GREAT MLB Championship Series Games! | 1192
00:02 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. Can you believe it? The brewers go up 2-0,0, and Tampa blows it at the dropper. Do the guards win it? Let's talk, Paul. Kevin Kelly. Oh my God, we both pitched.
00:25 You didn't answer me. I was going to say Mike. Hello and welcome to talking baseball, presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino. If you're logging in your baseball, but it's Fanatic Sports and Casino is the place to do it. Winning Hits Differences. here. I'm Jake Storelli.
00:40 That voice you heard, Jolly Olive, that's right. You've seen the videos. You heard his Mets prediction on this very show. We can't go one show. And now it's Octubre. That's good. As Trev, I think he's taking care of a family matter.
00:56 He's at the Bills Rams game. No, let's not cover for him. Touchdown Rams, are they going to go for two? We're live right now. Oh, they tied it up. Him and Dahl have a little extra side hustle on it. Anyways, again, you know I support our football brethren, but that's not what tonight is for right now.
01:12 It's for Milwaukee. 2-0 on the Dodgers. And then I think that's overshadowed what happened tonight because we kind of had a fart in the trough. Jack Oliver, how are you? That's a fart in the truck. It's insane. I'm good, Jake.
01:29 It's 11.30 p.m. Eastern Time. No better time to talk about postseason ball. We got two really good ones today. I had two surprise outcomes, IMO, and some formulas working. I'm excited to chop up with you, Jake. Where do you want to start? I think we're going to cron pot it today. Shout out Rob.
01:48 Shout out, doll. We're live getting after it. Jolly did a double live stream into this episode of talking baseball. So everyone give him some love, even though he's not going to brag to you about his former playing days. And he's not going to tell you about how much extra money he has to give you, even though he won't. He can make frivolous bets like that. Crazy. About Bill's Rams.
02:10 I won't talk. No, we don't need to bury that. Miss you, coach. Get better. He's at, he's at a football. Let's, you know what, DJ Bobbo,
02:20 let's do some postseason burns and they're presented by booking.com, booking. Yeah, an official travel partner of the MLB. It's game two in Milwaukee, Algonquin for the good place. Logan Ricky Henderson would try to steal game two
02:39 against Yoshita. Nobu Yamamoto Trying to tie up the series Going back to L.A. Top one, the sack fly is underrated Teosker gets a little grouchy. It's one-nothing Dodgers. Is that all Yamamoto needed?
02:54 No, no. Contreras with the RBI single, were tied up at one. And then the Brewers' defense. I think those boys might have had too many beers. They throw the ball around the field. Even Logan Henderson, four innings of two earned run ball,
03:09 four run for Logan. But the Milwaukee Brewers down four to three in the fifth. Contreras goes yard call again. Bernie Brewer himself. And then the RBI single to take the lead. Then it's Bryce Tereng. Jake breaks. Bowers with the RBI single.
03:30 It's seven for Brewers and it would stay that way because their bullpen doesn't allow anything. Henderson to May to Romero, Uribe to Ashby, Milwaukee goes up two games to nothing after winning 7-4 final. Thank you to our partners at booking.com. Make it easy for baseball fans to get where they want to be. Booking.com, booking dot yeah,
03:55 an official travel partner of MLB, Major League Baseball trademarks used with permission. Jolly Olive, where do we begin? Nicely done, Jake. Do you want the standings I can give them to them? No, no, no. I can do you. Actually, yeah.
