Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Empty Netters podcast. Can you believe what this has become? There was a full 48 hours where I felt like I was like literally Superman. Jumbo loves playing Fortnite, so he gets on the sticks. Did TR show you the sauna cycle or was that all year? No, no, I invented that. Almost a year now that I haven't taken a body check. That's kind of nice.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Finish tonight with some chicken fingers and a few guineasas is right into you guys. That's where this pod came to life. Ice is ready, and we are back with another episode of the Empty Netters Project. brought to you by BetMGM. I'm your host, Dan Powers, with me on the sticks, whispering sweet nothings in the Irish language into your ears. Sean Buffer, producer extraordinaire. And we're going to be talking a lot about injuries today,
Starting point is 00:00:47 so it seems pertinent to remind everyone that this kid once broke his arm on a hammock because he's so unathletic, Chris Bowers. He was flipped on the hammock, as always. Well, did you break it or not? And then... Did you break it or not? Yes. And then...
Starting point is 00:01:00 And did you say, as always? Yeah, I did. Okay, good. And then I want people to do. know that I was flipped on the hammock by, well, maybe I, well, whatever, I was slipped on the hammock by a cousin of mine. And after I told my mother that I would be, I didn't like when that cousin pushed me on the hammock because he always flipped me. And she said, he won't do that. Go play with your cousin. Go be a team player. And play with your cousin. He was pushing me on the hammock. And I said,
Starting point is 00:01:26 I remember going, you're pushing me too high. I don't like this. And then he immediately slowed it down and I was like, oh, wow, all you have to do is ask for things in this life. And then he immediately went up and under, flipped me over. I went to go like this, broke my arm. Snapped. Then no one believed me that I broke my arm. I came in, because it wasn't like a compound fracture, you know? Sure. And I come inside and I'm like, my arm is now broken. Mom. And she goes, no, it isn't. And I go, yes, it is. He flipped me. Don't ruin this day with your cousins. And my mom. And I said, my arm is now broken. And then they said no. And then I left, left me with a broken arm for several days.
Starting point is 00:02:00 And then we went to the playground at Coastal Ridge Elementary School. And they go, go play. Yeah. They go, go, go, go, go, I guess I can't. I have a broken arm. And they go, go on the monkey bars right now because I love the monkey bars. Yeah. And I go, I couldn't.
Starting point is 00:02:13 My arm is broken. I couldn't possibly. I have a literal broken arm. And they go, then they go like this, go on the monkey bars. So I go like this, take one swing, immediately fall off the monkey bars because my arm is broken. And they go, oh, shit. Is your arm broken?
Starting point is 00:02:24 And I was like, yes, we go to the hospital arm broken cast. I'm surprised Unbelievable parenting I also I love how in this like warped horrible recollection you have
Starting point is 00:02:41 every adult in your life is like the adults in Derry Main and it like they're just like you have to go do this go on the monkey bars I have a broken arm I'm surprised that child
Starting point is 00:02:50 protective services weren't called me too I mean that's a horrible horrible situation outrageous Speaking of child protective services, call the Hughes parents. Someone go take Jack away from the Hughes family. Dude.
Starting point is 00:03:06 We're getting right into hot ice here. We've got a lot to discuss. And the headline of this episode, Jack Hughes, out eight weeks, two months because he cut his hand. Eating dinner. At a team dinner. So here's some top line stuff. Yeah. Sucks.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Sucks big time. Sucks butts. It sucks butt, man. He was having a great year and the devils are having a great year. Sure. And I am forced, I'm obligated to say this, however unlucky it may be, this is a bad look when you can never stay healthy. Like when you just when you can't finish seasons And everyone's like oh you always get hurt
Starting point is 00:03:57 And you're like no I don't and I'll show you This is a bad fact put it that way This is a bad fact Dude it's it's real bad It's bad I like you're right I mean it's it's so tough Jack Hughes in his career has gone 61 games 56 games 49 games 78 games good
Starting point is 00:04:16 And that was the 99 point season 62 62 And now here he is about to miss what 20 games Yeah, two months. God, maybe more. Maybe 30 games? Yeah, I mean, like, it's, this is horrible.
Starting point is 00:04:33 And, and, and listen, we hate injuries. We hate them. We don't talk about them. We don't talk about them. We don't like talking about them in the future sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We will talk about them. We analyze past injuries.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Yes. This is a not okay one. On the spectrum of injuries that are okay, a not okay this one is not okay you cannot be cutting your hand
Starting point is 00:04:58 on a wine glass at a team dinner one more he was having too much fun one more thing to say the and I'm not this isn't
Starting point is 00:05:08 I know the answer to this question but I'm forced to bring it up yeah Olympic rosters are due December 30 oh he's toast
Starting point is 00:05:14 and he will be he will know he will be healthy per the current timeline he should be plenty healthy to play and if I'm team
Starting point is 00:05:22 USA, I name him because I go he'll be fine by then. But he is going to be out still by the time these are due. And that is a factor. Yes. Like he should be back mid-January. Yeah, no, I get it. I understand how timelines work. Yeah. And months. And you're right. But this is, there's a few things here. I love Jack Jack. We are a big Jack Jack. We're a big Jack-jack pod. If he had played better at four nations, I would 100% agree with you. and be like he has to be a lock for this team. But when I think about a player like Jack Hughes and how important his hands are to his game,
Starting point is 00:06:00 and when, I mean, let's, I don't know any of the details. We don't know any of the details. We wouldn't presume to know. But in eight week, I cut my hand on a wine glass injury after an immediate surgery means a tendon was severed. Oh, yeah. So I'm like, I don't know. I don't know that it's a guarantee that you name him to the roster
Starting point is 00:06:20 and he's going to be back and like nothing has happened. I assume he's going to be back like nothing happened. And I would name him to the roster. But I don't know that it is a certainty. Yeah, fair. I would say that's right. Especially, like Jack Hughes is a center, right? And maybe he played some wing.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Maybe he would have played some wing. And you've got guys like Tage Thompson who didn't make this fucking team. And look at what he's doing right now in Buffalo. In lowly Buffalo. Oh, God. So I just don't, I don't know. I don't think it is like a, a definite certainty, and he would have been a, if not still is, on that team.
Starting point is 00:06:55 But, dude, the fucking devils man. Like, this is just so, it's actually comical how fucking unlucky this team is and how bad their injury history is. And they currently are without Jack Hughes, your best player, your star player, Dougie Hamilton, Evgeny Dadov, Kovacev, Brett Pesci, Connor Brown, Cody Glass, Zach McEwen. What is going on here, dude? And what we're going to get you later? And does it make sense that they're named the devils,
Starting point is 00:07:30 and there seems to be some witchcraft going on? That's interesting, a name change could be in order. Or do we exercise the devils? Exercise. Have you ever considered that your team is named after the New Jersey Devil and maybe you're playing with fire. Where was he from again? Remember we were asking people? The New Jersey devil?
Starting point is 00:07:49 Yeah, he's like... It's from the... It's not a Hokonost It's like... Yeah, it's like... It's like... Sean, will you look that up? Where is the New Jersey devil from?
Starting point is 00:07:58 It's from like the... Fuck, I know this. It's like the some woods in Jersey. Yeah, it's the... It's the... Yeah, the pine barons, dude. The pine barons. The pine barons.
Starting point is 00:08:10 He's in the pine barons. We gotta go get him. We gotta kill him. I... I legitimately, this is a message to the New Jersey Devils. Someone get him and kill them. No, fly us out. We will go ghost hunting.
Starting point is 00:08:20 We'll grab Rusty and Willie. They've done ghost hunting before. We'll go ghost hunting. And we will exercise the demons of the New Jersey devil that has clearly put a hex on your hockey team. Because I'm looking at eight players, key players out with injury. And Jack just got his hand cut off. Can I give you a couple scenarios of how this happened to Jack and you tell me. Yeah, which one happened?
Starting point is 00:08:45 No, no, not which one happened, just which one? Before we even get, do they all include a curse from a demon beast? Okay, they have been cursed. Yeah, yeah. We're living in a world where a demon beast in the Pine Barons has cursed this team for naming, without talking to him. Yeah. That's all we need to do. We need to go to the Pine Barons. We need to find the New Jersey Devil and be like, do we have your permission to have the team named after you?
Starting point is 00:09:08 Yeah. Okay. Here are four scenarios And I want you to rank them one to four One is most likely No no one is you are most mad Oh at Jack And four is you go
Starting point is 00:09:22 All good Okay okay and to be clear These are all made up Yeah here's scenario one Uh Someone spills Someone breaks a glass Yeah
Starting point is 00:09:35 Does someone not Jack breaks a glass Sorry Right. One is I'm most mad? Yeah. Okay, okay. Someone breaks a class and everyone's like, oh, shoot. And everyone's like, oh, okay, hold on. And Jack's like, I got it, I got it.
Starting point is 00:09:49 And someone's running to get a dust pan, but Jack grab some paper towels and he's going like this across the counter. Yeah. Just scooping up, swiping up the big pieces of glass. And he goes, oh. And one of them right through a tent and on the side of his hand. Okay. That scenario.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Okay. Good guy, Jack. Cedario 2 is Jack is opening a bottle of wine. I, you by the way, what you were just describing, I don't know if you know this about me, was literally something that happened to me. I don't know if you can see this shot,
Starting point is 00:10:17 but I have a big scar on my palm right there. Once in college, a bottle dropped in our apartment, and I was bent down, picking it up, and this girl, Kristen, came, like, barging into the room drunk with, like, a towel and didn't see me bent down, cleaning it up, and she like hit me and my hand went forward and like ripped open on the bottle. And I was like, are you, what's happening?
Starting point is 00:10:41 Anyway, go on. Jack is opening a bottle of the first bottle. Yeah. Okay. And he puts the wine key in it, twist, twist, twist. Nice. Pulling it out. And it's, you know how sometimes it's the very end?
Starting point is 00:10:52 Sometimes it's like a little. It gets a little stuck. Yeah. So he's like, and as he pops it out, his hand just goes farther than he thought it was going to go. And there were a couple glasses here getting ready to be poured into. And it just like, as it rips through the bottle, hits the glass, his hand goes right across the broken glass. And he's like, oh my God. That's scenario two.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Yeah. Scenario three. All of these scenarios are giving me the spooks. Scenario three. Like slicing my hand open, right? Jack, someone opens wine, pours it for everybody, and Jack stands up and gives one of the most inspired leadership toasts about taking this season seriously and committing to their craft and bringing a stand by cup back to the New Jersey Devils. And he says, everything I do, I do for you, boys. And he puts his glass in the middle, and they all reach into cheers.
Starting point is 00:11:36 One person, one player cheers too aggressive, breaks Jack's glass, which slices his slam open. Oh, my God. That's scenario three. Scenario four. They were about to win 20 straight games. The fourth and final scenario is Jack looks at a teammate, an unnamed teammate, and goes like this. Let's shatter wine glasses and sword fight. And they both go, and then sword fight with shattered wine glasses.
Starting point is 00:11:59 And he was skewered. And he was skewered. I don't know how that's not. one. You would be disappointed in Jack. I do, listen, if I'm being reasonable, I don't know how that wouldn't be number one. But that would be sick, though. It would be really funny.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Yeah. If it came out that that, if they're like, listen, dude. Jack has a joke, but Jasper Brat has been stabbed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He won the, you won the, you won the, um. So that's going to be one. Okay. I think honest to God, my number two.
Starting point is 00:12:38 is the speech because, because I'm so mad of what could have been. Yeah. I'm not mad at how it happened. I'm mad at what could it. Like, everything was so good. Yeah. And then it became so bad. So that's why it's so terrible.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Okay. And then you might have gone right in order. I think three is the wine one. Yeah, opening the bottles. No, actually, three is, what are you doing cleaning up, Jack? That's what I'm saying? That might have been. You're at a restaurant.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Why you, dude, don't use your head. hands on broken glass. I know. Your hands are your tools. Are you insane? Yeah. I make my living with my hands. I make my living with my hands, dude.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Like, he is Joe Bluth. He can't be cleaning up broken pieces of glass. So I think the wine one is the last one. Okay. He was a little too strong. And he was being a, also, but also like, I had a restaurant, why are you up in the wine? Yeah. In both scenario one and two, a waiter is getting fired.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Yeah. Because you're not doing your job. Speech should have been four. Speech. He did nothing wrong. So it's just. so bad, this is so, so bad for the poor, poor devils. Do you have any fears for the devils now?
Starting point is 00:13:48 No. This happened at perfect time. Okay. This could be just what they need. This could be exactly. This actually could have been just what the devils needed. There is a chance that these key injuries happened at the right time. This could be just what they need.
Starting point is 00:14:00 How horrible was last injury for Jack? Yeah. I mean, it was like that was the worst thing that could have had. So if Jack is going to miss 22. something, 20 to 30 games. I'd rather it be now. Let him get to a nice hot start. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Let him miss some time. Let him come back and get hot again. Yeah. That's what you need. I think you can kind of move too with this. They're in first right now and like they're, you know, they're in a great spot. They're playing well with all these injuries. You just like you just hope that this isn't deflating.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Yeah, right. Because the devil's being good is fun. Jack being good is fun. You hate to see it, but I do think I was talking to Pasha, like, we need to, I genuinely, I mean this, we will go to, we will go to Jersey and go to the Pine Barons and we will try to get permission from the New Jersey Devil. I swear to God I will do that. And if not that, we need to look into hiring a witch doctor, a shaman, someone to sage the locker room. And this is like Ted Lassow. Did you watch Ted Lassow?
Starting point is 00:15:04 Oh, yeah. This is like when they find out that the training ground is. is cursed and they all have to like burn and that's what the devils need to go into their training facility and they all need to have a token of their choosing and they need to burn it in a barrel and give it to the new jersey devil yeah and we will be those people yes i will do it it'll it'll it'll make it you know better for everybody uh quick roundup of injuries yep because there's been there have been a lot um and forgive us any fans if we miss one on your team that we wish we had talked about Charlie McAvoy took a puck to the fucking face, lost a tooth immediately,
Starting point is 00:15:40 but sounds like he's okay. Drew Dowdy. Yep. He's going to be out week to week, blocked shot. He left in a walking boot, but can confirm it's not anything as serious as last time, which is fantastic. He'll miss a few. He'll miss a few games.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Hate to see that, though. Oh, dude, and it was right away. And it's also, if you haven't seen the play, I, And keep in mind, the man left the ice putting no weight on his foot. And I'm pretty sure that was an icing, by the way, so that's not supposed to change, but he is allowed to change because he's hurt. And he's literally gliding negative one mile an hour to the bench and then has to hop off no weight on his foot. Watch the play again.
Starting point is 00:16:24 He takes a puck directly off the ankle. It knows immediately that something horrible has happened is like writhing in pain on the ground, gets up, intercepts a pass, stick handles the puck out of trouble, gets it out of his own, and then it goes. It's unbelievable. Now I can't walk. It's unbelievable. I'm like, oh my God, dude.
Starting point is 00:16:40 So I will say the kings do not need defensive injuries. So glad to see that this isn't going to be long term, but you don't want to see that at all. Thomas Harle. Thomas Harley. Another entry. Week to week. Lower body. Lower body.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Week to week. Again, I love hearing on week to week. Me too. but some of those are weeks. Yeah, it's a liberal. But they're like too much. It's a liberal week to it. Yeah, and I'm like, Jesus, dude.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Yeah. And again, I'll say what I said about Jack, these are Olympic. Injuries from right now, moving forward are scarier than normal. Yeah. Because you're like, oh, fuck, you just lost your Olympic job.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Yeah, which blows. Yeah, it's true. The Dallas stars are so good right now. Nightmare, dude. Nightmare. Timing. Like, I don't want to lose Tom Cawley when we're fucking firing.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Same with the devils. Yeah, we needed them to get a little less leaky. Yep. They patched up the holes. Thomas Harley, big part of that. Yep. So him being out, you hate to see it. But, well, you know, we talked a lot about Dallas last week, so we're going to not spend too much time.
Starting point is 00:17:47 But I do just because some fans on Twitter were like, hey, give the Dallas some more credit. Oh, yeah, yeah. And I was, what we did was we gave him a pee-p-whack and they tightened it up. Yeah. So I don't want to. They respond. Yeah. But I do, I do want to quickly just say, Jason Robertson, the guy that everyone wanted to trade, he is
Starting point is 00:18:05 on a career year pace. I saw that I saw something that was like the most points in November maybe it was. Yeah. And it's like Connor. And dude, it's actually insane that McDavid's two points off the league lead now or something. But it's Nate Connor and then Miko and Robo. I'm not sure if that was an order,
Starting point is 00:18:20 but just so sick that Dallas has two wings in that. Robo absolutely firing. I saw you talking on hockey talk about, oh, we wanted to trade Jason Roberts. Yeah. Insane. Had a had a haddy the other night. And Miro's got like 12 points in six games and rent and is just a machine.
Starting point is 00:18:35 chance that you just you just unlock something dan when you give someone a pee-p-wack oh they get it's been whacked and then they they careful they they go harder that and then and then i'm not entirely sure that that's what happens to everyone pal and so just and then if we stroke them off too much on the pod they they they soften because we stroke them off to completion and then they We need to start edging teams. You, you're now, you're announcing to the world
Starting point is 00:19:09 that you, violence arouses you. Just a flick, just a flick. Okay. Not a punch, just a flick. You've been reading too much pocked.
Starting point is 00:19:17 100%. Like a bulldozer day. Yeah. You, this is a you kink and we don't kink shame on this show. We do not. So I'm going to be, I will support you. Yep.
Starting point is 00:19:27 But I just want, I want you to keep that on your side of the table. I just want Dallas and us to know that they're asking us to know that they're asking for excessive stroke off. And I'm telling you, excessive stroke off leads to soften. Yeah, we need to edge them. Yeah. So, good job, Dallas.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Not great. Not that good. Not that good. Good job. You got an injury now. Another one we wanted to hit on Kirby Doc. Friend of the program. Friend of the program, out four to six weeks with a fractured foot.
Starting point is 00:19:50 Fucking brutal. God, these foot injuries. He was playing. He started solo and was playing great. Yeah, he sure was. And you had even talked about that two C spot. So now it's just put into, uh, sharper light, maybe accelerate, maybe accelerate that idea.
