Hello and welcome to talking baseball. The division series kicked off. The defending champs are back on the field. A ball hit the roof, not in the stadium you thought. Let's talk ball. Oh, good Yankees Day. Good Yankees Day. Drew Rasmussen. Austin Wells. Hit double. Double.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino. If you're logging in your baseball bets, Fanatic Sports and Casino is the place to do.
it. Winning hits different here. I'm Jake Storelli. That is Trevor Ploof.
Late on now Sunday, October 4th on the East Coast, which means it's my mother's birthday.
So happy birthday. Linda, she became a Trevor fan this year at the All-Star game. A little too much.
Curious hands in Philadelphia. Trev, how are you? That is not. That's crazy right there.
You were like a belated Mother's Day or Mother's, uh,
birthday present because you're birthday soon.
One week.
The 11th?
Yeah, seven days apart from my mom.
That's just gorgeous.
Our second number is always the same number as we age.
You know what I'm saying?
The second integer.
Okay.
So when I turn 21, she turns something one.
41?
Yeah.
Something like that.
Okay.
Yeah, anyway.
I had a great day today just to let everybody know.
Really?
I was locked in on the ball.
But I told my wife Olivia, I said, listen, we can go do some fun things.
I got to be locked in on the ball.
So I got my headphones in.
I'll be as present as possible, but I got to lock in, which I did.
But I also started my day off the only way that you know I like to start my day off.
So that was nice.
Went and watched my kids and Olivia at the tennis club.
Just sat there and watched ball.
Took them fishing on the beach.
Teddy caught a fish.
I was there watching ball.
still helping him.
And then I got to come back home.
We made dinner.
What a day I had.
They're amazing.
Can't we to talk all about all of this?
Meanwhile,
we were just at the sad JM headquarters today.
Yankees get slaughtered.
Ryan Cohen's Padres has a little nightcapped,
the happiest guy in the world,
unless his Padres lose,
then he's like a miserable old man.
I wasn't going to bring any of that up
because I knew you were just inside all day long.
I just wasn't.
But I do want everyone to know.
I was absolutely locked in.
I did miss a damn page.
We keep the office freezing, and it actually plays.
I don't know.
I think it keeps us from being sleepy a little bit.
Although at the end of the day,
and then I just threw on this hoodie,
and I kind of look like a Belichick grandson or something.
It's not, but if the AC turns off,
I'll get really hot and I'll start stripping.
So if that's not a reason to tune in live on this Sunday morning,
Trev, we got ball to chew through.
And a couple of them can be quick because a couple offenses didn't show up today.
We talk about that.
But because it's Sunday, let's start in the National League and pay some respects to the defending champs who took the field today.
It's time for the Dodgers to go scuba diving for their third straight world series.
And it might be a bit of a Dodd pitching day for Atlanta as they try to bullpen game one.
Bottom four, Teosker gets grouchy.
Sounds like October, two-run, home run.
But in the six, Sean of the Dead,
Murphy's solo homer cuts the lead in half.
It's a two-one game in the six, but then King Tuck.
Kyle, he can exhale.
It's a two-run blast.
There's Max Funky Muncie.
Yeah, it's October in L.A.
Ozzie gets fishy late, but it's not enough.
Dodgers, they take it.
Game 1, 5-3 final.
This one to me was scary for the rest of baseball because it felt so methodical for the Dodgers.
Like we're not even, five days off, you know, whatever we're doing to stay locked in.
And they come and just they answer when they need to answer.
They take an early lead when they need to take the lead.
They run through the bullpen when they need to run to the bullpen.
Oh, a little scare towards the end of the game there, no big deal.
I felt like there were like maybe one or two instances where the Braves were like actually in this game.
And that's again like we talk about the Dodgers getting ready for the postseason.
Everyone's healthy now.
Everyone's healthy.
And they just kind of slept walked into a first victory against the Braves in this DS.
I mean, did you feel differently watching this game?
No.
I mean, I do think with the way that the Braves came into this.
series with Dodd coming in as the opener.
Yeah, I do think, you know, I know we don't love this wild card format, and it might be
the last year with it.
We'll see.
I do think we saw some teams today that felt hampered because they had to play in the
wild card, which is also part of the goal.
And I think the Braves were one of those teams, even though Dodd does his job, but then they
go to Maderos and he gives up the bomb to Tay Oscar.
And it's, in a way, it's like a signature home run, a guy like Tay Oscar who is a
another reminder for the Dodgers and, you know, the debate everyone will have this offseason
about them and whatever. Like, Teosker is, he was one of the first almost bonus pieces for them.
But also, he hit Free Agency and they matched the price. And other teams could have went higher,
done the years. Wasn't it a one year 20? So that initial one, I think it was a one for 22 and a half
or something like that that they overpaid for the one year. And then he was great.
because he's to Oscar Hernandez.
He went back to free agency.
And then, yeah, he did want to stay a Dodger at that point.
But, and yeah, he's one of those you don't know if the postseason's going to pop up
and if it's going to be a one for 18 or if it's going to be like a nine for 15.
And he just kind of balls out.
So that set the tone in L.A.
And literally sets the tone as he stands there at home plate and watches it.
And yeah, I don't think they had an ounce of fear today.
And the other thing we probably have to circle out is the rotation comes out.
And they're going scoble, Snell Yamamoto.
We've talked a little bit about in our group chat about that.
I'm curious if there's anything else out there,
as I didn't see when I was watching these games.
But yeah, we talked about maybe Yamamoto is better on the road than the rest of those guys,
whatever it may be.
It doesn't really matter.
Are they lining up the rotation for the next series?
That was a theory going on.
I didn't like that one because the Braves.
are a pretty good baseball team.
I do think snaps for Dylan Dodd coming out doing it.
