00:00Coming at you live from the teammates mentoring studio. It's time to go one-on-one with DP.A 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com,sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation. Here is your host, Derek Pearson.Say whacked.Boom.Get your chair dance on.
00:27Get your car dance off.4-0-2-464-5-6-85.The Sart of a heavy text line is.open for you for you and you and you and you and you and you and you differentand you and you even Eric father's fine come on in we understand we understand that's the thingyou're amongst family and friends everybody's family and friends on the text line them's the rulesHarrison Arons, how the heck are you?I'm doing pretty good.
01:14You know, I think I got through my frustrationswith Husker football.I think we're good.I'm at the point, onward and upward, look forward. And we'll get into that.I'm sure throughout the show here.My bears looked awesome.Farley talking all that trash about his Falcons.
01:26Didn't matter.Iceman's back.30 for 36. Come on.Bucket.MBA's back.Bucket.Paul George has got 33.Buckets.
01:33Cheating the Celtics.Yeah.Are we happy? So does our text line, want NBA talk or no.Me and Austintalk about this all the day.Austin's got to force-feated.
01:44I don't, but I don't have that desire.I'm not that limited or boundarythat I have to talk about the NBA.There's three games today.Okay, fine.Season's open.Season's open, everything.Everybody's really good right now.
01:59And it's still the best basketball and plenty.Yeah, by far.So, and it's something we can universally saywe're still best at, barely, but we're still best at.That's one thing we are the best at.Well, at football. We're at the best of football.Like, obviously no one's coming close to us.
02:14Well, you know, it depends on which portion of American football we're talking about.Which pocket of America are you talking about?Because the last two weeks, sir, the last two weeks.Just want to lay this out and I'm going to get this out so that I can be done with it.The last two weeks, I've watched my team win two to take two games that were very winnable.where they actually led in the fourth quarter.Oh,led in the fourth quarter.
02:45One required just some questionable decision making, you know, timeout usage, you know, time game management, right?Yep.Down awareness, you know, sort of the thing. And then being able to get pressure on the opposing quarterback in critical moments, all those things.and it's the last two weeks. It's the last two weeks.
03:12And I'm somehow finding my way into peace about it, right?Because I don't control it, but I don't know about your team, but the Washington commanders have really gotten.I was talking about the Huskers.Yeah, well, that was my point. That was my point was that I got double-dosed.Oh, yeah.I got double-dosed.
03:36double dosed of the we should have won fourth quarter. We've seen how well we can play for three of the four quarters. We just haven't mastered doing it as well.Technically, you tie versus the Giants.Better than a loss on the.Barely.On the number side of things. It was a tie that almost.
03:59Would it matter?Would it, would you feel, that's a question for you.Would you feel better if Nebraska had tied, either Oregon or Indiana.Yeah, I mean, a tie would feel better than...The tie would feel better only if you tied Indiana. The tie would be better knowing if I didn't know the future that we,if we didn't get the tie, that we would lose.
04:22At the moment, I'd be pissed that we tied.Because, again, we're leading in both those games in the fourth.Knowing where I am now that we went over to...The commanders could be in first place. They could be in first place.Yeah, but they're one and four in one.Yeah, but they could be in first place.at 3-2-1, they're walking, or 3-and-2, 4-and-2,
04:41they're winning, they're walking the streets with some oomph in the step. And those were all games in the way.And you beat the reigning, defending NFC champions.Yeah.Like you beat the Seahawks. You know, beating, you beating the Niners wasn't that much of surprisebecause the Seahawks dominate the 49ers.Right?
05:02We've seen that. We've seen it, of course, not this year.Niners actually stepped up.did the dang thing. But for all the Husker misery,I've had double the misery.Double your displeasure, double your unfun.
05:16I'll counter with a lifetime of misery.Oh, man.Outside of this year with my Chicago Bears. It was,it has been torturous.I always feel like Froub,Blucher, when I say it,be careful,
05:31the streets of the NFL,they can be three.adventurous.The NBA season, your wizards. You can watch them.Well, they gave me hope and then AJturned his ankle.
05:47So he's going to be out for the owner. He's out for, he's out for him. What's he's healthy? They'll be fun.Well, they'll be,I mean, they should be really fun withAJ, Anthony Davis, and, and,
05:55and Trey.I,Tray Young, plus they've got four young guns to run with them. So,you know, there's something there.Like that could be fun.
