00:01 Hello and welcome to Talkin Baseball. Game one of the NLCS, the Brew Crew. Take the first game after getting swept last year. We got to talk ball. Aaron Ashby. I mean, I was doing a brewer. Corey Hart. Fow ball.
00:27 Andy Ashby. Hello and welcome to talking baseball, presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino. If you're locking in your baseball bets, Fanatic Sports and Casino is a place to do it. Winning hits different here. I'm Jake Storreilly. That is Trevor Plouf. Rob Chiracco producing, Dalton Feeley, getting all the stats and info together for us.
00:47 As the Milwaukee Brewers take game one of this NLCS that, I don't know, Trevor. I think if we had to place our bets before the season, sure, there's the Mighty Phillies, the Braves, Mets mentioned. The thought of these two teams running it back and it ended up tonight, October 11th, some people are saying. And we had some exactly what you'd expect. High level pitching. Even the big dog struggled a little bit,
01:16 some high level hitting. And the Brewers take game one. Coach, how you doing? You mentioned the Mets. I don't like to call Jolly a dummy, because I actually think he's a smart guy, but he did convince me that the Mets were going to be good this year. So dummy fits in this instance.
01:31 As far as this game goes, I mean, look, we talked about it. The Brewers needed this one with Mizz on the mound, even though he didn't really have. his stuff tonight. They figure it out. I think it sets them up very, very well because I think a lot of people,
01:43 us included, were like, if they don't get this and Yamamoto's tomorrow? Like, what are we looking at? What kind of series? But they get the job done. Can't wait, coach.
01:54 Here are some of these devil entendras, these little jokes you got in your burn. Oh. Yeah, let's get into it. There's one game to talk about. So let's note I got excited about, Trev. I'll give you some loser stuff. Did you have a friend that was on SNL?
02:09 Yeah. Shout out Michael Longfellow, Diamondbacks fan. No, I would say that we can kind of, we can dive into this one. Like, we've had four games to cover. 45 minutes in, we're like, well, Pedy Halpin really grinded. This game, there was a lot of little stuff. Let's, uh, and usually, you know, I'll say one line that you look at me and you're like, wait, that little fucker does no ball a little bit.
02:35 Let's... Let's burn it. The two best records in baseball, a rematch of last year's NLCS, the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers would go scubal diving for their third behind Terek. While it'll be beers for the rest of the world as the Brewers and Jacob Mizorowski tried to leave Milwaukee to their first ever world series title. Top two, Andy Paez. Turns the page RBI single.
03:13 It's 1-0-0 Dodgers. Bottom 4, but Bryce to rank the bell. Game-tying solo homer. It's 1-1 into the 5th. Luis Lara Croft is a game gamer. RBI single to take the 2-1 lead into the 6th, into the 7th, the 8th, final. 4.2 scoreless from the Brew Group bullpen
03:38 and something that didn't happen last year. Milwaukee wins a game in the NLCS 2-1 final. Laura Croft is a gamer. I knew Luis Lara Croft was going to hit a chord for you. I couldn't fully bring it together. Because like Tomb Raider and baseball, that doesn't, not a super correlation there, but. You know what?
04:05 I'm not even, how do I even know Tomb Raider? I must have seen the movie. The movie was big. Angelina Jolie is Laura Croft, right? The movie was big. I think Rob just had a big headnot, too. I think for our generation, I think that was one of the first, like, oh. Yeah, it was on TNT like every other week.
04:24 Oh, and what regard? Like, Angelina Jolene's a banger? I wouldn't have used that word. Yeah, no, I would. Rob will. Yeah, I mean, that means she's like, was a very good-looking woman. Okay. And that was brought to you by.
04:40 What do we got, Bob? because I know we got a couple. Fox 1. If you're going to watch the games, people, Fox 1, MLB on Fox is streaming. This is the time of year talking baseball was made for. Postseason's here. Fox 1 has your front row seat.
04:54 Every walkoff matters. Every bullpen decision gets dissected. Every series is a test on whether team is built for the World Series. Fox 1 is where MLB on Fox streams from marquey matchups to lights out performance. It's your home for MLB on Fox. Live as it happens and on demand. And they're streaming the World Series, people. right. Fox 1, not a highlight package, not a recap. The actual games live as they unfold,
05:17 at home or on the go, live or on demand, whatever works. The race to the world series is on, never miss a moment by watching MLB Live on Fox 1 stream now. Coach, it's normally where do we start? And I usually try to bring us back to the starting pitchers, but where do you start? Yeah, man, that was the storyline coming in. We got Terrick Scoobel, trade deadline guy. I mean, one of the bigger names moved to the deadline in quite some time. He comes over. He's starting in these game ones ahead of Yamamoto, and you know what he means to.
05:49 Yamamoto means to the Dodgers franchise. You got him going. You got the clear-cut NL-Sai Young Award winner who leads the world in every pitching statistic there is going with Mizorowski. And you'd expect this one to be a low-scoring game, and it was, but, you know, I think there was a lot more traffic. than people anticipated, especially for Ms. early on. You know, kind of the Dodgers were having really good at bats against him,
06:14 driving up his pitch count. A lot of traffic. I thought you were going to mention L.A. and traffic, like living up to the stereotype. I thought you were going to do that. You didn't. Take the five to the four of five. Yeah, a lot of traffic, but nothing doing.
