I'm going to Lopiro, and all eyes are on Mr. Jalen Waddle at Broncos OTAs.
Cody Roarke-a-mile high sports.
Jalen Waddle was as every bit as advertised in the orange and blue.
Sarah Bedinger, we may have a quarterback controversy in Denver, but it has nothing to do with Bo Nix.
I'm Nick Ferguson, and today is a great time to swat away to haters.
All right, let's dive into it all on today.
The Locked-on Broncos Squad Show.
Let's get into it, gentlemen.
Let's go.
From the South stands, it's the Broncos Squad.
Everything Denver Broncos every week.
Covering all the big hits and game-changing plays from the Mile High City.
The way only the Lockdown Podcast Network can.
Gear up and squad up.
The Broncos Squad Show starts now.
Is your Lockdown Bronco Squad Show right here on your Lockdown Broncos YouTube channel and audio feed?
Hope everyone is doing well out there.
in around the Mile High City, getting ready for the weekend here on this Friday, June the 5th.
We've got the whole squad here in Ilo Piro, Cody, Warc, Sarah Bettinger, and Nick Ferguson, talking about all the latest news and notes in the world of Denver Broncos football as the first media availability of OTAs has come and gone.
Cody was there, Nick was there.
We'll dive into that.
I just talked about it for four hours on the radio.
And so we'll unpack it all here on today's Lockdown Broncos squad show.
What up, fellas?
How we live in?
You know, we're living pretty good.
Ferg and I were having some good moments yesterday during practice.
You know, we're sitting there in the sun.
We're cooking with the heat.
They bring the blackjack pizza around.
And we got into a very spirited discussion about proper etiquettes of handling pizza,
especially in a group setting.
And what was it, Ferg?
We're sitting there.
A box opens up.
They bring it around.
You guys want to slice.
And it's like the one thing we talked about beforehand.
All right.
If you're going to grab a slice, grab one slice with one hand.
Don't grab your slice.
and then try to rip it, rip another slice to get your slice free with your other hand.
Because now you've got dirty hands touching everybody's slice of pizza.
Like to me.
But what happens if the pizza slices aren't disconnected?
Like what if you have to give it a little nut?
Grab your slice.
Go somewhere else.
Like grab another slice.
It's more loose.
But man.
Or grab a napkin and then grab your slice.
I just told Cody, hey, just lick the whole thing.
Just lick the whole crust.
It's mine.
You guys are some germ.
What are you to say? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, you know?
Well, here's that deal.
Like we were waiting a while, right?
Because we talked to Sean.
We get escorted back into the building because it's like, all right, hey, like players have position meetings.
And then you'll be able to talk all these guys afterwards.
You know, I think it was initially.
I think it was Cortland and Huff.
So we go inside, barely five, 10 minutes.
Like, all right, hey, we're going to have somebody out there.
We go out there.
We're waiting.
How long are we waiting for probably like 10 minutes, 15?
Yeah.
Oh, I'm going to say 20 minutes.
Yeah, that's generous.
man, that heat was preheated at training camp temperature, right?
Look at the forehead.
Look at this.
And you know how lobster.
John Payton is.
He doesn't care, right?
And the players are going to take their time.
And I was telling members of the media, hey, listen, this is kind of what it is.
Now, someone did say to me, now once, you know, training camp starts where the old store was,
the Bronco store, that's the now in the new media area.
And some of the media was saying that they're content with waiting and air conditioning as long as there's food provided.
So, yeah.
You know, I'll bring my own food, man.
That's the thing.
That's the thing.
But not only was it hot outside, but it's like then the pizza comes.
The sun was keeping the pizza nice and hot as well for everybody's well.
But we're sitting there.
We get a piece of pizza.
We're waiting because we're still like, man, we're a while's way.
And then all of a sudden, Cortland comes out.
People are eating pizza while trying to ask Cortland Sutton the question.
It was chaos.
Remember what he said?
What do you say when he came to the podium?
He said, go ahead.
He's a guy's having a summer pizza party.
Man, I love pizza.
And obviously, Michael in the chat's like, don't disrespect pizza.
I love pizza.
Don't get me wrong.
I love pizza.
But make sure you don't eat it when it's cold.
Summer, I just did that last night.
Summer body.
Nah, bro.
That's right.
Dumber body, baby.
Bodies, bro.
I got this crispy cream dough.
He does it.
I got a hamburger bowl right here with just potatoes and three.
Bro. Donut number three if I eat this better.
So, so, Nilo, you have a Krisme Kreme donut.
Cody, you have a hamburger?
Hamburger Bowl.
So you know some places, like if you're Paula Dane, she combines the two.
That's awful.
That would make me spit on that.
Donut burgers?
Oh, there's a restaurant out here in Denver that does that, I think.
Yeah, it's called the heart attack.
It's a heart attack waiting to happen.
But we were, we were, we were, we'll get to some Broncos talk here in a minute, folks.
but we did bond over spaghetti and bread.
Like you butter a piece of bread, put the spaghetti on top,
and then you just go, fold it up, eat it, bone, weird.
We're, we're, the vibes were immaculate yesterday,
but let's get to some Broncos conversation.
I missed that.
Oh, yeah, let's do it.
And let's talk about this story real quick,
because I do want to focus on OTAs for a majority of the show,
but obviously the news coming out today involving Jonathan Cooper.
It's still very much a developing story,
so we don't really have much to add to it right now,
but we do understand what he's dealing with from an off-the-field situation.
Should get some updates on Monday as well and just kind of see how this situation plays out, Cody.
But, you know, just a delicate situation involving Jonathan Cooper that we have to acknowledge.
Yeah, and look, the main thing is, is that the Broncos that are aware of the situation,
they're gathering more information, as is the NFL, because this does fall under the NFL's personal conduct policy.
So everything will be reviewed.
They'll have everything that is needed.
The affidavits, the written statements,
Police reports are already out there.
Coup, from what I understand,
we'll have another appearance on Monday in front of a judge to enter a plea,
and then we'll go from there, from that standpoint.
But obviously, just something that is developing right now going forward,
and that's pretty much most of what we can share.
Yeah, and there's really, there's no opinion or anything that needs to be added to that.
I think it's just you've got to see how the situation plays out,
and we'll be able to react from there if there is something to react to that impact.
the Denver Broncos moving forward.
So obviously we'll see what happens there.
ESPN will be on top of it.
All your local reporters will be on top of it as well.
So definitely got to acknowledge that off the rip and away we go.
But let's talk about something exciting, right?
And Cody, both you and Nick were down there at OTAs.
I think Jalen Waddle, at least from my perspective, was the major talk of OTAs.
We'll get in some backup quarterback conversation.
Bo Nicks update, Evan Ingram, some conversation there as well.
