Hello everybody and welcome to the P.H.O.Y. Eagles podcast, a little prime time edition for you on a Thursday night, live from the Xfinity Mobile Studio.
And presented by Ashley, Bo Wolf and E.J. Smith, after a busy day at the Eagles Complex, E.J., we finally got to lay eyes and ears.
A new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion. We also heard from Vic Fangio and Michael Clay. We will get into all of it.
Have excited were you to finally get to talk to Mr. Mannion.
and shake his hand.
I appreciate that.
He did the full Brandon Graham the day he was drafted move.
He walked in and shook everybody's hand and introduced himself
and asked for everybody's names knowing that he won't remember them,
but, you know, he's making that impression.
It's about that first impression.
Yeah, I have a picture, actually.
You know, maybe I'll, you know, let me see if I'll flash it up.
I have a picture of him shaking your hand specifically.
Really?
Yeah, you know, I got a, I'm team contact.
I was the last one.
All right, let's see if the camera can pick that up.
Rain jacket.
Yeah.
Rain jacket.
Last one to shake his hand.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It actually,
it looked like he was ready
to actually go up to the podium finally,
but I,
you know,
had to not.
Yeah,
you got to get your face.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Whenever there's a long wait for these guys,
I always wonder,
like,
is there a reason we haven't heard from them?
You know,
are they going to go up there and just totally bomb?
And obviously,
like dropping,
like,
racist,
anti-Semitic,
like slurs all along the whole time.
I did not suspect that that,
what happened for the record.
Or he's a, he's just a full-on 24-7 nudist.
No, I was not worried about that specifically.
But I did wonder, you know, what he was going to be like.
And I thought he came across really well, you know,
seemed like a guy who had done a lot of press conferences in his life.
You know, he was a quarterback for a long time.
And he seemed comfortable how many press conferences he was doing as a career backup
quarterback.
He was a starting quarterback in Oregon State.
He's got experience doing, doing decades ago.
Still, experience is experience.
And I think you can tell that he was comfortable up there to a certain.
Actually, I thought that he was kind of nervous.
Yeah, maybe like jittery for his first news conference.
But he, he was in good control over what he wanted to say and his messaging up there.
You know, usually sometimes at the first time, you know, press conference, you don't always get that.
So, no, I thought he sounds good.
He also sort of like deftly avoided a few little landmines even within answers to questions.
I thought he, yeah, I thought he handled himself very well.
Let's get into it.
No more dilly dally.
It's not often in the off season, this deep into the off season that we get real newsy day.
So let's get into it here.
I think we should start right away with what is the most important relationship in the building right now.
And that is the relationship between Sean Manion and Jalen Hertz and bringing along the quarterback and a new offense,
a much different offense than one that he has operated within in the past.
and let's just play you exactly what he said
because this is obviously a question
that he's going to have been prepared to answer.
He's going to have some put some thought into what it is
that he wants to message.
We're going to hear from Jalen Hertz,
presumably in the next couple weeks,
but this is what Sean Manning had to say about Jalen Hertz.
Yeah, Jalen's been awesome.
You know, I really think he can do anything we ask of him.
He's accurate.
He's a great athlete.
He really attacks the fundamentals.
That's what's been really fun to watch.
these last two weeks of phase two.
He's always coming, wanting more things to work on,
wanting more things regarding fundamentals, timing,
understanding the scheme.
He's hungry for more.
Those are the guys that are really fun to work with.
In terms of the skill set, though,
he has great arm strength, great accuracy,
obviously a tremendous athlete,
and he really attacks the game.
He has a great process in the meetings.
He always asks really, really thought-provoking questions.
He's detailed and attacks his fundamentals.
He's always a guy who stays after practice.
and is working on things.
Those are the guys you love to work with.
He later said, let's see, what was the exact quote?
Because we have the transcript.
I want to read exactly what he said.
Is it about how he can do anything you ask of him?
He can do anything.
Yeah, and he's hungry for more.
Yeah, I got the quote here.
He said, Jalen's been awesome.
He can do anything we ask of him.
He's accurate.
He's a great athlete.
He really attacks the fundamentals.
That's what's been really fun to watch these last two weeks of phase two.
He's hungry for more and those guys who those are the guys who are really fun to work with.
So I thought the hungry for more was a very interesting note when, you know, when hearing from Sean Manion.
I think that's good too.
Now he's speaking for Jalen, but I imagine that Jalen shares that sentiment.
And listen, you know, if they can't get along now, then, you know, then it's going to be a terrible sign.
This is going to be probably the, you know, the most pleasant part of their relationship.
we can obviously overanalyze initial press conferences and they don't mean anything.
You know, Nick Siriani bombed his first press conference and then he goes and wins a Super Bowl.
I thought Kevin Petulow gave a good introductory press conference last year.
Like this stuff doesn't really matter.
It's just we're getting a sense of these guys.
But, you know, the question you ask him about footwork, which I think we'll get to,
like all of the sort of under the hood things, like the changing of the verbiage in the eye.
offense, all that stuff. It's going to be an offseason of change to say nothing of moving on from
AJ Brown. But, you know, I'm looking forward to seeing these guys in the field. I thought
Mannion answered his Hertz questions well. Yeah, I thought the first thing you really wanted to know
about Sean Mannion, at least from my perspective as someone who's curious how this will go,
is what is he like as a communicator in front of a room? And this press conference setting is our
window into it. We don't get to see him, you know,
the meeting room. We don't get to see what he's like in front of the players. But I do think that,
you know, the time we spent with him today, if you are wondering how he will be as like, you know,
the person explaining his vision for an offense in front of a, you know, a group of players that
have had this experience a lot with different first time play callers. And Jalen Hertz in particular,
someone who we've talked about wants to know the why behind the system. I do think you can feel
good about Sean Mannion's ability to do that. I felt like listening to him, you know, speak about
scheme and speak about what's important to him in terms of like, you know, building an offense.
I heard a lot of Nick Sirianiisms coming from Sean Manion about playing tough, playing
physical.
And I think one of my takeaways is like, it's easy to see why Nick Siriani likes Sean
Mannion, you know, because I think that they are very much cut from the same cloth, you know,
sons of coaches.
He said during the press conference, coaching is teaching and it's truest sense.
And I pride myself on being a good teacher.
that's a very Nick Siriani thing to say.
So I don't think that they're like,
I don't think that they're overly,
like I don't think they're clones of each other.
But I do think they do have some similarities,
at least when they,
and how they answer questions and what they say is important to them
in the public eye.
I thought Elliot asked a good question about Jalen as a runner
and how much their,
Sean Manning is building that into the offense
and whether we should expect that to increase or decrease after a year
in which obviously Jailen ran.
less than ever before.
And Mannion said,
Gieland has a unique skill set in that way.
So that will certainly be a part of what we do.
But we're looking again at all areas as an offense
to really attack defenses on a weekly basis.
He is uniquely skilled in that way.
That will be a part of it,
but it won't be the only part of it.
It's going to be a system that we're building
and constantly looking to add, evolve.
