00:00Coming at you live from the teammates mentoring studio. It's time to go one-on-one with D.P.A 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation. Here is your host, Derek Pearson.Barbecue analysts. Our two will start with the text line and we'll get to.And Eric, we're not reading you just so you understand.
00:29I put you in time out.He asked the question. He actually makes a statement.carrying Husker Wrestling would be epicbecause it's not carry.Full disclosure of offered to do it for freeand to have Ridge Lovett andCaleb Smith call Husker Wrestling.
00:53We'll do it on tape delay.I mean, they already videotapedthat cost is already there because it shows up on the big screen. And again, as I said, if the calljust you're just simply reporting what you see, well, we would run it after the fact, or even the next day,or just allowed it to run the next week. But that's just me.
01:16That's just me.Just me.Call the athletic department.I'm just telling you, we offered.I mean, I thought the idea, and imagine with Jordan Burrow being around enough to add insight to it.And Liam Cronin would also be in the space.Brock Hardy being around all the folks who are around the program, being able to just walk us through it.And, I mean, call it.
01:44Why would you not want to highlight that program? But that's just me.And again, I speak the truth. So folks can be mad at me if you talk about speaking the truth, we want. But the truth is I offer to do it for free out of my own pocket. And they've got deals. They've got contracts in play, you know, with a big 10, big 10 plus, etc.which is cool. But that's not about Lincoln. Now is it? That's not about the local fans. Now is it?
02:15Bill and Bennett says this. It sounds like you and L just refuses to evolve with today's modern mediathat has their finger in what's 4-201. It's kind of sad to me that they are missing out.On the growing network, that is the ticket. Amen. Amen. Again, I can't make folks except that I'm an ally.I mean, I'm here really trying to highlight all Husker programs. As a matter of fact, we had this conversation with SEC yesterdaythat we'd be willing to help them.I mean, if you've got sports and programs and projects that you want talked about,we've got airways.
02:56We've got time.Same for Wesleyan. And, you know, again, I don't know what the flagship is for SEC sportsor Wesleyan athletics.I don't know.I've offered the goods for them to do that. And there are professional broadcasters in this building,as I said, who are trained and capable of calling any sport.
03:23Again, I was not a volleyball aficionado until I had to beand ended up calling the first champion, professional sports championship for women's volleyball. And I've called Major League Baseball.I've called Minor League Baseball,I've called Minor League Football,Arena League football, NFL preseason, NBA.I was the voice of the CBA and the ABA.
03:50I think I could call basketball.I think I could, Bach, I think I could manage my way through carrying a basketball,calling a basketball game.But that's fine.They like their local people and I'm cool with it.They're great people.And I don't want to, I don't need the job.I don't need the gig.
04:06I just want to give fans access to the stuff to the games that they love.If people, if I,Brock, I'm going to ask you a question.Be honest.Do you know where to find Nebraska Wesleyan football,Brock games broadcast? No.Do you know where to find SEC basketball games?
04:27Not broadcast.Right.And anytime that's the case, which is why we call high school sports. So you can sit in your car and sit at home and listen to,listen to the games being called.Because it matters to the community. It matters to the people playing.
04:48I mean, the number of phone calls I get and the text I getfrom parents and relatives of the kids who play the Lincoln high school gamesthat we call, it means everything.Buck, do you know how cool it would have been to have?Look, I just mentioned how cool it was that George Michaelcame to one of my games and recorded it and put it in the newscastbecause it was the game of the week. But I would have loved a local broadcaster calling all of my games.
05:14in high school or college.Like, that's what it's for, isn't it?But that's just me.That's just me.Texas says, I wish ticket did all the Wesleyan Games on Radio would be cool to promote a small hometown university.I have offered, call them, I have offered. We literally had a meeting with them last Thursday. But we literally Jake Sorensen and Rudy, Rudy's alumni.
