay. So I know New Mexico State wasn't pretty. I know Buffalo wasn't pretty, but those are lower level comps with the further down the mainstream rabbit hole you get, the worst the data gets too. by the way. So like, okay, you know, power four. Yeah, give me a stat. Why not? You're the stat guy. Okay. So, uh, since, uh, since 2007, there's only been one drafted player to ever average below five yards per carry on over at least 150 carries with the strength of schedule below the 25th percentile. It was Mike Washington.
Starting point is 00:13:20 twice. And it was it was well below five yards per carry is four point two in 2022 is four point six in 2024 whatever I don't think this really matters now and like preseason I'm saying doesn't matter but it's it's a lot but it's not totally irrelevant and your film uh your film take really takes really do matter to me so so that's important but it's yeah the bad analytics profile we don't want to double triple count that. Yeah, let's not bury the lead either here. Why are we even talking about Mike Washington Jr.? It's because Ashton Jente got hurt.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Oh, yeah, what an awful lead bearing by me. Yeah, so I was at the airport when this went down. And if you'll remember, it's like people thought his career was over. Like he went down in practice. There was a prayer circle forming around him that looked really, really bad. And my initial thought was, I wish I was home and I could be in an FFPC draft right now. because the takes on Twitter were like, you can't draft Ash and Gene T today.
Starting point is 00:14:24 I would take him in round 14. And these are like best ball bros. This is why best ball bros drive me crazy? Like you're not even good at best ball. If that's your take in a format with a $1 million grand prize and you wanna be, you know, someone with a round seven Mike Washington competing against all the round 15 Mike Washington's,
Starting point is 00:14:46 instead of one of the teams with a round eight Ash and Jinty instead of all the competing against all the teams of the round two, Ash and Gndt. It's just like the worst game theory ever. You just do not understand the game of fantasy football. And so, so yeah, shout out to my guy of B-Baggitoba, who won the FFPC, Big Gorilla, two years in a row. That's a million dollars right there. He got around eight Ash and Genty because of the panic, the blood in the streets.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Shout out Charlie Munger once again. And, and yeah, that's, and so, yeah, I was at the airport and so I'm like, oh, crap, do I have to adjust my rankings or whatever? I worked my sources. I worked my sources. If we could pull this up on Discord. I work my sources and I got the Adam Schepter scoop a good three hours before Adam Schaefter. I didn't tweet it out. I gave it to our Discord subscribers.
Starting point is 00:15:43 They were calling me Scoop Barrett. say I got shooters everywhere. So yeah, that's apparently one of the perks of being a fantasy point subscriber is you kind of get to hear these news a few hours before it hits the mainstream. You know, I was telling everyone to get an FFPC draft. I was I was jealous. I was in an airport and I couldn't do that. But but yeah, so where do we stand today is it's a low ankle sprain, Brett.
Starting point is 00:16:11 He's 50-50 for a week one, basically. It keeps moving down the leg, though. Are you sure it's not going to turn into a Liz Frankenry all of a sudden? Right? I started like knee. Then it was like, oh, it's high ankle. Then it was low ankle. Now it's like, what if it goes to the foot?
Starting point is 00:16:27 What if it spreads? Listen, I have a take. It's a real take. I think you're going to love it is I feel like this is almost just still a red flag. Because like, isn't he kind of a pussy? Like imagine imagine how pissed like his teammates or bro, you made me do it. prayer circle over a low ankle strain? Are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:16:48 And so like is, is Ash and Genty kind of a wussy? I don't know. I don't know, but hey, he's probably gonna play week one. He's definitely gonna play week two. In which case, like Mike Washington just kind of goes back to being a handcuff. And here is my point on Mike Washington is like, it wasn't just that he had a bad analytics profile.
Starting point is 00:17:08 It was, but it was also that he was never a volume guy. That's true, that is true. And so like, I don't know. that if Ashton Jenty were to go down, he would come in and be the full-on bell cow. I feel like it would be some sort of committee. And so, yeah, this isn't one I really, I guess, agree with or as a player, I feel the need to go out of my way to target. And by the way, even if I'm wrong on all this, it's still like what was easily the worst offensive line in football last year. But I don't know. Maybe Maybe you saw something in preseason and you're like, no, this Mike Washington special, but I don't.
Starting point is 00:17:49 I wouldn't say special. I would. Yeah. When we thought Gentie would miss some time, I thought Washington put enough on tape for me to be like, yeah, that's, that's a good, that's a good play. But it was never, I never presumed it would be long term with Gentie anyway. So yeah, Washington, you know, I think he looks like an acceptable backup running back. Like in fantasy football, it's not even really about talent. It's about opportunity, you know.
Starting point is 00:18:12 So if he had the opportunity, I'd be fine with Washington. It doesn't look like he's going to get it though. So I don't know why he's like he should be the faller on this list actually. No, I mean, seriously, with Gentis's injury being less severe than we thought, he should be the faller and Gentis should be the riser. But I get that's not the world we live in. No, actually, yeah, Ash and Jeentie is a big faller even still today. Like he's come down a lot.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Yeah, it's again, it was like just a massive overreaction and there hasn't really been a strong correction. And Mike Washington, why he's here is like, yeah, there was a, it was eight hours, basically, but there was a ton of blood in the streets, a ton of panic where Ashen Genti owners were trading for Mike Washington with massive overpays. But let's get to the next name on the list, because this is one we both agree, absolutely should be a riser. Yeah. Dejean shribling is the next on our list.
Starting point is 00:19:04 It isn't the next you see on this riser sheet, but you're throwing a flag. Deshawn. Dejohn. Dejohn. Okay. Dejan, yep. Dejean. Dejean.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Dejean. Dejean. There you go. Dejaun. What's a favorite kind of mustard? That's Dejan. Gray Poupon. This is Dejohn.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Okay. Sorry. Yeah. Go ahead. And I did, just so everyone knows, I went to the 49ers website and got the pronunciation guide to even have a clip of him saying his own name. It's Dejan. Dejan. Dejan stribling.
Starting point is 00:19:37 You know who doesn't do that? Who? The guy who mispronounces. three names an episode. No, I did, dude, on first read, I do the same thing and I get, I get killed for it. So I've been taking it a little bit more seriously. I even have a listener who sends me pronunciation guides just so I get them right, you know. Yeah, I'm just going to lean into it.
Starting point is 00:19:53 This is now part of the fantasy football daily drinking game every time Scott mispronances. You got to chug a beer. I was impressed you got through the Genty conversation without saying gene tea. So that was nice. This baby steps, right. Yeah. So, uh, Dejaun's stribling, man. He, he looks awesome.
