The Hits with Jono and for the Burner Phone. Come on in. Come on. Don't worry, it's just a podcast.
That's alright, it's the Burner Phone. It doesn't matter.
Part of the fun of the Burner Phone, it's a little bit
behind the scenes.
We can. So what we do is we clear
a voicemail every day. You can text 4487
if you'd like to get the Burner Phone number.
Feel free to leave us a voicemail and we will
tackle a different one every day.
As producer Joel said, here is today's.
Received today at 10.25am.
Hey, Joel and Ben.
It's Zoe here.
Just after hearing Jono losing everything,
I was wondering what he would rather lose,
his phone, his wallet, or his keys.
Thanks.
Now, I laughed going into that,
thinking that was going to be a,
I thought there was going to be a punchline to that.
I thought, yeah.
Yeah, I was thinking, would you rather lose to that. I thought hair, virginity.
Yeah, I thought his phone, his keys, or his, you know,
but no, that was actually a serious, legitimate question.
So let's re-voice it with Ben doing it.
Okay, take two.
Hi, this is Ben here.
I just heard Jono talking about losing his wallet,
and I'm just wondering what Jono would rather lose,
his phone, his his wallet or his hair
if you'd let me know that's what I would have said but they were actually what was those options
phone phone wallet keys phone wallet keys the Adam Sandler song oh great song if you ever google
Adam Sandler singing phone wallet keys very funny it's about all the stuff that we're having to
carry nowadays as human beings started off with phone wallet keys that's all you needed back in
the day right it is yeah it's I had that ringing in my head every time I leave the house now,
phone wallet keys.
Okay, so let's talk through three options, all inconvenient.
In a perfect world, you wouldn't lose any of them.
Because you lose your wallet, you're going to have to get your cards replaced
and potentially if you carry cash, you've got cash involved
and all your, oh, that's a pain, all your cards,
everything like that if you've got all your cards in there i guess we're looking at the least admin aren't we yeah
you lose your keys well that's a that is troublesome particularly if you don't have a backup
that's the calling out a locksmith uh probably the out of all the options the least you have to make
one phone call phone is generally a lot of stuff's backed up now on your phone, isn't it?
Yeah.
But as a painter, you know, in some ways I might go keys.
I might go keys.
I'm going on keys and hoping that I lose my keys,
I can get keys cut from my wife's set.
Car keys is a bit fiddly.
So you can head down to Mr. Minute and go, hey.
You can recut that and hope that no one works out who's got my keys that my keys are to my house yeah because that's the thing you
get a set of keys you're not going to necessarily know oh that's going to open up number 46 at
whatever street you know like that's so but it's it's all very annoying all these things it is yeah
okay keys are a good option you know one thing i've always wondered about keys. So if I've got one car key, I lose that.
Yeah.
How do I get a new key?
Can they cut a key for the lock?
Oh, from inside their lock.
Yeah, they probably can.
I can imagine so.
I'm just going to go through here to the Mr. Minute shop.
So could someone in that situation come out,
they put some sort of special putty in there that hardens
and then replicates your key?
Yes, hello.
Hello, have I got a hold of Mr. Minit?
Yes.
How are you?
Good, thank you.
It's Jono and Ben from the Hits radio station.
You're on the Burner Phone podcast.
Just had a question, key-related question.
Yeah.
So I've got a car, I've got one key for that car.
I don't have a backup.
If I lose that key, can you then cut me a new key specifically for my car?
Yes, we can.
You can?
Yes.
So would you need to get something that kind of, if it was the key went in the ignition,
that filled like a mould that would go in the ignition or something?
We've got some tools here that we just use to decode the doorbell.
When you plug in a computer
to do transmitter chips,
if they have one,
and if they don't,
then just say normal.
Interesting.
So it's all the computer.
The computer can cut the key.
Jeez, I couldn't be trusted
in your job.
I would be using those skills
for all sorts of
nefarious purposes.
No, no, no.
No, you wouldn't.
You're above board.
You've got a very successful
business, key cutting. Yeah. Thank you. So, Producer Joe, I wanted to, you wouldn't. You're above board. You've got a very successful business, key cutting.
Yeah.
Thank you.
So, Producer Joe, I wanted to bring you on here
because you fired through a text pretty quickly
saying it was $800.
Yeah, apparently if you lose...
Apparently, but that sounds like something you know.
...like a BMW car key or something
and to try to replicate getting that car
cost an absurd amount of money.
I'll look it up right now.
He just said $15.
He just said $15.
I think that's like $15
for a house key, isn't it?
Yeah.
Well, yeah, probably you're right.
That's, geez, so
keys, if we're going back
to the original question,
what would you rather lose?
Keys are probably not a bad option.
Yeah.
Easily fixed.
Producer Joel
just doing some research here.
Have you lost a car key?
I haven't,
but I've had a time
on New Year's Eve
where I went to
a few different places and I got back in the morning and I realised I haven't but I've had a time on New Year's Eve where I went to a few different places
and I got back in the morning and I realised
I didn't have my car keys
and I had to drive back to Auckland from
Mangowai that day and
it was about a 30 minute
panic mode. Yeah and so were you calling
places going how much would this cost?
Yeah and some guys like it's going to cost like
500 bucks. Yeah of course it is because you can hear the panic
in your voice. It's New Year's Day too, it's going to cost like 500 bucks. Yeah, of course it is because you can hear the panic in your voice.
It's New Year's Day too, so it's a holiday.
It was one of those moments where I was like, I literally do not want to, yeah, I'll just, just please.
It was a shock.
I had to get out of this place in like the next half hour as well.
And luckily I found him.
What had you done?
Yeah, it sounds dodgy.
It was a dodgy, dodgy story.
2.30am on New Year's morning.
I need to leave, but I've made Year's morning. I need to leave.
I've made some bad decisions.
I had to go,
but they were actually under my car seat though.
So yeah, someone's like,
have you looked at your cars?
I don't know why it would be in my car,
but yeah.
Was this the period where you were just wandering around
with a solo car key?
Because that's what you were,
that was a very irresponsible.
No, I actually had a Hitz branded lanyard
at the time as well.
So if I didn't have the lanyard,
someone's like, is it on the lanyard? It was like well So if I didn't have the lanyard Someone's like
Is it on the lanyard
Pulled it
It was like under the car
Pulled it out from the car crack
Saved the day
And I didn't drive home as well
Just that's kind of the
The state I was in
Someone else drove the car
So yeah
Great jeez
What a night
What a night
There we go
So the keys probably seem
Like the preferred option
Yeah
The car
If we're going to lose
The wallet
The keys
Or the phone
We've all locked in keys So thank you very much For your car, if we're going to lose the wallet, the keys, or the phone.
We've all locked in keys,
so thank you very much for your message
and if you'd like to leave us one,
feel free to do so.