How do we tweak things?
Yada, yada, yada.
But all of the other parts of his game, too,
we're going to lean into as well.
So what was your read on that?
I read that as noncommittal.
It doesn't sound.
And I think my, my own guess on what this offense will look like is informing my opinion that like, I don't think that Sean Mannion's looking at Jalen Hertz and saying, we need him to run.
I think the system that he's building is going to be.
I mean, I know that there will be more shotgun elements to a Sean Mannion system possibly than what you've seen from other systems in this from this tree.
You know, Fran has talked about how the Packers did a good job with the shotgun run game at times.
I'm sure that it will be an element.
But, you know, it's another thing.
I was going to get into this later in the show,
but we can talk about it very quickly here.
Like, I do find it interesting, like,
so many of the first-time coordinators that Jalen Hertz has had.
You know, we heard Brandon Graham talk about how,
on Anthony's show about how Jalen and him joke.
Like, it's like you got seven daddies and they've all walked out of your life.
And it's like, you know, it feels like at some point you would expect
Jaylen to have an offensive coordinator who's building an offense with,
like the inspiration being a dynamic triple threat quarterback like Jalen Hertz and so often like
the last few guys that have come through like it's Philip Rivers it's you know Jared Gough as
who Sean Mannion mentioned Kirk Cousins it's you know like Justin Herbert but yeah you know it's like
just one time because you get like a an OC that's like yeah like Josh Allen or Patma Holmes
or somebody that's like got that you know dynamic dynamic element to their game
The flip side to that is it's possible that not only the organization, but Jalen 2 thinks that it is time for them to think more about the long term big picture and he needs to run less.
And that's part of the reason and the impetus for getting into a new offense that's going to, you know, not require that of him as much.
Yeah, I think that's a good read. Yeah. I mean, I wonder if you gave Jalen Hertz truth serum. Like, does he want to be in an office?
that needs his running ability to sustain the run game and just the offense in general.
Yeah, I kind of think that Jalen, I think that Jalen likes when the running is happening
kind of like of his own accord and it's like a special scramble type deal and it's like,
you know, getting freaky in the open field as he said, you know, with a little headshake.
I don't think that he necessarily, or he can call his own number for a quarterback draw.
you know, on third and six, like we've seen so often.
I don't think that he necessarily feels like he needs to be a part of the,
like, weekly install.
I need to get my five carries kind of deal.
Yeah, like I have to be,
I have to make sure that that backside defensive end is respecting it.
Otherwise, I got to pull.
Yeah, I mean, and in his defense, like, very human element here,
it's like, if you are that guy, like, you are taking some hits every game
that you don't necessarily have to or want to take.
you know, where it's like, oh, we're just going to hit you just because you might keep it.
So it makes sense.
Speaking of that and, you know, the evolution that they're expecting him to make as a pocket passer in this offense,
the footwork is something that we heard a lot about at the Super Bowl with some of the coaching overlap with Sean Mannion.
You asked a good question to Mannion about the footwork and what maybe they will be expecting of Jalen Hertz.
And he gave sort of a kind of a romantic answer about, you know, the importance of,
of footwork as a quarterback.
I think, you know, the quarterback position, there's, there's so many things that go into it,
right? And you ask about footwork, I think everything has a predetermined timing and rhythm to the play.
And I think it's really installing a scheme that has proper timing and proper rhythm in terms of
how the different elements involved in the concept work with one another. So making sure that
the timing of one route marries with the timing of another route. And then you train the quarterback
to really understand that and listen to his feet.
You know, that's something that we talk about.
You know, if your footwork is sound and your rhythm's good,
you know, it's just going to feel like the ball wants to come out, right?
And then if it's not, then you move on.
And so those are all the things that go into training quarterbacks,
you know, but it really starts with the schematic element.
How do we make sure all the different route distribution, timing,
or, you know, using different, you're moving people around,
but how do we make sure that the timing of the play is sound?
and then how do we train the quarterback to understand what that timing is and how to how to best operate with it.
Listen to your feet.
That's pretty good.
And it's actually that was and it was good harmony too right there.
I found that answer very fascinating.
Should we have considered should Fran and I have considered feet for a quarterback in the body part draft from the end of yesterday's episode?
Fran is on my my blank list here, my bleep list.
I'm being Fran are beefing.
He's on your,
he's your celebrity hall pass?
No, no, no, not like that.
Ask me the question again.
Let me, let me, let me get another chance at that one.
So, like, mention, mention that guy again.
Fran?
Who?
Okay.
I don't know what friend did to you, but.
He grossly misrepresented something I said on the show.
Please.
You weren't there.
what are you going to do?
I was listening.
I thought that was a good answer.
Yeah.
My minute.
Go ahead.
Yeah, I think because of what it informs for me, which is like Jalen is going to have to, I don't want to say like evolve because I think that probably suggests that like he's not a great player already.
But I do think that when you look at the system, he's going to have to improve his footwork and his timing and anticipation.
And I thought that this answer from Sean Mannion really showed you the importance of all of those things
working together in the system.
You know, the timing and anticipation that is required in the system because of how many moving parts there are
and how they all interact with one another.
And then the quarterback needing to be on time with his feet to therefore be on time with the decision making and the throws in that system.
So to me, like, if this is something Sean Mannion Harps on, if it's something he's passionate about,
and it's something he can teach really well,
that's another reason to feel really optimistic
because that is, I think it's one of the few things
that you could say, like going into this next phase for Jalen Hertz,
if he can unlock really efficient footwork.
And I think, you know, we've heard Fran break it down several times last season,
really over the years that sometimes Jalen's feet do let him down,
you know, where he's a little late getting to things.
And it kind of informs some of like the turn downs and some of the, you know,
the hesitants to be aggressive with those anticipation throws.
if Sean Manning can get him to improve in that area, not even a huge improvement, just
a moderate improvement in those areas, I think that that is a real reason for, you know,
for optimism. So, you know, I thought it was interesting to hear why the footwork is important.
And I thought he did a good job explaining it. It's because of all the different moving parts
and how the scheme kind of dictates that you do need to be really precise with your footwork.
I'm thinking about, you know, what their reaction is likely to be from some,
of the true, you know, Jalen stands.
And, you know, the idea that like, oh,
they're going to ask him to improve his footwork, improve what?
Like, this is a Super Bowl winning quarterback.
And I understand that.
But it plays into the challenge that is in front of Jalen Hertz,
because it doesn't have to be improve.
It is, it is changing.
Like, they are changing in the offense what they are asking him to do.
And that takes humility.
from a player who is a Super Bowl MVP two years ago.
And, you know, is one of the highest paid players in the league
and has every right to be like, I have won my way.
It's going to look like Jalen wants it to look
and potentially bristle at some of the things
that are going to be much different for him.
And so, you know, when he gets,
when we talk to Jalen and he gets asked about footwork
and having to change his footwork,
is he going to say, well, you know,
I've always focused on footwork or is, or is he going to embrace it and say like, yeah, this is a little bit different.
I'm, I welcome the challenge.