06:32 Because the Cooper Pratt and Bryce Tringer, I mean, maybe they're jumping up the ranks as like funnest infield duo we got in the game. You know I love middle infielder's. I know you do. And I also, I forgot to mention this. I forget if it was last series, but there was a Cooper Pratt interview.
06:50 And just kind of funny, I picture, you know, Milwaukee and, you know, the young guy on the team. Cooper Pratt was like such a bro. And he's like, yeah, bro. Like this playoff games. It was crazy out there. And it's like, oh, you're a 21-year-old.
07:03 That checks out. And yeah, I mean, again, we try not to get too lost in this, but I kind of forgot about the traffic because late, not as much traffic. But early on, you're right. And Mizorowski, he came out clean in the first. I did think my guy Smolts today was sharp. Love, love it. I've got a very love-hate relationship with him sometimes.
07:24 That Mizorowski, like, it was so funny the, when we got introduced to him, and he was this, like, crazy Pokemon dude, and he's yelling off the field, and he kind of looks like a little leaguer, and you're like, what the hell is this? He came into tonight's start, and he was composed, and he was an ace, and he's, you know, I'm not going to throw 105. And that was good in the first inning, but in the second inning, the mighty Dodgers who were like,
07:48 hey, dude, if you're just going to throw your heater, guess what? That's, we're good on that. We can handle that, and they did. Even in the first inning, Freeman gets a single, Will Smith ends up grounding two dull play. I wanted to say Terang and Cooper Pratt, like two Khali'll agree. greens up the middle. Oh, that's for you.
08:06 That's for me. That's for you. I had to let that one go. But you're right. Otani four pitch walk, Teosker single, and then Andy Paez, who, you know,
08:14 look, I think we have in our mind now, Andy Paix has, like, great center feeler for the Dodgers, but, like, struggled at the end of the year, did not hit in the postseason last year,
08:23 and now we're seeing him get some timely hits for the Dodgers. That bottom of the lineup has been really good for the Dodgers, as far as driving in runs, and maybe creating some traffic down there. He gets the scoring started. Tucker, uh, Tucker, uh, 10 pitch walk, loads the bases. Uh, we got one out and Kee Kee K up. Like this is a chance now.
08:43 You're already up one nothing. It's the top of the second and you're like, is Ms. going to lay a fastball in here? And is Kiki going to be October Kiki? And we're going to be like 5.0 quickly and holy shit, here are the Dodgers. Instead, uh, a great backhanded double play started by Pratt. Uh, but 35 pitches through two innings for Ms. and you're like, okay, what does that mean?
09:04 But, you know, this is kind of not what Ms. usually does, but this is a strength of the brewers. Like, you know, use your defense. There is run prevention here. You can, one, nothing's fine. Those crooked numbers are where it gets you and he's able to escape those in the first couple. Yes, and I think the other thing that goes with that,
09:23 I mean, Mizorowski has most pitches thrown in an inning this year. So you're really on the ropes. And the fact that it ends with a double play, imagine if it's a base hit. The way that this could have gone off the rails is right in that moment. And the other thing that's going on there, and again, we, I feel like we somewhat tiptoe sometimes because a lot of people, not trying to be rude to them, not in a ball-knowing way.
09:47 But there was, the Dodgers, base runners off second base, had a decent view on Mizorowski's grips that when Teosker and Pahez were leading off, they were tipping to the hitter what was coming that you're like, wait, Mizorowski kind of on the ropes where 30 plus pitches in and the hitters know what's coming. Yeah, this could have ended a lot differently. And I think that's probably, if this was talking Dodgers, that would be the moment. Yeah. No, I'm just thinking about the tip, giving the tips.
10:22 Hey, Oscar was doing a paw has, whatever. And it's funny because Muncie came out before this game was talking about how, you know what, Okay. I actually told a listener I wasn't going to talk about myself for a week and he was going to pay me 100 bucks. I already lost the bed. Gone. Gone. Awesome. Awesome. What am I supposed to do? Whatever. Don't need it anyway. Keep going. Tell him your wife's hot. Tell him it's a nice house you got. She's so great. I drink some good wine tonight.
10:53 Nice. Shoot. My AI episode is looking better and better and better because I said two years. ago. I said, look, we're going to get guys, teams putting information video. We have cameras at every angle now putting it into a software program and having that do the work for. I said, that's going to happen. If it hasn't already, I asked around. Some organizations told me no, but they're probably lying because why would they tell me? Right. And Muncie is flat out saying, like, this is what they're doing. I hate it, coach. I absolutely despise it. But this is something that we're going to have to start dealing with at an even more consistent rate.
11:35 Like, pitchers are going to have to figure it out. I don't know what they're going to do. Are they all going to be Ryan Dempster on the mound every single pitch? Maybe, dude, but they're going to have to combat this AI somehow because we're seeing it now more than ever, I think. And maybe we're just noticing it more because they're getting more blatant with the signs. But anyways, they do that. It doesn't matter. They can't.