05:46And he went in, and it's all of the things that, okay, deep breath, deep, exhale,I understand they have a job to do.And I understand they have agreements and play, and I know they have fears and concerns on all those things.Okay.But my goodness gracious, I'm just offering to help.Like, if you played a way, as Rudy, he would have loved having his games on the ticket. It's a late afternoon.
06:19Let's say the Royals on or on.The Royals are on at night, and you could carry Wesleyan,or during a night where a Huskers play at 10 o'clock, you could carry Wesleyan at 1130.So why wouldn't you do that?Right?Because that'll draw traffic at interest.Instead, instead, we're going to carry.
06:39Now, again, football fans are going to be happybecause we're going to carry Ohio State and Indiana.Because we can.We do that for you because we can.We can.but ideally I would rather carry Nebraska, we can't.So we go within the Big Ten and we're going to offer Ohio State and Indiana. And then because, again, we got to, you know, we could just, we could just mail it in, Bach,
07:13or we can bring you number six, Alabama versus number 14 Tennessee.Bach, you good at that?Or maybe we'll offer you Auburn versus Georgia. What do you think?Too great, Robert.Right.But tell me that the local fan base wouldn't prefer to have Wesley on air or concordia.Tell me I'm wrong.
07:39What we do during Husker Games is we go back and we re-broadcast the Thursday night and Friday nightLincoln Public High School games from Seacrest so that those kids and families in schools can be proud of themselves and hear the games on the radio. In case you missed it, that's why we're here. And yeah, if it sounds like I'm a little bit frustrated, yeah, I am.But you can't make people, it would say I can lead a horse to what, I can't make them drink. And you, the listener, is sitting here validating and confirming that I'm right in the idea that I would want to do this for youand that you want to listen to those games.Because if you told me that you don't want to listen to it, that's fine.
08:28Then I would stop pushing. But it's the same thing for the NFL.You get a minimum of five NFL games a week.I would rather offer them to you and that you not be interested.I'd rather you have them and not want them than want them and not have them. That's a media profile. No, Texas says I'd rather have big time college football on Sundays. That's what you're getting.
08:59That's what you get.But here's the thing. We could do both.we can give you both.As a matter of fact, we can multi-stream because, quite frankly, when Lincoln High School football is going onand there's a volleyball post-game show, we double stream. And you just go on the apps and you can listen to either one,
09:28whatever you wanted to do.Peru State, you're absolutely right, Bill.He said, even if it's Peru State, the fans would love it.I have offered. And I cannot make people.do what's good for them.Remember.Okay, this is where we get into it.
09:48I'm going all the way down, Bob.When I first got here,I was told that nobody wanted to,they only wanted to talkHusker football all day.All day. They didn't want to hear about Husker basketball. They didn't want to hear about Husker baseball.
10:05They didn't want to hear about Husker softball. They didn't want to hear about Husker baseball. They didn't want to hear about wrestling.remember anything but Husker football. And I said, that's simply selfish and not true.So we start pushing the envelope, but we find that that people like talking aboutwrestling.People like Husker basketball.
10:23As a fact, we started, hey, Bach, remember the very first Husker basketball post-game shows? How absolutely frustrating those were.Yeah, back when they were running seven, nine games a year. And we did it.We did it.Why, Bob?Because we loved it.Because we loved it and you love.
10:42Then we just said, we're going to cover volleyball.and we went and got a show and they were like, no, nobody wants.Yeah, they do.Watch me.Now we do a Husker volleyball postgame show.Hey, Bach, what if I told you that Jalen Worcley has already saidthat he's willing to do a postgame show for Husker baseball all season long?Yeah, how about that?
11:04How do you like them apples?Going to find somebody to do Husker softball postgame shows. The question is, hey, Bach, do we do a Husker women's basketball postgame show?If the listeners tell us to do it, that's what we're going to do.Y'all tell us what you want. We'll do the best we can. We'll offer whatever we can do.And if you financially support it and you support it with your listenership, we're all good.
