I don't know how his bed flipped. He was in his little bouncer on the bed, and I noticed it flipped, and I checked on him, and it was cold. At first glance, it looked like a tragic accident, but the death of a child takes a darker turn in the interrogation room. Honestly, I thought he was asleep. He was laying in the thing on the bed. and his little bouncer, I swear to God, I don't remember light detector now.
Starting point is 00:00:36 I look at the death of this baby in New Mexico and how one person may have witnessed the crime. Welcome to crime fix. I'm Ann Jeanette Levy. A father's first concern should always, and I mean always, be looking out for his child. So it's hard. for most of us to understand when a parent harms their own child in new mexico prosecutors say 35 year old jared white caused the death of his five-month-old baby boy and lied about it it was just after 2 p.m on july 20th when the clovis police department got a call that the baby was not breathing the baby was also bleeding from the face 24 p i need you a speed of response for the ambulance i have a baby unconscious friend i not breathing about our CPR i was in office your mom i get office her mom he's my baby
Starting point is 00:01:46 he's my baby he's just fine and out i went to let my dog know and i noticed i don't know how does that He was in his little bouncer on the bed, and I noticed it flipped. And I said something, but he was cold. Nobody was in that room either. Like, I was in here with Jerry the entire time. He's supposed to a touch and not even getting a free beat on it. Okay, keep going. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Get on it. Please. Skim, please. I get him. Get him out of your baby. Get the baby. Or get him out of here. Police act very quickly, and they try to save this infant until EMS could take over.
Starting point is 00:02:21 And eventually take the baby to the hospital in the hope. of saving his life. When police arrived, the baby boy was found lying on the couch. His face and body were blue, and blood could be seen running down his neck. This is not normal. PD to any of the units on Mayville going to hospital, ambulance is asking for export to move the lights on the way to the hospital. Police know they have a crime scene, and they secure it by telling everyone to get out of the house.
Starting point is 00:02:48 That baby is three months. Corrections to be a three-month-old girl, baby? Three-month-old baby. three years. Okay. He was just okay. So can you ask me what happened? I have no idea. I was on the phone with my girlfriend and he was good. He had his bottle and everything. She was just back there a little bit ago. I went to go let my dog out because he had to go to the bathroom and nobody was in that room. There's nobody in the house besides me
Starting point is 00:03:14 and him and I was on the couch with him. He was fine an hour ago. We gave him a bottle. I went to let my dog out and I noticed because the bouncer that he was sleeping in. I don't know how it's sold. Can you guys come in me over here real quick? I don't know. I don't know. I just don't want anyone inside the home right now, okay? I don't know. I don't know. How would it hold him? I said, you need to get in here because I think he's
Starting point is 00:03:38 dead. And none of it. We was there an hour ago to check on him and he was fine. He was two living and everything. Okay, and he was on that couch the entire time? No, I was on the couch. On the rocker? He was on the bed and his little bouncer. That thing's never rolled over, so we don't know how to get rolled over. Okay. Do you have an idea on you, man, by any chance? Yes, it's in the house.
Starting point is 00:03:58 It's in my car, actually. Do you have an idea on you? Mine's in the house. I'm trying to get a hold of my dad. I know it might be in the house. It might be in the car. Do me care, man. Stay out here with me.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Hey, I don't give you my license number. Okay, I'll do that. Just stay out here to me. I don't want anyone to go in the home right now just because everything happened, okay? I don't want you to go in there or something happened. Dad, hang out over here by the car from me, and then I'll get your license number, okay? There's another baby.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Okay. There's another one in a room. Local checks. Okay. Vasquez. Where's that? There's that. There.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Hey. Hey. How's the other baby at? Yes. Vasquez. Hey. How old is the other baby? Where's it at?
Starting point is 00:04:52 Is there another bedroom? Is there another bedroom? Hi, baby. How are you? Yes, ma'am. Hi. Hi. Hi. You got her?