06:04You know, and then if I was going tofollow the Utah jazz and get excited about all their young dudes, then you lose JJ.You lose JJ.I was just like, okay, so just tell me.And then the Husker basketball is left out of the top 25.What do you want for me?Like, what do you want for me?
06:21Am I not, am I supposed to not enjoy any sport right now?Get on hockey. You got a hockey team?Caps, but it's a vet's last year. It's the last ride.I better enjoy it.Like, I'm going to see him next week.if I have to. There you go.
06:36I've got to get it in while I can get it.Go die hard in the NHL.Maybe that's what you do.This is, it's a bummer. It's not been a good week for you. It's a bumm when I tell you, it's the start, right? And so, but here's the thing that brought on all of that because I noticed at the end of the game I started. And there were several situations, one where I'm rooting for them, shoot, get the field goal early.
07:00And don't chase points early.Don't do it, don't do it.Of course, they did it.And it cost them.Okay, fine.There's that.But then.the final
07:08gun, the final sack, I did notpunch ghostthe way I did when the Huskers' finalgun happened. And the situationsas we pointed out were very similarin thatthese were season turningwin opportunities
07:25and got neither.A win against Indianaor Oregon changesthe season. Yeah.I win againstthe giantor the Niners.Yeah,
07:42Niners have been huge for the program. It changes everything. And I got none of them.I got none of them. But what I didn't feel like,I didn't feel like I need to punch air.And I don't know.I was trying to figure out why.
07:58And it was realizing the ability to accept that, that's just who Dan Quinn is.That's just who this team is.And can we?we get on the same page that when we talk when we talk about nebraska football are we talking aboutmatt rule and if we're talking about matt rule are we talking about nebraska football are those thingsabsolutely connected or is there some point of disconnect where we can say we like matt rulewe're disappointed in the husker football season we like the husker football team we're disappointed in
08:34the leadership what where's the line no i think that's fair like you got to have thoseconnect. A criticism on the performance of the game is not an attack on their personality and who they are as a person.Right. So to remember that, that if we're just saying, if we say, you know, you want this, this team to win, that's being a fan.Saying that you're losing because of, I'm not sure you're ever right. Because there's nothing that can be said, there's not one single thing other than, well, the numbers on the scoreboard have said, spoken facts.Yeah.Right.Other than that, everything's relative. It's an opinion.
09:18And it's from a perspective. But the reality is you can't blame Matt Rule for two losses. You can't blame Dana for two losses. You can't blame Calandria for two. Can't blame the offensive line for two.You can't blame little red.You can't.You can't.
09:37They will try. They will try to say.Oh, they will try.Little Red's been head hunted for far too long.Leave that guy alone. He just chilling at the career of miners. He's taking straight. He's trying to, but he's just seeing all the time.
09:48He was like,he goes,I didn't miss a block on Saturday.Like,what is,I didn't miss a tackle.I wasn't out of position.How was this about me?
09:57It was literally at the volleyball match,guys.What are we doing?I wasn't even there.Wasn't mine.What,you know,wasn't mine.
10:05But so it's the accumulation. We say it all the time. It's the accumulation of a bunch of things. And to be in the space.where one play ultimately can take it one way or the other means that there is an accumulationof plays. You made a bunch of great plays to have you in the position to win the game. That's literally the purpose of coaches and otherwise to say it's my job to get you in a
10:29position to win the game at the end of the game.If that's at top of it, some would say no, it's my job to win the game at the end of the game. But in order to do that, you have to have them in a position first. So first things first.I'm not sure chicken or egg, which is Eric leave little red in line.Brother ain't bothered nobody. Is Lil Red the dude, right?Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:53Okay, I wasn't sure.How dare you?I don't know.Back a little red.I don't know.I don't know.I didn't look.Well, I'm not sure what the age of little red is.
11:04I didn't look.I didn't look.I didn't look.I did that look. And I'm proud of that.Oh, man, Bubba, I still have tools rated sack by a little red at 50 yard line.I just need to hear the word.Like that poor God, man.
