Year. Dicek. Are back in Hermosa Beach. One final time to close out the summer and the Dicek DJ's Summer Beach series ends in the year of 1994. DJ Castle, DJJJJJJ. The only DJs. LA does spit. Mixed it.

Throw it back. And I said. And yes, for the third week straight, we are coming to you live from Ramosa Beach, staring at the ocean, which now has a bunch of sailboats that have all just collected. The sun is fading. There's no more people doing shit in front of us. My mic is way far away. Sorry. Nobody's doing shit in front of us.

There's no loud noises, no dogs. We are at the perfect situation for a podcast on the beach. We're just about hitting that sundown era, which I think is a great time to revisit a year that I remember quite fondly. 1994 going way back to our early childhood and bringing you the top five songs of the summer of 1994 and what was that one we opened up with us? Crystal Waters, 100% pure love. I love this song.

One of my favorites, why I saw her in a TV show promoting that song back in 1995. I think I was what 10. And I remember her doing the dance for it. And I was like, oh, she's getting it. I don't know why. I fell in love when I saw her do it. You saw her doing the back to the middle and around again.

Back to the middle of the round again. Did you remember what that dance is? Oh, yeah. What is it? I can't really, I mean, you're not going to see it on here, but. You could get it like Mavicah? A little box step. The John Lovitz in a wedding singer.

Yeah, the John Lovitz. You get it, man. That's all she did, but she did it smooth. That's what the back to the middle around again is simply a box step, but she made it look fantastic. And just a beat. Just a beat on that gets you dancing. It's just, come on.

I remember this song. I had a CD that was the ultimate. dance mix of 1997 and for some reason this was in there so maybe it just took a few years to really like heat up and cook but this was part of it i bought that cd because it was the only way i knew how to find mo money more problems my favorite song at the time and i saw it on this random dance mix and uh it had a bunch of 90s club banging classics including this one and uh that was how i familiarized myself i want to be at a club in the 90s man it'll be cool it's 90s sounded fun 80s sounded fun 70s All those times had fun, even early 2000s.

It was a good time in the club. It was just a different time for dancing. When you got to 2010s, I don't know, man. Shit just got, where people just got dancing. Or they just started, like, chilling. Or they just jump. Or they just jump up. Like, it became just jump, jump, jump.

It's no. Fis bump and shit. Fuck, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 2010's on dancing. No, you go to a 90s club. We talked about this in the wedding singer episode. People were sweating.

You will be sweating. They were getting it, man. They were really, like, putting it. They weren't worried about people pulling out their, like, phone cameras to, like, record them and shit, you know, yeah. Absolutely not. No, they got down.

At 12 o'clock, they got down. Yeah. Okay? So, they love that song. Number two. No, that was number five. So, number five, number four. Bringing it home with the classic

Get on the boat. Gentlemen. Get on the ride. Let's go, 94. Just from the beginning of that, right? Doesn't it immediately give you the feels? All right, one more time. It makes you just want to approach your secret lover and just be like, yo, I'm about to like profess my true feelings to you.

Let's have sex. Let's get to the voices. That song actually, like, when you actually hear it, like, fade out with the ocean crashing. Good night, boy. There you go. This is always, it took until 2026 for somebody to play it right and it took your die-sick DJs to come to the beach and play

it as it's meant to be heard. But yeah, hey, 1994 was the romance capital of the world, Jules. They knew what they were doing when it came to R&B. And that is also a great way to close out your summer, you know? All right, let's say a lot of these songs we've been playing the last few weeks are a great like, oh, summer fun. Something about those mid-90s understood the definition of R&B. And that's why we had to go back to back with these songs. We just did I'll make love to you. Well, we had another artist, Tony Braxton. Yes. Another beast in the R&B community. The Army community and when we were kids and your mom would play a CD while she was like cooking or like. Especially like my mom who was like divorced and shit.

Like this is the stuff that she put on to really make herself feel good about herself. You know what I mean? Like this is classic 90s moms chilling at home. Just putting something on a vibe to music right here. Tony Braxton. This is what the mid-90s We're all about. We're going straight into our main version of this.