I love Cortland Sutton, Colin Davis, Web, a mad scientist too.
So a lot to unpack from OTAs, but it kind of felt like the first day of school to a certain extent, right?
Getting back in the building with the Broncos.
And really, let's start with Jalen Wattle, guys, because it's the first time, I believe,
that the media has been able to kind of go face to face with Jalen.
They had that introductory Zoom call, but the first time you've kind of seen Jalen Waddle in the fresh with the orange and blue.
Or in the flesh, excuse me, with the orange and blue.
Yeah, no, it was nice to see.
And obviously, you know, when we talked to him on a Zoom call, he still didn't probably know too much about
like the ends and outs of Denver. Now that he's been here, he's been in the building for the
offseason lifting program, 100% attendance by the Broncos and that, by the way, which is obviously
great. But being at the on-field stuff, too, everything that's voluntary right now. It's great.
He's learning the nuances. And Sean Payton said he's picking up things very, very quickly.
He hopped on a show with my good friend, Trey Wingo, and had that conversation about just what he
brings to the table to grit. And that, you know, during the Wednesday practice, the one we were
not able to see is that you see it.
And Sean's like, let's go.
Like, you see it with that guy.
So that has me excited.
And then just watching him.
I mean, Ferg, you know this being a former safety.
Sometimes you're going to face these guys that are faster.
I feel like the game, there probably weren't as many dudes as Jalen Waddle.
Back, like when you played, there were probably more bigger body wide receivers size guys.
But the thing with Jalen that stands out to me is how quick, like, when he's running vertical
and his ability to just sit quickly without taking so many steps, he can decelerate quicker
than anybody I've seen in a Broncos uniform in quite some time.
That is a nice element to have.
Yeah, I would say that is a nice element to have.
And Sean was raving about his change of direction.
And when you're covering a guy who is as quick, and granted, you know, 510, 1.3, 185,
that's not a big, big body guy, but that's still a guy who can, you know, make defenses
kind of stay up at night.
And it's going to be interesting to see how they use them.
Now, Sean also said that he was happy with how quick he was learning, like you said, Cody,
but also his ability to play both inside and play outside almost instantaneously.
And that may sound really simple, but it's not.
Playing outside, you don't have to worry about blocking responsibilities.
Once you move inside at the slide, obviously you're going to run some routes,
but you may still have some blocking responsibility.
And I don't expect, you know, we're going to see a lot of Jaylon Wado trying to hunt up inside linebackers.
No, he's going to be that deep over guy, deep threat.
But here's what it also gives the Denver Broncos.
And Cortland kind of hint to it just a little.
When you think about Waddle, then you think about Corwin Sutton.
Then for me, that third guy, it's not Troy Franklin.
That third guy should be Marvin Mims.
And we should see more Marvin Mims in this offense under David Webb, you know, calling his scheme.
So hopefully that is what we get.
But if we don't, I'm going to be a little upset.
Well, we've been waiting for more Marvin Mims.
I feel like we did like half a dozen shows throughout the course of the regular season last year,
like banging the table for more Marvin Mims.
And I mean, that's kind of a good bridge because we'll circle in on Waddle,
but I think there's a larger theme here at whole.
I love their ringing endorsement for Cortland's son as it pertains to Davis Webb,
calling him a mad scientist kind of in the lab with how he's been operating
and kind of grasping his vision of this offensive.
And ultimately, like, it's going to probably take some time to see what this is
ultimately going to develop like because we know what training camp is, right?
They're not going to do a joint practice, which I thought was fascinating too.
Not that I put too much talk into that, but it's going to take some time to kind of see what
this full vision of Davis Webb's offense kind of looks like.
Yeah, it is.
And that's what Sean Payton said, right?
You'll really be able to tell during the season when he's actually calling the plays, right?
And I think that that's the thing to think about right now.
And what we kind of vamp on the last time we chatted and throughout the week on
locked on Broncos is I think what we're really looking at right now is those.
personnel groupings like how often are we seeing certain guys out there in what packages how often are
we seeing ingram utilized which you kind of alluded to earlier and we'll talk about as the show goes
along but those are really the things that i'm interested in as we don't know what play calling and
play sequencing is going to look like we know that he's using if uh if he's the mad scientist you know
he's using frankenstein's playbook uh already so he's got the you know dr frankenstein he's got the whole
list of recipes and serums and all those sorts of things to add his disposal.
So what we're really figuring out is what is Davis Webb's vision for the personnel?
Like to Nick's point, should it be more Marvin?
Should it be less Troy Franklin?
Should it be more Pat Bryant?
Should it be more Adam Trotman getting targets?
Like nobody's really talking about all those sorts of things because ultimately I think
we feel like what's true is this offense will filter the passing game, at least,
through Cortland Sutton and through Jalen Waddle.
And what I love about the dynamic of those two guys is what Cortland talked about.
There's no selfishness in that room.
There's no selfishness among the offensive playmakers.
And those guys really setting the tone in that way,
they're two guys who can be ball dominant.
They're two guys who can be featured in an offense,
but they're not going to require it every week.
They're not going to make a big stink about it.
They're not going to be making, create,
like the stuff that AJ Brown is saying to Drake May, he's laying it on pretty thick, you know,
based on what happened in Philadelphia.
So I think that there's just an interesting dynamic between these guys that's going on right now and being developed.
And yeah, it starts with Davis Webb executing a vision for every single one of them.
Yeah.
And I think you make a lot of sound points.
And again, Cody, like the ring endorsement, not just from Sutton on Davis Webb, but also kind of like the terminology.
that Sean Payton used about Jalen Wattel was like crystal clear, right?
And it feels like the reason I kind of use like this homecoming first day of school kind of
analogies because like it to me it's just now kind of starting to sit in that Jalen Wattel's a member
of the Denver Broncos.
Like we knew that the trade had gone through obviously.
But now that you're there at the facility and you're seeing all this kind of stuff,
like now it's really starting to take shape.
First note that I make on my handy dandy notebook up here at the top is Davis Webb
hands on with quarterbacks wide receivers during group work. You know, as I'm sitting there
watching practice, I got my handy dandy notebook. I'm writing down everything that I see, right?
Because there's so much that goes on during the course of practice. It's like, can I remember
this later on? Like, where is it going to fall in the process? And I tend to feel like I have a
photographic memory at times, but sometimes it could get jumbled and cluttered. But that was one
thing that I noticed. Like when the Broncos, when the QBs and the wide receivers, they're down on the
reds on the far side where we're not, we're not a lot to shoot that side of the field.
you see them as they're going through some route concepts there, some group routes with, you know, two wide receivers to one side, two on the other, left side, right side.
Davis is sitting there. He's talking to the wide receivers. He's talking to the quarterbacks.
