Oh, hey, look at us doing a show.
NDO.
Yep.
Look at us.
Here we are.
Another thrilling edition of Barnburner coming your way on a Thursday, the 3rd of July.
They were giving you trouble for not working Tuesday, and it would just work every day.
That's what we do.
That's right.
Just keep work, work, work.
Just grind away.
No days off.
Presentation of Bet 365.
Hey, whatever your bed is, it's never ordinary at Bet365.
Download the app.
Get in in the game official partner of this.
Stanley Cup playoffs, which are now over.
It's true.
But they were a great partner.
Must be 19 year older.
Get that app.
Get it on your phone.
Play along and be responsible.
You can actually wager on futures for next year's cup right now.
And of course, there's the super chat.
If you're in the YouTube and you want to do it,
by all means you can do it.
Then you should.
Why not?
It's for the kids.
You senders a counter.
You senders a county.
What do we know, man?
How are we doing?
My eyes are open to do.
so that's yeah you look less hung over congrats yeah your voice is a little less horse uh yeah
she was a hot one yesterday dino it was it was it was yeah yeah that's max heat for me 30 35
oh it was 34 down south was yeah really yeah okay toasty down there and i think my new windshield
reflects the heat inside more it makes it hotter it's like a microscope like you're burning
Hands, it's your car.
Really?
Yeah.
That's my analysis.
That's my scientific breakdown.
That's pretty good.
Yeah, that's pretty good.
Could it be true?
No.
Oh.
No chance.
I sat aside for two hours of the tarp off and just sweat in the sun.
It was beautiful.
Doing what?
Nothing.
Just sitting by a pool.
It's creeping on.
Yeah.
Strangler's walking by.
Yeah.
Then one played tennis?
Oh, good weather.
Hey, what's up?
I'm high as a cane.
You like stuff?
Yeah.
Yeah, please shirt off.
Put a shirt on, please.
Check out my gut.
We're going to talk to noodles coming up in a little bit.
Like maybe we can do a Pinda report before we talked to Nuddles.
Just gotta shake it up.
I don't think there's pretty much everything's almost done.
I was going to say this is how it goes.
July 1, whoa, get excited.
And even this year is like, well, this is a shitty July 1.
Yeah, there's not a lot going on.
And then July 2 is okay, good trickling.
Some trickling in.
And by today, it's like, yeah, that's going to do it.
Full up the tent.
Well, the Tray Fix Wolansky sweepstakes are over.
So I guess we can head off for the summer.
And Gus Nyquist has found his home.
Yes, he has.
We can find our summer homes.
Yeah, that's right.
Flames, though, get a deal done with Morgan.
Morgan Frost.
Wallet?
Not Morgan Wallin.
That would be good.
Middle six-settlement, Morgan Frost.
Two years, 4.375, which was around the neighborhood that had been projected
since he was acquired in trade because you knew you needed to do.
deal you know what i'm going to take this in a completely different direction all right
complete BS he shouldn't make even close to as much as ball ball's way better
more than him yeah he is making more than him yeah he is making more like a million more
i know but that's not enough i want more differential i'm but i get you i get it's going to
tout goaltending i'm going to stick up for the and also not to change subject i'm we're
asked miss anderson i'm back on his side i'm not going to california it's a shithole
What?
$10, $10 a gallon.
So just in case someone missed the show yesterday,
you were railing on how the players were soft.
Soft.
And Rasmus is soft.
And he should have extended in L.A.
For the next nine years.
My point on that was he should,
they shouldn't have consulted him.
They should have just said,
here's your money.
Will you take a gazillion dollars a year?
Yes.
Well,
now we traded.
Yeah.
Someone brought this up yesterday because we talked to it.
We're like,
well, no,
no, no.
The new trade or the new deal will have no movement clause.
You still got the last year of his regular deal still.
So you could be a real huge jerk and sign him and trade him.
I just don't know who would ever want to deal with your organization after that.
That would be a full Kelly McCrimman move.
That's awesome.
Why do I have to consult you?
You have a 16-0 trade.
Oh, but I got the new.
Yeah, that kicks in next July.
I'm aware of that, son.
I'm aware.
Pack your shit.
Players and agents would be furious, but you could do it, I believe.
You should have done it.
Wow, I don't think you should.
Why?
Because I think, like,
he's holding your,
what is the reputation of your organization?
What does it do to that?
I'm here to win.
That's why.
Are you, though?
You're kind of here to rebuild,
and you're going to have to lure people to come here.
They're not going to come here until you're good.
You're not luring.
If you treat a player like S and backdoor them into an extension they don't want,
players around the league,
you're going to talk about that.
Agents are going to talk about that.
Screw this team.
We can't let them treat players like that.
You're going back to putting too much power in the player
in the agent's hands.
Yeah, the owners still make, you know, all the money.
It's, I don't really have any sympathy for that.
I don't understand.
What do you mean?
I just mean, look, like, we're talking about a $6 billion business.
The owners have a whole lot of leverage and a whole lot of money they get to make on this
thing.
And the players have more rights than they used to.
We don't need to go back to the day where the Detroit Red Wings told Gordy Howe,
he was the highest paid player in the league and he wasn't.
He was making $30,000.
We don't need to go back to the, you're not a free agent, so you're 30.
Like, players are allowed to have rights.
And if you don't want to deal with them.
no move close, don't put it in the contract.
Well, like, I don't think RAS was doing anything.
So I just throw it right back in your face.
Here's the contract.
I can do what I want with it.
And under these circumstances, I could trade your ass.
Sure.
I just think.
So on one hand, you have to be the nice guy and they don't.
I understand.
Where's his give to you?
Well, we've only paid you five million bucks a year for the last however long.
And we brought you long and we've tried to treat you right and do good by you.
And now you're, oh, yeah, but this is what my contract says.
Well, how would you feel then at age 29 if the flames did that to you?
I wouldn't feel like it's, well.
You'd be upset.
You'd be upset.
Yeah.
In all reality, you might be upset, but it's, this is the contract.
And I just resigned for eight, eight years.
That's right.
When is it okay?
Well, you're doing pretty fucking good, bud.
Yeah.
He's going to do all right.
So if I'm keeping score, have you switched now back against you're against Rasmus again?
Are you back on the?
No, but my original take was right from the start yesterday when I said they should have just signed him and traded him because they could.
No one wanted to agree with you.
Oh, it's rude.
I hadn't thought about the no move not being kicked in yet because obviously the new deal is going to include some trade protection.
Players of his caliber at that age, that's what they get.
Maybe that's GM's being soft and players demanding too much, but it's the market.
Has anything like that ever happened?
I don't think so.
No, but exactly.
It would be a really, really, really, really big.
dick move.
You could do it.
Brett, I was wrong.
You could do it.
I just think that this team already faces some challenges.
How long would it be?
It would be like any news real thing that happens.
Oh, today that's big news.
And actually all of us would love it because we're like, this is unbelievable.
Something to talk about.
And then next week it would be like, whatever.
So again, what you're saying is in this scenario,
the flames would negotiate with Rasmus Anderson.
They wanted a new contract.
We want you here.
We love you.
Okay, eight years, whatever money.
It's called eight times nine.
Yeah, eight times eight times whatever the money is.
Sure.
But that doesn't kick in until the end of next season because you have one more year left.
But then you're doing one of these behind closed doors.
I've already got a, I've got a trade.
Ken Holland, I got it done.
Kenny, Kenny, we can do the deal.
I got it done.
So the player signs his deal with a full no move.
Yeah.
Thinks he's set, buys a new house.
Yeah.
You've been traded.
Yeah.
How is that possible?
I have a no move.
Next year you do.
You have a very limited no trade this year.
And my favorite part is you know what the press conference will be when they announced the sign.
You know, I'm really proud to be a lifetime flame.
I've only wanted to wear this one jersey.
I love this city.
I bleed for this logo.
I love the oats.
And we've traded Rasmus.
Well,
it's the biggest thing.
How much money do you need?
You'd be talking to Kenny.
What are you willing to pay this guy?
Nine.
Okay.
Ross, you take nine?
Yeah, we'll take nine.
Kenny, what about a no move?
Ten, three, team, no move.
Ten?
Yeah, I'll do ten.
All right.
He got his money.
That's what you wanted.
I'm right.
At that point, he wanted to stay Calgary.
I know that Mr. Edwards, you're listening down there.
This is the kind of stuff I can bring to you.
Mr. Edwards is listening.
He's definitely not here.
He's on a yacht in Europe or something.
Yeah, I, there might still be an issue, I think, here,
that maybe Rasmus wants to sign somewhere else.
He's allowed to have a preferred marketer, three or five or ten, sure.
I just made it might be tough.
It's your asset.
Deal with it how you want.
Yeah, to your point, they went and exchanged numbers,
and at that point it was clear it was time to move on.
It was clear.
But if they had said eight times nine is great,
he might not be so interested in moving along.
Once you're off by 30 million, it's time to move along.
That would be maybe a bit of a fly in the oit.
You call back, hey, you know what?
You know how we were 30?
You know what?
What's 30 million?
between friends.
Hey, you were right, we were wrong.
Eight times nine.
Gosh, that's big of you, Craig.
Okay.
Is something changed?
No.
Nothing has changed.
No, we just change your heart,
slept on it, feel a lot better about it.
Penn, anyone?
Penn.
Can we get a pen for Rasmus?
What did Drury do?
What's that?
Is that Kay Holland on your phone?
Don't worry about that.
These guys are being dramatic.
That would never happen.
It would never,
ever happen.
It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Yes.
Why?
What did,
what did what did a jury do that kid did it got him out of there?
Well,
then I'll put you on,
how did he get him out of?
Waivers.
Yeah.
For what,
Barkley Goodroll?
He had a no trade, right?
Yeah,
he didn't have a no move.
So you can put him on waivers.
If you had a full no move,
you can't put a guy on waivers.
Yes, but it was considered,
oh, I can't believe he did that.
That's shady business to get him out of there.
I, like,
I'm arguing to argue about what point does the team do no these are this is how it is you've got a contract it's 16 no trade and it's buffalo Columbus winnipeg who else would be on there
Ottawa well that's the thing what if la is on it there's still i don't i don't think so either but six team no trade and you're putting l a okay you're right sure okay i'm it's possible it's incredibly unlikely it's
it seems very unlikely but yeah like then you're well you know what then you're dumb for putting it
Like you'd have you'd have you'd have anahe if you don't like something about California anaheim and san
Louisiana before L.A.
Like it.
Yeah.
It's sure.
Okay.
Well, fine.
If it's L.A., then I guess you can't do it.
But that's what I'm that when we have this conversation.
If L.A.'s on the list.
Then I guess that's a different.
No, but I can't imagine.
What kind of percentage would you put that L.A's on the six?
Two percent.
Very low.
Yeah.
Extremely low.
One in 50 chance.
I don't believe you guys don't like.
like oh come on right you were a player if a team treated a player that way and you were in the league
and they called you july one they're still going to have a team just let me finish you take off your
analyst tat let him finish put on your i'm in the league you're always interrupting never does
we're all like when you were a player you were part of a you i understand you would have been so pissed
if someone treated one of your teammates that way and and you would be like i'm never going to play
have to get over it and move on.
Or you'd say, I'm not going there.
And this team's not.
But that's fine.
Like I,
are we a hot commodity to get two?
So are we bringing in anyway?
Like it's going to affect how many people that are thinking, oh,
geez,
I'd really like to start.
In the next five years,
you're going to be recruiting.
Would it have affected Frost and ball signing?
No,
because it don't leverage.
But what I'm saying is, I was,
I think I was well liked in the room.
And when they came and ran me out of town,
guess what the guys did?
Can't play.
They carried on.
Yes, they did. That's the cruel business.
It's just if you were, if you were a Rasmus trade away from winning a cup,
I can understand being that cutthroat.
But you are so not even close that I don't know why you deal with a bad PR to get an extra second round pick.
