Starting point is 00:00:14 Oh, look at us. It's the Tower Chrysler Studios. Wow, for one of us. From three different locations. It's wherever we are, it's the Tower Chrysler Studio. We're in Jasper, Tower Chrysler Studios. We're in Marta Loop. We're in my shit hole. We're in Florida. It's all the Tower Chrysor Studios.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Tower Chrysler, yeah, yeah, Tower Chrysler, the Calgary's favorite, Tower, Dodge, Ram Jeep. Number one dealership in all of Calgary. Calgary. There is, there's Ryan Pinder. I'm me and there is the Rettster who palm trees just over your shoulder. Swaying in the barriers. We're living vicariously through you. You are the Jimmy Buffett of our generation. Isn't this suit me? Like, isn't this my style? Shouldn't I be positioned down here more often with palm trees and blue sky around me? Why aren't you? It makes me happy. Living there. Like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Sitting around doing fuck all. Yeah, that suits you for sure. But again, you moved, you moved to that country where we believe you have access and you're able to gain entry. And you went to Buffalo. Well, the bills were supposed to win. So I was going to ride that out for a few months. It's a slow move, right? It's kind of, I'm moving in the right direction, I'll say. It's closer to here than I was before.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Yeah. It's true. Yeah. It's a shorter flight to Florida than from Calgary for sure. You are now free to move about the country. What have you accomplished since we saw? I was going to say, I was going to say. I ate.
Starting point is 00:02:02 I ate and I ate at the whales rib and it was so happy. You were. And then I did what I said I wasn't going to do. I went back to Houston's, took the boys for. some French dip sandwiches, the spinach dip. Oh, so good. I had barbecue ribs. Big old salad.
Starting point is 00:02:24 It was delicious. Now, could we revisit the order? I had to carb load for tonight's big game. Yeah, of course. I had to get my carb loading. Did you have to say you ate dolphin or was it a typo? Because I think you were so excited to be at the whales rib. You're hammering out tweets and you'd said dolphin keyless.
Starting point is 00:02:44 and I think you might have meant something Key West, but I don't know when you're talking to text. Yeah, key. No, it should have. It must have, I don't know, I thought I wrote Key West. I hope there's not keys on the fish. It's a mahi, mahi. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Not dolphin, mahi, mahi. But I think dolphin is D.A. It's like dolphin, Manitoba. People were concerned you're reading dolphins. I don't know. Yeah, no, so was my kid when I ordered it. My youngest is like, Dad, is that real dolphin? I'm like, no, that's not dolphin.
Starting point is 00:03:20 It's the mahi mahi. And it's delicious. Just delicious. Because you put, did you put some out on the Twitter? Yeah. Because you did. You put on your tweet, and I'm looking at it right now, I crushed it, smoked fish dip, lobster bisque, blackened dolphin keyless.
Starting point is 00:03:42 No keys. Key West. Key West, sorry, Key West. So it's not dolphin and it's not keyless? Yeah. They call it dolphin though? It's dolphin. They call it that.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Okay. Yes. Yes. Yeah. That could create some confusion. It's weird, man. I know. When you go to the restaurant, it's, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:02 I don't, I don't get it either the first time I saw it. I was confused. Yeah. But if you look up a mahi mahi fish and look at images, beautiful fish, the waters, blues, yellows and green. weird looking but great colors hey it yeah they don't resemble a uh a dolphin at all so i don't know why were you like uh yeah there's the cops these beautiful fish were you yeah were you crying like homer and the simpsons when he had to eat the pig after it was the family pet for a while but it was just so damn
Starting point is 00:04:33 delicious it's like oh that mahi mahi it's so beautiful what a beautiful fit more please just so delicious just so delicious it really is though that that might be one of the best because it's a white faith. It's hard to beat Mahi Mahi. Ten years ago, we caught a pair of them. Fresh down here. Like an hour off the Pacific coast of Mexico down by Zawat, Neho, and it was unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:04:57 I couldn't, it was like, first off, they don't look like anything else, and then you try it. You're like, pooh, do this every day, for sure. No, it's a nice eating fish, absolutely. Bring that in, have the chef grill it up, wherever you're staying. Eat the fishers.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Did you, could you believe they had a stuffed a stuffed walleye in the whales rib. I don't know that I'd ever noticed that before. I'm not sure you guys saw it on the video. No, I saw it for sure. I saw it because I said, is that a walla? What's the nearest body of water that would have walleye in it? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Like Lake Okeechobee wouldn't have it. They've got those, I don't think, anyway. But you would go north. Northeastern U.S. would have walleye. wouldn't be that far. I mean, the Great Lakes do for sure. So I guess somebody could have
Starting point is 00:05:52 hauled it down from up there. Someone that owns a place or something. How about that? Somewhere else, maybe. What's going on in Calgary? I was just going to say, I guess for some fishermen,
Starting point is 00:06:05 if you're an avid fisherman, you might like to come, if you were to come to Canada, you'd be wanting to fish for, for a while. I suppose so. I suppose. What's happening in Calgary?
Starting point is 00:06:16 Yeah. It's beauty, right? It's a little bit chilly today. but we're getting warm. We're getting well, what, well above zero here in a couple days and for a few days. Yeah, I think tonight's going to get chilly and then above zero. Last chance to flood red for a while here.
Starting point is 00:06:30 We've got to get another coat down. Oddly enough, I'm sitting in a hotel room in South Florida and a Sutter walks by this morning. What did you chat with? It's one of those twins. Richie. Love Richie. Yeah, down here. Yeah, it is tough.
Starting point is 00:06:50 How's he feeling? He got his hip done, I want to say, last summer. Yeah. Hip, last spring he got it done. I think he's doing pretty good, actually. Well, I'm glad he's down there. He missed golf season. His kid is in Saskatoon,
Starting point is 00:07:06 working for the Sabres, scouting for the Sabres. No way. Small world. I'll tell you what else is happening in Calgary, Reddard is here tonight, and there's a thought the Saddleham could be sold out. they've opened up the 300s already and I don't know how much of the 300s
Starting point is 00:07:25 they've opened but there appears to be almost nothing on Ticketmaster so some WHL people are rather excited that it could be a capacity crowd of 19 plus potentially for Baderd night against the Hitman isn't that some selling tickets well that's good I guess
Starting point is 00:07:42 make some dough for the hitman bring some people in get to see them before it becomes too expensive to go see him is that the thought last chance to see him for 20 bucks potentially, I guess. Maybe they could bless us with a playoff series. We'll see. You guys going?
Starting point is 00:08:00 Yeah. No. Yeah. Doesn't look like you're going to say. No, I'm here. I'm good. Yeah, I'm here. Yeah, a big huge Pats fan.
Starting point is 00:08:13 You must hate the Pats. What happened? You got some vitriol your way yesterday for wearing some Saskatoon Raiders shirt. Give us the background. I was talking about bandits on the mention. Why were people upset with that? Yeah, the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:08:28 I actually saw those shirts on some Twitter feed. Well, it's the Monday Nooners. These guys do a podcast in Saskatchewan. And they were selling old. Because in Saskatoon, when I grew up, you were in a zone, right? Like Bow Valley or Trails West, you were in a zone. And Zone D was the Raiders. And that was the zone I was in.
Starting point is 00:08:52 And so there's the knights and the barons, the bobcats, the red wings, the flyers, all the different zones. And these guys had all the shirts from every different zone. Mama Bear got me one for Christmas. The Raiders, beautiful, just the beautiful maroon and gold. Lovely, lovely. Great teams always dominated the city championships in and about Saskatoon and a real first-class organization. yeah it really it seemed like a lot of people really agreed with you there wasn't any contention there well so what would
Starting point is 00:09:28 was there the blazers like what were the other teams that would uh that would have had a problem with that uh bullshit you're spread in there no the blazers were midget triple a them in the context or the two so that was path that was when you advanced in the world so the raiders was from like timbits and up so i don't even know if the raiders exist anymore to be quite honest with it. It might be all new teams. But yeah, some heated debates that Brennan, the Barons were terrible.
Starting point is 00:10:00 They were terrible. Jeremy Stasia and Trevor Ethier and guys like that. Awful. And the Knights had the Hayden Broys and Derek Deiner, some old skids. They weren't very good either, but they liked to, the Knights tried to play tough. They tried to play tough. Two of them in. Steve Ellis from the Red Wings.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Yeah. Memories. These are some really, really, really poor name drops. Heavy hitters. Yeah, really shitty name drops. Waiting for this to go viral. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:38 So you are playing. You're on the ice today. When is the last time? Is that confirmed? So it's the Florida Panthers alumni versus NHL alumni in advance of the All-Star, the big All-Star? weekend. This is part of the official festivities. Tinkleberry got you brought in. He got you on board. Are you playing in this game?