11:31But if you also told us to cover Peru State or you told us to cover Bellevue or you told us to cover Concordia or is in the water, let's make it happen. It has been, I have fully earned my gray hair that I shave.because I keep pushing people to do what's good for themeven if they don't want to assume that it's good for themor believe that it's good for them. They ask,we don't want former Huskers on air every day.Why would we want that?
12:08Yeah, I don't know. Why would you want to talk to Adam Kerrker and Jay Foremanand Grant Westermen and Jason Peter and DeVornie? Why would you want that? And it doesn't mean that I have to cut off Bachand Austin and Harrison to do it.Bach, am I fair?Yeah.
12:27It's crazy to me that this is what I fight for, and I get frustrated because there are peoplelike with DP, you're too much into that. No, no, I'm trying to give y'all as listeners. There's the amass, right? And we remember the thirds.I keep giving you the thirds as a theory and a principle because it's true.A third of the people will listen to whatever we brought.podcast because it's us and they know we care and that they think it's good.
12:59There's a third that wants to find a reason not to listen and I'm okay with that.Or a third that just doesn't like the show that's going on at that moment.I'm good with that, right?Because you can always go back and podcast, that's why we podcast, whatever way you listenand whatever you want to listen to it, even if you missed it.Okay, fine. Then the middle third will be very specific. They're either in or out based on the current topic and how they feel about it
13:25and the way it's being delivered. And I'm perfectly good with that.Sometimes the third is carrying Wesleyan athletics.Sometimes the third is talking about nonprofits in Lincoln.Sometimes the third is talking about the community college.Sometimes the third is talking about mental health.Sometimes the third is talking about the best restaurants.Sometimes the third is talking about your dogs
13:51in a ticket puppy mascot contest. We have the capability and the ability to give you whatever you want in some degree or fashion. And yes, in doing that for everybody, sometimes you personally are going to be offended and by it.And I'm okay with that. You should be too.But my goodness gracious, I am absolutely here for the fan.At some great expense, often, because there are people who are uncomfortable when I start talking about the truth. And the truth is, everything that you want to hear on the ticket and on the radio, I've made it available and I'm accessible.
14:38And quite frankly, hey, folks, in case you missed it, I'm the easiest person to find in Lincoln, Nebraska.I'm easy to find all the time.I'm right here at the court. The lights are on until midnight.I'm easy to find. You can find me on social media. You can reach out.My number's public.
14:58the door's open to the ticket. The front door is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.Post up, come have a cup of coffee, offer, let's talk about it.You don't like something, come talk about. If you love something, come talk about.Or if you just want to hang out. That's why we built it the way we built it.
15:20The number of people that we have walk in this doorto have coffee just to be in the space. But are we surprised yet that this is how this worksdown here? I'm not surprised. It's cool to see the different amount of people that come in here, you know, and especially like teams that are on the road like to come in here and,and get some copies. It's really cool.Repeat that part, that last part about opposing teams coming in here.Yeah, again, it's like some of those old sports in our commercials where it's just kind of
15:49randomly, you'll see, you know, some different logos in here that might be in town for a gameagainst the Oscars. And it's, at first it was kind of, hey, cool, that's happening. Now it's almostlike commonplace. Like, oh, yeah, they're there. And they come in ready to come on air and talk about it.Yeah. And you know why? You know what the number one reason why, Bach? We don't have this at ourschool. We don't have this at Penn State. We don't have this at Wisconsin. We don't have thisUSC. We don't have it. We don't have a place like this that you can come get coffee and then come talksports. We don't have it. We have it here. And I'm proud of it. I'm absolutely proud of.I'm proud of it.
16:33And I appreciate every listener.Even if you disagree with me,I,man,if you haven't learned a thing that I can love youand disagree with you, man, that is one of my favorite human traits about me.