I've seen Davis more hands on now in terms of his role with just not just quarterbacks, but the receivers.
Then I think I saw last year, and he was the passing game coordinator.
And so far it seems like Davis does have that full authority.
Johnny Moe is carrying out what Davis and Sean ultimately want for the offense as the passing game coordinator.
it does seem like right now, at least from our perspective,
and granted it was only one day of practice that we got to see.
It was very clear that Davis Webb, that was he was in command of that and
Sean was letting him, which I think is a good thing.
You have to.
And for Sean, you can manage.
You can be much more effective as a head coach from a, what's the word that I
want to say, like an executive approach as the head coach versus I have to have my hand
and everything.
Sean ultimately has final say, but now I think we are starting to see him
delegate things off, which I like. I think a lot of people have been asking for that,
because it does help his coaches grow. So hold on for a second. What do you guys think about
this combination of Sean Payton and Davis Webb? And what I mean by that, because we know
all last season, we were all frustrated with how many times that, you know, they were changing
personnel, they were bringing running backs in and out. And it wasn't somewhat of a steady
tempo to take advantage of the altitude. But Sean has also been known as,
being a great architect, if you will, a great play designer.
And some of the issues was, okay, well, the plays may be great in your head,
but the play calling wasn't what fans expected.
So now let's just say that Davis Webb is now in charge of calling the plays.
Sean is in charge of drawing them up and coming up with things from a schematic standpoint.
Do you guys think that that is going to be the working relationship between those two
or everything is going to fall on the shoulders of Davis Webb?
I think the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.
I think that Davis Webb will have some degree of creativity when it comes to drawing up the plays,
but I think it's kind of like the protege, right?
Like I think Sean's going to insert some influence for sure,
and then I think it's going to be up to Davis Webb to kind of take that influence and use it how he sees fit.
Now, I'm sure there's going to be certain packages and design that Sean is going to want to run in certain situations.
But I would think Davis Webb is going to have some degree of autonomy.
I mean, when it comes to calling this offense until it's proven that it's not being successful.
We're going to find out how good of a chess player he really is, right?
I mean, that's part of this gig, right?
Is obviously you not only have to be able to call plays,
but you have to be able to scheme it up against some of the best,
especially early on in the season.
I mean, your first test in the chess match that is being a coordinator in the NFL
is going up against Steve Spagnolo, who's, you know, won multiple Super Bowls
and been one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL.
So can you pass those initial tests in terms of play sequencing, personnel groupings before you get into,
hey, I think, I mean, and I think that they do collaborate on this stuff.
I would, I would guess anyway on a week to week basis already of like, hey, what do you think could work against?
Because didn't Johnny Moe come back and draw up the Frank Crum play for the playoffs?
That's the lore that's going around in my brain.
So I feel like Davis Webb definitely has the ability to say, hey, let's draw something up for.
Ingram, right, which we saw in the preseason and we never saw again.
I mean, that's just the reality of it, right?
Is, hey, here's an idea.
Let's get one of our biggest and fastest guys running at full speed and hit him in stride
with the football and watch him turn up the field for 60 plus yards.
That's a novel concept.
Who would have thought?
Who would have thought that it could possibly work?
So I think there might be like, to your point, Nick, maybe even like the simpler stuff.
It's not necessarily even maybe like drawing up something that's new.
but it might be saying, hey, like, you know, dust off these couple of plays right here that we haven't used in a long time and say,
we got the players to run these plays.
Let's put these back in to the game plan.
So is he going to be like that coach from Waterboy?
Yeah.
He goes left.
No, he goes left.
Coach Klein.
Yeah.
He said, Coach Klein.
You got to Coach Klein.
You guys sit down and have some water, Coach Klein.
But I do think Davis, I think Davis, I think, I think Davis Webb is going to have a lot more autonomy than people thinking.
David in the chat actually brings up a great point because this I do know is confirmed, at least from the player side, is that the play terminology is going to be much shorter.
You're going to have more, I would say, specific words.
Like you make, you'll call out, you'll call out formation, but then it'll be formation code word.
And that code word tells everybody exactly what they're supposed to be doing from the.
the receivers instead of X-fly X-fly Z-curled Y drag bingo X-47 on
Donut pizza.
Right?
He'll check with me Ringo Ringo.
Like all these crazy stuff.
Like I don't know if you guys have seen.
I'm sure you have.
I'm not the only one who's.
With it a Drew Brees?
The Drew Brees play call that Sean Ranez.
I'm sitting there.
I'm like, he says something like, he gave like this lengthy one.
Then there was like buster bluff in it.
I'm like, what does that even mean?
And so it means like, well, hey, this is the initial call.
But if they come on this, we have a kill.
We have a kill in this.
And then it's this play.
And then this is the protection from the offensive.
Like it is complex.
And that's one thing about Sean Payton's offensive is crazy.
And so when you factor in like last year with Sean in the last couple of years,
Sean calling plays, getting personnel and then getting the play call in,
then Bose getting to the line of scrimmage.
Hey, there's eight seconds left.
I don't have enough time to read the defense.
you give formation and a code word.
And within that, every position knows what that means.
Now you have efficiency.
You have tempo and timing.
And it is much more, I would say, compact.
And that's the vibe from people that I've talked to,
some players I've talked to,
that is the approach is that the terminology is much shorter.
Cody, what do you say to those individuals,
both fans and those in the media,
who say, well, when you have to somewhat water down,
dumb down or shorten calls like that,
that means as though your players are not smart enough to get and work your game plan.
No, yeah, that's, that's a narrative of UCL time.
Like, oh, they have to dumb the playbook.
It's not dumbing it down.
It's condensing it because what is the ultimate thing that matters in the course of an NFL game?
Time.
You only get 60 minutes of it and you get 40 seconds on average per play to get it in.
One play ends.
You're gathering your wits about you.
And now you're seeing what personnel comes in on the field.
defensively if you're the offense. And now based on that, all right, hey, we're going 12 personnel.
We want this look. Hey, we got this. But if this isn't there, we got to kill, kill this.
Like, it's time-consuming. Like, people don't realize how fast that 40 seconds in between every play actually goes.
But yeah, I always find that narrative crazy. I mean, these guys, these guys aren't dumb. They are
legitimately smart. Being in the NFL is not for people who can't comprehend or gather it.
Plain and simple.
It's like that Justin Timberlake movie.
I think it's called Time, right?
Yeah.
Oh, great.
What a poll.
What a poll.
See, you know.
Young guy knows some game.
All right, my man.
Shoot.
Come on out, brother.
Come on.
All right.
Let's have a quick break.
When we come back, it's a good bridge.
We got an update on quarterback Bo Nix who's going to be responsible for, you know,
comprehending all of this and distributing these plays, whether it's from Davis Webb or
Sean Payton.