Starting point is 00:10:59 I'm supposed to play in this game. I've brought my skates, but I don't have any other equipment, right? I don't have, no. I don't think I have any equipment anywhere in the world that's mine that would fit. I've got a bag in my garage in Calgary that has my last year I wore for the flames, but there's no way I'd squeeze into that. So if there's equipment down there for me and a cup, I'll be good to go. Do I need a cup? Who else? Yeah, yeah. Who else is playing in this game that you know of so far for the Panthers? Oh, just huge names. Just big, big name people.
Starting point is 00:11:39 The Marquis all in the same guys. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's kind of the same name drops as they just had. Big Peter Worrell. Big Peter Worrell. I said Peter Worrell was playing and my kids were like, isn't that the guy to beat you up, Dad? I'm like, yeah, yeah, shut up.
Starting point is 00:11:56 So Peter Worell, Billy Lindsay will be there. No, I played with him. Ray Shepard, one of his best hands to ever play in the game. Ray Shepard's playing. But there's a lot of guys I don't know, names that you'd recognize, but certainly I have no, they were after I was playing. Have El Burray.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Is a, I was going to say, is Pavel Burray perhaps playing or Beezer? Anders Erickson. Bubba. Bobble will be a. Roberto, Roberto Luo. His number is in the rafters, I believe. Is Roberto Luongo play? It looked like his name was on the list, but the last list I saw, I didn't see.
Starting point is 00:12:40 That's his name. So he may have, he may have eliminated himself. I don't know. I think you're worried because, you know, Fitzpatrick would be tending net? no Fitsy will not be in the in the pipe so that would have been good Todd Simpson he's on my Blades chat and he was a little his nose is out of joint it's a little bent he tried to get in on this and Tinkler said yeah yeah I got it I'm gonna I'll make it happen and then poof that was it never heard from him again friggin Tinkler
Starting point is 00:13:15 friggin Tinkler you can't trust them I feel like Brett's not the only one working through injuries here, Dino. I think he's very, very concerned about his shoulders and how he's going to hold up. Is that not everyone that is going to be playing tonight? I don't feel like you're the outlier, retro. I think the NHL alumni squad has a younger
Starting point is 00:13:33 group, and I'm hopeful to get in about three shifts and not injure myself. That's all I need. I want to step on the ice once or twice. That's probably enough. I was actually quite nervous about it when I thought it was going to be a bigger bigger named lineup, I guess.
Starting point is 00:13:51 I was kind of nervous about it because I'm like, oh, I could really embarrass myself. But if Ray Shepherd's playing, I'm convinced I can keep up. So what about on the other side? Yeah, right. So on the other side, it's NHL alumni. So who's on this squad?
Starting point is 00:14:09 Any ideas? The man with the most NHL games ever played is playing, Mr. Marlow. Patrick Marlow. Good Sasker, aneroid. You need gear sign for, Ferdino? Make sure you get an autograph for Dean from Marlowe.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Yeah, I think that there's a Turgeon plane. Again, the list of all wonderful people, but I wouldn't call it a Tersian. A Tersian. A whole of fame lineup. Let's hope it's Pierre and not Silvan, the former whaler. Now, but you said they're playing it at a rink where there's not even stands. So what is this a...
Starting point is 00:14:50 Well, I don't know. Who's this for? It's at the ice den, which is the practice rink. And I've been in it. I just don't remember there being a lot of stands in the rink. I hardly, I mean, we practiced there a little bit. The last year I was playing here in 99, but I don't think it's meant to host or hold a couple thousand people.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Now, I don't expect there'll be that many showing up, but they're going to be a lot of friends and family. Okay, I'm just going to buy myself a bit of time here because I have found not only your roster, but the roster of who you're playing. So I'm going to ship this off to Alex, and we'll see,
Starting point is 00:15:36 because I want you to see this list of names. Is there a Turgeon in there? Is he right? Well, you know what? For all of us, for all of us to enjoy. really take a lot of full mode i think it's when you announce this list it's a who's who's who for sure you're right i have been uh i've been a hockey fan for a lot of years i'm an old guy now and
Starting point is 00:16:00 i hockey cards collected them as a young kid and i've worked in the media so i've kind of followed the rosters there's at least one guy on this florida team i've never heard of maybe two yeah maybe two players that i've never heard of before in my life And on the other side, yeah, it's, who, they play. I wouldn't be nervous. Yeah, Rhett, I wouldn't be nervous because allegedly they've played. There is a Turgeon on the other side. There is, man, Sean Hines.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Sean Hines. No, I didn't play with that, Sean Hines. It was a different one. H-E-I-N-S, correct? That's right. Yeah. There was Steve Hines who played for the Bruins. And there's a Calgary guy with Y, but he never got to Florida.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Yeah. Peter Worell is there, as you mentioned. One of the bigger names that you didn't bring up, maybe you didn't know, Brian McCabe. Oh, nice. Well, I knew. I just didn't know if he was a big name. He's a good name. He's a Calgary guy, too.
Starting point is 00:17:20 David Amma. So there you have it. The booth, the booth, the booth is on fire. Brian Boyle, not far removed from the NHL. David Emma, no clue. And no disres, hey, no disrespect to the Emmas. Sure he's Dave's a great guy. Don't know who he are.
Starting point is 00:17:39 There's Bubba Anders Erickson, Thomas Fleischman, former Moose Jaw Warrior. Played on the same line with Dustin Boyd and Brower, I believe. Billy Lindsay, your buddy, Roberto Luongo, Brian McCabe, Serge Pai-A, Payer, Paye. Paya. Pia. Piae. Danny, any relation to Danny, Paiet? Ray Shepard, Dennis Schwedkey.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Good name. Was a highly touted prospect at one point. Voitek Wolsky. Yes. Peter Mare. Heath Yandel. There's a real Iron Man. Yeah. And then, of course, Red Warner.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Yeah, Yandel and Boyle are going to carry this team. There it is. Yeah. And do you know what number you'll be wearing? I don't see enough people either. Yeah, that's a tight bench there. How many lines do we have? That's a short bench.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Like, how much ice time am I going to get? I think it's only an hour game. Yeah. Looks like three lines, two pairs. Now on the other side, yeah, there's something there. Take an oxygen tank. So on the other side, the NHL alumni, All the other teams got together to send their best.
Starting point is 00:18:54 It's like an All-Star team. To take on this Panthers alumni team. It's a really, it is an all-star team. Do you get paid to do this? Are you getting dough? I certainly have not. Yet. On the other side, a former flame first round pick.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Rico Feta. No. Eric Nystrom. Okay. The Nyga. Oh, nice, that's right. I have told that story. I remember you yelling at him in the locker room one day when he was young for not picking up pox or something.
Starting point is 00:19:30 So you can renew acquaintances with Eric Nystrom. Keep your head up. Darius Casperitis. We'll be out there. Just laying the, hey, taking out knees, laying bonds. Only one way to play. Patrick Marlow, as you mentioned. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Sylvan Lefebvre, the former Leaf. Pierre Turgeon, Peter Shastlevy, Henrik Samuelson, Tuomo Routu, Dan Quinn, Alexei Ponikarovsky, Joni. Jeff Chikrin, Ryan Kloh, Trevor Daly, Paul Healy, Sean Hines. I thought there'd be a different, let's just say a different kind of list, being that it's in Florida. I thought that it would be enticing for guys to go down to Florida. Well, until they know what that revenue split is, right? I mean, they've got to sell all these tickets and split.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Who's to say? I mean, without a firm number, going to be tough. I also know for fact that there are some Hall of Fame guys down here. Yeah. But I think they're going on a boat cruise with some sponsors. This is where you're needed, Rhett, right here in this game today. I think it's, so have your kids seen you play? hockey? No. Because even your oldest would not have seen you play. It would have been too young.
Starting point is 00:21:00 No. So this is a very nice kind of a moment for you as a father and for your kids to be on NHL ice with former NHLers. This is kind of cool. I'm kind of not taking the shit out of you. I'm kind of being honest. This is kind of neat for you. No, and that was the reason that everybody came down was for that. That's that. Well, what the heck? Bring everybody they can see how embarrassing I am out there. They actually were talking about making signs yesterday. Some along the lines is, please don't make my dad turn. Don't hurt my dad. My dad's really slow, kind of, that sort of thing. They thought they're hilarious.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Dad, don't die. Don't make my dad turn. Who's got the AED paddles? They can be busy tonight. Oh, that's pretty good. That's pretty good, man. Well, I'm happy that I'm happy you're down there. I'm happy that you got your kids there.