Starting point is 00:20:10 He surely does. We've talked about him a lot since his, since preseason week one. So I went on ESPN radio a couple of days ago with with Lance Zeerline. And he asked me about Dejohn. And he was like, well, where do you stand? And I'm like, well, where do you stand? Because, you know, my analytics model, like, really didn't like him. He was like, he was like, I'm actually, I did my projections and I'm very pessimistic.
Starting point is 00:20:35 And like, I got a lot of heat for it. He was like, I'm just looking at Christian McKin. Caffrey, okay, that's a target hog. Mike Evans, okay, when healthy, that's a target hog. Mike Evans, or George Kittle, when healthy, that's a target hog. Debo Samuel, you know, knows the system. So he was like, I projected out like 35 catches and like 400 yards and four touch sets, something like that. He was like, I got a lot of. And so like, what do you think? And I'm like, well, like, I think that's right. I think, I think that's the most likely outcome, assuming everyone's fully healthy.
Starting point is 00:21:11 But fantasy football doesn't work like that. In the game of fantasy football, the most likely outcome isn't always the most important one. And what I always say is a player's bull case outcome matters exponentially more than the median, which matters exponentially more than the bear case, which almost doesn't matter at all. And so to me, Deshaun Shribling is like literally the best handcuff at cost.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Like I don't really like handcuff running backs. Like I'm not, Blake Corum is probably the best one on paper. I'm not really drafting him. Tyler Algier in the last round is a really good one in the last round. But Dejaun Sribling at Cost is one of my favorite handcuffs because you just look at the setup. It's the 49ers. They're a juggernaut offense every year despite a million injuries.
Starting point is 00:21:59 And then it's, yeah, who is he competing for targets with? It's like target hogs, but it's also like Mike Evans, old and injury prone. Christian McCaffrey, old and injury prone. George Kittle old and injury prone. Devo Samuel, fat, old and injury prone. So it's like, yeah, there's a real pathway here towards league winning upside. And so I,
Starting point is 00:22:20 we could talk about like why my analytics model might have missed on him. We could talk about what you've seen on tape this preseason and whatnot. But to me, it's a little dependent on where you're drafting. like in an ffPC deep rosters where the waiver wires really barren and you're chasing a million dollar grand prize like this is like almost like this is an amazing pick this is a tremendous value this is a player i almost don't want to leave my draft with that but in a 10-team esPN it's like i don't know that you really need to draft him just because the odds he's available on waivers in week three week four or so high.
Starting point is 00:23:04 It's almost a little bit like Luther burden last year. So there is that nuance, but like if you look at my rankings, I'm very high on him and I kind of keep inching him up. You should. Yeah, he looks great. The thing with Lance's take is like he had to say, when healthy, this player is a target hog, when healthy this. Bro, none of them are healthy.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Not one of them. Not, and currently, not one of the players he had to breathe about there was not, is not healthy currently. So, you know, George Kittle likely not to play week one. That's more of a travel situation, but he might be the healthiest of the bunch. And he's a tight end who's never been a super high volume guy, has he? He's just been extremely efficient throughout his career. So like, not super worried about that. I made the case on when Debrough and I did the preseason week two reaction video.
Starting point is 00:23:58 I made the case that there's a real pathway for, for, for stribling to be the wide receiver one this year in San Francisco. Yeah, but is he good? How, because like, yeah, he's good. Everyone was like, oh, this is a tremendous reach. But no, not every, not everyone, not everyone said that. Kyle Shanahan can't draft on day two. What did you like about?
Starting point is 00:24:20 What did you see? Yeah, I mean, the biggest thing, the biggest box he checked for me was body control, body control in droves, but size athleticism, body control is a really good starting point. There were question marks coming from the Ole Miss offense on the route running and the, I guess, moveability to the NFL where it's like he played primarily X and it was a vertical plane, you know, this linear route tree only. But so far through two preseason games, we've seen him play all three positions, run the entire route tree. He looks great after the catch. They're scheming up touches to him. And he's got ridiculous catches downfield multiple times.
Starting point is 00:24:56 he's beating starting level cornerbacks I think he looks the part like absolutely so I think there's also a kingmaker component to Kyle Shanahan that was always one of the biggest cheat codes and fantasy like dating back to the Julio Jones Andre Johnson
Starting point is 00:25:15 days it was always you want the Kyle Shanean and wide receiver one and hey we saw Brandon I you'd be incredibly productive in the second half of his rookie season And we've seen Debo Samuel have post-league winning seasons despite a 33rd percentile ass. So it's, yeah, it's, I, I, I, I am like kind of did not expect to be like a president of the Dijon shriveling fan club. But yeah, I really like him. Oh, and to, you know, excuse the poor analytics profile.
Starting point is 00:25:50 There's a quote that's been going around a few times. I think Albert Breer had it first, but basically, Lane Kippen was like, yeah, like it was an egregious sin that we didn't have shriveling more involved in the offense than he should have been. It kind of took us a while to figure out what we had, but our, you know, Weiss or OC kind of knew the entire time and that was on me. One thing I found interesting in the like raw counting stats profile for him is he had over 600 yards receiving on three different college teams. It's like it's not like he. Hey, maybe that means he's really smart. He's going to pick up this offense quicker than a rookie. Well, you've already seen that.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Like I said a few times, they actually put the full freaking load of the offense on him already. So and guys, like for those that think it was a tremendous reach, you know, I had a draft show during draft season. We talked stribling on that show a lot. And stribling was a guy that we, you know, Theo and I, my coach at the time, we projected was going to go higher than people thought. Like that was something we talked about very early on.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Like this guy is definitely going to go higher than people realize he went, really early in the second round, first pick of the second round, you know, which is a little higher than I scored him. But still, like, when you stack a draft board, I'm not stacking it, you know, specific to a specific team, right? It's, it's team agnostic. And so at some point in the draft, it does become a pick your, your flavor kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:27:11 So with that context added, I don't really think it was that crazy for reach. All right. Well, yeah, this is, this gets the fantasy football daily with Brett and Scott stamp of approval. Boom. Let's move on. Let's, let's hit the guy we've talked about, another guy we've talked about a ton. This entire offseason is Parker Washington. Speak of stamps of approval. I don't know that there's a bigger stamp of approval I could give for Parker Washington. This is really my guy. You see it on the screen here. The last four games, including playoffs. He was just like an Uber alpha. He had 45% of the team's yards. He had a 3.78 yards per route run.