11:19But here's the thing, because it would just be, because remember, we've had the long, what's the full list of excuses we've had since 2016, right?First it was Polini.Like, we can go through the list of here's, all you have to fix is this and it'll all be better.Okay.Let's go through the full list of all of it.Steve Peters.Yep, top of the list.
11:44Good call, Bubba.Polini, the fuck.Well, you want to go to Frank Solich first.Frank Solich.Yeah, what was his big problem?Who fired Frank Solich?Oh, who did fire?Right.
11:55So.I'm not sure.I can't remember who fired.I text on a nail.Right.Is there anybody, is there any, is there any room on the list for?Steve Peterson.Okay.
12:07There you go.Thank you, Bubba. Is, is, is there any room on the list?like let's go through it so seePeterson Frank Solichuh Bo PoliniBo Polini's catyeah post game
12:20Texas not making a tackleum well Texassomeone say the refsthe refs SEC Longhorn Networkwhatever right let's get them all let'slet's see if we could get them all rightand we'll just fully countedas therapy but what else is there
12:36well you go both lady was too meanand then you can also argue with the refsthey stole that one from usAnd then you bring in Mike Riley.Mike Riley was too nice.So being too nice was the problem. Not enough grit. And then you went to Scott Frost.
12:49You went, let's go back to the glory days and bring in Scott Frost. And then that one didn't work out.Why didn't it work? There's a hundred reasons. Why didn't it work?Boy, that's a rabbit hole we can get into. Why didn't work?I'd like to.
13:02Because listen, if we don't understand what didn't work then, what we got right? He does a great quarterback. What did they get right or wrong? Some would say that his choosing, choosing Adrian Martinezled to the demiseof Nebraska football
13:15over the next four years. That was like the best part of the Scott Frost.Well, no, they say that there was a quarterback herewho was, who was.Yeah, Joe Burrow. No, that was also in competitionwith Adrian and Scott Frostchose Martinez.
13:27And he ended up transferring out.Oh, my miss Matt off.Yeah.I can't remember that one.But I know there was the whole recruiting story. It's like, well, the host is going to have Burrowin that whole.Well, they could have.
13:38You know, that's 20.Right.Yeah, there was a quarterback, a backup quarterback that was in battle with Adrian.I think he came in the same years, Ateam, as a matter of fact. And they said, well, he should have given him a chance. And that never happened. And then I remember young Mr. Washington, the fact that there were people who blamed that he should have been given a chance and he shouldn't have been given a chance.Yeah, Jebite.
14:08Jebia.Yep, yep.He went to Oregon State.Yep, yep.Yeah, okay, that's really thinking.Yep, the Jebia, right? If you had given the range to Jebia, that would have changed everything.
14:18Mm-hmm.Then under Adrian, you played him too much, you asked too much out.You didn't ask enough of him.He was too good of a runner. He was sloppy as a runner.I want Dale Robinson.Couldn't get him, trying to run him between the tackles.
14:33And he says, up, I'm up and out of here.Thank you very much.Defensive playbook.Use the 425.getting out of the four two.Special teams, was kicking, the ball,
14:44the wrong way.Snat, center couldn't snap the ball.Yeah, but then also becameone of the best centersin Nebraska historyfor a long time.
14:50Well,because so apparently they were wrong.They were.Apparently they were wrong.No running game,no running back,enter in it,Emma Johnson.
15:00Now that's not the excuse.Yeah.I mean,they had,uh,was I Anthony Grant.He was pretty solid.Solid.
15:07Yeah.I mean, wasn't Emmett.No.I mean, it'sCOVID, no fans in the stands.I think COVID not having fansin the stands actually did those teams of favor.
15:18Yeah, for the first time in a long time, like no overbearing pressure. There's no pressure, no booing, there's no distraction, right? You should have won, shoulda, coulda, right? All the things. Then if you go through the list, and I go through it on purpose,
15:31that no matter what the list of excuses are, quite frankly, you could just line it upand say you have to make more plays.everybody has to make one more play.Like that, and it doesn't matter who it is.One more block, one more tackle, and critical moment. When they make that play is of importance.Make one more kick.
15:52One more positive yards punt.Make a special team play.Make the special teams play.Don't catch the punt inside your five.Don't fumble on running out of bounds.Don't go out of bounds short.Don't go into your slide before you get to the first down.Which, I want your thoughts.