Starting point is 00:05:24 Yep, I got her. She's right back here. She's okay. Does mom want her? That's not mom. Oh, it's not mom? She's got a fool diaper. While in the home, officers notice the unsanitary, disgusting conditions and express concern about possible health risks with animal feces throughout the entire home.
Starting point is 00:05:48 One officer even remember. the residents from a prior call. I recognize the address. I was like, I'm like over here, like enormous. I know exactly who he is. He has blue, like you know, when you're really squeeze hard and your color doesn't have there? Yeah, it's all over.
Starting point is 00:06:03 And his neck is, there's blood on his neck. Yeah. And then this one was asleep in the back room and she's got a diaper so full whenever I went to go pick her up. She's soaked. Well, do you see this house? I've been here before. For domestics.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Just a baby. Another day. She's seven. She's seven. As a breaking news reporter, I live a really active lifestyle. Officers on the scene noted in their report that the father seemed distressed and a little out of touch with reality. I'm in here with you. I'm trying to see if I can hope you find them. See you're fine lawyers. I've been trying to get everything back in order since they're mom was. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:17 This is ridiculous. Of course, right now, my brain's not thinking on HACOR. That's okay. No worries. Now, at one point, Jared White, a 35-year-old man, asks for his mommy. And right now, like I said, he is okay. They're working on him at the hospital. But I can't.
Starting point is 00:08:45 That's what I'm saying. And when the ambulance, when they got that pulse and they got that back from him, that's why they left to the hospital. They don't do that if they don't catch a pulse or anything, man. So they got something. That's always a good sign, okay? But other than that, man, I don't, I can't give you any more information because I don't have anything, okay? The moment I hear something or I find out, I will let you know. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Okay. Like you said, right now, let's do me fair man. I don't think. I can't say I've been in your situation or anything like that. Just. I can't read this happen. I don't know. Do you want to make a chaplain out here to talk to you, man?
Starting point is 00:09:18 Do you want to make it? Say again? What is that? A chaplain? Yeah, it's like a pastor. Someone to talk to, family and mom. My mom would be cool. Your mom's on her way here, okay?
Starting point is 00:09:31 Okay. My dad's ass, sir. I can't go anywhere. You guys get done here? Yes, just because somebody's going to want to talk to you. And we're not saying you did anything wrong. That's not what we're trying to get at. The thing is, whenever there's...
Starting point is 00:09:49 I just want him to be okay. Whenever there's anything that's due with a child like this, we always want to investigate everything and make sure everything's okay. We're not saying you did anything wrong. We just need to talk to you about everything. And then he ended up on the... He went to the couch? He was in the bedroom and in his bouncer.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Okay. And then you guys brought him out to the couch? He was asleep. I brought him out because I was trying to get... Breathe as I was on phone with dispatch. like lightly push, well kind of push on his chest, you know, not like really hard because of his size. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:21 But give him a few breaths, try to do CPR, you know, I moved him somewhere flat. It was like, okay. Okay. Until you guys got here. Have you already talked to her? Yeah. Okay. Give me a quick second.
Starting point is 00:10:38 All right, Jerry? I'll be right. You, sir. Huh? What I can tell you? If you told me to stay here. and you already got her side though yeah okay how long did they say they waited until they called us uh they called us the moment they found them but uh they hadn't checked on them
Starting point is 00:11:03 in like an hour he was in the rocker chilling doing his own thing and then they came out and they found them and they called us right away they said the rocker was tipped over no no basically He was in the rocker and they found him like that and took him up. Oh, I thought she said something about the rocker was tipped over a few minutes ago. I can ask her again. You can ask you for one. Actually, he told me, I was waiting for that before we start asking me more questions. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Then White's mom arrives and she's in full mama bear mode. And we'll take you at her mom. Do you give him to me? No, so right. I called from the hospital. I got food. I got food for the hospital to 911. He tried calling.
