02:56 We're back. for another episode. Welcome to episode 202, or just episode 2, as you may know it, but here in the biz, for those you don't know, they put the season first and then the number.
03:11 So this would be 202. Of round two of scrubs. Of the revival of the television show of scrubs. Sarah Chalk is back. Thundress applause, Joelle, for Sarah Chalk. Thanks for having me again. Should we take a moment to acknowledge how little technological
03:27 difficulties I had getting on today onto the podcast. Unlike the past. That's not true. And you had a hard time. And you had a hard time. Okay, yeah, that's true. That's true.
03:39 Not only could you not put your earpiece in, but it's in wrong. I can see the wire coming down to your shoulder. You've got to be more of a TV anchor and hide that shit. And we don't need to let everybody else know this so we won't tell them. But there are two of them. And I did have to ask Todd, which one? Yes. To put that behind your chair.
03:53 And then put that behind your chair over it like you did last time. And then it pretends. and nobody at home knows that we're wearing ear pieces. I was saying before we started everybody that I always think it's so cool. And the musicians, they get frustrated and they have to pull out their in-ear. And I just thought that was always so cool. I've always wanted to be a musician who could get frustrated and pull out my in-ear because I just, fuck it. I'll do it without the in-ear.
04:15 Because you want to field a notes? You know what? No, the mix is wrong. And they keep playing, but they're mad. Like, I always dreamed of being able to do that. And now that I'm on a podcast with an in-ear, I can do that. So that's what it's called. It's called an in-ear?
04:26 because it goes in your ear. Yeah, why do you think it's called it? Sarah. Sarah, come up with some reasons why it might be called it in ear. 12, can you tell me the origin of in ear? Google it. She's going to Google it.
04:40 I'm out of here. I'm out here. Oh, she's mad. She's going to Google it. Sorry, didn't it feel cool? Didn't it feel cool to be able to rip out your in ear? It's just good wearing an in ear because, as you guys know, I wish I was a singer and they wear ear.
04:50 Do you think singers sometimes do that just because they just think it looks cool? Or are they really mad about them? I think they're trying to be dramatic. Like, yo, I'm going to sing for y'all. And it's going to come from the heart. I don't need to hear what's coming out. I'm going to give y'all the raw, real me without correction. Right.
05:10 But I think that sometimes singers do it to be dramatic. And I think it's cool. I fall for it every time. Like, they just want to sing raw without the, without the any. Like, when they do that shit, I'm like, well, why'd you have it in the first place? Right. Right. You're right.
05:24 Because they know they've used it a lot of times. so then maybe it is for dramatic effect. Sorry, that blue shirt makes your eyes very blue. I wanted to comment right off the bat. That's another thing we learned from the school of Bill Lawrence. Why? Because Bill Lawrence always wears piercingly blue shirts because he has mega blue eyes.
05:39 Yeah, he does a blue shirt. That's right. That's why blue is his color. He also wears blue suits because of it then. Yes. Well, welcome to 202, everybody. We, oh, sorry, Tom. 5, 6, 7, 8.
05:50 Yes, on stories about a show we made. About a bunch of. And we're back. And a Canada who love me. I said he's our stories. Nephalls should... And we're back.
06:20 Okay. Okay. A two opens up with Cox and J.D. walking. And Cox says, you need to get a mentor, dude. I didn't just bring you back here to become an administrator. You got to find
06:34 an intern. Look at how Elliot and Turk have found their people. Yes. And Turk is with Deshanna. And they do a nice little spin and Elliot is with Tosh and they spill IV bag all over
06:50 what's that gentleman's name who is our 90s kids for life yes over 90s kids for life who has come and hung out on set and done some great follow guys 90s Kids for Life on Instagram he has a really fun Instagram if you're
07:06 a 90s kid like I guess we were but also you know he's promoting the show big time and he to come and hang out with us and we truly appreciate. Yeah, he got a cameo. He got a cameo out of it. He played the nurse that we spray fluid all of her. And his acting was good.
07:22 He was great. He reacted right. He's in the trailer. Yeah, he made it to the trailer. We should say that Mimi, the nurse, has been introduced here. And her first thing is we see she might have a little crush on Turk because she sniffs him. Yes.
07:35 She worships Turk. It's really funny. That spin, by the way, Donald, you and Deshanna? I fell out of my spin. Amanda did not fall out of her spin, I noticed. Yes, she did not. Amanda did not. I fell out of my spin because I'm not used to spinning twice.
07:52 Yes, she is. You know, we're going to get into the suturing here, but it just led me to right off the bat. Amanda took the suturing in this episode of those bananas so seriously that we have an onset nurse, who's our consultant. And she said Amanda has been practicing so hard that she's legit doing a professional-grade suture on these bananas. I was not doing a perfect. And I said, how's Donald doing? And she said, Donald won't come see me.
08:23 But still, in the banana suturing scene, Donald, and the not tying, very professional. Well, he's cut together. But I want the audience to know that whereas Donald is cut together, Amanda is literally doing professional-grade sutures on those bananas. Here, take these bananas. take these bananas. I just I
08:44 don't know I can't hear the word bananas without going into Beverly Hills cop well the buffet is
08:52 okay you take these bananas damon way was that Damon Wayne's was that Damon Wayne's first part I don't know if it was his first part but that was one of the
09:02 funniest things I ever saw my life and he just riffed that shit absolutely the two of them together I missed those days man why can't that happen anymore what
09:10 I wish all of the freaking funny people would do stuff together still. You know what I mean? It's like when everybody became funny, everybody kind of split off, you know what I mean? It was like, I'm funny here and I'm funny here and I'm funny here. Yeah, but Damon Waynes was an unknown comic,
09:23 and all of a sudden they gave him a cameo and he stole the scene. You take these bananas. I wish it was like that for everybody. I wish if I had the heat and you had the heat, it's sort of like when Schwarzenegger and Stallone were at their height, right? Why couldn't they do a movie together back then? Why do we have to wait for so long for the expendables to come out? Do you watch the expendables?
09:45 I do not. I didn't think you did. All right. The barbershop thing, that was a lot of fun. That is one of the best parts of the episode. Tell us about the different versions because you had a couple different songs that were hard to pick between. Well, yeah. Well, we did a version of Mr. Sandman because that was funny.
10:02 And it was very funny. They were both very funny. By the way, it got cut out a little bit, the different JD's what they're supposed to be. There's, like, sensitive JD. There's Dr. J.D. There's romantic, JD. And then there's dad with a beer belly Boy Scout leader, J.D. So those are all different parts of his personality.
10:26 And the sensitive one, Joelle, has a puka shells on. I don't know if he'd clock that. I did notice that. How did we get Boy Scout? Well, because it got cut, but it was explained, like, I'm a father. I'm involved with a relationship and a romantic relationship. I'm a dreamer. I'm a doctor.