Go. Come on, Tony. You know what that song reminds me of? What? VH1. The summer of 94, I remember specifically, because I spent, like, the whole summer in Ohio, and I would stay at, like, my grandma's house

and my grandpa's house. I'd, like, you know, I have cousins visiting and stuff. And I never knew what VH1 was. I had become aware of MTV, probably, like, the year before, because I didn't have cable at that time at home. We had, like, 11 channels. And so whenever I'd go visit my relatives in Ohio,

I was very psyched to get to experience cable, watch, like, Nickelodeon, and then like MTV when I got a chance, and I really explored, I discovered VH1 at that time, and I remember this song always being played on, like, VH1. Every hour they'd be like, Tony Braxton and her new hit single, You Mean the World to Me. The music video was like black and white or something like that,

or it had, like, you know, those kind of, like, the low tone, To me is a fantastic jam. And she had the sideburns gone. She had that short hair with like the sideburns kind of curl looked, didn't she? I don't remember. Bring the video bag. Let's check it out. Yeah, there you go.

You're looking at it right now because I saw that music video all the time when I was a kid. And my memory is sharp like that. There's one thing Castle knows. It's his music videos from back of the day. And that is one thing. He and I separate. That Justin does not know. I don't know ever.

I think I know Buster Rhymes and Janet Jackson. What are you going to be when they get that? That's the one. That's it. That's it. We've never covered that one, but it might be worth. Earth Exploring. Okay.

Oh, 69 Boys in the BL DJ. Went with 69 boys. They're like, hey, should we just be the 69 boys? We can put a Z on it. We can make it fun. We're just that. We're going there. Everybody was going to be like, what are these guys all about?

69? They sound crazy. They sound like freaks. Yeah. And then they pop out of the titsy roll. I got to say, if all the songs you play today, that that song is mid-90s right there. Yeah, right? That just exudes mid-90s.

It reminds me of like jock jam. Remember jack jam? Yeah, absolutely. They're right in there with those. I think came out this year probably. Space Jam, I think came out right here. It was like a couple years later, but I think this song made that soundtrack and stuff. But like, yeah, that's what 94 to 96 is right in the mid-90s wheelhouse that I love.

That reminds me of childhood fun. And I actually didn't really come up on that song until a few years later, but they started by saying, 1999, like it's a clear 94. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I guarantee. And because they say 94, you have to be like that. I had to put it in this. You got to put it in here.

It had to be there. Although we have a number two. It brings us to number one. But before we do. It's time for the OLSs. You got it right. Yeah. The all outside looking in where we play quick snippets of a couple of other songs that just barely made the cut.

But when you hear him, you think summer 1994. What's the first one we got? One of Castle's favorite. And actually, he didn't know this. But one of my favorites growing up in the 90s, too. Why? Because my mom used to jam with that. Did your mom do that as well?

Was she an A-Sah Bass Jammer? Was that more of your thing? Asa-Base was my thing. I was going to say, before you just outed me, I was about to have myself, Justin, can I tell you a secret? In 1994, A-S-A-Base was my favorite group. Yeah, I love them back in too. They were ahead of their time.

They had, I just loved that they had music like that. That sound right there, woo-woo. It reminded me of those, like, toys we used to have that you would, like, spin around and it would, like, make that sound, you know? That was all that she wants, right? That's what that one was. I mixed both of them. Actually, don't turn around.

was the first one and then i mixed it into you didn't have uh i saw the sign in there no you mix those two no i mixed those two all that she wants is i could have made sign i could have i could have i could have mixed the sign right after that really i know i thought you should have because i saw the sign was actually my favorite at that time and i'll tell you what if you had asked young ryan in 1994 what's your song in the summer that probably would have been my answer so yeah i was unapologetic about it i was like i don't care let me tell you some of them that beats you got beats they said beats they got these spaces had beats they got these spaces sounds with it.

Usually you don't realize when you listen back to it now. That was unheard of back then. Unheard of, nobody else had sounds like that in their music, and a young Ryan was just tickled by it. I was marveling at the sound. I was like, music can be like this? I had never heard of it.

My mind was blown. All three of those songs, I believe, were out 94, and that's why Ace of Bass, they just ran the world back then. A group from Sweden, who was, like, really kind of bringing that, like, sort of Euro pop, like, sort of, The only other one that we missed was the dance one to, it's a beautiful life. Oh, oh.