11:56 They get their run by Paez. and I don't want to spoil the rest of the game. Spoil. But that's the only one they got. Oh. Thank you. And so does someone get $100? No, no, I don't think so.
12:09 We didn't really bet that way. Okay. But if he wants it, I'll send it to him. Interesting. Fucking flush with cash. So I guess as we're doing the early parts of this game, one scuba, I mean, you start, you're looking at the pitch count, and you're looking at, I don't want to say how easy it was.
12:29 but scoble's cruising and he's he's tarrick scoble he's he's the bad man uh one of the bad man in this game that you're like okay there's a couple there's a couple padre swings i remember lara's i think his first at bat he goes down on a high fastball and you're like oh is that that felt like he's feeling the moment a little bit uh for me trev i think one of the pivot points of this game and i don't think it's being hokey is uh because pa is like you said he got the rb i single in the second uh miserowski you're starting to look at the pitch and you're wondering, I mean, dude, I was wondering what conversations are going on in the Brewer's dugout because it didn't seem like he had his A stuff, which again, if you're talking about the weapon he can be in a seven-game set,
13:11 it's like, well, if we're already at 70 pitches, do we even want to send him out there to potentially not be good for another 20 pitches? They end up staying with him, and in the fourth inning, it feels like the same thing's happening. Tay Oscar gets on and then we have the balk, which I'm actually, let's just get your thoughts on the balk. He balked. Yeah. I mean, it was clear. I honestly, yeah, I mean, Teosker's there and takes off early, just goes. Like, we're trying to time a guy up.
13:45 And sometimes this happens where the guy holds longer and you find yourself like antsy to go and you don't really know what to do. So you stop. It's a weird feeling to be kind of out in the open. The guy still hasn't delivered home. But for a pitcher, and I, dude, I deal with this with my youth team. It goes all the way to the big league. So I'm happy, you know, this happened. Maybe I'll show them this video.
14:06 But you have to be calm enough for when someone yells, step off, that you can do it the right way. And he didn't. He moved the left leg. He flinched it. He flinched the back leg, too. I mean, it was just, it is. I don't know what Murph was arguing here. I think you're just arguing to argue, which you're really not supposed to be able to argue a Bach.
14:27 But, yeah, it was a Bach. Yeah, it's tough when you needed like three slow-moes to process it. And yeah, I think if you know baseball, again, I'm not calling out the ball, no. Or is it, if you've watched enough baseball, you're like, okay, yes, I do know what happened. And we could do it for the offseason. It's a weird thing that a ball, the whole concept is supposed to be deceiving the hitter, which in that moment, I don't think anything. Azarowski did was to deceive the hitter, but that's a whole thing for another day.
14:58 And, uh, honestly, David Cohn has some amazing rants, uh, obviously a pitcher against Baltimore, but, uh, it is just a weird thing in our sport. I do think, because Murph's, you know, Murph knows what's going on. Like, I know he plays sometimes the corny guy. I know sometimes he plays the tough guy. It's all calculated. I think he came out. He wanted to change the moment. of that game. That Milwaukee crowd in the third and fourth inning when they were down, won nothing,
15:30 and some tough at bats against Scoobble, and the pitch count was low. The balloon popped. The crowd was low. That I do think, and maybe this is me reaching a little bit, I'll admit that, I think Murph came out and was like, let me get a little spicy, because Mizorowski needs something. The crowd needs something that let's kind of turn this into us versus
15:51 the Dodgers versus the umps for a little bit. but just to try to spark something because the Milwaukee crowd was amazing for about an inning and a half, it was dead. Yeah, I mean, for every single inning, there was somebody on base and even in the top third, Mookie gets a hit,
16:08 and then three straight outs after that. We're still talking about traffic. We're talking about 85 pitches through four for Mizorowski. So, yeah, like he's trying to, I guess. I could see him going out there, just trying to fire the team up just a little bit. Hey, we're all in this together, type situation.
16:25 But yeah, I mean, the crowd is looking at it's 1-0. Again, like I mentioned, and we talked about now, like the Dodgers were on base, a lot this game. I think it was seven hits, six walks, something like that. They weren't able to come through with runners in scoring position, but they were threatening a lot. I think you have Murphy go out there and you get freaking, you know, back on track and Ms. gets out of the inning, gets, you know,
16:47 a really nice slider on Tucker there, three, two pitch under his hands, Strand's tail at second base. Great. Tell him what's coming tail. He can't hit it anyway. Love you, Kyle Tucker. My neighbor, I guess. What the hell? Really? But Bryce Trey.
17:02 With one of the better swings I've seen in the postseason, lefty-left-off scobs, hits one to, like, opposite feel, like left-center? So have you heard this? Have you heard the stat yet? We're giving our guy Jake Mint's credit, Cespitist Family Barber. Oh, no.
17:20 I got Jake? Yeah. You love Jake. I do. It's an F-R-F energy. That's an F-R-F guy. Yeah. That's an F-R-F guy.