10:49 I would need like four of me. It's so good. I'm so happy that you guys went with what you did for the song. I mean, it's amazing. Well, when we looked at them both, we were like, first of all, it was really hard to get the rights to the Law & Order thing because we had to go through so many engagements. to get the rights to that thing.
11:12 And then after we got that, we couldn't figure out who was going to give us the rights to the sentences before, like in the criminal justice system, it made up of those sentences that lead up to the thing. Like those were owned by Dick Wolf, I assume, but a separate entity. So like it took up until the very last second. So we almost had to switch it back to Mr. Samman.
11:32 But when we looked at them both, they're both funny, but it's just so random that if JD has decided that if he had four of him, their very first thing they would be a barbershop quartet and do the law and order theme song. I love when the dreamer goes, bam, bown,
11:50 bown, bown, bown. So good. By the way, you can't even see the full costume. I've got like 90s wide jeans on. Amazing. Shout out to everyone who worked on that. And Michael Spiller, who directed this episode,
12:05 who figured out how to do that, which it was complicated to do, that and it comes up later in the tag and he did a great job with all that we should talk about Dustin because this is the only time that we're ever going to see this kid it feels like we don't know but we don't know that but so far yes uh Dustin is JD and a younger form and a dreamer a dreamer who has voiceovers in his head and is in the hospital and JD pushes him aside like he's a Frickin. Well, it's funny.
12:37 He's in the way. Well, it's funny because, like, if you think about your younger self, right, they would probably annoy the fuck out of you. Absolutely. Yeah. So he sees someone who's exactly him. And he's like, oh, get out of here. And I think J.D.
12:52 probably sees himself as being a lot cooler. He's going to hang with John Higgins. Exactly. Let's talk about John Higgins, who's so fucking good. Yeah. He's the perfect mentee. It's the perfect foil for J.D. Grant Summers.
13:06 And like the second John came in and we're at that first table read, the way he reads every single line, I can't, if I'm in a scene with him, I can't keep a straight face. He's killing it. John is so funny. We're going to have him as a guest on the podcast. And I got to give a shout out to Bill Lawrence. This was all him. He really loves John and believed in John. And I knew John from S&L, but I didn't, I hadn't seen his work as an actor outside of sketch.
13:33 and he's so funny and it was also Bill's idea that you know we wanted more conflict for JD this season that you introduce someone that is a needle in his, a thorn in his side from underneath them, you know? Because, you know, Cox had JD driving him crazy.
13:54 Well, what kind of person would drive JD crazy? You know? Yeah, that first scene when you just like, can't help but grab his cheek. He does have great cheeks. It's great cheeks. It's the writers writing the truth. He has great cheeks.
14:06 They're all, but, you know, let's talk about all of the interns. That's something we haven't really talked about. We have Amanda, we have Layla, we have David, we have Jacob and Ava. Yeah. Ava's been moved up to series regular on the show, which is amazing. I really do love her storyline in this episode, by the way. I think it's, you know, if this is a way to introduce a regular on the show, it's great.
14:36 You know, I personally feel like, because I want her to find her path and everything like that, and the fact that she's being sea-blocked by her mentor is nuts to me. You know what I mean? I think, me personally, Ava's character plays so great for pediatrics, and it would be such a great...
15:01 If my kid had somebody that funny, checking up on them all the time and making them feel comfortable, I would be ecstatic. Not that they have a bad pediatrician right now. Dr. Sammy, you are amazing. But. Sarah, no phone's on set. It's on airplane mode. It's a perfect time for me to tell the audience that I have. In the middle of my story.
15:24 By the way, this is the perfect time of Joelle. In the middle of my story, Joelle. Joelle, I am the policeman on set. We have a rule. No phones on set. You can keep it in your chair. You can keep it like off the set we're shooting on. Both these two, constantly on their phone.
15:39 That's not true. That is not a liar. You are a liar. Joel, don't believe a word. Do not believe a word. Sometimes a part of my role is they're trying to get more behind the scenes. I have kids. I need to blah, blah, blah.
15:51 I know you fucking lying right now, Brody me, Doty. Here's the real, Joel. Is that I. Joel's like the person we're telling them. Yeah, Joel. Drop, drop, drop, drop, drop. I'm trying to take more photos and get more behind the scenes because we didn't have enough last season,
16:07 so sometimes maybe I should buy a real camera so that you know that I'm not using it as a telephone. Yeah, anyway, no phone's on set. The interns are amazing, all of them. And I'm really happy that we're following Tosh in this episode. I think her storyline is something that a lot of young doctors are going through when they first start, you know, what am I going to do? What's my specialty going to be?
16:29 You know, you go to college and you pick out your major and your major, you know, you're deciding, you know, I'm going to the medical field. But the medical field is so broad. And there's so many different things you can become in the medical field, whether it be pediatrician, a surgeon, you know, ER doctor. Regardless, it's a broad field. And that can be intimidating, you know. When you become an actor, it's two things. You're either going to be a character actor or lead. You know what I mean?
17:00 That's not true. What else is there? You can get more into comedy, more into drama. I mean, we became known as comedians. We both like to, would aspire to do more drama. But if you're a character actor, you're labeled as a character actor for the rest of your career, no matter what it is you do. You can be Matthew Reese who wins an Emmy for comedy and drama. How about Matthew Reese fucking pulling it out.
17:23 All of those times we hung out back in the day, I know you was like that, though. You were friends in Matthew Reese? Dude, we used to kick it. So back in the day, he used to hang out with this cat, Dave Annabelle. I don't know if they're still best friends, but they did a show together. And Dave and I, we ran in the same circle at one point. They've since moved, him and his wife have since moved to Austin, Texas. But Matthew Reese used to come and hang out with Dave every now and then.
17:49 This is a long story about how you met Matthew Reese once? I didn't meet him once. I used to hang out with him. We used to tell jokes to each other. And I had no clue that this fucker was this talented. I knew he was married to Carrie, who was on our show. Yes, who was on Scrubs as a J.D. Love Entress. I knew that, but I had no clue that this dude was this talented.
18:10 And so after we stopped hanging out, this motherfucker starts winning award after award. Maybe it's because he stopped hanging out with you. You can say it's a focus on his year. Juel. Mix and five, y'all. How great was that guy's run this year, huh? Incredible. I watched both, obviously. I voted for him for both. But I never thought he'd win both, but he won both. That made history. Made history, Joelle. All right, let's get in. He's my friend. And Donald's BFF. You know, I like that we got it with Turk and his glasses because this is a real thing with Donald. As you can see, he's wearing his glasses. He's never worn glasses before. When Donald put on glasses for the first time, he realized how truly blind he had been for many years. We learned this last year while we were filming the show.
18:55 actually. I didn't know what you weren't seeing. What I wasn't seeing. Like, literally. And I remember I get the glasses, and at first they were reading glasses, and the reading glasses changed everything first. Like, oh, snap, I can see the words on the paper
19:10 and everything like that. But then I went to my kid plays basketball, so I went to one of his games, and I couldn't see the kids' faces on the court. They looked like a dream. You know how in your dreams, everybody's face is blurry and everything? It looked like that.