I kind of think that I'm expecting a little bit more of the former just in the way that he usually talks,
which doesn't mean that he's not actually doing it behind the scenes, because my expectation is he is embracing it all behind the scenes.
But, you know, this is a, this is a delicate thing for them to undertake on the coaching side of things,
because, yeah, like, Jalen is the one who's the highest paid of them all and, and, you know, carries the big stick.
But they are, they are asking him to truly, like, change who he has been as a Super Bowl winning quarterback.
Yeah, yeah.
And that goes back to what I was saying about, like, you know, this is an offense that, like, the best examples of running this offense.
Well, it's Matthew Stafford.
And then it's Jared Goff and, like, Kirk Cousins.
And it's like, you know, Jalen, I would be.
justified in being like, I'm not those guys and I don't really want to be those guys.
I don't even like mayonnaise.
You're asking me to put raisins in my chicken salad and I'm not going to do it.
I actually, I don't want flour tortillas and breader cheese on my tacos.
I want something more authentic.
But no, to me, like, I think that is what's interesting about that was one of the things that struck me as we
watch or as I listened back to what Sean Mannion said it's like man like just once you would
like it's you like to hear a coordinator a coordinator really talk about like let's really leverage
what Jalen does best but that's not to say that Sean Mannion's not going to do that but I do I think
it's going to take growth from Jalen in certain areas big big tell will be the first time we're in
the locker room we see a DVD box set of friends in Jalen's locker whether or not he's embraced
the challenge ahead of him oh man
All right. Let's take a break on the PHA of My Egos podcast. More on Sean Manion on the other side. And then we'll get to Vic Fangio, who was probably newsier than Sean Mannion was. So lots to come. Stay with us.

Back on the P.H.L.E. Eagles podcast.
A very generous super chat from Robert Myers,
which we will get to in Bovertime.
And also, J.P.J. says with Sequin,
Jalen shouldn't need to run.
Maybe with Tank Bigsby as well.
All right, before we get back to Sean Manion, E.J.,
two pieces of news that we should discuss.
One, very good news for the Eagles.
And that is the New York Giants announcing an extension
with general manager Joe Shane.
And if you were worried that this was going to turn into a well-round organization,
you can exhale because it's not.
So that's good news for the Eagles.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah.
I was surprised when I saw that news, but I guess.
Give me a break.
They are back to continuity is good for continuity for continuity's sake is good
and not actually evaluating whether the continuity is good.
Yeah, like what move?
is Joe Shane hangues out I guess like drafting Jackson Dart like is that is that what
he's going to say like look what look what I've built here you know I don't know it's good
news for the Eagles uh the bad news the arrest of Nolan Smith EJ for reckless driving going
it was 130 137 in a 70 mile at hour zone last Friday in Georgia uh yeah the the the
photo of Nolan Smith uh circulated like late last night I can confirm that he was arrested
for this. It's not the first time he's been arrested for reckless driving in his life. It happened
first when he was at Georgia. Obviously, like, these Georgia guys have this very, like,
disappointing record of, you know, having driving violations in Georgia. Obviously, Jalen Carter,
you know, has had a serious accident that really affected his draft stock and affected the evaluation
process for him. And more importantly, just, you know, people lost their lives. So, yeah, it's, it's sad.
you know, disappointing on many levels.
I'm sure the Eagles aren't happy.
So, yeah.
Yeah, I just, it's not good.
I mean, you know, could have been worse.
I wonder, I wonder what,
I thought Jimmy Kemsky made this point that, you know,
there's not likely to be significant consequences of this.
Yeah.
But the Eagles do have to make a decision at some point,
most likely between Nolan Smith and Jalick's hunt long term.
They could sign them both.
it's not impossible, but this is something that they will probably factor into that decision.
Oh, absolutely.
I mean, I said it on Anthony's show this morning.
Like, this is about the worst way you could start this prove it year if you're Nolan Smith.
You know, there's not much you can do to help your contract prospects, you know, in the next two, the next year and change.
But doing something like this will certainly hurt them.
So again, I'm sure the Eagles aren't happy.
I don't think that there's going to be major legal ramifications, but still, like I said, a frustrating one.
And, you know, again, it's like, as someone who covered that Jalen Carter story up close, when the Eagles drafted him, it's like, you just, you wish that these guys would learn, like, this isn't worth it, you know, that this is highly dangerous, not just for them, but for everyone around them.
So, yeah, disappointing for sure.
All right, back to Sean Mannion.
And he was asked about the, how did you, how did you, how did you, how did you fare, how did you think that we as a beat corps fared with John Mannion today?
I thought we did like fine, satisfactory, you know.
Yeah, totally.
You know, we were really hard on ourselves.
What was at the year end press conference?
We felt like we had to do a better job.
Yeah.
But we did a better job at owner's meetings.
I thought we did pretty well there.
Yeah, mostly because I wasn't there for Jeffrey.
So I feel like that really raised the tide.
Wait, you're saying the Jeffrey press conference raised the tide?
Yeah, because I wasn't there.
Oh, okay.
I think we did fine.
I'm sure some people will be surprised that no one asked a question directly about A.J. Brown.
I think that that actually is like pretty much a commentary on like where they stand with this.
Well, I think honestly, I think he answered the question.
Let's get to it because he was asked about the receiving core and the makeup of that group.
And, you know, is it the greater than the sum of its parts?
This is what he said.
Yeah, it's a really exciting group.
You know, obviously, you know, kind of talked about Mackay.
Smith, Smitty's been awesome.
And, you know, it's a, it's a really fun group.
I really look at all of these, you know, all of our position groups.
You know, it's, it's, our offense is, is not about any one piece.
It's how we all fit together.
And, you know, the wide receiver group specifically has been a lot of fun.
I think we have a lot of guys with complimentary skill sets.
They're tough.
They compete every day of practice.
They really attack the fundamentals, catching the football, yards after catch, all those things.
So really excited about that group and how they fit with one another
and then how they fit with the larger picture of the offense.
There you go.
He was asked about Mikhail Leibman.
He mentions Devante.
Now, in fairness, A.J. Brown hasn't been there.
So it's not like when he's thinking about who's been in the receiving room,
AJ's not there.
But yeah, I think we can all be grown-ups here and acknowledge that he's probably not going to be there.
Yeah, I think it was mostly like an acknowledgement of that and also like the human side of like, I don't know, like what's Sean Mannion say?
Like, you know, sure.
But I did sort of wonder a little bit on my drive home.
I'm like, are we getting soft?
Like, you know what I mean?
Like, yeah, like we realize why we don't ask the question like the nuance there.
But at the same time, it's like, I don't know.
I think you can make an argument that he should have been asked, you know, do you expect AJ Brown to be here or not?
just to get it on the record.
That's fair.
I think it would have been a fair question.
We didn't ask him about tight ends,
which is something we could have done,
but there was a lot to get to.
We haven't talked to him since he got hired.
It's been months.
Yeah, I think it would have been a fair question,
but probably not the best use of the time,
which makes me feel okay about it.
Yeah.
