Hi, everyone. This is Dr. Tammy Patser, and today I'm really happy that I have Gloria Grace Rand with us today.
She is a holistic business guide and bestselling author of the book, Live, Love, and Gage.
stop doubting yourself and start being yourself.
Gloria, known as the Light Messenger, has more than 15 years of experience in online marketing
and combines this energy healing to help female entrepreneurs attract clients with confidence
and clarity.
She's here to discuss the pervasive issue of Imposter Syndrome and her unique love, L-O-V-E method,
which helps people, women, overcome self-doubt and or self-self worth. Welcome, Gloria.
Well, thank you so much. I'm so glad to be here today chatting with you.
Well, thank you. I'm excited because it's been a while since we've talked. And one of the reasons why I put the call out was because I haven't talked to a lot of people for a while.
and I wanted to catch up.
So let's just go ahead and get started.
Tell me more about your background and what led you to become a holistic business guide.
I would love to do that because, yeah, it's really all about what you mentioned in the beginning about I'm really here on a mission to help women in particular overcome self-doubt to overcome imposter syndrome.
and we'll get into that.
I know a little bit later.
But yeah, a long time ago, I actually used to work in television.
I worked for the Nightly Business Report.
And then around 2008, 2009, I wasn't doing that work anymore.
And in fact, they didn't really need me to do that work anymore.
And so I actually got into doing something a little bit related.
because I was writing for the show, so I became a copywriter.
And so I started helping businesses with, in particular, their online content
and helping them get found on Google.
And I did that for, well, for quite a while, I guess I started in 2009,
and I was doing halfway decently, I would say,
not as successful perhaps as I would like to have been.
And that's something that I discovered why later as I started writing this book.
So in 2015, my sister was diagnosed with cancer.
And then I started going through helping her, you know, dealing with all of that.
And then, unfortunately, lost her the following year.
However, I had this wonderful, tremendous gift in retrospect, looking at it now that came about a couple months.
before she passed.
And it was, I had been meditating, I've been meditating for years.
And during this one meditation of this thought came into my head that said,
you should write a book about love.
And my first reaction was, that's crazy.
I do marketing.
What are you talking about?
What the heck do I know about love?
But then as I said, well, after I got done, I got on my computer and said,
okay, well, if I was to write a book about love, what would it be?
and love, as you indicated, is an acronym.
And so after I was kind of got through some of the grief after my sister passed,
and I started writing this book and realizing what it all involved,
which was about, well, I'll go into more detail,
but basically I realized that I needed to learn how to love myself.
that was ultimately what it was for.
I really needed to learn how to love myself,
how to have the confidence in myself to be myself
because my sister had been my cheerleader.
She was my support person in my business
when I felt like I wasn't doing a good job
and she would be there and now she wasn't there anymore.
And so that's why I feel that this was her and God's gift to me,
parting gift for me to be able to learn how to really start standing up on my own two feet
and know that I am worthy to be successful and I am worthy to be the light in the world
and to help others recognize their own value. And that's a lot about what the love method
is about. That's so interesting because the topic that we're going to
to focus on today as imposter syndrome. And when you talk about that so many people, they're so
busy taking care of everybody else or doing something that they forget that it all starts
with loving yourself. And imposter syndrome, I think is a really good example of what happens
when we're busy doing everything except focusing on us.
And since we are all lights in the world.
So tell me more about, we're going to talk more about your book too,
but I want to get into the imposter syndrome.
Why do you think it's such a common issue for entrepreneurs?
earth. I think, well, and I think it's especially in this day and age with social media, because we,
we see so many people who are putting their best foot forward, of course, on social media and
saying, oh, you know, look how I've landed this client and I'm doing this and all of that. And so
we start, it's, I think it's just natural to start comparing ourselves to other people. And
if you don't really have a strong, strong sense of your own self-worth, then it can be this little
slippery slope that you go down where you start feeling like you don't measure up. And I know I
would do that when I was doing my copywriting business. When I first started it, I was doing it
really part time because I was still, I was a stay-at-home mom and so I was having to deal with,
you know, picking the kids up from school and taking them to different activities. And then I would
see other people who just seemed to be going gangbusters and I would, you know, start feeling like,
you know, why isn't that happening for me? And then, you know, I would have to either either myself
remind myself or my sister would be good at reminding me that, well, okay, you're not devoting,
you know, 60 hours a week or whatever to this, you know, that maybe they are.
And if it takes you a little bit longer, that's okay.
And so that's what I think some of this happens is we just fall into this trap of trying
to measure up to other people, not understanding that what their circumstances are,
that they may have, you know, maybe they've got a big team of people behind them.
