Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Tennessee Titans Brian Callahan SAFE ALL SEASON, Cam Ward Was RIGHT & CONTAINING KYLER MURRAY
Episode Date: October 2, 2025The Tennessee Titans are now 0-4 and Brian Callahan should be fired, but according to a recent report from ESPN, that may not happen until after the season as the Titans want to be patient and give Ca...llahan a fair chance, but that time has already past and no matter the new issues, Callahan must go to accomplish certain goals in 2025. Cam Ward made headlines with his assessment of the team after their Week 4 loss and since we have heard from Callahan and Jeffery Simmons, who seem to be upset with what Ward said, but the truth is Cam Ward was right and it is about time someone said it. Ward will need to back it up this week though along with Dan Moore and Tyjae Spears, who is set to make his season debut. Finally, the Titans don't look like a team that is ready to win a game, so it is hard to pick them to win or cover the 8.5 points they are laying in the desert. According to a new report, the Tennessee Titans might keep Brian Callahan all season.
And that would be a massive mistake.
That more on today's edition of Locked on Titans.

On today's show
Of course it's a game plan Friday
I'm gonna go over my keys to victory
I'm gonna go over my players to watch
my predictions for this game.
But we got to start with this new report saying that the Titans
might be looking to keep Brian Callahan all season long.
And again, I think that would be a massive mistake.
Before we dive in, do want to thank you for making Locked on Titans,

tuning in Monday through Friday. Couldn't do it without you guys.
If you aren't an everydayer, you need to be one again.
The Tennessee Titans have had a tough start to the season,
but I think there is a chance that they could turn it around,
and it sounds like the Tennessee Titans organization up top
thinks that they might be able to turn things around as well.
But we got a big time report from Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler
from ESPN during the week talking about the vibes
with the Tennessee Titans and Brian Callahan's job status.
and I just wanted to go over a few things from that report.
But before I do, I do want to say that I think keeping Brian Callahan the entire season would be a mistake.
I think even if the Tennessee Titans were to turn it around a little bit at the end of the year,
which quite honestly is what I predicted when we looked at the schedule,
I said the Titans would come out and go 1 in 8, 0 and 9 going into the buy, be terrible,
and then they might get 4 or 5 wins after the buy and finish the season strong.
But even if that were to happen,
I think we've seen enough from Brian Callahan and his coaching staff
that it would be a terrible idea to let him go into 2026 with the same job.
I think he's proven already that he is not the man for the job
and if the Titans want to let him finish out the season
because they're worried about the holes it would create
or the instability or whether things would even get better
then sure fine understandable but the moment the season ends
Brian Callahan needs to be fired and the Tennessee Titans need to start looking for a long-term coach
that can actually develop Cam Ward and get the best out of some of these players,
a professional head football coach, which I believe that we already have our answer that Brian Callahan is not.
But I do want to go through some of the things that they said in this ESPN report.
Jeremy Fowler said, quote,
there's moderate concern among the coaching staff that the front office and ownership might not be as patient
as they originally believed, which could lead to change sooner,
then later. The proverbial vibes simply are not good right now.
The front office entered the season with optimism around head coach Brian Callahan.
He was a hot name on the coaching circuit in 2024.
And though it wouldn't set a win-loss goal in regard to his tenure,
Titans Brass wanted to see the team is improving.
That's hardly the case in Tennessee,
where a minus 69 point differential through four games is by far
The worst in the league next closest is New Orleans at minus 55.
The overall lack of flow from week to week is only intensifying the discomfort.
Callahan relinquished play calling duties to assistant Beau Hard degree a week ago
and they thought that could buy the staff a little more time.
But firing him a week after such change would be counterproductive.
So there you go.
The Titans organization is saying, you know,
taking only a week after the play calling changes doesn't give you enough time
to evaluate Brian Callahan and whether he's been better with the change.
Fowler continued, the Titans' buy week as week 10, which feels important.
But the expectation among some around the league I've talked to
is the temperature is increasing, especially with owner Amy Adam Strunk's willingness
to make drastic changes in recent years, end quote.
And see, that last sentence,
the temperature is increasing, especially with the owner Amy Adams Strunk willingness
to make drastic change.