Starting point is 00:20:09 But Montreal Canudians, they got some space. They're playing well, but have, I don't want to say faded a little bit, but they're, you know, they're now third in the Atlantic when they were succumbly sitting atop. They've got a couple games in hand, though, so whatever, whatever. But the HABs, that gold diffs down to minus two. I don't know. You get a second line center that's really, really strong. Atlantic is so weird.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Every team is a minus gold if except for the Bs who are plus two. I know. It's so funny. And also everyone in the Atlantic is like pretty good. They're not like no one is awesome right now. The Pacific's also weird, but it's like the central tons of teams in the green. Toronto plus 31. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Met tons of teams in the green. Atlantic literally. In Atlantic, I'm like, these teams are all so good. And I'm like, you all blow. Yeah. What's going on here? You maybe all suck. It's wild.
Starting point is 00:21:02 But that is something to keep an eye on. I've been saying, I just think, God almighty, could they use a second line center that's like just that will make Doc go out to the wing or maybe to third line center and make them even stronger. And this is now a situation where, you know, given what we're just saying about the Atlantic, I think a lot of things are going to go up and down and left and right all season long. but I don't think that if you're Montreal, now is the time to slip, that's not what we need. So maybe make a move.
Starting point is 00:21:36 This is when you find out. Now they'll know. Now they'll know. This is just what they need it. Maybe make a move. Moves that we love. Oh, yeah. Been telling all these Kings fans not to worry.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Everyone was freaking out. Adrian Kempi. Steins' his extension with the LA Kings. Eight years, 85-mill, 10.625-88. the coming off his 5.5-0 deal. Nice bump. Oh, yeah. Real nice bump.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Adrian Kempi, 20. About to be 30. Is he 29? Oh, yeah. You said this is probably the last contract he'll sign. It'll be 37, 38 when he's done. Certainly the last long-term contract he'll sign. Couldn't be happier for our guy.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Yep. I mean, this is just fucking incredible. How do you feel about the? deal. I absolutely love it for both sides. And what I mean by that is extremely well-deserved raise for him and 85 mil. You're good, dude. You're good. That's cool. You're fine. Everyone's fine. Your kids are fine. Just had a beautiful kid. But he could have gotten more, which is why I think it's a win for both, because he's happy. He wants to be here. He got a number he's thrilled about. And the Kings should be absolutely thrilled about it too.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Oh my God. I was joking with you that because I was looking at the contracts and obviously they paid Kev and they paid Byfield, but nothing huge. No? And this is the biggest deal they've given since they gave Dewey 11. Yes. And I was loving that Dewey gets to still be like, I still make more. Not as much as me.
Starting point is 00:23:16 You bitch. But that's a win for the Kings because like I said, they could have more. He, I wrote this down, 139 goals over the last four seasons tied for 20th among all players. And the thing is, well, I probably shouldn't even say that on the air, but the thing is this. The P doesn't get enough recognition still. No, he does not. You know what I mean? It's a West Coast thing.
Starting point is 00:23:41 I think if he played on an East Coast market, he'd be even more. But I'm not sure the, even just above casual, there's casual fan, there's diehard fan, whatever this guy is. Yeah. Engaged fan. Engaged fan. I think the engaged fan is unaware how good Adrian Kempi is. I completely agree, especially in the sense. you had said he does everything for the team.
Starting point is 00:24:02 I don't think fans who are the engaged fan, very good hockey fans who pay attention. I'm sure they watch some Kings games. It's the stat watchers, man. It's the people who go, I saw someone on, you know, when we posted it on X, someone was like, you know, over 10 for a guy who's going to be a perennial 70 to 80 point guy. What a waste.
Starting point is 00:24:24 It's just, it's a wrong. I was like it's a real bad take, man. And it's because they don't understand what Adrian Kempi does on, like, he is a penalty killer. He's throwing hits around like crazy. He is a 200 foot winger, which is so fucking rare. And he's just, he's a leader. He's a presence in the room.
Starting point is 00:24:47 He's, he, I think this is the future captain of the L.A. Kings. I love that. I think we're going to get, we'll see what they do. But if I had my brothers, if I had. all of my druthers when Copey hangs them up. I think just like Marci and Boston, you throw the sea on Dewey for a few years until he retires. And then I think it's juice.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I don't even think it's a question. What he's doing, 35 goals, 75 points, he's doing on a team that runs a trap system. Correct. Put him on a team that is offensive-minded and then go cry about his point production. And it's literally that simple. He's doing this on a team that is designed to play defense and not let him be have a hundred points which he could have if he wanted i mean it's it's it's funny too it's like i don't think people realize how big he is he's six three he's like i said he throws the body around a time he's
Starting point is 00:25:38 gritty he's gritty he'll get in it with people and yeah if you put him put him on colorado put him on edmonton put him on dallas put him on florida he is he is a hundred point guy no question and that's not to say anything bad about the kings it's it's their system that they play like you Yeah, well, until playoffs. Yeah, too. So, massive congrats to Kemp's, and also deserves every penny of it. And I'm just so happy for him. And if he wants to throw us to Miles.
Starting point is 00:26:12 You want to throw us a couple? We go to dinner. Yeah, maybe you pick up the next tab. Sipping on to you. Here's the big thing for me is, what is the future of the L.A. Kings for you? as in their success or as in their roster you're about to retire one of if not the greatest LA king of all time Dewey is 36 or you know about to be 36 here and they've done a reasonable job there was that stretch where I remember it was a couple years ago where they were like
Starting point is 00:26:48 oh the kings are trying to remember we were at hockey wood or whatever and Luke was like we're going to read to on the fly like the goal is playoffs. But they were in this era of
Starting point is 00:26:57 of, you know, the cup team is done and we're not a playoff team. That was, that was the talk. And then they were
Starting point is 00:27:05 really surprising that year made playoffs and then I think lost to Edmonton, but it was, that was that year, that first Edmonton loss. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:13 And then you found yourself in that tricky, I might add, expectation setting thing with fans where they're like, oh, if I'm management,
Starting point is 00:27:22 I'm going, oh, fuck, we were about to do a rebuild, but now we made playoffs and everyone's going, okay, well, we're good now. So they were really tasked of retooling on the fly in a way. And I think they've done a good job. They're not a team that I'm going, oh, they're about to win fucking cups, which maybe is purgatory. Yeah, but so this, okay, this is where I'm not, I'm not sure. And let me say this.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Not enough credit is given to this team with the pivot from the PL situation. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like we talked about that, you know, you make that PL trade and you have Gabe doing great in Winnipeg. And PL comes over, not a right fit in L.A. And then before that deal kicks in, they swing him and they get Dars, who is their star goalie. And we talked about last year, PL was doing so well in Washington, Darsh was doing so well in L.A.
Starting point is 00:28:26 We were like, wow, perfect. That worked out for everybody. Yeah. So that was a massive pivot because they got PL and they were like, you are our Copee replacement. You are our star center moving forward. Didn't work out.
Starting point is 00:28:38 They make a move. And now, I think very quietly, you have to, we have to look two, three years ahead here in the days of no copy, no dewey.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Yep. And you've got Dars, Dars, who's, I think, fantastic and will be fantastic for a few years. How old is he, though? I think he's 35. Yeah, so give me two years more, maybe. That's a concern. I don't think it's a concern.
Starting point is 00:29:02 I think it's a concern for me. Well, you're an idiot because you forget about Portillo. They have a fantastic goalie waiting in the wings. Okay, okay. So you've got Adrian Kempi, 19 points in 19 games. You've got Quentin Byfield, 17 points in 19 games. 29, 23. You've got Kevin Fiala, 14.
Starting point is 00:29:19 points in 19 games. You've got Brandt Clark and you've got Mikey Anderson. And I just think, like you mentioned, very quietly, good contracts, guys locked up for a good to Clark will be the next one. But I'm like, you guys are pretty good here. This is a pretty good shape situation. Laugh Clark, QB, Kev, Juice, Coozy, Mikey, Fogh. I'm going to be listing all guys in their 20s, Turk. and then even like Phil Dono's 32 Joel's 32 there's a runway
Starting point is 00:29:54 there for sure so I do give them a lot of credit for that and you know what actually to be fair I'll pump them up one more because the teams that come to mind that I'm going oh man the docs like these guys that are really about to go they had incredible draft picks
Starting point is 00:30:10 you know they got to pick in the top of the draft and really build this thing so what the Kings have done on the fly their prospect pool beyond what I'm looking at on this roster isn't great. If you look at like, oh, the scouting and all that ranking. But what I'm looking at right here is competitive. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:25 And is a playoff team. And if you make the playoffs, you can win the Stanley Cup. Yeah. Pretty cool. Very cool. Pretty cool. Juice is going to be there the whole time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:33 I'll be right there with him. It's fantastic. God, I'd love to see it. Did you want to talk about some goalies? Yeah. I saw some cool stuff in the goalie world. And it was the goalies. best and worst
Starting point is 00:30:49 by goals saved above expected okay hold on hold on goalies best and worst like as in best and worst goalies or they're
Starting point is 00:30:59 okay okay okay okay and it's a staff that's like this is what you should have saved yeah and this is how many goals you've saved above your expected versus how many less do you want to try to guess
Starting point is 00:31:09 anyone goalies who have the highest highest above saves above expected saves above expected goals giving up a book. Okay. Goleys, I have not looked at this, I promise. I'm going to say LT is up there. I'm going to say sway is up there. I would guess maybe Dobesh is up there.
Starting point is 00:31:34 And maybe Spencer Knight. I bet Spencer Knight's way up there. LT is number one in the league. Come on. 12.9. Sway is 2.11.5. Spencer Knight 5, 9.3 Top 10 is L.T. Swamen, Sheelob. Nice! Hellebuck, Spencer Knight, Ascroft. Nice.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Sorokin, Dostal, Walsdet, Demko. Fucking, hey. Demko 6.3, number 10. At negative 12.5. Goal save against expected. Oh, are we about to sue or someone? Well, just this is important. Jordan Biddington. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:16 Negative 8.9. Next worst. Olmark. Negative 4.9. 7th worst. Markstrom. Right below him. Negative 4.6.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Dustin Wolf. Yeah. Negative 4.3. Who fucking snip that, Chelly? Chelly is all over. Wolf having a slump. Negative 4.3, negative 3.4.4. The next two, Gibber, Camp Talbot.
Starting point is 00:32:41 So... Where is Gustafson on that? Because Swedish goaltenders. I only had... Top 10 and where's time. Yeah, looking great there. A couple things I wanted to point out. If you are the capitals, you are blowing your brains out and making strive standing
Starting point is 00:32:54 behind you. Dude. Because you are in literal last place and you have L.T. The best goalie on earth. Hey. Stop breaking the law, asshole. Oh, dude. I would, I, someone asked yesterday, it was like, what are the caps need to do?
Starting point is 00:33:10 And I was like, they need to score goals. Like, Jesus Christ. Yep. So that is L. Brutel. If you are the senators, you are thrilled because you're like, Leahz Olmark is playing the second worst goalie in the league. And we are very... Based on this metric.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Yes, but this is an important metric. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just don't want to trash anyone. You're in the mixer, though. And he's like, I'll be way better on this. He said that already. He's like, I'm about to be way back. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:38 So you were in the mixer. That's cool. That's like the otter stat. Yep. Binner, if you go, what's wrong with the blues, I go this. Him.
Starting point is 00:33:47 This exactly is it. But you know why it's happening? Because the Olympics. Correct. He doesn't care. He doesn't care about anything but the Olympics. This man is a mutant when it comes to international play. And he is like, or like high stakes play.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I think he's just genuinely like, he's just thinking about Olympics right now. But I'm like, dude, you've got to tighten it up if you want to keep that job. LT's taking your job. Are you? I mean, dude, he's already. taking the job. There's literally no chance. I mean, you don't need to, hey, brother, you don't need to ask me who I think should be starting
Starting point is 00:34:18 in the end goal for that team. But clearly, the people who picked that roster have a fucking wand in a knot and stuffed up their bottom because they're, how is this even a question? LT's the best goalie in the league. Is there a chance? Is there any universe, because there is for me, but is there any universe been in your world that he doesn't make the team? Yes. Oh, okay. Uh, actually, probably not. Just because Canada doesn't have the best tendees. I know, it's a real problem. Um, where is Wolf is Canadian, right?
Starting point is 00:34:49 Yeah. I mean, God, it sucks that he's having a tough year. Because like, to me, if he was even, uh, shades of last year, I'm like, how do you not pick him for this team? But like, Jari's been pretty good. Yep. But I think, yeah, I think it's L.T. Jari and Binner. Um, I mean, LT is, what? No, Hill.
Starting point is 00:35:07 Well, is Hill, like, what's it, Hill's health status? right now. I mean, like, I would always take Hill, always, for sure. But, I mean, LT is the starting goal for this team. And it's not, you are jackasses. But what's frustrating is you're jackasses who might and probably still win gold. So you get to just be jackasses. And I'm like, congratulations. So quick hitters on this. Swamen just wanted to point out, we talked about his numbers the other week where it's like, you know, it was like two high twos. I'll get it exactly right. I think it was his save percentage. 299, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:42 I remember you said, and 902 save percentage. And everyone's going, oh, that's not that good enough. And I'm like, yes, it is. He's literally stealing games. Exactly. Stealing games. Exactly right. So exciting to see Asker off there if you're a Sharks.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Oh, God, isn't that cool? And you were like, I really hope that works out because that could be a real, that could be an accelerant on our where relevant. So exciting to see him there. So exciting to see Spencer Knight there if you're a Hawks fan. Incredible. I've always been a Spencer Night. guy, so of you.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Sheila, is it, is it, is it, is it, is it, is it, when do you get to say it's for real?
Starting point is 00:36:16 Now, like, I'm talking like, for real, for real. Now. He is an all-time goal. Okay. One of the best goalies
Starting point is 00:36:23 I didn't know, I didn't know what, for real. The best goal is to ever live. Okay, okay. He is a starting goalie in the NHL. He's a starting goalie in the NFL. He might be like the guy.
Starting point is 00:36:31 In Vancouver, that's another one. Dude, it won't it be crazy, man. If we look back, Spencer Knight, you can,
Starting point is 00:36:37 live with because you got you a cup. It got you a cup. You had Bob and he was dealing with some stuff. If you are Van or Nashville and you watch Shilob and Ascroft go compete in conference finals moving forward, you're like, oh, no, we blew that. Yeah. It's so tough. I mean, like you've got Demko. Like, you've got Demko.
Starting point is 00:37:05 Yeah. What did they get for Sheelob, though? Not a ton. So, but here's a question for you, pal. At what point do you trade Jari? And now, tomorrow. Like, I, I, he's actually been okay this year, but he's been great. I mean, he's, I think he's banged up right now.
Starting point is 00:37:27 But, like, if you have, I think it's, you kind of need a tandem in this week. Well, you've got like Sergei Miroshov, but I think he's 21. No, I think you need, I need to, I need to. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but maybe next year. Yeah, yeah. But I think you sign someone. I think you need Gary.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Because Jarvie's 30. Yeah. And he's on a great contract. Think about Columbus. Yeah. Fuck. Think about Columbus, Chris. That's nuts.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Yeah, I think you need them this year. You need them this year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But she loves is great. So can I, can I just quickly rant about two of these goalies that you've named? Yes. Number one, Jeremy Swayman. I've got all the receipts.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Yeah. Okay. I know. And I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm looking. There were some bees. fans who wanted us to talk about the bees again. We talked about them last episode. Bees are a blast.
Starting point is 00:38:14 But we will not overly stroke. And we will not over. We will edge. We will edge. And I'm also going to say this, dude. I know you. Every one of you. And of which many are quote unquote media people.
Starting point is 00:38:29 Some of you fraudulent blue checkers in the Boston area. And I've got them all. And I'm giving you the opportunity to apologize. because all these people who are fucking posting photos assay being like, that's my goalie. And I'm like, oh, is it? Yeah. Is it after what you said?
Starting point is 00:38:50 Yep. So the door is wide open for an apology. Come on in. And then the other Spencer Knight. God. That one, we're talking Olympics, brother. That one is interesting. Yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Because the U.S. goalies are so good in Hellebuck, in sway, in otter, in Demko. Who's also on that list? And now in night. And I'm like, you can only take three goalies. Holy moly. He, dude, I said years ago,
Starting point is 00:39:25 this was like maybe the Vegas year. I said Spencer Dight would take Bob's job. You did. It was the Vegas year. And I was like, he's literally better than him. And he, Bob is incredible. I will apologize for that, but I stand by that I think Spencer Knight is that good. I think he's Bob level good.
Starting point is 00:39:45 And he will, how old is Hellibum? Hellebubbub. I don't know. 31? Spencer Knight, Hellibuck's 32. 32, okay. So I think maybe you kind of do that. Like, Otter's only 26, which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Sway 26. How old's Demco? 28 or 29? I think. Demco 29. Yeah. So I think we're careening towards a sway otter night. Yeah. Trifecta. I think that's our dream. Yeah. That's the U.S.'s dream. It's not the Vancouver Canucks dream. I'll tell you. What sucks is, and Winnipeg fans don't get mad at me. What sucks is that Hala Bucks just the starter. Oh, 100%. And, but like if you just lose again. But he was great. He was. He was. He was. great. But like he, his
Starting point is 00:40:40 playoff struggles are very real, and we lost in four nations, and it was not his fault at all. He played great. But like, it's just... He'll be on a leash. He'll be on a leash. No, it just like sucks that it's a narrative. Like, he literally has to win gold, or else people are just going to be like, are we seriously
Starting point is 00:40:56 starting this guy? He's got no clutch gene. And I'm like, if he gets cheesed in one game, it will be like... You're gone. Yeah, yeah. Okay, and then last thing I want to say on goalies, I need to eat some crow here, because as of really, right now, and this is changing daily, of course, but in the Atlantic Division, sitting in the number two spot with 19 games played and an 11, 7 and 1 record with 23 points is the Detroit Red Wings, who I announced from the Mountain Tops would finish in the four seed and make playoffs and Laz made fun of me and everyone made fun of me.
Starting point is 00:41:29 I'm loving where the boys are at, but I said the reason that would happen is because they finally went and got John Gibson. Yeah. Or a goalie. It wasn't specifically him. and he hasn't been terrible by any means, but actually he kind of has. To his standards. To his standards, I think he's been better. Career, 2-90 goals against 909 save percentage.
Starting point is 00:41:53 So far this season through 11 games, 3-3-1 goals against 875 save percentage. Yeah. So I'm loving. The Red Wings are making me look even better because they're accomplishing what they're accomplishing without the added goalie play, which I thought was the missing piece. So I need to eat a little bit of crow on Gibber, but Gibber, my guy, you've got tons of time, dude. We've got tons of time. Get it figured out.