19:24 And I was like, this is not good. and I put on glasses and I could see everybody's faces really well and I was like, oh shit I've been blind for a really long time. So now when you're doing, why not incorporate them into your character on Scrubs? They could give you non-reflective
19:40 special lenses for them. I mean, we're trying to do it in this episode, kind of. Right, we tease you about it. It's a classic thing on Scrubs where something happens in your real life and then it gets worked into the show. So Donald actually needing glasses
19:53 has been worked into the show. My moment that I discovered that I need them, which I still have to get them, was when Zach and Donald and I were doing an internal event for ABC where we were speaking to many, many, many, many, many people. And the teleprompter was very, very, very, very far away. We had a lot of wordy things to say. Oh, shit. And I looked up and it was really far.
20:11 I was like, oh, this is the moment. Sarah. When I discovered that I needed some glasses. Sarah. Yeah. Sarah, that happened to me. I was doing a freaking award show with Abigail Spencer, your buddy. Our mutual lover.
20:22 Yes. Penny just farted. Why would you blame it on Penny? Do not blame your father. Why does he let's ask you well. Whose Mike picked that up? Sarah. Sarah.
20:34 Do not blame it on the dog. If it was me, I wouldn't have told it out. If it was me, I was like, luckily nobody noticed. Penny's farts are not usually audible. They just arrive in your nose. I wouldn't be embarrassed if it was me. I'd be fine with it. That's not true.
20:46 I would be fine with it. You'd be very embarrassed. I would be fine with it. You have been twice on the OG eight-year run, Jewell. You farted twice on the OG's drugs? I'd be fine. I've never known about this. Go on. You don't want to talk about that?
20:56 Go on. And eight years of filming, you remember farting only twice? Because maybe, what things do you remember? You remember things that were traumatic. One of them was in the scene with Zach, and it was right as we were rolling. And he was the only one that heard. I was like, don't say, don't say anything. You don't say anything.
21:11 He makes such a meal that announces it. And then they played at the gag reel. It was in the gag reel. Could you hear your fart in the gaggle? No, you just hear your reaction to it, this giant reaction. It would be funny if you could hear your fart in the gagger. No, but like nobody needed to know, and then it was just amazing that it was like all the heads of all the networks that were at the
21:32 rap party. Anyways, Penny. You can fart. Let's get back on topic from Sarah's Farts. I could not see the teleprompter that day, and I was like, I need glasses. That was the first thing. Well, you guys were lucky to have made it this old and not need glasses. Ava, excuse me, Tosh and Jacob are joking about Harry Potter.
21:50 Now, I thought this was adorable, but I don't know anything about Harry Potter. So I didn't even, like, we were riffing, the writers were helping them riff all these Harry Potter jokes. And I was laughing because they were cute together, but I didn't get any of the Harry Potter jokes. Jacob don't know none about Harry Potter. He's British. No, I didn't know anything about it. And I don't, I'm sure there are British people who don't know anything about Harry Potter. You think it's like a real? It's their Star Wars.
22:11 Harry Potter is their Star Wars. They had so many funny alts on that. There were a lot of alts. That's what we need for Hulu is the alts of all the Harry Potter stuff. Right, but I'm giggling because they were just cute together, but I'm like, I have no idea. Even when she's like, when he's like, Dobby, like to you. I have no idea who Dobby is.
22:27 You don't know who Dobby is? I've never seen any of those movies or read any of that stuff. Oh, you've got to read it. Okay, anyway. All right, anyway. But there were lots of alts and there were lots of alts for the, oh my God. For Jeff and the bike.
22:36 I laughed out loud every time when, when, and I'm not just saying this because I think it may have been my joke, but it is very funny. Your boyfriend jumped the quarry and they never found his body. They only found his head because it had a helmet on it. It makes no sense. The helmet saved his head.
22:57 The helmet saved his head, but they never found his body. That was your life. That was a joke. That's one of those jokes I made up because it just made me laugh, but when you think about it, it makes no sense. He's decapitated. He got decaditated, but where's the body? It's clearly in the quarry somewhere.
23:12 But they never found it. They never found it. The other version of it was. They didn't spend a lot of time searching the quarry. No. They didn't. Clearly. Because it's a body.
23:21 It's not like an infinite quarry. You can find a body. Yeah. And it's not a swamp, but it's a quarry. And how do you get decapitated jumping the quarry? Like, what happened? Yeah, on the way. The other old, I think, was the helmet saved his life, but it did not save his face.
23:40 And then that implication, you left him because you didn't like his face anymore. Yes, yes. I like it better that he died, and that's the reason why you guys broke up. I like it better that they just could never find his body. up searching for his body, but they were able to find his head because it had a helmet on. We know he went down here because here's his head. So put a helmet on your career. Yeah, put a helmet on.

28:17 Tell your parents to stop clicking on links, please. And now you can catch full episodes of my show on YouTube. If there's a scam, I'm here to protect you. And I'm also here to laugh with you. So if you like fun, if you like comedy, and you like learning and protecting yourself from criminals, start listening to Scam goddess on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. All right, J.D. is very upset about the lack of Twinkle in his portrait. That was such a good theme.
28:53 I'm trying to keep us on time like a good host. It's okay. Let's talk about the twinkle. Did you laugh at the twinkle? I did laugh at the twinkle because that's something that I feel like you would do. You would be like, wait, hold on, time out. Me or JD? You too.
29:06 Oh, my God. I feel like if somebody took a picture and you didn't like it, you'd be like, yo, dude, have you never taken a picture before? I think these are words that have come out your mouth before. Imagine someone painted a portrait of you and it's supposed to be hung up on the wall of the hospital. And there was no twinkle. And there was no twinkle. And there was no twinkle.
29:23 Well, what would you do if those are... You said, well, I like it. It is nice. If I had dead eyes. If I had dead eyes. And then you're doing yourself. And I love the beat to where you stomp all over. By the way, J.D. is going to go do it in the bathroom mirror with himself.
29:41 Yeah. Capture the twink. By the way, I love how many... But now, we ended up with like 25 portraits of me. And I kept asking Shiva, who's one of our... Someone in our AD department, if she wanted one, to take one home. And she said, no, she said, I really don't want one. And I was like, come on, Shiva, this would look beautiful in your house.
29:58 And she's like, I'll give it to my parents. My parents hang up anything. I think Shiva's parents have a portrait of me hanging in their house. I would love to see Sid picked portrait in their house. All right. So, J.D. No Twinkle. Love how. Oh, Higgins.
30:17 I laugh so hard. When I introduced John Higgins' character to Cox, I laugh and I'm like, do you want to be Grandpa, Pappy or Pappap? And Hagan's under his breath, goes, I'm just, any, any, any, any, he like, messes the wording up on purpose. It's so funny. He goes, I'm going to call him Dr. Cox. And, or he goes, I'm just going to call him Dr. Cox. I laugh every time he does that.