Super chat from Sam G.
who says Nolan Smith is a good friend of the podcast.
We shouldn't cover news
that may be negative or embarrassing.
about him. Isn't that the rules now? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Because that's exactly what happened.
Time for you to change your diaper. Go ahead. All right. Next on, on Sean Mayn. The other clip we have
here, E.J. is on the blend between new and old. And in that sense, we're talking about like
the verbiage and how much of this offense is going to be the Siriani offense and, you know,
what we expect from the Shanahan tree type stuff.
Here is, here is Sean Mania.
Really, all the people that we have on staff,
I really feel great about our group collectively
because it's people who know how to teach are detailed.
They work hard, you know,
and they're great high character people.
That's exactly what you want to work with on a daily basis.
Coup, certainly the embodiment of that.
Yeah, that's a great question.
Kind of like I spoke to before.
It's a blend.
It's a blend.
And obviously there's things schematically that we're bringing.
There's things that the Eagles' offense has really thrived with doing in the years past.
So, you know, in terms of the verbiage, the terminology, it's a process of seeing, hey, what makes sense to keep, what are things that, you know, some of the new changes coming in need to change.
So that's something we've looked at really from day one, you know, understanding kind of the background of this game here,
whether some of the things we want to add and one of the things we want to tweak and how do we build kind of the language of our offense.
But that's been a great process.
You know, there's elements that are new and there's elements, you know, that will remain in terms of terminology.
But that process has been a lot of fun because ultimately, like I said before, it's all about bringing something to the table.
And then how can we continue to make it better?
How do we continue to build it, streamline things?
And that's really the whole process of the language of the offense, you know, is really a good example of kind of where that takes place.
Now, here's my biggest takeaway from that answer, E.J.
Yeah.
Sean Manion was asked by my count 21 questions during his introductory press conference.
And twice, only twice, did he say, that's a great question.
Yeah.
Great question.
That was one of them.
The other was yours.
Oh.
So I think we got to keep track of this throughout the entire season.
I want to know who Sean Mannion is saying is asking great questions.
Right now, the top of the leader.
board tied for first e j smith and tim mcmannis oh i mean that's great company to be in you know
maybe great question maybe i'm off to a good start with sean manion maybe he's a diehard at all p hly
dot com read the story i wrote about him after the super bowl yeah maybe we're both coaches kids i actually
have a funny story about this i don't see any i don't see him saying good question at any point either
so he's he's a it's either great or nothing yeah i would like to see a scale but
something something to pay attention to
okay quick funny story
and then I do want to talk about the answer here
so he mentioned later in the press conference
this is about being a coach's kid
he mentioned later in the press conference like that his
his dad like he wrote
he was at one of his dad's games and he's like seven years old
and he had notes on a legal pad from the game
and like drew up plays for his dad after the game
and that his dad gave him that
piece of paper back when he got hired
by the Packers and he got it framed for
Sean Manning. Look how far you've come. Great gift. Yeah, it's a beautiful story. I have the exact
inverse of that story. So when I was like 10 or 11 years old, I might have been a little
younger. I gave my dad plays for Christmas. Like I wrote up, I drew up plays. He was a high school
football coach. He drew, I drew up the plays. I worked hard on him. I gave it to him for Christmas.
And, you know, I'm sure he like appreciated this, but I mean, I never got those things back framed.
I'm sure he threw them things in the trash. Probably days after I gave me. He used those plays,
though? Oh, absolutely not.
Oh, come on. So I
called him on my way home from the press conference
and I was like, Sean Mangon's dad gave him those
plays back framed. Like, you don't even know where mine
are. That's funny.
What did he say? What's that?
What did your dad say? I think he said, I probably
threw him in the trash. He's like, yeah, I look at those
plays like, oh yeah, these are great, son.
And just like, get this guy out of here.
That's very funny.
Big day for the Smiths yesterday. Can we talk about this?
Absolutely. So my grandmom, who passed away two years ago, had a bridge dedicated in her honor. It's named after her now. The E. Pearl Smith Memorial Bridge. And the weirdest thing is that, yeah, it's a good name, right?
Great name. Yeah. She was a really special lady. She had a real legacy. It's funny. Like, I didn't know her as like the super, like the superwoman that she was, you know, someone who opened doors for herself and left those doors open for people who look like her and people who.
who came from different backgrounds like she did.
I just kind of knew her as grandma,
you know, the lady who was bringing collard greens to Sunday dinner,
who was just like, you know,
exactly the matriarch of a family that she would want.
And she raised up a generation of matriarchs behind her.
So yeah, it was cool.
It was cool to be around my family, you know,
celebrating my grandma.
And the weirdest thing is that the bridge is on Sandra Lane,
which is my mom's name.
And she also passed two years ago.
Wow.
So it's just funny how the universe works sometimes.
But yeah, really special.
really special. Now, will you go out of your way to drive over the bridge? Oh, thank you, Lindsay. Thank you
guys. I didn't know you were going to flash up the phone. I didn't know that Lindsay was going to do that either.
Look at that. Yeah. No, it's, it's a, it was really, really cool. Cool to see. It's like,
we knew it was happening, but seeing the actual sign, you know, like really, really hit me. So,
um, I'm sure I'll go out of my way to drive over the bridge. I am excited eventually one day
in the distant future to take my kids to that bridge and tell him about my grandma. So,
I like that in true Smith family style, no period on that E.
See, that's where I get it from.
You know, she was ahead of her time.
Yeah, I can't tell you what the E stands for.
That was like her thing.
It's like nobody's allowed to know.
Really?
Yeah, secret.
But you know.
Yeah, I know.
Okay.
You should know.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay.
That's great.
Yeah, thank you.
Wonderful.
All right, let's take a break.
We'll come back.
Anything else on Manion before we get to Vic on the other side.
Um, I just, on the answer we heard, uh, he mentioned blend several times, you know, a blend of what they did in the past and what they, you know, what Sean Mannion believes in philosophically. It reminded me of Kellan Moore using it in 2024. Uh, he used the word collaborative a handful of times. I don't think that that should be read as like they're going to run the same offense. Uh, you know, I think that they will make significant changes similar to like how they did in 2024. Obviously, um, you know, Kellan Moore brought a lot of new things. Um, you know,
it's going to be new verbiage.
And I think it's honestly a good thing
that they're not going to throw everything out
with Sean Mannion coming in.
I still expect it to be an overhaul
and he mentioned that they're going to build it from the ground up.
But I did want to just hit on the fact that he mentioned,
you know, it's going to be a blend of several things.
All right.
Good stuff.
Let's take a break.
We'll come back and get to Vic Fangio,
Mr. Truth Teller.
What do they have to say about his dalliance with retirement
and some of the positions of competition
and during the summer?
Hi, it's me, E.J. Smith. How you doing? I was sending my buddy Ed some meat picks the other day,
and we were just reminiscing about the time that we became friends because he was working at Ace,
and we bonded. He was so helpful to me, and then we realized we were both barbecue freaks.
