Back to one-on-one with D.P.
Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket.
Texas are out here.
5183 says Lincoln has the worst barbecue selection of any city in the Midwest.
What say you?
What say you all?
I'll be honest.
I'm just uncultured when it comes to that stuff.
I think we have good barbecue, but like when we've gone down to KC,
the barbecue down there was awesome.
I might have missed like there's some spots I just haven't been to.
So I can't say you don't have it.
I'm only responding to.
I didn't,
I didn't text it.
Hank says this.
DPM curious,
if you had your choice of the last meal,
obviously,
no health included.
I got to hear it.
Last meal.
Yeah,
it would be a prime.
A part of me would just say primary potato corn or spinach or something like
just because I like just because I like.
like it.
You would have,
you'd have to have dessert.
I'm not sure what that dessert would be.
Probably a really good chocolate shake.
That's,
I was going to.
Like an authentic chocolate shake.
I don't know if a really good pizza
wouldn't do it,
though,
because it would last.
It would.
Yeah,
you got a whole large,
it would last.
And you've got to be really bad at pizza
to make a bad pizza.
I say that.
You have to,
you have to work like making a bad cheeseburger it's like how'd you manage yeah yeah yeah you can
undercook it or overcook it right but it's pretty easy to not my buddy was over he was over in
italy and he explained the the the value of an almost burnt pizza crust yeah that's why the fire
stove pizza's hit because it got that crispy edge yeah yeah he he was like he was just over there he was
like yeah pie it was it was just that he was like that crust
that crunch to the crispy crust was the difference maker for him.
So I don't know, but I would think that that's close.
If it's a pizza, wings, and a chocolate shake, I'd be fine.
If it's prime rib, baked potato, another veggie, and a milkshake, chocolate milkshake,
I'd be just as fine.
A Sunday would be great.
Okay, so Harrison, let me give you a playbook thing.
And text line, tell me if any of you did this.
You're familiar with pound cakes, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
So in my house, this was only on Sundays.
Only on Sundays.
My grandmother would make pound cake.
She would make from scratch pound cake.
And she'd cut it and slice it, cut it, slice it, cut it, cut and slice it.
And she would put a slice on a plate.
And then you would get a scoop of,
Neapolitan ice cream on the top.
Pound cake, Neapolitan,
chocolate, strawberry vanilla on top,
and then you would eat them together.
That doesn't sound like it'd be bad.
Like, I'm a game for that.
Oh, you, let me, let me tell you.
Yeah, that seems like it goes.
That was, that was, that was,
that was the crowning to the best weekend ever.
Was that one, so Grandma Sunday,
She would fry fish, but she would fry chicken.
She would fry chicken.
She would cut fries and then she would bake potatoes.
She would bake regular potatoes and then she would also bake sweet potatoes.
You got cut, fresh cut green beans.
You got, or you could have spinach.
No, collard greens.
Collard greens.
Corn that would go on the grill.
On the cob.
You kept it on the cob.
On the grill.
And then for dessert, you had the pound cake.
You had an apple pie.
You had chocolate chip cookies made from scratch.
And then the biggest container of Neapolitan ice cream
and then a smaller container of butter, pecan ice cream.
And you could have whatever combinations of said buffet you can have.
And this is why the greatest woman I've ever known is my grandmother had.
Nobody loved her family the way my grandmother did, except for every grandmother.
That's the Rob.
Every, every, I don't want to be indifferent, but black grandma just got it done.
right because that Sunday morning you got first of all you wake up if you stayed with her or if you got with her
go to her house James Cleveland the Reverend James Cleveland was on your on on the radio
before you went to church she would scramble eggs bacon sausage
a scrapple the hell of scrapple they would call it livermush it was a combination of pig
different portions of it.
You would slice it,
coming in a loaf,
you slice it,
dip it in flour,
fry it.
Okay.
Pancakes from scratch
or waffles,
your choice.
Or both,
if you felt like it,
you could do both.
And then on every fourth Sunday,
steak.
Steak.
So you can have steak and eggs.
Go to church,
come watch football.
Sunday dinner.
Nothing better.
No, that's life.
I've never,
I can't even tell you
nothing in my life,
not anything in my life,
is as great as a Sunday meal
at my grandmother's lunch.
See, for me,
it was a fried chicken.
My mom would make the fried chicken.
Oh, and listen, I still have it.
Nobody's ever made fried chicken
as good as my grandma.
Yeah, I feel like that's why everyone.
Nobody. Nobody. Nobody.
So, you know.