30:39 I laugh at you calling him your grand mentor for some reason. As he's grand mentor, do you want to call him? I don't know why that's funny to me, but that made me laugh every time. I also laugh every time in that scene when Higgins says, Cox, do you ever say just one word and then stop? By the way, Johnny C, I think, really is so in character that he, like, didn't like that. Like, because it's, like, the first person who's underneath him to, like, speak up to him. And I can remember feeling on the day, like, Johnny was like, not that he was being rude to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, hegan's in any way.
31:12 But he was in character, certainly not liking that. I get, yeah. That's amazing. Whenever, when, when, well, I get, I get, I get nervous whenever, and it is a character thing. I get nervous whenever something bad or anything like that is said to Cox on the show. I think what it is is that we as actors are nervous because there's overlap between Cox and Johnny, and we grew up with him as our mentor and an intense older figure. So I don't know, do we just, we normally have this response like, oh shit, Cox slash Johnny isn't going to like that.
31:49 Is he going to like that? Because there's an episode coming up, no spoilers, where he has to kiss somebody's ass who's being horrible to him. And Johnny, like, did not like it. No, I could tell he did not like it. And I'm sitting there like, this is where he blows. This is where he's going to blow up if he never does. Yeah. Okay, okay.
32:16 Michael James Scott and his Barry White voice in that next scene. Like, I could watch a whole show of that. Let's talk about Michael James Scott. Let's just talk about Michael James Scott. Let's just get into it. So Michael James Scott's a Broadway star. He's been a Broadway star for many a years. And I didn't not know this about the man,
32:36 but he's one of the original castmates of Book of Mormon. Yeah. He was the genie in Aladdin for 10 years. 20 years. 10 years. Not 20 years. 20 years. It hasn't been on 20 years.
32:47 Come on. Sarah. It was like 100 years. He was the cheating for us. Ten sounds more right. Ten is right. Ten is correct. He did it for ten years on Broadway.
32:58 Joel, could you fact-check this? Yes, I'm on. I'm on. Can you fact-check? Because we want to make sure we prove Sarah wrong. But Michael's a wonderful talent, and man, is he funny? And he's just the best guy to be around. He is, man.
33:10 There's just his spirit. He comes on his set. He's so positive. He's so silly. We all just start laughing the second he's in the room. Yeah, he's one of the only other male other than Zach and my family and stuff like that, that he's one of the only people that I think about outside of work.
33:28 I think about Sarah, I think about you, you know what I mean. But Michael James Scott is now one of my favorite people on this planet. And we have the funny, and Michael and Donald and I have the craziest DM chat going on Instagram. They won't let me in it. Sarah's not allowed in it. They want to let me in it. It's a secret club. It's a secret club.
33:46 No, girls allow. Gatekeeping. It's not. It's not that there's no girls allowed. It's just that we form the group with the three of us. And also, we both like outrageous humor, and we don't think Sarah could handle the memes that are getting funny. Oh, wait, hold on now.
34:00 I disagree with that. Sarah could totally handle it. I just wouldn't want to expose myself to having that type of mind. That's what it boils down to. And now I'm intrigued. But the same shit makes me, Donald, and Michael James Scott laugh. And so we have a very funny DM thread going. Yes, Sarah.
34:17 I call on you. He has been such an incredible addition. He's one of those people that, like, makes every day better. He makes the hair and makeup trailer better. He dances between the trailer and set. He's, like, constantly, he comes out with us on all the weekends. He, um, every... Always looks good.
34:36 Always looks good. Oh, his outfits are on the point. His fashion sense is insane. We go to dinner, Joelle, and we're all just, like, in, like, just, like, dressed like this. And Michael comes in a fit. Hats. big hat and like he looks like he's going to an award show. And like a vintage bag.
34:53 Yeah, he walked in one time and looked like a sailor. I was like, is it a sailor theme? He was like, yeah. Michael James Scott and I have been plotting theme nights for these dinners. We have a very long list. Really? Yeah, one of them is denim and diamonds. Okay.
35:08 Yes. We have such a list. There's some retro ones. He's just one of these people. He just lights up the room. And he's always funny. And I'm just so glad he's on our show. I love him.
35:18 He this past week made one of my dreams come true. As we all know, I just like choreographed dance numbers. And he was like, let's do this TikTok trend. It's a choreographed dance. And I was like, Michael, just when I thought, I could not love you more. And then we've since talked and we've decided to do more of those. And then he sent out to everyone their part, videos of their part in the TikTok dance. Yes.
35:40 He did. He did all the parts. And then he put it all together on the day up. And he was like, you do this. You're here. You're here. And we're going to do another one. and Gridley actually just sent me a new TikTok trend dance that we're going to, you'll be receiving it shortly.
35:53 Okay, I'm ready. All right. Let's get back on point. I laughed so. Two things, Julie, I'm so sorry. Michael had 4,000 performances across 12 years and multiple global productions for the genie. And he also had my favorite line in this episode, which is her gay d'ar set to church more. Yes.
36:10 Yes. So funny. Her gay d'ar set to church morning. And then, Joelle, how funny when Van Gogh. Vanessa's like, it's not going to work. And he goes, oh, it's going to work. And then she says, kiss me on my mouth. Kiss me on my mouth, you beautiful ballpastor.
36:28 And then when he goes over to hit on the woman, I go, easy, don't over straight. And then he got his arms up. And then you cut to him like shooting game. What did he say there? Hey, Babs, let me holler. Hey, Babs. Let me holl at you for a second. By the way, Donald was giving him some strut.
36:47 lessons. I didn't have to give him struggle. He hit that strike. He did it right. Well, you were joking. You were joking, obviously. But they were having a, they were having a funny bit where Donald's like, let me show you how I strut if I was going to hit up some woman. By the way, it is really funny. And as we get further in the season, the friendship between Turk and Nurse Tubaa is really funny. We just did a, in this episode we're shooting now, you two together is hilarious. I'm really enjoying you. together. He makes me... It's so good. I mean, come on, man. This is something that we all wanted. We wanted to make sure that when we came back, that the characters that we introduced were fun and that we had a great time with them. And Michael, Ava, John, Amanda, Leila, David, Jacob,
37:38 Vanessa, all of these guys came to play. And because of that, it's just been a blast. And, you know, yeah, you're right. man Mike when I'm working with him I have such a great time yeah because I can sit there and I can watch him and enjoy his performance yeah and then you you know everybody else yeah and he want to have me oh she was too busy to come back oh she was amazing she was so funny ex we love you we miss you X all right let's get into um I want to get into uh so kiss me on my mouth people blah bastard and uh doing over straight oh the flavor flave uh we have flavor slave that was awesome okay we got I have a bunch of stories of this day because I've known Flav. Oh, yeah, you gotta tell the story about how he thought you were phase on love. Yes, I've known Flav. We've hung out with Flavs. Tell the story. I'm gonna tell him now.