So we hit a quick break.
We'll come back.
Give you guys a little update on Bo Nix.
And it's a positive one right here.
on your Locked-on Bronco Squad Show back after this.

It is almost weekend time and I hope everyone's going to have a good weekend out there.
And some good vibes when it comes to Bo Nix heading into the weekend, guys.
Sean Payton yesterday talking about how Bo has been throwing
and the anticipation that we should be able to see him out there
sometime around mini camp here in the coming weeks, Cody.
Yeah, so from what I understand, like for Bo,
Bo, obviously he's been at the facility every single day.
That's not a surprise there for him.
But, you know, especially like during the week of OTAs,
the football stuff beginning,
Bo has been doing a lot of his work in the mornings,
going through and getting treatment throughout the rest of the day.
So initially when we took the field yesterday,
Bowler obviously is not out there physically participating.
He ended up sneaking over.
He was wearing a hoodie.
He was chatting with Logan Kilgore, Davis Webb, and Sean Payton.
And then he went back inside.
So he was spotted, but he wasn't doing anything yet.
And then Sean gave the update after practice that he has been throwing more so pre-practice stuff,
the stuff that we don't normally get to see his media and that we should expect to see him
on a limited basis, mandatory minicamp.
I don't know if he told us that directly, but he did say expect to see him during those
one of those three days that we're out there, he told Trey Wingo that Bo is expected to be a limited
participant during mandatory minicamp. So what does limited participation mean? That means
individual drills. And Ferg, you know me, man, I love indie period. I love indie drills because
that's the fundamentals. That's the stuff. That's the handoff, the mesh point with the running
backs that's going through and just hitting your dropbacks and those light passes to the trainers.
And obviously, who's the who's the guy that snaps the ball all the time to the QBs?
Do you know him?
Yeah, that's Harry.
Harry, yeah.
And then throwing the ball to Harry.
Harry's the goat, man.
Yeah.
Here's something that's interesting.
Even with Bo throwing passes,
is similar to the videos that showed up
over the past two weeks.
Patrick Mahomes, you know,
in Chief's uniform throwing passes.
That's all great.
When you have a lower leg injury,
I know Mahomes is more severe than Bowes,
but it's the plant and drive.
It is transfer of the weight,
from the back foot to the front foot,
being able to show that you can, you know,
roll out something that made Bo really one of the better young
quarterbacks in the league last season,
being able to roll out, stop, squared shoulders to the line of scrimmage
and throw the ball down the field.
To me, when I see that, that's how I'm going to judge him
before we ever get to a game.
Because, I mean, everyone looks great just standing,
throwing a pass to, you know, Harry or someone else,
but it's that plant drive.
And it's once he gets out,
out there, is it going to be a little swelling in that foot?
And Cody, you and I've had lower leg injuries before.
That's the big mental part you have to get through.
So it's going to be interesting to see how Bow battles that.
But I thought it was wise that the team decided not to have him out there on the field
because everyone was wondering if he was going to be out there
and what he was going to be doing so everyone can kind of put on their doctor's cap
and start their evaluation.
Bro, it's crazy because we get out there.
everyone's like, it's number 10 out here.
It's like, guys, calm down.
Like, chill out.
It's not going to be groundbreaking for you.
Like, if he's out here, that's great.
If he's not, that's fine.
Like, it's not like, oh my God, Mr.
Mr. President.
Like, it's nothing like that.
Like, they don't have anything like that like with Bo.
It was crazy.
But automatically, too, I already saw it.
Like, people were already looking at like the one picture that got out.
It was Boe wearing anything on his ankle.
It's like, folks, take a deep breath.
Take a deep breath.
I can tell you this,
Bo wasn't wearing anything on his ankle.
But when he comes out there as a football player, when he's dressed up, will he?
Maybe.
Maybe not.
But, I mean, he's in a good spot right now.
It's crazy there.
But shout out to Darien in the chat when talking about the W drill.
I love the W drill because it's working on your 45 degrees, back pedal T-step break.
I don't know if you were a T-step guy.
I'm always a T-step guy, but one of the best fundamental drills, man.
Parcells didn't like that T-step.
He don't like that.
You got you got to get out of that transition right now.
Paddle transition, get downhill.
Man, that's crazy because I feel like the T-steps
the quickest way to get downhill.
You know who else doesn't like the T-step
and doesn't teach it?
Saban.
No.
Well, Saban is one of those guys, but also Coach Prime.
He hates the T-Step.
He hates it.
I don't like Coach Prime.
I love Coach Prime.
You know back when I was a teenager,
Like when I was like 17 years old, Dionne Sanders called me.
He called me.
Like, because he did one of these things.
He said, give me some numbers.
I'm going to call some people.
I was like, all right, put my number out there.
Dion called me.
We talked for five minutes.
And then boom, like, I love Dion.
Really?
Yeah.
Yeah, it was cool.
It was cool, especially because I was a, you know, I was a corner.
That was my, that was my thing.
So.
Oh, man.
Game is game.
And a great, a great, dear.
And T-Step, avoids blown out your Achilles, especially like, some people got bad ankles.
Bad ankles. You got bad ankles and you can't plant.
You better do some ankle flex and exercises.
Yeah, just depends. I always like to just be fast.
Fast and furious, baby.
That's why it's your favorite.
You live my life a quarter mile at time, baby.
Oh, great.
You almost have me.
You didn't even have your own car.
On the quarterback note, I mean, I can't lie.
We have to talk about it.
I'm kind of nauseated about it.
it, the backup stuff.
Why?
From what I...
If Bonnix goes down and don't matter, it's GGs, bro.
Well, yeah, that's the case for every quarterback.
That's the case for every quarterback in the NFL
right now.
Well, some backups are better than others.
No, no, no, no.
I don't think there's a quarterback right now.
I can't think off the top of my...
There's a quarterback who's a backup somewhere right now
that if the starter goes down, oh, hey, we're not going to miss a B.
We're going to go right to the Super Bowl.
Like, especially on a winning team.
Those guys don't really...
I just respect Nick Foles like that, bro.
Okay.
So you don't believe...
Even Mitch and Trubisky?
Hell no.
I think Mitch is like an upper.
Is Garabolo with Freation still?
I know he's with the Rams.
He's pending retirement.
He's contemplating retirement right now.
Okay.
Jimmy G.
Here's the thing.
Jimmy G.
didn't win the big game.
He missed Emmanuel Frickin Sanders in the Super Bowl,
which would have beat Kansas City,
and maybe would have shut down the dynasty wide open, too.
One and a half.
Friday Niners, baby, Friday Niners.
Can I say?
Who's the back of quarterback in Dallas?
We don't have to.
You don't have to talk about that too, bro.
