I don't know if you could say certain words on your show, but I suffer from a thing called
peace of ****ism.
Oh, I was just going to ask, what's your mental illness?
Peace of ****ism is my, that's my, that's my mental. Is that your only thing going on? I got to keep my boobs and my, and my, and my butt padding. You're padding. Do you still wear it? No, but I'll put the boobs on every once in a while when I make coffee, just to mess with my kids. Actually? I love that. I'll put them on under my shirt and I'm like, good morning girls, they're like, dang. Oh my God, but I love that. Stop. She's got the fish and all the gossips.
Filthy rich, pretty and pink.
Hot topic queen and says what everybody thinks.
She's just straight.
Yay!
You're a fan of the Lububu?
Yes, are you? Ah, yes. You're a Lububu Lububu? Yes, are you?
Ah, yes.
You're a Lububu fan?
Okay, well let's just get into it then, all right?
Oh yeah, just a little.
I didn't know that, okay.
Well, welcome to Just Trish, you guys.
Today my guest is someone,
I don't think I've ever been so giddy.
I mean, husband's like, I've never seen you so nervous,
excited, I just,
you guys, AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys is here.
Hi. What?
Hi. I? Hi.
I'm playing it cool, but, oh, I mean,
you're probably used to this, just us millennial women
now just being like, you were everything in my childhood.
Thank you.
It's crazy to see you.
To see you here, I saw you walk in.
I was like, this is, it feels like a dream.
It feels unreal.
Thank you for having me.
I am a big fan.
I know that we were talking prior to this about when
we first met, or at least when I recall first meeting you
at Criss Angel's show in Vegas.
And I just thought you were the most adorable thing I've ever
seen.
And I was just like, you were all in pink.
And I was like, this is like a real life Barbie.
She's so cute.
She's so sweet.
And you were so nice.
And you said hi to my mom mom because I was with my mom
yes and my mom just thought the world of you so that's so
wild you remember I have the picture will put the picture
up because it's like one of my favorite pictures. That's wild
remember I remember that I had just got out of a mental
hospital, my first mental hospital stay so it's like 3
days later I was feeling like so depressed and then yeah when
Chris invited me to the show so excited because I had known him
for a while too but then when I saw you, because you guys were playing
a residency at Grand Highwood.
We did.
Yes, that was our very first residency.
I don't remember much of the residency
because I was not in the best headspace.
I definitely was not sober during the entire run.
And now coming up on almost four years sober.
But yeah, it was a different time for me.
And I can't blame it on Vegas.
You can't blame it on geography.
I was just not in the right mental.
Oh my gosh, so we met in 2019.
That was when we saw the Criss Angel Show.
So what year of the residency was that for you guys?
That was the end of the the Criss Angel show. So what year of the residency was that for you guys? That was the end of the residency.
We started in 2017.
We initially put up nine shows.
Those sold out in about 20 minutes, so we added nine more.
And by the end of the run, we had 81 shows.
And at the time, it was the fastest selling residency
in Vegas history.
And then now, so Vegas kept asking us after that,
we gotta get you guys back,
and you know, we were talking with Caesars,
we were talking Planet is kinda going through a transition.
I believe they got bought out,
and I think they're either turning into the Sands,
or they may be going back to the Aladdin, I'm not sure.
But they're getting a full like makeover. So they don't
currently have anybody there doing any shows right now as
far as any like residency. But Caesar's we had to deal with
them because Caesar's owns planets. So we were doing all
that stuff. And then we went back on tour, we finished up the
DNA tour, which took us four years because of the pandemic.
We should have been done in 2022,
or no, sorry, 2021.
And we didn't finish until May, 2023.
Wow.
And then we took a year off.
Well, I didn't take a year off.
The rest of the boys took a year off.
And then we just got the offer to do Sphere Las Vegas
and there is no bigger
residency level venue in the world. No, it was like U2 and then Backstreet Boys.
I mean we're the first pop band in there, the first pop artist
technically. We went and saw the Eagles to do some recon just because none of us
had ever seen a show there. Yeah. And it's overwhelming.
I mean, you feel like you're going to miss something
if you don't look everywhere.
Like your neck is killing you when you leave
because you're looking the screen, all of it,
166,000 speakers.
The seats are haptic, so they vibrate, they move.
It's a complete experience.
That's gonna be so insane with especially pop music,
because there's DJs that play there
and you just feel the boom, boom, boom.
But with larger than life in there,
what's that even look like?
Robots over top of you?
We just finished shooting a bunch of content
for the actual show, as well as,
so the thing about the Sphere is,
or Sphere Las Vegas, I keep getting corrected,
it's not The Sphere, it's just Sphere.
Yeah, okay.
I'm like, Jesus, bite the hand.
It's, you know, most of the acts that have already
been there are all bands.
So they stand, they play instruments,
the Eagles, you know, U2,
The Grateful Dead Show, and play instruments, the Eagles, you know, U2, The Grateful Dead Show.
And then you have Anima, which was the DJ, kind of EDC vibe.
But a band like us, we're still doing the same show
that fans expect.
So you're seeing two shows at once.
You're seeing what's on the screen,
and then you're gonna be watching
a typical Backstreet Boys show.
I'm suggesting to people to come see the show more than
once
because you're going to you're going to miss something
you know what I mean so
and we're also the I think the I think you to may have done a
GA floor. We're also doing the same so that we still feel like
it's a proper concert right because the first row is like probably 6070 feet away from the stage and that we still feel like it's a proper concert. Right. Because the first row is like probably 60,
70 feet away from the stage.
And that's just too far to be away from the fans.
We want to feel that energy.
So what's going to be hard, I think, for us
is to not try to sneak a peek and see
what's happening on the screen.
Yeah.
We are going to go in next month to actually watch
the entire show, the content, just to make our final touch-ups and whatnot.
So it's like new music, almost like videos
that you're doing to go with the songs?
Yeah, and the stuff that we shot,
I so badly have to bite my tongue,
because I want to say what it is, but I can't.
But it is going to be unlike anything anyone's
ever seen in this venue. And it is going to be unlike anything anyone's ever seen
in this venue.
And it's all to commemorate the 25th anniversary
of our biggest album, which was Millennium.
So you will hear the entire Millennium album in the show.
Plus some of our personal favorites and fan favorites.
And I can't say what this is a prelude to,
but this is a prelude to something. Oh my gosh. I can't say what this is a prelude to, but this is a prelude to something.
Oh my gosh.
I can't even imagine.
Because you guys have really been going nonstop then,
because you always think Backstreet Boys, right?
It's like, oh, the comeback.
But you kind of always have been playing.
You've always been touring.
Do you ever get sick of the songs, or you're like,
no more, I want it that way?
My oldest daughter would tell you
how much she hates that song.
Because she just hears it all the time.
She just hears it all the time.
She just hears it all the time and now, you know, she's in middle school now, so, you know, the politics and all the drama in middle school and kids are older so that they now kind of really understand what her dad does.
Yeah. Which is, it's a double edged sword, you know, it can be stressful for her because, oh, you have nice shoes, your dad and and da da da da, I know I've missed that, and your dad's a pop star,
blah blah blah.
And then, you know, others are like fans of our,
you know, band.
But it's, I don't know, it's just, it's interesting.
It's interesting because there is definitely
probably two or three songs that personally
I could live without doing.
So we've done like remixes or we've done things
to freshen it up at least for us.
You know, as long as you, the one thing I hate
that artists do is they'll like remix some
of their biggest songs and then they sing it differently
also live and us as fans of these artists,
we want to sing along.
If you change it too much, it takes you out of that moment.
So it doesn't matter to me if they change the production,
that's fine.
But just sing the melody so I can sing along with you.
