More Money Podcast - My Top F.I.R.E. Book Picks You Need to Read - Money Minute with Jessica Moorhouse

Episode Date: March 27, 2020

Since this week’s episode featured another guest who was able to achieve F.I.R.E. in his 30s, I thought it would be a great topic for this week’s Money Minute! Since we are currently in a bear mar...ket, similar to the one that happened from 2007-2009, this is actually the best time to build wealth. From all the guests I’ve had on my show, that’s how they were able to achieve financial independence and retire early…they invested during the last recession and reaped the rewards. If you have dreams of reaching financial independence, a great first step is to pick up one of these great books: Financial Freedom by Grant Sabatier Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin Quit Like a Millionaire by Kristy Shen and Bryce Leung Work Optional by Tanja Hester The Simple Path to Wealth by J.L. Collins How to Retire Early by Robert and Robin Charlton Millionaire Teacher by Andrew Hallam Since we’re all being told to practice social distancing, that doesn’t mean you have to stop talking to people! Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, hello, hello, and welcome back to another Money Minute episode with yours truly, Jessica Morehouse. For this episode, we'll also kind of piggybacking on last week's Money Minute episode where I say, hey, spend this time doing something productive and also that will calm you, make you feel better, like educating yourself, reading books. So for this Money Minute episode, since I just had Cornell on the show, who achieved FIRE at a very young age, I thought I would share some books that you may want to check out that are also about FIRE. Financial Independence, Retire Early, because guess what? Almost all of the people, especially the people that have come out with books
Starting point is 00:00:42 recently in the past couple of years, they're kind of magic sauce, so to speak, of how did they retire so early? They dumped a ton of money in investments during the last bear market. So it's not like they're geniuses, no offense. I'm not offending anybody. I hope I don't offend anybody. But it's like, that's what they did. They dumped a ton of money in investments during the last bear market, during the last recession, when everyone was panicking, they were investing. So hopefully reading some of their stories and their advice and their books will kind of motivate you and maybe think about what's going on right now in a different light and also will calm you down. So let me, and also lots of these people have been to my podcast, so that's always very
Starting point is 00:01:24 exciting. So make sure to check out those episodes. I'm sure you can do a search on my website or on iTunes or however you're looking to find these people, but let me give you some options for some books about financial independence. So there is a book called Financial Freedom by Grant Sabatier. He was on the podcast. There's a classic book that I think everyone in the world has read called Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin. Make sure to check that one out. That is like literally a classic. There's a book called Quit Like a Millionaire by Christy Shen and Bryce Leung.
Starting point is 00:01:55 They are actually Canadian. So that's kind of a fun little fact for you. There's, of course, Work Optional by Tanya Hester, a friend of mine, and she was on the show twice. So make sure to check out those episodes. There's The Simple Path to Wealth by J.L. Collins. Also another classic book that I know so many people have read. So another classic you need to pick up. There's a book that I'm actually currently reading right now because it's been on my shelf for a few years. I bought it. I was going to read it. Never did because life. And here I am now reading it called How to Retire
Starting point is 00:02:25 Early by Robert and Robin Charlton. And I will end off with one of my all-time favorite fire and investing books, Millionaire Teacher by Andrew Hellam. He is just the best. He's just the best. He has a lot of great other books and he's a great writer as well. His blog post, he's also in my Facebook group. So get into my Facebook group, jessimorehouse.com slash Facebook group, or just go to facebook.com slash groups slash money at life balance. Get in there. So a lot of great conversations, including conversations about fire. So hopefully you'll pick up one of these books or all of these books in this, start reading and start getting excited. So that is your money minute for the week. I hope you enjoyed it. And I hope you're doing okay this week. And I hope you have a really awesome, relaxing weekend full of reading and tea
Starting point is 00:03:19 and cookies and naps and all those nice things. Okay, I'm getting sappy. Anyways, thanks for listening. I'll be back next Wednesday with another episode. Thanks so much for supporting the Momente podcast. I really appreciate it. Catch you next week. This podcast is distributed by the Women in Media Podcast Network.