Starting point is 00:11:44 through and I tried on my cell phone to call 911 first and nobody was answering so I ran out to the nursing station and they started calling and that's when you by me got through okay what's do you have an idea on you mom yes no I don't I just put it in my bag it's in the back back packet well just take your idea real quick and like I said just hang out real quick let us uh finish what we're doing I appreciate it how they were answering none nobody answered by no one who was trying to call and he called me so he told me so this are you Were you at the hospital?
Starting point is 00:12:15 I was already at the hospital, my grandma's going to go to the hospital. Oh, I'm so sorry. So I was in her room, and I tried to call it, and I let it bring seven or eight times. And nobody had it. You know, we got, like, one with a bouncer. Yeah, we only had him on the bed. The chairs that, you know, they claim to... We only had him on the bed.
Starting point is 00:12:36 But it's by weight, no, you know, they're sitting in it like, just like Korsi, but it does this number. See, look that. But we had him in the bouncer because he was cleaning out his crib and everything. So that's the only reason why he was in the bouncer. He was fine. I went to go check on him literally not too long ago and let my dog outside because he had to go to the bathroom. And I found it tipped over in him on his face. And he was blue.
Starting point is 00:13:01 And I screamed and I ran over to him and I said, you need to come get your son because I think he's dead. How old is he? He's four months old. Four months. All right. There was no sounds, no nothing. Anything falling? Yeah, because once he fell asleep, I put him in his rocker, and then I just closed the door and I let him asleep.
Starting point is 00:13:22 These two that are in the home, the two kids? Yeah. Okay, and then you both live here? I live here. I live over on Ash, but I stay with him like 99% of the time. I help him out with the kids and whatnot, so I was the one that laid him down and everything, and he was fine, because he even checked on him, too, after I laid him down and he was good. and we were on the couch He went up and went right back to sleep
Starting point is 00:13:47 And we went and we were sitting on the couch watching TV And nobody else was in the house besides us So we don't know what had happened We were watching TV and that's when I went to know As soon as that was discovered, I called you guys He was like, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope How many times did you try calling? I called once and got through
Starting point is 00:14:05 You called you called it Yeah, he used her phone I called once and got through Awesome You guys having issues with phone? online or something? No, I guess your mom had said that she had, that y'all tried calling and it wouldn't go through or something, so. I called the one time and got through to you guys. She might have tried calling a few times and didn't get through. I don't know. Before heading to the police
Starting point is 00:14:27 department, Jared White asks for another update on his young son. They said they got a pulse. I can't give you that answer. I have no idea. They said one of the officers that said they wouldn't have left like that if they didn't. Yeah. So usually whenever they try. That's what happens, but as of right now, we haven't spoken anybody yet. Sorry, baby. What's a good phone number? I don't have a working phone number. Does she have a phone number?
Starting point is 00:14:56 Yeah. So he'll go and she'll go separate interview rooms or what? All right, do you have anything else in your pockets? I don't have pockets now. We're going to come over here to this unit right here and I'm going to take you and then he's going to end up taking you. He's going to end up taking you down to the PD, okay? Police say the baby's injuries are not at all consistent with the statements made by Jared White. The investigator for the district attorney's office presses White for the truth in the interrogation room.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Any time something like this happens, we get called out, and we're kind of in charge the entire investigation, okay? Yes, sir. So an hour before you guys found, he's your son, you found him the way he was, he was, he was. was fed and changed by Audrey or Jasper? Yes. She just told me that was a lie. Listen to me. I swear.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Jared. Listen to me. Trying to place times and everything in my head. Okay. She told me at 6 o'clock in the morning or 7, you went in there to check on Joseph. Was he dead? No, he wasn't. Honestly, I thought he was asleep.
Starting point is 00:16:36 He was laying in the thing on the bed in his little bouncer. I swear to God, if I was. would have seen something wrong with my child, I would have called you guys. Just like I did when I seen something happen. Okay. So, Jasper says she never fed the child. She never. I swear she.