So we always will keep that as part of our shtick.
Like we're not gonna change the melody.
Well you're a rare one to who's like kept your voice.
Like voice has just changed.
Like I love Donny Asmunds, him in Vegas all the time.
Him singing Puppy Lab at five versus Puppy Lab at 65
is different.
But you've kept your voice.
Like when you do your solos,
like on I Want It That Way, like it sounds exactly the same
as the album, which is like, not everyone can say, so.
After smoking cigarettes for 20 plus years,
that's kind of shocking, but.
Which is crazy, how do you keep it?
You know, it's funny, I was just having this conversation
with one of my buddies at the studio last night,
and they were giving me crap for it,
but I'm like, I tried a few times,
because before every show, we have a group prayer.
We've done that since day one.
But before that,
because I'm the first one dressed every night,
purposely so I can go have a quick cigarette
before the show.
That's how I kind of just zen out, calms me down.
And then I tried two times in my whole career to not smoke before a show,
worst two shows in my life.
And I'm not condoning smoking, kids.
It's not good for you, don't do it.
But for me, for some reason, it just, I don't know.
It's my calmness before the storm,
but I am planning on quitting.
It's the last vice I have.
You know, so, and it's probably one of the hardest ones to kick. before the storm, but I am planning on quitting. It's the last vice I have, you know?
So, and it's probably one of the hardest ones to kick.
That's wild because you've gone to rehab for addiction.
Three times, three times.
And you've had outpatient mental health.
So the fact that cigarettes is the hardest thing
for you to kick, cause like, hard drugs is hard to kick.
Like I've been there, prescription pills, all that stuff.
Yeah, yeah, I mean, I'm a big coffee guy.
So when I moved to California 25 years ago,
I had never touched coffee in my life.
And as soon as I was introduced to coffee,
I'm like, ooh, I like this.
And then once I had kids, I'm like, coffee is life.
You know, as a parent, coffee is life.
So coffee and cigarettes, they just go so well hand in hand.
I'm sorry to say, but it's like the perfect marriage.
It's probably better, I guess, than doing like,
coke or something.
There's a lot of, yeah, I mean, I've done enough
in my party days.
But look, I still know how to have a good time.
Yeah.
But now I can remember what I did last night.
That's important.
And I now have learned the word boundaries.
I never knew what that was.
I know no is a complete sentence.
That's a hard one to learn.
Yeah, and my sponsor has probably one of the best
like anecdotes, if you will.
It's the spiritual path or the psychopath.
And I can still have a little psycho in me.
There's nothing wrong with that.
But it's a contained psycho
because I still want to have fun.
I'm a man child.
I collect toys and I'm a sneaker head.
And I mean.
La boo boo's you said.
Yes, I got my la boo boo's, my bear bricks.
I'm, oh big time, Funko's, all of it.
How do you get, is it your daughters or is it you
that are like, I love these la boo boo's?
It's me.
I'm getting my girls into the Funkos
and now a buddy of mine who started Funko back in 1986,
him and I and a few of his buddies
were starting another toy company called Rocky Moto.
And it's Japanese inspired,
like our toys come in little ramen cups,
it's a cup of fun.
Oh my gosh.
And so I'm the chief design officer.
So I'm designing all the clothes, all the little trinkets,
the little accessories.
I'm doing a purse.
I'm doing shoulder bags, all of it.
So I'm going to have to get you some stuff.
When is that? Was it out?
Is it out?
It is out.
We're doing the official, official launch at AnimeCon,
which is coming up on July 4th.
And you're gonna be there?
I'm gonna be there. There's gonna be a performance, a runway show.
Are you performing?
I'm performing, but it's a song that we wrote around Rocky Moto.
I love that. Japanese?
There is, it's both. It's bilingual.
I love that.
So I'll be singing in English, because my Japanese ain't as good as it used to be.
And then we have this little kind of girl group that'll be singing in English because my Japanese ain't as good as it used to be and then we have
This little kind of girl group that'll be doing Japanese. Oh my god. Wait, do you spoke Japanese at one point?
I mean I could get by but I was like go go Rakimoto go go Rakimoto. Oh, it's gonna be
It's like so
Obnoxious it's brilliant. It gets in your head and you won't stop singing it. I like it, I like it already, and the name is cute too.
Yeah, Rakimoto.
Oh my gosh, because you guys were pretty big in Japan.
Japan, yeah, nowadays I feel like Japan is really close
to the chest with their artists,
and then obviously the massive explosion of the K-pop world
is just bled into all of the Pacific Rim, essentially,
whether it's in Singapore, Thailand, you know,
Korea, all of it, you know, it's become a thing.
I mean, but it's just so crazy coming from our generation
and like being a group of five and seeing a group
of like 12 guys on stage is just insane.
It's wild.
Would you want to be a part of like BTS, K-pop?
Like would you want 12 guys in a band or were you?
Five is enough.
Really?
Five is enough.
You think it's more complicated with more?
I mean, would you really even spend that much time together?
Like the five of us, we probably now more than ever
are the closest we have ever been.
You know, during like the mid 2000s,
we kind of went through a low where like,
after Black and Blue, it was like, we need a break.
We hadn't stopped for like 10 years straight.
So it was just, we were burnt out.
I mean, I went to rehab,
Kevin left the group for seven years.
We kept going with his blessing
and we gave him our blessing to go start a family
and he wanted to do Broadway
and he got to do all those things
and you know, and then he came back in 2013.
So, you know, but 12 guys, no, that's just, that's,
I mean, that's like a football team.
Like, what are you doing?
I guess if you like didn't get along with someone,
there's always someone you can get along with
and talk to them instead.
And there's definitely,
there's been a different dynamic for us five over the years.
Like I think at the very beginning I was super close with Brian and then Nick and I are like three years apart.
But like you know Kevin and I maybe weren't as close as we are now.
Yeah.
Howie, I've known the longest. I've known Howie for 35, almost 36 years.
Wait, when did you guys meet? Were you like 10 or how old was he? I met Howie when I was probably 11,
and he was, I think, 15.
We met at, we would meet at auditions throughout,
like, all of Orlando.
Yeah.
Whenever there was a casting call for Latinos,
I would meet Howie.
He was always at these auditions.
And then somehow they'd always pick the Nick guy,
the blonde hair, blue eye, like then why am I here?
Oh yeah, that's odd.
It's like a casting for Menudo and they pick Nick?
Basically yeah, like I'm here for a Tapatio commercial
and you pick Nick, like what?
That was 30 years ago, they wouldn't do that now.
No, definitely not now, but no, so I always tease Howie because there was a thing back in Orlando years ago, they wouldn't do that now. No, definitely not now. But no, so I always tease Howie, because there
was a thing back in Orlando years ago,
it's not there anymore, it's called the Latin Carnival.
And it was just diversity of performances and Latin foods
and this whole thing.
And I did this talent show, and Howie
did it as well with his old singing partner.
And I beat him and I won $1,000.
So to this day, I always gotta throw that back in his face.
I'm like, yep.
First time we ever really performed together, I beat you.
What does he say about it?
He's okay with it?
He's like, whatever dude, it's fine.
Howie's our little realtor of the group.
I mean, he's got so many properties
and so many, he's just opened up a restaurant.
Oh, he is?
Oh, so he doesn't even, Backstreet Boys is like a hobby to him.
He's like, ah.
He's probably the, I would say the smartest business man
outside of the group.
He's, that's what he does.
Like he loves real estate.
He loves that whole thing.
Smart.
Yeah, smarter than some of us.
I'm over here spending thousands on sneakers
and he's out there buying hotels and flipping houses
and that's fine, that's good.
I'm a spender too.
Did you spend a lot you think?