They can help them show up and be able to, you know,
you know, attract clients or be able to really do all these different pieces of marketing that you need to do,
maybe you're just starting out. So you can't compare apples to oranges and be able to do that
to start to feel good about yourself if you're going to do that. You need to start with owning your own
value and realize that this is my journey and I need to just focus on being the best,
that I can be and to be the best me for my clients if you were in business and
not worry about other people.
I think you're right because social media, I mean, back in the day, you know, yes, we saw
other people being successful, but it wasn't so blatant in your face every single day.
And the thing that I think social media does is it sometimes makes it appear that someone is super, super successful because they'll go and do photo shoots.
You've seen the ones where the guys will go and they'll go to a car dealership and have their photo taken in front of a Mercedes or a Lamborghini or maybe they go rent a mansion for the day.
they stay in a fancy hotel and they do that. So we really don't know. And so we try to compare
ourselves. And like you said, each one of us brings this unique perspective and we just need to
stop trying to compare ourselves. With your love method, it's L-O-V-E. So explain what the four-step
process is that you're helping people because I think again that imposter syndrome is a symptom
of not having whatever it is that solid core base of yourself. Yeah, absolutely. So I love this.
I'm so really just so blessed to have received this information, which I will also let folks know,
even after I wrote the book and I would read other people's books, you know, people in the
personal development world, and I would go like, oh, that's similar, isn't it? It's just,
it's just a different way of phrasing it. So what I'm doing is not necessarily new. This love
method isn't necessarily new, but it's flavored through me. So it's through my interpretation. So
the L stands for let go and let God. Again, not a new concept, right? But for me, and in this context,
it really is about letting go of limiting beliefs, letting go of this feeling that you have to be
perfect, letting go of expectations, and just trusting in your higher power, trusting if you don't
believe in that, you know, even then just trusting in yourself, that you have the wisdom,
within you to be able to accomplish what you need to accomplish.
So just being able to trust in that.
The O is about opening your heart to receive.
And this is about, ultimately it's about receiving love.
But love in the context of business could be opening your heart to receive money, frankly.
And one of the stories I tell in the book is about my
sister, she was a massage therapist. And one year she called me and to ask for my advice, and this is my
older sister, mind you, but she wanted my advice because she said one of her clients wanted to give
her a thousand dollar bonus for Christmas. And I was like, wow, that's awesome. What do you mean?
What advice do you need? She's like, well, I don't know if I should accept it. I'm like, um, yeah,
But I still went on a little bit more and asked her, well, you know, is she happy with your work?
Oh, yeah, she's gotten a lot of relief.
You know, she was in a lot of pain when she came to me.
She refers me to other people.
And I just said, you know, Michaela, that you need to accept this money from her because this is her way of showing love to you and how much that she values the services you've been giving her.
And if you were to reject that, then it's really like you're rejecting her.
So that's why, you know, sometimes, and especially, it's even something as simple as, you know, as women sometimes if we receive a compliment, we're so quick to brush it off.
But instead, you know, just say thank you.
So just being able to receive a thank you or, you know, a compliment.
Sometimes it's so important for us.
the V is to value your uniqueness and appreciate this is really about appreciating what makes you
different from your competitors.
You know, we all pretty much have somebody else who does probably the same thing that we're doing
and the same product or service that you're selling.
But people are going to come to you for a particular reason.
And maybe that's the values that you uphold.
or maybe you do something in a slightly different way that makes it unique.
But to be able to appreciate that and then price your services accordingly because of that.
And because that's a lesson that I had to learn because I was not charging enough at the beginning for my services,
even though I had like one client that I'd worked with for years.
And it finally dawned on me one time that, oh, maybe I should ask for a raise.
You know?
It's like, I mean, if you work at a job, you get performance reviews and, you know, and then you get raises.
But if you're a solo entrepreneur, or at least for me anyway, business didn't come naturally to me.
And there weren't other business people in my family.
I never dawned on me for whatever reason, not to do that.
And then what I did, it was like, oh, sure, yeah, no problem.
And then finally, the E is embrace.
your divinity. And to me, this is about, again, acknowledging that you are, you are, well,
I always say that, you know, we're all created. We're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're,
we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, um, and because of
that I am worthy. I know that doesn't necessarily fly with the religion that I was raised in, which was
I was raised Catholic and I'm not really a practicing Catholic anymore.
But I do feel that we are, it's important for us to really acknowledge that we are not only unique people,
but that we are, the thing that also unites us is that we are all one.
We are all the same underneath.
We're all still human beings and we are worthy of love.