Starting point is 00:42:15 And I believe in you, and I believe in the wings. And I believe in Harvey Dent. So for the second time this season, I put the Red Wings on a fraud watch alert, where I said, if they don't win, it was like right at the start. Yeah. Like they lost a couple bad ones. And I was like, they need to win three of their next four or they're on fucking fraud watch. And then they won three of their next four. And last night I went after the Buffalo loss,
Starting point is 00:42:39 awful, which was horrendous. That was old, that was old wigs, dude. That was recently old wigs. I was like, guys. I then, last night, I said, this is a must win game against Rangers or you're on fraud watch, and they won. And the two times, they have responded. When I, when I threatened them with fraud watch, they get it done.
Starting point is 00:42:59 And someone was like, I wonder if they're saving it. And I'm like, I love that attitude. Yeah. But the wings are, they are officially for me in a like, times up. Yeah. But this is it. This is the year you've got to make playoffs and you've got to stop being jackasses. And they've had a couple of games this year where they're jackasses.
Starting point is 00:43:21 That Buffalo game was one of them. And clean up. Clean it up. Clean it up. Okay. Let's take an ad break and we'll be right back. Hockey is back, which means you need to get in on the action with BetMGM like we are doing. it is my favorite thing to do, and it'll be your favorite thing to do.
Starting point is 00:43:36 I'm telling you, just do it because the hat-trick jackpot is there for the taking. It's sitting there. If you download the BetM-G-M-G-M-G-M-G-R-S when you sign up, if your first bet loses, you can get up to 1,500 in bonus bets back. Then you can go, I'm going to bet on any-time goal score. And if they score, you've won your bet. If they score three or more, then you're entered into the Hat-Trick Jackpot where you get your share of 10-Gs in bonus bets.
Starting point is 00:44:01 If your guy gets a haddy, you get your share of 10-Gs in bonus bets. That is incredible. Just pick a guy who's scorching hot, who you think's going to score anyway. You're already picking him for any time goal scored. If he pops that hat-trick jackpot is activated, and you get your share of 10 Gs and bonus bets by using the BetMGM app and that promo code netters.
Starting point is 00:44:18 What are you waiting for? We are back and we are going to jump into the state of New York for a couple of topics here before we get into a happy one about a young stud. We just mentioned them. What are we doing with Buffalo? we need to um we need to
Starting point is 00:44:41 you've often said that you wish relegation was in pro-American sports and I'm that just with the constructure it just simply cannot be you can't like send a team to the age of yeah but the Buffalo Sabres need to be
Starting point is 00:44:58 I don't punish is too harsh but there's just something needs to happen seismically. Like, I almost think they need to be moved. The team needs to be moved. Send them to Arizona. Dude.
Starting point is 00:45:10 So, I, it's, it's, you know, you, you want to, we talk about protect our goalies. Yeah. Protect our coaches. Yeah. What about respect our owners?
Starting point is 00:45:24 Okay. Well, do we, do we need to have respect for owners? Because there are a lot of people who get mad at owners. It's usually justifiably. I, trying to make a buck.
Starting point is 00:45:34 I, I think the way the peculas have financially supported Penn State Hawk, we've talked about this before. And then it does feel like the Buffalo Sabres specifically do not get that. And how long ago was it where we were talking about how do we not take the Bills vibes and give them to the Sabres too? You guys are right next to each. Did you see that Bills thing with the Leafs?
Starting point is 00:46:03 I don't know. There was flyers on, it must have been in Toronto, but maybe it was in Buffalo. Uh-huh. There were flyers from bills fans that were to address to lease fans asking them to stop rooting for the bills. Because they were like, you're, get, just to stop. You're giving it to us, you guys, the fucking Blue Jays, lost, and the Leafs suck. Yeah. And you're rooting for the bills.
Starting point is 00:46:26 And now you're making us. Yeah, you're hurting us. Yeah. Now we'll lose into the fucking dolphins. That's so funny. And I was like, yeah, good point. That's so. Yeah, it's funny and it's correct.
Starting point is 00:46:38 The sabers are just like... Actually, I just cracked it, Dan. Okay, well, I can't wait to hear it. Sabers and Leifes switch cities. No, fresh start for both. I hate this idea. Fresh start for both. Leafs fans get out of the Toronto.
Starting point is 00:46:53 Leif's players are like, oh, Toronto's too much. We go to Buffalo where nobody knows your name. Buffalo gets a little spotlight where they've been unwatched and unappreciated. and they go, boom. I actually think this would, I think they'd both make playoffs. I literally switch race. I don't know if I even want to entertain that.
Starting point is 00:47:14 They're like 10 minutes away. Oh, no, again, I understand like geographically. I get it. Boom. I get it. But I don't love that idea. Switch rings. I don't want to insult you,
Starting point is 00:47:25 but I think that's a bad idea. We are in last place here in the Atlantic again. They are under 500. and it felt like just yesterday when Tage and Tuck were on the pod having a blast, talking about their love for the Buffalo Sabres fans and how they think that this is the time, that things are going to change. And now I'm just looking at J.J. Patyrka on Utah, playing amazingly. And I'm a little bit like when I look at this team and I think Tate
Starting point is 00:48:03 is doing well but at the end of the day Tage has I think it's 16 points in how many has he played 19 20 games The the I don't see an out 20 2008 Missed playoffs 2009 miss playoffs 10 Lost in the first round 11 lost in the first round 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 miss playoffs
Starting point is 00:48:30 About to be missed playoffs again finished dead last Yeah correct And I'm like, this is not sustainable. It's not. And when they sign Byram, I was like, nice. You're like, you're not going to lose Byram. And, you know, you've got... Who have they been drafting?
Starting point is 00:48:49 Chris, I'm asking. I'm dead ass. Like, aren't they in last every year? Like, who, why aren't they, why don't they have the first pick every year? Who are they drafting? They have good, they have got, I mean, like, Zach Benson is a great young player. Krebs is a good young player I just don't get it here man
Starting point is 00:49:08 I don't get it but you're right they don't Zucker is her this is what everyone always screams about Josh Norris hurt absolute nightmare Yeah Zucker hurt You've got Dahlene who has been taking leaves obviously dealing with family stuff And that is very serious We wish him all the best
Starting point is 00:49:26 But I am so fucking confused by this team And I genuinely don't know what they're playing is. Yeah. Here's... Because you are staring down the barrel of trading Tage Thompson and could you imagine? Oh, dude. That might break them. If you trade Tage Thompson, if you trade Rasmus Dahlene, if you trade, you know, even like an Owen power. And it's just like these are your guys. Just like fucking Akposo, just like Jack, just like Peturca, like all of these players. Just, just. All of these players. Just like Reinhard, like all these guys that you just let leave because you can't figure it out.
Starting point is 00:50:08 It's like how many times are we going to keep doing this over and over again? It's like purgatory like nothing I've ever seen. Yeah. Dude, it's actually insane of looking at their picks. It's like, you go back. They go, we have the second overall pick, Sam Reiner. Gone. Winning Cups.
Starting point is 00:50:28 Next year we have the second overall pick, Jack Eagel, gone, winning cups. Then you have the eighth overall pick, Alexander Neelie. under, gone. Then you have the eighth overall pick again, Casey Middlestat. Gone. Gone. Then you have first overall pick. Dahlene, great. Then you have Dylan Cousins. Gone. Gone. Jack Quinn, eighth. Owen Power first. Maddie Savoy.
Starting point is 00:50:48 Sorry, hockey reference is freezing. But then we're into the, you know, the current, oh, then Zach Benson, and then you're into guys who, you know, are trying to crack NHL or rosters and it will happen. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But they don't pick they don't have these guys Dahlene and I'll give you power honestly I think
Starting point is 00:51:08 But other than that I'm like Power's good you want a guy though What I mean by a guy is like I fucking I want a Mac I want badard I want you know what I mean like And the ones that they did get are on other teams They all play for other teams That sucks big time and what's crazy is
Starting point is 00:51:25 They don't have like you would think They have all this cap space but they don't really. I mean, God, it's got to be extremely frustrating as a fan. Like, you kind of have to, as an ownership group, as a GM, you kind of have to start, go,
Starting point is 00:51:41 we need to make, this is like mass. This is what I'm saying. It's like, you know, we don't want to sewer anybody, but the reason I brought it up is because I was like, I don't know what you are doing.
Starting point is 00:51:52 Yeah. If you were a fan of the Buffalo Sabres. Like, I'm looking at this team and I'm going, I see no way, way out. There is no light at the end of the tongue. You are in a black abyss.
Starting point is 00:52:04 Dementers everywhere. Kellogg's. All I smell is Kelly. All I smell is fucking cereal. And it's pitch black out here. There is no table that I'm being thrown through. They love boozing. You booze up there.
Starting point is 00:52:17 I know. And they're the best. They are the best people. I want them to have fun. Where there is light at the end of the time. And where there is fun. He's on Long Island. Man.
Starting point is 00:52:26 I only wanted to bring this up because Matthew Schaefer had an OT winner versus the mammoth on Friday. He was 18 years and 70 days old, breaking Sidney Crosby's record of youngest player to ever score an O.T. winner, Crosby was 18 years and 101 days old. Suck it Crosby. Just kidding, I love you. Schaefer, I guess I have two things to say.
Starting point is 00:52:53 One, he, the Islanders for a long time on this show and many shows have been chirped for being boring. And I've gone as far as to say on the air, I root for them to not make playoffs. Because it's just, I would so much rather the last couple years, it's like the wings, give the wings a chance. Even give Sid last year.
Starting point is 00:53:13 Remember they were surging and almost made it? I'm like, give Sid a chance to take, or maybe that was two years ago, but it was like, it was going to be Crosby, New York. Yeah. And I was like, the Rangers are having this incredible year. The last thing they want to see is Sidney Crosby in a seven game series.
Starting point is 00:53:24 And the islanders always, they get in, and then they lose in the first round uncompetitively. like, thanks. Yeah. Really appreciate it. So I've said that many times where I didn't want them to get in because they're not fun. This team is fun.
Starting point is 00:53:38 When I am watching hockey and I go home and I put on ESPN to see what's available in my market and the Islanders are on, I pop that baby on, no fucking hesitation. And that is sick. They are a freaking blast. The combo of Sorokin and Riddick and net has been great. Bo Horvatt is buzzing. 23 points. Barzell, as we've said,
Starting point is 00:54:04 like Barzal needs to be good. Barzal is good. Schaefer is tied for second on the team points. Emil Heinemann has nine goals. Like this team is, they're totally different, dude? They're totally different.
Starting point is 00:54:15 Do you just say it's 12th and goals for in the league? I did not say that. Pumping goals, it's amazing. Barzies looking like he's having fun. We see him when Shafe scored that OT goal. Yeah, like Shafe's going crazy, but watch it again, watch it out again. Barzies like, go on.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Oh, yeah. Dude, they're having a, a blast. I think, and it's like, listen, I don't want to, I don't want to kill Lou, but like, you bring in Darsh and that things feel different. Yep. Things feel real different. And we gave, we gave Schaefer the keys to the city, to the island.
Starting point is 00:54:46 Yeah, we did. And, and, buddy, does it look in good? Somebody get him some frozen pasta so he can put in his fridge so he can eat. Is there a title for, like, the lord of an island? Like, the islands have, like, What is it a king? Like there's got to be some cool name for someone who rules an island. I mean, I think on the Iron Islands, it's king.
Starting point is 00:55:10 Oh, yeah. We should do Iron Island stuff with them. Yeah. What's Dead May Never Die. What is Dead May Never Die if they're not doing that there. Look at this. Titles for an island ruler can include monarch, governor. I like, I like Commander.
Starting point is 00:55:25 Lord of Man? That's sick. Taste the Lord of Man. The Lord of Man. dude. Island commander is pretty sick though. What's Dead May Never Die? What is Dead May never die? Oh, Yarl is cool too, but, I mean, that's old Norse. Like, you're, yeah. And then this is the other thing I wanted to say, Sheaf, there are dudes in the conversation who were either drafted near him or were in the conversation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:49 Leading up to his draft about going one. Lisa went to, Higgins and Iserman were guys that were like, oh, these guys are going to go right there. Yeah. Um, the, or no, Isamon was the year before. Yes, Porter. Porter is what you might say. Yeah, Porter, thanks. But looking, and I think all those guys are going to be great. Like, I legitimately am like, all these guys are going to be, have an awesome NHL careers, I believe that so much. But based on the production right now, where Shafe is leading all rookies in points, not rookie defensemen,
Starting point is 00:56:20 exactly what we saw Lane do last year. It is actually crazy to think back to all that pre-draft media that was like, who knows who's going to go. go one and this draft isn't that good because there's no star. Yeah. And I'm like, Matthew Schaefer is a fucking, dude, he's like, is a superdova. And I literally cannot believe how you, it's hard evaluating prospects. No one's ever completely right or completely wrong. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:46 It's rare when someone goes, Cony Crosby, like these are can't, can't miss. That term is thrown around too much. Yeah. Can't miss prospects. Matthew Schaefer right now appears to be a literal can't miss prospect who was getting zero credit for being even a consensus one. It's crazy, man. And it's just the way that he's the way that he's talking to, it's like he scores that
Starting point is 00:57:08 OT1, I don't know if he's like, he's like Beacon, one of the guys. He's like, you like that? Like, he's just having fun. He's embracing the role. He's embracing the Lord of Man. He is the island commander and he loves it. And it's contagious. The vibes on the team under a new GM with this new kid coming in are very palpable.
Starting point is 00:57:27 And it's fucking sick. It's very sick to see. The last thing I want to talk about in Hot Ice is the global series concluded. Pred's penguins, wonderful time. All the boys raved about it, especially the Swedish guys. At one point during the Sunday game, I believe, there was Peter Forrestberg was there, legend. Legend. And they played a tribute video of him.
Starting point is 00:57:50 And it's, you know, watch any Forrestberg mixtape on YouTube and have the best night of your life after that. and Crosby and Forsberg traded sticks in a cool ceremony and first of all the stick he got was like one of the old Eastons which was gas I was like that's awesome but it made me think in the way
Starting point is 00:58:15 and this is normally you know you can expect some CP bullshit right here but I'm being actually dead ass right now in the way that European soccer players trade jerseys after games, I think it would be so sick if NHL guys swap sticks. Because it's like, you know, I'm not going to give the dude your jersey after the NHL game. It's like, whatever, they keep those.
Starting point is 00:58:36 But if there was a sick, because we can, some guys go through a stick a game. Who gives a fuck? You wouldn't have to do it every game either. I don't know guys are superstitious and maybe want it. But I think that would be incredible. If you finish your career and you had a collection of like, oh, this was Crosby stick that we played in Sweden. This was a larkin stick. We played him in playoffs, whatever.
Starting point is 00:58:52 That feels like a totally doable thing and would be amazing. I completely agree. That would be awesome. I would be doing that all the time too. And it's not like everybody, watch soccer. It's not like everybody's swapping jerseys. It's like, Ronaldo and Messi trade jerseys because you're like, that's dope. Like, Ovi and Sid trading sticks in one of their last games, I'd be like, oh.
Starting point is 00:59:09 It would be sick, but also why not swap jerseys? I think they don't have enough jerseys? Well, they do, but I imagine the, I imagine teams would get more mad about the jersey than the stick. Financially. Maybe not, actually. I don't think so, dude. I think jerseys are like $225 and sticks are like 400 bills. Okay.
Starting point is 00:59:30 Harder to display all the jerseys though. Now I've got 20 jerseys. That's a great question. Like where do you think, like where do you think messy keeps all the jerseys he has? You know when you used to go see like posters in the stores and they were like kind of a big book thing? Just have that weird jerseys frame. The blast from the past that that just gave me is like a book. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:52 I was thinking like when you go to a laundromat and they, you know, they like press that. button and it's on like a thingy. Yeah, that would be great. That wouldn't that be funny? Renaldo Chivians League, I don't know. I bet these NHL legends must have a game room or a, for sure. You know, a basement that they could line the walls with all the jerseys. Do they just leave work at home?
Starting point is 01:00:16 Yeah, yeah, right. I don't talk about that. I think I would, I would want a jersey swap. You'd want the jersey more. Yeah. I mean, you can't really do it in hockey. It's a weird. That would be a weird move.
Starting point is 01:00:27 if they did it. You couldn't do it on the ice is what I'm saying. Yeah, right. Teams lose and they get the fuck off the ice. I think I would want to stick. I think I would just be like, that's so dope.
Starting point is 01:00:38 I do wonder this, while I love this in soccer, I do think hockey is a little too competitive where like if I saw guys yucking it up, chumming around with each other after a loss and like swapping sticks, I'd be like, get in the fucking locker room and get your shit together.
Starting point is 01:00:52 Did you hate, I know you've seen this clip because where Brady stands. Did you hate that clip of Big Ben? Rothelsberger when he was like, hey, I never do this, but. No, I loved it. But he did it before the game, which I like. And I'm sure they meet in the tunnel somewhere. So that's what I'm saying, like, during warmies, guys like cruise in the red line, kind of
Starting point is 01:01:11 like Cated Biden is like, yo, think maybe I could get your jersey after the game. I do think that the jersey makes more sense as a trophy because it says the player's name on the back. But the sticks usually do too. Yeah, but Sean's right. Fuck you. He's going to talk to me more than you, bitch. No, it's sure.
Starting point is 01:01:28 I'm telling you, it's like, the jersey is sick. Like, I want that. The jersey is extremely sick. Oh, 100%. I want it. I want it. I just think it'd be cool if you want that. I think guys do it.
Starting point is 01:01:36 I think they do it in the way Big Ben did it with Tom. It's not like a thing every game, but he was like, hey, can this one exception? Can I have your jersey? You know what? Now that I'm thinking about this, as much as I love it in European football, it is kind of ass. Like you lose to a team and then you're like chumming around with a guy on the other team on the pitch. I hate how they do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:54 It happens way too much. Agree. I agree. And I don't give it, like, miss me with the like, oh, well, they're international team. I don't care. Yeah. Get out, get off the field. Why have I liked this for so long?
Starting point is 01:02:05 It's so late. You're going to be swapping sticks. Yeah. In the locker amount. Great. In the locker. All right. Let's take a quick break and then jump in two.