So we've maintained a friendship, and here's the deal. That's the kind of person that you can expect to be working at Ace,
someone who can turn into a friend

Back on the PHLYOS podcast, Bo and EJ,
let's get to Mr. Fangio, EJ.
He was the lead off editor today.
He's down on the Phillies,
thinks they shouldn't have fired.
Rob Thompson, that was a Bush League move.
Of course, they're playing better.
The schedule got easier.
They traded out Taiwan Walker for Zach Wheeler.
A couple guys who,
were hitting 170 or now hitting 220,
it's got nothing to do with the manager.
I appreciate that.
It's a fair take.
That is the take of a guy who watches every game.
Like, he's not,
he's a coach my trade.
Yeah, he's so casual.
He knows,
he knows what's up.
Anyway,
I think we should start with the big question from Vic,
which is how close was he to retiring
and moving out of the building?
He addressed that right away.
Here is what he said.
Vic's not going anywhere.
I've had those thoughts,
you know, the last few years,
every year at the end of the year,
I just think about it, you know,
and I never really got serious
to where I would have done it.
And, you know, it's no different
than I did after 24 season,
after 23 season.
I mean, I told the players the other day
that, you know,
we had our annual physical,
we get physicals as coaches
and the docs,
told me I was reverse aging with my lab work and everything that came up.
So I told them, you guys are stuck with me for a while, a long while.
When you have those thoughts, what does it that keep you coming?
I still like doing it.
You know, I like the group of guys we have.
I like working with them.
I still like the challenge of the job.
Work for a good organization.
Really, it's just something that,
I think you'll always think about at the end of the year.
But in the end, I didn't come close to doing it.
And I really don't foresee myself doing it.
I'm good for two years, at least.
Now, how specific do you think the good for two years was?
How intentional do you think that was?
I think that that was intentional.
I don't know if I'm like totally buying it.
I think Vic probably doesn't want to be fielding questions about,
is this the last ride, Vic?
Is this your last ride?
Yeah, I think there's two things.
here. I think I think I'm good for two years is okay, I'm addressing this now. Now you can't ask me
about it because I said I'm going to be here for two years. Yeah. I also think it could be,
listen, that's where my contract is through. You want me back after that? I'm not coaching for free.
I'm about to say maybe there was, maybe there's a hefty sum on that, that final year of a three year or a two year extension that he signed this offseason. Maybe, maybe. I think that's a fun.
Was there a question you think that because you get more questions in with Vic because the answer is quickly.
Yeah, he's a whole machine.
Was there a question that you thought that we left on the floor that we should have tossed out?
No, I really don't.
I honestly think it actually with Vic, like sometimes you're grasping at straws by the end of the press conference.
We didn't ask him a specific thing about like, do you think that Christian Parker is going to be a good defensive coordinator?
Yeah, we could have done our DLS friends.
we could have done that one.
Yeah.
But other than that,
I feel like it was mostly addressed.
Could ask them if you see,
how many times you've seen back?
I mean,
there was a JT. Great question in there.
So yeah.
Not to,
not to,
you know,
pretty early on too.
Yeah.
Okay.
It shows you that we had,
we had time with Vic.
I thought the most interesting thing he said,
well,
not maybe the most interesting,
but the most like noteworthy
that I didn't know going into it,
is that the Eagles
seriously considered trading
for Rick Willem last season.
You know,
Vic Fangio,
said, like, he had done the tape study on Rick Wollin midway through the year because they thought
that Seattle might, might trade him. And yeah, Vic said how excited he was for him to be a part
of the team. I had a really good, we have the clip, actually. So he had a really good answer about, like,
how Rick Wollins' length is a plus for him. It's not a negative. So, you know, let me see if I can
queue one of these up, Bo. So maybe we will hear from Vic Fangio on Rick Wollin right now.
Vic, Enrique.
Good pass rusher.
He's been productive in the rush.
He's had years where he's had good numbers, sack-wise.
But like we always discuss, you know, pressure on the quarterback is also important.
And he's been able to do that throughout his career.
I think he's strong on the edge versus the run game.
You know, so we're excited to have him.
But I think there's a lot of good there.
Yeah, I'm excited to have him.
You know, we looked at him during the middle of the season last year a little bit
because they may have been interested in trading them.
And we didn't decide to do it.
And I didn't get too involved in the evaluation.
But then when it came free agency time this year,
and I actually sat down and watched them thoroughly,
you know, I was excited for him.
And kind of surprised that.
that he was one of those guys that didn't get a lot of action
for a long-term deal.
And so I was thrilled to get him.
I think he's gonna play good for us.
What about this game?
What about this game?
Well, he's a rare guy in that you don't see many corners
in the league that are six four.
You don't see many that are six two or even six one.
And there's a reason for that.
You know, it's hard to find guys at those heights.
that can move and mirror receivers that are hard to cover.
He can do that for a guy his height.
He can get in and out of breaks.
He obviously has good downfield speed.
And his length is more of a asset than a detriment in his case.
there you go that's a good answer on rick yeah it was um by the way just let me tee it up man
you got to let me have some shine every once in a while too
not on my watch you're like actually no i don't have to let you have that you i should know
what show i'm on here um i thought that was interesting but especially because he's not in the
business of gassing up a guy if he doesn't want to
to I mean contrast that to his very first answer about Bryce off right a similar situation where
they sign a guy we don't know if if it is is in on it sounds like he was pretty in on on
requil it yeah definitely sounds like he's excited about him it's a good point like you there are
a few tall corners across the league but yeah I think like vicks Vic calling it like it's it's a
strength not a detriment I hadn't heard somebody like talk about it that specifically before
and I thought that was good insight I thought there were two
other pieces of actual newsworthy information that Vic gave us. One was on Jahad Campbell.
And it's funny because Vic is the one who initially let slip that Jihad was dealing with a
shoulder injury that was going to affect his offseason. And Vic said that there's a chance
that he will be able to do some stuff this spring, but he will be ready for training camp.
Yeah, which is pretty definitive about that. So that is very good news. And then the other thing is
on the safety position, which we all know is the one spot that, uh, is, uh,
is not necessarily accounted for with a starter penned in.
Cooper is going to be involved to some degree.
Right now there's Marcus Epps and Michael Carter.
But Vic was asked about that position.
And here, E.J. is what he said.
Oh, we're going to do it.
You know, I think Marcus is some that will have put up good claim to it.
In base, it will be Cooper.
you know, when we go to nickel and Coop comes up and plays nickel, you know, it'll be EPS.
We're taking a good look at Michael Carter back there.
Who else am I forgetting?
Yeah, Andre Sam, and then we signed an undraft of free agent, Gush.
J.T. Gray has been mainly a special teams player, but, you know, he'll get a look.
So we'll look at all those guys.
competition.
With all the movement pieces at safety, what's that?
With all the movement pieces at the other safety spot, how important is his development?
It's been good.
You know, as you guys know, last year, his season, first off, his training camp was interrupted
by a couple injuries that kept them out for two different lumps of time.
Started off the season up and down, had some shaky plays.