38:27 I'm excited, sorry. We hung out with him. We went to, we were in Vegas like two years ago for the T-Mobile race, the race that they had. F-1. F-1 race. And Flav was there and we hung out with Flav there and everything like that. And so we here, we write the show, we have him in the show. And we're like, Flav's going to do it.
38:48 I'm like, so excited. And Flav, it gets back to us. Flav's so excited. But he's really excited to see you, Donald. And I was like, what? Yeah. My dream has come true because I don't know if you know this. Flav of Flavis is one of the, you know,
39:03 he's one of the most iconic rappers in the history of rap. You know, public enemy when I was a kid was the shit. You know what I mean? And him and Chuck D used to do it big. Anyway, I get to say, set early and when I arrive Kim, who's one of the ADs at Circus, which is the
39:25 base camp, says somebody's really excited to see you. And I'm like, who? And she goes, Flava Flay Donald. And I'm like, oh, awesome. And Donald's feeling himself. I'm like, I'm going to go say what's up to him. Yeah. And he struts over just like Dubois did in that scene. I knock on the trailer door
39:43 and I hear, come in and I come in and I'm like, Flay, Flav is the son, public enemy number one. And he looks up and goes, who are you? And I go, oh, my name is Donald. He goes, Donald, Donald, what? And I said, Donald Fazon. He goes, see, man.
40:05 They told me Faison love was going to be in this show. No. No, that's not what he says. He goes, see, man, they told me Donald. No, he goes, what's your name? And I go Donald. And he goes, see, man, they told me Donald Faison was going to be in the show. And I go, Flav.
40:27 I'm Donald Faison. And he goes, no, man, you know, the big Faison, the big Donald Faison. I'm talking about Faison, big Donald Faison. I'm like, Faison love. He goes, yes, Faison love. That's why he came to do the show because he wanted to hang out with Faison love. And this is the time Fajon love was in jail. I'm like, that motherfucker's in jail right now,
40:54 he's not available. He's not tech avail. He's not tech avail. So if you're going to do a show with a Faison, it's got to be this one. I'm the only one available right now. But then he begrudgingly came to work on set. He came to work on set. But then I think someone had spoken to him.
41:10 No, he saw me in the green scrubs. He goes, that's you. That's Donald Faison. Oh, yeah. And I was like, okay, whatever. Donald, your line reading of let me guess my father time is Flav of Flav is so good. Thank you.
41:25 Well, Flavor Flav is in all honesty. You know, one of the only people that I know that wore a clock his whole career and the reason why is to tell everybody he knows what time it is. That's the reason behind it? Yeah, and it's a term. Like, I know what time it is meaning I'm not blind to all of the bullshit that's out there. I know what time it is. Right.
41:46 And that was the reason he started doing it. The clock, yeah. All right. And then J.D. is saying, it's not. And he is definitely not wearing a clock. It was an older white gentleman. Not wearing a clock coat down. All right.
41:59 Getting on to B. Dubois, now P.F. Chang's, we learn, is the horniest restaurant in town. But why did Dubois want to go to P.F. Chang's in the first? So that's why he wanted to go there in the first episode. Well, in episode one, we learned that he likes it. And if you get a gift certificate for telling on the kids, hooking up, he's going to turn him in if he gets a P.F. Chang's. Now, I imagine Barbara says, do you want to go to dinner? And he's trying to help out J.D., so he's like, yeah, if it's
42:27 P.F. Chang's. But it's the horniest place in town. Because he's going to do what needs to be done. That's what J.D. says. By the way, that's so funny. When Grant goes, whatever, I figure what Grant says, but J.D. goes, he'll do what needs to be done. Yeah. To try and get him. He'll do it needs to be done. Meaning anything with Barbara. All right, J.D. really likes those cheeks. He's back trying to touch him. We should talk about the bananas.
42:57 Yeah, bananas was a tricky thing to cut. And I, you know, it was a tricky assignment for our director, Michael Spiller, because what you have is just two people suturing bananas, and you need to make it look like a boxing match, rocky fight. And Spiller did his best. We did our best in editorial. You know, it's hard to add action and excitement to what is just two people doing this. But I do think that ultimately we did a good job.
43:25 Well, I agree with you. What we shot was not what you guys see, which is very odd to say because definitely what we shot you guys are seeing. But in context, it was something completely different. Well, here's the problem. In the script, the joke was that they do it so long that Turk's blood, that Turk has to pee. because he's a 51-year-old man. Because he's old. And he runs, and his bladder runs out.
43:49 The problem was that in the edit, we realized, well, Turk's a surgeon. He can obviously go hours without needing to pee. And so we had all made a tiny mistake in executing it, and there was no ticking clock. The thing needed a quick ticking clock for a race. And so that's why over the head of the banana shot, we add an ADR line in post of Donald going, first one to 20 bananas wins. Now all of a sudden you have a ticking clock for the thing and it's got a rhythm to it before it didn't have that.
44:20 So then we ended up having, well, there's no exit for Turk because he used to have to pee and he runs out and she won. So we had to sort of fabricate what you see. And so because of that and because of all the footage, thankfully that Mike Spiller shot, we are able to tell the story of the banana and how it's and how Deshanna is a faster suture than Turkey. clearly because of all of the footage.
44:47 Now, that being said, it also changed what we shot later on between Turk and DeShana because we shot all of the stuff about him having to pee and all of that stuff. And that stuff had to go now because that's no longer in the story. And it changes the editing. And it makes... This is one of those things where it's like...
45:06 Even after the show is done, the show's not done until it's finally... until the final edit, because the story can still change somewhere in that. You know what I mean? And to be someone who can, I would never have been able to see that. I would have never been able to see, okay, well, we're going to, I would have just cut the whole banana shit completely. But you guys found a way to.
45:30 There was talk of that, but that would have required a reshoot. And we were trying, because our schedule is so crazy, we were like, how can we salvage this without reshooting anything? It was still interesting. It's interesting for fans to know Dr. really do do that. They do practice on bananas. You know, obviously it's a comedy. So having a race between two people is a sort of a comedic thing. But I think the concept was cool. We just didn't, in the script, we didn't realize without this having a quick race to it, it's going to be too
46:03 slow. And so we had to sort of fabricate that. And then, of course, it affected your lines later. It affected a lot of the storyline. But I still think the story is told, and that's, what's the most important when we watch these shows, you know what I mean? Like, the last thing you want is for, at least for me, to be like, where's the connection at? Why aren't these scenes connecting?