He ends at what, three innings pitch, no runs, 4Ks.
But Tayasker gets the job done.
And then Sean Murphy clicks Scoobel, who had retired 15 in a row.
And you're like, okay, fastball up, he gets it.
And then there was another part of that inning where Matt Olson had a chance there.
Because Kim walks, Albi's walks, and you're like, okay, it's getting a little hairy here.
It's Scoobel versus Olson.
There was a couple of these big matchups that maybe,
I mean, that was kind of the Braves chance,
and he ends up getting him there.
And then so you score, cut the lead in half,
and then what does, or what do the Dodgers do?
They answer right away.
Kind of put that momentum to bed.
And I told Rob to get the freaking screenshot up that I sent over,
if he could, of our guy Kyle Tucker.
We have it.
He's hunting.
I put it in the chat for a reason
for this exact moment right here during the show
because listen
if you told a Dodgers fan
that right when they signed Tucker
that hey look at this image
check this out this is after it hits
the home run in the playoffs against the Braves
and like hell yeah bro this is exactly what we thought
it would be like well the road to get here
wasn't great for Kyle Tucker
but who cares
who cares who cares
he gets a little bleeder hit his first abet steals a base and then does this so he's settling in
so like i feel like when teo or kyle tucker does anything uh as far as offensively in this series
which is not even fair to say to these guys it almost feels like a bonus maybe not teo as much
but kyle tucker surely jose de paul is on this team pushing both these guys and what do they
do like no let's keep that guy on the bench we got this here skip and they just come up it's
this is this is why they brought tucker in he can erase an entire year of just like
me baseball with a good postseason and nice strong start for him yeah and he had a very nice
nice september and 889 ops so like he came in feeling good and now this first step is there
um tay oscar his 27 rbis are the most playoff rbi since 2024 so you're right i mean these
these corner outfielders that felt like surplus moves
for the Dodgers outside of probably their pitching staff
are two of the guys contributing the most.
Of course, Max Muncie homers, because, I mean, it's just kind of a way to start off
the postseason.
And then the other one that jumped off the page for me, Scoobble, who, you know,
six innings, two hits, one earned seven Ks, like almost a ho-hum scubel
after mowing down 15 in a row, has 63 postseason strikeouts in his first
seven postseason appearances, second most in a piece.
pitcher's first seven game since Bob Gibson.
So it's like, yeah, that's the guy.
That's the guy they brought in at the deadline.
Brought him in.
And then the bullpen's kind of like in tip top shape now.
Brock Stewart's out there.
Vessia.
They each go one, two, three.
Tanner Scott comes in.
I do want to say we're a munsey hit that homer.
I do have an announcement for the talking baseball fan base.
The Poo family will be at the game tomorrow night.
Wow.
And I said, you know what?
I want to do some.
tickets. So I got us. We're front row right by the small little wall on the right field
right here. Oh, wow. Yeah, like right by the foul pole, right in there. We'll be there for a row. I'm like,
dude, we can catch a show A homer. I think it's sale going. So that's going to be difficult. But like,
you know, there's a bunch of lefties here that can hook one down the line. Yeah. Yeah. And that's the,
I don't know how much more you take away from game one. Hassan Kim, it's
nice plays at short. Ozzie gets a swing late on Tanner Scott as you're mentioning that
bullpen. Can that be something that kicks into gear later? I guess anything else you have on this
before lightly teeing up tomorrow. Well, you mentioned Albies. They get it to 5.3 and then
Evan Phillips comes in and you forget how nasty he is. He was coming back from Tommy John
came back in July this year. Dubon grinds out a walk. And then you have Austin Riley in the
exact same position he was in in the first
series. He's like, oh, I've seen this
movie before. And can you imagine
if he tied the game? He didn't.
Two backup sliders
and a ground ball to mooky to end the game, which also
always shocks me that we're still seeing mooky bets
out there. But yeah, I mean, again, to me, it was
just like a methodical win for the Dodgers.
Yeah, a couple things from
today. One, it's
how good of a year did a
reliever have that you don't track on your
team? Like D.L. Hall came out of the
pen today and it's like, oh, okay. So yeah, your nails. Evan Phillips coming in for the save is like,
wait, he felt like he was the Dodgers closer for three years, three years ago.
He was. Yeah, I know. And it's funny to see some of those guys season stats when you don't track
that team every day. Yeah. And like you mentioned, the Braves had chances in this. I don't think
they're demoralized. Chris Sale, they're probably going to see how he's feeling in the morning.
I don't know if I had to place a bet.
I bet Chris Sale says I'm feeling pretty dang good
and let me get that chicken wing out there.
Because also I think if you're the Braves,
if you're trying to win this series,
you know, you'd want Chris Sale maybe available for game five too.
So I'd like to think he gets out there in some fashion,
depending how he feels is that a full start,
is that 80 pitches, we'll see how the game goes.
In the Dodgers, it'll be Blake Snell,
who every year he just gets better as the season goes on.
I think we keep yugging, Coach.

Let's keep it in the National League
in one that just wrapped up a couple minutes ago.
Not much goes together better than dads and beer.
Padres and Brewers with generational strikeout pitcher
Robbie Ray taking the bump against 2025, 11th,
and rookie of the year voting Jacob Mizorowski.
Top two, seized.
Get Degrees. Camposano and Cronworth.
Open up the scoring.
It's two O Padres.
But in the third, Churio.
It's his year.
Ties it up at two.
Miz wasn't long for the game.
Four innings pitch to run 7Ks.
We're still tied in the 7th, and I told you.
C's get degrees, Contreras, Apocco for the lead.
And then late, the French try to invade, but they say there's no tie France.
The ceiling wins in Milwaukee Brewers.
Three to final.
They made a French joke on the broadcast about the Eiffel Tower.
A little too much on the nose for us French people, okay?