We don't have to talk about that organization.
It's what I thought about there.
But I will say this.
Per source, the guys at your station were saying, there's no backup quarterback controversy.
There is a backup quarterback competition.
John Peyton himself even said it earlier this off season.
So once again, I'm telling you, if the guys on the B team ain't around, like, I go up a little bit more.
I don't know what you want me to do, bro.
I'm just fenting out loud.
Okay, really think about it.
All of the two quarterbacks, obviously,
Gerrits Stidham has the most playing experience.
And his entire career, he's been a backup, right?
And we got a chance.
You can talk about the weather
and you can talk about all the negative you want to,
but Jaros Stidham had his opportunity.
And the biggest game of his life on the biggest stage,
and he did not come and play well.
He kind of laid an egg.
He did exactly what I thought he would do.
I didn't want him to do it.
But as a backup, you're being put in a position.
And I don't know if any of you guys were on that train of those changing your avatar to put an off a steady.
Steady city.
Yeah, all of that.
And Sean Payton, bless his heart, he had to do that because Sam Ellinger didn't have a lot of playing time.
And he was making on Gerrits Steadham coming through.
but Stidham didn't come through.
So if I am George Payton, I'm Sean Payton,
I'm thinking like, you gave Stidham his opportunity.
Now it's time to give Ellinger an opportunity.
So hopefully with Bo being out,
they're giving Sam Ellinger more of those first team reps
so he can develop chemistry
because I don't think that if something happened to Boe again,
that you can believe in Stidham.
Because remember,
Stidham not only lost that game against the Patriots
when he played against the Raiders,
He lost that game.
He played against the Charger.
Lost that game too as well.
I think they won the Chargers game.
Say again?
I think they won the Chargers game.
It was close.
Oh, oh, the backup against the game against Trey Lance.
No, no, no, no, no.
Well, that one, but he played in another year.
The Rush year.
He played against the Charter's two.
Little Jordan Humphrey had like this crazy 50-something,
54-yard catching run.
Oh, yeah, I remember that play.
But the Raiders game was rough.
But here's the thing, too.
I even thinking, Sarah, I'm curious for your thoughts on this.
athletically, Jared just isn't the guy that can keep drives alive with his legs, right?
I think he's deceptive at times as an athlete, but that's not a strength is.
Whereas Ellinger, he is athletic.
He is mobile.
He can do that stuff.
It's just about what is it that the Broncos are looking for.
And I think obviously as well, it was set in the check as we brought this up a little bit
earlier, what Sean said in the off season.
He said at the NFL annual meeting, we see competition there at the backup quarterback job.
Nothing is set in stone and something we're excited to see.
It was like that last year and it's going to be the same way this year.
Yeah, I think that stylistically speaking in a game like that where there's snow and elements and everybody's slipping around,
I don't know.
Sam Ellinger to me seems like the stylistically preferable option because of what I remember him doing all the time at Texas, right?
So I feel like you've got, I know Jarrett Siddham was once a dual threat prospect coming out back of the day.
but when it comes to the NFL and just the way that he plays,
I feel like Sam Ellen,
Ellinger really gives you that option to,
hey, he could have,
I mean,
he could have bullied the ball forward a couple times where it was needed.
I mean,
I don't know that he can drop the ball in the basket to Marvin Mims,
just like Stidham did early in that game.
But if it was a completely climate-controlled environment,
I think the Broncos win that game fairly easily, right?
I don't think you're stopping.
even Stidham in the second half of that game without the elements, right?
So that really played such a huge factor.
And I do think that Ellinger stylistically,
and to Nick's point about the opportunity,
how interesting would it be if the primary opportunity that he's gotten
over the last couple of years to start the AFC championship game
ended up with him getting his job taken away the very next training camp?
I mean, that would be wild.
I know those guys are really tight, though, and I don't know, like, how much the Broncos put that into consideration.
I know that, like, I'm sure a lot of guys on the team are friends, but when it comes to the quarterback room, do you mess with that?
If that, you know, if you're thinking about making a switch at the backup, like, I don't know.
I don't know what the Broncos thought process is there, but I do think that that's definitely something to consider for sure.
I've got a thought about the backup quarterback situation.
Let's hit a quick break here real quick.
We'll pick back up with that and then transition to some other topics right here on your Lockdown Broncos Squatchew.
Cody, now is a good time to let the fine folks know about the Everyday Air Club.
If you want an ad-free version of Lockdown Broncos, join the Everyday Air Club, folks,

Be sure to check that out. Cody and Sarah do an absolutely phenomenal job with the Everyday Air Club.
One more thought on the backup quarterback situation.
You have to remember that the Broncos were able to.
to win over Sam Ellinger to not prevent him, but like they were able to retain Sam
Ellinger as opposed to him going to Indianapolis where he would have had an opportunity to play
meaningful games down the stretch for a Colts team that was reeling, right? So like what did the
Broncos kind of sell him on to get him back in the building? Was it this open competition for
backup quarterback? And I think Nick, you make some good points. Like, well, I've always been
relatively optimistic on Jared Stidham. And look, obviously the lasting memory of Jared Stiddle was how
he performed in the AFC championship game. I mean, how much.
many backup quarterbacks are you throw into that situation that are going to thrive.
So just to be fair in that sense.
But there's a reason why Sam Ellinger decided to come back.
And ultimately, I think an opportunity to cement himself as the backup is part of the reason.
I think a lot of it is just getting more experience in this system and just knowing like,
hey, I get to learn from Sean Payton.
Davis Webb is a hot name right now.
And obviously these guys like Davis Webb, here's the thing, Davis and Sam.
like they know a guy and Jared like they all work with the same quarterback trainer in Texas.
They all work with that guy.
Like they're all very close-knit.
But it's it's about saying, hey, like I want to grow here personally as a quarterback.
And I feel like this is the environment I can do it.
Even if that means turning down an opportunity to go play else where like think about it this way,
you can play.
But if it's not the right system or it's not the right fit for what you can do skill set-wise
or if an offense isn't tailored around your strengths, how much are you going to grow in that situation?
Right.
If he goes to Indianapolis, what would it have looked like?
I felt like he could have operated things pretty well.
But I just think his own personal motivation is I want to keep growing as a player.
And I feel like I can use this experience here in Denver, take this maybe a year, two years from now.
And then I can maybe go elsewhere and apply that.
Or if Davis Webb gets a job elsewhere, well, guess what?
Hey, there's the ties that bind right there.
All of that stuff definitely factors into the equation.
Boys, we all know, I mean, the power of the women in our lives.
Like my wife is talking to me every day about did you see Jared Stidham's wife post this?
Did you see Bo Nix's wife post this?
And I'm like, no, I need you to keep me updated on all that stuff.