04:09 I think I kind of did. 2-0. The Brewers are up 2-0 in the NLCS. I don't know the numbers, but how many times has a team won the first two games of a playoff series at home and not gone on to win the series? It's starting to feel very magical in Milwaukee. Jake, I really liked watching this game, man,
04:27 because I feel like I already know that I'm having a bad year predicting what's going to happen on a baseball field. And whatever I thought would happen in this game didn't really happen. It was kind of an off game for everybody. The Brewers making two errors. Both of them coming from the same player, not being able to throw to first base. I mean, on the Dodgers side,
04:49 is there any pitcher that you would pick to feel like a safe lock-in for a playoff win other than Yoshinoviyombo Yamamoto? And that's the guy that couldn't escape the third inning today. So it was just a game of improbable at bats and things you don't see these teams usually doing. And in the end, the Brewers are going to leave their home stadium with a 2-0 series lead,
05:12 which I just don't think a lot of people had chalked up when they were going into this thing. No, I mean, with Yamamoto and how much of the dude he has been in the postseason, I mean, we were laughing when they initially lined up their rotation because, A, the guys they can shoot out of their rotation, it felt like you could do a dealer's choice and not really do wrong. But then it was also like, well, I guess they're just lining up Yamamoto because he's the baddest man around with his road starts this year and what he did against the Braves, that it was like, oh, well, game two, on the road. Okay, so Dodgers are either going up 2-0 or they're going to tie it 1-1.
05:48 Because they felt this guy had felt invincible. I mean, we had to go into his playoff game log to find out when he had gotten God. And I guess there was a Phillies game in there that I don't. Yeah, last year. Again, gotten God's kind of loose. But like, this guy had the throne for if you needed one pitcher to pitch in a major league postseason game, it would be this guy. And his final stat line is 2.2 3 earn runs.
06:15 What? I mean, Jake, this is the fate of the universe, guys. Aliens are coming to invade who you got. Right. It was Yoshinov Yamamoto. And last year, we discovered this on stream. So he gives up the first inning run. Brewers get ahead early.
06:30 And I was thinking, and Dalp pulled it up quick. I was like, how many times has Yamamoto given up a first inning run in a playoff game? The last time he did that was the 2025 NLCS game two in Milwaukee. He gave up one run to the Brewers in the first inning, and then he threw a complete game. And it was just a different script tonight. And that's, I think, really cool to see the year-to-year growth and the kind of the evolution of this rivalry a little bit. I think we can safely call this a rivalry. Oh.
07:00 And how it's changed from one year to the next. The Brewers look hungry. They look like you've been saying many times in the show. that they've been preparing for this rematch for a full calendar year at this point. And that's where I had a gulp moment before the series started because, yes, the Brewers have been waiting basically a calendar year for this. Like, okay, we got better in the regular season and basically every facet. We think those guys are going to be there.
07:26 They're there. We're here. But I was also like the Dodgers being like, oh, okay, they're here? Let's do the same thing. Yeah. And the fact that, A, obviously, Milwaukee getting game one and showing the grit they did in that one, that, yeah, to have our first kind of, for me, my favorite back and forth game of the postseason, for sure.
07:48 One nothing, one, two, one, two, one, two, three, three, three, four, four, four, five. And then the Brewers roll from there. I cannot believe what I saw from Yamamoto. The stat that Dalton lined up was he had been to the sixth inning. in four straight postseason road starts. That, like, again, think about how quickly some of the pitchers are getting hooks. And I will say, I had a good conversation with my friend Jimmy today. Some of you guys know him as John Boy.
08:18 But, you know, he was talking about how, like, the play. It was a very Jimmy blunt one. He was like, you know, playoffs don't really start to the CS. And I was like, okay, maybe we're getting Yankee brain a little bit. He was highlighting that, like, the moments get magnified. if you think of a lot of playoff moments. Most of them are CS World Series. There's obviously some DS.
08:40 And the other thing he was saying, and especially with today's baseball, like, I know we saw two games with a lot of hitting, or two teams at least. We also saw new parts of bullpens. Yeah. Like I saw Brock Stewart come out. I mean, I saw a lot of Dodger pitchers come out.
08:55 Eight pitchers in this game is kind of crazy. And then we saw that in the next game. I know you've got some beef with or the raise manager. We'll talk. You know, this, these felt like, not only was the playoff magnitude turned up,
09:11 but also, okay, you can't shoot your best pitcher every pitch because we might have to do this for seven games. And this was the first time we've done a lot of fantasy land with the Dodgers and three Pete and the rotation's invincible and look at the lineup and all that. This was the first time it felt like the guys coming out of their bullpen
09:31 didn't have like inventive. responsibility cloaks on. It felt human. Okay, could we get Boobich? Can we get Stewart? And again, the longest bullpen series goes, they get to Enrique, which I didn't know if anyone would get to that guy this postseason. I don't know.