17:29 This was the third. So stay with me, because there are some stipulations here. This was the third left-on-left, opposite field homer, on an inner third fastball in the majors this season. This year? This year. In the regular season, too? Yes. Gosh, I'm trying to think if I can, James Wood has to be one of them.
17:54 The other two were by the same guy. No. And he's on the other team. Oh, I thought, oh, it's Shoah. It's Shoah. Okay. So, yes, this was a, it's a unique swing. Again, and the caveat here for people, again,
18:11 sometimes words in a podcast or however you consume, you know, a lot of inside fastball people are turning on if they get there. That's how they get there. to go left on left inside out like that. And again, the pitcher on the mound was Scoobel. The only guy had done it this year is Otani. I think it's just a sneaky feather in the Bryce Terang hat who's someone you've hyped this year as like,
18:34 I don't know, could this, if this guy was allowed to play shortstop on an AL Central team, would he be Bobby Witt? It's not that far off wherever it actually lands. This is PCA before PCA got hot offensively. Like this guy, I mean, he can play middle in field. And I think he does have the offensive ability. Like, it's crazy to say, like, hey, you're going to have a PCA year because we just, I'm baffled at what I saw.
19:02 But no one expected that at a PCA. Nobody coming into this year. I don't care who you were. The same potential is there for Turing. Are Cubs fans even listening to this? Or what are you on the bear season, right? I mean. I'll tell you what, yeah, not today.
19:21 Brewer's fans are listening, and Bryce Trang had it, if you are a war person, he had a 7-3 war this year that... He's a nut job, dude. Sometimes shortstop defense can boost your war a little bit. Go check out some of those ICF seasons that, I don't know, does that turn into an eight and a half if he's playing short? Like, he's a guy in this league. He showed out on Team USA and the WBC,
19:41 and we tried to highlight that. And he's, you know, the Brewer's game of who's the best player. you know, it's probably him versus Churio. He's like, you know, I said Matt Chapman when he had his best offensive season would win an MVP. Well, Aaron Judge is alive. Yeah. And Shohei was alive. Yeah.
20:00 And there were some guys. So Chapman couldn't run the bases the way Terran could run the basis. So Terran has him in that regard as well. I think they both play defense extraordinarily. And then, yeah, I mean, if Terang again, if we see Terang figure something out in his swing and all of a sudden, chase rate cut down. even more and he starts popping some balls into the seats and we're looking at a 35 35 guy.
20:24 What would that number end up being? So love him, great swing by him, ties the game up. I thought that was great. And then interesting to me, and I mentioned this before, we got going here. Brewer's known as one of the more analytically driven organizations. Zach Bunce typically not like super in with guys, especially early on in games,
20:47 but we end up seeing one here. And bottom fifth, I would consider still early in a game, is. But it is, I get the situation. You got fast guys on, dude. You got Garrett Mitchell up, he walks, Cooper Pratt's young guys. So let's, that's bun him. And then you get Luis Lara up there, who probably wasn't really part of the offensive plan in this game.
21:09 More like, hey, go steal some outs in the outfield for us, ends up getting a hit up the middle. and they kind of add on that inning as far as getting more guys on base. But I just thought that was interesting to me. You're giving up outs to try to get a one swing off on Scoobel and ends up working out. Luis Laro is the benefit, the beneficiary of that. Yeah, it's definitely a situation where we get to play the result a little bit. I didn't mind the bunt in live time.
21:39 I mean, again, Cooper Pratt is a young ball player against Tarek Scouble where you haven't had a lot of action. I know the Guardians game last night, game five, the deciding game, like their offense is doing nothing. Kwan shows, but you're just, the energy in that building needed changing and getting a runner in scoring position.
21:57 And I do think, again, we are playing the result a little bit. But Luis Lara, who I mentioned, his first at bat was rough. He goes down on a pitch that, you know, it was kind of a waste pitch by Scoobble. You know, does his mindset get help by seeing a runner on second base and being like, hey, dude, you don't have to hit a triple in the gap.
22:17 Like, let's a little bingo here and we might tie the game. Again, I'm calling myself out on that one, because if this goes wrong, I do think the conversation's different. Well, I think there's a couple reasons why you do it. Like, Gary Mitchell, one of the fastest guys in baseball, and so you have a lefty on the mound. And maybe you don't want to steal with a lefty.
22:37 So you get the second base, and you're saying yourself, like, if you watch school pitch, like, you can steal third off him. You got a right-handed in the box, a guy that, you know, I don't know what the statistics are as far as how much he picks the second base. Typically, starters don't do it a lot. They just don't really care. I don't, again, someone look it up if they want to. But it's easier to steal third base, I believe, was Terrick Scoobel and a right-hander in the box, and it is a steal second against him.
23:01 So you get there, and maybe that's what you want to do. But in the end, I really think, other than that, it's, if we could just get a base knock, he's scoring no matter. or what. So let's give ourselves two chances to do that. And there are times where you play that card and maybe, you know, over a thousand played appearances and then you run these situations over and over in your simulation. We know about simulations. It doesn't play out favorably for you as far as like your run probability. But in this situation, with scoobble there and like this part of the order up, like small ball, let's do it. Well, and I guess, again, maybe we'll have to come up with a manifesto this offseason.