I went through, yeah.
I mean a lot of that was coinciding with my addiction
because cross addiction's a big thing.
So sure I was sober but I wasn't
I wasn't where I am today where like I was white knuckling it when I was over
the first time it was almost seven years
but I still needed something for the dopamine I still needed something
I well I thought I needed something let me correct myself I thought I needed
something
to fill that emptiness of like feeling good enough. Because for me that was always the root of my, of
my demise was never feeling good enough. I don't know if you could say certain words
on your show, but I suffer from the thing called piece of ****ism.
Oh, I was just going to ask, what's your mental illness?
Piece of ****ism is my, that's my, that's my mental.
Is that your only thing going on? That, well that's really what was at the epicenter of all of it for me.
And two summers ago I went away for my mental.
I went to Scottsdale, Arizona.
I did an intensive outpatient at the Meadows.
I went for sex, love, and relationship addiction.
Mainly, not so much the sex part, but it was all encompassing, but the love and
relationship side of things because, you know, my marriage was kind of not doing
well, but really it all stemmed from the relationship I didn't have with myself.
So that's where I learned about boundaries and that no is a complete
sentence. I fell in love with this amazing woman Brene Brown who is a motivational speaker. I
like
really was inspired by watching her videos when I was in group and
When I left there I still wasn't where I am now
Because I still needed to work my program. I still needed to do my step work, I still needed to shed all the crap
and to just go, you know what, you're no better and no worse than anybody else.

can't love yourself, you can't love somebody else. If you can't take care of you first, you can't
take care of your kids, your wife, your husband, your family, your
your co-workers, whoever it is.
You know fortunately for me my kids never saw me you know
messed up. They know I've explained to them they're both
sharp as a tack
and I've explained to them, you know this is what daddy did
this is why
you know if I'm on the road and I FaceTime them,
I forgot the brand, but there's a,
I'm a big fan of ginger ale, and there's a certain bottle
that looks like a beer, and anytime I have it,
dad, are you drinking?
I'm like, oh my god, no.
Number one, daddy wouldn't be FaceTiming you if I was.
Yeah, that's good, that's good.
But they're on me about it, which is good.
Well, it's interesting, like you had the love addiction
when you were like in a marriage for a long time,
because usually that wouldn't,
because I went to SLA for a minute,
but it was because I was single for so long,
so I was constantly just like finding people,
three people to hook up with a day,
you know, it was like an addiction.
But then I met my husband, I was like,
okay, I kind of filled it.
So it's interesting you had that while you were married.
Well, for me, while I was married, it was the,
it started with, how can you love a piece of,
so why are you with me?
Then it went into, wait, why are you with me?
What do you want?
And my wife is the most incredible woman in the world.
There's no, none of that is her.
And she's stuck by me through all of it.
And you know, we're separated, but we're working on us.
And like, we're in a great place right now.
And I'm hopeful.
I don't know what the future holds, but I am hopeful.
You know, I don't know what the future holds, but I am hopeful.
I don't rest my laurels on it
because I don't want to potentially be let down
and I don't wanna let her down,
but we're co-parenting and we're kicking ass at that.
I spend almost every day with my kids.
So it's actually been a blessing.
We both go do our own thing therapy wise and we might go back to couples
therapy at some point, but you know, and I would suggest that to anybody other,
even if you think you have the best relationship, it can't hurt.
You know what I mean? Like there's always going to be something, you know,
where you maybe don't know how to convey a message
to your you know significant other and you know instead of it being you you you
you have to look at yourself first you know and we've done the work. That's
amazing I think that is a big thing because we went to couples therapy too
because I have borderline personality and he didn't know what that was when we
met so I would like lash out but having like a therapist explained to him like
what triggers are and what's this and you it helps so much for the other person.
Because the person who's in the relationship with the addict,
sometimes they don't understand.
It sounds like she was very understanding,
but sometimes they don't fully understand.
Well, she went to Al-Anon back in the day.
And we have a really small but intimate, good, core group
of friends that are either in the program or
understand the program
Or have worked Alan on or know people that
Either are with an addict or understand it. So she's definitely
She gets it, you know, she gets it and you know, even my youngest is in therapy, you know
It started because of the separation but I didn't think she would love it as much and it's been
fantastic for her my oldest she's even talked about possibly doing it because
she's having a tough time right now you know school has just been kids are mean
my kids are little she yes Bullies and the whole thing.
So I think we're going to actually
we're going to take her out and homeschool.
There's a really good
program I can't
for the life of me. Think of what it's called. I know Zendaya
went to it and she speaks
volumes about it.
And so you know try
it for a year or two. I want my girls to definitely
go to high school.
That to me is like the most,
because I didn't go to high school.
I went for my freshman year and then I was
tutored for the rest of high school.
I graduated, but you know.
You had to get the experience.
Yeah, so like I never had prom.
I never went to homecoming.
I finally had prom on my 40th birthday.
My wife planned my birthday for three years
and gave me a prom.
And it was.
Was it everything?
It was epic.
We had, everybody was wearing their cheesy tuxes
and everything.
We were obviously prom king and queen.
Oh I love.
The DJ played music only from 1996.
Oh my gosh.
We had Taco Bell and In-N-Out were the official food for the event.
Our wedding planner is the one that helped her do this.
Wow.
What I thought was the most disturbing, but fun,
in the women's bathroom were condoms with my face on it.
I love that.
And I was just like, what is happening?
Well, that's 96.
Yeah, but I guess, you know, like prom,
I guess they obviously are encouraging
if you're going to do something, do it safe.
Yeah.
But again, I never experienced it,
so I don't know if that was a thing.
I'm like, what is this?
Like, there's a condom on my face on it.
That's weird.
Did you like, so you're like, you like that part.
Did you keep some?
I took a couple.
That's so cool.
You had a 96 theme prom for the year.
You were probably like, pretty famous, probably the most famous.
96 was when we really kind of kicked off.
That's when it really started.
By high school, I don't know if you were missing much,
I think that's the scariest part to me, isn't it?
We have two girls too, I'm like,
in high school is the scary part.
How old are they?
They're very young, they're three and one.
I have 12 and eight, both going on 35.
I'm gonna have a teenager this year.
It's terrifying.
Yeah, how, oh my god, I can't even imagine
how you deal with that.
I mean.
Being a girl dad is so different,
especially because you're a guy,
and you were a young guy that was a celebrity early on,
so you just know how guys are.
Yeah, and yeah.
So are you letting her date? She hasn't really brought up boys. My
youngest apparently has a boyfriend. I'm like no you don't. And then one of
her other girlfriends is dating the same boy. I'm like what is wrong with
you guys? Like no no no no no no no. Oh my god. You're eight. Fine that's fine. If you want to have a
boyfriend I don't care. Okay. But're a cool dad. But I told my oldest, I said, listen,
I got advice from a buddy of mine
who's got a 14-year-old and a 22-year-old.
And I won't name names, Joey Fatone.
But he gave me the best advice, so I told my oldest,
I said, when you do go on your first official date,
whether it's to the movies or it's the mall, and the boy
comes to pick you up, as he should, I want you to say these exact words to him before
you leave my house."
She's like, what?
I said, you need to tell him to his face, whatever you do to me, my dad's going to do
to you.
Oh!
That's it.
That's it.
Simple as that. Yikes. And hopefully put the fear of God in him.
Because I thought in my back of my mind,
I could tell that little boy, hey, see all these tattoos?
I got these in prison.
But all he has to do is Google me and be like,
you're in a boy band.
You never went to prison.
Like, damn it, you're right.
I didn't.
That's true.
It's so easily Googleable now about you. And everybody labeled me as the bad boy. And I'm to prison. I'm like, damn it, you're right, I didn't. That's true. It's so easily Googleable now about you.