I think that Amy Adams Strunk doesn't want to appear as someone,
who makes drastic changes too quickly.
Like, I don't think that's the reputation that she wants.
So I think that will lead to Brian Callahan getting more time.
But I think it is important here that they point out the buy week is important.
I get it if you want to let Brian Callahan have until the buy week.
You know, that's week 10 for the Titans.
You want to give them nine games.
See if things get better,
especially after the shakeup where he gave up play calling.
Absolutely.
I guess I understand that.
But it goes back to my point of, you cannot give this dude the entire year.
If they go into the bye week and they're 0 and 9, they're 1 and 8,
you cannot give Brian Callahan the entire season.
And at the end of the day, you want to see this team improve.
We all knew, at least if you were honest.
Now, it reminds me of the people in my comment section before the season saying,
the Titans could go to the playoffs, the Titans go 12 and 7,
I see 10 and 7, I see 12 wins.
I told you guys as respectfully as I could.
You're out of your freaking mind.
you're in my comment section saying 12 wins, 10 wins, and those are the people who are the most angry right now.
And it's like, well, your expectations were stupid anyway.
Why would you ever think that this team was going to win 12 or 10 games?
Like, I'm sorry, you need to consider a doctor at that point if you really thought that that was going to happen.
So I'm not sitting here saying that the Titans should have won a bunch of games, but improvement.
Improvement is what you wanted to see.
and, you know, as we know,
we have not seen a lot of improvement.
I did think that this was an interesting piece of information as well
from Dan Graziano.
He said,
if the Titans can win a couple games,
I'm sure that will buy him time.
But that's a big if right now
when Callahan hasn't helped himself
with some of his gaps like the time management
and the end game decision making and all that.
And he goes on to say,
I will say,
from talking to people who follow these situations in the league
that there's belief that this will be a desirable job
if and when it comes open.
You have a young promising QV
a new stadium on the horizon
and he asked Jeremy Fowler,
Jeremy Fowler agreed with that
and Jeremy Fowler said I do agree
this can be a good job.
You have Cam Ward some serious potential
needs an infusion of past catching talent around him
a few drafts can fix that
the offensive line hasn't come together
despite significant investments,
but offensive tackle J.C. Latham and Guard Peter Skoronsky
are players that you can build on.
So, I agree with that totally as well.
The Titans job is a good job.
Now, I know there's a lot of you doomers out there.
The Titans are 0 and 4, so everything sucks.
Nobody wants to come here.
There's only 32 jobs in the NFL.
There will always be demand,
and NFL candidates usually aren't in a position
where they could say, oh, I'm just going to pass on this job
because I don't think it's a great job.
Like, that's not how this works.
There's only 32 in the world, okay?
And it doesn't look like there's going to be a ton of openings this year anyway.
So, with Amy Adams-Trump, with the cap space,
with the draft capital,
with some of the young pieces, with Cam Ward in place,
this absolutely will be a desirable location for potential head coaches.
So the final thing that Graziano had to say here was,
here's another thing to watch,
because Borgonzi and Brinker weren't really in their current roles
when the organization hired Callahan, maybe Brinker was,
but he didn't have as much say and delineated power at the time.
It's never comfortable working for people who didn't hire you.
And your point about the offensive line is a critical one
because offensive line coach is Callahan's father, Bill Callahan,
who's considered one of the best to ever do that job.
I believe Bill wouldn't stick around if Brian got fired,
so you're talking about major changes in critical areas.
I might look foolish in a couple of weeks
or days, who knows, but if I'm making
a prediction, I lean toward
the Titans giving Callahan the rest
of the year before making a decision
and again, I think that would be a
critical mistake for the Titans.
If you want to see some improvement
and some of you guys say
well, we want the number one draft pick
we want a high draft pick, let
Callahan tank them to a draft pick.
I don't think the team is good enough
to ruin their chance
at a good draft pick.
It's not like if you make bones fossil, the interim head coach,
and you let Mike McCoy and Bo Hardigree run the offense,
and you let Scott Fuchs take over the offensive line.
It's not like the Titans are all of a sudden going to take themselves out of a top five pick.
That's not happening, but you might see some tangible improvement.