Starting point is 00:22:00 You'll do great. You'll do great. Yes. He's got, again, Conroy said it. It was your reach and your angles. Those are your best friends. Stay, know your game. Right?
Starting point is 00:22:11 I can't try it all the time for those guys. I just got to play my game. I got to play my game. Yeah. I can't let my emotions and excitement and enthusiasm get the best of me. And that'll drag me out of position. I got a really man. manage my emotions.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Stick within myself and my game. If Ryan, Clow and Darius Casperius are playing their game, look the hell out. There's some big boys on that other roster. I've hit from Clove a lot. So then you're on this, and then you turn into what,
Starting point is 00:22:46 full-time dad because you're down there for your kids hockey tournament, right? Yeah, then we got games. Well, it's awesome. They arrange these games. In one hand, it is funny or good. The other hand, it's terrible. We play one game on Thursday and one game on Friday.
Starting point is 00:23:03 And then another game is Saturday, and then depending how you do, you move on. But it's good that the kids get to miss school and travel to Florida to play one game on each day. We'll spend some money in the hotel. One game a day. Perfect. Yeah. This is an economic stimulus package here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:21 That's awesome. All right, buddy. Well, I'm happy for you. I'm not worried. You're going to do great. You'll be fine. And heads up. I'm going to be looking for video, combing the internet for all the video we can find if it exists. Let's get the shovel on that.
Starting point is 00:23:39 Because I'm dying for it. Yeah, we need it for sure. And we have Scott Rintel coming on. He's joining us in about 15 minutes to talk about the West Coast Express. Your name came up multiple times in the dozens of interviews he did about Naslin, Bertuzi, and Morrison. So there'll be some ret presence and drops, even while you're off-sunning yourself on the beach here later in the show.
Starting point is 00:24:06 I don't have anything to do with those guys other than letting Morrison score and triple overtime in game six. Didn't you bust someone's leg before that in Buffalo? That was one of the tie-ins, I thought. You and McKee? He's got it for us anyway. We heard so many. We were so tough.
Starting point is 00:24:25 That's hard to keep it. all together. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Twin Towers. What's the meal plan for the rest of the day? Because I know you don't just got, oh, we'll just pick up something maybe along the way.
Starting point is 00:24:35 You will have it figured all out. Well, I think we're going to cruise over to shooters, which is on the intercoastal. We ate there two years ago when we were down here. It's about a $500 sushi meal. They've got some just phenomenal. But Ryan, what are you going to do? What are you going to do? Hey, I'm not, Rhett.
Starting point is 00:24:54 If I'm you, I'm doing that. kids are can I get one more absolutely what was that crab place something trap booby trap what was that you can go there what was that better place yeah the snapper at that place wasn't it yeah well booby trap yes my kids wanted to stop in there too yeah it's florida you can do anything you want all right retro we'll uh all right we'll uh all right i'll hopefully talk to tomorrow enjoy it hosted yes all right good luck today hey For better, Beau. Bye-bye. Yeah, seriously.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Yeah, thanks. Bye now. There's Rhett Warner down in FLA. He's happy. With all that gorgeous sunshine. That's right. Well, of course he is. Who wouldn't be? He's living his best life.
Starting point is 00:25:38 To your point, even more confusing that you would move to that country and Buffalo's winter. That's what you chose. All the different climates and ecosystems and regions, Buffalo's winter and falls is what you've selected. Odd. Kind of is. Hey, did you know it's February? It is February. That's right.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Don't you say something jerky? It just happened over the month. What do you say? Rabbit, rabbit. Rabbit, rabbit? I didn't say, but it has to be the first thing you say. The first, like right after, so it's too late. We, the other day, we had a very high level meeting, didn't we on Monday? I felt we were out of place there.
Starting point is 00:26:24 as dressy as we get yeah yeah you know we got uh we kind of got dressed up probably just could have gone as we were went to see and visit the folks over at mccloud law one of our new sponsors here on barn burner went to uh you know rub elbows with uh some important people yeah and once again we have found good people and it sounds like we're making this bleep up all the time but just talking with people in jasper it's like one of the first people on was and everybody from Tower and how great they are. And Greg Keller from Bonton meets, he's been one of our guys forever. And you just go down the line.
Starting point is 00:27:00 We've got Schaman from Hope Street and everybody, just good quality people. And to meet up with Tammy and Austin and Peter the other day at McLeod Law, it was not what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be fairly, well, here's what we do. And don't pay attention to the high-kicking dummy from the weekend, those videos he saw. These are Calgary people doing things for Calgary people. I don't know. You just think law firm and there's lots of people and it's stuffy, but they like us, I think, are just kind of doing things for the right reasons or at least trying and taking care of themselves in the best way they know how. They're good folks. And I know that I think maybe you don't, I don't know. I've been fortunate. I haven't had to do a lot with lawyers or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:27:47 But I think they have a certain connotation. But I would not have picked these guys out of a lineup to be lawyers. So we're pumped to have them on board. They're going to be a part of what we're doing here. Peter Klein, not that Peter Klein. He was actually Peter was saying, I told a story on the show a few weeks ago about the other Peter Klein who I worked with at the radio station and we got into the story.
Starting point is 00:28:09 And apparently this Peter Klein got some messaging and texts about the story from that Peter Klein. So there will be some possible confusion. This Peter Klein, great guy, professional. If you dealing with personal injury, you know, disability insurer trying to run your out. This is the Peter Klein you need to talk to. Yeah, if it's wrestling questions.
Starting point is 00:28:30 403, 254. Yeah, 30, 37. Don't go to this Peter Klein asking about Sammy Zane and the Royal Rumble. No, no, Roman Raines. If you have any iron sheet questions, the other, the other people client. This one, if you are having issue with an insurer, screwy. Peter Klein.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Okay. That's right. Their website, macloud dash law. They're on all of the social media's. Just go for, go look at McLeodlaw LLC. And we're going to do some different things with them. You see there, the injury report, injury report, obviously with personal injury and that, it's a bit of a tie-in.
Starting point is 00:29:06 But also they started with two people years and years ago, and they've built into a huge successful business now, but they're still caring about Calgarians. They're very much in the fabric of our city. And love, love the stamps, love the flames, love the sporting community. and we're just going to, depending on the day, if something comes up through the week, it's like, that was an interesting day in sports history. Well, we'll go back and celebrate. Now, you found one this morning.
Starting point is 00:29:33 And it's a great tie in for our first sort of memory lane, if you want to call it. Sure. Well. It's really something. If you're not following Flames Nation on socials and visiting the website, you're missing out because they're doing a lot of gold mining here on, you know, anniversaries of events, I believe yesterday was the Dionne trade. They had some pro-set 1990 all-star cards of Newendike and Mullen and Vernon and
Starting point is 00:30:00 others, McKinnis from back in the day earlier this week. But today happens to be 1st of February, which we always ring in the month of February, Dean, with a scrap between goaltenders at Center Ice and the Battle of Alberta, don't we? Isn't that how it goes? Yeah. What was your immediate thought when you see, Smith come to the red line.
Starting point is 00:30:21 It's fucking happening. This is happening. This is happening. Oh, it's going to happen. Yeah. Jackie actually does well. I wasn't sure that it was the best thing for No,
Starting point is 00:30:34 give me credit. But you have to admire the spirit. The dome was alive that night. Upside down. I threw this in a group chat today and some oil fans had the videos from their seats. This was, uh,
Starting point is 00:30:50 who, I, I feel like we talked about this rivalry. Oh, it's going to be back. It's going to be back. This was the night the rivalry really was back. Then he goes to Edmonton. The next year you play in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Now it's like these are all epic. Anytime they meet, it's the hottest ticket of the year. My guess is, Cam Talbot, not a lot of scrap and growing up. Doesn't look like a black belt there, does he? Plenty. Yeah. Gives up some size for sure. No, not so much.
Starting point is 00:31:18 But that was, now what, sorry you put you on the spot. What year was that? How far back? It would have been two seasons ago, if I'm correct, guys. I guess there's that pandemic year kind of messed things up. I was in the tweet. I should have tweeted that today. But it could be more than.
Starting point is 00:31:32 The Lord was on the ice. That's my fault. I shouldn't have put you on there. No, so it was two Mike Smith years. And this year without Mike Smith. So it would have been 2020, 2019, I would suggest, 2020. 2019. Yeah, it'd have to be pre. There's crowd there.