Your guy Persinski had a couple.
They had a couple that were just a little off tonight.
He's just talking.
He's just talking.
Yeah.
There was a couple.
I don't know.
There's a lot of stuff I want to talk about.
on this one. It just happened so it's really fresh in my mind. First of all, we went over
like when Milwaukee opens and closes its roof and how they decide. There's an entire
article written about it in January of this year. Don't ask me why. Right. Because it's a
simulation. That's why people. Anyways, it wasn't open and it did affect the game today, which is
crazy because those whatever is up there, the railing or the rafters, whatever the hell you want
to call it, it's very high up there. Like this is not a typical thing that happened in Milwaukee,
you man. Um, so I don't know where you want to go. Ms. This is this is later in the game.
Yeah, I know. It's, it's just, it's going to be the highlight. I mean, uh, Max, uh, who works at
her company who helps Jimmy with the, with the breakdowns these days. Like, he jumped out
of his seat. He was like, oh my God. Like, what is this? Um, that I don't, I don't know.
I guess let's just do it. Like, what are your thoughts? Because this is, this is going to be the biggest
takeaway from this game. Well, McGill,
before this even happened,
it goes Tautis,
three heaters by you,
and does the same thing to Machado.
Your guy Dustin Harris gets on in between.
Okay, bro, relax.
Full count,
100 dollars per hour in.
But him and Machado going down on, yeah,
pulls the hands in nice right there.
Him and Machado going down on six pitches is,
that's Trevor McGill right there.
But when this happened,
when France turned on this pitch,
and I really thought, like, he does have that, like, hunched over,
kind of like on the plate type swing here.
I feel like he sees the ball really deep.
France does.
I thought he pulled it foul.
And my notes, and I was dictating my notes again,
I was like, dude, that's a pitch he could have drove right there.
And he missed it.
And then all of a sudden, like, wait a second, the ball's in play.
And you see Trio catch it.
And I was like, what the hell is going on there?
If you look up the stats, it was 105 off the bat,
a 49-degree launch angle.
historically those aren't homers but who's to say that i mean there have been homers hit that high
not very often i think if it hits that thing and gets all the way to the warning track right that's the
thing we all i know you're a proud stanford man there's a guy at my gym the other day wearing a
stanford shirt i almost sniped it i just assigned to you and then i was like want to don't do that um
because hey if he catches me i can't well you didn't go to stanford um
I don't know. After a certain point, we're all fake mathematicians because it hit the ceiling and then we're all guessing.
The best math we do have that Dalton was in his bag with was that basically in that launch angle with that exit velo to a couple degrees.
There's been 16 balls hit.
One was a home run.
It was a jock Peterson to write in Texas.
So again, like, what do you do with that?
Like you start comparing body types.
You start comparing pitches.
I don't know.
The simple answer is you would have loved to see it play out.
I also thought it was going foul, like the way Thai France reacted and just how it looked off the bat.
And then that's the crazy part because it's obviously going to the left, but it hits in fair territory.
So the rules say if it hits in fair territory and stays in play, I mean, Padre fans, this is the last thing they want to hear right now.
Honestly, in a way, thank God that lands in Churio's glove.
because imagine if that lands in anywhere else in the field and it's just a live ball
and now we're playing a JM warehouse in Milwaukee.
Like, that's what would have happened.
That's what did happen.
That was a wall ball right there.
I know, but that's what I'm saying.
If it doesn't get caught, it's actually a much larger story.
I mean, Padre fans would want that.
You would have loved to see where the ball landed.
Ty France, who's having this amazing season.
We've talked about his free agency a lot.
like, I don't know, the ball had a little bit of carry on it.
I'm not sure where it would have came down.
Just so people know, the brewers can choose when to open their roof and not have it open.
They play it closed most of the time.
Very seldomly do they have it open.
They'll open like the back, I don't know what you called out, like the shades back there.
And those will be open.
There's also a Ryan Braun rule about day games and having it halfway close.
A lot of weird things.
I found out about that roof.
Don't really need to know them.
Let's get into the game a little bit more.
Miz comes out.
I don't think has his best stuff.
I think the Padreys did a good job putting it on him early.
Bogart's gets the infield hit.
Ethan Salas, I think I have come to a conclusion that like we're looking at,
and this is like a hot take.
We're looking at someone special.
Like the heart rate and the way he processes the game is at a veteran level and he's 20 years old.
And the swing is really, really good.
And you hear, we've heard about this guy since he was 16 years old.
He didn't blow away the minor leagues either, but he's also also very young for each league.
This year he did cut the strikeout rate way down and actually walked more than he struck out in the minor leagues.
So like, you know, he's learning to hit.
He's up here and just looks like a veteran.
I don't know.
In the top of the second, he takes a huge O-O hack on a fastball, and then he gets a cutter from Ms.
and goes back up the middle.
I mean, these are like, this is Jacob Mizorowski we're talking about, right?
now. So then Campesano ends up getting another hit, a little shooter on another off-speed pitch
by Miz. So that puts it one-nothing. And then there was the Jake Bowers play, which I thought was
really interesting because there was a couple different instances here that actually Bowers was
part of. Croninworth hits one to him. And Salas doesn't really like take off right away.
I thought the play here was for Bowers to take that ball step on first because it brought him there
and then get Salas at home. But he kind of zoos it, throws it. Contreras also zoos it. And all of a sudden
we're two nothing. And at this point, you're like, Padres are, they're playing the Brewers game,
what they do to people, getting on base, advancing runners, you know, aggressive running, whatever it may be.
And at that point, I'm like, dude, two nothing.
You got to Mizorowski.
Robbie Ray's probably not long for this game.
You got the bullpen coming.
I felt really good for the Padres there, but it didn't end up that way.
No.
