Bottom line, headline,
00:37yeah, it's good for you. But here's why. There have been so many studies done on this. And most of us were raised where sex was bad, wrong, dirty, or something you only did undercertain circumstances. So we have lots of inhibitions about it. But the bottom line issex is good for your mind, your body, your relationship, and even your spirit. Okay.So let's start with your body. Sex keeps your arteries clear because you're creating maximumblood flow when you're getting aroused and working toward even orgasm. But just arousal itself iskeeping the pipes clean. It helps stave off cardiovascular disease. It gets your heart rateup. It's really good exercise. And that's why they say you have to be able to walk up two flights of
01:26steps without chest pains or shortness of breath to even being conditioned to have sex. So sexpromotes good blood flow. It also helps with period cramps. Orgasms do. There've been studiesthat have shown that when women have period cramps or even migraines, I know those are two times wherethe last thing you feel like doing is having an orgasm, but orgasms actually tremendously helpboth cramps, period cramps, and migraines. It also, from an emotional mental standpoint,is really good for depression. It staves off depression. It increases dopamine levels. Itincreases feelings of joy and aliveness, not just because of the relationship benefits of it,but just internally, chemically. So it's good for your heart. It's good for your blood flow.
02:16It's good for your hormones. It is good for your emotional life. And it also obviously is good foryour relationship. Couples who are physically intimate and sustain physical intimacy havesignificantly higher levels of emotional intimacy. Emotional intimacy and physical intimacy go handin hand. So when you are feeding and fueling your sexual connection and keeping that sexualconnection strong, your emotional connection and commitment is even stronger and your relationshipsatisfaction is even stronger. Hey, it's Dr. Laura Berman. I've been a sex, love and relationshiptherapist for over 30 years. And the main question I always get asked is how the heck do we spice itup in a long-term monogamous relationship? Well, if you want to take your love life, your sex life

Let me know what you think. So from even a spiritual standpoint, our bodies, even though we're many of us weren't taught thisgrowing up, our bodies are these beautiful machines, but they are designed for pleasure. And when we allow ourselves to attune to all of our senses and live in our sensuality, our spirit feels fulfilled.
04:12And when you ask people, and there have been some really interesting reports on this, when you ask people about fulfillment, about their sense of spiritual fulfillment, those people, I mean, they could be having sex with someone else or be in a sexual relationship or be a monk somewhere or a priest in a monastery somewhere, that when they are attuned to their senses and their sensual awareness and they are feeding and fueling their sensual connection, this could be with another partner this could be through self-stimulation or as one priest told menot long ago through chocolate is how he does it and through communion with god that it fuels deepand abiding aliveness a sense of oneness a sense of wonder and a sense of connection not only toa potential partner, but to all that is. So there are so many beautiful benefits of an active sexlife. And you don't have to have a partner to enjoy sex. You can have sex with the one personyou should maybe love more than all else, yourself, because that's where your love foreveryone else starts. So go forth and enjoy sex. Trust that it's good for you, especially and only
05:33when it's consensual and mutual, but keep doing it. Don't let it go by the wayside because it'snecessary for a healthy body and a healthy mind and a healthy relationship.