Starting point is 00:31:47 Yeah. McLeod law. Yeah. McLeod dash law.com. All over Instagram, Facebook. Twitter and social media. Also online for Peter Klein, you can email direct to to his office. P. Klein, it's C-L-I-N-E-P-Kline at MacLeoddashlaw.com and go to the website and you'll find that.
Starting point is 00:32:07 You'll also see a very dashing. The photos there. Austin Palado. The suit he had earlier this week. Very impressive stuff. I know. Yeah. I was like, okay, now what's this model doing here? I see.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Real quick, too. If you're in a spot where you need legal help and all of that, those are the people you can trust. So we'll be doing an injury report once a week. We'll have a heads up on some of the changes to the All-Star roster. Dean, there's been a lot of substitutions. There's been trades, guys in and out. So we'll get you up to speed with that tomorrow. And then once a week, just a random excuse to have some good old Flames nostalgia.
Starting point is 00:32:42 They've been in the town and working in the community for a long time and like to revisit these great Flames memories as Flames fans. That was a good one. I often see goalie fights at Center Ice and a line. Not today's NHL. Not so much. Please be joined by our next guest. He, like so many,
Starting point is 00:33:01 all the cool kids are doing it, getting out of mainstream boring media and getting into the digital space and having fun again to hell with mainstream media. Let's go podcast. There's Scott Rintool,
Starting point is 00:33:14 Vancouver Sports Media Legend. Scott! Good, buddy. Look at you. Always good. He's a runner. Look at you. How is it? We're good. We're good. Reunion to her, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:33:25 This kind of, yeah. You followed the nine for a while there, Scotty. It was, I enjoyed my commutes, my extremely tired, don't veer into the ditch, drives back from work every morning. Do you miss waking up at 1,000 in the morning, Scotty? Oh, yeah, really miss that. Really miss that. I've got two kids, so sometimes it happens anyway,
Starting point is 00:33:48 but at least it's not prescribed like it used to be. Yeah, fair enough. Yeah. It's not obviously, I'm just more curious than anything else, but we know how the media thing works. We were still at Sportsnet. I think that you were involved in one of those waves where we're making changes. And so take us from leaving SportsNet to where you are now, which has got to be something so fulfilling and so exciting for you, as the next chapter of your life unfolds.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Well, and as you guys have gone through already, boom, you kind of contemplate doing whole bunch of different things and there are opportunities and you guys have taken one which is super exciting. I love what you guys are doing to do something similar, all be it in a different manner and call your own shots like you guys are doing. And I had opportunities like that, but I kind of wanted to take a year and try a few different things. And this is one of the things I wanted to try. Digging my teeth into something a little more long form, long form storytelling. I think doing what we do, we get to hear great stories. And there's so many times we leave interviews and we're like, I wish I could do more of that. I wish I could have a little bit.
Starting point is 00:34:52 it longer conversation, but the format doesn't always allow for it. This format does. So I figured, why not shoot my shot and try telling a longer form story? And I've loved the process so far. The West Coast Express. Obviously, people in Western Canada and Vancouver and obviously in Calgary because they had to deal with it on a steady basis. But I guess tell us about how you came to that decision.
Starting point is 00:35:16 And that, that's the topic that I want to sink my teeth into, as you said, the West Coast Express and then how receptive were those guys at the idea of doing something long form with you, of all people. Exactly. With me of all people, I think is where it starts. Yeah, it's just a great story to begin with. And you guys have been around this long enough to know one when you see one. And this is a great story.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Just on the surface, three players from different organizations acquired by three different GMs who wind up in the same place and somehow become arguably the NHL's best line for a short period of time, that doesn't happen. If you have one player like the guy Marcus Naslin became or the guy Todd Bertuzi became, you don't let those guys go. So that's just on the surface. But there's so much more to the story being the team that really pulled the Canucks out of the ditch. People weren't going to games in the late 90s. There was chaos in the organization. And this was the face of the franchise that pulled them out of that. And they were a fun team to watch. It's so easy now because the hockey so entertaining and we see goals all the time, we see comebacks.
Starting point is 00:36:21 It's so easy to forget that dead puck era, how boring most of the hockey was. But this was one of the few teams that wasn't. This was a team that played exciting hockey. They played it on a nightly basis. Yeah, it was flawed sometimes, but it was fun. And it was during an era that wasn't very fun. So that's the great story part of it. And as you guys know, there's some unforgettable moments for this line and in this story,
Starting point is 00:36:45 whether their playoff defeats at the hands of like the Calgary Flames. in 2004 or the Minnesota Wild or the Detroit Red Wings. Like you can run down the list. A lot of teams losing the playoffs, but not all of them losing the way that this team found a way to lose. So there's that part of it. And then getting those guys on board wasn't as hard as I thought. I kind of wondered at the beginning,
Starting point is 00:37:06 well, they want to do this? Do they want to revisit the history? And I called Marcus and he was happy to do a long interview. And because of that, I called Todd and said, well, I talked to Marcus. Would you be okay with it? And he was happy to do it. And Brendan, as you guys know, is the easiest guy.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Yeah, sure. He's so easy going. I knew Brendan was going to be in. And then once that happened, Berkey was in. Mark Crawford, Ed Jovanoski, the Sadeens. Everybody was happy to have a conversation. So I want to jump in at 04. And I don't know where that necessarily falls in that linear existence of the West Coast Express.
Starting point is 00:37:40 But it was clear that this is one of the top lines in the NHL. The flames had that breakout Cinderella year. Daryl's first year as head coach. they find Mika Kiprasoff, but they were still going to be huge underdogs against the Canucks. You had noted before we got on the air and we were setting this up, Rhett had some tie-ins to the story along the line, even before 04, but I just recall thinking, like, what a break it was for the flames, that the Todd Bertuzi incident happened when it did, and that maybe when we look back on 04, we don't really remember that as much as we should have.
Starting point is 00:38:10 It was not a fully, you know, well-rested, healthy, all-available Vancouver Canucks group that they faced in that incredibly dramatic opening round. No, and you're talking about one of the most dominant players in the league at that time. And we all know the incident that rendered him suspended for the rest of that season and ultimately the lockout season as well. But it was a different team. And the other part is that incident happened the day before the trade deadline. So they had to scramble and try to bring guys in.
Starting point is 00:38:39 And they got Marty Ruchinsky and Jeff Sanderson. They brought a few guys in to see if they could patch the holes. And they were still a good team. they still thought they could make a run. But as you guys know in that series, it was such an epic first round series. Rhett was actually the guy, I think, that drew the penalty on Jovanowski. They put him in the penalty box at the very end. And people will remember the shot of Jovo pounding on the glass after Matt Cook scored that
Starting point is 00:39:04 tying goal with barely any time on the clock. And then he was still in the penalty box in overtime when Marty Schelling had got the winner. But you're right, they weren't fully healthy. They lost two goalies during that round as well. but that's the playoffs and that's how she breaks. Yeah. It's funny you mentioned it coming in that, sorry, right, I was going to say because I wanted to look back and remember that trade as to how Todd Bertuzi became a Vancouver, Canock. You'll see sometimes it's not the same level, but Gretzky Curry, those guys drafted by the oilers, a lot of time.
Starting point is 00:39:35 That's homegrown talent. They've played together in the American League and they've come up together, whatever. Those, they were all just brought into place. Everyone remembers Alex Stoyanov, right? What a terrible deal that. was great for Vancouver as Nazlin comes in. Brendan Morrison, New Jersey Devil. We've heard the Berkey story he needed to get out.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Or if you don't want to play, you know, that whole thing at the end of his career. But you wonder sometimes you hear a lot about chemistry and how it comes to be. You think in the end it's just natural. You put those three together. But those three guys would have played on separate lines for a while. Over the course of putting this together and from your own memory banks, how did that all start to work? Was it kind of an instant thing for those three? guys or did it take a little bit of time for that West Coast Express to become a thing?
Starting point is 00:40:20 It took quite a while. Marcus Naslin came in from Pittsburgh, as you mentioned, great deal, arguably the best in the history of the Vancouver Canucks for Alex Stoianoff. And he was coming off a Penguins team that had Lemieux and Yager and it should work there for a skilled player, but it hadn't. He came in and it wasn't instant for Marcus Naslin either. He wasn't sure where he fit in the Canucks organization. And at one point, almost asked out. I almost asked out and Berkey stopped him and said, don't say what I think you're going to say because if you ask to be traded, I'm going to trade you. So don't say it.