Starting point is 00:16:53 She didn't. She lied. And I told her she was, I just want the truth. Okay? She just told me that she lied about it. So obviously you and her talked about it. And if you want to save her, okay, you can start telling me the truth. Sir, I'm telling you.
Starting point is 00:17:08 You're not telling me the truth. Yes, I am. Your child has been dead. A lot longer. My detector test, please. Thursday, I've asked you. Listen to me. The child has been deceased a lot longer than before the cops were called.
Starting point is 00:17:21 You guys have my phone. So is Jasper lying that... I don't know. I don't know. Did you see Jasper feed the child? No, I cannot say that I physically saw anything happen. I cannot say that I physically saw anything happen. You walked in there this morning to check on...
Starting point is 00:17:38 His thing was on his on the bed. bed. It was on the bed. If it wouldn't have been on the bed, I would have been tripping. But there is a strong case that Jared could have been using drugs. When police searched his residence, there were multiple pipes lying around, and he was posing with marijuana on Facebook. The investigators used Jared's lies against him. I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I'm going to be brutally honest with you, okay? your child was not alive when you checked on this morning, and you knew that. No, I didn't.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I thought he was asleep. I did not know that. So how did you feed him if he was asleep? Because I was going to make the bottle. I was going to do everything. I do every day. And I had it all lined up. I had the formula already out.
Starting point is 00:18:29 I'd already talked to mom because I need to get more formula because I'm low on formula. So you didn't feed the day. I swear I went, I was going to make his bottle, I swear I gave him his bottle. You didn't give him his bottle. You know why he didn't give him his bottle, Jerry? Because I didn't know he was dead. I wish he'd put insinuating that I did. I'm not, I'm not, you are. Either you fed the baby. And I'm sorry if I sound girl, but you're insinuating that I knew that my son was dead. If I would have known that, I would have called to you guys.
Starting point is 00:19:01 We can alleviate that. Either you made a bottle and the baby was fed. he took the bottle just like normal or you made the bottle and he was still asleep and you didn't feed him the bottle I don't remember I don't remember you know I don't Jared I don't remember your child was dead this morning I did no no my child was not or I would have told you guys this morning but you don't even remember right now you told us that you did he say earlier he fed the baby this morning I swear I don't know So when we go over there, are we going to find a freshly made bottle? Are we going to find a bottle that was made this morning that you tried to give the baby that he didn't take? Is there going to be there?
Starting point is 00:19:47 She'll be a yellow winning the blue bottle. Put milk in there that was made the blue bottle. Should be, yes. Jared, either you fed the baby this morning. I don't remember. Light detector now. Okay, I'm going to tell you this. Your baby was dead a lot longer.
Starting point is 00:20:01 I'm tired of you trying to get me to make something I don't. No. I just want you to tell me the truth. I want you to tell me truth. I don't know, sir. I didn't know there was anything wrong with my son. I think you do nothing. No, I don't. And I think you and Jasper. Polygraph now. I think you're lawyer now. Lawyer up. All right. Have a seat. I'm not mad. I'm not talking. You know, Lord. I gave me chance to be honest. I was. Before a lawyer. Now, investigators learn that the infant was in full rigor mortis at the time that he was taken to the hospital, which is a process that can take between six and eight hours, meaning the child's death would have occurred much earlier than the timeline given by Jared White. So you took him out, laid him flat on the bed, put a blanket over him, and then Jasper found him? I didn't put a blanket over him. there was not a blanket over him
Starting point is 00:21:04 who are you lying to no you're lying obviously you are because that's what jasper told us there was not a blanket over him we're getting this information from jasper there was not a blanket over him because I carried him out of that room and met paramedics outside
Starting point is 00:21:19 of my house call my mother your mother's here and don't get a ton with me please don't lie to me I'm not lying to you're the woman that's obviously lying to us How do you explain the injuries under his neck? The injuries under his neck?