Like it's wild to me.
You even think this is a real.
It's not an extra second round or whatever it is.
Like or another prospect or a first like, hey, you operate your team how you want.
Dummy and I'll operate mine.
I'm dying to know what it was.
I am too.
What was the return?
I'll get Dreg's drunk this summer.
Nice, do that.
And then we'll find out what it is.
We'll like, oh, maybe it's best not to know.
Yeah, you're either going to be mad one way or the other.
You're like, what the up?
We didn't.
Campay and Brand Clark?
Holy shit.
Buckle up for it.
Assigning rights to Andre Kuzmenko.
Just have that guy.
Sounds like they're not happy in L.A. with how Ken Holland has spent their offseason money.
They had 25 million bucks in cap space.
And Nicola Eulers are still out there.
and they've added a whole bunch of fringe of the roster and the 25 million scott
a lot of old guys too corey back up doomelin i don't know i actually was wondering if anyone
was going to bring it up i this is i'm enjoying the oilers fans in my life pointing out that ken
hollins are making mistakes i'm like have you been gone the last six years now you're only
noticing this when darnell nurse got nine in a court and jack campbell got 25 million you didn't
notice oh okay so the the blue colored lenses they're working in it now what it's
on defense
Sisi again
You can't quit Cici
Somebody else
It's almost like a curb your enthusiasm
episode I'm trying to think of
Or a Seinfeld where you give this guy
A high paying
You know very important high level job
And you get into it
It's Costanza for the Yankees
Does he know what he's doing?
He must know what he's doing
He's an importer exporter
Yeah
It's Mandelea Industries
He must know what he's doing
I don't know if he knows what he's doing
You have a clue
right oh well so you got a third pair lockdown for nine million and you probably and you gave
what jordan spence was good who was it yeah younger and uh you didn't hmm anyway i'm gonna find
it's not anyway because i feel like l a really good spot with how their team was set up and
yes they lose that defenseman and blah blah blah but they were to me they're at playoff team
and if you wait till the trade deadline and you've got cap space
you can i think that's what it's going to do they did last year they got rid of cc they got all the money
they need to match the office sheets then they kept the money turned it into walman at the time
walman yeah big goal walman big goal he's good player but yeah so eeler's still out there
he's still out there where is he going to go what is he looking for we've heard from a lot of different
sources around him doesn't want the big spotlight market so don't expect big big
market don't expect Canadian market what does that even mean though so
if he can go get a coffee without getting recognized he's happy where where is that
anahe where is that annaheim would recognize nick eilers on the street okay but everyone
yesterday the people that he liked winnipeg is that a hot is that a i don't think he liked or
just like he was a good soldier when he's moving on he's happy to move on is sort of the thought so okay
so how many teams in the n hl want nick eilers that are hot
market teams.
Do you know what I mean?
And I don't know if it might be the stupidest term ever.
Well, I think the Leafs would like some offense.
Florida, Tampa Bay, you can go for coffee.
New York City for sure.
Anywhere in New York, Jersey.
Yeah.
Buffalo, you probably can't.
Carolina, you can go.
Carolina.
I'm by Dallas you can go.
Yeah, so he's going to a Sunbelt team.
It's kind of how wide wind let down.
Well, I'm being even more.
I mean, you could probably do it in Boston.
90% of the teams that you go.
play for you not over right it's not yeah i think elias lintone probably hears it when he's not
playing well in boston and you wouldn't in i'll bet you it's very i don't know if i'm just guessing
you know better than but they they costin's a big city and not everybody the bruns are popular
yeah but and like winnipeg's different edmonton's different it's it's just different
they're smaller cities and that that's f all else that team is the by far and away the number one
attraction in town.
Yes.
I think you could be an elk and probably
not be pestered going to the theater.
They're not pestered in their own stadium for home games.
Kind of thing.
Yeah.
It's gross.
So yeah, it would be wherever he goes, chances are.
And you don't have to be the front and center guy anyway.
Even if you cut him a check for 9, 10 million,
there's going to be people asking you when things don't go well.
I just gosh.
But yeah, look, if that's the price to pay.
There's lots of suitors.
Give me $9 million.
And then if I'm...
And you can still have it all.
You can go to Anahe and not get recognized and make all the money and be on a team that's ascending.
Mike Gould's going on Twitter.
Again, what you're saying, and I don't begrudge it.
It's just so soft.
Or maybe I'm wrong.
Maybe that's not soft and that's just person.
But it's like, so you can't be questioned or talk to.
Yeah.
So your objective is to find a place you can hide.
Might speak about something that I,
matters you famously always said you wish you did the market you did in the opposite order yeah
why did you want to finish your career in miami what did you like about miami well it's more than that
i was a country bumpkin where would i fit in south beach or calgary calgary okay so then you get a little
more refined yeah you go to buffalo figure what the u.s is about yeah i gotta get my green card
and then you go down to my and why would you want to finish your career in miami just because it's
nice and warm and i could have retired there and that might be what niquette is
keelers wants, right? Doesn't mean he's soft.
Well, you didn't say that. You said,
look, we're all guessing it what he wants. I'm just saying, like, it's not
crazy for a guy to want to finish his career in a nice southern market where he can
I'm not, I'm not criticizing that. I'm saying if his objective is to hide from people saying
hi to him at the coffee shop. Jesus Christ. That feels like it's probably a little overblown.
I would, again, I think there's that checklist. Yeah. We all do it when it comes to
major decisions. I'd buy in a couch, signing an NHL contract. What's most important? I need dough. I want to
win where I want to live what all the does it recline so where good neck support where is the median
fans bugging me when I'm not at the rink where does that how intense the market is where's that I don't know
and I like I don't know the guy it's just what we've heard guys like dragger say yeah or elliott or
whoever else talk to us or he didn't hear all this podcast twice week who what you listen to that shit
so you know nick eilers doesn't want to resign in winnipeg three months ago uh here's
Here's the tweet, by the way.
We were talking about Ken Holland.
This is the tweet that just buckled me.
And the other friends like, geez, like, is he lost something?
How do you have $25 million in cap space and turn it into 31-year-old
old Cody Cici, 33-year-old Brian Dumlin, 40-year-old Cory Perry,
32-year-old Joel Armea, excuse me, and 32-year-old backup goaltender,
Anton Forresberg, and 29-year-old Andreik Kuzminko.
This is a bleeping nightmare.
You can say it.
You're showing it on the screen.
It's a fucking number.
But again, like, if you, if you maybe played your cards a little differently,
you could have an eelers and a.
Well, what's the total dollar per year?
Like, how much cab is that?
That's the $25 million.
Three is 12 and two is.
Yes.
Yeah.
It's death by a thousand bad contract cuts.
Not a lot of hometown discount.
Like Perry's a million or.
No, it's three and a half.
Three and a half for Corey.
Yes.
I thought it was two.
It's insane what he's done.
Jesus Christ.
Jack, double check.
We're idiots.
Well, I can pull it.
I have.
We're idiots.
Don't.
I have the.
I'm guessing it is close to the 25 million.
That's basically it.
Like the,
well, it's on X.
So it's got to be true, right?
Our internet's the shits in here.
It does feel like there was a few sidewalks,
signings that you're,
two million.
Hey,
we've got a lot of cab space.
Let's spend it.
Dumlin 4 million.
CC4.
4.5.
2 and a half for Armia.
Yoel.
Yuel.
Yuel.
Yuel.
Now, they need a defenseman.
I just feel like those aren't the ones.
So he's got a base salary of a million performance bonuses of two, A.A.V.
of four.
There's lots of stuff going on here.
Perry's making two, Army at two and a half.
Perry's making four with the AAV because he's got bonuses.
Well, I mean, look.
That's just awful.
Maybe it works.
how to go in Evanton when he had a half decade with two superstars.
He flushed a lot of money.
I think that I,
I think those are terrible signs.
Yeah.
Almost to a,
the Cozmanco, maybe.
Because McHenco's fine.
One year,
4.3.
I mean,
if he has a really big year,
you'd have to get him a huge raise or walking a choice.
We were in with him here.
It's like,
go get a kid.
Yeah.
Play well,
we could trade you or play well and we'll keep it.
Did you talk about their D?
Your D?
35-year-old.
31 C C, Dumlin's 33, Joel Edmanson's 32.
Grant Clark's going to be, what, 22?
Yeah.
They were getting Spence out of there.
Mikey Anderson, 26.
He's quite nice, yeah.
So you've got one guy in his prime.
That's nice.
I mean, Dought he played four nations last year.
It's not like he's toast, right?
No, but you saw that they didn't have drags.
They could five freaking defense or five four.
They played four, yeah.
They played the wheels off Gavikov.
And Forrestberg's 32.
to a lesser extent.
It feels like Kenny wants shit done.
I don't want to get this done.
Kenny,
Kenny has a big golf tournament of mid-July,
and he wants everything off his desk for them.
That's what it seems like.
And that's what happened when he didn't love,
negotiate hard to get the Hawks eat any of Duncan Key's money,
and he gave Mike Smith an extra year.
It was all this, like,
if you're just patient,
you're going to get the deal you want.
Like,
what are the Hawks going to do?
Say no to a future Hall of Famer that going to Edmonton.
Like, you got them over the barrel.
Don't take the whole salary.
but get this off my desk then we can go tee it up
that's reckless speculation Ryan
it is or it is not what we do he has the fact that he maybe is hosting a charity
golf tournament it's not chariots it doesn't necessarily
it feels like you got trying to get an extra year for Brian
it does feel like he feels like he got to swing at Anderson when he didn't get
him he yeah well and then all like he would have absolutely
been in on uh ecblad if you got to market they want
at Anderson like the right shot d's clearly what's going on here right and then it's like could you
just wait on eilers like he hasn't made up his mind yet have you got a hard no from eilers or you're just
not going to want to wait out till now and we don't know that maybe we don't know i don't know
maybe you got a hard no that's right we don't know i was to me it's more about the defense but
what are you jumping in to get more 30 3 year old defense i could just get a few more guys on the
8c t box and not one year deals like four years for dumlin code he said he looked like he'd played himself
into PTO territory last year in Dallas.
I thought they were talking.
He played better.
Oh.
I honestly, I don't recall.
I felt like that's what I heard.
I will say this.
The whole Cody CCC experience,
if you put them on the third pair with someone,
he can be fine.
But Dallas asked him to play top four minutes
because of how weak their right side was
and the hayskin injury and all that.
It was a disaster.
You got absolutely sink hold.
Four years?
Four years.
Four years for C.
Three years.
Is that what you're commanding?
If you're Dumlin and C.C.?
And I'm honestly asking, is that fair market value?
God, no.
I mean, it's, that's, it is the market.
That's July 1, but that's the craziest deal anyone offered.
Or we wouldn't go there.
Shoot right, I guess, kids.
Is that the, yeah.
Yeah.

year is that what you just got the hardware there oh i wish
So right now I took their screens away.
Oh, that's a good move at the start of summer.
Set the standard.
Yes.
Set the standard.
Exactly.
Here's my cut.
Here's my cutthroat analogy of the flames in Rasmus Anderson.
So no one wants to.
You sign him to the eight-year extension.
Yeah.
Give him the number he needs to get to.
Then you trade his ass immediately because he's only got a six-team, no trade clause for this year.
Right.
And then you get the big return.
And then I get the big return from Kenny in L.A.
So, but he's got the six team no trade for this year, correct?
That's year.
So you sign him to the extension win and let him play this year?
No, right away.
No, sign him out because it's past July 1st.
You signed up to his eight years.
You chat with Kenny.
You get what, Kenny, what are you comfortable playing, paying this guy?
Nine million.
Okay.
So Kenny's like, yeah, we'll give him eight times nine for sure.
And then you say, what about a, what about,
What about a no move clause?
And Kenny says yes or no, or maybe it's a temp team.