Starting point is 01:02:12 Now just college buck drop. Babes, so excited to talk to you about the new best sponsor of the pod. Surfside. Surfside is, without a doubt, my favorite, ready-to-drink cocktail. you have ever seen. You're seeing it all over the place. I got it right here. It's fantastic. Surfside is delivering you canned ice teas and lemonade made with real delicious vodka. All of them are 100 calories, two grams of sugar, and here's the best part. No bubbles ever. No bubbles, no troubles, folks. This is not a seltzer. It's a surfside. I am telling you right now,
Starting point is 01:02:47 the reason that you have found yourself with fatigue with all of these other canned drinks that you've seen for years is because those bubbles, that terrible carbonation, and frankly, not the great flavors. They're giving you heartburn. They're making you feel bloated. You don't want it. You don't like it. That's why you need to start drinking surfside. It is truly the best canned cocktail I have ever had in my life. I swear to God. It is the only thing that I drink. When I go into a bar and I see a surfside sitting there in the cooler waiting for me, calling my name, I just light up. I light up like a Christmas tree because tis the season. It is truly the best drink with the best flavors. Listen to some of these. They got the OG, the iced tea and vodka. It's my favorite. I'm a
Starting point is 01:03:26 classic man for sure. But they got the half and half. A little Arnie Pommi, Arnie Pommi alert. Wee, wee, wee, they got the raspberry tea, peach tea, green tea, mango green tea, peach green tea, lemonade and vodka. Don't forget the lemonade. They got a black cherry lemonade, a strawberry lemon. It's unbelievable. The list goes on and on. And you're asking yourself, where can I drink these? Where would I enjoy a surfside? The answer is literally anywhere. If you're trying to elevate your tailgate pop that cooler full of surfside every single time. If you're at the bar watching the games, get a surfside. They go down smooth. They taste delicious. But we're getting into the winter seasons. We're going to start hitting the slopes. If you don't think that I'm
Starting point is 01:04:04 packing my bag full of surfside on the chairlift and having a chairlift pop and now it's surfside, and if you don't think also that when you're up there on the lift, up on the mountains, that elevation, that's going to make carbonation go out of control. How do you get rid of that issue? Bang! You're drinking surfside. If you're skiing, if you're golfing, I was hitting the golf sim this weekend because it was raining here in L.A. Couldn't get out on the course. So I went to the simulator place. Boom. They had surf sides. I was buzzing the whole time. So golfing, skiing, watching the game doesn't matter. You got to enjoy a surf side. They're a partner of so many NHL teams. So Colorado Avalanche, best team in the league right now. If you're sitting there at ball having a blast, make sure to get a surf side while you're sitting in the stands watching Nathan McKinnon and Kale McCar do there. Bang! It is an absolute no-brainer at your local bar restaurant or liquor store. Check where they have some surfsides. Get hooked up.
Starting point is 01:04:58 Enjoy them. It is the only way to go. And remember with Surfside, you must be 21 years or older to enjoy responsibly. It's always the key. We are back and it is time for Netters College Puck Drop, getting into the college hockey talk rounding up the weekend. And I thought I was going to have a sweep C.P. Michigan. I know you did.
Starting point is 01:05:19 I know you did. Our games of the week, we had Michigan. Penn State, unbelievable tilt weekend, and Michigan wiped the floor with the Penn State nitty lines in that first game. And don't forget, Penn State went to Michigan State in a top, what a brutal stretch. But they went to Michigan State the weekend before and got popped twice. And then they're coming home playing Michigan, and you're like, you've got to write the ship at home. And then getting dog walked, 7-1 on Friday night. The boys were fucking reeling around.
Starting point is 01:05:50 When it was a 7-1 victory, I was like, oh, this is a sweep. No question. Yep. No question. And frankly, dude, it brought up the questions yet again. Is Penn State legit? What's the deal with this team? Yep.
Starting point is 01:06:01 And they are legit because they got them back. They were up all game. Had a 3-1 lead on Saturday at one point. Michigan eventually brought it back, got it to 4-2. It was three, they were up 3-0. Yeah, yeah. And then it got a kind of dicey 3-2, but the empty netter, they all count. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:17 Sealed the deal. Gavin McKenna won assist all weekend and it was on the empty netter which again they all count who cares points to points but we were just talking who was it the three eyes guys we were just talking to somebody who is like Gavin McKenna is incredible they had the chance to see him play he is he's incredible
Starting point is 01:06:36 but he hasn't asserted himself enough yet and I haven't you know it's frustratingly hard to watch college hockey out here a lot of the time so I haven't got to see him play enough, certainly not in person. But I kind of from a far off vantage point, I kind of like that assessment. Because I know the skills there and I'm like, man,
Starting point is 01:06:58 do something. Yeah. Beat Michigan. Like I want that game from him where it's like, yeah, I had a hat trick and we beat Michigan because of me. I'm waiting for the game, like you're saying. It's just like I know he has it in him. And I wonder when it's going to be.
Starting point is 01:07:17 Like I feel like it needs to be a big game like this. It needs to be a big opponent. opponent. But yeah, he hasn't had that Macklin-Selabrini game yet. He hasn't had that Will Smith game yet where it's like, oh shit, you look like the best player in college hockey right now and you're doing it against the best teams. Like you're getting your team a win. And are you worried? Yeah. No. I'm not
Starting point is 01:07:40 worried about them being competitive all year. I am worried about their NCAA success chances. Yeah. Because they went to the Frozen 4 for the first time program history last year. They signed Gavin McKenna, and I say sign literally. Yeah, yeah. And then it kind of made Frozen Four again the expectation. Yeah. And the way they've played so far, and we joked last week where it's like Penn State has been disappointing. And they're like, we're seven and one. Yeah. But the way they've played so far against some of the top teams has me worried about can you hang in the tournament. Tournament's a completely different beast. Maybe by then
Starting point is 01:08:16 they're a completely different team. A million things can happen. You were about to hear an incredible Cole Isman interview where he says the bean pot changed their season last year. It happens in February. So we're fine, but I think I'd be a little concerned that I'm like, oh, we aren't maybe, maybe we're like a half step down from some of the best teams in the country. Yeah, I think so too. It's, it's, what's frustrating is for me as a Michigan fan. Like I wanted them to, I said after the Wisconsin loss, they need, if they want to see keep up with Michigan State, they need to, unfortunately, beat the number three team twice. And they beat the fucking wheels off them in on Friday. And I was like, there we go. But as you see, often happen. It's so fucking weird. The second half of the back-to-back, they end up losing. And like you said, they were down, 3-0 for the majority.
Starting point is 01:09:03 And that allows Penn State to keep. They're going to have a top-five ranking still. Yeah. But weirdly enough, I'm like, I don't think you deserve that. And I'm waiting for Penn State to have a big-time two-and-o weekend against a big-time competitor that makes them be like this. No, no, we do deserve that. So we'll see if we get that.
Starting point is 01:09:23 But this is almost a, I don't want to say lucky because I don't want to sound bitter like I'm rooting for Michigan. Yeah. But it does feel like a fortunate, at least. A fortunate result for them that's going to keep them with a high ranking, going to keep them in the conversation for top teams in the country. But I just continue, regardless of great players like Gavin, like J.J. Weebusch, they don't look like a program that I'm like, yeah, this is a title contending program. Like they're just, they're getting fucking pounded. by certain teens. And I'm like, no, dude, I don't buy it, guys.
Starting point is 01:09:54 So I have, I'm very, and again, the fact that we're even talking about Penn State in this light is like, that's so cool. But yeah, I just, I'm not sure I'm ready to be like, yeah, no, they are a contender. I agree. I agree with that assessment. Some other big ones that we had flagged. BU was at Quinnipiac on Saturday. It was just the one game, Cole Eisenman returned. Yes.
Starting point is 01:10:16 You will hear in the interview in a second. Yes. That is news for everyone right now. In this episode, Cole Iserman will be on the episode talking to us about BU hockey and everything else. He had said, we've had a little bit of a slow start to the season. We were trying to get some wins here. Quintipiac 1-6-2 never really looked back after 3-0-1st period. At Quinnipiac, tough game for BU, but certainly I think they wanted a little bit more.
Starting point is 01:10:41 Yeah, and I do think new people getting into college hockey, you need to understand like QU is nasty. Like they're a national championship winning program. They're number five in the country, and they are very fucking good. Yep. So, yeah. Michigan State stays hot. Really impressed with Notre Dame, though. Okay.
Starting point is 01:10:59 You know, 4-1 and 3-1 victories over the weekend. Three more goals for Porter. How are you? Fucking A. Little Netters bump for Porter, absolutely buzzed. But again, Michigan State, and you know this hurts me to say, they are the best team in the country. are very, very fucking good. And like, Tray looks so nasty in that everything about Michigan State
Starting point is 01:11:22 is buzzing on such a significant level. Notre Dame playing them to a four one and three one game. I was very impressed. I thought those were good results for Notre Dame. But those are also the type of results. Like you get a scrappy team that you're not really expecting to give you a fight and you still pull out the wins. That's why Michigan State is Michigan State. That, frankly, is the type with how well I felt Notre Dame was playing against them hate to say it, that's Michigan, Wisconsin last weekend.
Starting point is 01:11:51 Yeah. That's like a, if it's Michigan, you probably lose one of those games because that's how good Notre Dame was playing. Michigan State does not lose those games because they are so good. I think they're really helped by that UNH loss. I agree completely, dude. He's like, oh man these guys are going to lay in front of one-timers. Yes. Like blocking 50 shots a game, 100%.
Starting point is 01:12:08 Number four, Western Michigan had Miami, Ohio, beat him 5-262, take care of business. That's what matters. Yep. It absolutely huge. And then two awesome weekends coming up here. BC, number 18, they had a home and home with number 13 UMass. BC won 7-3 at home and 4-0 on the road. This is the best
Starting point is 01:12:28 a great weekend. It's the best BC has looked all year. No question about it. And you know what, dude? The Bruins boys, Laterno and Higgins are really clicking. Dean Laterno, after having a very, very tough first year at BC. He was hurt a lot of it. People weren't aware of that. But Dean Letterno is like a power forward on this team. He looks really, really good in his second year. But no doubt about it, that was the, that was the best weekend for
Starting point is 01:12:54 BC this college season so far. So BC fans, like, that's going to be a big jump in the rankings for sure. I might say something crazy. You love to see it. Yukon, Northeastern. We were gassing up northeastern. I know. And, uh, I mean, Yukon played great. Well, we've been saying they haven't had a complete weekend either. Every split, splits. Split, split, split. Yukon goes four, two, at home, four, three on the road. Yeah. They're both the huskies, right?
Starting point is 01:13:20 Yes, that's it. A little husky battle? A little husky battle. Yukon takes care of business. That is a fantastic weekend for Yukon. One, they actually kind of need it, even though they're a great team. I know, I completely agree. It's, you know, like they, because Yukon, right, they're in this number 11 ranking.
Starting point is 01:13:39 Like, Yukon is a great team. They're playing great against Kripiac, right? Right? Yeah. The other weekend. And Yukon is a team that wants to be in title talk. So taking, getting a two-oh. This, what a perfect, if I'm a betting man. I'm like, that's a one-in-one for sure. They'll both get a win. So to get two was great. The most depressing of the weekend for me, number six, Maine. I love Maine having that ranking. They beat the shit out of Vermont, 7-0. As they should. And then fucking lose two to one the next day. Save some of the goals, boys. Yeah, so, so dumb. UVM is a good program, but I'm sorry, if you're Maine, if you have that ranking, what do we always say? It was a low upset weekend Friday. I think there were zero, maybe one upset on Friday. But low upset weekend, you didn't expect to see anything, especially not this one, after 7-0 win.
Starting point is 01:14:32 You cannot lose to unranked teams, hockey east teams to, you know, like New England teams. Like, come on, Maine. What the fuck? So great win by UVM. If you're Maine though, you're kicking yourself in the ass on that one. It's just so unacceptable. Denver. Denver's back, bro.
Starting point is 01:14:51 Denver might be back. Number nine, Denver had a home and home win number 20, Colorado. Denver won 2-1-in-home. That's a tough in-state matchup, too. And we talked about Colorado College is a very, very slept-on, strong team. Denver, 2-1 at home, 3-2 on the road. Now they're putting wins together. They're on the streak.
Starting point is 01:15:09 They look very dangerous. just as dangerous as I thought they would be. Preseason just as dangerous as the preseason rankings thought they would be. Yep. North Dakota? Upsetting. Yep. Upsetting.
Starting point is 01:15:20 They beat Arizona State 5-2, but then lose 4-2 on Saturday. Another unranked team. Like, you're a top 10 team. Arizona State, good program. It's tricky because they were so high preseason. Yes, they were. Yeah. So, like, they're a good team.
Starting point is 01:15:33 Yeah. They're a good team. But again, North Dakota. Their record is horrible. Oh, yeah, yeah, absolutely. That was huge for, for, for, for no DAC or excuse me for Arizona State and for no DAC this is just like it's so disheartening so so disheartening and then I hate it I hate to say it because my god has it been fun
Starting point is 01:15:55 watching Duluth fucking surging yeah but you said it best they got heat check finally finally got heat checked they beat Omaha 5-2 on Friday and then got blanked on a Saturday lost to nothing um the plant broths continue to buzz Leave the nation in points. Yeah, it's unbelievable. So sick. Can you imagine how fun that would be? Like, Jesus Christ, it's like genuine, like Max and Zam just fucking lighting up the nation while
Starting point is 01:16:23 Duluth continues to climb the ranks. Do you think that's going to be hit for them? You think they're going to drop significantly? Omaha, good team. But again, unranking. We're about to get into our rankings. I bet I still have them top ten. I don't even know yet, but I bet I do.
Starting point is 01:16:36 But yeah, they'll drop a little bit. Like, you got to beat Omaha. And then last ones that we wanted to talk about, Wisconsin kind of got pumped. Yeah, Ohio State. But again, that's a good program in Ohio State. One Saturday, but survived. They win convincingly. My big one, CP, my fraud watch, I think we've done this to teams and I want to start
Starting point is 01:16:59 doing it more. Dude, Minnesota is having a fucking go of it. And you got fucking waxed. by L.I.U. Yeah. Long Island. First of all, awesome. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:13 And we need more tri-state area hockey programs. So Long Island being in the mixer here, beating up on programs like fucking Minnesota is unbelievable. But my God, the way Minnesota had these, this, you know, preseason rankings, these teams everyone, one of the teams everyone was talking about. And then you're just getting beat to high heaven by LSU. They are five, eight and one. on the year and here are their next games buddy pen state pen state denver ohio state ohio bimidgey pen state penn state penn state michigan michigan michigan state michigan state oh you're dead you're dead your season's over their season might be over uh okay so let's do
Starting point is 01:17:57 our new ranking because they're not out yet yes michigan state one michigan state one discussion yes michigan i believe two me too okay good tough on them michigan too and it's discussion. Three, I think there's only two teams up for question here and I have my answer. I think I do too. I was talking with Booch and I agree on this. I think you might be saying the same thing because I know how high you are on this program. I think it's Denver. Me too. I think Denver is three. I think it's a very deserved jump for Denver and I think they absolutely have to be over Penn State at this point. Like I just cannot. I cannot give Penn State 3 again.
Starting point is 01:18:41 I'm not even sure I can give Penn State 4. You agree. Okay. Because Western Michigan was 4 and beat Miami, Ohio twice. Yep. I'm not going to punish them. I don't think Western Michigan is that good, though. But they shouldn't be punished.
Starting point is 01:19:00 These are weekly reactionary rankings. I know, but they're our rankings. Like, I don't know. Like, you're telling me, even with the lost Omaha, You don't think Duluth is better than that team? Duluth needs to be punished for losing to all. You, I don't like these rankings. I want us to do who we think of the best teams in the country.
Starting point is 01:19:23 Okay, well, that is tricky because I think North Dakota is nasty too, but they also lost, and I think they should be punished for that. All right, why don't we go, so what do you want here? You want Duluth for? I think I want Duluth for. I would go Duluth. Penn State. No.
Starting point is 01:19:41 Actually, they did win one game. Okay, fine. Duluth Penn State, four or five. You're giving me that? Yeah. Wow, okay. Western Michigan. Six.
Starting point is 01:19:50 No DAC 7? No DAC 7. Okay. I think we have to go QU in here. Actually, you're right. Like, I would go. QU 8, but then I would go, but you know who's in my rankings? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:07 Yukon is in the top 10. Oh, yeah, yeah. I agree. What about Wisconsin? They're out. They look tough. His Maine out? Yep.
Starting point is 01:20:15 Fuck. And northeastern, I don't think can be in. What about Cornell? What about B.C. Oh, I think that's too high for B.C. Just now. You want to give him a 10? I want to give B.C. 10.
Starting point is 01:20:28 I want to go QU8. Okay. UConn 9. UConn 9. B.C. 10. Wow, we're going to let B.C. jump that high. Yep. Hey, that was a huge weekend.
Starting point is 01:20:39 That's a great weekend. I like it. BC 10. Okay. B.C. 10. Okay. Thank you. And now let's get into our game of the weekend heading up here.
Starting point is 01:20:52 You're feeling hockey east vibes. I think so. Listen, it's Michigan, Ohio State. No, listen, I am the Michigan boy. We can't do Michigan yet again. Listen, Michigan, Ohio State's going to be great. It's going to be an amazing rivalry. But no, we're not doing it.
Starting point is 01:21:07 B.U. Northeastern is going to be a great matchup too. But we are going Maine at BC two games Friday, Saturday. Saturday, Chestnut Hill, all-time legacy hockey East matchup. Classic. Really great teams. This is classic college hockey. You just heard our rankings. Maine will probably actually be in the top ten of the real rankings.
Starting point is 01:21:27 Yeah. BC would probably be just out. But this is going to be something like, if I had to guess, this is going to be something like 10.15. 10. Yeah, yeah. Something like that. Great, great tilt.
Starting point is 01:21:36 It's going to be a top 20 matchup, which Michigan, Ohio State will be too. But Maine, BC is classic college hockey. like you said, in Chestnut Hill, two hockey East teams, two top 20 teams. This is going to be fun stuff to watch. We'll probably be able to get this on ESPN. I was thinking that too. So everyone will be able to watch it. I know the Big Ten Network has been tough for some people to watch.
Starting point is 01:21:58 That's going to be what Michigan, Ohio State is dealing with. But guys, Maine, B.C., if you're getting into college hockey like we have been recently, this is a really, really fun one to do. So strap in, let's enjoy. It's going to be a fucking blast. That, yeah. is going to be it for Netters College Puck drop this week. Make sure you are getting dialed into all the college action

All right, well, we are joined by a Newbury-P-R-L-RATL-L-RAT. A-U-S-L-L-RATL-L-RFF, a current star of the BU Terriers and a coffee aficionado. Cole Eisenman.