09:48 Like, it felt like the Brewers were just the better team today. Yeah, I mean, the biggest win of this game might be the brewer's seeing the entirety of the Dodgers bullpen except for Edwin Diaz, especially this early in the series. Because on the brewer's side, I mean, yeah, you can argue that, you know, they've shown Reba and Ashby and McGill, but like, that's been their formula. Every game they've won. It's been those three guys and getting enough from their starter to get to that point. That, like, I really don't feel like it's that much of a disadvantage if they're showing those guys as often as they have been because they've been nails.
10:19 I mean, the Brewers are now up to 28 and two-thirds innings and one earn run from their bullpen in this entire postseason run. They got five perfect innings from the bullpen today. and I feel like most of the story will still be the offense, probably at the end, which we'll talk about. It's the most perfect innings by a team's bullpen in a game in postseason history is what Dahl just showed to me, which if you can't call that unit, the indisputable MVP of any unit on any playoff team in this postseason run, I don't know what to say to you because they've been single-handedly carrying these brewers through, you know, tonight was their largest margin of victory in any postseason game. It was three runs.
10:58 That was it. They've won every game by two or less, which means that their bullpen has been the MVP of every game that they've won. So the fact that this is the largest gap they've put between them and an opponent in any game, and it still was back and forth the entire time is nuts. But it's also made for a really, really memorable run for them so far.
11:17 Yeah, and a stat that I think some analytics teams are probably tracking, even though it doesn't make sense, but it does make sense if you've ever watched the game. It's answering. It's responding. same inning and every time the Dodgers scored, the Brewers answered that same inning. And, I mean, the comma comma, I told, I'm trying to work that in. I don't know if I like it or not.
11:40 Why too? The comma comma of it all. It's kind of just denoting that like, here's something else. Yeah. Not necessary at all. The Dodgers didn't score on their own doing. Yeah. They didn't have a hit that drove in a run.
11:56 I mean, the sack flying the first, I want to. put, I would put a mini asterisk on that. Henderson bounces one, the ball gets away, which was good base running by Mookie, and then they hit the sack fly, which sack fly is underrated, a wise man once said. But, you know, if you,
12:11 a brewer's team that normally doesn't make a lot of errors, although I have to say, you know, they've been sloppy this postseason. Specifically. We've got multiple and multiple games that that's something to track going forward, which they can't afford to do that. And oh my God, can you imagine what Pat Murphy is saying to the lads?
12:27 Have you ever, you're happy. Oh, you got two wins. When Logan Henderson threw that ball away the second time, I don't think I've ever seen a manager that quickly out of the dugout before the play had even ended. Because you could see the regret on his face. He's like, I knew I should have taken him out before that, I know.
12:42 He was past Contreras at that point. It's crazy. I think we need to do. Aasson. Ah, awesome? According to Katie Wu and Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers may be benching Joe Hottani in game three. I don't know how much I buy that, if I'm being honest.
13:03 Well, there's a couple things in play there. I mean, do you want to jump there? It's an injury conversation. I want to give some final Brewers flowers because I do think the bigger talking points are Dodgers, but if I'm a Brewers fan, you know, we just want that trick. No. No? I won't side with you on that one.
13:22 12 hits to the Dodgers three. I'll go with you on that. That's good. Seven runs. You highlighted the. the bullpen, which the names deserve to be said, Dustin May. Revenge challenge.
13:33 How about that? Jojo Romero, trade deadline piece. Teams could have went and got him. The Brewers added him to their mix. And Uribe looks like he's entering that special zone of, he doesn't matter who on the planet is up there. He's coming at you and get ready. And Ashby deserves the knot over him that, I don't know.
13:54 If I was Ashby's agent, I'd be getting awfully excited. right now because he's doing a lot. Yeah, they found that swing man roll for him. It's been really good. That I want to highlight some of the Brewers hitters. That Jake Bowers at bat, 12 pitches. I mean, Dahl's got some crazy stats on here that, like, the at bat itself lasted minutes. Oh, it was seven minutes for the ad bat, and then the next Dodgers inning as a whole was like three minutes or something?