And you, okay, yeah, Raspis, you agree to this?
Yes, well, you're gone.
But is L.A. on his no-fly zone right now.
We doubt it.
It would be hard for a six-team list for L.A.
If you were putting together a no-fly zone, would L.A. be six?
Six is not a lot of teams.
Not a lot of teams.
You're right.
I would have to think, have you guys guessed the teams?
like would it be Columbus Ottawa
Columbus Ottawa
Edmonton yeah that's four
Columbus Ottawa
Edmonton Buffalo
Buffalo 5
Winnipeg
I don't know
I would be surprised if it's LA
but
thing is is
would 9 million get it done
if he gave Cody Cici
what four and a half times four
well this is part of the issue
we're having is we're going down
Kenny's list of accomplishments
this spring
Have you ever had a fire where you ran out of wood and you just burnt $25 million in the fireplace instead of any lumber?
Because they might have done that in L.A. just past three days.
Well, you didn't think Brian Dumlin was...
And C.C., and Anton Foresburg.
Hey, you know what, James?
It's the way the game is going.
Less youth, more...
I'll be honest.
I didn't have a problem with Foresburg because I think...
When it was it, two and a half, that's not a lot for a guy who can give you...
If Darcy Kemper has an injury,
I don't think they've got much depth there.
So two and a half for a backup when Kemper's making it west.
That's fine.
Yeah, I'm fine with that.
Yes, it's the net.
I'll leave the Forrestsburg one alone.
Yeah, I mean, was it?
Who was it?
Appleton?
No, Armia.
Armia, Cozbenko, Dumolin, and Cesar Perry.
Cusmanco, I mean,
Kuzminko played well for them.
They needed a right shot on that power play.
I don't know what the number was.
4.3.
It's fine.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, yeah, he was fine.
They already know what they have in them.
But I thought they got a little bigger.
They got slower and older.
Yes, much more.
They did, really.
You know, it wasn't, now, I will say L.A.
L.A. is a very good team the way they're constructed.
These are all, you know, we'll call them bit piece signings.
Problem is, is you're using a lot of money to have those bit piece signings.
And I would argue.
Pinder, you could probably do the analytics on this.
There's a lot of guys that played in the league last year that don't have contracts, right?
So now we're going to go through this window where either guys are going to sign for pennies on the dollar or we're going to go into PTO season.
PTO's.
Yeah, PTO season pretty quick.
So PTO.
Now, you might see a rash of signing near the end of August where teams start to go, okay, we don't really, I've slept on it.
I really don't like this or I don't like that.
or maybe they get into training camp and they don't like the development of a young guy.
The kid shows up to camp and you're like this guy.
But I think there is going to be a rash of PTOs.
And, you know, I think a lot of managers have left themselves open for that type of season.
Where they, their team isn't constructed yet.
They're not done yet.
And you're going, okay, let's wait to October.
And I would argue there's teams that I think that they will be.
complete in like December and into January where they've accrued some cap space and they've
allowed some of the young guys or some guys that want to push through and not everyone's going
to hit so they're going to go, okay, this guy's not going to be a guy. We've got to go and get
somebody else. And then we will understand who's selling, who's buying. Like because right now,
I think I've said this on your show before, outside of Pittsburgh, I guess, but Pittsburgh's still
buying players and sign in and stuff.
Like what team is rebuilding?
I'm not saying what team should be rebuilding.
What team, everyone wants to get better.
Chicago wants to get better.
San Jose wants to get better.
They're not going to be a lot better,
but they want the rebuild to be over.
Like I don't know.
Is there a team that put their hand up and said,
you know, we need McKenna, we need, you know,
we're going to go after Mickey's kid in the next two years.
It's still Chicago for me.
Like they've added some mid guys, but outside of Chicago and Pittsburgh trying to go backwards,
you're right, it's 30 teams trying to get better.
Anaheim will be better, San Jose will be better, Columbus thinks they can be a playoff team.
So there is going to be some teams that are going to have that reset.
And by November, you're going to go, that's a pretty darn good player playing on that team
that is going to, they're going to flush the season.
Like, Rhett, you were right.
I still owe you cheese toast.
but Nashville was ready to reset their season a lot sooner than other teams.
Okay?
We had Barry Trots on our show and he was like, guys, you know, sometimes legacy players
don't settle in right away.
Took them a while.
I might even, you know, retool and go right back at it again this summer and try and build
that team out.
And then Roman Yose, I don't know what's wrong with him.
I think it's a disorder or something like that.
I think he's sick, but I hope he's all right.
But I look at it.
there is going to be one or two of those teams that right now are selling
selling to the fan base selling their owner ownership and that like I'm going to grab
these players and we're going to and it's not going to work out and they're going to have to
sell not sell the farm but kind of bottom out so none of those teams we've identified
yet I mean we think we know what they are but they're not there yet so apply that to the
flames trying to move Anderson here like walk us through your view of the league and how
this how this and when this happens well
I mean, I wish it would happen sooner than later because you might be able to get what Red's talking about.
You can get a full season out of him.
And then he can get into his new environment and he likes you.
He either extends with you or I mean, I don't think he's extending.
Now, maybe there's a trade, a sign and trade that he wants to go to.
I don't know what team he would comment.
That's the thing.
Vegas is the word.
okay but you know yes you can that's that's that's that's once the lTIR kicks in for petrangelo correct
you can go 10% over i don't know where their caps at but Vegas is the preferred destination
uh that's what lebrun was reporting on friday yeah i mean i heard that too at the studio and all
that but i you know at the end of the day just because it's the preferred like what's
Vegas got that you would covet they don't have a lot they've moved a lot of their first
And you're connie and you're sitting, they're going great.
Love to move you to Vegas.
Who in that early 20s that is an up and coming player that am I going to get, you know, to replace?
Connolly, there's no one there.
Yeah, they're traded them all.
They think every first rounder they've had it.
That's what I mean.
Like they don't, Vegas doesn't have the currency to get him.
Now, you might be able to be creative and trying to create a three-way trade somewhere.
and and and and and and bringing in a okay sorry i'm interrupting you but because i agree with everything
you're saying and i bitched about this because i go back and forth being a player you try to be
on the player's sides but at some point it gets to be too much we got to cater to this is the one
and only place we can trade this guy now like come on no i i agree and and you know what
boston i wouldn't say got well they got lucky marchand wanted to go to florida they got to what
second rounder that turned to a first you know so they got a first rounder out of brad marchand
and, you know, he wanted to go there.
And they did the captain of favor type of thing.
You know, in the end, I think you show loyalty to Rasmus only to a point.
This is a business.
Craig Conroy is trying to make his team better.
Now, if you look at the way the team is constructed right now, you know, there are a knee injury to wolf away from taking a step back.
Yes, high pick, yeah.
Right?
Like high pick.
So, you know, when you're looking at it, if you're Connie, you've got Anderson that's a ticket.
You've got Cadry that might have some mild interest throughout the league.
I would say probably stronger than mild.
But, you know, Nazim, I think, has done a good job in Calgary.
And for all accounts, he likes the city and, you know, hasn't asked for a trade or anything like that.
Who else do they have for?
Blake Coleman would be an interesting one.
Guy that's one great checking winger.
Yeah, plays in your top nine.
We saw Tampa bring back Gord already.
He was part of that line.
That's the type of trade you could make that Seattle did well in that deal.
Yeah.
But those are kind of in-seasoned ones.
You know, like the Anderson one, I still feel like you could, like the one thing I think that is a balancing act for Connie is he's probably got to tell his management group and tell his ownership.
what is the peak time to move Rasmus?
Is it at, is it now?
Is it at U.S. Thanksgiving or is it at the trade deadline?
That's really what he's probably got to figure out
because the draft is come and gone.
So, you know, is it, unless there's a deal that somebody says,
I need him right now, and I'm going to pay a king's ransom.
Is that part of the issue is that we're holding,
what's he worth?
Like this is all, it's all part and parcel.
and we'll never get the information.
And LA was purported to have made one hell of an offer,
but he wouldn't go there.
And okay, what's he worth?
Are we overestimating what he's going to bring in?
And if he's controlling the situation,
like a Haniffin, is that handcuffed conroy?
Is it a learning situation where you're like,
shit, I should have traded him last summer?
Because now these guys are holding our feet to the fire.
Is that a common thing?
Or is, or if he goes out and plays well,
I mean, it's healthy to the,
trade deadline, sure, it's going to help the cause, but
it's worth the risk?
Personally, yeah, the risk is the big thing.
That word's a big thing because you're right.
He goes back to get a puck and twist his knee or something.
All of a sudden, his seasons derailed or whatever, you know, you name it, right?
So I think the biggest, the challenge is the sweet spot.
If you're going to have a King's Ransom for him right now, then you've got to find
find a landing spot where he can actually settle in and maybe there is an extension for the new
team or again without knowing the details behind the scene that's the biggest frustrating because if
i'm calgary i'm looking throughout the league like you know bow and byron like i'm looking you know
looking at a guy like that and saying god i you know can he play would he be a guy that you
covered do you and i only the only reason i bring that up is you know is in alberta boy technically
You know, his dad of, you know, Sean and all of that.
I think he can be a power play guy.
I think he can be a, you know, obviously he's had some issues with concussions.
But, you know, when I look at it, like, my Anderson probably doesn't.
Buffalo would be on a no trade list for him.
Sure.
Yep.
Right.
So he's not extending there.
Like no one's extending in Buffalo.
Right.
So that's the biggest challenge is you're trying to find who wants him and who's willing.
to pay the most and then you try and, you know, coax him and say this is best for your career,
too.
You've been mine, like, this guy might have a chance at the Olympics, would he not?
Yep.
He was the bubble guy for Sweden last year.
Okay.
Unless what Connie said last week, he's like, here's a guy, he's going to want to play well.
It's a contract year.
He wants to be with team Sweden.
The thing about it is, too, you have to weigh that do we trade him to one of the teams that's
not on his no trade, or do we try and negotiate with a team?
where he would sign an extension.
The thing about that that's tricky is once I'm a team that knows he'd sign an extension,
well, I'm on a short list of teams where he'll go.
So I can drive my, I could drive my offer down in terms of picks or prospects.
Oh, you want the first one?
Maybe it's a second and my C level prospect instead of a first and a B prospect
if it was, if it was wide open.
They're just going to have to, it's kind of the shitter, get off the pot.
They're going to have to make a very tough decision.
Yeah.
Because I don't, it's not going to be a distraction.
It's already a distraction.
It's not been a week since Craig said it wasn't going to be and it clearly is.
It will be.
I just, I want to give Connie the benefit of the doubt.
I think he's handled things pretty well for the most part.
I don't know.
I don't put any of this on Conroy.
No, me neither.
I think Conroy was ready to move him and the deal was there.
And there's been deals that.
Hang on.
Like you said, there's just a learning experience.
He went through.
with Hanifin, what did he learn?
Like, he might come out looking great,
but he was at the deadline last year and said,
I'm not moving Rasmus.
That was,
that was his chance to not have to deal with extensions yet.
There's another thing, too,
he might have learned is Jacob Markstrom.
That was another one that, you know,
there was a lot going on, right?
But again, all this, to me,
goes back to,
do the players have too much
say, you know, things play out?
Or is this just the way it is and learn from it?
I wish in this new CBA, it would have been, you know, you can't have a full no move.
Well, I said it the other, why is it not a, instead of having the no trades, why not a movement clause?
Or, okay, it's $5 billion for you to move.
We can trade you, but you get an extra $5 billion.
And five's a lot, right?
But if, would you take that?
I want a no trade.
or if you're going to trade me, I get an extra $3 million.
Because no trades end up being nothing anyway.
As soon as the team and the player establish,
well, I don't like what's happening.
And hey, Johnny, come into my room.
We really don't want you anymore.
Can we move you?
Like, what do they mean?
I think it's honestly, and you guys both played,
so you would know better than me.
