DP is Preparing for his High School Hall of Fame Induction: October 21st, 12:45pm
00:00Back to one-on-one with D.P.Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket.I was like, okay, I'm going to be, you know, the Huskers don't play this week.So it's by week.Commanders have a buy week this week, too. That's too bad.Not really. It's going to work out.
01:02You don't want to go to a game out there?Oh, I'm going to go to a game.I'm just going to go next one thing.I'm going to go next Sunday. They play the Eagles. They play the Eagles next week. There's certainly an interesting team right now.Everybody's got it interesting, bro.
01:18Everybody.Everybody's interesting right now.Yeah, they play the Eagles Sunday night.Sunday night game.Sunday night game.So I'll fly back Monday afternoon. Not going to, that's going to be a busy weekend.I do want to say, so all the cool stuff is starting to happen for me.
01:45And so I'm grateful and I'm emotional and I'm trying to hold it together as best as I can. They sent me, my high school sent me the graphic that they're using for the Hall of Fame.So each inductee got their own graphic.and I was not ready.I was not ready,I was not ready. And they put the graphicand they put it next to
02:13they sent me a picture, image of the Hall of Fame, like the wall. And then what's funny is thatI had sent,so Chris Raff,a buddy Chris Raffwho's been doing graphics
02:26and that sort of thing.I had sent him a couple of picturesand said, hey, Raf,you know,do your magic.Let me see what you do.And he came up with his.
02:36And I'll tell you, his is incredibly. His is pretty good, I have to admit. But it all made me emotional.Because the difference in what he did, like he took one of the TED pictures and put it with it.They didn't.But both of them kind of kicked me in the shin.It was like, hey, this is really happening.
03:00This is really happening.like you're really putting me in the Hall of Fame this is crazy and they sent a little snippetthat so the school is 101 years old um and the new thing is established 1925 that's how longthe school has existed it was in all-boy school for i want to say it's the first 70 yearsfirst 80 years no first 60 years and umNo, let me make sure I do, get the number right. For the first 40 years, it was all boards. And all white.
03:44All white for a large, again, when we say, think, remember the Titans, that was my area's hometown. That's kind of how things were going. And they sent out a little snippet and said that there have been over 40,000 plus.students who have attended this high school. And, you know, that's a number. All right. And then they said, well, but only 60 are in the hall of fame.
04:26So out of 40,000 people, there's 60 hallfambers.Which, you just go, wow, okay.Bach quickly, what's the percentage?40,000, let's just use 40,000 and then 60.And there are actually 60 people currently in the Hall of Fame.So 0.015.0.015.Well, less than 1% of people.
04:55Less than 1% of people who are in the Hall of Fame.Yeah, it's getting real. It's getting real.Yeah, wow.I was going to ask you to this.Washington and Lee, you mentioned.it before because it's close to Washington Lee University. Is there like a, I don'tsay a pipeline, but like a connection there was. We were the, we were the baby gins.
05:17We were the little gins for a long time.Same colors. They are Washington and Lee.We were Washington hyphenly.Okay.We're both the generals. We're both blue and gray.Barry Thompson, our own Barry Thompson. He graduated from Washington.University. I was going to say was that like a popular place for most of the students to go?I mean, tough school to get into. They're all super tough schools to get into. I would say that the
05:50majority of so a 6A highly academic focused high school in Virginia that I would say that a largeportion of the student population wanted to go to UVA first. ButA large number, as many went to, it was tougher to get into UVA than it was tech.William and Mary, very tough to get into.Hampton, Sydney, VMI, Virginia Military Academy, Washington League. Those five schools were very difficult. They were kind of the ones to get into. And then James Madison was kind of the party school, but it was also a lot of the athletes.
06:41I mean, you think about in the 80s, in my era,Charles Haley and Gary Clark are playing football for James Madison. If that gives you any idea, those two, those two gave the NFL all the business in the worldcoming out of tiny James Madison. So you had your choices. And, you know, it's quite a run.Just have to say that.
07:01So today, I'll be on air today, and that'll be it for me until November.I'm going to go back and enjoy myself and see people and see. There's a reunion for,My high school is doing an all-decade reunion this Saturday. So I'm going to go back for that, all of the 80s.And then next weekend will be the Hall of Fame induction. So pretty cool stuff. We'll go to break and come back, bring you a second hour of one-on-mone.
