Ep 890: What’s next For Everyday AI?
00:01If you don't know anything about AI, that's okay.About four years ago on the very first episode of this podcast,I promised you that I would help you learn the basics about AI in large language modelsto learn along with me.And about 800 plus podcast episodes later,I hope I delivered on that promise. And I hope you've learned a bit along the way about how AI worksand how to apply it to grow your company and your career.
00:35Now it's time to turn the page.On today's show, I'm going to tell you about a new chapter in my life, what's next for everyday AI, and what it means for you.And I can always guarantee this will be the fastest episode ever, because you've listened before you know I get a little long-winded sometimes. So let's get it started. If you're new here, welcome to the Everyday AI podcast.I'm Jordan Wilson, and for the last four years, yeah, I've shown up here every day.
01:09Most days live at 7.30 a.m., and I've tried to make sense of this amazing yet perplexing technology that is artificial intelligence. But lately, I've been kind of phoning in from home.I've been a little absent, and people have been asking me, like, where have you bet?Right, my emails, the LinkedIn machines, everyone's text messages. It's like, Jordan, where have you been?Well, I've technically been here, but we've been replaying our popular series calledThis Start Here series. So throughout 2026, you know, once or twice a week, we put together a series called The Start
01:48Here series. And it was our essential guide for whether you were a beginner or an AI champion in yourorganizations to get caught up on the latest on certain topics and to get ahead. And we had played those throughout the entire year and we decided, all right, well,we're going to play these all one after another. So I've still been here every day, but like I said, technically replaying some of our mostpopular podcast episodes ever.So I said it's a new chapter.
02:20What's next for me?What's this all about? Why aren't you just shutting up?and telling me the AI news. Well, that's because I've started something new. I recently started a newrole at OpenAI, and I'm very excited about it. So what's next for this podcast then? Because youmight be saying, well, if you just started a new full-time role, well, who's going to be showing up hereand, you know, sorting through all this AI news for me and, you know, doing demos and all these things. AndWell, to answer that question, I don't know yet.
02:58All right. But I wanted to bring you along the journey with me as I figure out what the heck is next for this everyday AI thing.I've been talking with some amazing media event and tech companies over the last few weeks about potentially taking the show over. And I hope to hand it over to a group that values your time as much as I have.right? And if you have listened to the show, whether it's, you know, you're kind of new here or, you know, I still get messages all the time. It's like, hey, I've listened to every single episode. One thing I've always tried very hard to do through the last roughly four years is to hear from you. Not just like, hey, what type of shows do you like? What do you not like? But where are you keeping up with AI and where are you not? And as I've talked about, you know, with a dozen or more potential.groups about maybe taking over the day to day of everyday AI. I've been very intentional aboutfinding the right fit for someone that values your time and can understand where you are andyour challenges and who knows what's happening in this space. That's so important, right? I don't
04:16take for granted those of you that have tuned in over the years and have trusted me, right? Andagain, some of the messages are wild that I've received, right?I've received literal cold DMs from C-suite people at Fortune 500 companies said, hey, I was going to, you know, go down this route, you know, heard you say something in the podcast. It was really well researched. We checked it out ourselves. You were right. Thanks for, you know, being ahead of the curve, right?
04:43So I've spent so, so much time to hopefully earn your trust, not just to, you know, grow thepodcast. That's not what it was about. It was about I knew before I started this, that this AI thing, right? I knew it from when we started using it two years beforeChad ChbT came out. I'm like, this stuff, it's, it's really powerful, but it's confusing. If you don't spend the time to actually think to research and to test. And I know that not everyonehas that time to do that every single day. So that's why it's been really important to mewhen talking with companies to really find someone, number one, that I trust can do a great job,but also that you can trust to help you navigate the, you know, the crazy world ahead.
05:35Because as we all know, AI, even though I've technically, quote unquote, have taken a break from the show for a couple of weeksas we've brought you some back to back to back to back banger episodes, right? But it just doesn't stop, right?Yeah, it doesn't stop. It's only getting faster. It's only getting more capable. The model drops are only getting, you know, more and more frequent. So it's really important that I find someone.
06:02So you might be asking why, right? Why, you know, why take a full-time role somewhere else?Well, if I'm being honest,I started every day AI, I didn't know how long it was going to last.Right.I still remember when I started it.I told my wife and one of my good friends on a road trip. And they're like, you might be crazy.