23:48 Something I'm thinking about in live time, double plays, which the Brewers had three of them turn this game, one turn against them. If you do lay down that bunt successfully, now double plays out. Like, even though you have speedy guys, it's just, it's something in your head. It's something the defense is thinking about. And yeah, Luis Lara immediately chimes in. It's a two-to-one brewer's lead coming off of the. of last year where they play the CS, they get, they got, do we have a, they got mopped, right? I mean, that's a four-game sweep.
24:21 They got mopped in kind of the second biggest stage you possibly can that, man, the rest of this game was so much fun. I know there was no offense the rest of the way, but all the power arms coming out of both pens. And I don't know, also, and we'll see what this turns into in the rest of this series, but the Dodgers hitters, like, not phased in the nicest way. Like, they're in this for all seven until that last out of that last game. And I don't know.
24:53 This was, I enjoyed every abat the rest of the way. Well, you know, in the top of the fifth before they got the lead, Ms. ends up coming out, D.L. HAL gets the last two outs. Then they take this lead in the bottom of the fifth. So now you're counting down. Okay, we got 12 outs to get. We know who they want to get to. You got your eBay, you got Ashby, and you got McGill.
25:11 and you're like, okay, are those guys getting 12 outs? Are we going to have to add somebody there? Uribe comes out, he gives up two hits, but ends up King two people, gets a scoreless vibe there. So, okay, Uribe is not going to be the guy that's going to give us two. So Ashby comes in, he goes one, two, three, and then you're like, okay, now what are they going to do? They're going to put Ashby back out there. They end up doing that.
25:36 And like, that was to me, that was when I started to count down. okay, how many outs, who's going to get them, and what are we going to do? Because there's a clear three guys they want to get to in this bullpen at the end of games. And how many outs can each of them get? McGill was warming up maybe to come take over for Ashby in that eighth didn't have to do that. But that was to me when I was like, okay, how is Murph going to handle this? And there was, I mean, there's definitely some other stuff to talk about as far as, you know, what decisions these managers had to make.
26:11 Like Dave Roberts ends up walking the bases loaded to get a right side matchup right there, which I thought was very ballsy, but it ends up, once ends up working out. Yeah, I guess. When was that? What inning was that? Okay, that was bottom of the eighth.
26:27 That was the eighth. Trio leads off with a single. Tanner Scott comes in, Terang Buns. He hit the homer earlier in the game. So you want to be a brewer. Yeah. Yeah. C-Sack Bunce gets Trey over there.
26:40 They intentionally walk Contreras. Bowers K's on like a nasty 3-2 slider. And then, so now it is first and second. Two outs. Andrew Vaughn up against Tanner Scott. And they're like, no, dude. Four. And we're going to get our Garrett Mitchell match up with bases loaded.
26:58 Which to me, I mean, look, dude. How many managers do that? I don't think there's a lot of guys that would do that. Not a lot. And that was a- seen that in a while. It was in, it led to our live stream tonight. It was Norp Cohen and Joe's, which is just three, three middle school boys that are living out different lives. But it led to one of the better baseball combos of, it kind of opened up the how good of a manager
27:26 is Dave Roberts. Because, you know, a couple years ago, it was like, oh, is Dave Roberts the problem with the Dodgers? Now a couple years later, is Dave Roberts brilliant for the Dodgers? The answer usually lies somewhere in the middle, but I'll tell you what, that took some Coyones because Tanner Scott's a pitcher who has a history. Again, this is many years ago where he used to be considered a wild pitcher. But anytime you're at and runners on base in a postseason game,
27:52 especially to get the bases loaded, that's, you know, you're a spiked slider away. Yeah. Yeah, I get, I guess I'm now calling myself out again. Jake, don't be weird about it. But like, we're calling out these managerial decisions by the result, but that's what we got this time of year. And the result was good by Roberts and Scott.
28:17 I still don't really have a clear thought on how I feel about it. I mean, I guess I don't like it only because walk, wild pitch, infield air, anything scores the run. But you're already down a run. So I think there's a little bit less pressure there in that instance. If you're like, if you're up a run, do you do, does he do the same thing? I guess that's my thought is like, what if it's a tie game, do you do that? If you're up a run, do you do that?
28:43 But down a run seems a little less risky to me. I don't know if that makes sense. Hey, I guess I don't, well, William Contreras, as I've said, that you have to consider that he is the guy that walking him. In my head, I was doing the, I don't mind if you, you know, throw a couple, to him and see if he expands, but we've also seen that get people in trouble. When they loaded the bases, I know Andrew Vaughn, he had a really good swing on Scoobble before for that double, but like, that's, you know, intentionally walking Andrew Vaughn to load the bases.
29:17 That's, that has some risk to it. Gary Mitchell's not that bad against lefties either. I mean, it's a 668 OPS. I mean, we're talking 341 OBP. He doesn't slug against them at all, but, like, that's not that bad. Put a decent swing on it. It was right at Mooki. Yeah, first pitch bad.