Starting point is 01:26:46 Welcome to the Empty Netters podcast. Thank you. Thank you. That was a pretty good introduction. I mean, dude, the beauty is you've earned all of it, especially the coffee part. I can't wait to get into that. Yeah, you'll like it, I think. Oh, I can't wait, dude.
Starting point is 01:27:03 I can't wait. You'll like it. Dude, I wanted to joke with you that the only question we have for this entire interview is, what does it feel like to be just a goal score and not a two 100 foot player and how are you going to address that moving four dude i we do so much research obviously the amount of fucking times i've watched you answer that question i was like absolutely nausea yeah it's i got it all i got it all in my head i know i know how to answer that one like the whole draft here i probably answered it a thousand times bro and it's i'm like watching shit on on two x speeds i can
Starting point is 01:27:34 absorb everything you've ever said to try to find something funny to ask you and it's just like i'm hearing you in like the chipmunks voice just like saying this oh yeah the same thing i literally want a same reporter i'm like yo dude he passes the puck all the fucking i think i think we got to adopt the uh russle westbrook mentality now when people ask you that you just got to tell them to fuck themselves it's gonna be perfect i i wish i my dad would kill me yeah correct correct especially pre draft pre draft no chance yeah oh yeah yeah yeah oh yeah pre drafts you gotta be a robot yeah okay well we are all we are all right also some prep school guys.
Starting point is 01:28:09 So that's where I actually did want to start at Shattuck, dude. You're there for a few years and you're on that, that U-18 team in 20, 2020, with Mac, I think. And that's the year when you go in 50 games, you score 97 goals. Oh, yes. Yeah. But you're absolutely insane. We still like, all the guys, it's like kind of funny because I used to trip guys for
Starting point is 01:28:30 like being older and always talking about their younger teams. But I still talk about my U-14 team like all the time. I think it's the greatest U-14 team ever. it might be it legitimately might be if you look at that roster it's insane how many draft picks are
Starting point is 01:28:44 for a U-14 hockey team like actually crazy it blows my mind and dude if you go back if you're on it's either like elite prospects or DB I can't remember which one I was looking on
Starting point is 01:28:54 but it has if you click on that year and look at the roster of all you guys obviously has your stats but it puts the team the NHL logo yeah the next to a guy yeah and dude
Starting point is 01:29:02 the whole fucking roster it's crazy so dude dude cool I was going to say there are so many of these teams. Like you talk to guys like you who are, you know, big high NHL prospects, picks and this and that.
Starting point is 01:29:15 And sometimes you talk about those youth teams. And every now and then you've got one or two guys who are pros and people are like, oh, how good was so and so. And I feel like so often you hear those stories. People are like, well, dude, you know what? It was actually this random kid who was nasty and like you would have never heard of them. And your team, it's like, oh, no, literally every single one of them is in the league or about to be in the league.
Starting point is 01:29:35 It's insane. Like I'll ask guys be like, what was your team up to? They're not playing anymore. They're all done. They have jobs right now. They're at the University of Alabama. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:49 They're fucking Pollyside major. Yeah. Some loser getting an education somewhere. What a bum. Yeah. Wow. That's fucking awesome. But dude, like I said, 97 goals is a 15 year old.
Starting point is 01:30:01 I think it's only Crosby and Taze that ever scored more goals as a 15 year old on that team. And it's probably hard to remember and we're kids, your kid back then. But were you, when that's happening and you have 97 goals, were you like, I am so fucking nasty. I'm definitely going pro. Like, was that thought going through your mind when you were just fucking dumb. It was so, those games were so fun. It was like COVID.
Starting point is 01:30:24 So like there was like no one in the stand. So it was just like the boys just having fun playing hockey. And it was just unbelievable. It's so, I was playing with Macklin every night. And it's like, you're 14. The kid is just as, it's like he's just as good as he is now. It's crazy how good he was. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:42 So was it mostly just kind of one of those vibes where it's like, like Chris asks, like were you thinking about going pro? Or was that still kind of that beautiful era where truly the only thing on your mind was just having fun and playing hockey with your boys? I think, like even, I think that kind of stuff. Like my whole life I've always like, I'm going, I want to play in the NHL and like, that's it. So like I think I've had that mindset even since I was playing for like the Middlesex Islanders
Starting point is 01:31:05 when I was like eight. This is what I want to do. Like, I just want to go out there, play hockey, be with the guys. That's like, it's all I want to do. So probably started younger. Yeah. It's pretty special to be having that middle sex Islander shirt on and then being like, and I'll play for the Islanders in 10 years.
Starting point is 01:31:21 Yeah, that was weird. That was weird. Well, man, it's, you know, we're talking about Shattuck, what an unbelievable experience that is. But then you obviously go over to the development program, which has become such a massive gateway for so many great players. So many people have done that before in their career. Was that a decision for you? And obviously we'll get into, like we mentioned at the top, the insane accolades you have of that time. But was that a hard choice to go there?
Starting point is 01:31:45 Or was that kind of always the path? How did that process work? Yeah, that was for me. That was always the path. My brother played there. So, like, I always thought that was, like, the coolest thing when I was growing up. And then that 01 team hit. And it seemed like all the kids from whenever I was in, like, eighth grade or something when the 01s were there.
Starting point is 01:32:06 It was, this is, if you make it, you're going here. And it was kind of like the cool thing to kind of make that team. So it was, it was a no-brainer. I think I signed it in like a second. Yeah, God, that's all. And dude, just the, I think I saw you say this, but just the chance to put on that sweater every day, right? Like, it's obviously a dream when we'll get into your international play at our juniors and 18s. But the, you know, like, you're just soon enough for practice. Every game, you're just getting to drape on the USA jersey. That must have been felt so epic. Yeah, it was awesome. And even now, you can. Like you always hear like it's you never know when the next time is.
Starting point is 01:32:40 It's pretty crazy. Like obviously I get to wear the BU jersey and stuff like that. But whenever you get to throw in the USA one and whenever it is, it's so special and it really never gets old. Yeah. You mentioned your brother a second ago. Your family is so tied into the hockey world. Your dad obviously played at UMass. Lowell.
Starting point is 01:33:01 You had a, I think it's an uncle who got drafted by the Preds. And then your older brother got drafted by the. sends tell everyone about your siblings because there's a 10 year gap between your brother getting drafted and you getting drafted like what's going on yeah that that's my parents you know yeah yeah we'll get them on uh yeah it's it's like it's crazy yeah i always tell everyone i had three uh three three or three extra dads it felt like growing up um they so i was i was younger i have a twin so we were playing hockey and they were already in juniors when i like kind of realized what like who they were like they're my older brothers blah blah blah I was like so I was
Starting point is 01:33:41 got used to them playing the junior hockey I thought it was the sickest thing like blah blah blah home for Christmas was awesome I always get fired up for that but they were always always always playing hockey watching them online all the time that's where kind of I fell in love with it always just kind of no matter what watching hockey and then they went to college and played hockey there as well and then they was just so it was just it was just super cool to kind of be a young guy watching your older brothers kind of do the thing and now they're all kind of doing their own thing now. So yeah. How tough on you were they playing mini sticks?
Starting point is 01:34:14 You know, down in the big. The thing is that they were, they were so much older, they couldn't even beat up on me. Yeah, yeah. Their adults would be child abuse. Yeah. Like, yeah, they were like, it was almost like they were just, like, I always just saw them. They never really beat up on me. They were more to just like teach me life lessons when I was like eight.
Starting point is 01:34:33 And I'm like, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Just listen. Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, I'll do. So basically one of those. What an unreal legion of, you know, adults in leadership and guidance that he got to grow up with. That's so amazing. And sometimes it drives you, obviously, you know, in a non-cheasy way where you're like, sick, I want that so badly.
Starting point is 01:34:51 So I'm going to focus on this too. It's awesome. Yeah, very much. Dude, we talked about the dominance at the dev program that you had. It was 127 goals and 119 games. breaking Cole Coughfield's record of 126. Be honest, how aware of that record were you when you were getting close to it? I was, it was, I was hearing conversation about it the summer of my 18s here.
Starting point is 01:35:19 Oh, my dog. Yeah, okay. So they were like, oh, you need to get like this many goals, like if you want to break it. And I was like, I haven't even played a game yet to think about whatever it was, like over 50 goals. I'm like, if I get one, I'm going to be selling. So it just, let's like, it's calm down a bit. but then as time went on, blah, blah, then we get into men's,
Starting point is 01:35:38 or our, like, U-18 worlds, and the reporters there, that's all they were really asking. I was like, like, do you know how close you are, blah, blah, blah. And I think, because obviously, I wasn't, I didn't get it until the last game of the year.
Starting point is 01:35:51 So, like, for, it was just, and it was one more. Like, it's so iconic. Yeah, it was, it was like every single day there. I was asked about it. Yeah. Dude, you hear that a lot about, um,
Starting point is 01:36:03 even the OV Chase, right? Like when you get that close to a milestone, it's like, it's almost more stressful in pressure because it's like, okay, dude, I'm just, it's scoring one goal, but it feels like the weight of the world on you just to get on. Yeah, it's like, you're trying to win a championship and then you're hearing all this. And it's just like, it was a lot. It was a lot. It was a lot. Yeah. It was a lot. But it was obviously it's fun. It's what you kind of want. So for sure. Going into that last game, where you like, I got a fucking score here. Well, I was just like, I was more relieved that I could play hockey the next day after I tied it.
Starting point is 01:36:34 Yeah, right. True. True. It's such a good point. Like I tied in. Like, people were like, obviously, they got, they grabbed the puck and everything and like all my teammates are so happy for me. Because they, we were like, I think we were up like a few goals and it was like a power play. And that one team. Yeah. Yeah. We're giving you the puck. And then in the final, I just kind of just played hockey, which was nice. And then Huddy did his thing. And it was. It's off. Yeah, he helped me out there. God, that's so big. Beautiful. Beautiful. Love it. It's also so funny that it's like you're the joke, the question I joked about at the beginning, but it's like it's such a double-edged sword where everyone wants you to score and break the record while they're also being like, you score too much. You ever do anything else and you're like, oh yeah, yeah. It's, it's the world we live in. Yeah. It's, it's the world we live in. Okay, so to go to some international stuff. We want to talk about World Juniors. You obviously got to go on the jersey every day and you'd already had success in 18s, but you get on that stacked world. junior team and going for back to back for the first time ever, right? And it's a sick tournament. You guys are wagging, clipped by Finland in the group stage. And then you get back in the Finland again in the final. You have a sick goal in the semis. And then Finland, you go down so
Starting point is 01:37:47 bit, you know, go down two goals in the final, come all the way back. First question, just what do you remember about that championship game? Like, what was the, what were the emotions like? Were you ever in doubt? I know you're going to say no, but were you ever like, fuck, fuck. Yeah. Like, how were you feeling in that moment? I, so, so we, so I would, I played up my 17s year, play with them in Switzerland for their U-A teens and we won it then. Yeah. And we also came back then.
Starting point is 01:38:13 So it was like deja vu. It was like, yeah, we're in the locker room. And when I look over and see Bouillon, Leonard and Perrault, the guys that said next to me, I was like, I was just sat there. I was like, yeah, we're good. Like, it's just like. Yeah, I already did this, dude. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:26 They already, they already did this. They won last year. It's like you're playing with, it's, I felt like you're playing with. It felt like you were playing with veterans in just like this situation. I couldn't have been more confident. The guys were we were laughing in the locker. I'm like, let's go. We just start playing hockey.
Starting point is 01:38:38 And then guys just did their thing. And it was unbelievable. Dude, it's funny that you mentioned that. We actually talked to Gabe about it. And obviously, Leno was beacon, all tournament. And like embracing that villain role. Was it a cool, palpable feeling seeing that, you know, the U.S. World Juniors tournaments and these teams are kind of becoming a powerhouse and have this
Starting point is 01:39:00 I don't want to say cocky mentality, but this deserved and earned confidence. Could you feel that in the locker room? Yeah, definitely. I think it was a very hostile place. Like, every, we were playing Finland and they were cheering for Finland. Like, it was one of those. And we kind of love it. Like, we kind of just, like, as an American, like, you just so much pride and being
Starting point is 01:39:22 American and just like so much pride and just like having that like, this is ours. Like, we deserve this just as much as anyone. else and why not us kind of mentality and when you have guys like leno and gable who just have that swagger it's kind of easy to you know build off it so yeah yeah it's so great dude fires me and what's um what's the bonding like when you know you kind of jump in the room with those a couple bc boys and yeah yeah all good here yeah how did that go it makes it easier because you play with them before at the u.s team but so i think it was better because we didn't play them the first half of the year bc yet right dude
Starting point is 01:40:00 So we didn't play them yet. So it was just kind of just like a what's up kind of thing. Then you become teammates. And then the second half when we played him, it was like a battle. But it's like a kind of, it was like a risk. It was more like, oh, this is fun. Like you had to play like guys we just went to war with. But then it's like a new war.
Starting point is 01:40:17 So it was like it was like kind of like the perfect situation. It wasn't any bad blood before. And then there's no bad blood after. So it was like a kind of like a good mix. Dude, I actually love it. There's this maybe, uh, those are my most non old. head take. But you see in sports media all the time where even guys I love Tom Brady is like, I hate how everyone's friends now, you know, because you all grow up in these dev programs.
Starting point is 01:40:40 And I'm like, I don't know, it's kind of sick, actually. I think it's cool. You guys all dispersed throughout the league and love and respect each other, but still, you know, still trying to win championships. That's awesome. Yeah, I think the biggest part of that is like we obviously compete against each other just as hard as if we didn't like each other. But in some cases, like those guys, like really get each. like hockey players get hockey players and you know you're going to have the media on everybody but at the end of day those players have each other's backs you know just as much as their teammates so it's like kind of like they're just a respect thing and it makes games more meaningful but obviously we have
Starting point is 01:41:15 the respect for each other so it's true i do think it's one of the few sports where you can click in and out that easily like this is when we talked to sam ben about the the four nations fights and obviously he fought brady and not matthew but like him and matthew being being you know, best buds playing for Florida together. And we asked him if they talked about it. And he's like, no, we didn't talk about it once. Like it was like, we left Four Nations and we were back on the Panthers. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:39 I'm like, shit. Okay, that makes sense. So, like, I tell people stories about, like, they always ask like, how was Macklin as a roommate, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, me and Mac would go to the ring together, like, 5 a.m. The practice, then we would basically fight on the ice because we're competing against each other so hard. And then after, like, the fight, we'd get in the locker and be like, yo, you want to go to grab some lunch. something. You know, like, just like, it's just like, yeah, like someone gets, like, we had a bloody nose and I'm just wiping it off. Like, yeah, let's go grab like a burger or something.
Starting point is 01:42:08 You know, like one of those. It's great. It's so true. Yeah. Like, just beat the wheels off. Dude, we always joke. It's like people, people ask it. It's like, who is your biggest rivalry against growing up playing sports? And I'm always like him. Yeah. I fucking hate this guy. And it's just like, yeah, that's how it works. It's like, broken over a place. You battle. You got to tell you get better. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. That's great. What did you guys How did you guys celebrate after gold medal? What was the vibe like with the boys after? It was awesome.
Starting point is 01:42:35 We actually, so the locker room was great, blah, blah, blah. Then obviously you have your jerseys on, blah, blah, blah. Then we went back to the hotel and all the parents are there and all the families. And it was just, it was so packed. And obviously, that's so much, like everyone, you know, spending their Christmas there. Like, that's all they're thinking about, like, families, Christmas. Like, everything's around the world, junior. so when we won everyone's like just as fired it up as like Teddy Stiego when he scored
Starting point is 01:43:03 like everyone just yeah it felt like you know it felt like everyone won that so and then uh Brady Kachuk actually told us before the tournament that if we won he'll set something up for us set something else up for us if we win it and he did so we had a fun time it's go bray what a fucking legend dude what was it can you say or is that is that an off camera thing might be an off it was a nice it was it was a nice dinner and an early bet time it was fantastic yeah exactly exactly that's great and then uh how what would what would a three p mean dude what what's uh what's uh what's the what's the mentality yeah i think the the the two p last year was like the like the u s has never done that so that was like the first time that was like a big thing like
Starting point is 01:43:47 let's first time like blah blah now we have two so and it's on home ice so that helps um and it's more just like a let's just say we're the best when three three and it's more just like a let's just say we're the best when three on home ice, like, let's just do it. You know, like one of those. Yep. And is there, you know, you talked about those guys before when you're stepping in that locker room that they feel like veterans.
Starting point is 01:44:08 Did you have that mentality now where you're like, okay, well, that's my job? Yeah, definitely. I think I got to have a big leadership role and kind of lead the right way, whether on or off the ice. It just helps the younger guys and the guys who haven't been in that situation. And I'm definitely, you know, I think I should do that for them because it makes it so much more enjoyable to kind of be a younger guy and, you know, you can just play more free. Yeah, no question about it.
Starting point is 01:44:34 Well, we've talked so much about, you know, how great of an early career you had and how much of a prospect you've been. You're one of the best goal scoring prospects the league is seen in a long time. So obviously, when it came time to the draft, that was a big talk point. And your draft is absolutely stacked. I mean, to look just being two years ago seeing how many guys from that first round are playing, not just minutes in the NHL right now, being massive, massive contributors to their team just shows how stacked the talent is.
Starting point is 01:45:01 But there are times in that draft where people were talking about you as a number one overall pick. That's how great of a player you've been. Now, I know that you're a super focused player. You're excited for every opportunity you get. What was that process like for you? Being in the draft, maybe falling a little bit, seeing some teams pass on you. Is that something that you use for motivation?
Starting point is 01:45:23 Is it something that you just let go in one or out the other and just focus on the future? where was your head at during the draft? Yeah, I think during the draft, obviously I just knew that going into it, I had no idea. Yeah, like just from like here and from just like, just like, just knew as like as I am as like a player, you just kind of know going in like,
Starting point is 01:45:43 you're just like kind of a wild card, which is, which I was okay with because I just like kind of being my own player and who I am and I just knew that. But, you know, obviously as time goes by, you kind of just, you know, put notes in your head. And, um, but then once you get picked, it's like everything else goes away.
Starting point is 01:45:58 Like you're just so grateful that, you know, you've, I have, I have just like, yeah, for the islanders to like pick me there. Like it was like, everything went away.