But I felt like the last five or six gains prior to him getting hurt, he was coming on.
And hopefully he'll be able to pick up from there.
You know, he's had a rehab dominated off season.
But he's been out there with us these last couple weeks.
You know, he's not 100% yet, but he will be soon.
So how worried should we be that Vic Fangio doesn't even mention Cole was necessary?
You know, he really did not seem to be very well-versed on the bottom of the safety depth chart in general.
Well, and specifically to that point, how I know that the sickos out there, all of your eyebrows raised at the same time when you heard this because, boy, is this some really interesting tea leaf reading.
For him to mention, gush, very interesting on two levels.
one, he's already got a nickname.
Yeah.
That's got to be huge for a Copenica chicken.
Number two,
Copeniga chicken is listed on the Eagles official roster as a corner,
not as a safety,
despite the fact that he played safety in college.
So we thought maybe they're moving him to the nickel.
He's got the skill set for it.
He's short, but he's this amazing athlete,
but no, gushy, gushy, gushy,
is in the mix.
No, we can't call him that.
We cannot call him, Matt.
No, absolutely not.
I put my phone down.
I'm taking the words out of Vic's mouth.
You can call Scott Leffler's coat, but you can't call that kid.
I'm not even saying it.
You can't call him that.
Absolutely not.
Got that good gush.
No.
No, I hate it.
I hate that.
If he listens to the show, he's like, I'm new to Philadelphia.
this is a great eagles podcasting that's what his defense is going to call them
can't be doing that to him that's what he said good i feel like i feel like that might
have been the most interesting part of the press conference you training camp crush gosh he's i got the
inside track no that's not how the training camp crush works he's going to be too too mainstream for you uh
i i enjoyed a couple other things from vick you want me to squeeze him in well we got another break in
quickly.
Yeah, but you want me to either quick.
He said he, I think in the clip, he said he was reverse aging.
Yes.
Now, what does that actually mean?
We need someone in the chat to tune to, what he's saying is that is like his,
is, you know, he had his, he had his checkup and his results are getting better.
Like, yeah, but like, does that mean like his like heart numbers are stronger than they
were two years ago?
Well, I want to violate HIPAA.
Oh, well, it's not HIPAA.
We aren't his doctor.
So someone in the chat.
Tell us what reverse aging actually means.
I also really enjoyed him roasting Joe Casper's title change.
That was great.
Joe Casper.
That was great.
The defensive backs coach, I believe, and he's the defensive past game coordinator, more importantly.
And then now they have a secondary coach as well.
And yeah, Vic Fangio goes, you know, all these guys, they have these new titles.
His defensive past game coordinator.
All these titles you see around the league, past game.
He said, head coach, assistant head coach.
He goes, you know what those titles are working?
this water bottle when I get done drinking all the water.
I thought he was going to go, you know what those titles mean?
It just means they got to raise.
Right.
That's what I thought.
Because when he said it works, I was like, yeah, it's just money.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah, he did not take the bait to gas up Joe Casper.
That was very funny.
No, not at all.
Not at all.
Yeah, that was good stuff.
Yeah.
Good to have, good to have Vic back.
Yeah.
I'd love a Vick and Joe Press conference.
He is truly a quote machine.
And also, I think Mike Pellegrina was also involved in that question.
It's possible Vic hasn't even met him yet.
He's like, who?
Who are you talking about?
He also said he plays golf with Jeff Stoutland still and made sure to note that I think you asked him, right?
Who wins?
Yes.
And Vic Fangio said that he wins, even though he's older than Jeff Stoutland.
He still wins a call.
All right.
Time for our last break here.
We will have any Vic leftovers and also a couple nuggets from
Michael Clay, plus E.J. has a story about doing something embarrassing in front of somebody.
Yeah, I do.

Back on the PHOY Eagles podcast, Bo and EJ. Two other things I thought were funny from Vic
and his press conference today. One was he was asked about having worked with Chris Cooper
and did he help, you know, pull some strings to get Chris Cooper involved?
And he was like, they didn't even talk to me.
Like, Sean basically said he wanted the guy.
And then I think they were like down to two or three.
And then they realized, oh, I guess Vic worked with them too.
And then they finally gave me a call.
I really enjoyed that.
I literally wrote my notebook like Vic on Cooper equals Sean wanted him in LOL.
It was, I mean, listen, Vic no sells a lot of things.
It's not like a red flag, but it was fun.
money.
He's like,
Sean wanted to hire him.
I don't know.
I don't even think
they knew what I worked
with the guy.
But he's fine.
He's like,
Cooper,
Dejeet?
And then the other thing
is he was asked about
UR,
which had one good piece of information
and also another funny aside.
And he's talking about
how when he was with the Niners,
says I had a similar experience
when I was with the Niners.
We had a guy by the name of Lawrence Akoye,
who was an Olympic discus throw for England,
looked a lot,
like UR looks now, and we kept him for a couple years.
Other teams tried.
It never worked for him.
This is very funny.
It's a very big fan Gio answer about this.
But then he goes on and says,
but patience will need to be a virtue both on his part and ours,
which that's obvious, but it's a good reminder that, you know,
it's part of the reason that I think he's a lock to make the 53-man roster.
Like, they're not going to make a judgment on O'War Bernard based on one summer.
He's going to be here, and they're going to need to be patient.
Yep, I agree. And I don't know. I think like, again, I was, it's probably a good thing for McFandre to bring up Lawrence Acoye is like, listen, like these things sometimes don't work out. But it was like a very Vic Fangio answer about something that most people find very fun and exciting. Like yeah, yeah, probably won't work out.
All right. Anything else from you on Mr. Gush?
Nothing from Vic. Yeah, nothing left from Vic.
All right. What did you take away from Michael Clay?
The biggest one I took away, I don't, I want to couch this a little bit.
I don't think he like said this in a way that's like inflammatory.
But I did think it was interesting.
He was talking about Jake Elliott.
The Eagles still have a lot of confidence in Jake Elliott.
You know, basically you said like you could go game by game situation by situation,
but nobody really wants to hear any of that.
Everybody wants to know, what have you done for me last?
But for Jake, 10 years in the NFL, 10 years to do it in Philadelphia,
a big kicks, hard to go against the confidence for that. He went on to then say, for him,
it's just getting back to his basics, getting back to his routine, and falling in love with
the game again. So was eyebrow raising, the falling in love with the game again element of that
answer. But again, I don't think that was like a pointed like he needs to fall in love with
the work or something like that. I think it was probably just acknowledging like he's kind of
he has to restart for going in the next season.
Yeah, I think that's a fair read.
It was an interesting, interesting thing for him to say.
Now, obviously, we know that he interviewed elsewhere during this off season.
His contract was up, and he said he never really got close to leaving.
Yeah.
I thought, I liked his answer to Zach's question at the very end about, you know,
this is a guy who has defensive experience.
We'll talk about one of the plays he made in a minute.
but, you know, is there upward mobility as a special teams coordinator?
And I thought this was a very refreshing perspective from Michael Clay.
He said, people ask me that question all the time.