14:22 Yes. Crazy. Yeah, that Bowers 12 pitch against Yamamoto that helps. get him out of the game. Most of pitches any batter has seen in a plate appearance against Yamamoto in his career. Again, this is a guy who makes up pitches. He's got six, seven of them that he can come at you
14:39 with whatever he wants. That that cannot be forgotten. And then just like, I don't know if this is talking Brewers, is this, how would this be, is this the William Contreras game? Is this like how, how do you label it? Low key the William Contreras game. Like, he does something every time.
14:56 Jake, I'm going to do something you're going to like. Oh. I'm going to shout out your self-proclaimed villain of mine, my enemy. Oh. Foolish baseball. Oh, shoot. Who made a great video about while he was like a little sheepish on the brewers in the postseason. And one of the things he mentioned was these like death by a thousand cuts, long at-bat type
15:18 innings where you put up crooked numbers and just tire out the pitchers, it's a harder thing to do in the postseason against more elite pitching. That's exactly what we won them in this game today was long, long at-bats. It's the same thing that one. won them the game against Mason Miller in the ninth inning, which has been their other signature win in this postseason run. That Jake Bowers at bat swung the entire game. It got Yamamoto out of the game early where, you know,
15:39 there was a challenge earlier in that inning on Bryce Terang on the 3-2 pitch where Yama went to tap. He was like, Will Smith should be tap. I don't know. Will Smith didn't give him the okay so he doesn't tap. Kind of looked like he tapped in the moment. That pitch doesn't get challenged. That turns into a walk.
15:53 Bowers comes up later, works him for 12. He gets on with a walk and then Yelich punches the two. run single. The fact that that massive inning that swung the entire game and showed them the entire Dodgers bullpen besides Edwin Diaz, it was all catapulted from just a couple of really nice disciplined at bats. And that's what their identity is, man. And it's really working right now against the best possible pitching they could face. Yeah. And it's a reminder game one, Mizorowski on the ropes, 35 bit double play ball, like how much that could have, how much that could have changed the dominoes that have now happened two nights in a row.
16:30 Brewers, congrats. Brewers, congrats. Logan Henderson, don't throw the ball away, challenge coming up. If and when he gets another start in this series. I do think the rest of the way, Bryce Terang has another great game, obviously. Christian Yelich's first multi-RBI game in the playoffs since his first playoff game in 2018. He's nuts.
16:50 And he gets the start today, which we saw Pat Murphy dealing with the Twin Stripe reporters on the previous game, which that just cracked me up. I mean, that felt like my Avengers world had just gone too far. Let's do some Dodgers, and we'll hit the, as Bobbo did, we'll hit the show hey button because the big guy's in the bad place. Last Homer is on August 18th, which is a stat that if you had the broadcaster, our live streams on, you now that one's getting burnt into your brain. It's a 151 batting average of 455 OPS.
17:23 He looks uncomfortable. On his first to third running the other night, it looked like I gave him 80%. That might have been on the high end. And it's the tricky thing with this sport because everyone goes through slumps, but also at the end of the year, guys are banged up that it's how, how hurt is Shohay? Because the conversation quickly has gone from Trev being like, you can slide him down to five at the furthest.
17:50 He's Shohay Otani to now we've got, you know, the best report. in the world, Katie Wu, saying that Shohei might get benched, basically. So I'm of two minds because we saw Shohei play hurt, admittedly hurt in the 2024 World Series, and it definitely affected his at-bats. He was, like, grimacing after every swing. And we saw a healthier version of him last year in the playoffs, and he tore apart the Reds and tore apart these Brewers in that playoff run. In my mind, he's very clearly hurt.