16:10Like, we're back to just like, we're just going to have to catch it now all year.Oh, that was the comment.Oh, can I say?No, it was like, oh.No way, we're back to this.See, and this is where I'm from the George, Vince Lombardi, George Allen era of football. And George Allen made Washington good.He and Vince Lombardi made Washington good.
16:39because they decided that they were going to practice special teamsand be better at special teams than everybody they faced.Like literally, I mean, there was a whole run,an entire run of kick returners and block puntsand all those things for the Washington Redskins back in the 70s.That was a difference maker. It was a difference maker. He said, listen, we're old, we're slow,
17:01but we don't make mistakes, and we still point on special teams. And that's what they did.And then so to hear, again, he knows his,He knows his players better than we do.Yeah.Is that a fair statement?Yeah.
17:13Like,it might be the right decision, especially after what you saw last week, but it just sucks like one of the glory days is me and was,you know,we're getting to watch a guy like the morning of Pearson now.Getting to watch a guy like Devin Heston. You're Johnny Rogers for cry out.
17:24Well,you imagine,you know,imagine Bob Devaney said,just fair catch you.Just fair catch you, Johnny.Enough for that.But I under,
17:32but here's the thing.I,they don't have Johnny Rogers on the roster.No,they don't.And I understand that.okay, say what you say, coach.Yep.
17:41As a kick returner,oh, it makes my skin crawl.Yeah.Because I never met a kickoff or a punt.I didn't want to return. And if I hadn't take a hit because it was too close, give me the hit.I mean, it's probably where my brain's kind of fried right now.
17:57It's true. There may have a couple of times where I probably should have fair a clock. But that's okay, right? That's okay.So I don't know in the particulars of who does what and what's wrong. But what we point out of,is this. There's always an excuse. For the negative minded, there's always, no matter what, there's a reason and excuse for every
18:20solution. There's something wrong. But here's the thing that we're living in and walking intoday. That when you say to, I say it this way, the way that John Madden used to, and I'llparaphrase John Madden when we say this, he goes, winning is the greatest deodorant.Everything stinks when you're not winning. When you're losing games, everything stinks. But when you're winning, it's okay. And there's a full matter of truth to it.There's a full matter of truth to it.
18:57And the other adage is there's nothing wrong that a win won't cure it.Which is why the headline for today's show was, what if Nebraska's good? What if they're actually good? They're just in a bad street. What if it's about the turn?Because we've had these conversations about Nebraska basketball.Well, they never, they never win a tournament game,
19:24so they're never going to do it until they do.And then that was well. All as well. But just going to have to show it.I mean, Jeff uses the analogy all the time. And Jeff Bessig, and it's a great analogy. We are the dog that's been kicked too many times.to where we're just scared.
19:43No, no.Now if they start winning, like, you know what?Hey, this human's all right.I can get right along this. That's part of the invoice of being a fan.You have to go through the suffererin order to truly embrace and enjoy the good.
19:55Oh, yeah, but that's for that fan. You're not a kick dog.Deep, I don't want to hear it.You're not a kick dog.The kick dog.The kick dog, tell me, the court, the kick dog is,I understand the fact.
20:11fan base being hurt. Yeah. And being upset because what youlove the most isn't goingthe way you wanted to go. It doesn't meandon't get wrong. The kickdog doesn't mean that this ownerisn't a good owner. We're just notsure yet because I've had other ownerskick me. You're the
20:27I'm a concerned kick dog that maybethis guy's a good guy. Maybe he's not. You'rethe dog in the in thecage waiting from that rule to come letyou out.In a sense. You're the abused puppythat
20:41is waiting in the cage.Nobody loves us.We never get picked. We never get to go home.We never get to win extra gamesagainst a good dog.And we're waiting. And Matt Roo walked by the cage.
20:54Walks by the cage.I'm just kidding.I'm just kidding.Please adopt us.Please give us a win.There's nothing wrong that it will won't cure.Simple deal.All right.
21:08We're going to take our first break. We've got guests.coming in for Big Brother, Big Sister. And then we'll get into this thing that the movie is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.Harrison, have you seen the movie?Yes, I have.Dirty rotten scoundrel. We will reference that at the top of the act.