29:35 He was hunting a heater, got a slider, and then next pitch on it. Hit it hard. Yeah, but you're right. Mookie, he was just in the right spot. Let's do the ninth inning, and we can tee up the next game, and it's all brought to you by Shopify.
29:47 This episode, sponsored by Shopify, our merch store, same people. And it's grown a lot. We have licensed MLB gear for teams across the whole league, new drops, all of it. And where Shopify has become essential is how it connects those products to people. From Google, YouTube,
30:03 TikTok, Instagram, and the shop app. Products show up wherever fans are already shopping. And now, for the first time, you can sell directly inside ChatGPT. Someone can find a product, complete the purchase inside an AI conversation without ever leaving. Whoa. The reach is always expanding.
30:19 The store is built to capture all of it. They've been with us from our first shirt to our last shirt. From our different collections we've done, we launched our Haydays collection for those of you that know you know, but we've upped our apparel a lot. We've got quality people, quality stuff that it's been awesome. And every step of the way has been with Shopify. So if you ever thought about building something of your own,
30:44 you could start your free trial at Shopify.com slash talking. What was that little giggle, Treb? Oh, I don't even know. A lot of stuff going on there. We're going to the ninth now. Let's go to the ninth. They get out of it. Here comes McGill, who by the way,
30:59 little extra snaps for Ashby and your rebank, but Ashby ends up carrying a little bit extra of the load there. And people thought, you know, during our live stream, they were like, oh, they're not going to let him get the last out in that eighth inning
31:14 because he got the lefty. You got Otani and the Oscar, yeah. O'Sker, who showed up in this series like he does seemingly every postseason series. We haven't talked about Otani yet, I think, quickly on him. It looks like he has, he's,
31:29 the weight he's trying to put into that front leg that usually like you know you hit that leg down and things are firing because you're hitting off of that it's not there so he's spinning a little bit on it it's it's um instead of being like stiff on the front leg driving through it like using ground force all that good stuff a lot of sliding action in those hips and it's just he's not able to stay on pitches like we've seen him do it before so I know, I think, what, did he walk and get a base hit in this game? But it still doesn't look powerful at all. Usually you're looking at some of these matchups.
32:10 You're like, dude, I'll take Otani versus Ashby. He's four for six prior to this at bat, like great history against him and just didn't look the same. Yeah, I would tell people he went first to third on a ball. And if you've watched Shohei, like, it's my, I end up laughing. about it because whenever you describe show hand you're like yeah top five pitcher yeah top three hitter yet he might be top three fastest in the game and the fastest thing is like okay that feels like a that doesn't feel right him going first the third was like oh he's 80% max so you because i thought the same thing when i sound like is he going to be like a big turn around third and he's is
32:52 he going to go and it wasn't even a thought process he's he's banged up uh again to what degree Nobody's fully sure, probably him and a couple people in that clubhouse. The ninth inning, your guy McGill comes out. And it is just, we've had a few of these moments this postseason, but he comes out for the ninth, and you're looking at that crowd in Milwaukee, and you're thinking about everything. You're thinking about how they ran this back last year. You're thinking about how it's sneaky a one-run game,
33:22 although Milwaukee's been in control for four innings, and you're like, well, okay, one swing could tie it, And then once guys get on, you start doing the, like, no way, right? Kyle Tucker draws a nice walk, like an in-control walk. Like, not he got thrown balls. Like, he was seeing that slider really well. They send up DePaula for Kike Hernandez, who's a legendary postseason player. So obviously, he controls the at-bat.
33:49 He also walks. So now we've got the tying run and scoring position, the winning run on first in Tommy Edmund, who's a bonus peach for the Dodgers, reminder. A young Jordan and one of the best utility pieces in the game, enter the chat. And Mooky Betts is up the Inner Circle Hall of Famer, and it goes from, dude, if he bloops one here, it's tied. If he puts one in the gap, I don't know. That, yeah, again, what you're hearing from me and Dodger fans might be mad at me, because part of me is rooting against them. But, like,
34:22 this was some of the highest level baseball we saw this year. And by the way, it ends with a great mooky swing that could have gone a lot of different ways. So I went through it fast. You go through it better than I did. You mentioned Tucker, a couple of nice walks. He's kind of turned to his, I mean, I guess not turned his season around. I don't think that it's there yet. If he continues and the Dodgers continue on and they get to the World Series and whatever,
34:45 I think you really could be forgetting about the kind of subpar season that he had in the regular season and focus on this. So he's continuing that narrative. I think at least the abats look a lot better. And he had that in September, I know, but I'm happy to see that continuing. And then we see DePaula for Kiki. And that was a little head scratcher to me. I get right, right?