Starting point is 01:46:06 I'm an islander. That's all. Yeah. Hell yeah. Yeah. I mean, dude, dreaming of that moment your whole life,
Starting point is 01:46:12 right? Like that must be so cool, dude. Yeah, I was, yeah, yeah, it was crazy. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:46:18 it was, it was, it was awesome. It was awesome. Um, and how fired up are you? I'm like, like,
Starting point is 01:46:25 Chris just said, you're fired up to be an Islander. It must be, I know you're focused on BU right now and, you know, trying to win a Natty this season, getting back to that championship game. But obviously, you're tuning into the NHL games. Does it pump you up seeing how on the up and up the Islanders are and seeing the way Schaefer's playing and just like how bright the future looks? Yeah, definitely. I think even when I got picked, it was like, yeah, you know, they haven't had a first round
Starting point is 01:46:50 pick in the last four or five drafts. So there's not really much prospects. That was good for me in that time. And then, but then they were like a kind of like a middle of the pack team. And now they're kind of have a lot more excitement. You know, they had a great draft last year. Callum Ritchie's now there. And now you got Shafe who's bawling out.
Starting point is 01:47:10 It's a lot of excitement. And it's pretty cool to kind of, you know, be in that kind of conversation of exciting guys that they have. Because they're very passionate fan base. I see people on BU's campus come up to me, be like, we're so fired up. and I'm like, let's go. You know, like,
Starting point is 01:47:26 yeah, that's so sick. Yeah, it's pretty cool. I fucking love that. Dude, it fires me up. Well, dude,
Starting point is 01:47:34 to get into BC, or to be you, God, what if I'm like that. Yeah, take it easy. Oh, yeah, be you,
Starting point is 01:47:38 be you. Don't me flip this hat around again. Yeah, say, that's strike one, dude, all right, that's strike one,
Starting point is 01:47:48 oh my God. Well, before you even got to be you, there was an awesome, moment because you had you had you had committed to the gophers you know you're going to play Minnesota and then you you posted that epic that story the I'm coming home story which got everyone juiced up and uh of course a ton that went into that decision was family and being closer to family yeah so if you're comfortable and you cannot be but if you're comfortable can you
Starting point is 01:48:11 just tell everyone um the story behind that and what went to that decision and what was going on in your life yeah i think just um something happened by you know my my dad and i kind of just kind of sat down of my room and I was just really thinking like it kind of hit me at one point I was like this is like the last time I can pick where I can play the draft and happening yet so I was like I don't know I could be in you know Alberta you could be in New York you know I mean you just so many different places I was like this is the last time I can you know pick to play haven't played at home in a while um you know I still want to regret not not having my family come to every game and and really sharing that experience. And so I decided, you know, I talked to my brothers and they definitely were for it and, um,
Starting point is 01:48:58 ended up being a great decision. I get family at every game. My niece and my, uh, my, uh, my nephew get to go to their first, you know, hockey games and all my little cousins. And, um, it brings a lot of enjoyment into my Newport youth hockey, like, they're, like they all come to the games. Yeah. Wow. That's awesome. It's really, it's, yeah, it's just building hockey around New Great Port 2 and they can all come to the games and skate at intermission and stuff like that. So it was it was all family and all kind of, you know, you know, warmhearted to, you know, my family for me to come here. No, it's so cool.
Starting point is 01:49:28 I mean, because, you know, at a young age, you're in Minnesota playing, then you're in Michigan playing. And it's, you know, yeah, you're a Massachusetts guy, but like, you didn't necessarily stay in Massachusetts the whole time. So to be able to get this time a couple of years to be back in the city with everyone around. For sure. That's so special. For sure.
Starting point is 01:49:43 Yeah. It's the best. Yeah, it was. Yeah. And you're doing to your younger generation what your older brothers were doing for you. You know, it's so safe to pass that down. Exactly. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:49:53 And that's epic. Yeah, that's awesome. Well, what was it about BU that made you choose BU? Because, you know, there's no shortage of great hockey schools in the Massachusetts area. What was it about BU that drew you to them? I've, it's kind of, I love the coaches here. Like, Pando's great. He really teaches you how to be a pro.
Starting point is 01:50:13 Love the colors. red and white, like the white gloves. So my brother played with Eichol a little bit, really big Eichael fan. He's probably my favorite player to watch in the NHL. I've talked to him a little bit and stuff like that. Just little things that go into it. I'm a city guy. I like the city.
Starting point is 01:50:32 So it was just little stuff like that. But definitely the coaches won me over for sure. I love Pando. And it just feels like a hockey school to me, so it's awesome. Mack went there. You couldn't let him have that bullshit over you, you know. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, he, I do like that.
Starting point is 01:50:47 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. How was it tough saying, telling Minnesota or was that easy? It was, it was hard, but it was, uh, it was easy because I knew it was right for me and my family. So it was like, it was one of those. Like it wasn't, it wasn't them at all. That's what made it easy for me because they were great.
Starting point is 01:51:06 Like it was awesome. Like obviously. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Yeah. No kidding. Never heard that one. Uh, uh, ha.
Starting point is 01:51:15 Yeah, but it was pretty easy That's good That's good You were telling the truth You were telling the truth We're off the rails boys Yeah Yeah
Starting point is 01:51:24 Well dude hold on I got to Because you mentioned the BU Uniform Dude so clean It's unbelievable How clean those Those jersey setups
Starting point is 01:51:32 Are in the gloves And all that But that immediately Makes me think of I almost forgot To ask you about this One of the Swagiest
Starting point is 01:51:39 Pre-game In the game In the college game In the pro game what you do skating out to the blue line. When did you start doing that? Was that it? Like, did one day you just go,
Starting point is 01:51:51 I'm going to just do this? Or is that something you practice? Because I don't think people realize how fucking hard that is. I know. It was like, I get so amped up and I'm just like, I,
Starting point is 01:52:02 the first time I did it, it was like my first start. It was first Michigan. I don't really like like how to kind of like the slow. Like, I kind of want to go with the crowd. And I was just like, and I actually feel more confident
Starting point is 01:52:12 stopping on that one leg, than the two legs. But, like, specifically, the back one leg, the underside leg, that's what's so slaggy about it. Like, I don't know, like the balance, it just feels like I can control the edge a lot more. Like, I feel like with two, like I could catch one and then, I don't know. I don't even want to talk about it. Social suicide, dude, you know, we'll never come up from that. Skating coaches right now are like, what the hell is going on?
Starting point is 01:52:39 My dad's like, please don't fall every time you do it. I'm like, yeah, we'll see what happens, you know? Oh my God, it's so gas. I love it. Dude, your first year was epic. And it's like, I wrote down so many things I wanted to tell you, lead the team with 25 goals as a freshman. You pummel those losers BC who sucks in the bean pot.
Starting point is 01:53:01 You have a goal there. You have Nick O.T. In like the hockey's quarterfinals. You have two tucks against Ohio State in the tournament. Survive that crazy Cornell game. That was actually nuts. And they were better than people thought. then game winning goal against Penn State,
Starting point is 01:53:16 hey, welcome to the Frozen Four, get fuck, see you later, Penn State, and then go to a national championship and obviously don't get the result you want against the Western Michigan team, but you had a goal, I had my guy. Is that, that was, there must have been such massive highs and such massive lows too, but what goal was that first season of college hockey
Starting point is 01:53:35 like playing for your fucking hometown, so nuts. Yeah, it was awesome. Like, if you told us from our first half of the year that we would be in the NASCAR championship, we'd probably be like, yeah, right. Like, we were such an up and down year, like, so many emotions. And but the guys just, like,
Starting point is 01:53:50 we were so close and it was an up and down year, but, like, the emotions kind of stayed even keel. We kind of just, like, stayed with the path. We were, like, a bubble tournament team at some times the, like, some points of the year. We were, like, second in the country. Then we were, like, 19th at some point. And then we really just started to figure out, like,
Starting point is 01:54:06 that bean pot game, being BC, like, dude, it re, like, gave us life to that whole year. and we just started playing real hockey, and then in those tournament games, and anything can happen. Like, you could see, like, Cornell beat, Cornell beat Michigan State with, like, a second left, because we thought we were playing Michigan State because we were like, all right, they're, like, unbelievable team.
Starting point is 01:54:25 They win, play Cornell. Sometimes you get, like, Quinny shot it from the blue line just goes in. Like, it's stuff like that. Yeah. It's just, it's nuts. And then obviously, you get to that last game, obviously disappointing, but it's, it was awesome. They're really good hockey team, so you got to tip your cap sometimes, you know.
Starting point is 01:54:42 Yeah, no doubt. But, you know, it's funny. We talk to Mac about it all the time, Smitty as well. Obviously, they, you know, best buds now in San Jose, but had a nice rivalry in college hockey. And it's so funny, you know, I feel like so many of these, you guys who go through this experience where, you know, you're a high draft pick. You obviously want to get to the NHL. Sometimes you do need to just press pause because you will look back and go, college hockey was the most fun I ever had. And like Chris said, dude, to have the amazing journey. journey to, you know, go through that battle with your dad, come home to a school in your home state, and then just enter college hockey and it's that sick of a whirlwind. It's like, what a rip that was. Yeah. It was awesome. Yeah, I wouldn't trade a world. Wouldn't change anything. Yeah, exactly. How sick is the bean pot, dude? I feel like people don't, I agree. I agree. Non-regional people, Cole, don't understand how sick the bean pot is. Oh, my goodness. It's like, that's what I, like, grew up. You're like every month, every first Monday mom gave me taking same pop like let's
Starting point is 01:55:43 grown up it was in cool like oh my it's unbelievable like just like the pride the like the fans the schools like you're playing a TD like half the kids are mass kids so it's just like all pride and then it's just like you're playing oh it's just like it's so fun I don't know how to explain it just so fun it can kind of save a season too where you're like hey boys you know came a little short hockey east came a little short in national championship but you're on the bean pot though beat bc and the bean pot yeah I'm like yeah you get to like me I get to say it won't a bean pot like my like my dad my dad's like obviously grew up in Boston too he's like that like
Starting point is 01:56:16 that that's so sick like he like he like he's like he's like I like he's like I wish I won the bean pot you know like stuff like that it's like in celebrating a championship in February like like I feel like he won a hundred games just two games though yeah it does yep yeah you're right that it's such a good point like that that shoots so much adrenaline in you in you for the rest of the season. Like, that could pick the boys up. That's fucking huge. Oh, my kid.
Starting point is 01:56:41 It is awesome. I actually love what you said about last season, how you guys were very up and down. I feel like you were a bit up and down this year, right? It's like, you know, at one point rank number one, you're five, five and one. You've had a couple of tough games against Maine, but then great bounceback games against Merrimack and things like that. First of all, are we all good after the Yukon buck? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:57:01 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, everything's good. Are you playing this weekend? Yeah, I'm playing this weekend. Come on, dude. Good, good, good. Fired up.
Starting point is 01:57:09 Yeah. There we go. All right. Do you think that the journey of last year and kind of having those ups and downs and then seeing that where you could still go after that is keeping you guys all cool and level-headed, especially being a return player? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, for the return is for sure. We have like 14 or 15 new guys this year.
Starting point is 01:57:27 So it's a big change. That's the hardest. That's the hardest part. As the new guys, oh, just to click something. No, no, you're good. You're good. Okay. Yeah, as the returners were like, whatever, like this is good.
Starting point is 01:57:41 Like we played 10, what is 11 games. You had a few like bad losses, but like this is just part of a new team, college hockey. Like we said, like a bean pot can change your, like, but if we just keep building from like that last weekend, anything can happen. It's crazy. Yeah. Totally. So true. And what was the process for you of making the decision to come back?
Starting point is 01:58:06 Was that a strictly you decision? Is that something you talk with the Islanders about? Talk with your family about. Yeah, it was honestly everybody. I think it's such a good place to develop here. Like Pando's awesome. College hockey is sick right now. It's like it's probably the best it's ever been.
Starting point is 01:58:21 There's so much buzz around it. There's no rush at all, like at all. Like they'll, they have no rush. I have no rush. My family has no rush, obviously, because they love it. And you can just develop here. like you're playing against so many good players. It feels like every weekend we go into,
Starting point is 01:58:39 like this team's very good. You should show it's like, it's a lot of fun too. So no rush at all. Yeah. That's the biggest thing we're seeing, dude, is there's no nights off anymore.
Starting point is 01:58:48 You used to have those weekends we're like, okay, let's go grab two hands and then go party. And it's like now, dude, every game is like, okay, dude,
Starting point is 01:58:54 we are giving us their best shot and you guys need to do, you need to punch right back or you're dead. Oh yeah. Yeah, exactly. You can't give any team anything. at all anymore. There's no such thing as those games anymore.
Starting point is 01:59:08 It's so true. Like we said, you've got QU coming up. You got Northeastern who's playing great hockey right now. Unreal hockey. Obviously, yeah, important games that you guys need to win and want to win. For sure. We know about the rivalry with BC, of course. For you, maybe not necessarily historically for BU, but for you, have there been any
Starting point is 01:59:27 births of rivalries that there are teams that you're like, fuck them. I want to beat them so bad every time you see them. I'm trying to think. Like, we've kind of started a little one with, like, Yukon. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Like, definitely. They're really, like, when I was growing up watching my brother play at UNH, Yukon was never really that good.
Starting point is 01:59:48 Now, when I, my two years in college hockey, so my experience of college hockey, they're a great hockey team. So it's always a battle. Those guys are good players. Like, they got a lot of swagger over there, too. And it's, like, they beat us in the semifinals last year in the hockey east. It's like a, I think it's kind of a newer. new arrival probably it's like a they uh they don't really know if they even have a rival so
Starting point is 02:00:08 i mean i'm sure they think we're but now's you you're gonna see it again yeah it could be us you yeah definitely no doubt no doubt yeah it's cool seeing i mean like when we're not to age ourselves but when we were growing up like they weren't even a team and like all of a sudden now here they are fighting for naties and it's like it's like you said college hockey's bigger than it's ever been and seeing especially even if you just go regionally look at the northeast like there are so many teams and not just that there are so many men good teams. So it makes it like you said,
Starting point is 02:00:35 it's like you guys can't sleep for a single weekend. It's like you play an unranked team. It doesn't matter. They could fucking beat you at any time. It makes it so excited. It's unreal. Yeah, it is. Dude,
Starting point is 02:00:45 what's, what's college been like? Just, you know, ignore the hockey for one second. Just like, are you having a good time? Is it sick being in the city? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:00:52 Yeah. What classes are you taking? Yeah, I mean, the class. Now, come on, Cole, tell us about your polysy class.
Starting point is 02:01:03 No, I'm in, like, I'm in, the law school so yeah there we go fuck yeah i knew it dude this guy not not not a not all day not not at all but it's great like we're in the city like you if you want you can go to fenway you can go to the red sox games there's a lot of places to go down there and then you have the south end like we're in a great spot um people love us around kind of like love like we're the school like the
Starting point is 02:01:25 the stuff we're the team on campus where absolutely um you know the hockey guys um the other sports don't really like that but uh just the other sports don't really like that but uh just the way it is and then it's true that's the world we live yeah sorry man that's the world we live yeah yeah exactly but then you you run into bc guys northeastern guys harvard guys all the time and then it's like what's up guys you know it's like it's just funny and um but it's been great obviously some of my best friends that i'll i'll have forever and um such a fun time so we might not have you in boston for much longer so i got to ask well we can being a massachusetts guy kind of a boston guy at heart What are your favorite Boston things?
Starting point is 02:02:05 Are you a North Shore beef guy? Are you a clam chowder guy? What's the vibe? Maybe a little lobster. Yeah, a little lobster roll. Can't go wrong with a little lobster roll, a little lobster. There you go. Just like, what else is like a Boston?
Starting point is 02:02:22 Lobster mac and cheese? Oh, yeah, I love. Gas. Wait, dude, cool. Have you been to Bark and Crab? No. All right. Well, when we are in Boston, we got to take him there.
Starting point is 02:02:34 That is the best. I mean, if we're getting lobster in Boston, it's parking. They actually throw down at Christmas. Like they do. Yeah, really. We'll go over break. Yeah, yeah. It's an absolute rip.
Starting point is 02:02:43 It's fantastic. What's the, what's the, what's the, what does it score does Dunk's cold brew get? Dunks? A Dunks cold brew is actually, it's really close. So it's kind of like a spot I go to sometimes. A Dunks cold brew is like a, I'm pretty, I kind of try to use this. We try to use the port noise scale, like obviously you got to be hard. That's like a seven, I think it's like a seven-seven gold brew.
Starting point is 02:03:08 Oh, that's good. Yeah, that's really strong. Okay, dunks. Yeah, I think. Dunks out here, but they don't realize that it's legit. Ed, but I think that bumps it up with some ass guy, and it's just kind of dunks, you know, and kind of, hey, can't. What we grew up on.
Starting point is 02:03:20 Can't chirp dunks. Yeah, exactly. We don't make the rules. We're trying to get brand deals out here. Like, we can't be trying to get things out of it. Yeah, exactly. Good spot. We'll get into it more, but like, I, I want to make.
Starting point is 02:03:31 What? How in the world did you become such a coffee thing? Ask you out a second. Yeah, okay. We'll leave it. We'll leave it. We'll leave it. So at the end of the show, we play a game with everyone. It's called pass-shute score.
Starting point is 02:03:42 And we're going to give you three things inside of categories that we know you like. And you have to rank them pass, shoot, and score. It goes in that order. Passing is your least favorite because passing the puck is. This is actually amazing for you because he's the greatest score. Yeah, no, yeah, definitely. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:03:56 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So, sweet. The first category for you is non-hockey sports to play.
Starting point is 02:04:06 Okay, non-hockey sports to play. Pass shoot score baseball, golf, or tennis. Oh, my. Well, can I, like, explain it? It can explain it, right? Yeah, of course, of course. I grew up a baseball guy. Like, I love baseball.
Starting point is 02:04:26 Like, that's my sport, but I'm not a baseball player anymore. So I think that that's got to go pass. Okay. Okay. That's smart. This is this is a good. I like where we're headed. I can't just get into a game anymore. I love throwing it around, but I think that's pass. Shoot. It's tennis. Tennis. I love tennis. My twin brother played in high school. So I got, I say I'm pretty solid. Love playing tennis. We do it at BU. We have courts here. Play that, but then scores always golf. It's just a hockey thing. Gotta be. The boys, you know, swinging them. Nothing better. Nothing better in the song.
Starting point is 02:05:02 Absolutely, absolutely perfect ranking. I thought you were going to score tennis, though, because you love tennis, dude. I was like, oh, man, this is going to be a contention. Yep. Well, here's the thing, Cole. CP found this. You once said when asked who your favorite tennis player is that the answer is you. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:05:19 Now, I mean, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. First of all, fantastic answer. But if we're going the goats, the legends, you got to pick one. Who is your guy? Roger, Ratha, or Joker. But it could be even now. He could be a sinner guy. He could be an Al-Qaraz guy.