Starting point is 00:21:37 That wasn't injuries. I'd love to know because that was dried blood. That's not dried blood. What is it then? Because that's what I thought it was. It's strangled. It's something around his neck. I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:21:48 I thought it was dry blood. I didn't know what happened. I'm sorry to my child and you're calling me a liar. You're not taking care of your kids and that's very obvious. You put him in a freaking room. There's no way a five-month-old sleeps from six at night all the way until six in the morning and next day. Did you see the condition of his diaper? No, I did it because I told you guys.
Starting point is 00:22:13 He's been setting a shit for hours. I didn't know. I'm sorry. I didn't know. I had asked her when I had left, keep an eye on the kids. I got back. Kids were asleep. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:30 I'm not going to just wake you up. No, I don't. I don't. I don't have a reason to suspect that. Well, if it wasn't hurt, then it was you. He didn't die of natural causes. Nobody, I promise you, I'll do a goddamn lie detector. I did not do anything to my children.
Starting point is 00:22:48 I would never, I would kill myself or let myself be killed before my kids got hurt. And right now, I wish that was me. What did you do that? do anything to him. I will take a polygraph right now. You don't have to act like that. Sit down. Quit calling me a liar. Sit down. Quit calling me a liar. Right. You're not too. Get a polygraph in here now. Jared White becomes defensive and requests a lie detector test. Meanwhile, police are chatting with Jared's girlfriend, Audrey, in the other room. What we have seen on his little body, okay?
Starting point is 00:23:28 There's no way that he, you fed him, put him on the bouncer and that he's fine, and then an hour later, he's got that level of, you know, there's no way that he's, he's alive at that point. He had been dead for a while, okay? Now, with that in mind, I want you to really think about this, okay, because when we talk to Jared, he's saying that he left for a while. and left you with the kids. No, I honestly forgot he hit Dilley for that,
Starting point is 00:24:00 for the, when he went to go take his motorcycle to his friends. I had completely, I'm sorry, I have scattered rain right now because I'm still trying to wrap my mind around all of this. The kids were fine. The entire time I was there, the kids were fine because I had checked on Jojo and I had put him to him to bed. Okay, so I just want to know because that is narrowing who had access to those kids, okay, during that time for him. So he's saying that he left for a while. How long was he
Starting point is 00:24:36 gone? About an hour and just had been fine because at that time that's when he was just making baby noises and everything and the TV was on for him and I went in, I changed him, gave him a bottle and I rocked him to sleep and then I put him in his bouncer and I let him close the door behind me and let him sleep. Investigators are worried that Audrey might be covering for Jared. I don't I'm telling you the truth. I'm telling you everything. I know. I promise you. I 100% promise. I have being honest with you. I would choke him. No. I would never hurt a child. I would never hurt a kid. My boyfriend can also voucher me.
Starting point is 00:25:22 He knows I would never hurt a kid. Jasper, he didn't die of natural causes. He didn't die as cis. He didn't die as a positional asphyxia. It looks like somebody strangled him. I nobody did anything to him. I didn't strangle him either. When I found him like that, I did not check his body.
Starting point is 00:25:43 I went immediately to Jared and told him, to go check his son because I think he's dead. I promised you I did nothing to his child. Now, the guilt must have eaten away at Audrey because according to court records, she told police in another interview that she saw Jared White strangle his baby boy. The document states that Audrey heard the baby crying around 1 a.m. And when she walked into the bedroom, she observed Jared to have wrapped the baby boy into a blank.
Starting point is 00:26:17 and watched as Jared lifted him into the air by his neck while still being wrapped in the blanket. Jarrett White is charged with child abuse resulting in death and abandonment or abuse of a child. He has pleaded not guilty. The second child in the residence was taken into protective custody because of the conditions in the home. The investigation into that is ongoing. Now at the time of this recording, Jared is awaiting his next court date. He's in custody being held without bond at the Curry County Detention Center. According to the court docket, his trial is scheduled to begin in February of 2026 again. He has pleaded not guilty. And that's it for this edition of Crime Fix. I'm Janette Levy. Thanks so much for being with me. I'll see you back
Starting point is 00:27:04 here next time.