35:08 But this is, you have Kiki in the roster for moments like this. Right. When I thought Kiki was coming up, I was like, oh my God, this is, I have, like, this is must watch. This is why he's here. And all of a sudden you see a 21-year-old up. And, man, like, again, that's another Dave Roberts decision. there and I think I'm still questioning it. Obviously, DePaula works the walk and looks really good doing it. I mean, it's a five-pitch walk and McGill was a little, you know,
35:37 errant. It wasn't exactly him pinpointing, but he works a walk. You got to give him credit for that. Like in that situation, two outs, you come up to have to face McGill. It's okay. Like, great at bat there. Yeah, but then Mookie comes up and he puts a good situation. You put some good swing on it, man. And off the bat, I was like, oh my God, did he do it? Because in Milwaukee, man, the ball can get out there. And Mitchell runs it down ball game. I don't think it could have played out any better for the Brewers. They play good defense. They challenged when they had guys on base. They were moving them the best they could. Their bullpen came in. They got it to the guys they wanted. They win against Scoobo. They win a Miz day. Like everything worked out for the
36:22 Brewers. The Dodgers haven't been doing it at all with runners in scoring position. I believe they said after the game, that was two for 22 in the playoffs. Yeah. They're not hitting homers. They're not winning. And they haven't been able to do that. So for the Brewers, I mean, this is best, best case scenario. Those only two Dodger hits with runners in scoring position are from Andy Pahas, who he's coming off having that horrible postseason last year. He now has five hits this postseason. He had four and 55 plate appearances last.
36:52 year. So a good redemption arc for him. Same with Bryce Terang. Bryce Terrang. Bryce Terang's postseason numbers before this or before the Homer were pretty terrible. That, yeah, I mean, there's something a small sample size, but we, again, I do think we need to measure these guys properly in October because the game does change. And if you watch baseball, you clearly see it. Mizorowski has not completed five innings pitch in either postseason.
37:22 start he's had. Again, remember, he ended up in, like, a different role a little bit last year. First game he's ever had two double plays, because, again, he's normally, that's not how he operates. So that's just a reminder how crazy that second inning is and his outing today. We had the Andrew, or not the end, the Jake Bowers pickoff that ends up not mattering as much as before. I guess Trev's zooming out now, what else? as you're reflecting on this game now, what else are you thinking about that we haven't covered? I mean, they proved it to themselves that they could
38:00 do the Dodgers in the playoffs. I mean, I get that you're going in there expecting to win, but also at the same time, you're like, shit, we got swept by these guys. We were a good team last year, and we got swept by them last year. And they're looking at a three-peat. Like, the Dodgers are intimidating, dude.
38:13 They just are. Yes. And they won't say that. The Brewers, but no, we know we're a good team. We won more games than them, all this. They're intimidating when it comes to October, because they've been there and done that. They're the ones that have hoisted the trophy
38:24 The last two years, dude. But now the Brewers, they're in the driver's seat. Another game at home, and then they got to go into L.A., but you're like, okay, we won our MIS start. It's going to be a battle against Yamamoto, no doubt about it. But you won a battle today. Hey, if you're the Brewers, you're like, let's run it back. A little bit.
38:44 Same shit tomorrow. Same. Their pen is looking like, like they're, looking dominant, dude. Like, they're the pen that I think everyone is afraid of now. Like, give them the lead and they ain't giving it up. Yeah, I like what you said there. Same shit tomorrow because it's same shit every day. Like, okay, Yamoto, Snow, Glass Now, Scoobel, all right.
39:07 Let's take a few across and play a good D. Guess what? Two innings are going to be hell. We might get, the side might get struck out. But the Brewer's bullpen, McGill, Yerebe, and Ashby, and D.L. Shout out D.L. Hall, Corvin Burns trade. So far this postseason, 19.20 runs.
39:29 Okay. And, man, yeah, it is right. Like, if the Brewers had lost this game tonight, we would have got the quotes from Murf, and we knew this is going to be a dog fight. Dude, if they lost 2-1, like they did last year in game 1, or if they lost 1-0, it's in the back of everyone's head.
39:50 Of, like, it's not going to happen again, right? And they have the bad man on the mound tomorrow. Like Yamamoto is literally the one-one in baseball you'd pick. Look at what Scoobel and Mizorowski did tonight. Scoobel got five dot and he was out. Mizorowski couldn't get to five. Yamamoto, when he pitches, we almost expect eight. Like the dude is on another level right now that, yes, if they didn't win this game,
40:19 I think this would have been a dark talking baseball for Milwaukee. They didn't win. Sure. The Brewers won. Yeah. Last time the Brewers beat the Dodgers in a playoff game was game six of 2018 NLCS. So a seven-game playoff losing streak is snap. That's a Dalton Sicko one at the buzzer.
40:43 Treve, I think at this point, we could tee up tomorrow a little bit. So we're going to have two games tomorrow. Yamamoto, as we, Logan Henderson saying like, guys, I don't give up three runs, bah. Yamamoto versus Logan Henderson, and it's a 5 p.m. game. So kind of a quick turnaround for A, creatures of habit and be a postseason game. Do you have anything to tee up for this one tomorrow? Well, I mean, Yamamoto is Yamamoto, but Henderson's been great against the Dodgers, too.
41:14 So, like, I really expect another kind of low-scoring affair. You know, both these bullpins, I think these guys, even Ashby, I think, will be available tomorrow. try not to use him, but they have an off day following that. So I'm sure he'll be raising his hand. I'm good, Skip, let's do it. And it's the same recipe. Honestly, for both teams, the Dodgers had a bunch of traffic on. They just need a hit with runners in squirm position, or they need the big homer.