So people.
And everybody labeled me as the bad boy.
And I'm so not.
I'm the biggest pushover in the world.
Not even back then?
No.
Really?
I think, look, because you dye your hair and you get tattoos,
it doesn't make you a bad.
Like, I wasn't setting my hotel room on fire.
I mean, I did throw some plastic fruit out of windows before and mess up.
I was drunk and I was just being stupid
and yeah, I messed up a couple windshields.
So you had a little bit of bad boy.
Yeah, but not.
I don't think Brian's doing that.
Definitely not.
No, he's definitely not, no, no, no, no.
He's for sure.
Do you think your look impacted you acting like that
or do you think it was more like your addiction?
When I got the label, I hadn't even put alcohol to my lips yet so like
it started when I was probably like 19 18 19. After fame. Yeah they just fans they
cuz you know in a boy band there's there's the young one there's the young
heartthrob there's the funny one there's the bad boy there's the young heartthrob, there's the funny one, there's the bad boy, there's the older brother,
and then there's like the mediator,
like the soft-spoken one, which is Howie, you know?
And then, you know, Nick's the heartthrob,
Brian's the comedian, Kevin's the old fuddy-duddy,
and then you got me.
Yeah, you were the, yeah, you and Chris Kirkpatrick
were like the ones, just because you had like crazy hair,
I think, one of you. I mean, Chris or Joey.
I mean, Joey, not so much bad boy,
but Joey and I had our fun.
Really?
We definitely had our fun.
I think that's the most shocking news of all of it,
because you guys do shows together.
Joey and I did a whole tour together.
It started as a one-off just for fans.
Joey and I do a lot of these like Comic-Cons,
because we get to
meet fans like when we do meet and greets on tour but it's it's like it's
like a cattle call I feel like you don't really get to spend time and and like
hear the stories from some of these fans like how music changed their life or how
fans that never thought they would make friends with somebody from another
country because of music,
it brings people together.
So doing these cons, I could talk to a fan
for 30 minutes if I want.
Wow.
And I do.
And you love it.
And I love it.
After all these years.
And it's so much fun, it's so much fun.
So Joey and I do a lot of these.
So we were doing one in Tampa two years ago
and he does a lot of solo shows
and a lot of things at like Disney and he does a lot of solo shows and a lot of things at like Disney and he does a lot of privates
and so he's got a whole band.
So he's like, look, we got a teleprompter,
it's a bunch of songs you know,
would you want to do a show tomorrow night?
I'm like, sure.
It's sold out in like five minutes
and he's like, what about a tour?
I was like, I got nothing going on.
And we ended up doing like 30 something shows.
But you had just finished the DNA tour
and then you were already on tour with him.
It was last year, I think, because we were talking
about going to Petonga to see you guys.
Yep, we literally finished up DNA May of 2023.
And then I took like a month off.
And then Joey and I went out.
And then in the midst of all that,
I shot a TV show for Netflix, which will
be coming out this summer.
Are you asking or is it a reality show? It's a TV show for Netflix, which will be coming out this summer.
Are you asking or is it a reality show?
It's a competition show, I'm the host.
It is called Building the Band.
It is myself, Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Rowland,
and the late Liam Payne.
It was the last thing that Liam did before he passed.
Do people know about this show?
Oh yeah, we're about to do a massive thing
coming up at the forum to kind of, it's like the,
it's almost like the up-fronts for like ABC and NBC,
all these other networks, so it's a big event coming up
to kind of kick all the new shows off for Netflix, yeah.
And you're building just A-band, boy band, pop band?
The bands, I can't give away too much.
It's a different approach to how bands come together.
It has nothing to do with any of us, I'll say that.
Okay.
So it's, yeah.
It's a really clever way for, and this show
compared to any other singing shows in my opinion,
is the way it should be.
It's, and the talent on this show, my God,
like we really set the bar.
Like, it's, these kids are incredible.
I call them kids and they're like 22, but I'm 47, man.
Like, you know.
You look great, you're 47. I'm 47, yeah. That's so crazy. Oh my, that's what I'm 47, man. In comparison, yeah. Like, you know. You look great. You're 47.
I'm 47, yeah.
That's so crazy.
Oh my god.
That's what I'm saying.
You look so good.
People who've gone through addiction just look harder
in general, but you look great.
I mean, look.
I've, you know, I refuse to, as I've said to many people
before, be a Fat Street boy.
I'm not going to be a Fat Street boy.
I can't speak on the rest of my other boys.
They're gonna do whatever they want.
They look good.
No, honestly, I saw a photo of us recently.
We just did the ACMs and I was like,
boys, we have actually aged pretty well, guys.
We could be weathered, we could be,
like I'm embracing the gray now.
I just said screw it.
I don't even care anymore.
I love it, yeah.
I don't care.
It's like, you know what? This is what it is. And people love it, I don't even care anymore. I love it, yeah. I don't care, it's like you know what,
this is what it is.
And people love it,
because your fans are also getting older,
especially the core ones, you have young ones,
but like the core ones were all like,
I'm almost 40.
I mean I'm covering the gray with the blonde,
so like, oh yeah.
I love, wait.
I'm like you know what?
Is this your natural right now gray?
Or is this the blonde?
Oh no, this is, so I've been doing this
for almost two years now.
I'm naturally like dark dark brown.
Oh.
But my wife is a hairstylist and does
professional special effects makeup.
So before I got my roots touched up last week,
she goes, babe, I'm like what?
She's like, your hair is great.
It's like white.
She can see my roots.
I'm like, really?
She's like, I can't wait to see when you go back
to your natural hair color.
It's going gonna be white.
I'm like, I kinda want that.
It looks cool, yeah.
Like I want that like silver back vibe.
I want that silver fox, let's go.
I was gonna say, would you ever grow it out
like you used to, where you had kinda like the longish hair?
I, now that I've had hair surgery twice,
I'm gonna do one more.
What's hair surgery?
What hair surgery?
So, like, basically my hairline stopped here.
Oh. So I had hair surgery, it's not plugs, So, like, basically my hairline stopped here.
So I had hair surgery, it's not plugs,
let me clarify, that's 90s.
It's, no, no, no.
What are these transplants?
Because everyone's getting it now.
Yeah, so basically they flambe your head,
they cut me open from ear to ear,
and they take out a slab of, essentially it's fat,
fatty tissue and then the hair, they separate the two,
and they put the hairs into individual groups.
There's a group like ones, twos, threes, and fours.
What people don't realize is,
in the front of your hair right now,
one of your follicles has four hairs coming out of one.
It's four, three, two, one, and then it starts over again.
So I was receding, I was going bald on my crown.
Thank you to my dad for that.
It started when I was like 20.
And so I've done this procedure now twice.
And for whatever reason, I noticed when I dyed it blonde,
it looks so full.
So I'm leaving it blonde for now and it just
seems to fit me I guess I don't know like it looks good yeah we I wasn't
really having like good hair that's so crazy cuz I I did I think Latin hair and
then it just started going bye bye oh interesting it looks so good would you
recommend it then 10 out of 10 oh absolutely absolutely yeah I mean cuz
you know you could do the propisha things and all these different like
over-the-counter medications but it's it's not the same but you really do need to do the after
care which I didn't do the first time. The first time I did this I did it right
before I got married and they didn't tell me that my old hair is gonna fall
out so I thought it didn't work so I wore a hat at my wedding because I was
like oh my god this looks even worse than it did when I was going bald.
I was like, good god.
But I know bald is kind of a good look too.
I've shaped my head completely.
Yeah, I think it looks cool on people.
I have a nice, thank god I have a nicely shaped head.