Starting point is 00:40:51 We're going to keep you for a while and get back out there and get to work as the Cole's notes on that. Berkey tells it a lot better than I do. Then Todd Bertuzzi comes in. It's on the, it's the Trevor Lyndon deal. Like big pressure for him coming in, but he was just so relieved to be at a different place where they weren't expecting him to be Clark Gillies. Like that's who they thought he was going to be. Mike Milbury wanted him to be Clark Gillies.
Starting point is 00:41:13 and run rough shot over people all the time. And he wanted to be more of a skill guy and use his size when he chose to use it. And so he comes in, he starts playing on a line with Messia. It's going pretty well, but then he gets a couple of injuries. And by the time he kind of gets back and gets going, well, Messi is on his way out. He's figuring things out. They get a little chemistry with Nazland. They're playing with another former flame when they bring him in, Andrew Castles.
Starting point is 00:41:38 So they bring Castles in underrated centerment for sure. they've got great chemistry, but all of a sudden, Mark Cropper decides to put Brendan Morrison in there in his second season with the Canucks. And it was basically just to give the line a different look. And what they found is it had more speed all of a sudden. Castles was very good, but he wasn't fleet of foot. Awesome passer. But Brendan could get back through the defensive work,
Starting point is 00:42:01 and he could get up in the rush. And so that unlocked the rush game of the West Coast Express. They could create more skating than they could have more of that half-court offense, if you will, with Andrew Castles. Wild. And you said there was a time with Rhett back to Buffalo. Can you can you, you said his name came up a couple times when you did these dozens of interviews for building this West Coast Express, I guess, what would you call it, docus series? Yeah, that's what I would call it. And Rhett's name did come up. So there the Canucks are.
Starting point is 00:42:29 They've been out of the playoffs for half a decade. They're trending back in Naslin's, one of the premier scorers in the league at the time. He's got 41 goals. 10 games to go in the regular season. Looks like they're finally going to get back into the playoffs. and he breaks his leg in Buffalo because of a hit from Rhett Warner and Jay McKee. They sandwiched him and he went awkwardly into the boards and broke his leg and he was done. Yeah, we had Red on a little bit earlier. He was saying, that doesn't surprise him because it doesn't surprise him because they're just so tough. He's so tough.
Starting point is 00:42:58 Which guys likes that we break? It's one of any. Yeah. Huge less. Just so many guys. So how, I guess how long or how much content is there? for listeners to consume and how long did it take you
Starting point is 00:43:13 to put it together to build this thing and then what's the editing process like? Because I know that's always hard. What belongs, what doesn't belong, and what's too much? That's got to be a bit of a challenge. How'd to have been a challenge for you? Yeah, and it's not completed yet.
Starting point is 00:43:27 I'm still in the midst of completing the last couple of episodes, so it remains a challenge, boom. But it took a long time. It took me a better part of a year to compile all the interviews because I had other gigs going on at the time. tried different podcasts, tried teaching as well.
Starting point is 00:43:43 And so I've been kind of doing this on the side and figuring it was going to come to a point where I could put it all together. So the hardest part is sifting through it and going, I don't know if we can use that. It's really good, but I don't know if it fits with the story. And hey, this is my first time doing it. Hopefully I'm getting it right. There's a couple of episodes out there right now. They dropped yesterday. It's available on Apple, Spotify, Google, wherever you find your podcast or you can go to unreal sports.com.
Starting point is 00:44:09 that's unreal with two E's. Morrison will like that because he's a fishing guy. But yeah, it's been a lot of fun. There's going to be nine episodes total, and this is going to go for a while. It's probably going to end up being a total of, I don't know, six, seven hours of listening content. And you say what, every Friday you're dropping a new one? That's kind of a plan, two out already. Yeah. Yeah, two out already. I want to give people a few days to consume them. As you guys know, not everybody jumps on it right away. People maybe need the weekend or they don't hear about it right away. So I want to get people an opportunity to consume the first couple of episodes before we
Starting point is 00:44:41 release the next one on February 10th and then every Friday after that. I'm curious how you wrap it up. That's awesome. I'm happy. Sorry, I was just going to say, does that, is that the last docu series? Or is this just now, you know, this is built a fire now. And now what's the next one for Scott Rintoole? Yeah, it's a good question. I've considered a whole bunch of other stories. I've got to get through this one first, but I really do like the process. Boom. It's, it's super fun. and super rewarding to dig into longer form interviews, even though you don't use a bunch of the stuff, just that conversation you get to have,
Starting point is 00:45:16 open people up to telling you stories you haven't heard, memories that get jogged along the way. I've really enjoyed it. And the other thing I think is that we're living in this time right now, and you guys know this, if you don't win a championship, people think it wasn't worth it. But we all come from a time
Starting point is 00:45:30 when we know that there are so many more stories than that. And if it's only worth it for one team, well, we're leaving out way too much stuff. So I want to help tell some of those stories that maybe aren't celebrated as much and aren't investigated as much. Well, and so that's where I want to jump in. So I felt like the lockout couldn't have come at a worst time for the Calgary Flames. The Cup finalists, all of a sudden everyone misses the whole next season. Rett goes to get stoned in Australia and gets fat or whatever.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Like it wasn't ideal for everyone, right? Was that the end of that line in a sense? Was that bad as bad the timing for the Canucks as it felt like it was for the flames, where they kind of just whatever they had was lost? It's hard to say because would Bertuzi been suspended for that whole next season or not? It was convenient in a sense for the NHL. They had the open-ended suspension. Would he have been suspended for another full season or would he have come back in 2004, 2005?
Starting point is 00:46:29 It's anybody's guess right now. Maybe only Gary Bettman has the answer. But it's funny because they changed all the rules. And the perception at the time was, okay, they're going to come back in 0.5. 506 and now nobody can impede this line. Yeah. They're going to destroy everyone. Like they've been arguably the top line in the league already, but that's with holding and
Starting point is 00:46:47 hooking and clutching and grabbing. Who's going to slow these guys down? And they weren't quite the same. Yeah. They weren't the same players. Part of that was the burden of carrying around what had happened in 2004 and getting asked about it everywhere. Part of it was new rules.
Starting point is 00:47:01 Part of it was probably you're not playing together either. And they actually had a decent season. overall, but it was nowhere near the high standard that they'd set for themselves where they were a couple of the top scores in the league in Naslin and Bertuzi's case. And I think your next miniseries should be the arrow that followed when the Siddines, you know, they were under studies for a bit after under that line. And then we know how that one went all the way to the final, a couple of presidents trophies. It really was a bridge from the darkest of times to arguably the best of times to the franchise. That's kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Yeah, you're right about that. And it's funny because Daniel and Hendricks say the same thing. I think everybody knows if you look at their history or even saw them when they first broke into the league. They weren't ready for the NHL. But skill-wise, they wanted to acclimate to the National Hockey League. And Mark Crawford wanted to get them there. But they had the West Coast Express to kind of take the burden and take the spotlight. Like, if you're two and three overall and your twin brothers, you're supposed to come in and save the franchise. And they didn't have to do that right away.
Starting point is 00:48:00 And they weren't capable of doing it right away, quite frankly. But it's that year that you guys were just talking about 0-5-0-0-06. where they kind of took the torch and it looked like they were going to be the best players on the team, which they ultimately were for quite some time after that. Congrats, man. That is, again, I'm jealous.
Starting point is 00:48:17 I'm very interested. I've had a chat. I'd listen to a little bit of it. It's great. I think that there's what we're doing. And then I think there's what you have done already and continue to do. And I think that that's,
Starting point is 00:48:29 I guess Ryan's laughing. I just, we're still kind of doing, we're doing the same thing we did on the radio. We're just doing it here. Whereas for you, this is a bit of a departure. It's part, you know, part author. You're still a broadcaster, that whole thing. And I think that's the way it's going. Is that long form evergreen type of stuff? You can listen to it today. You can listen to it in five years from today. And it's going to have that same impact. So,
Starting point is 00:48:53 well done. Congrats on taking it on. It's a big thing once you're in. Once you do the interviews, like, when's that, when's that thing coming out, Scott? Oh, that thing, any day now. Just any day. You kind of had to do it. So good, good job, man. And I'm happy for you. And I look forward to hearing the rest of it as it comes out. Well, thanks, Booms. I really appreciate it. And I love what you guys are doing as well.