18:22 And I think that's not like a groundbreaking opinion of it. any sort. It's just some of the swings we saw tonight, especially this one against Jojo. I meant this one really stuck out to me of like, he just looks discombobulated at the play. At the same time, how can you rationalize taking Shoai Otani out of the lineup if he says, I'm good to play? Right. You know what I mean? I know. So the interesting element of this is Hosway DePaula, because he's had one at bat in the series. It was a gritty walk in the ninth inning against McGill. And then they end up losing that game, so it gets kind of overshadowed. but he's been taking in his very, very brief cup of coffee,
18:59 really, really good at bats every single time I watch him on the TV. And if you bench Shohei, because he is hurt, that becomes his spot. So I think there's a compelling argument. But at the same time, it's Shoya Otani. And if he tells you he's healthy, I don't think he's lying to you. It's just, what do you do if you're Dave Roberts? Like, do you go with hot hand? Do you go with an immediate remedy?
19:20 Or do you ride out with the greatest baseball player that's ever lived? Yeah. It's the fun conversation. Ryan Cohen, for those that are in our John Boy Media Circle, if you know this or you don't know this, it's shocking either way. But he's kind of friends with, like, the Roberts family. I think Dave Roberts is his little league coach.
19:37 And he's the biggest Padres fan in the world. Shut up, Cole. Oh, nice. And, you know, Dave Roberts has gone from, is he the weak link with this Dodgers team to now two years in a row? It's, he one of the best managers in baseball, which just shows kind of this goofiness that we treat that position, with. It's going to be very interesting to see how he handles that.
19:59 I'm, I've probably got a little too much Titanic boat captain in me. Okay. I mean, you're down 2-0. I don't think it's dramatic. You're down 2-0. You lost to a team with a better regular season record in their building who's been dreaming of playing you all year. And the four runs you got, two of them were from errors? I think, again, at this point, Dave Roberts has to know show hey, pretty well. Like, what's the batting practice look like?
20:25 Because, you know, when Shohei Otani normally takes batting practice, it's like, oh, that dude's from another planet. Is he taking batting practice and everyone's looking around? Like, that, or is that Shohei Otani and he hasn't played a ton of baseball? He has been hurt. Because I know DePaul is a super prospect, and let's see where he's at in a couple years, because I've seen that go a couple different ways, too, that. I don't know.
20:54 Dave Roberts. Have fun with that one. Because I also, comma, comma. Nice. That was better. I liked it. Shohei Otani coming off the bench and the, I'm feeling.
21:07 Yeah, that Dodgers are. When they need it, it could be interesting. Because there are, we've seen the Dodgers. They do have pinch it at bats out there. You can drag and drop him a little bit. But then the question is, are you, are you playing him? because he's, are you not playing him because he's hurt? Are you not playing him because he's not playing well right now?
21:29 Jake, I'll leave you with this. Yeah. Evan Carter had 18 postseason hits in 2023. Wow. It hasn't been the same after, but sometimes rookies are ready for the stage. And that guy that they have on their bench, they can't really play the field,
21:43 so D.Hs' his only option has taken some very impressive epics. Yeah. I, um, I don't know. Rob batting practice can. Wow, I can't believe you found that. That's insane. That was so fast. Okay.
21:59 Yeah. I mean, yeah. I mean, part of me says let's go sicko mode and throw them in the seventh spot. So there's a day when we look back at Dodgers lineup and it's like, wait, they bet it's show a seventh. And then yet the other thing, I just think you're the Dodgers. If he can go out there and still do that, you know what I'd be mad about? that everyone outside of Andy Pahez can't get a hit with runners in scoring position.
22:25 Two for 26 now? Two for 26? Two for 26 is a team. A lot of solo homerooms. The two, Andy Pahez. Hey, good for him, though. So obviously, show he's going to get the spotlight. And he should be getting,
22:40 are you hurt or are you bad? Yeah. Because, you know, there's a big fella on my team that got a ton of crap for his postseason outings. And then he had kind of the massive postseason everyone was waiting for. Hey, show has obviously earned his keep on a ton of levels, but these games still matter.
22:56 Like, the Dodgers aren't going, well, we won two. Like, no, they want the three Pete. And I don't, I don't know. If he says he can be out there, he's show. I know. But it's like, we know he's not bad. So he has to be hurt. That's like the logical deduction.
23:13 I feel like he got off to a slow start last postseason. So last postseason, he like, I think he had a couple against the Reds and that quick two-gamer. And then the Phillies, they had great starting pitching, so I think they handled him. The Brewer Series, he had the greatest game of all time. He had three home runs in game four, pitch six innings.