Yeah, and you wear hats a lot too.
But also I don't mind bald either.
I know I feel bad for guys.
It's like, it's whatever.
It is what it is.
I mean, look, but I have done,
the only thing I've done, I guess you could say,
cosmetically, after I did Drag Race. I have done, the only thing I've done, I guess you could say, cosmetically,
after I did Drag Race.
I want you to want that too.
I, cause I had to shave obviously for the show.
Genetically in my family, I had like extra skin here,
so I always had a big beard, I was very insecure about it.
So when I did Drag Race, you know,
they're taping and tucking things and pulling things back
and they pulled back my neck and I got to see
what I looked like with like a good jaw line
and I was like, oh my God, like I want this.
Life changing.
So I went and did lipo and face tight
and it has given me so much confidence
and I'm just like, now I'm.
It looks so good.
I'll take a picture
with like with like a profile now like I would not that's what it is to let you
look young because the neck is always like the sign of aging like my mom will
always tell me that she got her neck done and mine too but that's why you
look so young because your neck is like oh yeah how you doing
I'm all long neck like a giraffe. I love it. When did you get it done? I got it done, I want to say almost two years ago now.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah, about 18 months.
Close by?
Yep, and then actually, yeah, out here, Dr. Schwartz.
I need a name.
Dr. Schwartz is my man.
Dr. Schwartz is great.
Right over here, just over off of Lendero.
Really?
He's incredible.
I love how open you are about literally everything.
I'm gonna probably, before we go back
and start the residency, I'm gonna go get threads. I've how open you are about literally everything. Well, I'm going to probably, before we go back and start
the residency, I'm going to go get threads.
I've done that a couple of times, too, just to really
tighten up for, you know.
And does it hurt?
I've never done that.
No.
No, I mean, it's just, you know, they numb you really quick,
and they go in, and they just, you know,
give you a little pull.
But the thing is, like, you know, if I really, really,
really want, like, jagged jawline,
which I don't, the only way to do it is a facelift.
And I'm never gonna do that.
Well because I have a beard and my doc was telling me,
he's like look, to really get it,
where your hair ends here would be right next to your ear
and that's gonna look so obvious.
You would have to trim this down.
I'm like, yeah, that's not gonna happen.
People are good with those face lifts,
so like Kris Jenner is like,
I'm excited to get one one day.
Yeah, I'm leaving it alone.
I'm gonna do all the rest natural in the gym
and see what happens, but.
Even for when you do your drag,
you talked about celebrity drag race,
which I had no idea you did.
I have no idea how I missed this,
but Poppy Love, winner of Celebrity Drag Race.
Is this the only Celebrity Drag Race
that existed just one season?
So this was the second Secret Celebrity.
The first one after that, I guess,
Mama Ru got a little upset because somebody leaked
who was on the show and who won.
So this time, myself, Tatiana Ali, and Mark Inocchiello,
we were the final three.
So we each filmed ourselves winning.
But production wouldn't tell us.
We had to watch it live.
So I didn't know.
And I kept hitting up the producers saying, come on.
You got to give me something.
I got to know.
And they're like, we don't know.
I'm like, you're lying.
I know you know who won.
So I watched it in real time with my daughters, which was awkward because I knew what my finale
performance was, which was the divinals.
I touched myself, me in a bathtub.
I'm like, oh God.
And he watches it.
I love it.
Dude, the questions were just like, dad, what are you doing?
I'm like, mm.
You're like, it's performative.
They were traumatized when I did burlesque,
and my tatas were out with my little tassels.
That I had to really explain.
I got to keep my boobs and my butt padding.
You're padding.
Do you still wear it?
No, but I'll put the boobs on every once in a while
when I make coffee, just to mess with my kids.
Actually?
I love that.
I'll put them on under my shirt, and I'm like,
good morning, girls.
They're like, dad. Oh my god, but I love that. like dad. I'm like yeah. You don't yeah you don't
do that. Dude they gave me the heaviest boobs like so Kevin McHale was on as
well and I love Kevin he's one of my buddies. We have a same body shape and
I'm like why didn't you put me in the like they made me like they made
me thick like they gave me some curves and I'm like okay but like my boobs were
so heavy interest was it a plate was it a no it was it was like like silicone
with like a Velcro strap in the back but you have like nine layers of I had nine
layers of pantyhose on and then a lot of the outfits were
really mainly predominantly like latex so it was tight enough like when I pull
those things off it was just like water like but I did learn and for all the new
drag queens out there let me give you a little bit of advice that I learned
during the show nine layers of pantyhose That's too much to put any heels on so we would cut the toe off
It's the summer big red cell Canadian tire save up to 50%
What are you doing? These are the biggest deals of the season? I'm shouting it from the rooftop
You have a radio ad you don't need to be up there
The summer big red sale is on from June 5th to June 12th conditions apply details online
So that there's nothing protecting my toes. So it was like much more easy to breathe and
it wasn't as compact in there. Cause. But what are you wearing for shoes? Are you wearing
like boots? No, I was wearing six inch freaking heels. I was dancing in stilettos and in pumps.
All of it. And your toes were fine. They weren't bleeding. Um, episode one, well it wasn't episode one,
but it was the first one I shot was Alana Smoresett,
and God bless the stylist, she was so nervous
working with me, she gave me my shoes backwards.
So I performed with the heels on the wrong feet.
So that was the worst. Oh my God.
And they were only about a four inch heel. So, but that
was still a lot. I can't do four inch. But I can rock six inches with the best of them.
Like pleaser. I wore heels at my wedding. When we cut our cake, I was in full drag.
I love, we both, I wore a black wedding dress too. So we have that in common. We both wear
a black wedding dress. The heels were every, where was that like, what were you thinking
behind that? You guys did a little swap. She wore like a little tux. She had a beautiful Dolce and Gabbana custom suit
and I was wearing the largest size Louboutin makes
which is a woman's 13 which is an 11 for me.
And then I had a corset that was made.
What's funny is like she has,
she's Greek, Italian and Mexican.
So she has the Greek side of her
family and then there's the Greek Orthodox side of her family oh they
weren't having it like they wouldn't take a picture with me now we're all
cool but at first they were like yeah we're not taking a picture with that
that's what is going on they didn't know that about you like you know they
because we came out to cut the cake and it's like what is going on
I remember when it happened I was dancing on the freaking you. Oh yeah, and I was dancing on the freaking, you know,
dance floor and all the other wives and ladies there
were taking their heels off dancing.
I'm like, come on!
I love, wait, so is it always in you?
Like, the drag, cross-dressing, like,
is it something you've always liked doing?
I've just, I'm just comfortable, like,
it's so weird to say that I used to have, like,
zero self-esteem, but I'm comfortable in my own skin
when it comes to any and all of that.
Like I would put on my mom's jewelry.
You know, I grew up in musical theater.
So I grew up surrounded by predominantly women
and the gay community.
Yeah.
That was it.
Like, so, you know, I saw my first pair of boobs
when I was four at a fashion show., my acting teacher when I did theater,
she was gay, and like, so I saw women with women,
I saw men with men, like nothing,
it never like was odd to me.
And the same that we kind of encourage with my daughters,
like, it's all blurred lines, they don't see gender, don't see any of that and I and that's what we've
encouraged for them you know and so like they have their gunkles and they have
their you know their whole vibe and I just love it. So you don't have to question it. Yeah that's what's beautiful.
What is beautiful about today well the fact you experienced that back in like probably
the early 90s is amazing. Early 90s, late 80s, early 90s yeah like I just you know I it's just to me it's normal. Do you identify as hetero or are you like
fluid or queer? No I'm straight as an arrow. Okay. But I just just love embrace it.