Starting point is 00:49:14 Keep it up. I love that you guys kind of went out on your own and decided to do things your way. And keep up the great work because I'm watching from this side of the Rockies, bud. Thanks, Scotty. Appreciate it. Thanks, Scotty. Congrats, man. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Scott Rintoul, his. West Coast Express. Yeah. Unreal. I guess that's the other co-heading there. And nine part series, one and two are out and look for episodes three through nine to keep dropping out Fridays as we move through. And if you're a Canucks fan or just want to revisit that era that saw that miraculous Flames Run of 04,
Starting point is 00:49:47 there's lots of tie-ins there next time you're in the car for a long haul, Dino, fire on or you're cooking, whatever it is. Go get it. Probably cooking. You'll be cooking. We'll take a quick time out here, like 90 seconds. 90 seconds. Just a quick break. We'll come back.
Starting point is 00:50:02 We'll reset the Pinder Report. We got details on that big football game in a couple weeks. What we're going to do is. 90 seconds. Stay there. coming right back. That's right. Stay there. Stay there. Stay there. All right. We're back. Little Barn burner here on Wednesday, February the first. Wednesday. Wednesday. What's it called Wednesdays that I, uh, makes me think of sauce and sticky fingers. Lots of it though,
Starting point is 00:50:28 right? Delicious, delicious, delicious smoked smoke flavor. Yeah, as much as you want. As much as you want. You start and you just keep going as much. Ah, that's it. Montana's the daily deal. It's Wednesday. All you can eat ribs. Oh, baby. Pork ribs. Goor. Over at Montana's barbecue and bar. They're getting people out of the house. It's the return of the viewing party. Bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your date. Whatever. Just get yourself there. Mondays, half price wings. Tuesdays, they've got the tacos, $5 tacos. Wednesdays, all you can eat ribs. The place to cheer on your favorite team. Have an ice cold beverage. They're the masters of the barbecue, the masters of comfort food.
Starting point is 00:51:11 Smoked, all of it, they're doing all in house. I watched a little thing on the old interwebs there. You don't just show up. What times the restaurant open? If we're open at 11, okay, I'll be there about 10 to 11. We'll unlock the doors and just start. No, no, you got to have, they got the guys in the back. They're smoking it.
Starting point is 00:51:27 They got to get it going. At night, it's ready in the morning. Then you've got to marinate it for a long time. It's what they're doing. Over at Montana's, find the location near a few months. Tanas.ca is the website and today, delicious. All You Can Eat Pork Ribs. I always think about RETs when we talk about All You Can Eat Ribs.
Starting point is 00:51:44 I don't know that really all you can eat anything now that we mention it. I think it was after that one day we went for wings with him and we watched him house like five dozen. Anytime competitive eating, all you can eat. I just, I think of our pal. And I know he's happy in Florida right now. People always kind of say, oh, you'd be having all you can eat or a wing eating content. or whatever. For me, I'm no good at the eating a lot in a short amount of time.
Starting point is 00:52:11 You have spread that sucker out. Let's graze all day. I'm your man. If it's a 24-hour, 48-hour thing and we're going to do the way in at the end, I'll be there. I'll throw my hat in the ring. I'll take my cuts. But if it's a, here's three minutes, like that hot dog eating BS at Coney Island, no. How many hot dogs like that could you eat?
Starting point is 00:52:38 Or period. In one sitting, how many hot dogs would you be able to eat? Like, I'm with you. I don't want to try it. I don't like feeling like I'm rammed. I'd rather just have nine hot dogs over the course of a day than try to do nine and three minutes. I'm with you, buddy.
Starting point is 00:52:53 Like, it's not me. But Rhett is an absolute weapon. He is, it's spooky. It's quite a scene. You could sell tickets to watch it. You should actually. He takes pride in it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:03 I mean, for him, it's a problem. prideful thing. It's a prideful thing. Have you got my audio okay? I feel like you're a little less than perfect, but that's okay. Maybe we're here. Am I? Yeah. No, it's okay. Well, you know, we'll do. Why don't we start the Pender Report? Do you want to do that? All right. Let's do the Pinder Report. Lots of me talking to. Of course. Village Honda.com. The all new CRB hybrid has arrived. Village Honda stop in road tested today.
Starting point is 00:53:28 And say hi to Anthony and, you know, all the people up there, Tanyan, Ping and all those good people. Village Honda, your dealership for life in the Northwest automobile. You take your phone like this too, Dino, and you just put it right up to the screen. You get the QR code right in the corner there. See what's going on, Village Honda. Love that. We'll start in the NHL, Dino. It is still All-Star break for the Calgary Flames.
Starting point is 00:53:52 There is some hockey being played. I suppose the appropriate place to start would be looking at the standings. There was a divisional game last night involving the LA Kings. They did get a point, which doesn't sound ideal, but wait until we explain how, as now the flames are six back with three games in hand on LA. That means win them all in your tide. That's a loss could have been better. But the most likely outcome for this game would have been a King's Rout.
Starting point is 00:54:18 As we go to look at the box score, they were up 4-1 through 40 minutes, only to watch the Canes rally for three in the third and then win it in overtime, including a controversial non-call on what looked to be too many men for the Cains in overtime, followed by a power play overtime goal for the Keynes to win it. They'll be sour Kings fans after watching that one in Carolina last night.
Starting point is 00:54:40 I guess given they were up 4-1, Flames fans probably happy. The Kings only get one, not two points last night. Who scored the overtime winner? Your boy, Sebastian Aho. That's who. Kane's Money Line plus one plus point for Aho Ching. Anytime goal, Aho, Ching. Two for two, baby.
Starting point is 00:55:02 I love a good two for two. We were Keynes minus one and a half on this side, so a narrow miss on that side. We did hit the others, we'll talk about in Betway, because the chuck that looks like the dad, the bigger, stronger one, he had a night as well. Two games tonight, let's take a look at them, and we're right into the All-Star Break.
Starting point is 00:55:20 This is it. Soak it up. If you like hockey, we guys are actually trying, you're screwed until Monday of next week after tonight. Cains and Sabres. How about this? It'll be anti-Ranta, it looks like, in net because it was Freddie Anderson yesterday against the Kings. And Tage Thompson is back in skating with the club after missing, what, I think, a single practice
Starting point is 00:55:39 or two. Bruins and Lees will be a good one. Those are two of the top teams in the league. Never mind that incredibly competitive Atlantic division. Two games, last day before the All-Star break. Let's start them at the same time. Love it, Gary. Great schedule.
Starting point is 00:55:54 Why don't you just stagger one? Just stagger one half an hour. You love it. What do you tell it? Yeah, yeah. Tell me, you can watch it. more hockey. They make it hard. They make it really hard. Some conflicting reports on Columbus Blue Jackets forward Gustav Nyquist as we're hearing he's done for the year, but then hang on.
Starting point is 00:56:19 Maybe he's not done for the year. This is Chris Johnson. Well, hang on now. Maybe he's not done for the year. Could still be a trade chip. This just reeks of Yarmal or Yarko Kekelainen saying, hey, don't say that. I still want to trade this guy. He might be healthy for, you know, the last couple days. That's a shame for a Columbus team that certainly would want to liquidate itself of a lot of players as they're in the old Baderd conversation, very poor and looking to recoup some assets this year in the form of pick. So tough break for the blue jackets there. Would he have been a fit in Calgary, Dean, or could he, if he's healthy? You know, I don't know where I fall in on him. I was a big fan, or at least I was a fan of him.
Starting point is 00:57:03 when he early in his career i don't know i just feel like he's kind of plateaued he feels to me very much like a almost a a yarn croak you get him you will slot him in here he can play in the top nine he can do a lot of things and i feel like he's just going to underwhelm you i which is not to say anything i just don't know that uh that i would be a fan i don't know that he would be a fit here to be quite honest doesn't seem to fit that sutter no kind of identity to me and we don't think we have to worry about that injury as well that makes it all a lot less probable he gets moved. All-Star events do get going right away here. I believe Friday is the big game. Let's have a look at Logan Thompson, the most improbable All-Star maybe of the Mall, Dean, and this helmet.
Starting point is 00:57:47 How good is this? Look at the Flamingo with the skates on. Oh, baby. If that doesn't scream South Beach, All-Star, I don't know what does. And how about the, what, the Calgary Kid? An All-Star with the Golden Knights after Robin Leonard got hurt, flurries out of there, Laurent Pursua. It's been a nightmare trying to get goalies healthy, and this guy hasn't just filled the crease. He's actually played really well. It's hard to go more disco than Vegas. There you go. I think they've done it.