46:25 Why isn't this making sense, you know? And that was my worry at first when you were like, we're going to have to change the banana thing. I'm like, wait, the banana thing runs through the whole storyline. How are you going to, how are you going to, the connective tissue is going to break? What we ended up doing was,
46:42 obviously adding some loop lines, but then we connected the two different scenes you have with DeShana into one scene. And that was Bill's idea. And I think it really, I think it really works. It really works. It really works. It really works tremendously. Actually, it was magic. It was amazing. Bill goes, wait a minute. And those two different scenes, are they on the same side of each other in the hallway? And I'm like, yeah, he goes, okay, good. I got an idea. And we put them together. Amazing. Amazing. And so then let's cut to the whole thing with Elliot and Tosh. Before we do, though, shout out to Kayla, when she tell her to play the music and she starts
47:14 like... Kayla who plays me... She walks into the final countdown, and you're like, from my phone, she's... I loved her in that. She's very funny. She's a very welcome. She's so funny. And by the way, we didn't mention Kayla as a new addition to the team. Yes. Nixon 5.
47:29 Because every time you say Team, all I can think of is Nixon 5. But it's over. You won already. Yeah, we're going to... And I'm just Nixon 5. Are you going to win again? It's Nixon 5 until next season. Okay. Okay. And... JD learned everything.
47:41 he can know about jazz from watching La La Land. Which I love. This is so good. I was my favorite part. I was going to say, taken from real life. I still want to talk about Tasha now. Oh, sorry, sorry. But when he does do the La La Land reference and he's like, I'm going to throw some jazz at you and you throw it back.
47:59 And this is the part where you say I'm like, this is the best part of the show for me right now. Really? Absolutely, man. You know I love La La La Land. I thought you were saying because of me and Higgins being silly You guys are funny and great and everything like that
48:15 but when you invoke La La Land in my heart and spirit That was funny Yeah and yeah That wasn't in the script either But I thought it would be funny If J.D really didn't know much about jazz Other than what he'd learn from watching La La La La La Land
48:33 I love that I love the scene when you're like no we're spitball in here Just getting loose It's like jazz Shooting the end S word. She's an S word. This record is on.

We have wildly different references, occasionally different opinions, and at this point in my 50s, I've lived it all. I'm not going to get anyone fighting. That is wild.
50:20 I learned that about you today. Now in my 30s, being the founder of new shoes, good taste is my business. And I've always got something to say. If men were just honest about this, there would be so much more peace in the world. We're going to talk about dating, relationships, beauty, getting older, and a little wiser. The Improvised Character Comedy Podcast where each week a new panel of artists discuss their craft. Join us for a panel of wellness influencers. What I try to do is faux journal.
52:24 I don't know. Have you guys heard of faux journaling? Yeah, it's reading. It's called reading. So we don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class?
52:35 No! I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14th. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30. No way. We'll have to come to the last bookstore though.
52:54 Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween. He gets right up next to the microphone. I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other. You never seen Italy so quiet as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween.
53:17 Listen to artists on artists on artists on artists on artists on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So let's, all right, so just so we're clear. Ava can ride the unicycle. That's why we brought it in. That's not easy to do. She's very good at it. We like to pull things from actors real life. Yes.
53:39 Any talents or skills any actors have, they tell the writers and that it becomes. Ava told us that she could ride the unicycle. I was hoping that would be like one of those things that you lie about on your resume. Like we all did when we were coming out. Archery. Did you lie about archery? I did archery. You recently revealed to me that you were a good archer.
53:58 I was a good archer. Oh, so what else is on you? What is on there that's not true? It was like it was all my camp skills. So all my shit is real. Swimming, archery, canoeing. I could do all of that shit because it can't. You know what I mean?
54:12 But then there was some fake shit on there, like horseback riding. No. No. I can't do that. Let's talk about Elliot in pediatrics. Yes. Elliot. Let's talk about not only Elliot in pediatrics, but let's give a shout out to Tamara.
54:28 Yes. She was great. She did a great job. I'm so excited to see her. Yes. For those of you who remember sister sister, we have Tamara Marie on the show. And she was. And did you know her before?
54:41 I did. I've known her since she was. very, very young, her and her sister and her brother, since they were really young, and I was really young. And we've kind of grown up, they more than me, but they've grown up in, you know, the Hollywood eye. She was great, and she was so natural and comfortable and so fun to work with. She's a real vet. She's been around forever, and she's had several hats on, in this, in this world of television. She's been a host. She's been a She's an Emmy award-winning host.
55:15 She's been an actress. She's been a producer. She's, I'm sure, directed by now. And so it was really cool to have on the show. Well, she fit right in. She's very talented. And she just thinks Tosh would be perfect for the kids, which is true. Now, Elliot really doesn't like children other than her own.
55:33 This is true of some women. I actually know in real life, who shall remain nameless. All right, who's this? No, I'm just not trying to call anybody. Yeah, but there are a lot of parents. I'm sure, who are listening, who are like, I really only like my kids. I remember when a scene was pitching me the story,
55:48 and I love, she was like, Ellie, it's actually, like, scared of other people's children. Like, she gets legitimately scared walking into pediatrics. And I love that she thinks it looks like Satan's Playhouse. Well, I've seen some of the special effects on this thing, and it will look like Satan's Playhouse by the time. Yeah, actually, in the version you just saw, Sarah, that deer that's on the wallpaper isn't animated yet.
56:06 It's going to start as a normal deer, and then it turns and, like, has its fangs out. Oh, my God. Yeah. That's so good. Yeah, so Elliot really is having a full trip out when she's in. And then she sees the little girl who looks like the ring. Yeah.
56:20 Oh, my gosh. And then, okay, so now this is something that I had a, I like, but I kind of have a problem with. Why is Elliot C blocking Tosh from finding her path? I think it's not that she's see block her. She's. I'm giving her a chance. Oh, you're a team. You're not like a host.
56:36 Come on, bro. Thanks. I think Elliot, Elliot thinks it's too late for her. She doesn't want Tosh to make the same mistakes. She's like, come on, you'd be so good at this. And I think, you know, obviously endocrinology had been a passive for Ellie. She's like, oh, my God, Tosh, you'd be so good at this.
56:52 And Tosh is the one who brings it up, that she was finding it super interesting. Yes, go for it now while you still have time. And I thought that was so sweet that Tosh ends up being the one that's encouraging Elliott and saying it's not too late for you. But it pays dividends later on, fans.
57:06 This story does continue. We're setting you guys up right now. I should say the writers and directors are setting you guys up right now. All of this stuff comes back later on. You need to pay attention. But no spoilers. By paying attention, that means going back
57:24 and watching the show over and over again on Hulu and watching our podcast. Oh, my God. Can I tell you? That was really good. I really love this storyline, you know, for a lot of reasons. I think professional women are often sort of pushed
57:37 into roles that are deemed like appropriate for women. Like, for example, a lot of female directors are like, you should go into children's television or you should direct children's movies. And they're like, that's not what I came here to do. Now that there's anything wrong with those professions or making content for children, it's a beautiful, like, initiative. If you have that drive within you, but I think the default and wanting to protect someone from making default choices you had to make was great. But I also really love, you know, I'm a lady in her 30s. And I think a lot of times, you know, women's stories across genres are sold as like, get married to have kids and settle down and like, then your life is over.