I mean yeah like I just want people to love themselves and love each other like
I don't care what your preference is. It shouldn't have anything to do with anything.
If you're a good human being and you are a provider,
you take care of your family, you take care of yourself,
you're good at your job, who gives a sh- if you're black,
white, Asian, trans, you know, whatever you are,
it shouldn't matter, it shouldn't matter. white, Asian, trans, you know, whatever you are.
It shouldn't matter.
It shouldn't matter.
You had a song this year, Love is Love.
Love Song Love.
Love Song Love, yes.
It came out Valentine's Day this year.
And I had two beautiful transgender ladies in there
that were incredible.
Amazing.
Incredible, and we had a little diary moment at the end of the video telling everybody
where to go to support the transgender community.
When I did Drag Race I was playing for, because that was all for like charity, each of us
would play for charity.
I played for a charity called Trans Lifeline.
We just donated Trans Lifeline because the Protect the Dolls shirt, they all go to Trans
Lifeline.
Discover them, they're amazing.
Oh they are, they're fan- fan freaking-tastic. Yeah so I mean I just you know I
briefly was on the board for the LGBTQ plus community years ago I want to get back on the
board I wasn't able to be present for all the meetings and for all the things and I was
traveling but I want to I want to get even more in. Like I'm really trying to do a lot of stuff with Lance.
Lance and I are like the closest,
and Lance does so much in the community,
and I really want to start doing a lot more stuff with him.
And I also want to bring Poppy back.
I want to do DragCon so bad.
Have you not done it?
I don't think you're doing it this year.
I've never been, I heard it is the best time. There's also, there's also an AA meeting.
It's like one of the top drag AA meetings. It's in, I think it's in Silver Lake.
And apparently it's some of the most incredible stories. You like, you go in,
it's like a party. Yeah. But the stories that these people share is like,
God, like oh my, like you know,
like you leave there so inspired, so encouraged.
So I-
Dry queens are like the epitome of all our culture,
of everything, they start the culture,
they start the trends.
My publicist is gay and she told me,
she's like when I get married,
she's like all I ask is that,
cause I'm ordained,
she's like all I ask is that because I'm ordained She's like all I ask is that you marry me as poppy. I said I will absolutely do that
I said, but please don't make me shave. I really cuz my kids hate when I shave, but you have
Maybe well for her. Okay, maybe I'll do it for her. I would do anything. She's been with me for like 15 years
She's incredible. Yeah
like I try to explain, like, we need our face
to breathe once in a while.
I tried the Just mustache.
That did not go over well.
What is that?
Oh, just everything?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I like the mustache.
That's very, like, in now, people are doing that.
But I like my wife, not a fan.
She's like, you look like Mario or like the 70s star.
It's not OK.
Like, I think Benson Boone is a really good looking dude
and I like the mustache.
That's the vibe now, that's what everyone's doing.
I can't picture him without it now.
I don't know what he would look like without it.
No, it's very him.
He has all the flips.
Are you a flipper?
I wouldn't get back up.
No.
I don't know why.
Back in the day, we used to do kip-ups
and all that kind of stuff, but now, walking in here, when I got here today,
I got out of my truck and I'm just like, ugh.
My hips bothering me, my shoulder's bad.
I'm going to get an MRI next week.
Like, I don't know what's going on.
From dancing, maybe.
You guys dance a lot.
But we haven't done anything in like a year and a half.
So I don't know.
You have.
Well, I have.
But.
You're doing drag. Your kids going to know. I don't know. Well you have. Well I have but. You're doing drag.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I think it's just, I'm a big golfer so I don't know if that's, and I'm in the gym six days
a week so I don't know if that kind of is coinciding with anything but.
You think that would help it.
I mean you're really fit if you're doing all that.
We'll see.
I can't do anything about it until after the residency so I can't, you know, if there's
any surgery involved I don't know.
So the pain, what do you do just push through yeah
like I don't like taking I don't like taking things to help things yeah I'm
one of those the only thing I do take which my friend was getting on me about
on the way here don't don't take Zyrtec I'm like allergies so I take Zyrtec for
like allergies but now she's telling me there's bad things with Zyrtec. What? Really? I'm like next thing you know they're gonna say
cheese gives you cancer like honestly like there's nothing good anymore. You just
can't eat or do anything. No. You just gotta go live on the Erawan diet and then you'll be
fine. Are you an Erawan person? I love their breakfast. Anything breakfast there is phenomenal.
The cali-oochies smoothie just came out today. She has one there now.
You guys should have one.
I know.
Why don't we?
AJ should definitely.
I mean, I did like, was it the Haley Bieber?
That was a good one.
Yeah.
It's still there.
That one's iconic.
That's a good one.
Yeah.
I'm going to air one.
It's coming here, close to us.
There's 1,000 Oaks one coming.
Yes, I heard.
I'm like, so do I just go in and say, hey, make
one inspired by us?
Do that.
How do you do it?
Well, they must see you.
They must be like, you should have one.
I don't know if I can.
You got to tag them.
You do TikTok, but you don't post a lot.
I don't post as much anymore because I'm
gearing up for solo music, my EP coming out this summer.
So that, I'm like, that's all I'm focused on right now,
is like, because normally I like to post funny stuff,
and like, I don't like to go necessarily
along with the trends.
I like to just do random whatever stuff, you know,
probably one of the biggest TikToks I ever did
was recreating the couch scene from Friends.
I'm the biggest Friends fanatic, like obsessed.
Where'd you do it at?
Was it at Warner Brothers?
It was at, no, it was at Lance's house.
We were doing this little thing
and Joey was there and Nick was there.
We did a show for Pride.
And we were in rehearsals at Lance's house.
And I was like, guys, just go with me on this.
If you don't know what it is, it doesn't matter.
I said, we're gonna move this couch inside.
And I had Joey saying, pivot, pivot.
And that's on TikTok.
Oh my God, it's like 10 million views.
It was insane.
Is that your biggest one?
That one and then I am partners with this company
called AT Peek, which is a mocktail company
based out of Montreal.
And that one got like 8 million views
because A, it's a mocktail which
you know it's great and these are great like mocktails have become a thing now
everywhere you go that's what I order now if they have it you know I'm trying
to get away from I'm a diet coke kid so trying to get away from it it's so bad
well mocktails are good like yeah like I just started liking bubbly water.
I'm not a big, it has to have a flavor.
Yeah, a little kick.
I can't eat a burger with water.
It just seems wrong.
Really?
I'm surprised.
I don't know.
I need something with some kind of fizz.
So I just get a mocktail.
Preferably cucumber.
It's ATP, is that the name of the brand? ATPK. ATPK. ATPK. kind of fizz. So I just get a mocktail. Preferably cucumber.
It's ATP, you said is the name of the phrase?
ATP.
ATP.
ATP.
A-T-Y-P-I-Q-U-E.
ATP.
Very French.
You're involved in that or no?
I am.
I'm an ambassador for the company.
We did a TikTok.
Or you did a TikTok where people could duet you.
And I was looking at, I typed our names in together.
And I was like, oh, I duetted you like four years ago.
And I think you were singing, I Want It That Way.
And you encouraged people to duet with you,
so we did a little duet on there.
Which I think you should do more of,
because your singing is just, it is just beautiful.
I'll probably start doing some.
I duetted one of my man crushes.
I duetted Ryan Reynolds, and he commented,
and I lost my shit.
I woke up my family at three in the morning.
Ryan said I'm awesome! I'm like, oh my god. Did you actually? I literally, I woke up my family at three in the morning. Ryan said I'm awesome!
I'm like, oh my god.
Did you actually?
I literally, I woke up my wife at three in the morning.
I was in Vegas doing the residency at the time
and I literally woke her up at three in the morning.