41:38 They didn't get it tonight. But I think they feel comfortable like, hey, we put base runners on, didn't come through today. I think that's kind of how you have to approach it if you're them. Manufacturing runs has been a problem for the Dodgers. But if you continue to put runners on, you feel like the dam will break eventually. So I think, yeah, I'm honestly expecting another kind of pipe game tomorrow where one or two pitches will decide it.
42:04 And I mean, if you're looking at it, I agree with you. Yamamoto is going to go seven, dude. That's just what he does. Can Logan Henderson, can the bullpen match what Yamamoto is going to bring tomorrow? That'll be at five as we were ending our live stream tonight. The boys were like, we want to stream that one too. is to stream the night game as the Guardians and the Rays. Chris Rose's Guardians and Trevor Ploof's Rays teed up.
42:36 And that also tees up our single game parlay for tomorrow presented by Fanatics, Sports and Casino. What me and the great Daltino have teed up for you is Drew Rasmussen, 6 plus K's, because last time I saw him against that Guardians lineup, Stephen Kwan won hit, bong, and then the under, six and a half runs, because look what happened tonight. It's postseason baseball. And we've knocked on some wood and be responsible, but we hit a couple.
43:07 We've hit a couple this postseason. So make every bet count at Fanatic Sports and Casino the only sports book to reward every bet. Must be 21 plus gambling problem. 43:29 Not available in all states, terms apply, see Fanatic Sports Bookout. Trev, anything guards, raise you're looking for in particularly tomorrow. Did you know Raspicin and Stephen Quant's? Steven Quant, friends. Interesting. College teammates. Um, I didn't. I think I both knew in my head, Oregon State.
43:54 And they're both nice guys. They are nice guys. Stephen Kwan, I think Stephen Kwan's sneaky, well-known nice guy. Maybe that's a John Boy Media thing. He shows up at a lot of events. Drew Rasmussen, I forget if it was two All-Star games ago, but just had a nice yuck sesh with him. And also, if you're a real baseball loser,
44:15 kind of a medical marvel, and I question that because they said that on a broadcast. I think he's like two Tommy Johns and another shoulder one. And it's just like, the doctors are looking at him. Like, I don't know how he does it. But when he pitches, he can go, if we get Erasmus and Yamamoto start in a couple weeks, he? Oh. You're looking, that's far away, pop.
44:39 It's far away. That's far away. You asked me about guards, raise. You're already going Dodgers raise? I mean, I've been hot this post season. That's what I had. That's still a lot. Okay.
44:49 Actually, I don't know. From guards raise, what do I expect? I want a junior Camerreiro just absolute bomb. I want to see one of those. That was, you know, we do some homer draft stuff with fanatics and just fun social videos. And I was like, okay, so let me check. Let me think about who I want in a homer draft. Game one in Milwaukee, L.A., Scoobel Mizorowski and the Bullpens.
45:17 Great, gotcha. And then it was like, Guardians raised Drew Rasmussen, who I just saw no hit my Yan. And then Foster the Griffin Foster the people the Griffin. He drew the short straw there that I was like, okay, Camineiro. Because he's a bad man. I got told that I didn't know what the Rays at all today,
45:40 one of our YouTube comments. I'm like, dude, I know the Rays. That you don't know the race. As in depth as a freaking Rays fan is, all the ins and ounce of every freaking move we're going to make off the bench. I thought we crushed the Rays. Victor Mesa
45:54 It's tough to please everybody Chandler Simpson's last couple months Yeah Fortesal battle We were playing ping pong Or Richie Palacios guys Crazy And he is
46:07 Midnight Johnny came up to me Literally at midnight And said, what's up dog? And I was like, hey, I like you And your vibe If I was a 1970s scout I would say You feel Richie Palacios in a game
46:21 You don't pass on a high ass. That's what scouts used to say. Hmm. All right. Think about that. Justin Upton, highest ass I've ever seen in my life. Carlos Gomez, too, yeah. Which one? Or no. Yeah.
46:39 Carlos Gomez. Okay. Yeah. I think that's big in basketball, too. I think for rebounding, if you're a big man. Check it out. Check out your fair baseball player. See what it looks like. Big butts only. Okay.
46:54 Great. Two games tomorrow. I think we covered this fantastically. Let us know. Let us know what you want to hear more or less of. Game two, NLCS tomorrow, game one, ALCS tomorrow. We're live streaming at least the ALCS. Maybe we're doing both.
47:12 I think we're going live after. I think you're doing something cool that we might have a jolly or a Jimmy in, but we got it either way. So Rob's thinking of hitting the music. Yep, there we go. Shout out Rob. Bobby golf. Bobbo.
47:26 Dalton. Oh, and Feeley. It's not your birth anymore. It's over. Chick sucks. Hashtag. It's still your birthday on my time.
47:36 Oh, wow. Nice. I need some try tips today. I did a lot of stuff today. My baseball games got rained out, but it didn't rain here. Really? Best case scenario for me.
47:48 That is best case. Yeah. How'd you find out? Late last night, the text is. Oh. As I was drinking some red. Thank you.