58:14 Like, you've done it. You've achieved. And I think having spent so much time with Elliott and coming out of this relationship that we really valued her in, like getting to see her as a full person and like what is beyond the happily ever after, like, she has so much life left to live. There's so much left for her to do. And I really, I was excited to see like, oh, is Elliot going to start a new direction in her career. We kind of get a tease with it in the, um, the Power Rangers sketch from before where she's like,
58:39 I'm a female doctor who's accomplished a lot, not head of anything, but I've done so much. You're like, you can kind of sense it, you know, like Donald's saying, like I really love and have always really loved the way Scrubs is, you know, it's a weekly show and there's like, you have, sometimes you have cases of the week, sometimes, you know, you're falling back into like your main character storylines. But I do feel like with this season, we're getting a lot of really good, juicy stuff and I'm appreciating everyone. Even, you know, Donald, your storyline, like with your intern, you know that moment later where you're like, I ain't brag, I earned the right
59:10 to brag, I was like, yeah, right. We have rewatched this show. Every fan of the show is like, I call bullshit. I call bullshit right now, Turkey. That's so true, Joelle. And I do, like Donald said, the writers are doing such a good job of seeing lots of things in these first two episodes, even things. that were seated last season
59:33 that are going to come to fruition throughout the course of this season. Yeah, Joel, you're right. There's so much juicy stuff. And there's so much stuff that like, I mean, last season was nine episodes. And it was like finding the show and what was it going to be.
59:47 And it's like Zach always says that it was like R&D. And like coming in this season and, you know, meeting with the writers and hearing about all of their ideas, it was so exciting. And we all have stuff
59:58 that we get to do that's so fun. I mean, one of the things I was personally, most excited about was like something that we missed a little bit in that first year was like kind of making ourselves really grown up and how do you find that line and thread the needle of like what we were then 25 years ago and what we can be now and so we found opportunities to bring in like parts of that that we didn't even a have time to last year or they weren't sure if we should like Elliot gets to you know through Scott Foley coming back like find a lot more of the
01:00:24 bro whoa spoilers oh spoilers that's fine that's about to call Foley we know Scott Foley comes down but she's about to go into his plot point Tune in. Tune in next week. I completely hear what you're saying. I completely hear what you're saying. There's so much to play with as actors in this whole situation. And that, I don't know if that ever really happens with revivals
01:00:48 because I don't have any examples of revivals that have made it. But usually after what happily ever after, you imagine everything is great, but to come back and find these characters are still flawed and, you know, all right, here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about, and I hate to bring it up, but Star Wars is a perfect example. When we leave Return to the Jedi, Luke Skywalker is a freaking Jedi, and he's just saved the galaxy, and when we return, he shut himself off from the force.
01:01:24 That ain't realistic for me. I'm sorry, bro, but I love it. You're like, I love the continuation and so it's how we ever after. But for Star Wars, it's not, it doesn't work for me. For this, it's perfect because these people aren't Jedi. And they're not, they're not, in the words of Star Wars, the special beings of the galaxy, these people are human. And I think, you know, if anybody's going to break up, It needs to be J.D.
01:02:05 Elliott because if Turk and Carla broke up, everybody loses their mind. There would be an outrage. There would be a freaking, there would be a war. Let's circle back to the show. I digress. Yeah. No, you went full Star Wars, but we're back. I really laughed at me and J.D. trying to basically make a booty call with Blake.
01:02:28 But I thought when we were, he's trying to make Grant jealous. And he's like, I just thought when we were intubating that guy, we really bonded. Yeah, we had fun, but that's all that was. I'll tell you some right now. Gridley is freaking, freaking good at that, man. Oh, he comes to the... Oh, he was so good. Oh, I got lost in his eyes.
01:02:47 Yeah, he's really good at that. When he's so handsome, when he was dissing me, I was like, oh, I really genuinely do feel bad right now. I feel like I was just used. Yeah, he's so funny. He's really good at that. There's a bunch of stuff that these young men and women did when, I mean, they've been living up in Vancouver this whole time.
01:03:08 And there's so many really cool things because they've had to hang out and bond with each other. I'm very grateful for the fact that these guys found each other and they're able to be friends and they root for each other. But they did a rap video. They did a song and a video that is fire. And you guys might not ever see it. Yeah, they're not going to release.
01:03:30 It's so funny. It was meant for the rap part, Joelle. They're musically so talented. And it's amazing. But they sort of said some R-rated stuff. And I was like, can't you guys release that and just bleep it? And they're like, we're not releasing that. They're not releasing.
01:03:45 But the point is, we know what the internet can do. No, but the point is they're so talented. And they bonded like we bonded when we first started doing the show. Yeah. Like we went on, we went so many places when we first started this show. and like from Mexico to Brazil to all and it created this unity that has lasted for our whole lives the whole this 25 years I've known half of my life I've known these guys right and I'm hoping and praying that the things that we've done with them and the experiences that they've had
01:04:18 will transcend into their older years and everything and they can look on each other for what we have because we have something that, I'm sorry, I don't know a lot of people in this industry. I don't think they have what we have. One, the history that we have, it's very rare that you have 25 years of history with someone. That's very rare. And it's very rare that 15 years after your first run,
01:04:47 you get to come back, and all of the history that you've had in the past is now applied into what you're doing right now. And I'm hoping, I don't know if they get to do scrubs, you know, 3.0. What you're trying to get into for a day shroom? What you're trying to do? I'm hoping they get to experience somewhat what we've gotten to experience. I think they will.
01:05:12 Just to, like, to your point, they're not sitting around on their days off. They're, like, hanging out and creating more shit together, even this season. You know, like, they are making more stuff. They're making projects. They're writing together. It's really cool. besties. All right, let's get back to the show.
01:05:26 That's part of the show. We're running out of time. Go ahead, Sarah. Before we move on, we have to address one of the funniest moments, which was Sibby, coming up and telling you that Grant Summers has reported you and say what, and she's like, Grant Summers has her. You're like, I know, I hear you. By the way, that is the dumbest joke, and it's been done as lean times, but I'm not ashamed
01:05:45 to tell you I laugh every single time. I laugh. I laugh every time she did it, and there's a shot over you, and I'm in the background, and we kept having to reshoot it because I was even looking at her and just heard. doing. I'm like, I can't. It's so good. I laugh every time at that joke. How about, where are we here? So we're toward the, yeah, I know. So he's a booty call. Elliot putting her hands up. Oh, I thought this was cute. And it inspired me at the end. So when Sarah comes in to talk to Cox, she puts her arms up like him because she's trying to be
01:06:15 his peer. Right. Like, hey, two peers talking. And then it gave me the idea when I did the very end that I would do it too, like I'm trying to be on his level. And I thought that was cute to make that like a tiny runner that were both trying to be his peer. Yeah, and that that's the way that you manifest that is by putting your head. Yeah, you do. All I know is when my mentor was feeling confident and he went like this. That's what you do. And this brings me to part of how we're, I guess how we wrap this up.