And I go back to two episodes ago where I talked about the data that shows
if you fire your head coach before week eight
and you're terrible, your team is going to get back.
better. So if the whole goal of this season was to see the Titans improve and you want to be
attractive to future candidates, then let's see some of that improvement. So I think
giving Callahan the entire season, if they go 0 and 9 or 1 and 8 into the buy, would be an
absolute mistake. But if they can get a win, they might start with Arizona and here's how
they're going to do it. Do want to let you guys know that today's episode is brought to you
by square. All right. Square is someone that the neighborhood relies on.
Okay? Your favorite neighborhood spots run on square. There are certain businesses that make the neighborhood, the neighborhood.
There are places that become an extension of home, whether it's a sports bar dedicated to your team's fan base,
the spot with the best wings in town for game day, or the beloved local chain that's been rooted in your community for years.
These businesses are what bring people together.
When neighborhood businesses thrive, the whole neighborhood thrives.
Think about the neighborhood in Nashville that desperately, desperately needs a little bit of excitement right now for the Tennessee Titans.
I mean, Little Hats, Italian market in Germantown, the Shake Shack, Biscuit Love, Monel's Germantown,
so many different places that could use a Tennessee Titans win, no doubt about it.
Square is a proud partner of more than 4 million neighborhood businesses around the world.
You can go to square.com slash go slash locked on NFL to learn more.
But before you do, make sure that you go support your favorite neighborhood spot.
You'll be happy that you did.
Square.
See you in the neighborhood.
Today's episode is also brought to you by Mazda.
It's time for Mazda's moving the game forward.
For those who believe it's not just about playing the game,
it's about redefining it.
There are moments that do more than put points on the board.
They move crowds, move culture,
and keep the game moving forward
and look, there aren't a lot of great moments
for the Titans in this season.
But this week's moment that moved the game forward
was the performance of Cedric Gray,
the Titan's second-year linebacker,
had 17 total tackles on the day,
11 tackles.
I just did a film breakdown
on the Tick-Tac Titans YouTube channel
going over Cedric Gray's performance.
He moved his game forward at minimum.
And when you follow what moves you,
the unexpected is only the beginning.
And just like there's more to every highlight,
there's more to a much,
Mazda vehicle. It's Mazda. Move and be moved.
Titans fans. Let's continue today's edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. We talked about the Brian Callahan report coming out of ESPN. I don't think that I agree if the Titans truly doing 10 to
give him the entire season. I think we've seen enough at this point.
If they want to wait a little longer to see how the changes are working out, then sure.
But if this team's 1 and 8, 0 and 9 going into the vibe,
Callahan needs to be fired.
Like, that's just unacceptable.
And what I want to talk about now is my keys to victory.
And I'm going to go over like my three game keys.
But one of the things that I do want to talk about is the Titans organization as a whole.
and I'm just so incredibly disappointed with what they did to Cam Ward this week
and how his coach and his teammates didn't back him up
and I think it's a huge problem.
Now, we're going to talk about that
when we get to the players to watch
because I'm going to talk about Cam Ward.
But again, my keys to victory.
Number one for the Tennessee Titans,
they have to contain Kyler Murray.
We know that the Tennessee Titans have struggled mightily
against mobile quarterbacks.
They have destroyed them.
And it's one thing
when the Titans pass rush isn't very good.
All right, it's going to be hard to get to those quarterbacks.
But to me,
that makes it easier on the Titans to contain Kyler Murray.
You know,
you know,
you're not going to be able to get to Kyler Murray.
Just not going to happen.
Your edge rushers are terrible.
Outside of Jeffrey Simmons,
no one can get pressure from the interior.
The Titans refuse to do more twists and stunts.
I don't know why, but they refuse.
They just let their bad pass rushers rush one-on-one over and over and over again.
Don't understand that.
But, like I'm saying, with a bad pass rush,
that gives the Titans the opportunity to actually focus on containing Kyler Murray.
They have to be disciplined in their pass rush.
They have to not get too far up the field
and let Kyler Murray have lanes to run through in the middle.
middle. They have to make sure that their edge rushers don't commit too far inside and
allow Kyler Murray to break contain. This actually works out fine for the Titans
Pass rush. You're not going to get there. So don't be over aggressive. Don't give
Kyler Murray easy lanes to run through. Just be disciplined in your rush. Keep him in
the pocket. Keep him contained. Kyler Murray has great athleticism, great mobility.