But like, I mean, if your wife says, no, we're staying in Denver, Sam's like, hey, you guys want me to stay here, right?
You guys, you wanted me to, you know, be on the practice squad.
I thought that's what we talked about.
So I do think that stuff is a huge factor, honestly.
Like, this is their livelihood.
This is their, obviously their football careers, but like you said, Cody, the football development
side of things, I mean, we saw the benefits for Zach Wilson made a bunch of money, right?
Sam Ellinger, he's going to be able to compete for a QB2 job and the Broncos did right by him.
So there's also that element of it is when, okay, you sign on the practice squad, you do us a solid,
then we call you up all throughout the season and give you those game day checks.
And all of a sudden, it's a I scratch your back, you scratch mine, you give us a roster,
when we need it. We give you a roster spot when we have it. It's a mutually beneficial thing that
all plays into the bigger team building concepts that the Broncos execute so, so well.
Like they have so many different examples from undrafted free agents to practice squad guys,
to bringing guys like Lil Jordan Humphrey back, to be able to point to any free agent or
anybody coming in and say, hey, look what we did with, look what we did with Jayquan Macmillan.
Look what we did for Sam Ellinger.
Look what we did for Lil Jordan Humphrey.
Look what we did for Jolil McLaughlin.
This is McLaughlin's fourth year with the team.
Dude played at Youngstown State.
So I think it speaks to a broader, you know, way of operating that the Broncos have solidified.
And that really makes them one of the most well-run organizations in the NFL.
Well, this situation for Sam is really simple.
it was short-term goals versus long-term goals.
Yeah, every player, well, let me take that back.
Not every player in the NFL wants to be a starter.
Let me say that.
I know that goes against what most fans really think,
but not every player wants to be a starter.
But for him, the idea was, okay, mid-season,
yeah, the Colts are having issues with their quarterback.
You can go there, right?
You can start for a couple of games,
but what does that mean for your legacy long-term, right?
If you stay here with the Broncos, you have an opportunity to compete, be a backup quarterback, still make your money.
But once again, here's the difference between where the Broncos are and the Colts are.
One's a Super Bowl-bound team.
And the other is just a hopeful.
You can go to Indy, right, waste out on an opportunity, go there, play, don't play while.
And that ruins everything for you down the law like Cody talked about when you look at Davis Webb.
At some point, Davis Webb is going to be a head coach in the league.
and he's going to need someone to be his Kirk cousins to may not be a starter,
but someone to show the younger quarterback how to play within the system.
And I'll tell you this, you can play a long time in the NFL with several positions,
long snapper, kicker, and freaking backup quarterback.
So you decide what you want to do.
And oh, by the way, you know this system.
You don't know that system in Indy.
You know this system very well.
And we're not really tied to Jared Stenheim.
Right?
We're not tied.
You know, next year, we're going to give you an opportunity to compete.
So if you're thinking about that, and like Sarah said, you go home and you tell your wife that,
guess what she's going to tell you?
I love Denver.
And we got an opportunity to stay here because I know you're going to beat that other guy out.
You know why?
They said, keep your friends close, but keep your enemies even closer.
Yes.
Controversity.
Yeah.
always something to talk about in the world of Broncos football.
I mean, no, ultimately, it's going to be interesting to see how it shakes out here.
I would think that Sam's going to have every opportunity to go out there and solidify himself as the Broncos quarterback.
And to Cody's point, he actually might fit the system a little bit better, along with the relationship with Davis Webb.
So we'll definitely have to see how that plays out.
But other takeaways from OTAs for me, we hit on Jalen Waddle.
I mean, go back to just receiver for just a second.
Not that I expected anything different.
but I thought Cortland Sutton gave excellent answers about kind of welcoming Jayland Waddle with open arms
and he had that one question about like are you willing to sacrifice you know receptions and targets and all
that kind of stuff for the betterment of the team and I thought his answer was spectacular about you know
all I care about is winning right now and not that I expected anything to hear anything differently
necessarily from court this is a guy who's been paid has gone through the contract stuff with the
Broncos but I think that also kind of just speaks to the the state of the wide receiver room I don't know
what that means for Troy, Marvin, and Pat necessarily, but of your top two dogs, nice to see
if they're on the same page, fellas.
Well, Sean gave an answer.
I asked the question about, yeah, Mar, not Marvin, about Troy and Pat specifically.
And Sean himself went out of his way and mentioned Marvin as well, which I think it's good.
I mean, we can mention these guys till, you know, our fate, we can name everybody off.
But the fact that Sean went out and named Marvin, I hold promise in that.
But, you know, basically it's like, you know, these two guys, I think.
we can all assume we're going to be the primary target share guys here inside of the offense.
But that means that you can do more with Troy.
You can do more with Pat.
You can do more with Marvin.
And I mean, it really can be a pick your poison.
You can get specific personnel on the field.
My goodness.
Sorry for sneezing live on air here, folks.
My goodness.
But yeah, the more you personnel you can get in, like let's say you're facing a defense that you know that their nickel is super slow in comparison to,
to Marvin or right you want to get like specific matchups when i put
Marvin and you like Troy against this guy you can dictate some of these
matchups by who you put out on the field so i think there's a strategy behind it though
the primary guys are going to be courtland and jalen they're going to open everything else up
and even cordon went out of his way to say we're going to have really good run game
which that's the case man it's going to be a fun season i'm excited
the plot thickens yeah there was just a stat posted on twitter as we speak about
J.K. Dobbins having one of the highest percentages of his runs going for 10 plus yards last season.
So we know that with him back, and it sounds like he looked really fresh out there as well,
which is a great note from OTAs like JK.
It sounds like Brandon Jones said if the Broncos would have made the Super Bowl,
he would have found a way to play because, you know, the Super Bowl is what it is.
So great to see all these guys back.
I think in terms of the competition, some in the chat are making some great points about
Jada Barron being that guy that right now we're just kind of like in limbo of what is his role
going to be? Is the vision still for him on the, you know, outside or as like kind of a do-it-all
guy in the secondary? It seems like the competition is going to be opened up on the outside.
I was fascinated to hear that. I know we've talked about it, but to hear Sean Payton say that,
yeah, he'll compete for snaps at the outside corner and that's, you know, where he's maybe
going to end up long term. I know Sean didn't say that now, but Vance said that.
last year in an interview with Peter Schrager.
So I think that it's important to maybe keep a close eye on that.
Cody and I talked about that on our episode today of like,
what do you do there?
Do you keep depth for the sake of depth or do you get a return on,
you know,
one of those guys knowing that one of them is your long-term player
and the other one's not?
I'm fascinated by how this could all play out.
Well,
the way it's going to play out,
we know that Riley Moss is on expiring deal.