06:31Maybe I was.But I didn't know when I started this.If I was going to do it for a couple months or a decade.Right.But I didn't start this thing to be a full-time podcaster.right. I told the story maybe once or twice before. I was a former journalist. So I actually started the podcast so that I could put out a daily newsletter. I love writing. I love reading. I love consuming information, right? Since I was a little kid. I've loved technology. I remember back, you know, as a teenager, building my own computers and buying my first computer and, you know, building websites like very early in the 90s, right? So I've always been kind of like a geek. And then, you know, I was a journalist.and, you know, I worked in marketing.I worked at a nonprofit.
07:16So it seemed to me like, you know, going back to 2020,when I started everyday AI,it seemed to be this kind of like no-brainer culminationof all my different skills. Before ChatGPT came out, I understood the AI technologybecause OpenAI had released the GPT technologyto other third parties. And my marketing company I started,
07:37we used all of them every day.So when ChatGPT came out,I understood.it. And so many people were asking me about it and saying like, hey, Jordan, I know you use all thesetools. Like, can you help me? Right. And so after enough people had asked me about that, I'm like,oh, okay, well, there's something here. And that's when I just started or that's when I decided tostart everyday AI, the unedited, unscripted, live streamed podcast and newsletter, right? But I didn't think the podcast was going to be the popular thing. I just started the podcast.
08:10So in the newsletter, there would be something unique to write a.about every single day because the few AI newsletters I was listening to or the few AI newslettersI was reading. They were all kind of the same. And I was trying to learn AI a little bit more backin, you know, 2021, 2022. And all the podcasts seemed like they were for people with machine learningbackgrounds. And I'm like, where's the, you know, four dummies version, right? Where's the foureveryday people version of this? So when I started this, I started at number one.for myself.Number two, for the people around me.
08:46But number three, I had a firm belief. You know, even in 2020, 2020, 2021, that whatever this technology would become would eventuallyreshape the business world. And I think it's safe to say that, yes, we are far past that now. But, you know, when I started it, my goal was simple.I just wanted to make AI easy to understand. And I wanted to help as many people.as possible. So that goal is the same. But I think that right now, Open AI actually just gives me
09:21the best platform to continue to do that. Right. I'm not the best person to grow a podcast in a mediacompany, even though I was a journalist, even though I'm in marketing. It's not what I necessarilythink I'm for. I want to find the way to continue to make AI simple, to understand for as manypeople as possible. That was my original personal goal. It's still my original personal goal asin my new full-time role. All right. So blah, blah, blah, Jordan, big deal. No one cares.Who's going to tell me about what's happening in AI? And what does that mean for this actual podcastwhen I go to listen tomorrow? Well, probably nothing's going to be there. All right. So I'm going tobe working on onboarding the right group to continue to bring you unbiased and authentic takes on the
10:12world of AI. All right. So there's going to be a temporary, very likely, a temporary pause in publishingas I get hopefully a new group started and ramped up. All right. So there will be a temporarypause in publishing, whether that's a week or two or maybe a few months. I'm not sure. Soif you haven't already, make sure if you're listening on Spotify, if you're listening onApple Podcasts or maybe you're listening on LinkedIn, I don't.know, but make sure you subscribe to the show, okay, if you haven't already. And then, so then when the show does come back, whether it's in a couple days, couple weeks, couple months, you're going to know right away.
10:55But also make sure that you follow me on LinkedIn on Twitter because once the showis back up and running, I'm going to be announcing it there. So thank you, right? It won't be the last time you hear from me.But to the millions of you that listen to me ramble, thanks, you know, to the business leaders, reading our newsletter, live stream, community.Appreciate it.To our amazing partners and sponsors over the years who entrusted me to help tell your story, I appreciate that.To all my friends, family, and my wife for the belief and support.
11:36My gosh, what a crazy idea. You know, when no one had really heard.of AI for, you know, people to believe in me and support me, you know, and then to be in theposition I am now.Thank you. That's all I can say.So, like I said, shortest episode ever.I'm not signing off for good.
12:03This isn't a goodbye. This is to see you soon.So thank you for tuning in.Hope you tune back in next time for more Everyday AI.Thanks, y'all.Thank you.