So don't let him use that. Make him stay in the pocket. Make him cut up the
defense. Make him short pass, short pass, hole in the defense, precision, accuracy. I talked
about this with the Colts. There's no reason to let a quarterback with good mobility beat you
when you're a Titans team with a bad pass rush. There's just no reason, no excuse. You know
you're not going to get to the quarterback, so mush rush. Like the Titans used to do against
Lamar Jackson during the Mike Vrable era. They didn't rush so hard. They just wanted to keep
a contained pocket and keep you in the pocket because when Kyler Murray gets out of the pocket
that's when you really get in trouble. The Arizona Cardinals defense, as my Guy
Alex Clancy on the crossover show said yesterday, the Arizona Cardinals offense I mean
has not been good this year. All right? It has not been a high scoring, high
powered offense. It simply hasn't been. Okay? So why would you allow
Kyler Murray to do what he does best, use his mobility,
Play make outside of the pocket.
Get their offense going with some sandlot stuff
where they can break free of the defense.
Why would you let him do that?
Make Kyler Murray beat you like Tom Brady.
Make Kyler Murray beat you like Peyton Manning.
Make Kyler Murray beat you like Matt Stafford.
This should not be a blitz heavy week.
This should not be an aggressive pass rush week.
They need to just hem Kyler Murray in the pocket.
And what's going to happen is if they do that,
if they do that,
Kyler Murray is going to get antsy.
his natural inclination is to move around.
He's going to start moving them feet like Mighty Mouse.
All right?
And then he's going to have nowhere to go.
He's going to run into people.
He's going to drop his eyes.
And then the defense can take advantage.
So the number one thing that will kill the Titans in this game
is if they let another mobile quarterback beat them.
You have to, you have to, you have to be disciplined in your rush path.
Like, there's no excuses this week.
Now, the second thing is time of possession.
That's my second key to victory for the Titans.
Time of possession.
And that's two different things.
One, that's sustaining drives.
But really what it all comes down to is running the football.
Again, the Arizona Cardinals gave up 155 rushing yards to the Seattle Seahawks last one.
They haven't been a terrible run defense.
under 100 yards in a couple of games
but they haven't been a great run defense either
they're middle of the pack in the NFL
so I think that the Tennessee Titans
will be able to run the football
against the Arizona Cardinals
and that is going to help them
have shorter third downs
that's going to help them have longer drives
and more importantly
that's going to help the defense stay fresh
because the biggest problem with the
Titans defense is they can't get off the field. They're always on the field because the
offense has the most three and outs of any team in the NFL or actually the Titans are
31st in three and outs in the NFL. I do believe it's 31st or 32nd, but 31st.
Time of possession, the Titans are 27th in the NFL which is actually better than I
thought it would be. They were 28 to 31 week 1, 29 to 30 week 2, 28 to 31 week 3rd
and then 21 to 38 last week.
That's terrible.
If the Titans' offense can't run the football
and hold the football
and help the time of possession battle,
then the defense is going to be out there too long
and an Arizona Cardinals offense that has started slow,
they ramp it up towards the end of the game
and they're going to get a turbo boost
if the Titans defense is also exhausted,
which is what happens.
And it's been happening for years and years and years.
folks. The Titans' offense is terrible. The defense plays well early. The defense is on the field
too much. The defense gets tired and then the defense breaks down in the end of the game.
It's been the same thing for four seasons now. So if the Titans don't find a way to win the
time of possession battle against a team that's better than them and at home, they're
cooked. Because the defense is not going to be able to play to the level that they need
play for an entire game.
If they're out on the field for the entire game,
it's that simple.
Run the football, control the ball.
Has to be done.
And then my final key to victory here
is start fast.
This is more of a,
rather than an on-the-field key to victory,
this is a mental key to victory,
in my opinion.
So, Arizona,
again, is not a team that starts fast.
Arizona has been better late in their recent games.
They haven't been able to get off the fast starts.
Kyler Murray just said in their first game of the year,
they played terrible teams and got off and did okay.
But last week, Kyler Murray even said,
felt like our offense was loading for three quarters.