And it's, yeah, Jake Bowers, who I watched a little bit, a lot of his Yankee career.
And then we've followed him on his next steps and talked about how amazing, you know,
the Bowers tie France Bowl.
He's like breakout first baseman.
But also Bowers, he's never had like a natural position.
which, hey, as we start zooming in, you know, are you versatile or do you play first base,
right field, left field when we really need you?
Yeah, you can look back at that one.
For me, this was tough.
So we're watching the game with Cohen, and he's Pad Noamero Uno.
And it's just so funny with these playoff games you expect to come into a game a certain way.
Like Ryan kept saying, you know, you're facing Mizorowski.
You think this is going to be the, hey, maybe we win this game and we scratch it out.
but, you know, those first six innings are going to be hell.
Like, Mizorowski's going to be thrown 103 and a couple of innings you're going to have no hope.
The fact they got him out in the fourth, they get that early lead,
and they have that bullpen that we've been raving about.
They got the hope, and then the Brewers, they answer back, the year of Truroo,
and then the year of Contreras, too, with just easy power to that right center field,
which I know you've talked about how that it is a good hitter's park,
but that's still, to go to that part of the ballpark with ease.
That's a bomb.
113.3 out of the bat, 420, his bad.
Second hardest hit ball of his career is what I have, which is amazing.
Yeah, Yelly, they kept talking about him and his captain stuff, and then somehow, I think
Wainer's like, you know, Jeter and David Wright wore a C on their chest.
Like, no, they didn't wear it.
They were captains, though.
Yeah.
I think the only people that wear are Yelich now
And Perez has, Sal has one, right?
Judge doesn't wear it.
No.
Yeah, we were talking about that today.
The Yelie captain, the C's just in a weird spot.
Yeah, there's too much going on here.
Yeah, again, no, he's our guy.
But like, yeah, there's just a lot.
It should be on the other side, if any, I don't know.
I've just decided I need a Yelly C jersey.
Yeah, you do.
I need one.
Dude, I got mad at you the other day
because Rob posted the footage of us talking to PCA
at the World Baseball Classic.
And I forgot you bought a PCA Team USA jersey
and that was such a good buy by you.
And at the time, it was a medium buy.
Now that's like a great buy.
Nobody fucking cares, Jake.
Whoa! Hard F. It's late.
I'm glad you mentioned the Tatis and Machia.
at bats because I think that's the other one that's digging at.
I mean, Mora Hone gets clipped and the brewers had a lot of good swings on him,
Contreras, with what turns into the game-winning Homer.
But yeah, man, McGill coming in for Tatez,
we were wondering, like, are they going to try to do a casual pitch around
to get to Dustin Harris?
No, instead he just gets the express three four-seam fastballs coming at you.
Machado gets the same deal that in a lot of these playoff games,
the Braves, which sneaky closer than it felt.
This one of the better games of the postseason so far,
it's going to come down to individual moments and at bats,
and a couple of the big Padres didn't come through in the moment.
I do want to clarify just a few things because I was thinking about this stuff.
In the bottom of the third, they get to bases.
Lois-Trio ties it.
The bases loaded and Pratt grounds out to Bogart's,
and they were on the broadcasts they were talking about,
Bauer should have ran through it.
And that's an A.J. Prasinski thing, because if you run through it, you get there faster,
and then it's not a force anymore so the runner on third can score.
But they got rid of that rule.
Right.
So it's called the abandonment rule.
You can, so you can run through the base, but you have to, like, make a turn.
Right.
You don't have to slide.
You can just make a turn to third base, but if you run through it, they call it the abandonment rule and you're out.
And then it gets so a weird thing.
Like when did you abandon?
Did the run cross the plate?
So there is still some things there, but I wanted to point that out.
And then after that, I don't even know.
Like I wanted to mention that like we talk about the Brewers or excuse me,
the Padres bullpen all the time, but like look what the Brewers were able to bring in.
Like it matches it.
It matches it.
As much as we want to talk about, hey, the Padres have this invincible bullpen.
The Brewers, what did they throw today?
Five innings, no runs, something like that?
Yep. Sanzatella, who they traded for, Ashby, who, when he's right, it's unhittable.
He can get a little wild on you.
Uribe, L-L-L-L-Same.
And then Hall and McGill, that, yeah, they can play that game with everyone.
We've almost like we've moved on from them being the good bullpen team because we just know they have it.
Contreras, when he hits the homer, he got, it was, more home comes in, two pitches, two outs.
Yeah.
And so then Contreras is.
up, isn't it going to swing the third swing. He gets a
2-0 and auto takes, and I was so mad, I was
like, what are we doing here? Like, you saw two pitches. Like, you can go
ahead and swing at that 2-0 pitch. I'm like, you just gave the
a bad away, I think. And so working at the 3-2 does not end up
giving the bad away. It's an absolute seed right center
for the game-winning homer, which we talked about the Brewers. They can't hit homers.
And what did they do today? Well, all they're running.
came off of two homers with Trillo and Contreras.
They do have that at the top of their order.
Down below, not so much.
At the top, they can do it.
They showed it today.
Yeah, yeah, pretty funny.
They have the two home runs.
Padre fans, they're kicking themselves, the 12 left on base.
Again, it's not how they thought this game would play out, but it ends up there.
Trio, fifth career postseason homer most in postseason history, Brewer's postseason history.
Yeah, got past Prince Fielder and some.
somebody else.
They mentioned it.
22 years old?
That's silly.
They're going to tee it up tomorrow and we'll be live streaming it.
I will not.
Poppy's going to sleep.
But Ryan Cohen and his Padre feelings will be there.
Some Jimmy Norpen Jolly.
Oh, wow.
Ball knowers anonymous.
Go check out that.
Michael King, which we've talked about the importance for him with San Diego.