But it just feels if I'm a player,
I want to know trade because I don't want to end up.
If I hate Winnipeg, I don't want to end up in Winnipeg.
Right.
You can trade me.
that's fine but i want to have some say over where i go which turns into the baseball scenario
which is what i think's going to happen to the nchals you're the the the teams that are
can you hear that james we're we're under siege here they're doing construction work outside
and the building's literally shaking so part in our distracted we're starting to be a little worried
that they all come crumbling down
Luke was going to come down type of thing.
Yes.
Some guy in a vest will be standing there.
That's exactly what's happening out there.
It's exactly literally.
You know what, though.
I see what you're saying.
I just, I look at it.
You know, Stan Bowman was asked about it the other day because he traded Victor
Arbotson to Boston.
And that wasn't on his list.
So he had a no move or no trade.
And he said a lot of times the players are competitive and they know it doesn't work in their scenario and they want to move on.
So you work together because somebody flat out asked them.
Like you gave no moves to all these guys you signed and now you're having to work to get out from underneath them.
And he said, yes, it's a bargaining chip when somebody wants to sign for term with the organization where you want to give them some flexibility to buy a house here or stay or whatever.
But he goes in the end, if it didn't work out.
And he goes, listen, we signed a few guys that didn't work out.
And the only reason I'm bringing him up is because I like the philosophy that he had.
He said, he goes, the player wants to play.
The player wants the best situation for them to excel if it's not in your situation.
So he said, we sat down with Victor Robertson and said, you know what?
Like it didn't work out here?
Where do you want to go?
These are the options we have.
And he goes, they worked it out.
So I think that's the biggest thing when it comes to something like Rasmus is it's hard when it's the agent doing the talk in, the manager and that sometimes the player does have to get involved.
And I think it's where the relationship, I think Craig Conroy and the Calgary Flames organization, yes, I'm biased, but I think they're very classy.
And I think, you know, Craig Craig and Donnie and now my buddy, Peter Hanlon has to be included in all the management talk now.
you know, all the people involved, I think there is like a kind of happy medium where you can go,
okay, these are the options we have.
We'd like to move you here.
We'd like to move you there.
What do you make of it?
And I think, unfortunately, you've got to put the work in to find out what the best situation is.
You're right, Red, the player might just go, I don't want to go there.
But at some point, the organization has to go, this is the best for us.
We're trading you here.
If you don't want to sign an extension, we're going to get a lesser offer.
That so be it, but you are going there.
And if it's not on his no trade list or whatever.
At some point, you have to put your business hat on and say, I'm doing what's best for the Calgary Flames.
And you are not going to be a part of the equation moving forward.
That's fine.
You put in your time.
We respect you.
We love you.
But in the end, I've got to get Picks, prospects, a live young prospect for you.
I am going to move you to L.A.
I am going to move you to name a team.
A team out east.
Rangers.
Kianjay Miller.
Let's do it.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, that ship sailed, right?
I know.
I was hoping.
But there, you know, like that's something where you look at, you know,
it's an opportunity where you look around the league and you say,
okay, this is the best offer.
And you're right.
If you could bake in an extension, then you get more.
more for it. But right now, I don't know. Is his value at an all-time high right now?
No, he's coming off of the year. I don't understand what his value is. I don't know.
I mean, you think he's a top four defense with making four and a half. That's should be quite valuable.
Sounds valuable to me, right shot? Right? To me, it's very valuable because you could go through
the league and he can pretty much play for every team. Yeah. And, and, and, and, and be in their top four,
you know, without, notwithstanding a couple,
a couple of teams that are very deep.
Like Dallas needs a guy like Rasmus so badly.
Like a second pair, right shot guy.
Big time.
There's not a lot of teams that don't need an upgrade on a right shot defenseman.
It's tough, though, because then you look at a team like L.A.,
like they had a need, but now they've spent $6 million or $7 million on C.C.
and Dumlin.
So they don't, right.
At the deadline, they don't need him.
Well, if they spent their money.
If there was a chance to get Rasmus,
you could just get one of those contracts and take more.
Like, it's not at the end of the world.
Yeah, you're right.
They've spent the money.
Yeah.
They've spent the money thinking that he wasn't coming.
So it's like, okay, we've got to move on.
Like these managers have to move on when, you know, and build their team.
I mean, you don't have to build it day one and then head to the lake.
But I think at the end of the thing, at the end of the day, too, you're looking at
at free agency.
It was pretty thin.
I just, I think his values high.
I, maybe I'm wrong.
I really think he's,
He's a player that, you know, can do power, can play power play, play five on five.
He's got chip to his game.
Yeah, maybe it was a down year for him, but I still think there's lots there.
I think there's a great opportunity for him in a contract year to come out and have a hell of a season.
As long as he stays healthy, he should be very sought up after the deadline.
The problem becomes, the problem becomes last year is the example.
What happens if they're battling?
Oh, we're eighth in the one.
and it's the trade deadline.
What are you going to do?
You're going to move them?
Yeah.
I remember having a conversation
with a guy on this show
that wanted to trade
for a bunch of people
and add to the doubt.
Hey, if you had gone and added a 30 goal defense
or forward when I said to do it
where they would have made the playoffs,
they wouldn't have been.
The two guys beside you were ready to fight you over it too.
They told me not to trade Rasmus.
They don't know what to.
It's the ebbs and flows.
of the season.
But if, okay,
they loop this in times.
In hindsight, then here's the hypothetical hindsight.
Should you have traded them at the deadline last year?
Yes.
Yes.
100%.
Okay.
But you were, you know, you were in a playoff spot or close and you went for it and
it came up short.
But the thing is, and then if, if the return isn't there, we talked about this
yesterday, you would assume it's a good thing for teams.
Well, you'd have them for two playoff runs.
Not every team operates that way.
They don't want to, two years down, we got contracts.
We have to extend so and so and so.
All I'm saying is if the return wasn't good,
while we trade them for a second and a fifth,
you'd be like, well, fuck, you should have waited until next year at the deadline.
You're right.
But I think if it's within reason, they should have done it because now it,
I think it is a distraction.
One of your top defensemen is clearly said,
we have no future together.
Like, we're dating, but there's no future.
We already know we're not getting married.
That's, this is not a long way.
We'll stay together for the summer, but then I don't want to call.
I like your lake and I like your boat.
So it kind of works for now.
What's the leaves start turning colors?
This is over.
So to me, this is the crucial thing for Connie here is you can wait.
Sure you can't.
But why don't you just chart a course?
That's what I don't think the team's doing.
So rather than say, oh, but if we're good, look, maybe we do.
But if we're bad, well, here's the thing.
If you move Rasmus, you're getting worse.
And then Nassum-Codry,
looks around, he says, I signed here to be competitive. And then you're looking to Blake Coleman.
It's like, hey, buddy, you got two years left. You'd be a great at a contender. Like, the flames need to
choose a path at some point. They can't just let contracts expire and move them when they become
UFAs. Like, you are allowed to make a bold decision that charts your course. And if you make that
decision with Rasmus this summer, you're going to pick much higher in a very good draft year where
you have Vegas first and your own and there's a generational guy at the top. Do not be afraid to
make a bold decision here. Yeah, it's fair.
It's a fair argument because you're right.
This is a generational player that's available.
You look around the conference and the division.
Teams have gotten, you know, I think Vancouver will have a bounce back here.
You know, you look at it.
So there's a team that missed that could make it.
You know, Vegas got better, obviously.
You know, I don't know what Adamton's doing.
They're not, that's still working progress, but they're not going anywhere.
Like as far as a playoffs.
They're not a playoff team for sure.
So, so I mean, I'm saying that you look at it.
If you believe you might not be a playoff team next year, it doesn't make sense to get 96 points again.
Yeah.
It makes sense to get 81 and play meaningful hockey for young players, right?
Like to see if some young players can take the next step and see what you got in-house.
That's why I liked Connie's deadline.
I think he's like we got young players
are going to battle for spots.
I want to see what we have.
Like he didn't go blowing his brains out
for trying to chase a $8 million free agent, right?
But the deadline or free agency day, sorry.
No, I'm saying free agency.
Sorry, free agency.
He didn't go chase in the players, right?
Like he didn't go, you know,
he wasn't in on Nick Eilers.
Not that any, not that he would have been.
But, you know, I think.
I don't dislike what he's done.
I just think that for us,
I still don't see a clear path on what they're trying to do.
To me, it's, to me, it looks like he's trying to thread a needle,
and that's a tough needle to thread.
Because you're most likely landing spot is the worst place to finish.
Exactly.
Because you're not debilitating your team to a certain extent to allow you to get you an
influential draft pick,
and you're probably not quite good enough to go up against the other teams in this division
to secure yourself a playoff spot.
Yeah.
Like I look at the wildcard team, St. Louis and Minnesota,
and I'm like, they're quite a bit better than this team.
St. Louis just had Pugh's suitor.
Minnesota's got all that capsaries they can finally use.
I think Utah is better.
Anaheim's better.
San Jose can be better.
And the flames basically are running everyone back saying, yeah, we're a tie break away.
It's like, right, but you were also a bad month of goaltending away from a top 10 pick
that you gave to Montreal instead.
Yeah, that's the biggest wild card is if the goalie comes back and has an average.
year.
Perfect.
If there's a reset, just not a reset, but if the league starts to figure him out a little
bit, if he has a dip in his play, what does it look like?
It looks a little bit, right?
That's fair to say.
10 pick, yeah.
Right?
But that might come organically.
Yeah.
Not not like flushing people.
It might just come organically going, hey, we're going, hey, we're going to play hard.
They use the term here in Toronto.
the first couple years of those young players
or the core four was the dignified tank, right?
It was like they were in every game, but they...
Babcock era.
Yeah, the Babcock era, right?
Speaking of Toronto,
my thoughts on Toronto are they're not as good a team,
but they're more of a playoff team.
And is that what Tree is trying to do?
I think so, but I still got work to do.
I know, but do you think that they're a team
that's not destined to make the playoffs?
No, no.
Exactly.
So again, they're a team
that's probably going to make the playoffs.
And I think they're better situated to play in the playoffs.
I just want to see where he spends his money.
You know, I, like, yes, the Marner thing you got to deal with and all of that
and you had to deal with it.
But I look at the teams that were in the finals, like they have puck moving defensemen,
people that can move the puck.
Rasmus Anderson.
Nazim Kandri.
There's a guy.
Like, those are the, you know, if you probably had a wish list for Toronto,
it's probably those two guys.
right?
Because, you know, now NAS can plug into the two-hole and push Tavares down or vice versa.
Or whatever.
It's just a nice, yeah.
They would be versatile.
And Rasmus would be able to run a power play that will be absent of Mitch Martin.
Right.
And I think Rasmus is a puck-moving guy where if you look at all six of Toronto's defensemen,
outside of Morgan Riley, who is offensive, but he's not super creative, if that makes sense.
Yep.
You've got Tannave.
We all love Chris Tenev, but we know he's limited as far as on the offensive side.
Brandon Carlo, same thing.
But if you spotted Anderson and Codry into that lineup,
you're a cup contender.
It looks real good, doesn't it?
I mean, I think they're good already, Toronto.
Okay.
You're 100% right.
who the hell are you giving up?
I don't know.
The cap's got to work and you got to find,
they don't have the next two firsts.
They have a zero to give.
They got a kid named Easton Cowan.
Great.
You know what?
But like,
I think they need to rely on Cowan to probably make this team,
you know,
to keep the cap in order.
And you want to have young players push through.
But like,
they've got nobody.
They traded Fraser Minton at the deadline last year.
That was their other young.
prospect. They've got nobody on defense that are really significant coming. Their
goal-tending is for the now. They've got a Russian, I'm not even going to butcher, I'm going to
butcher his name. They just call him Artie. It's Artimov or something like that. He's like 22,
21-22. He's good. And I think he's got a chance to be real good, but ways away.