She's like, okay, it's worth you waking me up.
I know she knows I'm the biggest Ryan fanatic.
Did you try to DM him after?
Be like, hey.
I just said thank you
cause he responded and said top five bucket list sing with AJ from the Backstreet Boys and I was like
Have you ever met in person then?
No, closest I got was recently I went to see opening night of Hugh Jackman show on Broadway at Radio City and
He was there and he was like a hundred feet away from me and I was like
He was there and he was like a hundred feet away from me and I was like
Just I'm one of those people that won't approach celebrities. I don't do it. My wife gets on me about it all the time She's like do you not know who you are?
Yeah, it doesn't matter to me because there's a lot of actors singers actresses that I admire so much
In my mind, I'm like like what if I walk up and I
meet them and they're a total f***ing a**hole. That would destroy me. Yes. So now if I see you from across the
carpet and you smile at me that to me is inviting. You go say hi. That means you're like oh okay
we just made like a little hey how are you moment then I'll walk up and I'll
introduce myself. And will you say I'm a fan absolutely yeah I completely fangirl
if it's right I will wanna I fangirled over Marcus Mumford like I love Mumford
and Sons and he is like that man is a hot hot man now gorgeous oh my god he's
a gorgeous man okay so we just did the SNL 50th and they were there and I was like dude
How do you how do you just like do you wake up looking this handsome every day?
I would tell that I did oh my percent saying like your sexuality seems fluid to me
You're very like you like me you know people like like my one of my buddies used to say in complete darkness
It matters not the gender of the mouth. What?
Yeah.
You're like, wait, what?
No, like I love everyone, honest to God.
And it's just I'm a people person.
I just am.
And it will never matter to me.
I just love people.
It's weird, though.
I've kind of gotten into this phase now for some reason, I don't know if it's just age
or just like I'm hyper sensitive, but like,
I used to jump into the crowd during our shows
and I don't do that much anymore.
It's like crowds scare me for some reason now.
Like recently, like in the last five years,
like being in a, like I don't do yeah. Recently, like in the last five years, like being in a,
like I don't do the club thing, like I never go to clubs,
cause clubs are not, you go to a club to dance.
That is the, that's what we remember.
That's what we did at clubs.
All people do at clubs now is sit, blackout drunk,
and take pictures.
That's not a club.
You don't love that?
No.
You're not a selfie king.
You're supposed to dance. You should not a club. You don't love that. No. You're not a selfie king. You're supposed to dance.
You should leave a club sweating.
Right.
Not leave a club still looking exactly the way
you did when you walked in, except your shoes are off
and you're blackout drunk.
Yeah.
I think social media maybe ruined
that aspect of the fun part of the clubs.
Yeah.
Or you're at the club with your friends
and you're literally texting the person right next to you.
Like, talk to them.
Yeah, I am with you on that too.
There's such a departure and a disconnect.
It's like, when TikTok shut down for 24 hours,
like I was like, this is awesome.
Like I would love to see social media shut down for a month,
all social media, and just see how we react.
We would actually have to talk to each other
and communicate with each other.
And like, I do something every morning
that was inspired by Denzel Washington.
He made this amazing, like,
this is kind of how he starts his day,
and it really inspired me.
I start my day off with prayer and meditation every day,
but before I touch a device,
I have 10 minutes of just silence, nothing.
I don't, you could call it meditation, whatever,
but nothing.
And what I hear is peace. then I can dive into insanity if I start off
with chaos yes my day is set up to be chaotic generally speaking life that's
what I've done to change my life completely is like starting out the day
like 20 minutes and we have two young kids and they sleep with us but I'm like
I need to just like lock myself in the closet for literally 15 minutes luckily
I have a husband that like lets me do it and just like having quiet like not gonna is life changing.
I miss my kids sleeping with me. I still get my cuddles though. Like my
oldest now she's she'll come she's like she has to come to me. Where my youngest
it's like it's cuddles cuddles cuddles all day every day. She's my little cuddle bug
but my oldest especially if her friends are at the house,
and I do it just to mess with her.
Yeah.
I'm always giving her hugs and trying to, she's like, dad.
Wait, really?
Dad.
You're like the ultimate cool dad, though.
She's watching.
Your dad is the coolest person.
Everybody wants to be your friend.
I just had a full rager at my house,
and I never have parties.
I had a full rager for 12-year-olds house with all the families a little kickoff to summer and like
there all her friends are still talking about it and I'm like and all the boys
that came over like they saw my sneakers and my toys and they're like dude can I
try on your Iron Man helmet I'm like yes you yes you can. Oh my, you got them.
Oh yeah, oh yeah.
Oh wow, you are cool, dad.
What does that party look like?
Cause we have a party tomorrow for our one year old,
he's turning one, it's like Lilo's,
are you getting like the-
Lilo, it's Lilo, I have to say something.
Oh, that's pretty good.
Do you wanna come be the Stitch impersonator?
I literally have like,
we just went and saw the movie,
we just went and saw a screener.
The premiere? Well, not the premiere, we went and saw a little, we just went and saw a screener. The premiere?
Well, not the premiere, we went and saw a little private screener.
And it was great.
I'm so excited.
And I got the limited popcorn bucket and then my buddy Andreas Moss, who's one of my writers,
his boyfriend makes, he's from Mexico, he makes like pinatas,
but like woven, like traditional,
but like the most insane pinatas.
He made me a freaking stitch for my kids.
It is,
I don't have to show you, oh my God,
it is, he can make anything.
It is dope, he's here in LA.
Phenomenal, oh my God.
Did you use it, did you already use it?
No, no, no, it's not meant toata. Oh my god. Oh my gosh. Did you use it? Did you already use it?
No, no, no.
It's not meant to break.
It's like a piece of art.
Oh, art.
Yeah.
Oh my god.
Beautiful.
I can't wait to touch it.
This is for a one year old though.
Like Rager for a one year old.
But we did like Dole Whip.
We got Hula Dancers coming, Face Paint.
But like, I don't know.
What do you do for like a 12 year old?
A 12 year old?
I mean, they just went in the pool.
I have a theater at the house,
so they were playing Fortnite.
I just like.
You're not on Fortnite?
I refuse to play it,
because I'm a gamer.
Okay, you'll get addicted?
Yeah.
I'm an addict, so yes, of course.
I'm waiting for Grand Theft Auto.
I'm waiting for that.
Okay.
But, like, I played Fortnite with my daughter,
and I'm like, I need to walk away.
Like, this will suck me in.
Is Backstreet Boys on there?
No, we don't have a skin yet, but I'm working on that for us.
I feel like it must be, yeah.
We were on Roblox, which was pretty cool.
Yeah.
Because that was all the rage during the pandemic.
It still is, obviously.
Yeah.
For a one-year-old, I mean, it sounds like what you're doing
is absolutely perfect.
I know.
Hula dancers, the hula hooping, face paints. Yeah, that sounds kind of perfect.
Because her name's Elvis, so we're
trying to think of Elvis theme, and we didn't
want to do like an Elvis Presley.
So we're like, I guess we'll do Elvis Stitch,
even though she's named after Elvis Presley.
But I'm like, yeah, it's cooler for a kid.
Pretty awesome.
But how did you know you were done having kids?
Because that's our problem is like,
I'm like, I can't keep on having kids.
So I thought I was done after one,
because I'm an only child.
So when Elliot was born, you know, kids. So I thought I was done after one because I'm an only child so when
Elliot was born you know she was just so like a people person she was independent
I thought we were good like it was fine and then I am the one that got baby
fever because you know I was the one dad that did pick up and drop off every day
so like I started seeing all of her friends
like in TK and kindergarten that all have siblings
and I was like, man, that looks awesome.