16:47I can disagree with you and still love you.Like, you can be a Cowboys fan.I'll still love you.I think you have bad taste. But I mean,I mean,Yeah, I said get the Kamins and Twins for post game.Keep trying.
17:06Yeah, Ridge isn't going anywhere.Well, he's going somewhere to go win a title at RAF next week. But he's going to continue. He and Caleb are going to continue to do shows.Jaylen Worley's going to do more with us with us.But you appreciate it.You are appreciated.Truly for saying that.
17:24Local all day.I understand it.It's just, it's amazing.Texas says this.As a kid, it's awesome to hear your name on the radio as you're playing.Yep.and your parents are proud of you.And the parents will tell you, I heard you.
17:35And the kids will tell you. I heard it.The other bill says,DP, keep up the great work.So glad to hear youhearing about the other sports, especiallythe women's athletics. Thank you.Thank you. Thank you.Appreciate you so much.
17:52Because that's literally why we do it.And there are people that do not want to knowthat this other stuff goes onor that it's good or that it mattersor that people are listening in the numbersthat they're listening.and if you do not understand this part, and I'll give it to you as simple as I can get it.
18:09There are people that can tell you that this is easy. This isn't easy, but it's worth it.Radio stations across the country are folding. They're going broke. They're going bankrupt. They're going corporate, and they're firing all the local talent, and they're just streaming it in.We're not doing that.
18:29We're not going to do that. You're going to fight for you.And there are people that would rather we do it the other way.nope, not going to do it.We'll keep carrying local content and Husker contentand Wesleyan content and SEC contentand nonprofit content and community contentand music content and restaurant content,
18:53all of it, education content, all of it, all of it, all of it.Texas says this, I was a teammate of Rudy at Wesleyanwould have been sweet to go back and listen to the ticketfor a home run call. There it is.There it is.was joking with Gus Johnson. We did a charity softball game back in D.C. that he called.
19:15And I hit two bombs that day.And he finished the broadcast that day with his signature call, and a good time was headballed, and he knew it.And I asked him to repeat it, and he did on camera.Shared it on social media.Amazing.Hyl Hustker, you are appreciated it.I love this channel and what you're doing.
19:34Thank you. It's amazing. It's amazing.I mean, when I say that I love this, and again, I've been in this business for, for decades. And this group that works together loves each other, and this is rare because I've told them directly that I've worked in these huge buildings that had six or seven stations in them. And it was like a soap opera. That doesn't exist here. These people actually care about each other and they care about you.
20:11Eric, yes, I appreciate you, cons, sir.I truly do.Surely we do.Yeah, Bill and Bittic City, yeah, this rabbit holes deep.Yeah, we tend to do that.Dan says, if I pre-scented in my car,the channel had changed the game in Lincoln.Yeah, but this is why when I got here, again,
20:34the signal, I can't change the tower locationor the power of the signal.I can't change it.It existed, and that's what the FCC allows.It's in first.I can't move it.I can't.I can't do it.
20:45I can't cut over anybody else's a signal. So when I got here, I said,a couple of things that we can do.Whatever way people can consume this,we're going to offer it.So we got a cable channel for you.You can put it on TV.We can stream it.
20:58You can stream it on your laptop. You can stream it on your app.You can stream it on your desktop, on your phone. You can go to the website. You can go to YouTube. You can go to X.Every way possible that people consume sports conversation, you can go.
21:14We've made it available. That's literally why.The things that I don't control, I don't control other people's contracts, other people's agreements, other people's wants and needs, other people's bottom lines.I don't.The things I, as a coach, I work from control the control. And if you tell me that this is how you consume it and what you want to consume,I will do my damnedest to provide it for you.
21:43That is an absolute truth and it is consistent.and it is constant. If you tell me what you want, whether it be privately, publicly or otherwise,I'm going to listen because that's,that's my job. We'll go to break. We're one-on-one when we'll come back.
22:00Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to One-on-One with DP on 937The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com.