Starting point is 00:27:50 But it's really not just that. It's, you know, it's, there's a larger sample there of just whenever he was given the full-time slot role, he was excellent. Whenever he was on the field with Jacobi Myers and Brian Thomas Jr., he was the alpha with a 33% target share or better in those games, these games here on screen, or just whenever on the field on those snaps with those guys, he was the alpha. And this also talks, you know, speaks to the Liam Cohen slot. roll where we saw Chris Godwin the alpha over Mike Evans and behind only Jamar Chase and fantasy points per game. We saw that with Cooper Cup and the Rams. We saw that with Wondell Robinson at Kentucky, Liam Cohen, slot roll as money. And it's just a guy. I mean, I said on that draft show, I said on that draft show, I said Parker Washington is the best value in all of fantasy. And I said it again in my draft
Starting point is 00:28:49 guide when it came out earlier this month is he's best value in all of drafts. And so it's like, yeah, I think it makes sense that his value continues to rise. The Exodia's always rise every year. And, you know, that's mostly just, I think, like, ADP's much softer in early August and then it gets tougher. But here's the thing is, like, I checked ADP this morning and like, he's still a ridiculous value. It's, you know, with the Exodias, these are players where you could reach around or more and still come away a massive winner. It still feels like stealing. And that's exactly the case with Parker Washington to me.
Starting point is 00:29:27 I haven't left a single redraft draft without him yet, so. Well, then we're best friends. See, Brett, now we can be best friends because if you don't draft Parker Washington, we can't be friends. So that's, you, you, you, listeners at home, you tell me what's important. Do you want to be my friend? Do you want to win your league or do you want to lose your league and not be my friend? What's crazy too is for those that are like one league like home home league kind of players his ADP is still crazy low like yeah it is insane where you can get him.
Starting point is 00:30:02 It's really the sharp leagues or I think he's been a big riser because I've still I just did a home league the other day and it's like gosh I think I got him like round 11 or something round 12 bro even on ff PC still way too low it's crazy like he's gained around in the past three weeks and he's still a bus draft pick. Yeah. Why don't we do, uh, J.K. Dobbins. Yeah. Yeah. So he's a. So if you saw, if you remember my thread from earlier in this episode is he's kind of a riser every year. And I think it's just like, because I think it's just because I pull it up. I do this in like, you know, September 1st. And so it's just like, oh, JK Dobbins hasn't been hurt yet. Let's let's. Exactly. Rise him up. And, uh, so. So I don't know if you want to talk about J.K. Dobbins or I could give you my fantasy take, but it's really just like he kind of feels like a best ball guy to me. I don't think he's a great redraft pick unless you went zero or B and you're just desperate for guaranteed points. I just don't see a ton of upside because he doesn't catch passes because by every indication Sean Payton wants a three-way committee backfield.
Starting point is 00:31:13 And so they're kind of going to be cannibalizing each other's upside. but I do have tremendous belief in J.K. Dobbins, the player, for as long as he stays healthy. He is the most injury-prone player in football, but he ranks top 10 in career yards for carry all time. Is he mean number one, actually? No, he's not number one. Okay. But he's like seventh, I want to say. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:41 And then you just like look at what he, look at what Harvey did last year without him. Harvey had what, like two games over 60 rushing yards, where J.K. Dobbins did that in every single game, but one with a 5.0 yards per carry. And Sean Payton said, like, he, I forget the exact quote, but like he did not want to lose J.K. Dobbins in free agents. He was like, this is like an acquire at any cost guy for me. Something like that.
Starting point is 00:32:09 It was like priority, priority number one in free agency, go after J.K. Dobbins, make sure he stayed. Yeah, so I'm actually selling this as a riser. I'm not buying in. Yeah, I mean, so so that's that's right. That's that's definitely right. Just because again, like in fantasy, the whole game is is upside. Upside wins championships.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Upside is everything. And I don't see every down upside. I don't see him catching passes. I see they want a committee perhaps because they worry about him staying healthy and they want him healthy. for the playoffs. And so, yeah, this isn't a player on drafting. And if you follow my rankings,
Starting point is 00:32:52 you're probably not going to draft him. But you know, best ball league or zero RB start. You really just need points. He's okay. Because it is a top three offensive line. It isn't a top three defense with great game script, a great play caller.
Starting point is 00:33:08 By the way, Jacob Edelman's is number two all time among running backs and yards per carry. In the modern era, since since basically 19 to 1970s. Jamal Charles. Oh, okay. Well, that's not all time.
Starting point is 00:33:19 So we get, I'm not putting Marion Motley ahead of him. Why not? Mary Motley is awesome. He's a fullback from the 1950s, Scott. He had like a career high. A hundred and thirty, 30 touches.
Starting point is 00:33:29 You come in here trying to stat mug the goat. No, I don't think so. We, we respect Mary and Motley here in this house. We've already, we've already disclosed on the show. You're not allowed to say the word mugged. You're too old for that. So stop doing that. But yeah, I mean,
Starting point is 00:33:44 In any football that matters. You mugged me and now you sons me. Wow. And any amount of football that matters, Jacob, I'm just number two all time in yards per carry. So among running, among running backs, not quarterbacks. But here's the thing is it's like every year.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Every year he's 5.0 yards per carrier higher. And it's just like, it's really just like Kenny's. And it's crazy because of all the injuries. Like he's definitely lost a step and then lost another step. But yeah, shout out to Zach Swales, one of our charters who, uh, you know, talked about this every week in his article,
Starting point is 00:34:17 but it's just like he is just so good at hitting the open hole. And Harvey was so bad at that last year. And so better fit for the offense, better pure runner. He really just needs to say healthy. But again, not enough upside for me to really care. Well, and I think we're going to get Sean Payton with this backfield anyways. Jonah Coleman, RJ Harvey, JK, all having a role. That's going to be scary.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Yeah. So, well, who do you think has the biggest upside of that backfield? It's got to be Coleman, right, at ADP? Is Coleman free? Yeah. I kind of just, I guess so, but I kind of just don't trust that they want a Belkow. I think they, they just want, you know, a two-way committee or a three-way committee if Dobbin stays healthy. And so I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:07 I just don't see the upside. And I think, I think Coleman's probably going to be available off waivers in October. So all right. We got a couple more risers to get to. Let's go. Casey Concepcion, my guy. I don't know if you want me to go first, but. Your guy, this was your, this was your wide receiver too in this year's class.