And Logan Henderson, who if Milwaukee wants to do what they want to do this postseason,
he does need to be their number two.
And of course, the Pat Murphy quote after the game,
Yuk decided to put his hand on it and swat it down with the ceiling.
Oh, I love that.
Wow.
Crazy.
Get Tom Verducci out of your dugout Brewers.
What is happening, dude?
Why is you just in there?
Tom's got full rain.
I like Tom.
Let him ride.
Get out of there.
Yeah, not a good spot.
He'd already done his interview.
Let's do some American League, and it's brought to you by Nutra Fall.

You're central or my East, Trev.
Let's talk the Yanks.
Okay.
Let's do it.
Yeah.
The Beasts of the East as Garrett J. Cole and the Yanks would try to work out a division series win against the division winning Tampa Bay Rays at the drop.
Bottom three, Jonathan goes around the bases.
Solo Homer off of Cole.
That was all he'd give up.
Five innings pitch, one earned five Ks.
But Drew Rasmussen was the story.
He made the Yankees look like Asmussen.
No hits until two outs in the eighth.
And that guy got thrown out going for third on a double.
The Baker cakes up the W in the ninth.
Ray's win, won nothing final.
I mean, I don't know what there is to say.
this is this was this was the raise at their finest and the Yankees not at their
finest was it the raise at their finest not really not really that's part of the
problem I mean if you're if you're starting pitcher has a no-no into the eighth that's pretty good
and it's kind of your calling card and I obviously trev you and I take an odd amount of pride
about the different players we do cover on the show throughout the year and I do think whenever
Drew Rasmussen gets brought up. We try to give him his flowers that we can because this year
it was 172 innings at 267 ERA. Last year it was 31 starts at 276. Like when he's been on the field
for the Tampa Bay raise, he's had a 271 ERA for 600 innings now. He's nasty and especially
against my Yankees where after tonight, I want to say he's pitched 67 career innings in the ERAs
like a 1-5 or a 1-6, and that's with a dud in there.
So basically, when he sees the pinstripes, he is filthy.
I was just going to read off him against the Yankees stats.
Please.
Yeah, no, no, you did it.
You did it.
You did it.
You did it.
What did you say about Cam Schlittler?
You need to be good in the playoffs.
You need to be good against the Red Sox.
For the race, just be good every time.
Is that impression, was that me?
That's what you sound like, yeah.
Drew Rasmussen,
led the AL and whip.
That doesn't get talked about enough.
I like that.
And he had a pretty good one tonight.
That, yeah, the Yankees went with their lefty stack lineup.
He had his cutter, sinker, foreseem, and changeup, especially that changeup working.
Yeah, I mean, Jimmy was in the bad place because all he saw on that field was Toronto last year when the Yankees got splittered to death by Gossman and you Savage.
In a way, it felt like that.
which sucks because that's what Yankee fans are looking around
and being like, Cole didn't have his best, but he battled.
The Yankees' bullpen looked good.
And they still had a swinger.
It was a one-run game for the whole game.
Like, they were a swing, a bad pitch away from this being more baseball,
and yet it was never there.
They didn't get a bad pitch.
I mean, there was that, I marked that Spencer Jones strike out on the change.
I said that's the nastiest change that anyone's thrown all year long.
I think is, well, it's filthy, just drop out of the zone.
It was there the entire way.
Look at that.
That looks like a Yamamoto split.
Yeah.
Disgusting right there.
And what is the model?
You know, like every team has their models.
I saw our guy Lance Bro talking about the Cubs and like their model.
It just hasn't given them velocity.
Hasn't valued velocity enough.
And so like they just don't strike anybody out.
And that's why their pitching's been bad.
I'm like, well, that seems like a faulty model.
Bad model.
We probably want some Velo there.
What model do the Ray's use where they're the only team that throws changeups?
Or are these same side changeups?
Today, not so much same side changeups,
but like they've been the change up team.
Maybe they need to, let's hack their model.
I don't know.
Yeah, and that's the, if you really want to get into Yankee Fears,
A, go check out talking Yanks with me and Jimmy, high and tight and sad.
But the next two to three raised pitchers,
going are going to be Freddie Peralta,
righty, fastball,
Cambio, and then after them,
if they want, Nick Martinez,
fastball, combio.
Like, yeah,
that had us in a little bit of a dark place.
And I guess something I'd want to ask you, Trev,
the Yankees go with their lefty stack,
and Freddie Peralta, for example,
like lefties are better against him.
I guess when you're playoff pitching
and I guess guys throwing their better pitches more,
if that sounds dumb or not.
Is there anything?
Like our chat or is should the Yankees put a couple more Ritees in the lineup
just to like, so it feels different and they have to pitch differently?
Because it would be Caballero.
Elliot Ramos is on the Yankees.
I say yes.
And the reason I'll say this, and I haven't pitched in a long damn time,
but actually, I don't know if it was, what am I forgetting his name right now?
Ron Darling might have said this.
Somebody said this.
When you stack a lineup full of lefties,
if you get on a roll against lefties,
there's nothing to stop your role.
Like if you start feeling the change up
or you start saying,
hey, I can cut this ball on the inner part of the plate
to the lefties right now.
I can get it in there.
And I feel really comfortable.
Well, there's nothing to break it up.
Like, Lombard had great swings
against Rasmussen today.
Yeah.
But, like, he was able just to keep like,
hey, I'm feeling good against lefties,
and now all I see is lefties.
So I think there is something to have the lineup somewhat staggered,
especially if the splits are insane one way, go ahead and have it at it.
But if they're not, like, I think it's, it does you better as a lineup to kind of break it up.
So the pitcher can't get on a roll like Rasmussen did today.
Makes sense to me.
I agree.
That'll be interesting to see how they address that.
And, yeah, again, the snaps here.