Starting point is 00:58:16 I like it, though. You know what? Have some fun for fuck sakes. Oh, it's gross. Oh, the jerseys are this. It's a frigging All-Star game. Chill, dudes. It might have an All-Star game vibes tonight at the Saddle Gnome Dean
Starting point is 00:58:30 as future All-Star. Connor Bardard is flying through for a regular season tilt between the Pats and the Hitman. This has been on the calendar and circled for many for a while. In fact, I know the Flames and Hitman were doing a lot of marketing of this game around World Junior Time and why not is, I think Badard went from, you know, draft beatniks and hardcore hockey fans into the mainstream conversation.
Starting point is 00:58:55 Here's a tweet suggesting tonight's game might be entirely sold out at the Scotia Bank's album. I'm not saying it is, but this is Scott Wheeler. I don't see any blue dots on that map, which usually indicates, hey, we got some seats to sell. Maybe they've only up in one of the 300s. Maybe it's just below the walkway in the 300s. This is going to be a massive crowd for the Calgary Hitman tonight.
Starting point is 00:59:15 This is going to be Teddy Bear Toss-esque, which is, I think, great for the hitman, great for the players. And, hey, people aren't dummies. This is your last chance, potentially, in a long time to see Connor Bedard for 20 bucks, if not the last time. So go get it. And there's our boys right there, Dino. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:33 Yeah, there they are. Are those your boys? They're going to be on the ice with the pats for the anthem. Somehow, some way. Our savvy managers got us for the anthems. Yeah. That was cold. You're a too.
Starting point is 00:59:46 And son of a gun, aren't you? It was cold there. I was going to say, I think there's a certain part of, you know, the hockey dad, the hockey parent that's going to want to go. How much of this is the young kids? They're jacked. They want to go and see Connor Bedard. And if, right? And if that's the case, how many bad,
Starting point is 01:00:02 Dard jerseys are going to be under Christmas trees come next year. That's amazing. To have a full, a full barn for a non-playoff regular season game against Regina. That's amazing. So it's even more common than like Hell's Bells or any other ACDC song in the locker room has been Bidard talk for two months. The night is finally here.
Starting point is 01:00:25 The kids are jacked up. And yeah, I think when you saw what the show he put on at the World Juniors, how could you not be excited? Everyone likes the next greatest thing. This looks like a legit next generational guy. What a passing of the torch? You go, you know, like Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, McDavid,
Starting point is 01:00:44 and now this guy, it's certainly a trajectory he's on, to say the least. Could you not make an ass of yourself tonight? Yes. Because now I know you're going to be there. You're going to be drinking. There's going to be kids involved. There's going to be 19,000 people. Could you please not embarrass us, please?
Starting point is 01:01:00 I think there's some sort of rules and bylaws that come with the association here. So I'll be on better behavior. This is, this is not going to be me high kicking in Frank Sarah Valley's lodge in Jasper at 2 a.m. I'm going to say high kicks at center ice and the first period intermission with just please. Speaking of Bedard, here's your inverse standings, Dean. We love doing this. Yeah, that's that homeless guy.
Starting point is 01:01:23 That's me. Hey, I can shotgun a beer faster than you. I bet. Let's go. Sir, he's seven. Bedard watch, let's have a peek. You know who's actually fighting their way back into this after a hot start?
Starting point is 01:01:38 It was the Montreal Kennedy, who also hold the Florida Panthers first round selection. Is it Ben Chirot? Ben Chirot. Got to be Ben Chirot. Blackhawks still, your lead dogs. And the blue jackets, yeah, they'll be really upset. They're missing Gus Nyquist until the end of the year, potentially. They've been awful. I really don't want them in Anaheim.
Starting point is 01:01:57 I really don't want them in Columbus. You want this guy visible in a major market. We'll see where the lottery balls end up. But, boy, Chicago sure feels like Gary's wet dream, isn't it? Arizona. Arizona. Screw off. Get to Arizona.
Starting point is 01:02:10 Austin Matthews signs there in a couple years. Boom. You think you could sell all 5,000 seats if he gets there? That'd be something, wouldn't it? Come on. You keep going back to this rink thing. It's like, like, Carter Bred is going to play for what? Two years?
Starting point is 01:02:23 No. And you know what? If it gets them a rink, I mean, Sid went to the Penguins and they needed a rink. What a coincidence it would be again. Sure did. Yeah, they got the Civic Center, Mellon Arena, the igloo.
Starting point is 01:02:35 Old Gary. I knew it was going to work in Phoenix. Nobody else did, but I knew it was going to work. We stick to our guns. We had shitty owners for decades and financed the whole thing, and it finally worked.
Starting point is 01:02:51 I'm not sure how Connor Bedard ended up in Arizona. Let's just call it a coincidence, I guess. That's the luck of the ping, pong balls talk to Edmonton. NFL news tank. There's no entanking. No, any tanks in the national hockey league. What's a tank? Tom Brady's done, buddy. This is, I don't know how to feel about Tom Brady. It was really, really annoying how good he and Belichick were, but once they separated, it felt like
Starting point is 01:03:19 he was more human and less robotic. And the evil empire disbanded wasn't as spooky, I suppose. Maybe we're a little more fond of him than we were five years ago. Here's him saying, saying goodbye or at least a piece of it. See how long we can handle this shit. Good morning guys. I'll get to the point right away. I'm retiring for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time. So when I woke up this morning, I figured I just press record and let you guys know first. So I won't be long-winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay. And I used mine up last year. So I really thank you guys so much to every single one of you for supporting me. My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors.
Starting point is 01:04:12 I could go on forever. There's too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn't change. It's good, Misty, at the end. I love you all. So how long till the Brady to the Raiders room? skit started yeah we got that week or two they were already going yeah but you know what
Starting point is 01:04:35 there was the the sean peyton tom brady to vegas yeah would we still one one domino fell yesterday and now now brady's look at that i mean he does look like you took some some skin and wrapped it around a an android like it's just yeah if that's the t1 000 i'm not surprised right yeah peel peel that off you feel like it'd be some sort of a droid under Yeah, Cyborg or something. I'm with you. What does that guy do now? Didn't he have like a $400 million offer from Fox or something? I think that's exactly what he does.
Starting point is 01:05:09 He picks that back up and a huge coincidence, I'm sure. Now that the divorce is done, he gets to keep all that money, interestingly, rather than split it in half or however that would work. I don't know. Maybe one of those guys that as well as he did in his NFL career. It was always while Brady took less to have winners around him. Brady was never the highest paid quarterback in the league? Is he a guy that'll make more in his?
Starting point is 01:05:30 post-career broadcasting career than he did on the field? I think broadcasting he'll make a ton, but that's the tip of the iceberg. I mean, who wouldn't get this guy all over their brand? Like, he should, he'll, like, you think of Jordan's legacy. He made money in the league, but like his brand, like the Jordan, people are wearing Jordans every day in the NBA. I think this is the type of brand he's got and whether that's health products, whether that's fitness stuff.
Starting point is 01:05:55 Kids want to wear great. TB12, baby. He's just getting started. and he's going to stay relevant by being in the media. It is now, but it wasn't the year after he retired. It was way bigger, way bigger than TB12. I'm saying there's ceiling there. Look at that face.
Starting point is 01:06:12 Yeah. You mentioned Sean Payton. He is going to the Broncos. What's another first rounder when you've already given like five to the Seattle Seahawks for Russell Wilson, right? I mean, I don't know that this is going to work. Man, they're the last coach. I told me either. And what kind of dough is it?
Starting point is 01:06:31 It's got to be huge. Sean Payton probably could have had a number of teams that would have loved to have him in as their head coach. Denver does not look like it's going the right way. And you know your quarterback's a flake and you're tied to him for at least, what, another couple of years. When can you get, when you can get up from another of that contract? Yeah. It's not cap-friendly to get rid of him yet, that's for sure. This is a good coach.
Starting point is 01:06:55 One that does have the whole Bounty Gate thing surrounding him for many years ago, that it was suspended for a full year by the league, but a guy that's won titles, it's had competitive clubs. They're better with him than without him, but I think you nailed it on the head. Like, he still has Russell Wilson as QB1. So that's going to be something.
Starting point is 01:07:12 And Kevin James, Kevin James did a movie about him. So Kevin James is a very attractive man. Your doppelganger? Yeah. Who knew? We'll close to Pind Report, Dean. Everyone loves a little karaoke.
Starting point is 01:07:25 Even the Flames backup or second best goal is. We found out at Ranchmans earlier this week via social media. So let's have a listen here. Sing it, Dean. Burns, burns, burns, holy smokes. Yeah, you seem crouching. Six, six is tall.