Like I just, their cupboards are bare.
And that's after years and years of going at the deadline and getting Nick Folino and
and adding other players that they needed to do.
They had to package a first rounder to Carolina just to take Patrick Marlowe's contract
away.
Like they've, there's been years of going all in at the deadline.
And Trees had to kind of, he inherited that.
He didn't create that.
He inherited that.
So I, you're right.
If there was a wish list for Trey.
Toronto, two players are on Calgary for sure.
I just, I don't know how you get them there.
Like, I just, I, I, I, I, I don't see any currency that would make the Calgary
flames better.
And, and, and.
You never buy the cap.
Except for cap space.
And the cap space is going to be tough to use because it's hard to get guys to come.
You're not, okay, so does Rasmus Anderson want to go there?
Does you want to go to another, you know, Canadian city or does he want to go south of the board?
I don't know.
Like that's the thing.
Is he on the no trade?
Let's assume he's not.
Does he want to sign an extension there?
Does Tree want to sign him to an extension?
Then it becomes that whole conversation again,
because you're going to get less for him for the rest of one season than you wouldn't
extension.
I just, I look at it.
Yes, it comes back to the word creative.
You have to be super creative.
But just, you know, there's other teams that would covet Cadrean Anderson.
I'll tell you that.
There's a lot of teams that would.
you know what it's and i don't know if it's going to work for them but i thought what montreal did
you know what that's pretty bold yes you've got two first round picks you were again flame fans
know how they got the eye pretty savvy you know we're going to take both of them and a play okay
and a player done we want take the defense okay we've got an extra defense we're going to take one of
our young highly touted prospects off to st louis for a guy that was a rookie let holy shit like
those are huge moves.
Have you seen that list that Montreal has 25 and under?
Yeah.
It's pretty impressive.
Now, they've been building this for four or five years, fellas, but it is.
But they've done the bold move of making the statement.
And who's had success in this league not being bold lately?
You can say Florida was very bold.
Were they not?
They went and got Bobrowski for Chen, Kachuk for 100, like massively bold.
Vegas, are they, have they?
Probably the last team that wasn't
old is Washington just because they were built
and they were like.
Yeah, St. Louis maybe.
But I, you're right.
I read the way, if you look at it,
I saw it in a tweet, but it looked,
it was a reputable account.
The way that Vegas has been built.
It's all by like trades and
and like signing free agents
and stuff. Like there's no, there's like
one drafted and developed guy.
It's Dora Dorepia for whatever his name is.
Like, like,
everybody else has come from somebody else.
Like that's been a bullish way.
But you're right.
You do it want to be bold.
I love what Montreal did.
Dobson's a hell of a player.
And you put him with Hudson.
Well, their decor is unbelievable now.
And young.
Yeah.
The hard part will be keeping them all together probably.
And the proper tank boys,
they had a first overall pick that's Lafkowski.
They had Reimbacher in the top five.
They could have Mishkov there.
But like they committed to rebuilding.
This team to this point.
And they use the cap space, the Monaghan.
Yeah, sure.
They took advantage of it.
But if you have to be in tank mode to do those things,
this team needs to take a step further, in my opinion.
Well, I agree.
And I think that's why I kind of said,
now let's park the Anderson conversation for a second.
That's why I said, like, November is going to,
the dust will settle with a lot of teams.
It's organically, it could start slow when you go,
okay, we can see that you want to talk about charting a path.
There's pathways that will just chart themselves where you're like,
you can see where this ship is headed, right?
And that's where you start to.
Now, if you can get ahead of it and be creative and be bold,
have in our lifetime, or at least in this last 15, 20 years,
I don't think the flames have ever rebuilt, correct?
They did.
They did kind of because they had spent it, Monahan, Kachuk,
Who was the other?
Yeah.
Monahan at 6, Bennett at 4.
If Bennett had played better here and guys had wanted to stay, I mean,
Gidrole was a fourth round.
They did have,
and that's when they had the most success noodles.
Yeah.
The fact that guys wanted to leave is what derailed that.
If Bennett turns into what he is in Florida,
in Calgary,
they've got Monaghan, Bennett,
Bacclan down the middle, who else?
Like, they were situated for.
Yeah.
They were built, tree built to a certain extent, and then was told we have to dismantle.
Well, they also weren't consistent enough.
They never made the playoffs back-to-back years of that core, which is ludicrous.
You'd have a great year, win the West, miss the next year, win the Pacific the next year.
Like, it was just, they were two up and down.
They ran through coaches way too quickly.
And obviously some of them was unforeseen with Bill Peters shit.
But, you know, that was a group that could have been good.
But really, they were wildly inconsistent and got to game five of round two.
That was their peak.
It's not good enough.
Yeah, no, you're right.
But then it fell apart.
Do you know what I mean?
That might have been the stepping stone of...
I guess my question is you can rebuild in a Canadian city.
Right?
It all just has.
Toronto has.
You have to.
Ottawa has.
Toronto has, yeah.
Like, and you can see that there is success that has come out of it if you've done it right.
Like, okay, you can throw stones at Toronto, but they've made the playoffs nine years in a row.
and being a 100-point team.
And, you know, yes, the lack of playoff success, that's on them.
But the team has been constructed to at least give them an opportunity.
Ottawa, you started to see the fruits of their labor.
You know, it took a little longer, but that core looks poised to take another step.
And they've got, he added star power in.
Jake Sanderson, for me, is a star.
I think Tim Stoetzel is a star.
And then you've got a real good supporting cast.
Montreal, I think, is poised to be a really damn good team.
Right.
And what's the biggest piece the teams that need to rebuild miss?
It's a cheeky question and it's like, well,
goaltending.
Well, yeah, you need a goal.
You don't win without goaltending.
Guess what you got here.
You got a goal here.
You got a goalie.
And that doesn't mean that you can't rebuild.
And I think you should.
But you've got the base to build off of.
That's the, that's their best asset to.
take this and go yes because
Dustin Wolf isn't going to turn into a
shit burger I don't believe in four
years when the rest of those kids
finally start to show that they're right
and now you've got a guy in your back end
that's saving your ass on the days that
you have off like
the one piece that
all the teams want is the
goaltender to take them over the top
the goaltender's got to be good
hardest piece to find
yeah you're right the goal he has to be good
and you need like super
power.
Yeah, like a one.
Yes.
You can't just meet, you can't have mid-level stars.
Like you need superstar power, right?
Like that's, now, I mean.
If you want to be consistently good, you can go on a one-year run and take a stab at it with a great goaltender.
It happens where guys get on a roll and they come together.
I've experienced it.
It does happen, but it doesn't establish a 10-year plan of consistent.
We're really good.
And that's what we want.
And that's what I keep harping on from my point of view is I don't want a one year run.
I don't want the song and dance.
Well, you just got to get in and anything.
F that.
Let's be good.
Let's be Tampa Bay where we're like, we're making a playoffs.
And we're going to be really good.
And we're a cup contender every year for a decade.
Yeah, sustainable.
I want a decade of really.
That comes back to, I use this term way too much, the spine of the team.
Yeah.
So who's your number one center, your number one D?
your number one goal tender,
and you build out around that.
That's why I thought Vancouver was in good shape for many years.
And they might be.
You got the goalie.
You got the defenseman.
And I thought the forward Pedersen,
now they've wavered.
But if you, like,
if that whole team showed up this year,
healthy and playing to the mentality,
that's a pretty darn good team, the spine of it, right?
Like that's the biggest challenge is,
You mentioned Tampa.
Tampa's got the goalie.
Tampa's got the defenseman.
Tampa has multiple forwards, you know, in point.
And then Kuturov.
That Gensel, you're adding for fun.
And that's where Mick Paul can, you know, sign a seven-year deal as your third-line center,
you know, farther down at $3 million a year.
Like that's the way that teams are built now.
They've dispersed the money a little bit better.
And you have a spine of the team.
And you can say it's bold or it's mismanagement.
Like Ottawa's finally coming.
Like you, I just, you have to take stabs at it.
And the threading the needle that I think the flames are trying to do is just, oh,
well, the chew that drops then will be an Anderson trade,
depending on when that is, right?
Yeah.
The sooner they do it, the more charted their path is.
That I firmly believe.
But that's just it.
You know it's coming.
Yeah.
It seems silly to delay it.
take 90% of the return I want to just start the process of making my pick in the McKenna year
better. I don't want to have three months of Rasmus helping this team tread water. I'd rather
take on some water and pick high. Well, and it allows you to go, is anyone interested in
cadre and the other like, yes. Like how is what are we doing here? They did one hell of a job
battling and playing hard for for Huska last year. And I think coaching was good. And goaltending was good.
And everyone battle. Awesome. It was way better than any of us.
ever dream. But they're rolling back to the same team that the year before, everyone was like,
well, the betting, bet $1.81.5 points. That was the over under. Right. And, and there's no
well, that's not true. You hope per rec, I guess. But that's the thing. When you talk about
your spine, you feel like you've got it in net. You might have it on the back end. They're missing
a young, great center. That's what they're missing boys. They need a superstar center. And then it's,
that's a team. You can work around.
I mean, I don't think they drafted them on Friday night.
That's probably their number two.
Probably a good player.
It's somewhere in the mix of those kids.
You kind of build it out.
But I don't think.
Where's the Star Center?
Top of the draft.
That's where you get those guys.
Yeah.
It's rare you trade for them.
Like Jack Eichel was an outlaw.
Yeah.
It's really rare.
It's Thornton.
It's Eichel.
It's almost never.
It's a guy with a DUI.
It's always damaged goods to go get a number
one center in trade because they just don't move. Yeah, you're right. It is. But you know what?
You seem very relaxed. You know, you're out of the season. Like I can just, there's a vibe about
you right now. You know, it's my this is, look at you. You know why I'm very relaxed? Because this is
the last work I'm doing for the summer. Because you're as high as a kite or, uh,
You microdosing?
Yeah.
What's going on?
Because there you are.
You're not going to do color in Tampa Bay tonight and then off to Edmonton tomorrow and do an overdrive this and the panel that.
Look at you.
I am.
I'm relaxed.
I am.
No, it's good.
I mean, it's been, it was a long 10 months.
Like, think about it.
I go right till July 1st.
And I'm pretty much, like you say, all over the map.
So I am doing some self-inflicted.
pain this weekend but that's like I say that's my choice so outside of that we might now have
to have you on next week just yeah I might need you next what day's good next Wednesday
no I would I have not Wednesday's no good Tuesday or Thursday you let us know I fly back Tuesday I'm
I'm actually going to be in Alberta and then cheese toast look at this guy there might be some
cheese toast in that see I remember it's just got his big birthday
Now he's coming out west.
Rhett gets his cheese toast.
We'll love you,
and we'll have you,
whenever you're bored and you take that week off
and you're relaxing.
I will be on whenever you need me.
My point being is that you're right.
Like,
I'm not chasing a clock.
Yeah.
We called you last week on your birthday.
And there's an account on X that goes through us.
So here's former and current and just NHL or hockey people
born on this day in particular history.
He's like, oh, look, there's noodles.
And they generally throw up one of their hockey cards or a photo.
And this is the one that accompanied Jamie McLennan and his birthday last week.
Oh, wow.
Look at the mullet.
Deadly.
Oh, yeah.
You look like a newborn baby chick.
You're all fuzzy.
I was just going to say like disoriented.
You remember the stuff you put on your stick?
It was called dry grip.
That's where it was in my hair.
There's no, like no gel, no nothing.
Like, how nervous are you?
First year in the NHL.
Look at how terrified I am.
I'm skating around going, I am one bad goal away from being in the net,
and you don't want to see that.
So that's how terrified I was.
But I did look pretty good, actually.
You had Richie Pilon.
Your ears always your ears and your nose never stopped growing.
See, my ears are about half the size rate.
That's true, yeah.
I didn't notice that.
You are a bit older, hey?