Starting point is 02:05:35 I don't care. Yep. I liked you brought up to new school. I'm an Al-Craz guy. There you go. Yeah, yeah. I like it. When he plays center, I think Sinner's a great player.
Starting point is 02:05:45 I'm just an Al-Craz guy. Al-Cras got the fire, dude. He's got the fire. Yeah, he does. I love him. He shaved his head. Dude. Dude.
Starting point is 02:05:53 Cole, he shaved his head, and I went, this is the birth of a villain. Like, this man is going to. He had the pink outfit on, too. Yeah. Dude. next tournament next tournament, he didn't drop a single set. It was insane.
Starting point is 02:06:03 No, he was nasty. He was nasty. Joke. Um, okay, well, one, we just said, you're a big baseball guy. So your next pass shoot score is going to be Red Sox Legends. I already know who your score is going to be. Pass shoot score. Dustin Padroia.
Starting point is 02:06:19 Mookie Betts. Big pop. Yeah. Okay. No disrespect to Mookie. He's a pass. Oh, shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:06:28 That's correct. I'm going to say that. Yeah. I'm going to say. He's now on multiple World Series with the Dodgers now. We can't pick him as a lot of socks. Exactly. But he was unbelievable for the socks, though.
Starting point is 02:06:39 Like, unbelievable. Dude, then you get, then you get the shoot, Padroia. He is the grit, like, just the grit he had. That was my boy, dude. That was my boy. Growing up. I had two Padroia jerseys, dude. That was my god.
Starting point is 02:06:55 Pejoya, growing up, that was, oh, hearing his name on the radio, always fired me up, like stuff like. bad Petroya just liked him and then I wear 34 big poppy so I just kind of correct yeah so it makes sense he was the man growing up the man remember just to give mookie love remember that 13 pitch at bat yeah blue jays blue jays grand slam that i go back and watch that you good video sometimes just the greatest at bad ever and then i will forever hate manny machado for ending dustin petroias i know dude people forget that people forget that they don't talk about it enough drives me insane Not a mani guy either.
Starting point is 02:07:32 Do you have love for Pedro and Mani, or are you just too young? Like they weren't making memories. I was definitely too young, but when I watched the thing on Netflix, I definitely love Pedro. Yeah, got to get fired up. Gotta get fired up for those boys.
Starting point is 02:07:49 Yeah, so definitely young, but a lot of respect for those guys, just because of Boston lives. Yeah, your family knows telling all the last stories. Oh, yeah. No doubt. Definitely. Okay. Your next category,
Starting point is 02:07:59 is pre-game rituals. Okay? So pass shoot score, counting the number of puck after you toss them, counting the number of warm-up pucks after you toss them on the ice. Okay, yeah.
Starting point is 02:08:10 Your water, pediolite coffee combo. Yep. Or showering in the dark while you listen to music. These are tough. I'm going to go, pass is counting the pucks.
Starting point is 02:08:27 A little boring, but still, like to do it. Gets the eyes loose. You can stretch the eyes, so. Dude, you got to stretch the eyes. You got to stretch the eyes. I'm going to go shoot is the drink combo. Yep.
Starting point is 02:08:41 Love doing it. It's like, I just gets me fired up. Just know that I'm just ready to go. And then I think just I started the dark shower with the music during Shattuck. And it's never, it's never not meant. Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? I don't. All of those pregame rituals are the most insane OCD shit I've ever in my life.
Starting point is 02:09:05 It's insane. It's like my whole, like I try to relax. Like I get out of the ring because I know when the day of a game comes, it's going to be just mentally just like, you're a psychopath. Yeah, his poor kid is exhausted before the game even happens. That's what the naps for. An 82 game schedule is going to fuck this kid out, dude. Because he's going to play every fucking night.
Starting point is 02:09:28 I'm going to be doing this everywhere. Or I'm just going to turn into the psycho and have nothing in my room still. The pediolite and coffee budgets are going to go through the fucking roof. But here's the question. With the shower cold, did that, was that an accident? Like, did you shower in the dark by accident? And then you were like, well, it's kind of worked. Or was that an active decision you made?
Starting point is 02:09:46 So it looked into the Shattuck dorm. So we had, so our, it was COVID. So it was only our U-14 team at the top floor. Yeah. So we have our own bathroom. So what we would do before the game is we had like the speaker that would light up It's obviously cooler in the dark
Starting point is 02:10:03 Right? Yeah It'd light up speaker So we'd have all the boys The showers are lined up Like it's lined up like this And with the boys are getting there Like eight, the eight of the guys
Starting point is 02:10:14 Put on some tunes and just shower And we'd get fired up for the game Yeah exactly So awesome Yeah Yeah So it just kind of started there And I was like
Starting point is 02:10:23 Yeah So when I got to the program I was like, I gotta keep it going. Like, you know, just firing me up. Gotta keep it going. Yeah, just firing me. Those are just, that's a vibes decision and it's too good to quit. So I get it.
Starting point is 02:10:36 Okay. Yeah, it just, yeah, it's awesome. And then, and then I have two follow-ups about the coffee. One, I've heard that you're a cold brew with almond milk and I've also heard you're a cold brew black. So I want to know what the answer is. And two, how the fuck did this happen? Like, how are you in the whole, how are you in a whole review in Boston?
Starting point is 02:10:55 Think the first question is This is the simplest answer I grew up and just realized black is the same It's way better. It just feels like, you know, I just And I can't The man that goes right to the source, dude. I can't have anything else in it
Starting point is 02:11:13 Because I make fun of everyone else If they put stuff in it, I just ask them how their milkshakes doing. So So I legit can't. Yeah, you're fucked now. You're fucked now. And another story about like
Starting point is 02:11:25 The black coffee is like, I used to chirp putty every time because he would get like this latte with like, you know, pumpkin, you know, all that stuff. And I'm just like, dude, what, like that's just not dialed and that's just not pro. And just like turp him. That is that. He's not dialed. You know what I mean? That's coast. That's coast shit right there.
Starting point is 02:11:41 Yeah. Yeah. So you can, but then he's like actually like you can see it. You can see his like order get lighter and darker and darker, which is nice. And then. Yeah. So we're, this is how it started. So we're at this coffee shop right by.
Starting point is 02:11:55 be you and we're just sitting there like on a Sunday like 9 30 a.m. just like having our as I love coffee he loves coffee I get it every morning. It's kind of like a fun thing to do. We're sitting there. We're like just tasting these coffees. We're like, dude, we love coffee shops. Why don't we just start ranking these coffees and just do something? Because we get, you get bored and it's like, let's just start going.
Starting point is 02:12:19 Let's have an excuse to go to random coffee shops, see what's there about and to just rate coffees and just see how it goes. And it's actually done pretty well. It's not bad. Oh, it's fantastic. And you're going to start make or breaking coffee shops, just like Portnoy was doing. Exactly. Like people are going to be like, please come and get us going. We're the last one. We were in the shop and I was like, do you think we can film in here? They can like kick us out because that's how I'm used to like Portnoy like getting kicked out of places. Yeah, exactly. Well, what I love about this too is so much like the coffee snobbery is a real thing. Like some people take it so seriously. And I love that now in the city of Boston,
Starting point is 02:12:54 We've got these two hockey guys who are, like, going to start making and breaking these bougie coffee shops. Oh, yeah. It's, it's, it's, the guys now trip me because they think my whole personality is around coffee now. So it's, but I'll just, showering in the dark. Hey, there's, there's nothing wrong with having a brand, baby. There's nothing wrong with having a brand.
Starting point is 02:13:13 It's, it's fun. It's, it's nice. Dude, we got to get, uh, sway on the show. We're nominating Jeremy Swamen for your, you got to do Witt. Have you done Witt yet? I know Grinnell nominated Wynn. No, no. Okay.
Starting point is 02:13:23 So after Witt. Yeah. We got to get, after we get, we get definitely text Sway because do you know Sway, he skated with us like. Oh, dude, we, we were talking to him the whole time. He was doing that. It was amazing. He's a beauty, man. Oh, he's truly the best guy in the entire world.
Starting point is 02:13:39 It's unreal. He might as well be a BU guy, how much he was around here. Like, actually, he was in our dining hall. We were joking. We were like, you need an honorary degree after that stint. And he was like, well, it was awesome. And he's, he's the, oh. Yeah, he's such a.
Starting point is 02:13:53 Yeah. Oh, yeah, we got, that's a good one, actually. It's a good one. Yeah, yeah. Swagin on there is a lot. All right, your last pass shoot score is going to be songs. And this is fun because a little birdie told us that you are a big singer. Love, love singing.
Starting point is 02:14:08 Which I really need to hear more about. I'm not going to hide it. I'm not going to hide it. I am. Good, good. I like it. So your three songs are going to be wagon wheel, chicken fried, and more than, more than,
Starting point is 02:14:23 my hometown. Foof. Wow. I'm going to go pass is going to be more than my hometown. God damn. Oh, wow. The other ones were Wagon Wheel and Chicken Fried. Yep.
Starting point is 02:14:45 I think then I'm going to go shoot is chicken fried. and then score is wagon wheel. I could, I think I could, I, this is something about just like the tempo and the way it just goes. Oh, it's unbelievable. I couldn't agree more. I love that. I play, it's my favorite song to play in guitar.
Starting point is 02:15:07 I just belt it as loud as I can. And dude, talk about weird as fuck superstition. Before exams in college, I would literally, like, be at a library or wherever, or my dorms studying. And then two minutes, three minutes before I had to leave for class to go take the exam, I would stop studying and listen to wagon wheel. and then go take the test. I was like, just calm me down, dude, boom.
Starting point is 02:15:26 And then everything worked out after that. You should have done it in the dark. That's how it'd be even better. Yeah, that's why my whole day is just, I'm like, yeah, hell yeah, I'm ready to go. Every single thing I do. That's awesome. Just listening to Wagon Wheel all day. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:15:39 So tell us about the singing, dude. Is this in the shower or is this while you're cooking? Is this all the time? What's the deal? This is like, there was like, it was a problem when I, like, the program. Like, guys just always tell me to shut up. It's like, but I'd just. I love it.
Starting point is 02:15:53 Like throwing like a good country, a little tune, just like little J.B. Sue me, you know? It's like, like shower. Obviously the acoustics are a little better in there. You sound a little better. Yeah, so they would feel a little better, you know, it's, but then like in the locker room all the time. And, you know, I'll never shy away from a little karaoke.
Starting point is 02:16:10 And the guys don't even, the guys don't even want to shoe check me because they notice I just want to do it. Yeah, you're like, please. I'm begging you. Yeah. Put some butter on my shoe. I'll sing right now. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:16:21 Dude, and listen, man, singing's good for the soul. Like, if you want to raise the vibes up, just start singing. Yeah. It's fantastic. What's your karaoke song? That's a tough one. It's, it's, what was my one last year? I did, uh, Beautiful Crazy.
Starting point is 02:16:36 It's usually a pretty classic one for me. Yeah, yeah. That is a good one. Yeah. That's a really good one kind of, it, uh, it's like, it's like, it's like slower, but everyone knows it so it can kind of get guys involved. It's a little, you know, it's a little good vibes. It's not too much, but it's like, it's a good one, you know, so.
Starting point is 02:16:52 That's awesome, dude. That's awesome. Phenomenal. Well, Cole, the last thing we wanted to ask you was, I saw you say to Grinnell that the, you asked him the Malkin-Kainer thing, because you were like, the boys at Meal, at pregame meal, have a lot of debates. Yeah. So we were curious if there was any other sick debates you had that you wanted to toss us,
Starting point is 02:17:09 because I want to go, I want to weigh in on one. So what was something that you guys is chop? What else is another debate? Best Russian? I don't know. Dude. We were talking. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 02:17:19 Did we start this? We literally, like, a few pods ago when we, released a huge clip that was like, who is the best Russian of all time. And it's, I think it's a more complicated and layered discussion than people think. Well, yeah, what did you guys say? I always say OV, or like, it's like, it's like, then I'm going against myself, but then he doesn't do other stuff, but I like, you know, I like what he does. So I put one of those.
Starting point is 02:17:47 Yeah, I bet you do. Oh, you like OV, Cole? That's funny. And you got Fedorov, and you got Kuturav. It's like... Yep. Datsuk. Yep.
Starting point is 02:17:58 Datsuk. Oh, that was another one we did. What is it? So we did Dotsuk and Bergeron or something like that. One of... Like, Datsuk and... You know what we've extended that to? We did throw in Kopee in there too.
Starting point is 02:18:13 Berg, Kopee and Datsuk. It's an impossible decision. Because I didn't realize how many sell keys that Datsu... one. Dude, he is a, he's a gift. How many was it? How many was it? I think Dotsuk has three and he's also got two cups and he was also a fucking 90 point
Starting point is 02:18:31 guy. Like he's out of, yeah, it's. Yeah. So I was like Bershry, Dotsuk and then it kind of went into like a, like a Zetterberg Martian thing to. Oh, that's a fun one. It's like kind of weird. It's like kind of weird.
Starting point is 02:18:44 It's like kind of like kind of get into that Red Wings. I don't know why, but it's kind of like all over the place and it just just, just crazy debates. That Malkin, Kainer one is tougher than people always say just because we're a bunch of Americans to say caner, but then you're like, you look at the stats and it's the same basically dude, cool. We, we, the other episode, I like gave Chris a trivia thing about Malkin. His beginning of his career is one of the most preposterous things I've ever seen in
Starting point is 02:19:11 my entire life. Like if you look at it, his like, the second he got to the NHL, it was like Art Ross, Cup. Yeah. Hansmite. Khan Smyth. Like, he just won everything. I think because he was on Sid's team,
Starting point is 02:19:25 so many people just forget that he was a top three player in the league for 10 straight years. It's insane. Yeah, because I see, then you see, they look at caner stats and he, I think he has the exact same awards. Well, it's, yeah, it's absurd. Yeah, it's absolutely absurd. Malkins, Malkins even in the Russian conversation. Oh, yeah, no question.
Starting point is 02:19:43 You know what I mean? He gets left out of that, be easily. But I'm like, no, dude, he's right there. It's insane. Sid, Ben, is just. It's just overpower. It was just crazy because of how a good Malkin is. So true.
Starting point is 02:19:54 And you know who's going to get in that Datuk Berg thing is Barkoff? Like once Barkoff's done. He already is. You know, like that's going to be a fucking nightmare. He's going to have another up. Not having him around right now is not fun. I like watching. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:20:07 Oh, for sure. Dude, he's going to come back in February and win the Selkees still. He probably could. He probably could. He probably could. All right, Cole. Well, you're a fucking ledge for popping on. Dude, this was so, so fun.
Starting point is 02:20:19 We can't thank you enough. Before we cut you loose, is there anything you want to shout out, anything you want to plug? Huddy said when I came on here, just glaze him. So, Huddy's a beauty.
Starting point is 02:20:30 He's the best. Uh, sick player. All facts. All facts. Shout out, shut out, and the Cole's coffee reviews.
Starting point is 02:20:37 Let's go. Let's go. There you go. Throw Cole's coffee review. Is it plural or singular? Is it singular? Is it singular? Cole's coffee review?
Starting point is 02:20:43 I think it's singular. I think it's singular. Cole's coffee review, singular. Yeah. Throw it a follow. Beauty. Yeah. Let's go.
Starting point is 02:20:52 He's a beauty. He's a fucking weapon. Also, shout out Duncan. Yeah. If you're looking to sponsor any shows. Yeah, don't. I know of one. Let's go.
Starting point is 02:21:02 But yeah, man. And then, hey, give him hell this weekend, bro. Yes, sir. Yeah, thank you. Appreciate it. Humongous thank you to Cole Aiseman. Be you legend already. Soon to be New York Islanders legend.
Starting point is 02:21:14 Empty Netters legend already. What a guy. What a gang. I, he's such a awesome dude. Yeah. It's going to make me start drinking coffee. Yeah. But I can't, I can't wait for the bean pot to, you know, just to be there in that experience.
Starting point is 02:21:28 Bark and Crabb, dude. Do some stuff with Bauer. Bark and Crabb with Cole. That's going to be a blast. It's going to be incredible. All right, it's time to get into our surfside, tipsy takes. I love it. This one is mine.
Starting point is 02:21:40 I'm so glad you're on board with tipsy takes, but. No, it's fantastic. So now, Buffer, we get to respond to CP's hairbrand ideas. I feel like of the. two of us who's going to have the weirder take because it's probably you. That's probably true. And I was telling Sean before you got here. And I don't know yet if we're going to do, we have an episode schedule for Thanksgiving
Starting point is 02:21:57 Day. And I don't, I can't remember what we did last year if we dropped it or not. Well, Sean's Irish. So he doesn't even celebrate things. No, he does. I discussed this. You weren't here. I'm into it now ever since I learned about the food.
Starting point is 02:22:06 Yeah. Dude, my culture is not your day off. Yeah. Okay. I'm going to say that to you next. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:22:17 The next schedule tipsy, is Thanksgiving. So, Thanksgiving episode. So I was going to do a Thanksgiving one, but I was like, oh, I got to save that. So here, I, something tickles me about people listening to the empty notice podcast on Thanksgiving Day. Yeah. Because people are going to do it. And I'm like, hell yeah. That's awesome. So my tipsy take is, I believe, and I'm going to try to keep these very real. Like, this won't be for clicks. Okay. Your surfside tipsy tick is I believe that we as a species, as a society probably is better put. are washing our hands too often. And just let me explain to myself here.
Starting point is 02:23:00 I admit that when COVID happened, and we were all masked up all the time and washing our hands every five seconds, at least everyone I was talking to was getting sick way less. So I can admit that I'm like, you know what, if you really do bubble yourself to a degree, you will be pretty safe.
Starting point is 02:23:19 Sure. But since no one wants to live in that world, and we need to just be out in the mixer. I think that, and the bigger picture of my take is we are way too germophobic because going outside and eating dirt on the playground as a little kid literally built up immunities in your body that help you get sick less. Yeah. We now, parents and everybody's so like rubbing alcohol everywhere and no one touch anything.
Starting point is 02:23:47 And like, dude, I didn't even want to call her out. But Sandra, my girlfriend, I will. Like, we'll be eating food at our home. And it's like, a piece of food falls off my plate. And I'm like, she's like, squirting fucking Purorelle down my throat. And I'm like, it's fine. And like, it's fucking not that dirty. And even if it is, who gives a fuck?