01:06:45 Cox is always the truth bomb for these guys. Always, right? And we aren't as lucky this season to have. have John C. McGinley on every episode of this show because he has another show that he's doing and stuff like that. Called Rooster, which is a very good show. But we got him as much as we can get him. And when he's here, I feel like it's so important for all of the new Scrubs watchers and old Scrubs watchers to see that he still has an influence on J.D. Eliot and Turks' lives. I think, you know, just because your mentor,
01:07:24 is no longer available. We could talk about Bill and how that is also as much as he isn't as available as much as he was or she was back in the day. They're still there to help guide you in some way. And I think it's, I think one, we're lucky to have him on the show, but also the way we've written him into the show. Us trying to fix him,
01:07:50 him still trying to teach us is, you know, Very dynamic. And I, as a fan of the show, I really love the fact that John still comes back and drops truth bombs on his three mentees. I thought that was really moving when he gives you that speed, that monologue. I thought John was just excellent in that monologue.
01:08:15 And it was so beautiful. And then I had the idea with the three of us walking. I was like, oh my God, imagine we could find a shot of the three of us, walking from the OG show. So I had Sarah Lucky or editor have her assistant just start scouring early episodes for any shot. And then they found that shot. And I go, oh, my God, in John's mind, we should cut back to the way we looked 25 years ago.
01:08:41 I loved. I didn't know that was going to happen until I watched the episode. I loved that you guys did that. That wasn't in the script. We just found it. But that's still, it's like parents when they look at their kids. I see my kid as, you know, babies. You see all the ages.
01:08:56 You know what I mean? They're like, I'm a fucking teenager now or I'm a freaking adult now. You know what I mean? But I still look at them and see babies. And that's how Cox sees Elliot. When it cuts back to his eyes
01:09:10 and he's just looking with such pride, even though he's just said to JD like it wasn't talking to you and he's been rough, tough love for Turk, when they're not looking, he has such pride. Yes. And that, that game.
01:09:24 me goosebumps. Like Johnny's expression when we're looking the other way that he has such pride for what he created. And let's talk about that page and a half monologue, which was so incredibly written and then obviously like unbelievably executed by Johnny. I could like watching him do that because he just walks out of the office. So I was like right there on the other side of the wall. He, it was so moving. But it's also incredible because there's so many laughs in there. Like when he's like, Turk, he's like, please God, let this be my final test.
01:10:00 Yeah. And then he's going to do it. And he doesn't know Turk's name. Turk, whatever your last name, Turk is my last name. Just like Kelso. And then that slow pushing on Johnny with that music cue towards the end of his speech. It's like,
01:10:14 it was. And it's also meta, too. Because when we came into this game, you know, regardless of how much work we had, none of us had work like Johnny. Yeah, he was a mentor to us as actors, you know? And so for him to sit there and be like, now look at this, these guys, the show that we all became famous on, I'm standing here looking at these three and they're fucking doing the thing that, you know, we watched, you know, Bill and his group of writers and creators do back in the day. And now he can look at us and see us do this shit.
01:10:50 And so it's really, it's meta in a lot of ways, too. And I put Gregory Allen Isikov's song Time Will Tell, which is just a really beautiful song. It's so beautiful. I really, we went through lots of incarnations of music there, but that's the one. You know, my classic thing that placing music is, when do you get goosebumps? And then you know you got something good. And that song at that moment gives me goosebumps. It's our second Gregory Allen Isakov on Scroft.
01:11:16 I know. He's just, the second, we used him last season. On Amsterdam? Amsterdam, yeah. I just, I love him and he just feels very scrubsy. Totally. And then we have this end scene with Cox and Dubois. We shot that actually at Magic Hour.
01:11:31 The light is so beautiful. It does work. There's a lens flare on Johnny. And it's just a beautifully lit scene. And I just love that Johnny, Dr. Cox, finally acquiesces and sits in the chair. It's just such a to see Dr. Cox give in and sit down in a wheelchair. is just a very significant moment in the storytelling of the show Scrubs. Well, he has that moment of fight, though, right before it, too.
01:12:02 Yeah, well, he needs Dubois to summon his tough guy, Russ. But you even see it in Johnny's face. He thinks about it. I could, I'm not getting a chair. You know what I mean? At first he's like, you're right. Well, I think a part of him, I like to think a part of him is proud. He's like, all right, yeah, you're doing what you should be doing.
01:12:24 even though he knows this is going to come back and bite him. Even though he knows it's going to come haunt J.D. But he says, this is what I taught you to do. And then I love in the tag that his ultimate nightmare is that four of me just wants to hug him. That's the weirdest tag ever because I'm not sure if it's a fantasy or if it's real. It's a dream. Okay. But then he hits you in the face with a bedpan.
01:12:48 Well, that's a dream within a dream with a dream. With a dream within a dream. Well, that's assault, sir. No. I guess that is technically a really hard hit with a bedpan in real life. But it was funny. I laughed out. But, yeah, that's episode 202, everybody.
01:13:07 Thoughts? Is there anything, any thoughts? Any closing remarks? Joelle, go ahead, Joelle. Guys, okay, so thinking a lot about what Donald said, about the seeds being planted, here's what I'm looking out for. I'm worried Elliot is going to regret telling Jordan everything's going to be okay. It stopped my heart
01:13:24 when she was like, I promise me. I was like, you never promise. Oh, no. I'm worried that Turks handshaking really frightened me. I was like, how bad is this? Like, is this something where you should be concerned about? Is this something that's going to get worse over time?
01:13:38 Makes me a little bit nervous. Turks handshaking? When you were doing the banana stuff, your intern is like, oh, your hand is shaken, old man. And I was like, is this something I need to be focusing in on? Oh, my gosh. And of course, now I'm worried about J.D.'s job.
01:13:55 I was like, how is J.D. not fired? He's been reported for insurance. He's the head of medicine. It's making me nervous. I'm glad there's so many laughs in this show, so it doesn't give me too much anxiety. By the way, speaking of, I'm trying to interrupt you for one second, Joelle. I just wanted to remember, do you guys remember in that amazing dramatic speech that Johnny has, flavor, Flav used to come back?
01:14:16 Yeah. Right in the middle of it. And he had another joke. And we were like, yeah. And it was so, it was. It was so funny, but it was like it totally ruined the drop of. I was like, forgotten about that. Joelle, I love that you're having all of these, like, that's so perfect.
01:14:36 Like, wondering all those things. That's what we want. I'm really enjoying watching the show. I had to really show some restraint and not watch episode three. So I'm probably going to go home and go to her now. Now you can watch three and four because. And audience, thank you so much for tuning in. We appreciate you.
01:14:51 This is so fun. I love our new set. I love our new vibes. Sarah, we love having you here. Please come do a bunch. I love it. I mean, it's the least you can do since you made us move to Canada. It is the very least I can do.