We are worthy of success.
We're worthy of whatever it is that we want to do,
but to be able to own that.
So that's pretty much what the love method is all about.
Well, it makes a lot of sense.
And it's interesting that you brought up the religion
because a lot of the things that we develop
are limiting beliefs and things are.
based in what we were taught about our relationship with the higher power or our higher being or God or, you know, whatever someone wants to call it.
I wanted to ask you about energy healing and the role it plays in your approach to helping entrepreneurs.
Yeah, so this is something that's been an interesting development over the years.
So originally, and this goes back to even the early 2000s, I started learning about Reiki,
which is a type of energy healing that has come about that's much more mainstream now.
It's a type of energy healing that they even do in hospitals.
And so I'm a certified Reiki, one and two practitioner, and I've used it mostly on myself,
not necessarily with other folks.
But over the last several years, I was introduced, I guess,
could be a good word to say.
I was introduced to another type of energy healing.
It's really, it's a sound healing modality,
and it's called light language.
And it's a multidimensional language that is something that your logical brain
when it hears it is not going to necessarily be able to translate it. It kind of sounds like a foreign
language, but it's something that speaks to your heart. And I first heard it at a business conference.
And a woman got up and talked about her journey and how she remembered speaking this language when she
was a child and then she was going through a rough time in her life and decided to see if she could do it
again. And when she then channeled this language, kind of spoke it in the room, I'm sitting at
the table with some other women and all of a sudden I started crying. And I'm like, okay, what is
going on here? It's like, this is clearly my soul is like reacting to this in a unique way. So that sort of
started me on my journey. And it was several months later actually working with an old coach of mine
who I saw on Facebook doing light language, that he was, he helped me to be able to start to do it for
myself. And when I use this with, with clients and sharing it with them, first off, it's a really
great modality to help you just, just with stress reduction, because it's very, it helps,
it just really gets in and helps you feel very relaxed. And, and anytime,
we can feel relaxed. I think in this day and age, it's a good thing. And so because stress,
high stress levels can cause a lot of problems with our health. And so that's one of the things
that helps. But it also helps to release a lot of helps you with kind of releasing some of these
old programming thoughts and beliefs that we might have been holding on to that we learned as a kid.
And sometimes even that we picked up from our parents and their parents that have just gotten ingrained in us.
I mean, I'm still even realizing that there's some things that I know were really my mom's issues that I've incorporated and that I have to, you know, continue to work on releasing and saying, you know, I love you, mom, but this was your thing, not mine.
And I'm going to let it go now.
I don't have to hang out today.
That's interesting because I think that sometimes we do have other people's stuff that we're dealing with.
And it could be, you know, DNA, you know, given to us to our DNA or our childhood.
You know, sometimes it's hard to know where you get some of these feelings and things like that.
So when you work with people, what does that look like?
I mean, how do you work with people now?
So I do, sometimes I just work with clients just doing white language sessions with them.
But I also, in coaching people, I will, you know, we'll talk and see, you know, where it is that they need support.
and I can help them to, you know, see where the love method applies and coach them through
some of that.
And then also, I love to actually incorporate the light language with that because, you know,
the things that, you know, we can talk out and they can, you know, figure out maybe what,
what things are holding them back, but then to be able to then reinforce it with the light language
is sort of kind of my unique way of being able to sort of amplify, I think, the coaching to be able to take it to that next level and to help them to release it so that they can get results a little bit.
I would like to think more quickly than they would have with just having a coach to help them out.
So put the two of them together.
Well, it makes a lot of sense.
And I was, as you were talking, I was looking back through my notes.
And now I understand a lot more after talking to you about the holistic business guide and the light messenger.
Because I wasn't 100% sure what that meant.
But now I understand how you're combining the different parts of you.
and coming up with something that is uniquely yours.
And I think that's important for entrepreneurs or anyone in business to realize that, yes,
there are other people who are maybe doing light language and other holistic business people.
But when you take whoever you are and add it all together,
now you have something totally unique.
So how can people reach out and find you to connect?
I would say the best place is actually LinkedIn.
So if they go and search for Gloria Grace Rand on LinkedIn, I would love to connect with them there.
Of course, you can also go to my website, which is gloriarand.com.
And that's G-L-O-R-I-A-R-A-R-A-N-D.com.
But I really, I'm spending a lot of time on LinkedIn and really enjoying that platform.
So that's the best place to reach out to me.
And I'd love to be able to, yeah, help focus out.
And then you can see what I'm up to in the world.
That's really interesting about LinkedIn because, you know, often different platforms offer the different opportunities to meet.