Starting point is 02:24:10 Like, nothing bad is going to happen. And don't even get me fucking started on the post-pee hand-shed, handwash. Don't even get me fucking started. If I walked out after peeing without washing my hands, the uproar that I will receive. And sometimes I do, but sometimes I don't. And I'll tell you what, if we're being completely honest,
Starting point is 02:24:31 my little Linus has just been sitting in my boxers all day pretty clean post shower, whereas my hands have been touching fucking this microphone and cups and money and all this shit. I should, in fact, wash my hands before I pee, before I touch my dick. But instead, everyone gets mad at me for not washing it after. that's a type of narcissism where it's like the world is not as clean as my penis yes yes that is my
Starting point is 02:24:58 that is my penis is too good for the outside world that is my head that is the stamp that I want to put on this tape my peeing gloves to make sure my penis is much cleaner than the world okay I agree with some of this I do think that we are too much of
Starting point is 02:25:14 germophobes yeah way too often and I also I do want to say this. Food, if I eat, I don't know, we've not shared too many meals together. I am the biggest napkin boy who has ever lived. It's a problem. If I'm eating a meal, I have 50 napkins. It's crazy. Like, I am wiping my mouth and my hands at all times. I hate the feeling of food on my mouth and hands. And frankly, when I go out to eat with people, I will, when the meal is finished, I will usually go to the bathroom and then, like, wash my hands. I'm
Starting point is 02:25:49 face. Yeah. Like, I don't wash my face, but I will, like, put water around my mouth and make sure that.
Starting point is 02:25:54 Post-eating instead of pre-eating. Yeah, yeah. Because I'm like, I don't like that feeling. But on hands specifically, is there anything cooler than when you're,
Starting point is 02:26:04 like, you're doing some yard work or manual labor and you get, like, dirt and oil and, like, soot and stuff on your hands. And you just like,
Starting point is 02:26:16 I'm a man. You look down at your, like, dirty hands and you're like, I'm a man. I genuinely, I'm telling you right now, I'm in my mid-30s, I feel that way still. Like if I'm painting something, if I'm working on something and my hands get filthy, I love it. You're so right. There needs to be a product for this to mimic this way of having to do the work.
Starting point is 02:26:33 Yes. Oh, I love this. Sean! Dude, this is great. It's called like workman's hands. Workman's hands. I like it workman's tattoos. Workman's hand? I might tattoo it to my hands every day. Wow.
Starting point is 02:26:44 They're like this. Where's he coming from? Tattoo to dirt. What was he just doing? Jesus Christ. Would you be a great idea until like your wedding day? And they're like, wash your hands and you're like, it's actually attached it. But that's why Sean,
Starting point is 02:26:54 that's why we need the product. Workman's hands. Yeah. Dude, I'm telling you when I, when you'd be, and it happens still every now and then, I feel like it's more of a whole, like a small town thing. But when I go into a sandwich shop or a corner store
Starting point is 02:27:08 and there's the guy in front of me and he's got Timberland boots on and car hard jeans and I see him reach into his pocket to pull out his credit card to pay for something. And he's just got, yeah, usually cash. about cash. That's a cash guy, you're right. And he's just got like dirt and oil and soot and like cracked fingers
Starting point is 02:27:24 and he's like, here you go. I'm like, that fucking dude is so much cool than me. Do you have any idea how much that guy would beat the shit out of me? Through these tipsy takes, I've learned that you like it rough on your bum and you like big strong men. Yeah. With rough hands. With rough hands. This is interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:27:40 This is a lot to be unpacked there. Just saying, there's a market out there for me. And I'm going to find it. But dude, I, so like dirty hands, I agree, relax. But food, I'm not, I'm not into having food on me. Oh, yeah, no, I don't, I'm a napkin guy too. I also, like, I'm like the wipe after every bite, you know, like I bite and then I'm like, you know.
Starting point is 02:28:04 I do think you got to be washing your hands. I'm not going to be a prince about this. If you get pee on your hands. Oh, yeah, then wash them. Just be careful of that. But I'm not, I feel like, I feel like girls think, they think it's a fireman's hose. Yeah, yeah. And, I mean, maybe it isn't for you guys, but I'm using napkins in there afterwards too.
Starting point is 02:28:30 And there's more handling of it in girls' minds than I think. I agree. I'll tell you for free, ladies, I would say I touch my squeaker 50% of the time when I pee. Because sometimes I'm just pulling the pants down. I'm like texting and it's just. I just pull them down. Especially at a urinal, there's a huge target there. I'm handling the serpent if it's a toilet.
Starting point is 02:28:55 Yeah. Because I got to get it in there. Shared bathroom. Yes. Well, say you're at a bathroom where you care about the people coming in after you, right? Yep. Do you flush the toilet to get rid of your pee? Of course.
Starting point is 02:29:04 What? So you're flushing the toilet. Yeah. That means you're touching the handle of the toilet, which is gross, because people touch that after they wipe their ass. Yep. Okay, I like this. I like this a lot.
Starting point is 02:29:14 I like this a lot. A lot of them. I'm a big foot flusher. Okay. Yep. Big foot flusher. Yeah. If I'm in a bar, I bring a fucking baseball bat.
Starting point is 02:29:23 Fucking bad. Big foot flusher. And if it's one of the, if it's a urinal where the flush thing, we don't see those really often anymore. No. No, because everything's odd. But I would usually like give it a forearm. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:29:33 I would say what percentage, and this is clearly a me prop. Well, maybe not. You guys are semi on board with this so far. I think this has been semi-receptive. What percentage of people are rinsing their hands? after peeing in a public bathroom just for the visual of it. Over 50%.
Starting point is 02:29:52 100%. I think they were like, I wasn't going to, but now I'm in public, so I'm just going to... They're like, I don't want these people to think that I'm cool. Maybe I'm the germaphobe.
Starting point is 02:29:59 I always wash my hands afterwards. And even if I'm alone, I'm like, this could be gross because I don't want to... Yeah. See, unlike you, I suspect I sweat throughout the day as well. But your hands are sweaty.
Starting point is 02:30:12 Your hands are sweating too. Yeah, it's a very fair point. But it's like the sweat of my hands. Different sweat on the dick. My fucking hands are in my hair all day long. I'm like I've got like natural oils and shit in my hair. You're using the sweat of your hands. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:30:27 That's the secret. I even want to ask you about this about why your hair is so perfect. The secret of my hair is my penis. Yeah. Probably a little bit of urine too. Yeah, yeah. Dude, it's the urine 100%. Which explains the smell.
Starting point is 02:30:41 But what people, what the audience never knows is how good you look, but how bad you smell. Yeah. Yeah, right. I have to sit here all day. Okay. That is actually probably my biggest pet peeve. I will not let that be on the airwaves. I smell amazing all the time.
Starting point is 02:30:54 That is actually, because of how strong my noses, you will never catch me not smelling good because I'm way too concerned about it. It's true. Oh, my God. Dan smells like roses. I do. Do you wash the first before you eat every meal? Not every meal.
Starting point is 02:31:09 But if I'm like, if I've been doing something I would, like, I wouldn't, like, what's weird is that if I'm at home, I will. But if I'm out and I'm just like grabbing food at like Subway or whatever, even if I have been working in my hands are dirty. I'm just like, screw it. Do you eat Subway a ton? Not a ton. Yeah. That was a crazy subway plant.
Starting point is 02:31:31 I needed to. I'm hoping to get that subway money. Just a really calculated. You're going to get shots of Jersey mics, dude. Holy shit. Have you guys tried the new $5 meal? deal on Fridays when you can never. Dude, if he ripped a perfect ad read.
Starting point is 02:31:51 Oh, I would have lost my mind. God. All right, well, listen. Wash your hands less. Yeah. See how it fits. I want to be on record that I'm not, I'm not supporting of washing your hands less, but I understand where you're coming from.
Starting point is 02:32:05 I do think that the immune systems need to be built back up. I'll give you that. Let's get into a beer league hotline. Sean, you ready to take us away? All right. So the league manager was the original creator of my team, but she stepped away because she's on three other teams. They all have the same name.
Starting point is 02:32:26 It's a deep anime reference. Not many understand. Only four guys of our 14 have the jersey. The new guy joined and suggested we get new jerseys and a new name. We were receptive, but the league manager shut it down. She's still in the chat despite not being on the team. and said she'd rather order more anime jerseys. Who is out of line here?
Starting point is 02:32:55 I love that it's a woman. I do. I don't know why. I really clung to that, but I wasn't expecting it. I also wouldn't have guessed that a person with deep anime references who were playing barely hockey was a woman. Four D's. So this is fantastic. I might surprise you guys here.
Starting point is 02:33:15 You've got to keep the name. Okay, I was going there too, but you know me, dude. I think this is awesome. I don't, and frankly, I don't think it has anything to do with the anime. Just, it's the, it's the legacy of it. It's the tradition of it. Ah, man, actually, you might have just talked me out of it somehow because I wanted to keep it because I love deep fantasy. And I was like any crazy anime reference, the jerseys are probably sick.
Starting point is 02:33:38 But think about, the jerseys are probably sick. I want to see a picture. Yeah, send us a picture. Yeah. Think about our beer league team. Our B-L league team is like 25 years old. Yeah. And most of the guys on the team don't even know why we're called what we're called.
Starting point is 02:33:52 Correct. And that is cool. The lore is cool. It's cool. You should. And the fact that this woman's still in the group chat and not on the team shows such a care for the legacy and for the program. Good point. I was going to chirp that too, but that's a good point.
Starting point is 02:34:06 I think it's awesome. But I would say that we have some guys. Yeah. Like there's still people that know why our team is what our team is. Yeah. If we were all gone. Yeah. And somebody was like, hey, we should get a new team name.
Starting point is 02:34:20 And the whole team was like, yeah, sounds good. That would be even worse. It would break my heart. It's because you didn't do your job educating the new guard. Yeah. Okay. What about, are you at all concerned that there's three other of these teams? No.
Starting point is 02:34:36 I think it's like a European football thing. It's like they're, what is the fucking like Spartak, Moscow? They've got like a basketball team, a hockey team, a curling team. like they're ever. So they're clearly in different divisions, right? They've got it. Yeah, yeah. So there's four different of these anime teams running around.
Starting point is 02:34:55 Yeah. And she's on three of them. Yeah, which is so cool. I wonder which one she... Is she on three other teams? Yeah, she's on three other teams. I wonder which one she quit. Like, I wonder what level this one is.
Starting point is 02:35:05 Did she quit the top one? I bet it's the top one. Did she quit the middle one? You know, she's getting older. She's stepping into more of a management role. Yeah. And you've got to keep it. I think you've got to keep it.
Starting point is 02:35:18 But here's the thing. Ask her, can we get new jerseys with the same logo? But design them yourself. It's like you're not abandoning the name of the logo. Like design your own jersey. Our own spin on the jersey. Yeah, if you're like, hey, we're paying for them. I think she would not mind that.
Starting point is 02:35:35 I think she's more like, I just want you to be called this thing. Yeah. Because dude, she's literally ordering more anime jerseys for the players. Yeah. Because she's like, you're right. It's unacceptable than only four of, you have it, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a mixed match. Get, get the, get the, get the PNG.
Starting point is 02:35:49 Yeah. Of the logo and be like, hey, we're going to design New Jersey. We're going to keep the same name. We just want our own spin on it. This, this I'm on board with. Yeah. We're doing an alt jersey for what anime do you think it is? I couldn't begin to, to guess.
Starting point is 02:36:04 I think this is a big factor that needs to be considered. Yeah. Because maybe they're just being gentle about the fact that they don't want to be like, you know. I think that they're in their heads about they're like, we don't want to You've seen as anime guys. Yeah, I'm like, dude. Anime's cool. What if it's, what if it's Dragon Ball Z?
Starting point is 02:36:20 That's not deep anime guys. No, the, yeah, well, I think the, deep anime reference, they said. Dragon Ball Z is like the first. It needs to be like neon Genesis Evangelian. Did John? Did you look that up or did you know that? Did Sean just out himself?
Starting point is 02:36:38 That's, that's the, the best anime ever. I'm like, There are some sick ones here. Is it better than Attack on Titan? The thing is I've only watched like two animates. What's it called again? Neon Genesis Evangelion. Fucking insane name.
Starting point is 02:36:57 Yeah, it's like from the 90s. Yep. Oh, yeah, dude, we need it to be this. If it's this, I'm in. Yeah. I don't think either of you are out of line, but I think you need to honor the history. But put your own spin on.
Starting point is 02:37:10 Oh, Jersey. Yep. I'm in. Okay, let's finish on up here with a nice Bauer blind ranking. In honor of the global series wrapping up in Stockholm, we're blind ranking the best Swedish names in the NHL, not their skill, the best Swedish names. Sean, I'm interested if you guys can pronounce these correctly.
Starting point is 02:37:36 Yeah, this will be a difficult one. Although this one's pretty cool. Although that's not for me to say, I suppose. Yeah, he's leading the witness here, dude. Victor Hedman. Okay. I am going to go very low here. I think that's okay.
Starting point is 02:37:55 I'm going to go very low here for a couple reasons. One, the... Do you want to try to pronounce it with the Swedish pronunciation? No, you can do those. Okay, go ahead. Victor Hidman. Okay, don't ever do that again. That's the end of the...
Starting point is 02:38:08 Okay, sorry. With the treasure trove of last names in the Swedish culture, this one leaves something to be desired for me. And I don't even know if this is actually Swedish or I've made it Swedish. But his first thing is not being spelled with a K. I was going to say, are you mad about the no K? He is, I'm like this, you're American. You're Canadian.
Starting point is 02:38:34 Victor Hedman is objectively a Swedish name. But it's not crazy. So I'll give you five? I think, no. Five minutes, dude. No, four. Five. Trust me.
Starting point is 02:38:49 Four. That's crazy. Okay, four. Trust me four. Four. Victor Edmund is a very Swedish name. No. Four.
Starting point is 02:38:58 Jesper Bratt? Really good. That's a great name. Yeah. The, I don't, the last name I have a similar complaint, though. No, it's very, it's... I have a similar complaint. There's, there's, there's, there's better ones.
Starting point is 02:39:16 I do think this is only three. Me too, but because the first name is tremendous. The first name is tremendous. Very good name. Yep, but due to the last name, I only go three here because I think there's more fun to be had. Yeah, really good. Okay. All right. William Carlson.
Starting point is 02:39:33 Ooh. That's great. Yep, very sweet. I think we're just climbing the ladder. I think we are too. We get the double S's. Yeah. In the K Carlson, not the C. Carlson, which I prefer as we've documented.
Starting point is 02:39:49 William is actually common, but doesn't scream Swedish to me. Well, I know. Say it. You're going to do the V. Yeah. And you could call him Villa, too, if you were, like, giving him a shorthand in Swedish. So William is very Swedish. Yep.
Starting point is 02:40:07 But when you see that name. Yeah, you think William. You don't go, oh my God, you must be Swedish. So, but I can't go five there. No, no, no, okay. We're going to go five. William Carlson is probably more Swedish to you than Victor Hedden. And it's really a Carlson-Yesper battle.
Starting point is 02:40:25 And I'll go, I'll go Carlson. Well, we don't have no choice. We're going to. We're going to. William Carlson, too. All right, a topical one, Adrian Kempi. This is tricky because there's some hammer, Swedish, names on the board.
Starting point is 02:40:40 I know. So it's like, so you can't do it to him. But I can't go juice five the day after he gets. But, hey, juice. So that's another one too where if you are, if you don't know he's Swedish, people see that and they're like Adrian Kempi or like. No, they probably say it like that or maybe Kemp, but yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 02:40:57 But it's like in Swedish. It is very Swedish. Say it. Say it Swedish. Odrian Kemp. Yeah. But man. I honestly, dude, I think.
Starting point is 02:41:07 And I'll just sit. I'll just put it out there. I'll put it all out there. I think any other week I might go juice five here out of fear of the powerhouse days, but I literally, I refuse to do this to him today. I know. I can't do it today. I have to go one.
Starting point is 02:41:22 I have to go one, dude. Yeah. All right. Oh, fuck. There are some haymakes. And something's going to come five here. That's going to hurt. And Hedman should have been fucking five, dude.
Starting point is 02:41:31 You might be right. We're going one. We are going one out of respect and loyalty. We probably should have gone five to two. Yes. And we'd be laughing. Okay, so give us the name who's coming in fifth. Yeah, Adrian, you are our one.
Starting point is 02:41:43 Yep, who's fifth, Sean? Gustav. No. Goose! Oh, my God. And that name is fantastic. Gustav Forsling. That is a fantastic sweetest name.
Starting point is 02:41:57 Hey, it's awful. This is completely my fault. I know. Thank you for saying that. This is completely my fault. But I won't ever apologize for not wanting to put Victor Headman in five. But this is completely my fault. my fault, we should have just climbed the ladder.
Starting point is 02:42:11 Yep. And we've done that before, remember? I know, I know, I know. We learned that climbing the ladder works. I know. Oh, shit. Unbelievable. Gustav Forsling, five. Five. Brutal. Is there anyone that you would have been like that is number one? Um, yes. Probably, uh, Philip Forsberg. So that, this is my... Spelled that way? Yeah. Well, I think Yoel Erickson Eck is, like, is like,
Starting point is 02:42:44 The most Swedish name ever. And Landy's a good one too. But, Sean, are you aware? Philip Forsberg. Are you aware of how they pronounce that in Swedish? I am not. So Berg is like, it sounds more like Barry. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:42:59 So his name in Swedish would be Philip Forsper. That's amazing. It's crazy. There was a, there was a, there was a, champion's league, but they were like, here's how you pronounce people's names. And it was like Christian Pulis sick. And it was like police sick, you know, giving pronunciation. and Emil Forrestberg.
Starting point is 02:43:14 It was like this, Froschberry. And I was like, Froshberry. But they were like, that's how they say it. I was like, that's insane. Also, Philip Gustafson, also Matthias Eckholm. Yeah, that's a good one. Like, holy fuck. Rasmus Dahlene.
Starting point is 02:43:28 Eric Carlson's great. You insane. It's great. Great names. All right, great names, great episode, beautiful stuff from everyone around. Absolutely love it. Huge shout out. And thank you to Cole Iserman, star for the BU Terriers,
Starting point is 02:43:41 prospect for the New York Islanders, Unreal on the show. Sean, just great stuff today. Guys, beautiful. Subscribe to the YouTube. Go buy some merch. We've got great stuff going on. Fun week ahead.
Starting point is 02:43:53 We'll see you next episode. And until then, skate hard.