I can do Sad Boy Yankees stuff.
Go listen to Talking Yanks for that.
Drew Rasmussen, in MLB postseason history,
eight plus innings pitch, one hit or less, 10 plus K's.
Rasmussen, Blake Snell, Roger Clemens, Mike Musena.
So, yeah, that was the kind of night he had against the Yankees.
And again, I guess the other just dark thoughts,
because I do think people like that.
flashbacks to last year where Toronto won the division.
The Yankees went there.
They got stomped.
The race, again, with the best home team in baseball this year,
win a one-nothing game where the Yankees get no hit.
The Yankee fans, the energy from the Boston series is immediately gone.
Three quick things on this.
Number one, Jonathan Aranda, beautiful swing on the change-ups,
beat a change-ups that Garrett-Cole,
through. You got to give him credit.
I mean, this is these three guys
at the top of their order. It felt like they were coming up
all the time for some reason in this game.
And Aranda,
I mean, taking an early lead is great.
It's all they needed tonight.
Second thing, do you think cash
if, let's just say
Wells lines out to the first
basement there. Do you think
cash, let's
Resby using go out there for the ninth?
Because this is that situation.
He's dealt with with Blake Snell.
Like, he's at that point at what, how many pitches?
He went back out of the eighth at 94.
So 101.
Does he go back out with 101 pitch?
I think he just threw 117 against the Yanks the last time he faced him.
So.
That's right.
Because that was cam through that many the other day.
Has he picked?
Oh, 114.
Yeah.
So it's interesting because it's extra rests.
He hasn't pitched since the 22nd.
But do you think he does it?
I do.
I think the Snell thing is when he pulled Snell in the 2020 playoffs,
that was probably the thing Kevin Cash is still the most associated with.
And with the extra rest.
And like, I think there's a comma comma, that it's like,
this is still sports.
Like have Drew Rasmussen pitch and no hitter.
Obviously, you know, I don't think we can be doing 130 or anything like that,
especially when you have Baker, who had a perfect year closing games.
But yeah, go get it.
And especially the dude had two nine-pitch innings.
Do that again.
Actually, please don't do that again.
Although he'll be lined up for game four,
which it's guaranteed to go there if the Yankees win, but they haven't.
Wells running through a stop sign, insane.
Says you've got to take chances sometimes.
The win probability added, which I've grown to actually like this year.
We kind of talk about it on the Twins broadcasts about, you know, bases loaded, nobody out.
Your running expectancy is like two and a half, whatever it is, and just changes.
Someone put this out.
Someone on section 10, the Red Sox spot.
0.01 says.
0.01 win probably added if you go from second to third base with 12.
And it's also just like the rule you learn when you're 10, like don't make.
the first or third out at third base.
So there's also that.
Yeah.
And that wasn't even close.
Like that was not like,
like, I don't get it.
I don't get it at all.
I'll say a couple things that are part of them will be contradictory.
Or it'll be a contradictory sandwich.
One, can't happen.
No.
Can't happen.
You just broke up a no hitter.
You're going to be a runner on second base.
They probably pinch run Caballero,
who can be a pest on the bases.
Stanton comes up.
Rasmuson.
loses the no hitter, like you talk about decision making or just feeling a moment.
Again, I don't know what happens, but you needed to feel that moment after what had happened.
Second, part of me gets it.
You're being no hit.
Like, you're trying to be a hero.
Like, that's what you're excited.
Exactly.
That's all it is.
I know.
You're an adult.
You're professional.
You got to control that a little bit.
I get it.
The corner in Tampa is a little weird and he's a catcher who can run decent for a catcher.
part of me gets it.
Again, part one, remember, was can't happen, and this is a sandwich.
And then you mentioned his quote after the game was, you know, what is it?
It needs a certain amount of risk or the play has a certain amount of risk.
Joe's McFly was told this quote, you have to take risks.
Is the start of the quote?
Joe's McFly heard that and he goes, no, you don't.
And it's kind of true in that spot because like you said, the 0.01% win probability added was not worth it.
So it's brutal, but he's the only guy who hit a baseball.
So I'm not going to be mad at him.
That's really it.
The only other thing I had was cash lifted Caminero for the pinch runner there
and the bottom of the eighth.
So like, I get it.
Like if you're going to put Mateo in there for defense in the bottom of the ninth,
then or the top of the ninth, then like by all means, go ahead and run for him now.
Because what does it matter?
like you're going to you're going to put them in for defense anyway but in a one-oh game i thought
that was a little crazy like again the yankees fantasy world jencarlo pinch hits and hits a homer
and then you go to extra innings and they don't have cam and arrow i i agree with you um how about
ben ben williamson going out there to third base he's got a little he might be on next year's
trevor ploof team if he plays his cards right um they the american league has the off day
so you will not see them tomorrow.
Cam Schlittler takes the bump against Freddie Peralta,
New York Yankees ace against New York Mets ace Monday.
Must win?
No comma.
I mean, obviously you don't want to be down 2-0.
The race are worst-versed lefties,
and the Yankees have Freed and Rodon lined up for the stadium.
You could play the home-home game and take it to game five.
but yeah, dude, Cam Schlittler.
Like, yes.
I'll just walk all over myself today.

for full details. Golly.
You nailed it. Appropriate.
Appropriate. It's 1 a.m.
Let's do the game of the day. Why do we save this?
Chris Rose.
The two elites from the AL Central, a best of five to figure out if Cleveland can be the
guardians of their division title or if the Chicago White Sox can get to the ALCS.
guards leave the bases loaded in the third, which has Cleveland fans feeling me sick.
Messick gives up the moonshot to Mooney.
Munataka Murakami, two run homer, it's two nothing socks.
How about the pitching?
A lot of H. Erley, Hagen, Hudson, Hicks, and how about a G at the end?