See, I think that came later. That's the dance one. That's like Hadaway. Yeah. I'm pretty sure that one came later. But like, yeah, in 94, those were the cuts. And I didn't have any way to play him except for wait for them to come on the radio. And I'd be like, on my way to soccer practice.

And then I'd be like, oh, it's I saw the sign. Yes. Yes. Wait, wait, shut up, everybody. It's all that she wants. I was just low key. I would just be like low key in the background. It's like, hey, shit in the middle of the base real quick.

You know? Let me groove to this fucking groove. Don't do it around. Look at this beach where at, guys. Hey, quick beach break. Look at Steve. Steve's doing his tech work. Desjag.

Handling business. This is the beach. Yeah, yeah. We got boats. We got seagulls. Yeah, yeah. We're taking a quick beach break. Beach break.

And we are just exploring the summer of 1994. Look at the beach in front of us. We're doing a podcast on the beach. Who have you seen do this? Who have you seen do this? I don't think I've seen a podcast do this. I've not seen it. We're always trying to cover new thing, new ground here.

I believe we're the number one DJ podcast where we dissect music and like anybody else. And now we're trying to take that to the beach. Now we're the number one podcast in the world that dissects music on the beach. Unheard of. Steve, what about this one? Haven't seen it done since. What about this? Next one, or maybe not the next one, but in the future, could we do one in the beach?

What do you mean? We ran a Duffy. We ran some type of bus. for ourselves. I'm with it. And we take our ass out there. We do a podcast. Bring all this equipment.

I don't feel like you'd be over that. That's okay. We'll be on the boat. We ran a boat for a whole day. Once we set it up, we're hanging out on the beach. I like the idea. Yeah.

Maybe you're doing a lake, though, because this is a little bouncy. Can I be honest with you? Maybe we're doing a lake? I don't know what a Duffy boat is. There's a boat that can fit both of us and put our podcast stuff. And then we're basically out there doing this. Then I'm in.

This DJ, Warren G. All right. So that one, so I said earlier, my, if you asked 1994 Ryan what his number one song of the summer movie, I might have gone Ace of bass. It would have been in tough contention with Warren G. This DJ. that song is actually the song that, like, first turned Ryan really on a hip hop. And I never looked back until maybe these past few years when hip hop sucks.

But I still got my old school hip hop. So it's not a... I'm not going to let shitty new hip hop ruin it. But, like, from that point on, I was like, dude, you know what? I think hip hop's my favorite. And I was just, I've been on that ever since. I was bone thugs in that, right around the same area. Same time, right?

Bone thugs is when I got. Which song? It was any of that album that was... The one I remember was running with AK-47, watch them. fall down down running with AK 47 what's up with Joe what's up with you it's very underground but it was like yo he's running with the AK 47 and they would be like like yo they were crazy with it they either talked about shooting people drugs or mostly smoking weed mostly smoking weed yeah I'm about but yeah and then you know

and then they had their it's dogish bugger's pop yeah yeah yeah I don't know if any of them fit the 94 well I feel like Crossroads had to be close to that but maybe it was little bit later. Let me get the crossroads. Just the beginning of this one, come on. A little bit. We're not against rap. We're not against rap.

I just hated that intro. It's the thuggish walkers' mall. That's my intro to hip-hop. I remember being like, oh shit. I don't know if I liked this, but the guy I drove with made us listen to it. And I was like, all right, this is it. I smoked some weed, even though I didn't smoke wheat for another 10 years after that. You learned what it was all about from bone thugs.

So I was a quick, a little side step outside of 94. That was probably I'd say about like 90. Oh, they had Biggie in it. It might have been there. They had Biggie in it and Biggie, like, died in 97. So, like, yeah, it had to be. It might have been 94. It could have been 94.

All right. I'll allow it. We'll check it out. In the meantime, the other song from Back in the Day. Back in the Day. How far back in the day? Back in the day. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore.

I think it makes all the sense in the world. By the way, another song that has been fully dissected by the dissect DJs. If I had to guess on the episode, I would say... We did this song? Yeah, we did.