21:32Let's see if you can find the line from the movie, Dirty Rodden Scambles, that applies directlyto Nebraska football.Don't think too hard. There's one that's very obvious. We'll be right back.Back to one-on-one with D.P.Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket.Welcome back, one-on-one.
22:07Little guitar solo, you're set to five.Kyle Bishop, a big brother, big sister, joins us now.And in the previous visit, we set the table for what's going on,what the areas of need are, what the current status was then.So let's set the GPS now. What is the status of affairs?Where do we stand? What is the mission?
22:37Let's start with the mission going forward. What are we trying to get done during the confines of this campaign?Yeah, for sure.So like we talked about last time,we're doing our joint team big campaign, really just our active ball recruitment for mentors to pair up with kiddosthat are currently on our wait list. And right now we have around, I want to say it's 34 young people that are currently waiting.
23:03And yeah, I mean, you know, this is what we're all about. It's just trying to get out here and tell people that this is a need that our community has.We have young people that want to, you know, pair up and explore what Lincoln has to offer. And, you know, in turn, that helps ignite potential in young people too.but really that's what we're doing right now that's the stage and in this highlighted time on thecalendar it's one you want to get big brother big sister but you also can help people can helpby making donations oh yeah absolutely if you don't have you know harrison orange um that if thefirst question is time there are other ways to help and be a part of this thing whether it be a mentor or
23:53donate. Absolutely. Yeah. So aside from, you know, being a mentor is, of course, you know, a tremendousthing. I understand, though, for some folks, it's not really within their wheelhouse, like with timeconstraints. But, you know, one option that's really popular is becoming a matchmaker in our program. And what that is is, is it's like a monthly donor that helps to support activities in the program. And it could be, you know, I would say something as little as $15.15, you know, know, I don't know, like the price of a meal at, I'd say, like, Freddy's or Culver's or somethinglike that. For that much a month, you know, you can support at least one activity for a matchin our program. And, and yeah, I want to say that right now, if you do actually become a matchmaker,
24:40we're sending out canvas bags for anyone that's 15 and over. And if you're an existing one,if you increase it by five. But yeah, right, that's another great way that you can support the programas well. So if you're going to the websiteand it's, give the websitewhile I do this. Yep, it's BBBSmidlands.org.And if we said$15
25:04sets up a mealamongst these, amongst the space. Now, does that,is that just for the littleor is that for both? Well, you say meal andthat makes me think. I would say with$15, I view that more is likelike an ice cream gets
25:23together between two matches. I mean, obviously, you know, with prices the way they are, the priceof a meal definitely is more than, well, for two meals is more than that 15. But if you wanted toto support a match going out for a meal, I'd say probably like close to 30 or 35. But for that 15,that minimum, yeah, you could definitely support something smaller, whether it's like ice cream ormaybe it's like going to Michaels and buying some art supplies for an activity together or you knowI know some of our matches they like they like outdoor recreation stuff so supplies relating to thatso if I said to you uh I just said 50 bucks 50 well I well because I want to have a meal and someice cream so I don't think that's that's right too much yeah I would say that's
26:16Of a reach enough to do that, right?Uh-huh.And it's just that quick and it's just that easy to be able to do that.So there's a thing that can be done. There's a way to go about this and you're helping.Yeah.And quite frankly, these are anybody this reaches, this is a big win for them. This is a big part of their week when they get to go through and do a thing.
26:38You're taking some of the burden off folks and you're making one of the little smile.Oh, yeah, absolutely.Easy enough. It can be done.PayPal.whatever way you want to do it, but you can go to the website. What button should they look for?I went through it and got the scanner, the QR code.
26:53Yeah.So, I mean, if you're at the top of our main web page there, there should be like a menu, and one of those options there should be donate. And when you click on that, it'll give you the option of the service area you want to choose. So whether it's our Lincoln area or the Omaha area, you can choose to donate to one of those. And then it also, like I said, gives you the option if you are interested, and becoming a monthly donor as well. There's simplicity in this.