Starting point is 00:35:26 So that's kind of spicy. And now ADP is catching up, but he's still stupid cheap. Stupid cheap. I think the big concern obviously is the quarterback situation. And that, like, I'm not even sure as much as I love Casey for redraft purposes, do I, want a piece of this i don't know you do let me tell you you do okay all right go ahead so i i when when he was drafted to the browns there was like this negative reaction and my reaction at the time is like this is a sneaky amazing landing spot especially long term for dynasty but even in the
Starting point is 00:36:06 short term because todd manken was so good at scheming zay flowers up last year it was you know heavy screen volume manufactured touches behind the line of scrimmage targets but it was also this scheme where he saw the highest percentage of routes from heavy personnel which is an efficiency cheat code because it's easier to get targets against tight ends competing for targets with tight ends than it is wide receivers and and so all of that together i'm like oh he's going to be in the zay flowers role and then Andrew berry and Todd Monkin both him to zay flowers later that night they were like no no no zay flowers isn't a good count it's it's much bigger zay flowers this guy's way bigger than zay he's more physical and so yeah zay flowers role
Starting point is 00:36:55 and that mitigates most if not all of the quarterback concerns i just i just source out there who visited cleveland practice told me dude it was just all screens it was just nothing but the entire offensive screens and yeah Casey was a focal point and and and why is he rising up it's because his ADP was stupid cheap to begin with but it's also because he is a major camp standout um there was some like lip service quotes from the coaches like oh no Jerry Judy is are our wide receiver one and now like every beatwriter's like no that's BS like listen Judy these these rookies look so much better than Jerry Judy and Casey in particular is getting peppered and he's he looks amazing and hey that was brett whitefield's wide receiver two in the class you know you're
Starting point is 00:37:46 you're the best in the game at wide receivers that's that might be your best position um and so i like this i like i said i've i've waffled back and forth between k c and stribling i think it's two different things i think stribling offers legitimately more upside but there's a much higher chance he's available off waivers in week four i think kc could just rip out of the gates with like six to eight targets week one and then ideally in the second half that moves to like seven point five to ten targets per game ideally in a perfect world um but yeah i i like casey what kind of stat line do you think Antonio brown could put up with the Sean Watson and shoulder sanders please do not say this is an illegal comp if you're counting him to
Starting point is 00:38:32 antonio brown one of one uh but yeah he would put up obscene numbers like You know, quarterback play really matters, but like when you're the elite of the elites, we've seen Antonio Brown go nuclear with Ben Rathesberger backups or just like a decrepit tennis elbow overweight Ben Rathesberger. And we've seen, dude, we've seen D'Andre Hopkins go nuclear with Larry Osweiler. Larry Fitz for years with bad quarterbacks. And so, and so, yeah, a lot comes down to how, are you saying this guy is, Antonio Brown levels of good.
Starting point is 00:39:08 I mean, play style wise, that that was roughly my comp for him. Yeah. And guess what? Zayflowers too. Antonio Brown is on my Mount Rushmore. So, whoa. Mount Rushmore? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:20 You just like the crazy vibes. That's. Dude, you know, it's, that's it. I have an analytics model and my analytics model tells me the crazier you are, the more fantasy points you're going to score if you're a wide. This is scientific. It's scientific. What, what Mount Rushmore were.
Starting point is 00:39:37 we're talking about like fantasy football wide receiver mount rushmore or like just wide receivers in general it's jerry rice it's tyreek hill it's antonio brown and it's dejon shribling in five i love how you mispronounce his name to get him on your mount rushmore too de sean not day sean dazon no i'm parker washing it's all right um you want to move to the next name yeah last last riser we have for you that we're going to get into some more fallers Jonathan Brooks. Big time riser. I'm buying this one too.
Starting point is 00:40:10 I almost just called you Josh. I don't know why. My name is Scott. And put some respect on it, please. It's because right before we did the show, I was talking to somebody named Josh. Sorry. All right.
Starting point is 00:40:23 So Jonathan Brooks, why are you high on Jonathan Brooks? He has one season with over 30 carries since he left high school five years ago. Yeah. The reason I'm high in Jonathan Brooks is I'm, I'm a big believer that when talent meets opportunity, we get boom. And I don't think Chuba Hubbard's a very good running back. I don't think. So on that point, we have it on the screen here.
Starting point is 00:40:46 This is one of my favorite stats. Chuba Hubbard's yards per target average in two years ago was the worst ever. It was the worst of any player at any position since targets became a stat in 1992. And then last year, he had zero explosive runs. He was the only running back with, you know, close to his men. many with a hundred carries to have zero explosive runs. Absolutely awful. And so, yeah, I think that's like a fairly easy bar for Brooks to clear to become a bell cow.
Starting point is 00:41:23 This guy has not been good. And last year, he missed two games. And his backup running back, averageed 198 rushing yards per game in those games. And yeah, you're seeing this from the beat writers out there in Carolina, where it's like they're just flat out saying this is going to be Jonathan Brooks backfield. They're hoping Jonathan Brooks takes over as the lead back. I don't think we're hoping anymore. I think it's happened.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Well, buried lead once again is Chuba Hubbard currently dealing with an injury and that just gives Brooks all the opportunity in the world. Also, I remember when Brooks was drafted, Dave Canales said, Dave Canales said, yeah, Well, what really separated him from everyone else is he's a do-it-all-back. He catches the ball. He's a really good runner. And that's really important to my scheme where I'm not tipping my play calling hand, where I can motion him out. I can reveal tendencies of the defense.
Starting point is 00:42:19 I can get mismatches. And you saw that. You saw that with rookie year Rashad White playing under Dave Canales. You saw that with Shiva Hubbard, you know, when he had his breakout season two years ago. And I think, I think Brooks is a better fit for the system. I think he's an efficiency upgrade. And yeah, I see, you know, it's no sure thing. It could be a committee.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Historically not for Dave Canales, but I see a ton of upside. Agreed with you in full. I think, you know, they were comfortable letting Rico Dowdle walk, who was very clearly the better running back last year over Chuba Hubbard because they had Jonathan Brooks and the hopper ready to go. And so it's not like, you know, Rico Dowell signed some massive contract. I think get paid what? like 12 million bucks over two years in Pittsburgh or something like that.
Starting point is 00:43:06 So they could have easily retained him instead. They opted to go with Brooks. I think that was intentional. You mentioned the explosive run thing. I think people are sleeping on how big of a deal that is. The NFL, the entire NFL right now is chasing explosive runs. We've done the math on what it means for implied point totals when you get an explosive run on a drive. We know that in the too high era we live in.