Like I didn't have that so I kind of want that for her.
So I was like, babe, we're making a baby, let's go.
And I really wanted another girl.
Yeah.
People always say that, like are are you trying for a boy?
It's like, no, I love being a girl mom.
Well, when we had Elliot, I didn't speak,
when I found out it was a girl,
I didn't speak for like 12 hours.
I was traumatized, because I was like, of course.
Like, it's a blessing and a curse, you know.
I had my ho days, you know, in my life, and you know.
But even still, I've always prided myself
on being a gentleman.
Like that was how I was raised.
I've always put women up on a pedestal.
Like that was just how, and just utmost respect.
But when I found out I was having a girl,
I was like, oh my God.
Like what am I gonna do?
Like, but now that I'm a girl dad,
like I don't think I would know what to do with a penis.
Honestly, I don't,
golf's the only sport I play.
But having girls, we go get our nails done together,
we go shopping together, it's the freaking best.
I love it.
Oh my gosh, that is amazing.
Yeah, your nails are always perfectly manicured.
Your jewelry.
I have a nail polish line. I have a beauty line.
With the name of your daughter.
That was inspired by my daughter's, yeah, Ava Dean.
So I've got to get you some polish for sure.
Oh, that's Maloos' favorite.
We have polish, we have lip gloss, we have body spray,
we have body scrubs.
I'll get all.
My 2 and 1 half-year-old paints our nails all day long.
She loves painting.
Done, I got you.
Oh my god, you do so much.
We have like 25 colors.
I didn't know you were such an entrepreneur.
It's crazy.
I'm trying. You know, were such an entrepreneur. I'm trying, I'm trying.
It's a process, because everything I've done outside of the group, it's gotten to a point,
but then I, because I'm so busy, I can't continue the moving forward.
So I'm waiting for that one thing to just take off.
But I need to be, I'm a very hands-on person, so I wanna be as active
as I can, so I wanna get back into the beauty space.
What I wanna do with Ava Deen is,
both my girls wear makeup, they learned everything
from mom, cause mom's a professional makeup artist,
but they're wearing adult makeup,
which is not good for kids' skin,
so I wanna make makeup for kids.
Oh, that's so smart.
You know, so, I mean, you wanna go to,
you wanna do this together?
Please, I would love. Let's do this.
Oh my God, it's one shark tank.
Let's do it.
I mean, I just need to, you know,
that's the thing about,
my wife went through school with all of it,
so she knows the right chemicals that
should it be in and that should be in or whatever
and like ways to make it work.
There is nothing for like five to fifteen.
That is so true.
Because Malmo, my two and a half year old wears makeup.
She puts makeup on and they do the plain makeup but it still has that like weird chalk on
it or whatever.
Yeah and it's not good for their pores and for their skin.
Yeah, it irritates.
You know, what's crazy, like what people don't understand between men and women, women's pores are smaller and tighter.
Men's pores are much more wide.
So like, you know, I used to be a big Mac guy.
Now I'm like makeup forever is what I love
because it's much more oil-based.
So like, I wear makeup every day.
So this-
Are you wearing it now?
Oh yeah.
Oh, so good.
You know, I mean, I got a wife that knows
what she's doing.
She's taught me the tricks of the trade.
I was just saying, it looks so good.
That's another reason you look so, you look flawless.
I don't know if it's showing up on camera,
but like you look flawless.
Like it's crazy, no wrinkles, nothing.
That's why I really thought you had a face lift.
I was like, hmm.
I woke up like this.
Well, it looks like it.
With a baseball cap on.
I live in my hats and I sleep in my sneakers.
It's a vibe, no, you are a vibe 100%.
I know you're going to have a date with your daughters today.
Are you so excited?
Yeah, we're going to go.
I've never been to the Getty Museum.
I haven't either.
You said that as a...
I drive past it all the time and I've never been.
And I'm a huge art guy and I've been wanting to go,
but I've never had anyone to go with.
And I didn't think my kids would be into music.
Art.
Is that what it art. I'm not
gonna say museum because you're teasing me about how I say it. What do you say?
How do you say it? Museum. Oh museum yeah you do say it. You say museum. Museum. Where are you
from? East Coast I'm from Florida. Oh you're Florida. Or as I call it Satan's
hole. Yes I refuse to go to Florida. Florida. Okay, do you say orange or orange?
Orange.
Orange?
Orange.
I say orange.
Orange.
Florida people scare, we have a 35 city tour we're just about to finish and I didn't do
one day in Florida because Florida terrifies me.
It's scary.
Okay, do you say pocketbook or purse?
Purse.
Pocketbook is crazy.
Soda or pop?
Pop.
Trash can or garbage can?
Trash can.
Are you all opposite of these?
Tunnel or dark, scary place?
I mean, I think maybe yours is a little different,
because I've never heard anyone call it a pocketbook.
A pocketbook, yeah.
From like the 1950s, maybe.
My mom, well, now she's more purse.
But like, pocketbook is from like,
that's a very East Coast, like Jersey, New York, Pocketbook, Pop, Garbage Pail.
Garbage Pail.
Garbage Pail.
But you're Florida, so that's more like South.
It's South, but all the good New Yorkers
moved to Florida when they want to retire.
So we have a lot of New York in Florida.
A lot of New York in Florida.
I didn't know that about you.
Well, I had to ask real quick before you go.
Do you have a karaoke song that you like love
or is there, does it love?
There is.
What is it?
It's not a Backstreet Boys song.
No?
There is two karaoke songs,
Sweet Transvestite from Rocky Horror
and Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel.
Oh my, wait those are two very different songs.
Oh, cause you're a musical theater kid so you like.
Well, and that's one of the characters
I've always wanted to play is Dr. Frankenfurter.
And Rocky Horror is not doing it anymore as far as Broadway.
I think they do still have a traveling show.
When I did the tour with Joey,
I got to finally do it live.
And the first time I did it, my mom was in the audience
and she was just over the moon,
because she knows how much I love Rocky Horror.
Pantyhose and everything?
I didn't have time to change.
I wanted to do the full corset and everything.
But to sing Sweet Transvestite, because I got to meet Tim
Curry years ago, and it's so sad that he had the stroke.
But he's still doing his thing.
He's iconic.
But he is a legend.
Would you sing On the Spot?
Sure. Do you want to do that one? Because I love singing. I'm not a singer, by the sing on the spot? Sure.
Do you want to do that one?
Because I love singing.
I'm not a singer, by the way, but I love singing.
Do which one, though?
Either, I like Sweet Transvestite.
I got to think of the words now.
How do you do I?
See you met my faithful handyman.
By the way I look, don't touch a book by its cover.
I'm just a sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania.
Why don't you come up to the lab and see what's on the slab?
I see you shiver with antis-pation.
But maybe the way isn't really to blame.
I'll remove the cause, but not the symptom.
Dejane!
You are probably the first person, maybe the second person to sing with me and that was
the best, that was the highlight of my life.
And honestly, it was too much childhood heroes sang with me.
Everyone else is too scared.
Donny has been saying with me and AJ from the Backstreet Boys sang with me and honestly,
I can't go up from there.
So thank you so much.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for singing.
Thank you for being so open.
Always. You're so wonderful. I'm excited to start this makeup line with you. Besties for life. Thank you for being here. Thank you for singing. Thank you for being so open. Always. You're so wonderful.
I'm excited to start this makeup line with you.
Besties for life.
Besties for life.
Besties for life.
I'm going to see you at the Sphere.
It'll be like a week before I get birthed,
but I think we can make it up there.
I'm down to come.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
We're super excited.
Everyone, AJ McLean.
We'll see you guys July 11th.
Kick off.
Bye.