Those are getting reggae size.
That's impressive.
Exactly.
I looked like Reggie there.
So who would have been playing in net that night?
Who were you backing up?
Exie.
Wow.
Yeah.
And who knows?
Like I, one time we were in St. Louis at that old building, like the arena.
I think I've got a picture of it here in my office somewhere.
Jack won't let you show it anyway.
We can't be endorsing the St. Louis.
Anyways, but.
the backup goalie had to sit behind in the Zamboni entrance, behind St. Louis's net.
And we're about 10 minutes into the game and we're losing 3-0 and Hexie, the wires crossed for Hexie.
And he attacks Peter Nedved.
And I remember sitting there going, okay, this is not good.
And the bench is far, far away.
And I see Al Arbor like pointing to me, like waving me and I'm like, oh, my God.
God. So the Zamboni driver just pops it open and I got to skate out and Kudjo goes, good luck, kid. I skate by Kudjo.
And I remember being so, things were so fast. Adam Oates to Brett Hall one timer. Zing. I was still looking behind the net and Holly had hit me in the shoulder.
I was like, oh my God. What a save. Holy shit. We ended up.
coming back and tying 5-5 that night. That's all I remember.
Fellas play for noodles. We know that. So they didn't.
He was, they tossed him from the game. He went crazy. He was chasing Peter and Edbed around
the ice. So I don't know. That's, that's probably my fear was like, what's he going to do tonight.
That's probably what I was thinking. Well, yeah, you'd have to be on your bet. You'd have to be ready
because it could be bad goals or just he snaps. Hey, we're up four to nothing. Oh, I guess I'm going in.
Yeah. Hexie's taking his clothes off again.
Yeah. He's had enough. He's had enough.
Hexie was amazing, though.
If you knew him, he's the exact opposite of what you'd think.
He's a family guy, mild mannered, very quiet, very funny, like really quick-witted.
But you get him near a rink, and it's like a Jekyllin.
You know what?
He's got a little D. Sutter in him.
Like, he's got the, you know how Daryl Sutter, it just, it's what you see one and then you see
the other.
Like, that's what Hexie was like, just ultra-competitive.
And he taught me that I will say.
say this. The one thing I loved about Hexie, and I told him this last year, I ran into him in the
rig. Like, he taught me how to work. You thought, you know, everybody gets the NHL or gets
your pro hockey and you think you know how to work. Like, it's not even close. This guy,
this guy worked every day, every puck, every, in practice, they'd score on him. He'd take the
puck and fire it into the stands. He would be mad. Like, he was such a competitor, and he actually
taught me how to work, which I loved.
I respected him so much for that.
So love Hexie.
So when they opened those Zamboni doors,
they didn't start playing Enter Sandman,
have a smoke machine like Mariano Rivera when you come out?
Oh, it was like,
did, dint, dittal, little,
yeah.
The kaleidepe's music.
Yeah, yeah.
I was like, oh my God,
I just, I've never been so scared.
Like that was, because that was early,
pretty early in my career, I think, too,
because I got called up around Christmas.
So the second half I spent with the team.
And back then you're still flying commercial.
There was some weird stuff going on back then.
And I remember that particular day in St. Louis, they would bring out plated meals for you.
So it wasn't a buffet.
You didn't go and get a chicken.
And there was a guy carrying out like four half chickens on.
on a plate and he leaned over, I used to sit with Hexie, he leaned over to give
Hexie or to give me one and he dumped the whole chicken on Hexie.
And Hexie, Hexie just looked at me and he said, you'd be ready.
I'm going to kill somebody tonight.
And sure enough, he was chasing, 10 minutes in, he's chasing Peter Nedbet around.
Honestly, I'll never forget.
that. He was, the waiter, the person who was serving was so rattled. Oh, yeah. And, heck, he had like
this brand new suit on and the guy could jump a full chicken on it. It's awesome. Well, I look forward to
hearing about how your stamina is at the stampede. Do you feel like you're confident you've got
your top of your game? I've got a few meetings there. So I'm going to, you know, maybe one night and just
and relax.
I don't know.
You know how it's like,
it's Frank the tank.
It touches your lips and you see what he's.
Yeah.
Next thing you're streaking the quad.
Yeah.
Red was having a swimming contest on Canada Day in the wake.
I was at a golf tournament in Evanton or in St.
Albert last Friday and kind of just did a 15 minutes speech or whatever emceed.
And I did a Q&A and out of left field because they were like,
you know, you're in Evanston or what are the oilers?
going to do blah blah blah and you're talking and then somebody goes anybody got a rookie dinner story
or he goes what's the crazy rookie dinner story you have i go i got one for you so i threw that guy
right under the bus thank you they love me in ed but i couldn't remember the name of the restaurant
was it butterfly eight or so underfield eight yeah i thought it was butterfield 11 like i was like
because we had hats and everything from them.
Yeah.
Like there was a tiny guy that did a table dive that did not go horizontal or,
no, vertical.
Yeah.
This way landed on it.
So it didn't go well.
But yeah, so I told that story.
So if people reach out to you, then it's all right.
I let the cat out of the bag.
Well, you're right.
You are beloved in Edmonton.
Yes.
Yeah.
Very loved.
Noodles.
Appreciate you, pal.
Thanks guys. We'll chat soon. Let me know when.
We look forward to Wednesdays. It's always kind of a, oh, we got noodles today. It's always
kind of a sigh of relief. We saw what we look forward to and the people love it because
there's no one else quite like you. All right. Well, appreciate it. So yeah, reach out when you,
like I say, I'm available whenever. I'm always there's guys.
Cheese toast. Love it. Love you guys. Have a good one. He is the best.

The best storytell.
Right?
Like, you just, here's a picture.
Two, three, four stories.
I dumped the chicken and he flipped out and I had to go in.
And I, uh, oh, any driver.
Jesus, unbelievable.
Everybody loves that guy.
He's the best.
Yeah, he's the best.
I still don't know if he answered or got, when I said about to sign him and trade him.
Right?
Because you're like, that's a dick move.
You can't.
It is.
You could do it.
a dick move and that's fun. You could do that if you want. Yeah, I think it would be very rare.
I feel like maybe the player would be able to sniff it out. So when are we doing this press conference?
Ah, we're not doing one. What? Yeah. I'm going to unveil this? I could fly back. No, no,
we don't need you to come back to sign. As soon as a pen is to paper. It's like, okay, well,
we've traded you. There's no press. It's such an asshole. So you don't even let it sit or
no. Signed, stamped by the league, done. Out. You put the, the, you, you have, the, you
filed a contract and right below that fax is the next one through right yeah no they send an
extra page nope they just traded them holy fudge yeah still using the fax machine i guess not rot scanning
yes no doc you sign we're still using the fax machine that's good and you really hope your agent's
wife knows how to run the fax machine at 1130 before the cb a trade changes at midnight gotcha get that thing
seems oddly specific.
I'm not exactly sure how this.
I think it got in.
What?
You know, we don't need to get too deep into it
because we'll do the Pinder report that's summer.
But I feel like the word tank.
So, oh, you're going to tank.
I feel like if you tank,
it gives the impression that you were destined for something much greater,
but you pulled the rug out for reasons that people may not understand or appreciate.
it wouldn't be a tank here it's a recognition it would be embracing reality yeah it would
just be where's your you love science dean i fucking love science and ryan you're an analytics
nerd i'm a huge nerd for so let's just trust the science and what are your odds better with
threading the needle like they're attempting to do or going after the best players by
being crap like could you end up like buffalo sure do you think conroy's an idiot like some of the guys that have been running things in buffalo no i don't i really don't
you could also end up like colorado and have some cars what about the other option of yeah being really good
number one center that scores 50 goals all we like stars and still tickets in a new rink i because if you've been a fan for any amount of time in this town
you've watched teams ever in the history of the of the of the
team has there been a top three pick ever ever but you've watched teams that were old with your
yokanans and tangays and whatever and be not good and missed the playoffs and you've seen other teams
that have young players that have been exciting and and missed the playoffs yeah what's worse
what's worse at least with when the young guys are learning like you say they're getting some
experience and they're learning that they hate to lose and how to win and all that sort of stuff.
I just, to say it's a tank feels like, well, we could, we could be good, but we're going to go
this way. It's not that. It's just recognizing what seems to be the common sense situation here.
It is saying mediocrity is not what we're going to stand for. You can't turn this team into
greatness, but you can absolutely go get young players. Don't finish ninth in the West again.
If you finish 9th in the West, you fail.
I'm sorry, if you get 90 to 95 points again,
that is the worst possible outcome this year.
Because right now, and it's not how you want to build your team,
but you think we always point to Buffaloes and how many,
how many players have Calgary on their no trade?
What is the incentive to come here right now?
The rank is old.
It's changing, but right now, rink is old.
You miss the playoffs.
You don't have a superstar that's, you're,
oh, come play with Celebrini.
No.
You don't have that.
that so i just it can change but you need to make the changes in order for all of that to come
around if suddenly you have a new rink and a nice city and it's u.s dollars in you're in a canadian
market and fans you love to win that sort of thing and you can play with some stars chance to
win then it can turn in a hurry but it is is feaster intellectual honesty i remember we had
frank on he was talking about you're going to have to make like a blood oath with yourself yes
If you carry Anderson into the season.
I will not keep him as matter of time.
We are trading him.
Yes.
Regardless, we're not going to get sucked in and lured by any potential success we
think we're going to have.
We can be chasing a playoff spot where we're going to trade.
It's nearly impossible to do.
It just seems so very clear and it's always easier from where we sit.
Yep.
We don't have budgets and we don't see the bottom line and we don't understand what.
And we don't have marching orders.
The team and bottom five.
does to attendance.
But again, if your goal is to win a cup,
this is all very clear.
If your goal is to make it a certain amount of money,
this gets trickier.
But if your goal is to win a Stanley Cup,
it is so clearly obvious what you have to do.
I'm looking at flights?
No.
Recipes?
Stakes.
Oh.
I'm looking at that 3-65.
What are the odds for next thing?
Flames to make the plus 3.2.
Oh.
That's what it's paying, right?
Plus 220.
Yeah.
Like that's the translation is that so they're a long shot to make plus that sounds right like look at the eight teams that we're in that's my point you know the research on it they're real real good at this stuff just they're pretty good and there's some years where okay it's not close and that was last year for this group but a lot went right and a lot of the teams that weren't that great are going to be better or they were good or going to be better this year and initial futures Vegas Colorado Dallas L. L.A. Winnipeg.
And the other kicker is even if you commit to it and say,
all right, we're going to try and trade our older guys and get,
there's still no guarantees.
Young guys may play well.
It's not, it's, you have to do it.
You have to do it.
Yep.
And I don't think that this is breaking news to the flames.
I think Conrad knows this.
And I think he's doing his best to how do I make this Anderson trade the best for the
flames?
and it might take a few weeks of Rasmus being at home and working on a list with Craig.
Let's find three markets that A want you and B, you'd extend with.
And then I cannot have to get bent over.
Jesus Christ, if we haven't done that already.
He's got that already, I would guess.
This seems take time.
Yes or no?
What do you?
Wow, how much time do they need?
They traded numbers a couple weeks ago.
So I would think you give Rasmus some time to talk to his family and go home.
If you've paused it out that long, then you've got yourselves to blame for it.
Like, if you didn't know all this shit before,
the draft, shame on both of you.
I just remember when Hannafin was up and it was leaked by one of the inside.
Oh, it was preferred destinations Tampa.
And it was like, oh, shit.
Like Tampa doesn't have a lot of prospects.
They've traded all their firsts.
Like, they got the rights of this Isaac Howard who's in college.
I don't know.
Like, he's the best process.
That's not very good.
It didn't end up going to Tampa.
And so things change, things evolve.
He resigns in Vegas, a place that at Tampa time,
no one thought he doesn't say anything.
about Vegas. Right now it feels like Vegas is the only place because that's all we've heard.