So, I mean,
obviously you drafts,
Jard A. Barron in the first round. He's got to get on the field somehow.
So that is the competition for training camp, watching those two guys compete.
But also, I mean, Sean said it himself. They're going to try to find ways to get Jody
Barron on the field. And I'm thinking they're going to go big nickel.
Because think about Durrin James, right? When Jesse Mentor was with the charges, how well he
he used Durbin James in the box. Jalen Ramsey, who was a corner with the Steelers, surprisingly,
they used him in their big nickel position, putting him in the slot.
And he was more physical than I've ever seen him at the corner position.
So that is something that Vance Joseph and, you know, Coach Robinson,
they can play with it, right, until they try to figure out what to really do with this situation.
Because we all know, you can't drive someone in the first round and just sit them for two years,
whether they play the corner position or they play the quarterback position.
At some point, you want to get that guy on the first round.
field. So we're going to be able to tell before training camp is over and the Broncos play their
first game, who's the leader in the clubhouse? Are you team rally or you team Jardet? That's where we are
right now. It's going to be a fascinating one. I think I know where the fan base is going to
sign on that one. But ultimately, we'll see how that plays out. Let's hit our final break.
And when we come back, kind of some closing thoughts here on what we learned from OTAs and maybe
looking forward to next week's media availability. All that more when we come back right here on
your locked on Barakos squad show. All right. Welcome on back into the program. I'm Elop Piro, Cody
Warwick, Sarah Ben and Dr. Nick Ferguson, we are your Lockdown Broncos squad show. Appreciate you guys
rocking with us on this Friday night stream. It's a fun time to do a stream in a show. And obviously,
a lot to unpack and react to from OTAs this week with the Denver Broncos. I mean, we've talked
by the receivers pretty extensively. Obviously, backup quarterback, Bo Nix update.
Cornerback is definitely going to be an interesting one. I think that will probably,
I think Jalen Waddle will be the most hot button topic throughout the course of training camp.
I think Jonah Coleman and the running back room will get a lot of buzz, but I do think
cornerback as well. That's going to be a major talking point just because of the expectation
associated with Jada Baron, right? The Jim Thorpe Award winner, a guy that the Broncos
used a first-round pick-on and kind of a win-now window at not maybe necessarily a win-now or a position
of need, I guess is probably the best way to put it. So that'll definitely be something to keep an eye on.
On top of tight-end, Evan Ingram, I think a lot of people are fascinated to see ultimately how
the tight-end battle will shake out, fellas. Yeah, I mean, I would even throw a linebacker out there
too. Yeah, linebacker's good. Now that we know that Jonah Ellis is staying home and outside
linebacker, according to Sean.
I am excited to see a lot more
of Red Murdoch and Tori and
York together, like on the field
together. Ferg, I don't know from your
vantage point where you were able to see, but when I
saw number 42 and number 50
at linebacker on the field at the same time,
I liked it. There was a little bit of an
inadvertent like bump into Michael Bandi on
a slant route and Andy goes
to the ground. Right, that's what you want to call it.
And then
Tori and York
was in coverage pretty well. A few times
when they're playing some of their match concepts
that are picking up a guy and staying on him
and kind of smothering him, taking away a guy
as an option across the middle of field.
Like these two guys, when they get reps in the preseason together,
all I'm excited about it.
These two guys could be three and four here for Denver.
I think that they're going to be three, three and four
because once again, when you come in with a guy
and you work on that chemistry,
to me now, it's like you're blood brothers now, right?
and the right hand is known what the left hand is thinking.
And they're both trying to learn the defense at the same time.
And it helps with development because you're making your mistakes together, right?
So once you get on the field, you get a better feel for what they know
and you get a better feel for what you don't know as a player
and that you guys can feed off of one another.
And that's the thing that makes Alex Singleton and Justice Renard, you know,
so good as the starting linebackers.
They've been in this situation before.
So the backups, it's going to be interesting.
But, yeah, I was surprised when I saw Jonah Ellis back at outside lineback.
I was like, what the hell is happening?
And what did Sean say?
He was like he was too good there to move?
Yeah.
He's playing too well there, which, I mean, it is a point.
Like, he was playing really well.
Like, when he's healthy, he's one of the best edge guys behind Coup and Benito.
And look, now you're getting that contribution, not only from Jonah,
but you're getting it from Dondri.
Now you're going to get it from Q Robinson, but the Broncos could, in fact, have a unique situation.
Even if Jonah is an outside linebacker, on game day, they could have five outside linebackers active because there is some flex capability that Jonah certainly has it.
And Sean did say, like, there might be some packages we could put him in at that, but his home is going to be an outside linebacker.
So think about it on game day.
You get Dandre, Q, and Jonah on the field together on special teams on game day.
And now you can give Jonathan Cooper, Nick Bonito,
you can give these guys a little bit more reprieve in situations where they got to come off the build.
Like the Broncos have a very good luxury right now with their pass rush group.
And here's the thing too.
I'll even mention this.
Johnny Walker Jr.
He had a couple of plays yesterday.
And I'm watching, I got a scribbled down here on my notepad where he's working against an offensive tackle.
I believe it's on my second page right here.
It says here, Johnny Walker, inside wrist.
off the left side and he was in the quarterback's face like that forcing the quarterback to have to
scramble out it's exciting like when you have all this but ultimately can you do this stuff when
the pads come on in july that's going to be the biggest thing yeah and johnny walker was their
highest priced undrafted free agent last offseason went to iR and uh we didn't really get to even
see him in the preseason i don't think so i think this was one of those situations where we just
yeah we are operating with a clean slate completely
with him. I will say with the Jonah Ellis thing and even, you know, considering Jonathan Cooper's
contract in the future, nothing to do with the off field stuff, but his cap hit does triple
more than triple next off season. So it's roughly five-ish million this year. It's 17 plus million
next year and the year after that. So keeping Jonah Ellis at the edge is maybe even a long,
longer term play with, you know, the Broncos needing to potentially make some roster decisions
down the line. I think that's a big one to consider there. But also now with Jonah not
factoring in at linebacker, I mean, I hate to say it this way, guys, but it's true. Like,
the Broncos are now one injury away at linebacker from having who at start next to one of
those two guys. Red. That really, yeah, I'm fine with Red. I mean, but he ain't going to be
always going up against your favorite wide receiver's favorite practice squad receiver, which is
my new nickname for Michael Bandy.
I really don't know what to,
I don't know what to expect from those guys on a defense that's supposed to be
one of the top two or three bests in the NFL.
And now you're talking about, all right,
we brought back Stronad.
We brought back Singleton.
Great.
Those guys can be the primary guys to eat up snaps.
However,
we know that sometimes the best laid plans,
you know,
they,
you got to throw those out the window because something can happen at any time.
So what if something does happen at any time?