But in passing, like, hey, do you always want to be a special teams coordinator?
Do you want to go for more than that?
And it's like the beauty of special teams coaches, you're the closest thing to being a head coach
because you get to talk to everybody.
Vic probably doesn't get to talk to the offense.
Sean probably won't be able to talk to the defense.
In special teams, you get to talk to everybody.
I tell people this, if I could.
do this for another quarter century, then hit the deucees like Brad Silly did in Houston,
then I'll be very happy with my life and how it turned out, which, amen, good for that.
I'd say good for him.
You know, like in a career that or in a field that is so filled with like wanton ambition
against all, anything else, like for him to basically have a very clear pathway, which is like,
I could do this job and be happy with this job, like contentment in the.
role he has while also acknowledging like you know if I do this job really well maybe I will be a head
coach one day yeah you're right good for him that is rare that's great rare in this in this yes
he's probably the only person in the whole building who feels that way the only guy who's like yeah
my current job is great like if I did this for 25 years I'd be yeah yeah but probably the only one
so Nick Siriani maybe no I don't think so okay that's fair
And then the other fun thing was
he was asked about
having played against Sean Mannion when they were in college
and we got to get a clip of this
because I believe the first time
they played against each other according to Michael Clay's memory
the third play of the game,
Michael Clay linebacker
thinks like his springs a little sugar on the A gap
and drops back and Sean Mannion
throws the ball right to him pick between the numbers
and then he was very funny about like
did you get any yards after catch? He's like oh God no
When he said that, I flashed, looked at the Eagles ball security stuff up in the, in the auditorium.
It does say big men go down.
But does he count as a big man in that situation?
No, I think linebackers shouldn't count.
Yeah, he's an athlete.
You mentioned Zach Berman.
Vic did another instance of Vic really not liking the Zach Berman question, by the way.
You really, I don't know what it is.
what do they say
you know if you want to find out
what he said to Zach Berman
you're going to have to find out in
EJ time
goshy time
no it's me
what you don't know is I've got
Lindsay over here like encouraging me
to beat you to all the cues
oh man
this is what happens when I'm away from the show
for too long I get too goofy
I feel like we got a lot of potential
um
no music
parodies with with Mr. Gushikin
what are you going to do when you meet him
you're going to meet him in the locker room and he's going to be like you're
the guy that's been making fun of my last name
I'm not
Vic Fangio has a nickname for him
gush it's different
is it yes it is
notably different.
All right.
What's your other thing?
Oh, it was just that.
It was, oh, I mean, I got the embarrassing thing,
but I was laughing about how much Vic, just like,
what do you think it is?
Why do you think Vic is so upset with Zach's questions?
I think he's upset.
I think he's just upset.
Yeah, you're right.
He's not upset.
He's, but he is like, always like,
oh, man, you're always the one asking these questions.
Well, I don't think, I don't think that Vic Vanjo is someone who likes introspection.
That's true.
Yeah.
I think, I do think that there's like a, you're right, he's not like angry.
He's like, there's like clear respect for Zach.
Almost like, you know, I can, I can.
The guy who is friends with the other guy who I won't mention.
Okay.
Yeah, I don't know.
I thought it funny.
Super chat from CDP who says, who is getting paid more,
Siriani or Shane?
Siriani.
I would think so.
Yeah.
Yeah.
uh now listen i would say i would say the eagles yeah are probably if not the only one of very few
teams where the general manager is getting paid more than the head coach i think that is very
rare i think that is the case with the eagles um but i still think that nick syriani is getting
paid more than joshane i think that's yeah it's a it's probably
reflective of just the organizations also, but yeah.
And then a good follow-up question for My POV life in a super chat.
What's your best estimate of CDP's job and net worth?
CDP's hilarious, so I imagine that he's very successful in his field and has a great net worth.
What do you think his job is?
What do I think his job is.
I mean, he's on most shows, so he's got to have flexible hours.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, he could be like a night shift worker, like a night shift nurse.
Interesting.
I don't think he's a nurse, though.
That would not have been my, that would not have been my guess.
A night shift nurse.
I'm going to guess.
Night shift, great song.
Maybe he's in the legal field.
Maybe he's like a lawyer or something.
Oh, that's a good one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Legal's good.
What's another?
what's another job where you make a lot of money but you don't do a lot?
I wish I knew.
Actually, no, I don't.
I think he's got a better, he might have a better,
strikes me as a better moral compass than like private equity.
Yeah, his sense of humor doesn't scream private equity.
My POV life, I know men can be nurses.
I just don't think that he's a nurse.
That's all.
Yeah, I know plenty of male nurses.
I know plenty of nurses in general.
Shout out to all the nurses out there.
I think lawyer is my guess.
Actually, I think it's Jeffrey.
What if he...
I don't think it's Jeffrey.
I think he's NFL owner, Jeffrey Larry.
What if he's, maybe he's in, like, banking of some sort,
not like private equity, but, like, you know,
like I have a friend who works in, like,
liquidity, like, you know, kind of like making sure that a big bank
isn't ever basically doing something irresponsible.
Maybe he does something like that sounds like more work.
Yeah, but you can do it from home.
You could listen to a podcast.
IT.
Anyway, go ahead.
Rivera asks, is the NFL free Uber for players still live?
I think that is a team by team thing,
not an NFL thing, but I think that it is.
It came up in the PA report card that some teams offer more for Uber's than others.
think if I recall, I don't think the Eagles have like an unlimited budget for Uber's in any
circumstance.
Yeah.
Are you just?
No, I'm just saying.
All right.
Super chat.
This very generous one from Bobby Myers says chicanery.
The Bob Myers.
Cushy time.
The great man, Bob Myers.
Honestly, it could be.
Thank you.
Appreciate it.
I think that Bob Myers looks like.
A cross between Beavis and Butthead.
No.
I mean, the hair, yeah, but like, I don't know.
He doesn't look at your stretching character.
Oh, man.
It's a great man.
Listen.
This guy sort of by accident lucked into drafting Steph Curry.
Let's allow him to be in charge of everything else.
I mean, I see where we're going with this, but I don't know.
if it's fair to say the guy looks like a cartoon character.
I'll see them, but I see where you're going.
Bobby Myers, the great man, says,
Bo, you were right.
Crisley Adams did have a beer.
E.J., in all your talk about W.P. Tacos,
have you ever made a burrito with Tabasco?
Do you think UDFA is Victor Vito and Freddie Vasco?
Make the 53?
My daughter thinks so.
Thank you for being so generous, Bobby Myers.
Never made a burrito with Tabasco.
You know what I did do that?
I was a kid.
Victor, and Freddie Basko ate a burrito with Tabasco.
They put it on their rice.
They put it on their beans, on their root of bacon,
and on their collared greens.
Hey, Victor, hey, Freddy, let's eat some spaghetti.
Hey, Victor, I'm ready to eat some spaghetti.
with Freddy with Freddy.
I can keep going.
I think this is what he wanted.
So honestly, yeah, sure, go ahead.
I think this is what he wanted.