27:20And again, there's a greater good.We try to make it as straightforward as possible. And then if we said this that,I mean,we have a lot of really cool, good restaurant people in the area.Is there a way that we could kind of bring them into this
27:34and say, quite frankly,if somebody comes in on one of the meetups, that we could provide a meal for them?Is that possible?Yeah, absolutely. We have a number of like business partners.partnerships already in Lincoln that offer like discounts or like free admission for matches depending on
27:51which partner we got you done thank you so we got you done and it didn't take long and it's notcomplicated so that that's a short span of time but but but yeah definitely if if we said that in thespace that that we work in because I think those are all little things that add to it but ultimatelywe're trying to get people to commit and we have there's Harrison how many people onstream right now uh right now we're looking at uh just short of 100 so if let's get 10 let's get 10 peopleto commit to doing this and i i don't think it's too much of a reach i mean you know the brickand mortar folks in the car they're you know they're hiding under driving out of their steeringwheel right now making sure we don't see them as they drive by but there's a way for us to track and
28:42we have really good people who listen to this show that that i know to be sure and likeYou mentioned business partners.Like, that's definitely, if anyone's ever interested in providing that sort of discount,we have a general contact form on our website that you can use to reach out to us.Or, of course, you can also, I would say that's the easiest way. It's probably using our contact form on our website. And there's other things, other ways to be involved in this. What would you suggest?
29:11What would you say to people who are listening? There's folks who, you know, I don't have the time, but I do want to be involved.I mean, honestly, there's really, I mean, when it comes to our program, the major opportunityis mentoring. And if beyond that, you know, like we just talked about, was donating, those are the mainthings that we focus on just because we have that need right now.And it's a consistent, persistent need is what I mean.
29:38Like in my time that I've worked there, and this is true of many mentoring programs, you know, we've never closed out the wait list. The wait list has never been empty. We are able to lower it, but it's never truly empty because there's always going to be that need. There's always going to be a kiddo that wants to be more involved in our community. There's always going to be a parent, maybe even a single parent that would like some extra support for their child. And then they go to big brothers, big sisters for that. And because of that, we'll have that persistent need.
30:10And I would say, like, you know, there's, like you said, the donation is the major thing. The other thing that comes to the top of my mind would be like sponsoring any of our annual fundraisers that we do, like both for kids' sake, which will be in the springtime.March is what I think we're shooting for next year. But I mean, you know, I'm the marketing and recruitment coordinator. My whole thing is getting mentors through the door. And, you know, I think that even if you don't have the time you're saying, you're saying, you're saying, you probably know a person that has that time. And I think that one of the most powerful things you can do is to nominate someone in your life.
30:57I can go to events in the city and tell people after they talk to me a bit that, you know, you would be a great mentor. But I think it's a whole other thing hearing that from an important person in your life. And if you know someone that you feel would be interested in spending time with a young person, becoming more involved in our community, and the experience itself is uplifting for the soul, too. Then point them in our direction.Point them to BBS Midlands.org
31:26and, you know, have them sign up.Yeah, and it is Midlands, not Lincoln, and I had somebody that texted me.Of course, I was like, yeah, it's Midlands. When it comes, they clicked on it and it says,it says Midlands.I want to make sure we got the right one.Yep, that's right.