Grant Taylor, gang, four innings clean.
Montgomery with the insurance run.
Chicago. They win
3-0-0 final.
I actually listened to a little
Wiz Khalifa the other day with Teddy, a little Taylor gang.
And? It's great.
It's classic. What song? Songs.
I don't know.
It's like the album that he's all like
in smoke, like green smoke.
I mean, I'm guessing
it wasn't Young, Wild, and Free.
I don't... I'm on my level, yeah.
Oh, shit.
Yeah.
That was like 2011 right there.
Black and yellow. That's a great.
Yeah, it was on that. I think that's on that.
I know what it is.
Everyone unsubscribe.
Everyone stopped.
You know what it is.
Black and yellow, black and yellow.
Yeah, you need to sing some Beatles or something.
We were actually doing that before the show.
All Street Cread gone.
Trev, this was the afternoon shift.
Your AL Central.
I'll let you kick off.
talk's kind of getting scary right now.
I mean, okay, one thing I got to get off my chest.
I'm sick of like chaos for bullpen games.
We got to get out of that.
We're done.
Like maybe the tigers have that, like, and they have like a patent on it.
If you want to do it for the tigers, I guess.
But we can't do it for every team.
Controlled chaos is what we're calling a bulk bullpen game.
Yeah.
It's not chaos, dude.
don't I don't like it.
Anyways,
that's what we got today.
It's what we got today.
And I wrote on my notes that Hagan Smith,
I feel like,
is a guy we're going to be talking about for a long time.
Two starts the game off.
Great.
Ends at walking three guys in a row before giving way to the rest of the relievers.
But like they were talking about him and just like,
he's won at every level.
He's been like,
his numbers are off the charts,
number two prospect owned to the guy that drafted out of UCLA this year.
So I don't know.
That's a little scary for me in my central.
that this guy has just come up and been this good.
And the Guardians, if you look at who they have, whatever it is.
I thought it was a cool matchup, though, him and Messick going up against each other.
A couple young left-handed pitchers in the AL Central.
But I guess this is, there's a lot of things that happened that Chicago did really, really well.
And they're starting to look like they have a playoff formula, which is like, throw the shit out of the ball and hit a homer or two and call game.
And I kind of like played better defense than you'd give them credit for it.
Like I don't, that's kind of what I have here.
Yeah, there was the baseball boys around our office today.
There was a lot of chatter like a lot of these games have felt kind of similar.
And yeah, it's because that's where baseball's gotten.
Like you're going to throw your high leverage arms, whether you got starters or you don't.
You're going to have a couple chances to do it.
And if the other team gets that early lead, you feel the pressure because especially
with this, like, I mean, this was the definition of baseball.
That base is loaded jam.
Cleveland's ready to pop.
Like, we're waiting for postseason baseball.
We got the buy.
We've got the White Sox on the rope on this bullpen day.
That if you break one of the pieces, it feels like you've won the war.
Hudson comes in and gets out of it with the fly ball.
And then the next inning, Miguel Vargas, who, again, has been one of the
best players in baseball this year.
That's not hyperbole.
and then Mune, who's, if you're an actual power guy and the threat is always there,
and by the way, this dude, there's something in the, like, he has it.
I don't know what that means.
I don't know if every year ends with him having a 220 batting average,
but, like, this moment wasn't going to be big for him, and you saw that.
And a pitcher when they see that man at the plate,
the one thought in his head is don't give up a home run.
And when that's in your head, that's part of the problem, that they go up to O.
And then when you get to do pitching chaos or whatever we want to do,
and I'm with you, like, it's not great for the sport that it does make my head cycle
on some of those conversations of like, if you lose your starting pitcher,
you have to lose the DH or something like that.
I know it sounds Looney Tunes, but I would love the world to get back to starting pitchers
because it's just gnarly, man.
Like Jordan Hicks, who, hey, here's 101 in the single.
he's always had. Like, all right, let's give him the righty lane. Anthony Kay, who's revived himself.
Here's 98 from the left side that it's just a brutal matchup. But what jumped out to me,
like you said, the guy who started this game, Hagen Smith, and then Grant Taylor at the back end of
this game, like that's 6.2 innings of dominant baseball that all these teams are searching for that.
And Jordan Hicks looks great. But look, this doesn't work for 162. So it's not going to take over
baseball. In a short series, like, it can work and it can look really good and it has you wondering,
like, why can't we just do this more off? And it's like, well, in theory, you could. I mean,
we're going to, we're going to go to a most teams are going to have a six-man rotation. That's just
how they're doing it in the minor leagues now in AAA. They play six days in a row and they have
Monday off, I think it is. So like, we're going to get to that point. I do think with a six-man
rotation, bullpen's arrested more. I guess there's one less guy. They might need to make an
a demit to the rosters here.
But shorter
outings are probably going to be in play
for the most part.
But yeah, in the playoffs, it definitely
works. And you're right about the Guardians.
They had their chances, back-to-back innings with bases loaded.
Playoff, Rokio's up there with
bases loaded after the White Sox scored.
And like, is this where Cleveland gets back in it?
Because usually it is, it's one big swing.
And he doesn't.
I'm also, push the run across.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of, I'm a big fan of,
I'm a big fan of get the zero off the scoreboard.
I think there is something psychological with that,
that Bazana hits that double and it's Nathaniel Lowe running,
that basically if it's almost any other guardian,
that probably scores them and that's off the board.
Is what it is.
Gavin Williams takes the bump tomorrow.
I guess the other thing from this game, well, a couple things.