There's other things we don't know. And I would be stunned if there isn't a short list that Craig
and Rasmus are both trying to make it a win for everyone. Yeah, but yeah, okay, you're right.
But you were kind of alluding that they should sit down and figure this. I feel like if they had
done. But yeah, I think some people are framing this out in the Twitter scape, which is an awful
place for rational thought. That it's just like, well, he's already made it. Vegas or Boston. Now
the flames are screwed. It's like, well, no, there's still time for this to go exactly.
how it should. Where the flames can have a big win,
Rasmus can have a big win and go where he wants.
And everyone looks back. It says, that was
a great decade we spent together and it ended well.
Rasmus playing elsewhere
than Calgary is not going to be a shock
to his system. No, as soon as they
He should be very prepared for the notion
that he's going to be moving in the next year.
Yeah, so.
Two weeks. They've known that.
How about we think about it sooner than later?
Yeah. And you just hope
that a deal is there that makes sense.
And if it's not, you're even worse for that draft pick next year.
It helps you anyway.
You've got to get a deal done.
Bontan meets.
Bontan season.
Guess what I'm going to see tonight.
Are you?
Off the shelf.
Back and healthy.
Activated off IR.
Yeah.
Our buddy Greg says he's not 100%, but he could probably lift a beer, so that's good.
He said it better every day?
Yeah.
So went buying supplies yesterday?
He's right to rock.
He's a good healer.
Good healer.
And a hell of a meat.
meat head he's big meat knows his way around a cow that guy yeah i could stick my head up a butcher's
ass but uh that's not the one you're not uh 28 crowfoot circle in the northwest it is bontan meat
market triple a alberta beef the very best locally raised fresh pork free range chicken and turkey
alberta lamb you're having a fourth of july deal tomorrow jack's having a bunch of people over
at his house or he's actually coming into work sorry to him sorry about them then then
store-made salads, desserts, meat pies.
We love them.
You love them. And if you don't, you should.
Do you want the menu tonight?
24 consecutive years as the
Consumer's Choice Award winner for Calgary and Southern Alberta
for best meat and deli.
24 years.
Sloppy Joe's, potato salad,
fruit, cocktails.
Just a little bit everything.
It's good.
It's nice.
Are you ready?
Are you ready?
Eddie Jack.
Hell yeah.
I've been looking forward to this all week.
Get your stamp shirt on today?
I'll wear it later.
Yeah, I'll get 28 Crowford Circle in Northwest.
Sloppy Joe's, oh, yeah.
Sloppy Joe, slops.
Are you kids?
I know you like your sloppy Joe's extra sloppy.
Lady, you're scaring us.
Flames have the 11th worst odds to North Flats.
Which, again, is kind of that murky middle.
11 to 16 range.
Okay, so who are the other 10?
San Jose.
Chicago.
Chicago, Pittsburgh.
Yeah.
Like, I feel like San Jose could turn it up here.
They were good at the end of the year, right?
Those, it's a long way to go from 50 some points.
But it's conceivable that it might not be that.
They will be much better, but they're not knocking on the doors.
It's just for making a playoffs.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So San Jose, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Boston, Anaheim, Buffalo.
No kidding.
Utah be close to them.
Detroit, Philly, Columbus.
That frigging Utah team's another one you talk about
because when we were talking about Montreal, the under-25s.
Utah is way better odds.
Suzuki 25, Cofield's still 24.
Slapkovsky's 21.
Kirby Doc, 24.
Demadov 19.
That's Zach Bulldoof.
They traded for.
He's 22 in the back end.
Gullies 23.
Hudson 21, Dobbs and 25.
Holy shit.
Utah, much the same.
All those young.
guys are they've been picking high forever in
Arizona they've been taking picks of take people's
bad money in Arizona we'll take Pabaldatzick's
deal we'll take whenever
you know dead bodies on your LTIR
we'll take them give us picks the
cap space and lots of picks
a long time there
time for the Pinder report
thought we might sneak it in before we talked
to noodles but we didn't get it in there
no we got talking about he switched sides on
Rasmus but then took
yeah I love to bounce right you had that
He's going to do the 180, but you decided more hot takes.
Some very serious hot take.
Wait till next week.
We'll be a new angle.
Village Honda, no, you're not wrong.
Yeah.
You just never know what to expect.
Don't miss.
Don't miss an episode.
Northwest Automall online village honda.com.
The demo inventory clearout is on like new vehicles, basically new.
They've been pampered, taken such good care of.
But yet, so it's like getting a new vehicle, but then savings of up to
$4,000 for some of the demos that they've got sitting around there.
So why wouldn't you?
To me, it just makes, again, just makes comments.
It's a good sense.
Good sense.
Just good sense.
Let's head to Flames Land, where the breaking news of the last 24 hours is this gentleman re-up
for another two years.
It's Morgan Frost back in the fold.
The RFA with Arbrites signing a two-year deal worth 4.375 million.
Half million.
Signing bonus.
Enjoy Stampede.
And then he'll get an eight team no trade clause for the second and final year of the RFA deal.
It covers one unrestricted season.
And that means, of course, be a UFA at the end of the 26, 27 season.
Morgan, not quite sure what you are, but you're starting to look like a third line center for me, which is not bad.
If you did Michael Backland's work for the next eight years, that's a valuable piece.
Strong defensive metrics has never scored 20, 14 goals last.
year in 81 games across the combined results with Philly and Calgary.
And I really liked him on the power play with zone entries.
Sure.
Because he can skate.
Good hands.
But have a nice year.
Have a great year.
By all means,
feel free to get better.
Tell your friend Farabby that too.
Boy,
we talk out of both sides.
You want the team to be dead last.
You want the young guys to play well.
Hell yeah.
But you can certainly liquidate some of the over 30 fellows as you do that.
But if we want Frost to play well,
we should be saying to every play.
have a shit ear bud right that's really if if we are if we as a team are committing to the rebuild
then we should want all the players to have awful seasons how many points are they from like a
tough i pick like 10 like five wins that dust and wolf doesn't save your bacon that's that's we don't
need everyone have an awful year dean it's achievable it's very achievable be mediocre at best bud
Once with Kenneth is here, Morgan, we really want you to play well then.
Then you can ramp it up for sure.
Or come out of the gates again, just shit kicking everybody, putting up six a night,
just scrolls.
Perret has 15 points in the first five games.
Then the rest of the league is like, geez, we better pay attention to this Calgary team.
And then they start and then you're.
Yeah, you're hoped.
You still don't see Connor Hellenuck the whole year because they play the backup against you.
Okay, let's get to a signing from, well, this is interesting.
their second rounder.
Remember the most Swedish guy ever?
Theo Stuxelius.
He has been selected in the CHL import draft
by the Seattle Thunderbirds.
So he could stay with the J20,
the junior squad in Sweden that he was playing for,
or he's now got the option to come overplay in the Western League.
There's a thought he might even do it in NCAA season after that.
6-3-200 already.
An interesting story to follow over the course of the summer
to see where Stuxillius,
who I believe is in town for a rookie development camp.
where he'll play next season.
Just stay.
Just hang out, bud.
You're already here.
Yeah.
Start putting down some roots.
Martin Furk is back, Brett.
Go ahead.
That's great.
Thoughts on the stock cilious?
My brain was thinking about another kid that got drafted in that CHO.
Okay.
Former flame Marcus Nielsen's boy.
Saw that.
Portland.
What?
Where did he end up getting selected in the draft?
the NHL.
Second, Anaheim.
Nice.
We chatted with Marcus last summer on the program.
It's a lovely fellow.
Lovely fellow.
Good luck to his kid.
Keep moving.
Fork, of course, with the Wranglers last year,
27 goals and 60 points and 67 games.
He's exactly that.
An H.L finisher.
It's where a flamether is there.
Yeah, it's probably a development camp or training camp,
I should say.
He does not play in the NHL games.
You're a liar, Mr.
under guard.
Ski Moon.
Burns,
he's going to the avalanche fellas.
Remember when Ray Bork needed a cup
and he went to Denver?
Well,
Burns, he's old, he needs a cup
and he's going to Denver.
Is he taking his snakes?
Can you take all your reptiles
to Colorado or is there?
No, what the amphibian rodent
reptiles.
There's a lot of thin air.
I don't know if the snakes are sick of that.
This is unbelievable.
Burns is the only player in the NHL
who actually played in the league
when there was no salary cap.
And if you think that's cool, it gets even better
because that year that there was no salary cap,
his first year in the league,
he actually played forward,
uh,
with Mark,
against Mark Messier,
who was a WHLer.
W.H.A.
What did I say?
W.H.L.
Excuse me. Yeah, the World Hockey Association.
So yeah, he's the last guy that's ever played with a WHA player as well.
Messier and Overlept with how.
You're like two,
two guys away.
The synopsis being.
He's old and has played a long time.
Yes.
And he's closing in on Phil Kessel's Iron Man too.
Really?
Yeah.
Like, oh, it was a thousand, 27 games.
So he's,
he's, uh,
guy's been unreal.
I know the fans in Carolina were kind of like,
this guy's done.
Yeah.
He's,
uh,
he's a good player,
but he's maybe played enough.
He's not feeling that way.
No.
One million dollar deal.
It's got some.
If you paid me a million, I'd probably feel like I could do it too.
Are you, now, are you sure?
You know, you've never played in the league, though.
Are you sure you can come in here and play five, six minutes?
Fuck yeah.
When's my flight?
I love Denver.
I've always wanted to have a Denver and Denver.
Let's do it.
I'm on my way.
I love the Rockies.
How many Denver's in Denver would you do?
Oh, every day.
That's breakfast.
Yep.
And that actually sounds real good, Jack.
Why don't you get us some Denver's?
Jack, can you get us some Denver's place?
And book some flights.
And when's pizza?
four pizzas six five two 30 the 40 year old will turn 41 next march from barry ontario and yes he was 20th overall by the wild back in 2000 that's a forward
2003 were even alive jack yeah i was five no i was there when he got drafted i thought you were going to say when jack was born
It's a dumb
Knives.
I shouldn't lay a little there on there.
It's a dumb show.
We keep moving.
Pews to the blues.
That's the news of the day
as a suitor goes to St.
Lure.
I might need two of those.
Two-year deal, four million a pop.
He slides into the third line center.
Blues actually look pretty nice, fellas.
Now, remember they got.
Jim Montgomery took over, I want to say November.
They were one of the hottest teams in the NHL for the last,
whether 16-game winning streak or something like that.
Screwed the flames.
Totally screwed the flames.
Look at this lineup they built.
They put Nick Ledy on waivers.
He got claimed today by San Jose.
They've added that Mayu from Montreal.
Broberg and Holloway had huge breakout seasons.
Broberg's absolutely tough for.
Holloway was a point per game since Montgomery took over.
A phenomenal season.
That's a deep group.
they got some size, they got some physicality.
And after Four Nations, I do have to regrettably say that I like the goaltending.
They got some good, I mean, then there's some youth there, snuggeroo and Holloway and neighbors.
Torpedo?
Love torpedoes.
I do like Jordan Cairo.
Yeah.
This one slid through our fingers.
I don't know if we caught this July 1, but to the Bruins sign, Judge Judy.
known for a big yap and getting under people's skin.
I don't get it.
It makes no sense.
It's a lot of cake.
The bruns think the change of scenery is going to be good for it.
Don't say my name.
You do this all the time.
You say our names to tie us into your stupid shit.
Someone does a dumb.
Like you're happy.
She used to be a brun.
She's not even pouting half as much as Elias.
You're giving this attention.
Now, is that a good, what do you think of the term and the dollar figure?
I don't like it.
I think Cam Neely is going to be under fire for this one.
This is worse than the Zadora deal.
I kind of feel like Jack has an excuse because he said he was born in 2003 or something like that.
Like, or he was five, so he's just a young.