23:31 And then World Series, I can look up his numbers. He went nuts. In the NLCS and World Series, 341, a 1.402 OPS. Honestly, so this is interesting, Jake. So Wild Card Game 2 to CS Game 2 last year, three for 29. after CS Game 2 last year, from Game 3 to the end of the World Series,
23:53 382-523 slug over 1,000. So, if we believe in stupid math, next game will begin Shohei Otani's great postseason run. There you go. That Thessalonian is the biggest man I've ever seen. I wouldn't want to fight him. That's why no one will remember your name. Nice. Rob like that reference.
24:15 The next game they will take it off. Day. Nice. Good for... Earned. They're going to travel to Los Angeles. Uh, Bobby Gasser.
24:24 Whoa. We'll be throwing some gasser for Milwaukee. Uh, and Blake Snell. Big game. Legacy outing, low key. Big game.
24:34 Uh, he's got two Siamas. Um, for in a Dodgers uniform. And he's a streamer. And he's a streamer. So, just like Joe's McFly. Uh, the two,
24:43 the two Schlefties will be dealing in two between them, there will be a Guardians' raise game. And before we get to that, can I tell the people about Shopify? Sure can. I can do whatever I want. Our merch store has grown a lot. License MLB gear, teams across the entire league, new drops, and where Shopify has become essential is how it connects products to people. Google, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, the shop app.
25:11 How about a little chat GPT? That's right. from inside an AI conversation without ever leaving, the reach keeps expanding and the store is built to capture however and whatever all of it. Again, they've literally been with us since shirt number one. It might have been a CCTVT4YB shirt. If you know, you know. Now we've got a lot. Our Hayes Days collection launch and just everything we have,
25:40 and it's all through Shopify. It's a huge catalog. and they take care of pretty much all of it. So if you've ever thought about building something on your own, start your free trial at shopify.com slash talking. That was nice. Tampa hosting Cleveland for a chance to go to the World Series like a Nordic secret Santa, the raise Drew Rasmussen.
26:07 While Foster the People Griffin would have Cleveland and their pumped up kicks ready to go. Top, bottom one. Caminero, RBI single to center, and it's feeling like midnight as Johnny DeLuca gets the RBI single. Two nothing raised. They did leave the bases loaded. And it would stay that way into the sixth. Griffin, four innings, two earn run.
26:33 Rasmussen, six innings. Two earn runs. They come in the six, seven. Chase DeLauder, country roads, take me home. And how about San Francisco, John? Giants great. Patrick Bailey, yard call. Like a good night out, we're tied up at two.
26:52 But then in the eighth, everybody get low. Nathaniel Lau, till the land. How about the fortitude to make it fortitude? But former Met, Cedric Mullins, he goes yard call, cuts the lead in half. Fort a tree. And then slightly controversial. It was Ramirez, the bloop RBI single off of? Not Brian Baker.
27:22 And then Adele says, fire to the rain. The two RBI double, just like that. It's Griffin, Espino, Cantillo, Gattis, Sobrowski, and the bad man, Cade Smith, the guard dogs. Take game one in the drop 7-3 fine. You know, Cedric Mullins played like eight years on the Orioles. He had a 30-30 season one. I don't think so.
27:50 I think he did. I think he came up with the Mets. Great Orioles, Cedric Mullins. Great game. Great Oriole. By the Guardians of Nice. I could see him calling Orioles games in a couple moons. Yeah?
28:04 Yeah. Good personality. They love him over there. Same. He loved them. Didn't want to play for us. It's not about that, Jake. It's not about that.
28:13 It's not about that. I almost said something I didn't like. Jolly, where do we begin? Jake, I want to begin with this because I think it's important, okay? If you'll allow me. Four innings, two run runs from Foster Griffin. Four RBIs combined from Lao and Adele. The Guardian's trade deadline.
28:34 Oh, wow. The Guardian's trade deadline won them game one of the ALCS. I see what you did there. Okay. It's just true. And I mean like... Oh, and Patrick Bailey's Homer didn't count. Patrick, thank you.