I remember that show. actually recorded this like in your kitchen i remember it oh okay we've done a lot we have a deep catalog jag even he doesn't remember it sometimes i would say uh invite a guess episode scissors yeah there you go that one 70 all right man shit we are we have reached 94 has taught us rmb it has shown us dance music it has showed us a bass and it showed us uh and it showed us some hip-hop of original. But it did not show us yet a remake by one of the classics. Mr. Culeo brought it this year.

He had a couple jams. He had one, two, three, four, something new. I remember that being a jam? That one was later. That was after this one. You guys know what this one is? Culeo, hit us. Tell what type it is.

That's what I'm talking about. Coolio! Yep. Just hit the bricks running in 1994 with that one. I talked earlier about how I spent like the entire summer in Ohio. Really getting one of my first opportunities to listen like MTV, VH1 This is the other one I remember

Music video He's like, how are we gonna get there? We ain't got no ride And then some magic man shows up And turns his bike into like a cool Top-down convertible And this is the one where they had like 84 people Come out of the car

And then next thing you know There's like a whole like block party And they're like in their like little convertible And everybody's just like partying That's the way That's the way we did it in 94 I mean not really how I was living in 94 I was living vicariously through Coolio on his block party.

Just saying what's up? Like this is how a block party is supposed to go in the summer. It taught me the ropes how like you're supposed to summer, you know? Yeah. People like Culeo. People like boys to men. You want to romanticize your lover on the beach. You say, I make love to you.

Yes. If you want to be snarky and a little salty but have like a dope Euro vibe to it, you say don't turn around. But if you want to have a party. But if you want to party with all the people in the town, you have a fantastic voyage. And you do the Tutsi roll. You slide to the left.

Now for the last two times we've done this beach, and I hope you guys are enjoying the beach episode, it takes a lot of effort for us to do this because there's no electricity. There is no bathrooms. We literally just get out here. We're relying on breakers and stuff chilling in the sand. And hope high tide does not come in

and wash all our shit away. Hope the weather holds up and that there's not too many, like, random people and dogs that are going to overtake the sound because they've ever read to do it so far. Been pretty chill. Been pretty good, man. Been a pretty fantastic quiet.

1994. Our beach episodes hit it, man. All right, out of five slaps. I'm giving the summer of 1994. I'm going. Wow. I thought he was going to give a five because of ace of bass, but he did not. I know.

It did have Ace of Bass, Warren G. And Cooleo. All your favorite. It turned you hip-hop. It turned you did. It was a big year. I don't know, man. I'm confused as a how it wasn't a five.

It changed your way of thinking. Like, throughout the. Oh, yeah. I knew it. You know what? I knew it. It introduced me to hip-pop. It introduced me to like Euro-Trans with Asa Base.

And then it introduced me to VH1 and MTV, really. So, I mean, the summer of 1994 was very informative for a young ride. That's so I had to be. I had to be. I was like, I was like, you know, it changed you. Well, because I gave five slaps to 2008. But that was also one of my favorite summers ever. And it had a reason to me.

But this one, too. And 94 might have been one of my favorite summers ever as a child. There you go. So therefore, I gotta give it up for it. All right. You ready for mine? Yeah, where are you at? It's delayed.

Castle's like, are you serious? I was about to fight you, dude. It's a fiber. It's like, don't make me attack you at the beach. 94 is where is that. It had love. It had dance. It had everything.

It had everything. And I was still watching Gilligan's Island at that time. Yeah, which is crazy enough. You could be watching Gilligan's Island from every single summer that we just dissected. Which is why we dissected Gilligan's Island with all of them. The lesson we've learned from the, dissect DJs, Summer on the Beach series,

Gilligan's Island. Good guy. Still fucking holds up. And guess what? That ridiculous themes, I mean, you know, I was laughing when I was listening

to it this time. It's like, that singer, he just fucking goes for it, dude. He gives it sucks. No, what he like, he starts like,

first of all, it sounds like it's like either a trio of guys, right? And I just want to see the recording of them because they were really like, they were like,

when they get to the second verse and they like bring it up, and then, This ship was tossed. Like, they really, like, put their oomph into it. But mix it with some 94? It works. It turns out...