Starting point is 00:43:28 And by too high era, I just simply mean that the rate of too high has gone up dramatically over the last five to six years. Explosive runs are one of the offsets for that, right? So you're going to play shell coverage. Cool. We're going to run the ball down your throat and rack up those explosives. You simply cannot have a running back on the field who's not capable of generating you explosive runs.
Starting point is 00:43:49 And so I think by proxy, Jonathan Brooks just gets more opportunity. Just literally on that stat alone, that cherry pick stat, I believe, will be the driver in Brooks taking over this job. And then you mentioned the pass down work, the past, catching upside that really was the hallmark of brooks's profile coming out of college just like a true three down back who can be dynamic as a pass catcher that's right all right let's hit some followers and then we'll get out of here we already did gentie let's hit travi on henderson i'm i'm so glad you put him on the list because i am so excited to shit all over i so i've done it i have 100%
Starting point is 00:44:28 exposure to travi on henderson and ffpc and i am so mad about it it's because i I do all these drafts with, with Theo Greminger, who's an amazing analyst. I'm going to win all these because like he's the waiver wire goat. But he's, I'm like every, we have our call before the draft and I'm like, I am going to, I'm going to lose my mind if you make me draft, Trayvian Henderson. I veto it. There's no way. And every single draft somehow, it's like he falls two rounds and like we went zero RB
Starting point is 00:45:00 and we have to take him. I've been calling him. I don't know how much of this is just because of that, but I've been calling him the anti-exodia for how much my disdain for Trayvion Henderson. It feels like he's just the world's most expensive handcuff. Like seriously. And it's a handcuff where you're drafting him above the starter,
Starting point is 00:45:24 which is just bad form. He's Blake Corum. If Blake quorum were more expensive, less efficient, and hated by his head coach. He's Dijon Shribling if Shribling went eight rounds earlier and 30 picks before Mike Evans. Look at it on the screen here.
Starting point is 00:45:44 It's, yeah, what happened in the games that mattered most in the playoffs? Trayvon Henderson had a 36% snap share. He averaged, oh no, this is all games. This is all games that Remandre played. By the way, it looks even worse in the playoffs. All games Remandre played Yeah, it's a 62% versus 36% committee.
Starting point is 00:46:07 Trayvian averaged only 8.3 fantasy points per game. His only good games were when Ramandre was hurt and they were up against bottom five run defenses. And you see it here in the EPA on off splits. The offense was so much better with Ramandre on the field than with Trayvian. That really matters. And like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:26 And so what has happened all offseason is, single beat writer and is saying, hey, I'm at, I'm at camp, like, Romandri is clearly the lead back. Oh, and Trayvion has not looked good, has not looked impressive. You know, I called, I called Aschen Genti a wussy earlier. That was in your write-up on Trayvion. He plays football like an absolute wussy. He is like such a dynasty darling and like, you're going to have people, you know, crying in our YouTube comments over this, but like certainly in redraft, this feels like one of the worst picks on the board.
Starting point is 00:47:07 And I've been getting a lot of heat for it. It's like, well, Scott, aren't you the upside wins championships guy? It's like, yeah, upside wins championships, but downside isn't totally irrelevant, you know? And it's also like, I think Romandre has more upside. Why do I think that? Because, hey, he's starting week one and the coach really likes him. And he was actually good last year and a better fit for the scheme. Travion in college and last year, and last year, much better an outside zone. That's like his specialty. But guess what?
Starting point is 00:47:35 Josh McDaniels dating back to like the West Welker days, there's always bottom three and outside zone run rate. That's right. All right. Go ahead. Bring your film X's and O's expertise to the conversation. You did a really good job summon it up for fantasy for sure. I think one thing that gets lost in all of this is Remandry Stevenson's a freaking awesome
Starting point is 00:47:56 football player. Yeah. He's got he had some fumbling issues at times throughout his career. but like he is probably one of the most dynamic 240 pound running backs you're going to find as far as like what he brings in the past game as a receiver, a pass protector and as a runner. I mean, he is just, he truly is a really good football player. And so I think that gets lost. I wanted to bring up one element of this that's not film related. But like, I think the pushback we're going to get Scott is because when you look at a guy who was a second round pick, okay, he got drafted into his situation.
Starting point is 00:48:28 we knew he'd compete with the starter with. Like, we knew it would be a timeshare early on, is my point. And as a rookie, he has over 1,100 total yards and 10 touchdowns. I think the logical conclusion is that's an ascending player. And we can expect more from him moving forward because he was, from a peer counting stat situation, he was good as a rookie, despite the fact that he wasn't the starter. Right.
Starting point is 00:48:53 And then there's a ton of nuance of those numbers. You can get into, you know, some game. script like he had two two games that he completely blew up in and then the rest was kind of man right but point being is like i think generally people expect young players to continue getting better so they're they're gonna ask you well if he if he could do this as a rookie 1100 total yards and 10 touchdowns why why shouldn't we expect more from him or at least even that much right because we're you go to our projections we're not projecting trivion henderson for nearly that kind of production this year so there's a gap in what he's already accomplished as a young player versus what we're saying he's going to do this year.
Starting point is 00:49:33 How do you kind of explain away that gap? So like, again, the bulk of his production really came in those games without Ramandre Stevenson. And those were games against like the worst run defenses in football. He had over 150 yards from scrimmage, two touchdowns on just on just 16 touches. against the bills, but that's always been one of the worst run, like the invite opposing offenses to run against them intentionally. And so, yeah, that was a big part of it, but like you saw it on the screen, like when they were both healthy,
Starting point is 00:50:12 Ramondri was the more efficient back by a lot. And it's also like looking at his prospect profile, you called him a wussy, you said he was overrated. I had major. questions regarding whether or not he could be a bell cow even before your your wussy concerns which add to that is just you know he couldn't stay healthy early on in college and then he was vastly more efficient than quidshot judkins but you know had fewer touches fewer carries than quinshawn including in you know the game that mattered most the the
Starting point is 00:50:47 championship so um yeah it's it's i forget what your original question was what was your answer to it Yeah, I mean, my answer is just that Stevenson's a really good football player. Yeah. But I do think like there's during for a little bit of a root awakening this year with the schedule. Like there's a lot of factors here of why I'm higher on Ramandre than Trevion. Yeah, but it's also it's also AJ Brown opening things up for the running backs, right? To potentially mitigate the the schedule, which by the way goes from like second softest to like fifth toughest or second toughest even. Here's a take that maybe even gets me in trouble at something.