Yeah, he's still young and dumb.
But you're.
I'm a grown man.
And the fact, I'm in and bind this.
Well, and they put the letter on her already.
Yeah.
Alternate for sure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Leadership.
Why don't we move.
it's game day you and i have plans tonight look at this see you're going to go from judge judy to this

Okay, that's the rule. Yeah. If we get separated, just meet at Bender.
Easy enough? Never get lost. Never get lost.
Seven o'clock start. Take a master of the stamps website for more information.
Okay. Toronto Blue Jays, three in a row since Dean said, go Yankees.
You sure you're not jinxie at all? Because it's three in a row.
It's been a while since I've been in first place. They're tied with the Yankees.
Fourth of a four game set today.
Yeah, 2016 is a while ago.
Geez.
Whoa.
That was like...
Edwin.
Batista Donaldson.
Jeez.
Lights up.
Let's go.
That's what the hashtag says.
Staying with baseball.
This is a friend of the show?
Brian Swan.
This next one is Jack's big pirates guy.
We know that.
They had a beard competition for pirates fans.
Look at this.
He did the bridge in Pittsburgh.
You know, I'm kind of jealous because I can't even grow facial hair.
Oh, wow.
Wow.
The Plymany bridge in beard form.
Wow.
That's a lot of work and a lot of wax.
That's a lot of wax.
It's also a lot of time.
And that's how long that beard is without anything in it.
It's a neck tattoo.
Yeah, he does have good skull tats.
Jack, you got any bridge beards?
That this guy.
Hey, Jack, you like beards and bridges?
Best hat we've seen all year.
Sad but true.
Somebody's got a trop hat.
Drop again of field in Tampa, of course.
Trop down the street.
Jack, that must be.
Hey, Jack, you like the Trump.
Accurate.
Because that's the, that's the roof.
That's what the roof looks like.
All got all tore up.
I got tore up.
Yeah, it's the hats as trops.
You can just cut the Pindish report short too.
Like it's, it's summer.
I got a soccer goal though, and you love soccer.
Because Rats, big soccer guy, right?
All right.
Hats, beards, Judge Judy.
Soccer.

Is this you?
That's all I'm going to ask.
Is this you?
I'm sure it is.
Yeah, there I am.
Is that not uncanny, Red?
It doesn't look like.
On the left?
No.
What?
That's not to you on the left.
Because he's short and stout?
No, because that's his face.
That's Dean.
It doesn't look like Dean.
What?
Jack, yes or no.
I'll take, man, Ryan, that looks like me.
square up, like this.
Shoot, look it.
Side by side here.
It looks like, uh,
Topoganger.
It's like, no, it doesn't.
It looks like the, Jack put up a pole.
Jack's black.
It's a guy with a beard.
Well, that didn't go as well as I thought.
How did you think it was going to go?
I'd get you pissed off and it'd be good for the show.
Uh, 92.
Let's roll into, uh, Duke's a hazard.
Do you like?
We're still rolling with this.
We're on 91.
Yeah, okay.
So don't do 91 then.
Let's go 92.
No, what, it's already up.
It's already up, Jack.
Why are you skipping this?
Because they're clearly not interested in it.
If I say 92, that's saying we're skipping 91.
Oh, come on.
Come on.
Don't be 10.
I got Duke's a hazard next.
You're going to like Duke's Hazard.
You're not going to avoid.
Jack.
It's a stars fan.
My balls itch.
My balls itch.
Is that, uh, was that,
Austrian, Ukrainian?
It's from Poland.
It's stupid.
It is stupid.

If you like boozing, a couple days away tomorrow morning at 6.30 a.m.
You can legally serve alcohol in this fair city of ours for the next 10 days.
I haven't asked for permission anyway.
If I want to have a drink at 6.30, I'll have a drink.
Just have it.
Yeah, it's probably true.
They don't need men she telling me yes or no.
Now, some of these washrooms, they won't tell you men or women anymore, hey?
just put up some
well I think we still don't like that

Terry wouldn't listen.
What a laugh.
Oh, Terry.
Could have just went with that one and that one alone and it would have been awesome.
That's like Morgan Frost, Stampede, Stampede Bowl tonight.
And of course, tomorrow's the 4th of July.
There you go.
There you go.
Jack, happy 4th of July tomorrow.
We'll see you work.
Hey, Jack, you love 4th of July, Jack.
And, hey.
You can drive down to Montana, get some freedom in you after the show tomorrow?
I think about it.
Feel bad, Jackson.
Man.
Yeah.

There's a really sick whips.
sick whips.
Yeah.
New this year.
Best off make. So even if you're like,
hey, maybe I don't have a Honda or a back here.
Okay. Come on out.
Not here to judge. Don't want to be judgy.
What do I need to do here?
Just push the butt. No, I got this
because we've got the summer schedule now. We've got to make sure
everybody gets their love.
Greta?
Greta's got the live band, the Vegas, what is it, cover band, right?
That's cover band in Vegas?
What would be your, because there's a difference between a cover band and a tribute band.
Oh, cover band does different band.
We can do a bunch of different bangers.
Tribute band, you're kind of, we're stuck to the catalog.
Like the other night, I saw a hip tribute band.
Right.
Only played hip.
And who was the guy at Sportsnet that quit covering Blue J baseball to be in the Tom Petty?
tribute band what was this name barry davis very davis very davis very davis quit the blue jay beat to go
and be in a tom petty kind of way the other way he got run and then yeah
semantics maybe there you go indy florentino
fagas his best cover band july fourth july fourth fifth and sixth september fifth and
six 11 p.m. to one a.m. that's nice out in the alley grand old alley
Dude, 11 to 1.
That's perfect.
Do you see what they did there with the Grand Ole alley?
They got it going on at Greta.
Jeez.
What would your request be?
I would kind of lurk just to see what kind of.
So what are we doing here?
Yeah, what are we doing here?
Are we doing some Millie Vanilli?
Is it pop?
Mariah Carey.
It's a rock.
What are we doing?
I'd probably leave it up to them.
Because I feel like they'd have a set list.
Well, you didn't want to be like Keenan.
when Garth Brooks was here, just yelling at him,
telling him what to play.
Mike, he's kind of,
Oceanfront property.
That's short snout who this is.
Mike, fuck.
Greta, your oasis
during Stampede.
You may need to just get away, but you still want to have
some fun and some, uh, what about Oasis?
Oh, yeah, get them to cover Oasis.
They're coming back.
Wonderwall.
I mean I've been saying that for years, but it sounds like, yeah,
sure.
there.
I mean, it's
all tickets.
It's guaranteed.
When are they going to fight and break up again?
I think there's so much money.
And they're older now.
It's like I can.
They're like,
we're going to give you 11th billion.
You're like,
oh,
okay,
all right.
We get separate jets, everything.
Yeah,
that's right.
That's how that goes.
Greta.
Arcade bar street food.
Okay.
We can do our bets.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, big game tonight.
Stampede Bowl.
Bet 365.

Okay.
So, Deidrich Mills, what do we know?
Touchdowns, touchdowns, touchdowns.
First of the game.
Plus 650.
Big game hunting.
Oh, I'm almost scared if you get that.
It's jackal.
Oh, yeah.
We're feeling shitty later.
We're going to be in liquid land if that happens.
And look, I don't know.
Who's going to win?
We just had the president of president.
The sheriff said that that trophy's not going anywhere.
That's right.
Stamps are going to win.
Plus 170 on the money line.
The line is four and a half of this morning.
So it's inched a little bit towards the blue bombers, which I think they're underestimating
the power of the Stampede Bowl home crowd.
It's true.
Brett Michaels.
Exactly.
Nothing but a good time.
What a scene.
It's going to be tonight.
Yes, I'm excited.
This is a nice little add to the calendar.
There you have it, folks.
Bet 365.
You can take those bets or go out on your own.
So many different markets and you were on there today.
Look at Stanley like playoff probabilities.
Plus 220, Flames make playoffs.
Official partner of the NHL, download the app, get in the game.
And it's kind of a quiet day on the old he-hoo.
He's got balls.
Whoops, wrong one.
There it is.
I don't mind when you miss.
That's kind of fun.
Yeah, sure.
Yeah, it's fire random button.
God damn it.
Use centers of Calgary.
We got a couple today.
Jay Doll,
we can't rebuild when players deny our best trades.
Yeah, no, that's not sure.
You can.
You can try.
It makes it more difficult.
Yeah.
And again, you could trade Rasmus to, let's see, the math.
25 other teams.
That's fine.
You can do it right now.
You're living to ask.
Just do it, ice.
25 plays.
You can go.
J-Doll.
J-Dol music.
What would be the take if Conner, I had done what I said, and sent him anyway, and we were
here going.
It'd be, that's the first time that has ever happened in NHL history.
Boy, that's, I know, but what would you be saying?
It would be like, you know what?
That's balls.
Oh, it's huge.
Jones.
He's got balls, right?
Like,
is that?
Are we,
are we giving him kudos?
Are we like,
are we?
Well,
if you got the huge hall in return,
you'd be like,
that's,
that's,
wow,
look at the hall he got.
But you're like,
like,
like,
yeah,
some would say he's got balls.
It's both.
Yeah,
absolutely.
Others might say,
they don't know
what the fuck they're doing.
Do you understand that?
There'd be some confusion.
Yeah.
Being like,
so you just signed him,
but now you're,
trade. Yeah. What the age?
Well, we signed him to maximize his trade
value. That's good
managing. Yeah.
Instead, we're stuck with him.
You break his leg and we'll be screwed.
Oh, geez.
Jeremy, away.
Do you re-sign Anderson, even with him at
minus 38 plus minus last year? He's playing on a
broken leg for a couple months. It was not ideal.
It's not his best year, but you don't resign him.
No, you're trading him. I think the ship has sailed.
The resigned ship, Dean,
as it's on the boat
it's moving down really
yeah once Surrette floated the sign
and unflowing trade
they're now not signing
always start the engine before you untie it
it was unmoored
because then it just starts floating away
and you can't start it and then it's just gone
it's like oh shit
never catch it
that'd be the analogy of keeping someone
to the deadline and letting them go for nothing
oh don't do that
don't do it
anymore no that's it that's all that's all that's it that's all that's all no show tomorrow
you know it would be great is if there was a super chat from someone jack haver or something
yeah yeah that asked what kind of pizza what toppings do you want on your pizzas yeah yes if jack
can let me take a quick guess here double chat hey guys what kind of pizza do you
want for pizza day is pizza fans what do you like on your pizza Tuesday I'm pre-ordered

summer sked underway
noodles is done
Dregger's done
I saw the
what was that morning cup of
cup of hockey there yeah
they're off for the summer
really we're still doing shows
they're not going to break down that Nick Eeler signing
that everyone's waiting for
and we'll pop in if something happens
if Rasmus Anderson
signs an extension and then moments later
gets traded yes we'll be doing a show
we'll be on your YouTube
we'll be doing victory laps
on your YouTube's
genius
so enjoy the weekend
4th of July
Stampede
Stampede Bowl
and we'll talk to you on Tuesday
does that seem fair?
It's more than fair Dean
I'm pretty happy about it
it's no pressure
Jack how was the show?
A great show I'm going to miss noodles
always so easy to come to town
we got to kidnap him for a day
drag him to the road
There is a zero chance he's hanging out with any of us.
I got meetings.
Yeah, he's not hanging with us.
Who's hosting their meetings during Stampede?
That's some phony bologna.
They're going to have a skybox at Cowboys for sure.
He's part of the,
yes,
he's basically part of meetings.
GM of the team.
Peter Hanlon and Conroy.
He's pulling the leaders.
He's the,
uh,
the brains behind the operator.
Special assistant to the assistant.
Special up.
Conroy.
handling like who's the puppet master thick as thieves and we know it's that crafty big-eared
bastard out in ontario what's he feeding those things see you buddies