31:44We combined with all.Omaha at the start of 2024. So together we are Midlands. And are you telling me that between Lincoln andOmaha together, there's still 34 kids. Oh gosh. Sorry. I'm so Lincoln minded. Well, that's why I was trying to,I was trying to measure. I want to say it's 34 in Lincoln. And I want to say, oh gosh, close to double. That is, is Omaha. Who are the young people in Lincoln who, who,who are looking for a big brother, big sister? Who are the folks? Where do they come from? Where do youWell, generally speaking, like our age range, seven to 14. So all within that. And a lot of the time, I mean, it's a variety of kiddos. And that's a big reason why we try to have like a varied pool of volunteers for intentional matchmaking. But a lot of the times it's parents that are contacting us through the, through our website or calling our office and signing up their kiddos that way. Every now and then we'll have youth serving organizations.or schools that provide referrals as well. But, you know, generally speaking, these are just,
32:50these are kiddos out in our community. They're regular kids that just want to be more involved. They want to have someone that shares their interests, engage with them, and go out and enjoywhat we have in our community because there's so much in Lincoln. There's a lot. So do you domuch with like the Lincoln Stars? Do you do? In the past, yeah, we have actually. We've donewe did like a little promotion thing in the past where they had free tickets for matches to come and attend and then they did like a brief shout out during the during the game itself would you would you have a preference on a night a time in order to use that as as kind of an added um for us you know i would say i i'll be honest when is their season yeah it starts it just started it just started it juststarted i was like i thought it was hadn't been hearing anything but but yeah no that's why i brought it upbecause we try to help them and we try to help put the right combinations of businesses and non-profitstogether and in your particular case what came to mind was well geez if folks are willing to do this
34:05week say you know what maybe go to a stars game in your first meetup maybe maybe we'll take some of theburden off if we give you and then put you around other people who may take away some of the unease or thethat may be involved. And that would work great.Like if we had tickets to different games and that sort of thing, then yeah,it'd be similar to what we do with like Nebraska athletics. When they donate to us,
34:28it'd just be like,we have it available and we let our matches know. And if they sign up for it,then we provide them the tickets for that experience.Which programs at Nebraska?Which teams kind of participate in this thing? So usually it's either, gosh, and to say that the teams themselves might not be accurate,
34:45sometimes they're individual donors. But like I've Husker football, we've had volleyball in the past, and then basketball, and the Lincoln Salt Dogs.I know that, well, technically, yeah, they do Nebraska baseball. What about Nebraska wrestling? We haven't had anything from Nebraska wrestling yet.I think we can do something.Yeah, I mean, any of those opportunities, you know,
35:09we're happy to let our matches know and see if they have that interest. And if they do, then absolutely. It's a great opportunity. We will help in whatever way we can to do this again.Let the folks know if they want to be a part of this. They want to participate.Let them know where to go and what you're looking for.Yeah.
35:26So go to BBBS Midlands.org.So that's gorgeous Google, big brothers, big sisters of the Midlands. And we're really looking for folks age 19 and older that, you know, have access to a vehicle that they can, because we're community-based.So there's picking up and drop.off of your mentee and of course doing activities out in the community.Generally speaking, the major things are having a high school diploma or GED equivalentand being able to pass like a background check and driver record inspection sort of thing.
36:01Carl, I think, again, it's novel work, great heart, great mission. So that's when you know, okay, we're all in.And if there's anything that we can help with along the way, between now and end of campaign, please let us know.Well, thank you so much. No, I appreciate it.I mean, you already did a pretty awesome contribution. But of course, yeah, we take any help we can get.
36:24He is Kyle Bishop, a big brother, sister of Midlands. We're going to break more one-on-one when we come back.Back to one-on-one with DP.Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 The Ticket. That was Kyle Bishop.Big brother, big sister, Lincoln, Midlands. And again, we hope that you can step up, if you're able, step up and be a part of what they do on a regular basis.
37:10Of course, we support the nonprofits in this area, specifically in the Lincoln area, who are trying to make it better for young peoplein the city as a whole, the community as a whole.Hopefully you're supporting.Me included.I got to be better.I got the forum filled out here.
37:29Here's my thing.If I don't have any more time,and I don't know many people who are as busy as I am.I'm here from 7 a.m.and you're good, D.P.m. to 12 midnight.And you're on top of everything.Right.And even when I'm not here,
37:42I'm still getting ready for being here, right, and teaching classes and running another business.Yeah, we post games until 3A.Writing books.Yeah, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yada. And I did have to explain it earlier,Lindsay, a new staffer asked the question, well, how do you deal with stress?
37:59What's more stressful teaching or, you know, preparing for shows? And I'm like, I don't stress.I don't believe in it.We get to do everything that we get to do.I don't understand creating, as Mark Manning says, you know, let's not make it bigger than it is.so in that you try to help as much as you can and do what you can however you can and it doesn'tif we do the small thing Lincoln does the big thing we know that we know that and it's a pretty
38:42cool place to live and a pretty cool place to exist so we support in whatever way we can support itthe donation was just a small thing but if you have time for a little oh it'll be a really good timeto Antio up and join up with Big Brother, Big Sister of the Midland. And if you can't make time, send a donation. And they said, you know, buy ice cream for one of the pairs. You know, buy a burger.Do something.Anything helps and matters.
39:12Second hour, one-on-one coming up here on the ticket.