Starting point is 00:51:26 point, even with A.J. Brown and Romeo Dubbs, I think we have to expect some regression to the mean in terms of that past game efficiency. Drake May was unbelievably efficient last year. And like, especially on all the scramble drilly type stuff where he's finding Kishon Booty
Starting point is 00:51:42 60 yards downfield for a wide-up. Like, that's, like, you can't expect those plays to happen every single game. And they legitimately did for New England last year. So, like, I think past volume probably actually has to go up because of game script this year, where last it didn't need to be super high.
Starting point is 00:51:59 And the efficiency will come way down. So I don't know. I think as a whole, the offense gets less efficient. And I think that actually helps Remandre's case for, if you're doing purely Remandre versus Travion, remandre's, I think his snaps year could actually go up this year. And another interesting tidbit, Scott, is like unanimously the beatwriters think Ramandre is just running away with the job.
Starting point is 00:52:22 It's pretty rare to get unanimous stuff from beat writers like that. Like, and they're unanimously. on board with Ramandre. Yeah, and they're saying it's like almost not even close. And so like, yeah, what are we doing drafting him above Ramandre? Like remandre is a tremendous value, especially if you're taking, if you took a zero RB approach. And Travion is like a very easy fade for me. And yet somehow Theo Griminger, I have 100% exposure on FFPC. Well, speaking to which I capitulate a little bit to your and Theo's take on Trevion last year in the draft process, I actually bumped them up a spot or two manually.
Starting point is 00:52:56 just because Theo was so convicted in his travion take that I felt like I had to. But all right, let's move on. Jeremiah Love, another star running back dealing with some injury. He's a faller. I don't exactly know how many ADP spots he's fallen, but I imagine it's semi-significant. Where are you at on Jeremiah Love, Scott? Brother, I've got a spicy, spicy take for you.
Starting point is 00:53:21 You want to hear it? Yeah, I do. I tweeted this out the other day. If I'm being completely honest with myself, I think it's, I think it's probably 50-50 that Judarian Price, Jeremiah loves longtime backup outscores Jeremiah love this year. Current ADP, if you look at current ADP, it implies like there's only a 5% chance that happens. I think it's legitimately close to 50-50.
Starting point is 00:53:50 And so what does that mean? 50-50 basically means like they should have the exact same pretty. And they should be going like the exact right next to each other in the draft and the fact that they're not means I have to be very low on Jeremiah a much lower than consensus on Jeremiah love and much higher on Janarian price. And that's absolutely the case. That's absolutely the case. And so it's I'll be honest. It's the ankle thing for Jeremiah Love, which I'm hearing by the way is is worse than the teams letting on.
Starting point is 00:54:23 it might even be worse than Ash and Gene T's, genties. I'm hearing there's a really good chance he's going to miss week one. And then it's also just the general, like the fantasy community is kind of always overly optimistic on rookies. I was last year, you know, I was very in on Bejel Tootin and Luther Burden and Colston Loveland,
Starting point is 00:54:41 and it took until December for those guys to break out. And then it's also, you have this really tough backfield competition where you have James Connor who like, by every measure is one of the top three most efficient running backs in football over the last three years when healthy you have tyler alger who you know i think jeremiah love is an exceptional talent i think bison is probably maybe the best running back in football tyler al jir was good enough to force a committee with bjohn and so like that's that doesn't really bode well for and then it's
Starting point is 00:55:14 not a good offense it's an offense that could you know kind of secretly hopes they're drafting arch Manning next year. It's an offense that could be starting Carson Beck in the second half. It's an offense that's not going to have good game script. It's an offense that isn't going to be in the red zone all that often. And then Jerry and Price meanwhile, while he's competing for touches against George Holani, did you make that name up? Who is George Holani? Special teams demon, man. Yeah, special teams demon George Holani. And you have the proof of concept. You saw it last year, Kenneth Walker in the second half of the season, he was averaging 22 fantasy points per game. He was going nuclear.
Starting point is 00:55:54 This was a backfield that ranked what, top three in total carries last year. Amazing game script. He just won the Super Bowl. And yeah, so it seems weird when, you know, Jeremiah loved just like totally out alphaed Jerry and Price. Price could barely see the field. And, you know, just given landing spot. It seems, I was doing the FFPC draft with Jacob Sanderson and he, he was like, he was keeping up for Jeremiah Love and he was like, when was the last time you could take a round one running back this late and then like four rounds later, you know, Jerry and Price was on the board and I was like, hey, wait a second. What was the last time you got a round one running back, this rookie rookie round one running back this late in the draft?
Starting point is 00:56:44 So, so yeah, what do you think about that take? Do you think that's crazy? Do you think that's ridiculous? No. And I'm going to be annoying and one up you. I think in terms of price versus love, I would tilt it 51% price, 49%. Wow. You always got to want up me, Brett.
Starting point is 00:57:01 Yeah. Yeah, that's, I know that that's annoying. But yeah, we were talking about it kind of in Discord other day. And I think Chris might murder us in our sleep for this. Oh, yeah. He's not quite projecting it that way at all. But here's the funny thing is he was Jeremiah Love's biggest hater, right? the night of the draft, he released his projections and he got so much shit for it because people
Starting point is 00:57:21 were like, like, no, he's, he's, he's going to, he should be drafted in round one. He's going to, and like, Chris is like, eh, the math, math isn't really mathing here. And so he's still a lot lower. He just isn't quite with us on 50, 50. Yeah, Jeremiah love, I mean, this is not really a topic for fantasy, but he's, he's the worst draft pick in NFL history. You know that, right? That is a take. That is. a scalding hot take clip that tray Scott they made him the highest paid running back in NFL history in terms of guaranteed money with the rock look at that roster and tell me they they had the right to do that you had Tyler Alger and james Connor already in tow and you decided to do that
Starting point is 00:58:02 with that roster that you have unbelievably I mean it's so malpractice it's it's ridiculous man roster construction malpractice you know it is Charlie munger show me the incentive I'll show you the outcome it's it's if i draft a running back and he's good i'm not going to get fired you know and it's just like because he sells jerseys yeah it's the safe pick it's that but it's like the literal stupidest thing and we just saw we just saw the raiders do this and it it backfires spectacularly where they had the they drafted a running back top 10 and then they had the worst running game in 17 years It was something like that by EPA per run. And so, yeah, it just like that was a fireable offense.
Starting point is 00:58:47 Like if I was, if you're the grandson of the owner of the Cardinals and you're watching this, just just fire your GM today because that is that is so stupid. It is not how you, you win Super Bowls. And it's, yeah, malpractice, like you said. One of the worst draft picks, I mean, especially now in today's day and age where we should know, we know positional value. Like it's it's clear as day from just looking at contract. He's the highest paid running back in the league right now.