This,
of mine with the last meal question you ever get down to the rabbit hole like the worst last
meals no well i don't liver like liver one guy just had liver i was looking up some of them
that's just a single doctor pepper sound where you go done i've done but they didn't have
dr pepper so i gave him a Pepsi oh if i'm done i'm done i'm done right you're checking out yeah
i'm looking it's just some of the members are yeah i some guy just wanted to do
dirt and they said now we won't do that that's that makes sense so they gave me yogurt
double a come come with it don't threaten me with a good time he said it's time I brought
you some more grub deepie don't threaten me with a good time doors open I'll leave the
light on for you I'll leave the light on for the I hope you're doing well brother I hope you're doing
well I'm seeing you a minute been too long um Corby says yeah twist of my arm enough I'm gonna grill
steak and get any time any of you decide you just want to cook for the ticket
you let me go on and get cooking we take delivery we take delivery um 3369 says my uncle still makes me a homemade
scrabble once every three months is my favorite thing next time i go i'll get one and bring you some
go ahead do do that do that my so it was funny because so in high school and again you know
there was a stretch of my high school years where i stayed with my grandmother instead of staying with mom
and pop, I stayed with grandma
because one, it was a nicer house, two, food was better,
three more pieces of your kids, right?
So it's just me, my grandma, my grandfather,
and my uncle John.
So I got the best.
And then I also got the best grades when I was there
because she made me study every night.
So there's that.
Pays out.
Right?
But I had a friend from North Carolina,
the country in North Carolina.
not city Carolina,
country Carolina.
And
he said the thing,
I played football, baseball with him.
Shout out Gary Williams.
His dad was Ed I
of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Yeah, Ed I.
Catcher.
And how was it? How did you get to know this guy?
He went to high school.
And one day we're at a
his eyes and you know his mom shout out k harrison loving um rest of peace she's cooking and she's she's
making scrapple and i'm like oh my goodness you're making scrabble and gary looks at me he goes what
what the hell scrabble and i said well your mom's making it's right there and he goes oh we call that
liver mush oh okay that's where she's liver mush and i
I was like, I like Scrabble one. That sounds bad. I was like Scrapples on the label.
It's on the label, man. And he was like, no, we call it livermush. That's all just,
this is what we call it. We had every, every weekend. That was what we did. So I think that,
yeah, if I don't know that I've had any here in Lincoln. I have not seen it.
Um, I'm now going to be intrigued because I know my, my folks back east can get it to me.
Would Foreman be aware of Scrabble?
Huh?
Would Foreman be aware of Scrabble?
Yes.
Absolutely.
And again, it comes in a square.
It's compressed.
Like a spam?
Pig product.
You dip it in, you cut it, you slice it.
It comes in a square.
You cut it.
Dip it in flour.
Throw it in grease.
Try it.
What in the work?
Crisp outside, tender inside.
makes a great egg and scrapple sandwich.
Yeah, I'm also, and I don't know anybody else that loves this as much as I do.
Corned beef hash.
Harrison, are you a corn beef hash guy?
I don't know if I am or not.
I, you don't understand.
The work that I would put in on some corned beef hash that you can put in on the grill.
Oh, yeah, I'd be done.
for that. Oh, yeah. Corned beef hash is another one. Have that with some eggs? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. But I don't know, I don't know that I've seen. I certainly haven't had any here. Maybe, uh, oh, the, the, what's the, the, the Cracker Barrow. Yeah, Cracker Barrow probably had. Cracker Barrow, maybe Denny's. Maybe Denny's got a big menu. It might be on that. The Cracker Burroughs, I would imagine. Yeah. Yeah. Is that, is that really fast food though? Chris says that's fast food. I'm not.
sure that is it is it that's his favorite breakfast food oh yeah but oh i thought i misread it then
he said it was his favorite fast food not breakfast food which checks out yeah um he said uh good
evans what's good evans no idea what's the morning britt the darrell evans no that's the baseball
player good evans i i am unaware this is a song something evans down on the farm
You're looking at
John Evans?
I didn't know I do.
What's,
it's a break,
it's like,
it's like Denny's,
uh,
it's a breakfast place.
Good Evans.
Something Evans down on the farm.
This is a song and the jingle.
Oh,
there's two locations on Lincoln.
Good Evans.
I,
I have not enjoyed good Evans.
70th and A.
Bob Evans.
Thank you guys are the best.
I knew you'd come through.
Bob Evans down on the farm.
You never heard the jingle?
Negative.
It's a great breakfast place.
My college baseball team would stop there
when we're going on a road trip.
Bob Evans.
Well done.
We'll go to break.
Close that one-on-one.
She's got a break away.
She's all alone.
She's going.
She's going!