I didn't make an ad barrito with Tabasco for the record.
But we got word tonight that Lindsay's having a WPBB.
I don't know why that sounds so weird to me.
And it did.
I didn't like that.
That's true.
That's what she called it.
A WPBBBB.
I don't like that.
I don't know why.
A white, wait, I can't say it.
You should probably say what it is.
You can say what?
Breedable.
Yeah.
What's in the breedable?
It was like rice, beans, cheese and that's probably it?
It always comes back to mayonnaise.
If we see if we see Jalen walking in with that WPBB, you are going to know that this
offense is going to be on time.
Oh, my God.
Punctual.
It's going to be five minutes or five minutes early as late.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
Jill and you, they've got them, you know, they got those videos of them walking into the office on the first day of training camp and he's, he's humming Mamma Mia to himself.
And you're like, oh, bet the, bet the over on under center percentage.
I appreciate you saying that about Mamma Mia.
I won't get too much into it, but let's just say,
that that's very validating for me.
Oh, man.
Well, since we're off the rails, let me tell you my,
oh, yes, my embarrassing story.
So right before the show, I like to wear my PHOI hat on the show,
you know, company man, but I also like to wear it when I do, you know,
like social media stuff.
So it comes with me everywhere.
It's a great hat, by the way.
You should check out all of our merch.
It's, it is really high quality stuff.
as a testament to wearing the hat.
So anyway, I had it in my truck and I had to go out and get it like five minutes before the show.
So I'm hustling out there.
And I get out there and my car won't unlock and I see my neighbor is literally just like sitting in the backyard just like watching me, which is like it's fine.
You know, not a not a big deal.
We live in close quarters.
And like I was like trying to unlock my truck.
It won't unlock like the remote's dead.
And I'm just sitting here like desperately trying to unlock it.
finally unlock it grab the hat i look for my light can't find my light and i'm just like in a huff
like i'm walking back i'm running up and like as i go up the stairs i like toss up my keys in my
hand to like catch them again because you know i'm just a natural born athlete except for this time
i drop them and i know she's just sitting there watching me i know you knew she was watching
were you did you throw them in the first place to show off no i wasn't showing off i knew i was being
I knew I was being embarrassing from the beginning.
Yes, I am a key tosser.
My POV life.
I'm, you know, just try.
I get whatever, jittery.
So I do that.
I drop them.
I go, I pick them up and I just can't help myself.
I look to see if she's watching.
Of course she's watching.
Like, what else would she be watching?
She's just sitting there watching me, drop my keys.
And reflexively, I don't know why.
Then you slip on a banana peel, like.
But reflexively, I don't know what.
I just waved.
It's like the worst thing you can possibly.
It's like, all right, see you.
And I was like, it's one of those things you do it.
And then like two seconds later, you're inside and the privacy of your home and you're like,
why did I do that?
That's very funny.
Anyway, that was my chaotic start to five minutes before the show.
I like that.
Do we need to give you, um,
a minute to puff out your chest on the Europa League.
I won't overdo this because I know this is not a Nassan Villa podcast,
but it was just really, really special to watch them win the Europa League.
It was funny because I missed the first half hour of the game because I was for great reason.
I was at my grandmonds thing.
But I'm watching in the car.
I watch him go tune all up on the way home.
And I will be honest with you, like, and I think like this shows how
much I love this team and like how I am still a fan. You know, I kind of have I think I have like
poured my Eagles fandom into Ashtonville in a weird way. Julia and I were both in tears when they
won. Like I was surprised that Julia was in tears, but she was just like a really, even if you
separate like the fandom. But it wasn't she cried before me. So it wasn't like she was crying
because I was happy. She was crying because like they have a really beautiful story. Like a lot of
those guys are like underdogs.
They've been counted out in their careers
and in their lives. You know, the guy who's really
the man of the match, Emmy Buendia,
um, like,
Vila,
we're trying to get rid of him and nobody wanted him.
Like,
that's the only reason he's still with the team.
And here he is like being the catalyst for,
you know,
them winning a trophy for the first time in decades.
So it's really cool.
Um,
and Prince William.
You're getting choked.
Choked up again.
I'm not getting choked up.
I promise.
Uh,
Prince William,
uh,
like,
was on a podcast I listened to,
uh,
like an Assonville podcast.
Shout out to the Claret and Blue podcast.
And that was cool too.
I was thinking like that'd be like if I mean,
I don't want to use a political figure,
but you know,
like if like somebody very prominent in our political system
or like even just prominent in America
was like,
yeah,
I like love the Eagle Shell.
Maybe somebody who's no longer in politics.
What?
What do you have a mind?
I won't say why I have in mind, but I had somebody in mind.
Okay.
Princess die.
No longer in politics.
What?
Princess die?
Yeah, yeah.
Let's go with that.
That would be a good get.
What?
Yeah.
Imagine if she was like, love the Eagles podcast.
Oh, yeah.
All the gushy talk.
It's keeps me coming back.
Here are my, here are my Mount Rushmore,
Lori Berkner songs.
It's tough.
There's a clear top two in my estimation, which is Victor Vito and Chitmunk at the gas pump.
Just absolute bangers.
Drop what you're doing for those two.
I'm probably going.
We've been on it.
We've been on a bit of a walking with the penguins kick lately.
It's a fun one to do.
What do you mean it's a fun one to do?
Oh, there's a little dance.
There's a little dance to it.
it's a good one, but then like the classics,
we are the dinosaurs, goldfish,
waiting for the elevator, and bumblebee,
even rocket ship run.
It's tough, it's tough to narrow it down to four.
I would probably go,
I would probably leave the penguins on the cutting room floor
a little bit reasoncy bias.
I don't want to succumb to that.
So I'm going to go waiting for the elevator
and we are the dinosaurs.
That's going to be.
be my, it's going to be my Mount Rushmore.
Lindsay wants to know what about the airplane song?
Good one.
But outside, probably wouldn't even make the second Rushmore as far as I'm concerned.
Oh, dang.
Okay.
Which one as a childless man should I be checking out on this list?
Chipmink of the gas pump is for everybody.
Okay.
It's for everybody.
I like that.
Yeah, that's a great.
That's just a great song.
Okay.
I'll check it out.
Boots. Boots is good.
But there you go.
All right.
I guess that's all we got.
Well, Lindsay says the goldfish song.
It's a classic.
Yeah.
I think you can go.
I think goldfish are weirded dinosaurs.
One of those two deserves a spot as like the most Lori Berkner song.
Probably.
Probably right.
I'm going to check out the chipmunk song.
I'm going to do it.
Maybe, maybe my dogs will like it.
You never know.
All right.
That'll do it for the PHAI Eagles podcast.
Thank you, everybody.
For joining us on a primetime episode.
We'll be back tomorrow, 2 o'clock, to close out the week for E.J.
And Lindsay, I'm Bo.
Let us know your favorite Lori Berkner song below.
And let us know, you know, your favorite part of the press conferences today.
We'll talk to tomorrow at 2 o'clock.
And as always, we love you.
All city like the mayor.