Starting point is 00:59:14 By guaranteed money, yes. By like surplus value, is that the ideal roster construction takes surplus value into account. No team is spending more money on running backs than the Cardinals, which is like the luxury position. Yeah. And you have the worst team in football and it's so stupid. Yep. Should have drafted offensive or defensive line. And that's where you actually get surplus value.
Starting point is 00:59:40 That's the thing. if they draft an edge defender right there, Scott, or an offensive tackle, those guys would have been roughly the, like, the 35th to 40th highest paid player at their position where Jeremiah Love's number one ever, historically ever, number one. So they have a zero percent chance of actually recouping any value.
Starting point is 00:59:59 Even if Jeremiah Love is the best running back in the league, they get zero value out of it because they drafted him to pay him at his ceiling. They're already paying him like that. So it's terrible. I know that was a random sidebar. Fun fact on George Halani, by the way, if you want it. George Halani got his job stolen from him by Ashton Genty at Boise State. Oh, interesting.
Starting point is 01:00:21 Oh, actually. As a senior, he had like 1,100 yards, came back for his redshirt senior season. So his fifth college season. And that's when Genti broke out with 220 carries for 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns. With five receivings, almost 20 touchdowns total. So Halani, we, we, Was the phrase you always use? I tell you can't.
Starting point is 01:00:41 He got, is it maugged? He got mauged by Genty? There you go. Yeah, you know, my model actually liked Holani a little bit. Yeah, I think I use that as a red flag sat on Ash and Genti. Was just how efficient Holani was at forcing this tackles in the same backfield. All right. We got a couple more to do.
Starting point is 01:01:02 We got to get moving here. Carnell Tate, Tennessee Titans wide receiver. I made the downside case for him on our week one preseason reaction. action show after I ranted about Cam Ward and gave you the 14 play breakdown. Is it as simple as that for you? It's just like Cam Ward might really, really stink and we're in trouble here. Or is he just being simply drafted too high? Or I guess he's falling. So is he is he in a more acceptable range now or what's driving the fall? Is it Cam Ward? That's my guess. I think you deserve some of the credit
Starting point is 01:01:33 because you yeah, it's it's been really rough and ugly from what we've seen. And this, I always find a way to get Jackson Dart into one of our episodes. But yeah, this is one of my takes is like, guys, Brian Daible's not a good play caller. Brian Davel is probably a bet. Who are the only, who are the only quarterbacks ever to look good with, with him as their play caller?
Starting point is 01:01:56 The two best quarterbacks in football, Josh Allen and Jackson Dart. Daniel Jones looked, like, Daniel Jones looked awful in the same offense with the same skill, skill players and then he goes to Shane Steichen and he's incredible. So I worry about Cam Ward, who also was awful last year. He had the fewest fantasy points of any quarterback to ever play all 17 games ever.
Starting point is 01:02:23 And he looked ass this preseason. And so I just don't see a ton of upside. Yeah, the stat I had on the Titans last year, Brett, it was like, I think week 14, their highest scoring player by fantasy points per game was their kicker. And like the last time that had happened was like, 1953 and so it's just it's just yeah this could be like there are power law players that I always talk about they're also power law teams and then the reverse of that teams where there's just like
Starting point is 01:02:50 there's no player that's fantasy relevant and so like even if that's not the case too it's just not a ton of upside from this team that's probably going to be bad so not a target for me but uh you know also not really a bad pick like if like if a subscriber showed me a team and carnal tate was on it He was like, yeah, I thought the value was good. Yeah, I find no fault in it. Maybe a little closer to agnostic than down on him, but not a target. Would you feel any more comfortable if they cut or traded Ridley coming out of camp here? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:03:23 I feel like it's already like in my head and priced in that Calvin really is not really going to be a factor this year. Fair enough. Or just a deep threat if he's that. David Montgomery is somehow a ADP fault. I explain this to me. Oh, God, I love this. This is amazing. Right.
Starting point is 01:03:41 This is making our drafts easier. Every year my Exodias either gain two or three rounds in value or they get hurt. And so this is for the first time ever, the first time in history, he stayed healthy. And instead of gaining value, he lost value, right? David Montgomery, yeah, I mean, I don't understand this. You and I did a show with Sigmund Bloom. like in unison on Montgomery like legit belcow workload coming. Woody Marks kind of stinks. I guess the downside case, Scott, maybe is the offensive line, right? They've already had a
Starting point is 01:04:20 couple injuries. Wyatt Taylor looks absolutely cooked. Braden Smith is out. But like how much does that matter considering the role he's going to get? Considering the pass volume he might get. So I'll tell you, I'll tell you why he's falling. Okay. Woody marks after looking like complete and utter dog shit all of last year has looked pretty good in preseason you had a beat he has uh supposedly okay and and you you have a beat rider who i lived in houston for seven years barely know the name uh saying he predicts a 50 50 committee what do you mark david montgomery And so I, the subscribers were in a tizzy. I'm at the airport.
Starting point is 01:05:09 They're, hey, hey, Scott, what do you make of this? What are your sources saying? Again, I work my sources who has team connections. He's not budging an inch. He was like, yeah, Woody Marks actually has looked quite a bit better than he did this time last year. Maybe he was playing through some injuries, but no, no, no. This is the David Montgomery show. he's going to be an Uber bell cow.
Starting point is 01:05:34 Dan Campbell, Dan Campbell said when they traded him away, we did this to let him be a bell cow. D'emiko Ryan's has said, you know, he's going to be our belkow. He's going to be our workhorse. He's going to be our committee back.
Starting point is 01:05:49 It's not going to be a committee backfield. This is why we went out and got him. That's who he is. And my guy said, yeah, don't, like, exactly what we said at the top of the show is like, it's just some, some beat writer's opinion. He doesn't have team connections.
Starting point is 01:06:05 He's just like, he just sees Woody Marks. Oh, he had a touchdown in practice today. Yeah, it's going to be, or he split the reps 50, 50. And so independent of that, independent of this, I had Ted, Ted Wynn reached out to me. He was like, hey, I was watching your debate with Ryan Heath on the Fantasy Points YouTube channel. By the way, Ted Wynn is the best beat writer in the game bar none.
Starting point is 01:06:28 Like literally brilliant. X almost he's a Brett tier X as a nose guy. This is like a special, special beat writer. So he was watching the Ryan Heath versus Scott Barrett debate. He was like, hey, I agreed with you and I disagreed with Ryan when you were debating running backs. You love to hear it. Smart guy.
