The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Here we go, going viral in America.
Ben Fitchett, who went to a Katy Perry concert in Las Vegas,
then the next night went to an Adele concert.
Both nights dragged up on stage.
And he performed what felt like a two or three minute dance routine
at the Katy Perry show, brought the house down.
We'll put that up on the Hits Breakfast social media.
Then the next night, Adele brings him on stage
And he joins us now on New Zealand's Breakfast
Welcome, Ben
Thank you
Wild 48 hours in your life
Yeah
It was just, still look back at it and think how bizarre it was
So let's talk through, okay, so Kiwi guy
You live in LA at the moment, right?
Yes, correct
And you went with your mum to Las Vegas
Tell us what happened.
Two nights in a row, pretty incredible.
Yeah, so I surprised her with tickets to see Adele
because her and every other middle-aged woman just loved Adele.
She flew all the way from New Zealand just to come to Adele.
And we were figuring out what to do on that Friday,
and I said, I'd love to see Katie.
Before we knew it, Katie was asking where people were from.
I leaped down on my feet, was jumping like an idiot.
And we were on stage.
On stage with Katy Perry, just like that?
Just like that.
She pointed up to us and said, who are you with?
Are you with your mom?
I said, yes.
She said, oh, we're going to have to invite you down to dance on stage.
We got swarmed by security instantly and escorted down.
And we were selected.
And then next minute we were talking with Katie Terry face to face.
Wow.
What does she look like centimetres away?
Stunning.
Oh, my God.
So stunning.
Wow.
I remember standing there and looking at her and just,
I can still feel what it felt like to hold her hand on stage.
There's a moment at the end where we're both laying on the stage,
and I can still remember how it felt to just lay there and hold.
There wouldn't be any calluses on those hands.
No, there'd be blemish-free hands.
This is the thing.
We've just watched the footage of you going up on stage with Katy Perry.
Now, if I got brought up on stage in front of all those people,
Katy Perry, I would crumble.
But you, I mean mean it felt like it was
your show you went on for like a couple of minutes dancing around the stage it was incredible I mean
when you've got one chance you have to take it you did you even did that with the death drop at
the end is that what they call it when you when you threw yourself back on the ground and then
she followed you and you as you say you end up holding your hand on the ground yeah I mean look
it was a very weak effort at what they call a death drop,
but nonetheless, it was a great show.
Now, did you have a routine planned,
or was this just all freestyle?
You were just going with the music?
We're just totally freestyle.
I just got up there, and she was just like,
three, two, one, and it just came.
It just came to you?
I just had one shot, and I was like,
I need to put on a show.
You did?
You had a fan.
That's what came from it.
You had a fan with you.
Did you grab that from the crowd
or was that on stage?
I mean,
we did this giant fan
that you were sort of
fanning yourself with.
So they gave us the fans
side of stage,
but actually,
I just remember
we were standing in the back
because there was a little girl
that was invited up too.
So she danced before me.
And one of Katie's backup dancers is a Kiwi.
So he whispered in my ear and said, oh, I'm a Kiwi too.
Now, the little girl, did the little girl dance as well?
She did dance.
I bet you crapped all over that little girl.
Oh, I mean, it was really sweet.
Katie was piping her up.
You could tell she was a little bit nervous.
I mean, and she would.
I don't know how old she was, but she was very young.
Anyway, she crumbled, you came on, and you put on the show of the night.
Oh, great show, and then, what, the next night, Adele, talk us through that, you're at concert
with her, with you and your mum?
Yeah, so we then went to Adele, and again, fitting in the nosebleeds, it was two nights
of nosebleeds that just turned into a ridiculous evening.
So how did the Adele thing happen?
And I had been standing up since the song before
and just was doing this like rodeo move
out of my seat
and she just saw me and said,
look at that guy doing the rodeo up there.
Like he looks like he's having a good old night.
You know, she's got great sense of humor.
And then they put the cameras on me and I was just like doing it i was just like shimmying and
everyone was laughing it was like a little moment and so she said well i'm gonna have to bring rodeo
boy down aren't i my my mom just flew out of her seat she was just like wailing she was and then
again we were swarmed by security and taken down
the lift and so you're talking with adele on stage yes and what is your name it was that was just
like she came over and she said i'll talk to you in a minute she performed a couple of songs and
she came back and asked my name and where i was from um and I pulled a few jokes with her.
She asked my name.
I said, well, I'm not British.
She said, are you mocking my accent?
But then she went on to dedicate
Don't You Remember to My Mum
and she was crying.
It was just the best night of her life.
Oh, my goodness.
Wow.
Jeez.
The excitement you had in 48 hours
is more excitement than I've had in 41 years.
And I said, it's a joke between my friend group now. We said than I've had in 41 years.
It's a joke between my friend group now. We said all good things come
in threes, so there has to be one Las Vegas
residency that's going to happen out. So now
we're scanning on who. Chris Angel
might pull you out of a hat or
something. If anyone's going to pluck
me from the back row, it's probably going to be Chris Angel.
Oh, well, Ben, thank you so much
for sharing. What an amazing, amazing thing
to happen. It was so awesome to
chat to you. Thanks so much for your time. Oh, thank
you, guys. Have a good rest of your day. You too,
Ben. See you, mate.