I know Sean said at the end of June,
check back with him where the roster's at.
Now with Jonah going back to the edge or never leaving,
I guess we can say that way because I don't even think you practiced at linebacker.
I think it's probably safe to say that at some point in the next three,
four weeks,
the Broncos are going to need to add at the linebacker position,
at least somebody to come in for camp.
I mean, you want to see these young guys get a chance,
but this is not a time for messing around with the idea of unless you believe,
hey,
if you say Red Murdoch can start,
great,
but you didn't take him to the last pick in the draft.
I think it's fun that he could become something,
but to ask him to be something right now,
that's not fair to him.
And that's not where this team is at.
This team is in a Super Bowl window.
You have to dot your eyes and cross your T's everywhere.
There's no such thing as a perfect roster.
But dang it, there's players out there right now who are looking for jobs, who are just ready.
I mean, there's players that would come and be part of this team.
So I just think you can't, you can't get caught in a bad situation, especially at that position this year.
See, Sarah, you're absolutely right.
They're probably going to make some moves after watching what takes place in these OTAs,
seeing who, which guys are stepping up.
Now, if Murdoch is stepping up, then the Broncos are not going to do.
that because I told you earlier when a question about what are you going to do with Jad E. Barron?
Big nickel is going to be an extra defense for them. That's going to be someone of an avenue
or something, an extra weapon that, you know, Bass Joseph keeps in his side pocket, right?
Going big nickel because when you go big nickel, of course, the defender gets smaller,
but you got more speed on the field. And if you teach any one of those guys how to kind of read the run,
that would be a perfect fit.
The reason I'm saying this, guys,
because early on in my career,
that's how I got on the field.
That's how I became a starter by Bill Parcell saying,
hey, let's get an extra guy on the field against Peyton Manning.
And oh, by the way, you know, if you can make plays,
we're going to give you more plays
and put more more responsibilities on you.
For me, where the Broncos are from a secondary standpoint,
they have a lot of talented guys, right?
And this is why you add.
dip. So even though I know that may not answer a lot of questions for a lot of people as far as the linebacker is concerned, but to me, at least you have somewhat of an outside option.
They do like Jordan Turner a lot too. I know Daryan was pointing out in the chat. I know for a fact that Jordan Turner's view is a guy they feel like is going to get a lot of special teams wraps this upcoming season. And I liked what I saw from him. But I mean, Sarah, to your point, you didn't mention who are some of the names out there, maybe some veteran guys at linebacker that could be options if Denver does.
And also, Drew Sanders, he's staying at outside linebacker.
I know that was thrown out there in the chat.
Dary and asked that question, he's not going back to offball.
They got those guys there.
And look, I was watching that group.
It was Singleton, Sternad.
It was Red Murdoch, York, Corrine, Reed, Lavel Bailey,
as those primary guys over there getting reps and opportunities during individual drills.
So, I mean, and even all these guys are going to make it, like all of them.
Like, it's going to be Sternad and Singleton.
And I think Red Murdoch, absolutely.
And I think York is going to have a chance.
I said Sarah, funny video earlier.
I was from the Pat Macfrey show early on this year.
I didn't notice it until today.
Randomly popped up on a TikTok algorithm,
but we all knew he was a team captain there at Texas A&M.
That Texas A&M defense has some dogs on it.
He was one of them.
And basically, you know, he's got the mindset.
If you ain't wearing our jersey, you know, forget about you.
That's the PG version way thing.
And they're saying it as they're walking out to the field next to the head coach.
And I don't know, it's just one of those things.
I was like that.
You want to bring dogs and you want to bring guys with captain traits.
And is that where the Broncos are going in too and saying we like the development of our younger guys?
We feel like they are more better suited at coming in than a guy coming off the street as a free agent,
having to learn this defense that Dre Greenlaw, you know, made the equivalency to as learning Spanish.
So that's also maybe another factor.
Yeah.
I mean, because, yeah, do you bring in the high profile guys?
because there are guys out there like Bobby O'Caricay, Bobby Wagner, Logan Wilson.
I'm surprised that's a carriquet hasn't gotten picked up.
Yeah.
Matt Milano is still out there as well.
But those, this is the rub.
It's like, well, yeah, there's names out there.
But are they willing to come and be a backup to Singleton and Sir Not?
And that's the question, right?
So as we get closer to the season, guys may be more likely to say yes to those sorts of things.
So that's where time is in the Broncos.
favor, I guess, in terms of at least having depth. But yeah, I mean, at this point, that ship
has kind of sailed. I mean, to Darien's point, like O'Kareke wasn't very good for the giants.
And, you know, so what does that say? Well, what it says is that you've got names that are out there
with experience and guys that at this point, you know, they are what they are. And so you kind of just
have to, you had your chance during free agency. And now you've kind of made your bed with this
group that you have. So, I mean, maybe it's traits. And I don't know what.
what that exactly all looks like or who could potentially be available.
But I do know that this time of year and in the coming, you know,
six to eight weeks, that's,
that's going to eat up.
So it might not necessarily be,
I guess,
even the free agents that are out there,
but players on teams right now that teams could be amenable to potentially trading.
I have two weeks left.
Like you guys like money,
don't you?
I mean,
who does,
of course.
Exactly.
Come on,
man.
So these players who were sitting out there who were not picked up and
didn't cash in and free agency.
The longer they sit out there, the price is driven down.
So if you want to continue your career, if someone say, hey, yo, you were started for this team.
We want you to come in and be a solid backup for us and be a leader in the locker room.
And we're willing to pay you half of what you made last year.
You have a choice.
But I bet his wife is going to say, get your ass out there and make that money.
Yeah.
You know, it's interesting, too, when you look at linebacker,
because I like the Broncos offseason, but it's probably their most vulnerable position
just an injury away from being in a pretty rough spot here.
So, yeah, we'll see how the Broncos kind of handle this linebacking situation ultimately.
And I agree with all of you guys, frankly, if there's still some time, there's still some runway, still some names,
and the Broncos might be able to add, whether it's a training camp invite or signing to a veteran mineral type of contract or something like that,
given their cap scenario.
So we shall see, but plenty more to unpack next week as we move closer and closer to mini-camp, training camp, all that good stuff.
the fellows will be out there as well for OTAs.
We'll get some updates there.
Got the dog in the show with Sarah.
Love to see that.
Any closing thoughts from any of you guys here real quick before we get out of here?
Hey, man.
Football's back.
I'm excited about it.
And there's nothing better than the smell of fresh-cut grass,
the sun being a little too hot, and the sound of the whistle's going.
Oh, man, I miss it.
We're here.
We're here.
And then we've got to go on the six-week break before training camp begins,
which is the worst part.
So, Cody, I thought you was about to go somewhere.