Starting point is 01:06:49 Disagree agrees with me, not Ryan. He said, hey, I agree. He said I could leak this on the record. He said, I agree with you on Montgomery. just saw him in Houston. He's going to get the ball. And this, this, a ton. And this might be the best Texans O line in a long time too.
Starting point is 01:07:08 And then I had another separate Texan source reach out to me. Didn't even inquire. Tell me they're, they've intentionally been taking it easy on him in practice. So it very well could be the case that the beat writer is seeing a 50-50 split. It is not going to be a 50-50 split. So this is exactly what I say when, when, you know, the risers, fallers, track record is really bad. And it's something for us to exploit, like the FFPC pros, the high stakes pros, like a big Agbatoba, they'll tell you the entire edge in late August is fading the overreactions.
Starting point is 01:07:49 And then all there is are overreactions to things that really don't matter. And so some beat writer you've never heard of predicting a 50, 50 split and also predicting CJ Stroud to have 6,000 passing yards and and Xavier Hutchinson to have a hundred catches. Yeah, that probably doesn't matter. Is this beat writer from fan sided or something? What the heck? Hey, I'm sorry. I don't know. No, no, no. I'm sure this is a great. I don't know. I don't know to throw them under their bus. But I just mean in general, like beat writers, whenever they throw out numbers, it's always wrong. Like I think back to that one guy who, who projected, who was projecting 16 to 18 touches.
Starting point is 01:08:29 for Tyler Al Jir. I read it. I'm like, oh my God, this is, this could be awful. How many touches are you projecting for Bijan? He was like, I don't know, 25 to 28. So this is going to be the most run heavy offensive all time. Very interesting. Another thing to consider too is, you know, the Texans gave up a lot for David Montgomery. They traded a fourth round pick and a starting caliber offensive linemen and juice grugs to acquire him. And then they gave him a bunch of money. So like he was already on a healthy contract from Detroit. They added a bunch of new money to that. They didn't extend it either.
Starting point is 01:09:03 It wasn't any new years. They just added money to the existing contract. So like they're fully pot committed on Montgomery being their belcow. I think that's pretty clear. Yeah. I like I like what Sigmund Bloom said on our show where he's like, people forget like how down everyone was on Joe Mixon, who was the same age as David Montgomery,
Starting point is 01:09:21 but like far less heralded. He thought he was like fully cooked. Whereas David Montgomery is ranked. top five in fantasy points per snap two out of the last three years uh and yeah that makes sense he's he's sharing a backfield with the best running back in football like ashen gentee might have only a 40 percent 30 percent snap share if he shared a backfield with jimier gibbs and then mix in two years ago when healthy was over 20 touches a game over 18 fantasy points per game so right heath doesn't agree with me and ryan heath is is you know a really smart guy uh he doesn't see the upside he's
Starting point is 01:09:56 season is more of a safer pick but i i see an insane margin of safety with a ton of upside as well speaking to ryan heath uh maybe it's a good time to announce that he's going to be doing a weekly show with us in season oh are uh that is right we're doing a weekly show in season a daily show in season you and i do a daily show he's going to join us for one of those episodes we do a daily show since when i used to be oh i see i see what you're doing here this is a professional tease i get it i love it Yeah, for those that haven't caught on by now, this is a daily show for Scott and I now. We've taken over the daily feed here at Fantasy Football Daily on the Fantasy Points YouTube channel. Scott, what does this mean for School of Scott?
Starting point is 01:10:41 School of Scott will probably move to once a week. It's really not the priority. If you like Scott and you like Brett, you like Fantasy Tape. Make sure you subscribe to Fantasy Football Daily with Brett and Scott. go open Spotify, go open Apple, subscribe. Please leave us a five-star review, please. And so, yeah, this is really just, I'm going to be writing less this year. I'm losing the byline on the everything report and the slate breakdown, but I'm still,
Starting point is 01:11:14 yeah, you'll still be involved though, right? Heavily involved. And I think it's just like a better use of my time where where I can, I can take a big picture of you. I'm still going to be dropping blurbs in there and writing in there. and writing in there and really editing it and like getting final stamp of approval is going to be made but it's going to be a collaborative effort between everything report is is is is graham myself and ryan slate breakdown is jake graham and myself um and yeah my new focal point is going to be
Starting point is 01:11:42 podcasts and youtube which is really what the subscribers have wanted for a really long time bread i've come a long way back back in the pff days i i had to beg them to let me do a podcast and my boss said said no uh you know sorry the higher ups just just don't want you to do that they just they said the you can't do a podcast and then i found out it was actually just like my boss sabotaging me and he was just it was just lying to my face he just felt threatened by me and so for the longest time i i was just and i like loved being a writer i i really did um but i really think the best use of my time and i think you're the perfect co-host you know i really do miss theo but um i don't think anyone has uh i think i have the best report with you just because you know
Starting point is 01:12:29 we're we're best friends in real life and we talk all the time yeah we're gonna the the film versus analytics dynamic is great that's what i was going to say we're going to keep it mostly be your traditional fantasy shows in season but it's going to be a film versus analytics twist which would be fun so i think it's i think it's really approachable too like we're like if you are a disgusting degenerate with like 50 leagues this is right of up your alley but if you're like brand new to fantasy it's actually like a great show because you're i don't know how to say this without insulting you just say it because it's true you're you're you're the best film guy in the game to me elite x-as-and-o's-nose-mind but you're kind of a fantasy novice and so like
Starting point is 01:13:11 you're going to be asking the kind of the dumb questions that i think the subscribers like want to ask or wish they could ask themselves so i feel like i and i then i'm the X's a nose novice. Like I don't know how many times you've had to explain to me what cover three is. And so like I'm going to be asking those, those questions. So I think this is a dynamic that I hope it's going to work really well and people are going to enjoy. And, you know, if you have requests or feedback for us, make sure you hit it in the YouTube comments. Yeah, for those that don't know about me. So like when, when fantasy points hired me to basically build this data vertical here at the company, I didn't, I played fantasy.
Starting point is 01:13:53 as like a you know a novice but i didn't have like expertise in fantasy i have an expertise in real football and analytics for my time at pf and data and film and but yeah i've had to learn the fantasy game and um you know that's where we're at so i i will be asking you a lot of dumb questions and uh you'll have great answers for for the novice listeners so all right we got out of here yeah guys that's going to do it for us today again third time we're saying it if you're listening and you're subscribing on the YouTube channel. Go to the YouTube channel, click subscribe, turn notifications on, don't miss a single episode.
Starting point is 01:14:30 That's gonna do it for us today. We are out.