The White Sox and their three postseason games haven't trailed,
which, again, that's a very different postseason feeling,
and that's part of the reason they're all walking around very tall right now.
also dude the Tommy fan ball I don't know what to do with that because my guy leaned into one and as Tommy fan will let you know he hit a very similar ball two weeks ago that went 420 feet this gets caught at the wall
yeah look I think just bad base running here yeah I don't know what was going on anyway at first I was like okay what did we go Vargas look at Tommy fam or did he look at Sobrowski who like was pissed like
he gave up a homer here and then just start kind of like jogging but that that really wasn't the case i'm
not really sure what happened here of vargas is just a complete mistake i will say this like the numbers
exit velo and launch angle that's what tommy fam is looking at maybe maybe in the wind he because he's
a weather guy i think yeah i think he likes the weather he mentioned a crosswind he mentioned
acrosswind but like how did they come off your bat like did that that top spin off his bat did a knuckle
off of his bat because it surely didn't back spin it so
like those are all different things. They might come off at the right angle and the right
speed, but did you, again, did you top spin it? Did you knuckle it? Like, if you knuckle a ball,
just it's a weird flight. And that happens. You and I aren't social media, Svance, Trev.
That Tommy Fam loading this up on his Instagram to me is so funny. Just picture him
typing that out. Do you think he's like, is there a conspiracy against him or something? I don't
really know what he's trying to get at right here. I don't think it's,
conspiracy against him. I think there's
been questions about the balls in baseball
for a while that like
100% they're not
identical. We know that. We see the
pitchers throw away the ball
every other pitch. We can't get
started on that right now because that's a rabbit
who did we
used to bring in here to talk about balls?
Dr. Meredith will. Dr. Meredith
Yes. Yes.
I haven't heard from her. Where is she
at? I haven't seen her in a little while.
She normally is winter meeting sometimes, but
haven't seen.
We need to talk to Dr. Meredith.
I also wanted to bring up before the fam thing,
which I think has helped, you know,
in this postseason,
we've actually seen this quite a bit now.
It's first at bat of the inning,
like a good defensive play,
and how much that, like, thwarts momentum.
So, like, in the bottom of the fifth,
Kwan has a great aback against K,
works to the three, two,
fouls a bunch of pitches off,
and it gets jammed.
Kay goes to his glove side,
like weird spin on it,
makes the play, like, that inning could be completely different if Kwan gets on, but like,
you make the play.
And that and like those little things like that, which might not like show up crazy in a box
score, like change the complexion of the game.
That's not the word I'm looking for.
Yeah.
Yeah, it is.
Yeah.
Nailed it.
Anyways.
Cronenworth had another one of those.
Croninworth had one.
Grant Holmes had one in the previous series against the Phillies.
Just watch out for those.
Like the first, when guys are getting off, like leading off an inning, they're scoring.
Yeah.
So I wanted to point that out.
Yeah.
And Guardians, hey, obviously not what you want.
Gavin Williams will be in the next game against Sean Burke slash pitching white socks chaos.
We'll see what that looks like.
And they're also saying, hey, our top five went 0 for 18 today.
So let's not do that again.
I also want to list off this four-inning save crew in the postseason.
Grant Taylor, Lance McCullors Jr., 2017 ALCS Game 7.
That's the Snapdragon game.
Madison Bumgarner, 2014 World Series Game 7.
Sammy Stewart, not in my book.
Pedro Bourbonne, in my book, but because Junior played in the league when I was getting into it,
Invita Blue.
So that's, okay, hand up.
Kyle Teal scores from first base on a weird Colson Montgomery cue ball.
Justin Dersheel sends him.
Son of Mike Dersheel,
who was also a third base coach for the Royals.
A guy that I used to see all the time was my boy.
He's the guy that held up Alex Gordon in game seven of the World Series.
So do you think Justin's like, I ain't doing it, dad?
I ain't doing it.
And that family trauma allowed this run to score?
You know, sometimes I wonder why we're the best coach, Trev.
And then you get in your drusial third base family back.
I mean, it's pretty cool that they're both third base coaches too.
It's wild.
Like there's a lot of, there's a lot of, my guy.
I always, I do love that the third baseman, third base.
third base coach relationship.
Like, that's a nice thing.
Baseball needs more of that.
We need more consistent coaching staffs
and more divisional games,
but we're going to have a long offseason
to talk about a lot of that.
Trev, because it's Sunday,
that means it's time to send everyone out
with our single game parlay
for tomorrow's slate presented by the fanatic sports and casino.
So it's NL baseball.
We are going to
the Dodgers game.
And it's Snell. He's my guy.
The later the year gets, the more I like him.
And he goes for one thing.
He's going for the ponches.
He'll give some walks too.
But it's seven plunge, seven plunge.
Seven plus ponches,
strikeouts by Snell.
Dodgers by one and a half.
Tommy Edmund one hit.
That gives you a nice, juicy one last time.
We went two for three last time.
Not great for the parlay.
But if you want to write it out,
however you want to write it out.

It's been a while since we mixed it up and there.
So thank, just giving us love.
And hope you have fun with the fam at the game tomorrow is what they said, Trev.
Thank you.
I think I'm going to be wearing my John Boy Media super tie-dye shirt.
Just I really, I'm peacocking.
I'm peacocking.
Bring your dinosaur glasses just in case.
Just so everyone knows, I mean, business.
We will be live streaming on Jam Baseball tomorrow.
Like I said, that Padres game, the 4 p.m. with Cohen, Norp Jolly, and some of the crew.
We will not be recording talking baseball tomorrow because Trev's going to spend time with his family.
I'm just going to sleep.
So thank you.
Shout out Rob Chiracroko, Dalton Feeley.
Maybe a little football.
London game's on in 20 minutes.
Oh, I forgot about that.
Love that.
Yeah, go Rams go.
They're in Philly, baby.
10 a.m. game.
I'm watching that, going straight to the yard.
Come on nine. I'm not bringing these. I can't lose these. Can't lose those, yeah.
What kid is that?
