It's a story that's bothering me.
I want to talk it over with you.
You remember in November, two police officers were in the subway in the Bronx, and they were attacked by three people.
Two of them were arrested, young men.
The officers had told them to put out their marijuana cigarettes because they were in a subway, and they refused.
And then they attacked the cops, and the cops had to go to the hospital.
Now, the hearing, of course, the attackers were immediately let out, no bell.
Okay, thank you, Governor O'Kill.
So they have to show up on Monday for their first hearing, whether they will show up or not, we'll tell you.
Okay, we don't know whether they will or they will not.
But to me, this is a huge story because you can't have your police officers being physically attacked
and not punish the attackers, right?
Okay.
So we wanted to get a comment from the police union.
As you know, all 40,000 NYPD people are in the union.
Compete, patrolman's benevolent association.
John Lynch is the president.
So when this first happened, we called Mr. Lynch's office and said,
you know, we'd like to get a reaction.
from you on camera, come on in, talk to the WABC listeners about what you think and how the
situation can be improved, how the officers can be better protected, what has to happen.
Logical for a journalist to do that, right? I mean, WABC and Bill O'Reilly, we are pro-police.
We want the best police force in the world, I think we have it, and we want them to be protected.
it. So Lynch didn't do it. Wouldn't come on. No explanation. Now I wanted to get them on Monday
after these guys supposed to show up. The attackers, not going to do it. So we asked the PBA
spokesperson, why? What's the problem? Does he hate me? What is it? No, crickets, nothing,
wouldn't define it. Now, I can't figure this out. I know a lot of police officers listen to this
program, not only in New York City, but in, you know, Connecticut and upstate New York and New Jersey
and Long Island. Can you guys figure this out, guys and gals? Why wouldn't your union rep,
the guy who's in charge of protecting you, go on the media to discuss this kind of a case?
Something wrong here. Something really wrong.
So now I'm in full investigative journalist mode.
I'm going to find out what's going on.
Now, we are going to report on Monday what happens to these miscreants, and they are.
No doubt they did it.
It's on videotape.
You can see it.
So we're going to trace what happens to them.
And, you know, I'm sorry to be pessimistic, but I don't think much is going to happen to them.
And then why the union, the police officer's union, isn't stepping up.
They should be on every show, trying to protect their people, getting public awareness,
getting public outrage.
That's how you do it.
So really something wrong.
Now, let's pivot into something lighter and better.
So this weekend is the weekend for all Christmas planning.
If you put it off any longer than this weekend, you're going to descend into chaos.
You've got to have your list.
You've got to have your buys going on.
I don't buy from the Internet because it never comes in the way I wanted to.
It looks great in the catalog, but come on.
You know, you've got to try on.
You've got to see it.
You've got to feel it.
So I got to go to the stores, and I figure out a while back who I'm going to give presents to.
And I kind of figure out what they like.
I don't do generics.
And then I fill in the blanks there.
There's nothing wrong with gift cards.
And that's what most Americans now give because he does give people independence.
But it's a little impersonal.
Now, if you know somebody and you want to reward them on Christmas and you know what they like,
you know, surprise them with something nice.
Remember when I was a kid in Levittown, I got it.
My parents didn't have any money, but they tried.
and they gave me a train set and some cowboys and Indians and that kind.
But they would also give me underwear.
I hated that.
It was dressed up like a present.
It was a nice wrapping paper on, two bill from Santa.
And then I would open it up and it would be socks.
You know, like, oh, remember that?
I go, look at them.
Come on.
But I have to say, my parents try to give me a good Christmas and my sister and they succeeded.