Starting point is 01:07:54 And that's Swedish accent. Never heard it on that song before. That's odd, isn't it? Yeah. Now, just right on nailed it. Often we worry with the YouTube's about copyrighted music. And I figured if you sang something so well, it might actually sound like the.
Starting point is 01:08:15 song, you can be in really big copyright trouble. They'll haul down the show. You didn't pay for that song. I'm not concerned about Jacob Marks from getting the show pulled off YouTube today. I'll say that. We're good. We're good. That's your Pender Report, Dean.
Starting point is 01:08:31 Down, down, down. The flames, they went higher. Yeah. Northwest Autumn Mall, your dealership for life. It is Village Honda, the 2023 Honda Passport Trail. Sport is in stock. You can take one. For a twirl, have one of your own, go and see all the good folks up at Village Honda.
Starting point is 01:08:50 You can use a little QR code there on the corner of your screen or go online at village honda.com. It is one of those songs, too, I feel like over the years has been, has been saying from someone who's drunk. It's been one of those drunk songs. It just, you know, burn, right of fire. It's been a lot of people at studies. He goes up.
Starting point is 01:09:14 Yeah. Goes up a notch in my in my books. Does he? In Calgary, gas at ranchmen's. Yeah. You know, he's not a... Full gear, too. Well, I'm...
Starting point is 01:09:24 I'm Jacob Markstrom. I can't be going out and frolicing with the people. They will know who I am. But down, down, down the place where... Will they have pickled herring? I can't go. Yeah, no, he's spitting in. I like it.
Starting point is 01:09:40 I just puked on my boat. Ah, shit. Coming up on the 12th of February, Tom Brady, not going to be an adorable Jacob Markstrom. It is the big game. It's the big football game. It's the football game. We, you and I, going to be watching stage bar. Stagebar.
Starting point is 01:10:01 Let's go. The Grey Eagle Resort and Casino. Yes, sir. They got the big screens. They kind of have the projection screens. They got the screens all set up. We're going to be there. Barnburner.
Starting point is 01:10:10 I won't say on location because that'll be, it'll be Markstrom. The marks from impression from Pindra. I think the Eagles are so good. It's just so good. Fly, Eagles, bye. That's right. Yeah, you'll be singing. Gray Eagle Resort and Casino, February 12th,
Starting point is 01:10:30 it's the big game watch party. We will be there with Barn Burner, and we'd like you, we'd like to see ya, come on by, join us. I mentioned it the other day, and didn't you have somebody reach out? Did you say $12 for a plate of wings and pitcher of beer? What is that? I'll, yes, I'm coming. 12 bucks,
Starting point is 01:10:48 picture of beer and a plate of wings as we sit and watch the big game. And in addition to that, draws to be made at halftime and postgame for $100 slot play tickets.
Starting point is 01:11:01 Go out and do the and the grand prize they will be giving away a 65 inch Samsung 4K TV and the sound bar of the full home studio, the whole home entertainment unit
Starting point is 01:11:13 going to be all yours if you win that one. So that's coming up. All the more reason to go and join us and be with us at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino on February 12th. Go and check out their website. Gray Eagle Resort and Casino. They got some things coming up. I saw it.
Starting point is 01:11:28 They have Bert Kreisher coming in, stand up guy over at the event center, the Grey Eagle at the event center. Burke Kreischer sold the first show out. He's going to do a matinee now on the Saturday. He's massive. One of the best standups going. He really is. Have you seen much of Bert? I don't know anything about him. I always lean on you for comment.
Starting point is 01:11:46 He comes out. Yeah. We're built similarly. He'd be taller, but we, so you know what you're thinking? Yeah, Greek God. Yeah. Little hairier, perhaps. At the start of each show, he takes his shirt off and does the show topless. I, you've got my attention. I'll say that. Tickets available through Ticketmaster.com. Burt Kreischer. Great. Very funny guy. He and he and Tom Sager have a great podcast. But But anyway, there's lots going on at, and the Colin James, I think is coming in August. So there's lots to do, lots to see.
Starting point is 01:12:22 But this, of course, Grey Eagle Resort and Casino for the big watch party coming up on the 12th of February. We'll take on all high kick challengers as well. Stage bar. Don't be messing around. Bring your egg game. I'm sorry. This is a thing now, right? This is going to become even, it's already a thing, but now it's going to become a
Starting point is 01:12:43 public thing, a more well-known thing. I think I need to get one of those like WWE belts. And a hoodie with the high kick world champ, 20, 20, 23. Like, I think we got to build this thing out. Now, do we know that you are the champ? We know that you're doing it. Did you win on the weekend? Yeah, we were measuring against some of the frames in the background.
Starting point is 01:13:03 I had Jacob by just a matter of centimeters. Now, I'm a little taller, longer levers, but I give them, you know, A for effort. Got them just by here. So tomorrow Thursday, we, I imagine, I don't know. be tricky. Hope Street, our good friends, Shaman and Hope Street, you ask Rett. What do we do if we don't have a Rett? We'll have a Rett. We'll make it happen for at least a few minutes. We need a recap of the game. We need to get the food updates.
Starting point is 01:13:32 Yeah. If you have a question for Red about his joints, his limbs, his career, his eating, his family adventure down in Florida, whatever it is, you're welcome to do so. Ask Rett at Flamesnation.ca. Yeah, there's the perspective. That's what you get. Askrette at Flamesnation.ca is the email address. Of course, you can use your hashtag AskRet. If you just want to go through Twitter, you can do it that way.
Starting point is 01:13:59 So for Hope Street, we will do Ask Rett tomorrow. Asking about the booby trap. And before we run out, we'll do our Betway bets of the day. Victoria's Dean, you lead off. You're two for two. Yeah. Well, I wasn't feeling it until overtime came through. anytime you know money line that's how you do it only a couple games tonight i'm going to uh
Starting point is 01:14:24 gonna take a swing with one i feel okay about the other boston bruins are in toronto no the bruin's winless in three yeah it's a skid the leaps they've already beaten the bruns at home yeah that's three games yeah must be rough and didn't they get points in two of the three oh i'm gonna take the leaves at home only they're getting plus money they've been playing okay last game before. I'll just take the leaps of plus money. They've been pretty good at home. And the other one I'm going to do a little bit of a combo there.
Starting point is 01:14:57 Nealander, I think is at seven, seven game point streak. He's been great. And Pasternak is Pasternak. Taking a run at it, both of them to get a goal or more, plus 350 if they both score tonight. So those are my two for the bedway bats. We are singing together in the same chorus. We know of the same hymn book.
Starting point is 01:15:14 I'm also on the past, we Willie Nealander stack there that pays plus 350. It's the last game for a while. We're going to take some cuts here. I'm also on the tage and tuck stack for the sabers or at home to the hurricanes. So let there be goals, my friend. Let there be backup goalies. Let there be goals. Let there be blowouts and let there be Thompson, tuck, pasta, and we willie. Very nice. There you have it. Your bet we bets of the day. Get that to get the app on your phone and B-19 and all that stuff on terrorize. All that sort of stuff. What's what's happening for you
Starting point is 01:15:48 the rest of this day? It's game day. We've got to Bedard in town. So the boys are jacked. We'll have hopefully good behavior and then off to the rink where everyone will be in their jerseys with sticks in hand, helmets and skates standing on the blue line for the anthem. They are absolutely wound up
Starting point is 01:16:04 like tops, ready to spin and dance and sing and of the merriest day of their lives. So these seven and eight year olds, pretty exciting. Now one of yours, I assume will be well behaved. Always, yes. What about the other one?
Starting point is 01:16:18 A hardened criminal. Because the other one's a challenge, right? That's a bit, they're very different. Well, I think it's going to take some heavy, heavy bribery and maybe even some cash, malt, popcorn, soda pop type outcomes to get what we need to. Yeah. But it's a one-off. You don't suppose he'd try and challenge people to high-kick contests in the concourse? Not at this age, but he might get up in Bard's Grill or something.
Starting point is 01:16:45 Sounds like something he might. might do though, right? Like he would be one of those guys that would just start doing high kicks out of nowhere and then challenging people and saying, you can't beat me. That sort of thing. Well, you know, they say what apples, Dean. They don't fall out of trees into cabs and end up in different provinces. They kind of lie right below the tree that day. Right. Something like that. Something like that. Have fun with the boys there tonight. Enjoy that. We'll be back tomorrow. Talk to them. And thanks everybody for for checking this thing out. We'll see you, buddies. I would say, oilers suck. Peace. Oilers suck. That's right.