I don't think that the Cardinals have a very good offensive coordinator
and Drew Petzing, who will have a great plan against the Titans
and be able to take advantage.
So, if the Cardinals do get off to a fast start,
all of those bad feelings for the Titans
of where they're at in the season and losing and all of that,
it's all going to come crashing down.
And like I said with Alex yesterday,
it's not just you're down 10 to nothing in this game.
it's going to feel like they're down a million to nothing
because they've lost every game so far.
But, on the other hand,
if you can get off to a fast start
and you can get some confidence
and you can let the team feel some success
and some positivity,
I think the Titans have enough to carry this home.
So, they're going to have to start fast,
they're going to have to contain Kyler Murray,
and if they don't do it,
they're going to be in trouble.
But now it's time for my players to watch.
And again, I thought the Titans sold out Cam Ward this week
and they need more people like Cam Ward
and less people like Brian Callahan.
So I'll tell you exactly what's going on there
as Cam Ward is one of my players to watch in this game.
I'm Cody Roark from Lockdown Brockwoods.

All right, Titans fans, let's cap off today's edition of Locked on Titans,
getting you ready for the Tennessee Titans matchup in week five
against the Arizona Cardinals.
I went over my keys to victory.
Now I want to get into my players to watch.
And my number one player to watch this week is Cam Ward.
I haven't had Cam Ward as a player to watch the last couple of weeks
because quite frankly, I'm concerned about other things on this football team,
not Cam Ward.
But this week, they need Cam Ward to get back on track.
They need Cam Ward to have a good game.
They need Cam Ward to not be so angry.
with the team, but I want to say this.
I am angry with the rest of the team.
So, as you have probably seen,
Cam Ward went out in the press conference last Sunday
after the game and said,
this team is but, is what I'll say.
I'm not saying those kind of words on the show.
He said, we're but, okay?
And Brian Callahan comes out and says,
oh, well, he's learning about, you know,
he needs to grow up in the weight of his words,
but basically scolding him for it.
Jeffrey Simmons is in the locker room saying,
yeah, I had a private talk with Cam off the record about that
and, you know, what he's saying
and what it means to the people in the locker room.
How about this, Brian Callahan and Jeffrey Simmons?
I like that Cam Ward called everybody out.
And you guys sound like losers.
All right?
Brian Callahan is a loser.
Jeffrey Simmons has been a part of a lot of losing as well.
And let's just be honest.
if you follow Jeffrey Simmons career
he hasn't always really been a leader type guy
and there are a lot of people
who are in the building often
who say that Jeffrey Simmons is not a very good leader
he's not someone who takes criticism very well
blah blah this and that
well whether that's true or whether that's not
I hate it hearing Brian Callahan basically condemn
Cam Ward and Jeffrey Simmons say
oh I had to talk to him off the record
Cam is right. Someone should be angry.
Someone should say, we suck right now.
I hope people are pissed off.
I hope people in the locker room are mad.
I hope Cam made some people frustrated.
It's about time somebody did it.
For far too long, losing has been accepted.
For far too long, it's been, oh, there's a lot of good.
I'm tired of hearing Brian Callahan say, well, there's a lot of good on the tape.
no there is not
no there is not
Cam Ward called you all a bunch of losers
and I'm glad that he did it
and they need more people like Cam Ward
who are angry at losing
I think that a lot of veterans in this locker room
have been losing for so long
that they're numb to it they're used to it
they can go out there say oh we just gotta play better
we just got to play no Cam Ward is not used to losing
and he's like we suck man this is not
good enough. That's what the
Titans need. Someone to shape them
out of their malaise.
So
whether it's right or wrong
there's going to be a target on Cam Ward's back
this week. And I want to see Cam Ward
go out there and say, if you bums don't get it
I'll show you. I will
show you. And with that
my other players to watch are also
on offense. Tage Spears.
Spears will be back for
this game. He's practicing.
He's ready to go. And they need
his dynamicism very much. He is a dynamic weapon. He is a threat to catch the ball and make
somebody miss and get upfield. In the run game he has more juice and more pop than Tony Pollard
and God Tony Pollard needs him. And if the Titans are going to run the football and win the
time of possession battle like I talked about my keys to victory, they're going to need more
than Tony Pollard. Okay? So it's time for Tajay Spears to show up and show out and we
week 5. It is time. And then finally, Dan Moore.
