auto play and it played a song from an album I didn't realize had come out after that other album and I was like oh shit and this is a band called a veil they're from Richmond Virginia they're like a legendary kind of hardcore punk band, but they have such hooks and such like, Americana in them where it's like, it's like what I wanted from the whole state, it's like, it's like, like if a punk, punk guys were doing like Springsteen or more John Mellencamp kind of stuff. I mean, were you about to say the hold steady? I did.

Yeah, the whole study is kind of like in that pocket. Yeah, so in that pocket. But they kind of like stay a little bit more traditional. And like, but these guys are still have that energy and that speed of like a punk band. Wow. Yeah. So, uh, here you go. This is black and red by a veil.

And I was like, God, this is so good. and it sounds like I've known this song forever.

This was a swipe through on Instagram. I've pretty much trained my algorithm to just keep throwing songs at me. Table read is more like a table red at this point. I haven't brought it up once. So this song is. called Ports and the band's called Tiny Emperor.

I love that as a band name. Already. The video's great too. Lab machine's better now. Untamed Impala. All the Mali's kicking in. Kicking in. But this is like this song is a drug trip.

No, it's like in. We're in the goby tent right now. It's a day club, but I'm cool. Tame Impala vibes. Am I right? It's like Taman Paula had a baby with Jay Dilla. Yes. It's funny. Taman Pala's a band that I never thought twice about until recently.

Like a couple songs came on the radio like here and there. And I was just like, this is great. I was like, oh, I think I like came and Paula. I didn't know. We bought the album that had like the silver ball and all like the purple from a few years ago. What's funny is they started an indie band, but like my kids know that. Oh, they're huge. Like they're huge.

That's wild. Like it has like seeped into just general pop culture. Well, they're all over TikTok. You know, they're like the perfect. Let's make an audio to them. This is like a little, like the, it's like a soundscape with cool stuff. Yeah, yeah. Some Tyco in there.

Those guys are from Sweden, so you can. Really? Sweden, they love soul music and they love, they, they've, they, they, they, they, I think they're the best at combining modern electronic and old soul. Mm-hmm. So, uh. Why do you think that is? Did they just take time to appreciate the old soul and like, yeah, because, I mean,

think about how many. festivals happened in Sweden back in the day. All the jazz festivals, all the funk festivals. That was basically, if you were black artists back in the day, it was the only place you can actually go and get paid was in Europe and mainly Sweden and other spots adjacent to them as well.

Also, the festivals can go a lot longer because the daylight lasts a long time during the summer. Hey. Montrose Jazz Festival. What year do you guys think? 2020. That could be 2024. 2018. 2020.

Right? He hit it on the note. Oh. Wow. It felt like they released it right before COVID hit. Right. It was like a fun song that they're like, oh shit, the world's not fun anymore. Yeah.

This one, I think I think I came across it on, you know, my preferred radio station in the morning, K-E-X-X-P. Yes, Seattle station. So that's my favorite station. It's really great.

Makes me feel good. And I think so it was like just on my list and I was going through stuff trying to see like. I just realized a bunch of stuff on my list was from this year. Like, uh, save it for the end of the year. I know, I know, but it's like, uh, but it is weird. Like I was like, I was like, oh, this came out a while. This came out.

It feels like a long year. But, um, this is a one of those things. It feels like, you know, stitched and taped together. Uh, I know it's clearly like all like done on a computer. But like it's a, it does feel like, you know, handmade, which I really like. They're called Cootie Catcher.