Josh Sweat, who the Titans could have signed in free agency, by the way.
Josh Sweat is by far clearing away, no doubt, no question, the best pass rusher on the Arizona Cardinals.
Kaleas Campbell is good on the interior, but Josh Wet, by far the most productive pass rusher that they have coming from Philadelphia.
I love the celebration of the sweat thing when he gets
sacks. It's nasty, okay, to use your name and do that. Got to give credit where it's due.
That's a sick celebration. But I don't want to see that celebration on Sunday.
And I'll tell you this. Josh Sweat has moved around the formation quite a bit.
It's not like he just rushes against Dan Moore. But quite frankly right now,
J.C. Latham's status is still up in the air.
I mean, we saw reports that he's getting close, but I don't know if I believe that PR
nonsense quite honestly. So we'll see maybe by the time you're listening to
this. J.C. Latham practiced on Thursday and maybe he's set to go, but I'm still skeptical.
I hope so. But either way, if they have Oli Udo, they're probably going to put Josh
sweat over on Oli Udo. Well, help him with a running back in a tight end, but again, they
can't do what they've been doing, which is leaving seven players in to help both offensive
tackles. Dan Moore's getting paid $20 plus million a season.
He cannot be somebody who you have to help every third down.
It's not going to work.
He was signed not to be that guy.
So keep helping to help Ali Udo with Josh Sweat.
And then Dan Moore has to dominate his matchup, the lesser matchup.
And if Josh Sweat is on Dan Moore, then Dan Moore needs to win.
Josh Sweat is a good player.
Josh Sweat isn't Will Anderson or Daniel Hunter
or Josh Heinz Allen or Miles Garrett or T.
T.J. Watt or like, the whole scouting report on Dan Moore
is he's terrible against elite rushers,
but he's good against okay rushers.
Well, Josh Sweat is an okay rush.
He's not elite.
So whether it's Josh Sweat on Dan Moore
and then Ali Udo and Help on the other side
or whether it's Oli Udo and Help against Josh Sweat
and Dan Moore one-on-one against one of their lesser pass rushers,
Dan Moore has to have a great question.
game. He honestly played okay against the Texans. He played good against the Colts. So this is
one of these matchups where based on what everybody says about Dan Moore, he should play
good. So Cam Ward, Taj Spears, Dan Moore, do your job, make an impact. And I think the
Titans give themselves a good chance to win. But here's the reality. I don't think the Titans
win. I don't trust the defense to contain Kyler Murray. I think that Brian Callahan's a dead man
walking and the worst coach that I've ever seen.
I don't think the Titans have any chance to win this week.
I don't think that they're even going to come close.
And it's a sad reality,
but that's the lack of confidence that I have in this coaching staff right now.
I think the Titans with better coaching could beat the Cardinals.
I think the Titans with better coaching could absolutely cover in this game.
But Brian Callahan is like 2 and 18 against the spread.
in his career. Disasterous.
Okay? Disasterous.
Or it has to be better than that. It's 3 and 17, the three games they won.
So, they're a bad roster, not as bad as they look, in my opinion,
but a bad roster with the worst coaches in the NFL.
They're going to make Drew Petzing look like a genius, all right?
But I have the Titans losing 23 to 9 to the Cardinals.
Going with keeping it plus 100, the Titans are 8.5.
underdogs. Again, I can't take that spread.
Eight and a half is a very playable number.
The Titans were eight and a half against the Broncos
and they covered by a half a point.
So maybe the Titans find a way to keep this close,
but right now the Titans are getting worse.
I can't have them covering right now.
Graphics wrong, says Texans, means Cardinals.
You guys know. It's the same thing. Either way.
41.5 is the over-under.
I can't take the over in any game that the Titans are involved in.
I just can't trust their offense to do anything.
And then finally, my beautiful dark twisted fantasy player of the week is Tajay Spears.
I think if you're looking to get a value in daily fantasy,
if you're dealing with buys and injuries like I am and your season long leagues,
I think throwing Tajay Spears in there is going to be a good move
because the Titans are clearly going to try to get him involved.
But with that being said, that is going to do it for today's edition of Locked on Titans.