28:45 Kind of earlier, but it's okay. Dalt showed me a crazy thing. Apparently the Guardians have converted Patrick Bailey into like a plus plus pull in the air bat or something like that. Some Dalt stats, you know, 1130. Why not? Unbelievable showing by all of their trade deadline guys. Obviously, J. Remst stole the show in the last games of the DS,
29:04 but Nathaniel Lau, a couple lefty, lefty knocks today. Chase the Lodder going first pitch when Drew Rasmussen looked unhittable. And then Bailey tying the game also on a first pitch. home run. I said to you many times throughout that stream, especially early, that I thought we were just going to watch Drew Rasmussen kind of run over another offense. He was through four innings. He had in a lot of run. It's up to 13 squirrels innings in the postseason. All of a sudden, it's the Guardians playing long ball, which, what? How does that happen? It happens on the biggest stage game, one of the CS in not Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg.
29:38 They stole one, man. I really did not see the path to victory as much in this game. They've been using a lot of their relievers, especially as of late. Good for the Guardians, man. I mean, that's a tough place to go into a tough pitcher against. I want to talk a little bit later about Ray's bullpen deployment. I have some gripes. I'm sure their fans do as well. Yeah, we'll get there.
29:58 I think for me, Rasmussen was Rasmussen. I mean, we were sitting there during the live stream being like, I think he got to, what, 13 scoreless? And then he gives up the solo homer. And it's like, okay, well, I guess he has to give something up and De Lauder swings kind of crazy, and it's opposite field, and you're just like, all right, first pitch, whatever. And then we're debating if he comes out for the next inning,
30:21 he does, gives it up, and he's out of the game that, you know, people are doing reverse Kevin Cash and takeout Snell, which is kind of crazy that people still remember. I mean, we got graphics popping up on each of these pitches because the innings just begun that there's something about that that felt off, and you're looking around kind of in very guardians fashion, Like, how did we get here? Rasmussen was dealing.
30:45 And I saw your face have the same reaction, and I kind of remembered it in live time. This game had a chance to be over in the first inning. Yes. And sometimes, oftentimes we compliment the Rays, who, by the way, still liking this series, Tampa. Sorry, Cleveland, although I think you guys are loving Ohio versus the world right now. Taylor Wals comes up, who, you know,
31:07 we highlight these rays and how they have specialists on their team and lefty-righty platoon guys. In the playoffs, every person ends up showing up. Taylor Wall strikes out on three pitches, and basically there's the same pitch they got him, that if he hits a ball down the line there, it's 5-0 in the first inning, and now are the Guardians trying to hide some of their bullpen?
31:29 Like, how does this game play out? Instead, it's completely different. It dragged on to 2-0 to 2-2. And then that does start to bring us into some of the bullpen decisions because, yeah, your guy, Kevin Cash, has some answering to do. I mean, it was really perplexing. Like, I remember when, so it was the seventh inning, Boozer comes in for Rasmussen, right?
31:54 Rasmussen gets the first batter and then they pull him after the home run. Boozer coming in, fine. Booser's been great. Also a great story. They've been telling him on the broadcast as well about his journey back to the show. Fine and good, great. At one point in the stream, they pan to the Ray's bullpen who's warming up. And Ryan Cohen, who's on the sidelines, goes, that guy's warming up because he didn't know who it was.
32:14 It was Tyler Wells and nothing against Tyler Wells. But Jake, the last time Tyler Wells pitched in a baseball game, playoffs or not, was September 12th. Today is October 12th. I don't understand. That's a month. How is that the lane for him to come in and pitch? It's a tie game in game one of the CS. I know that there was a righty land, sure,
32:41 and I'm sure that they are looking at different things than what we are looking at. But what I also know is that the race, kind of similar to the Brewers, had a system of three or four guys that they were going to every game, and it was working. Yeah. It was Seymour, it was Booser, it was Kevin Kelly,
32:58 who came in a little bit too late, and then, of course, Brian Baker at the end, who doesn't pitch in this game, a game that was tied at two in the seventh inning. how does the best closer in baseball by saves and a ton of other metrics not get the ball in any scenario in this game? It made absolutely no sense to me in the moment. And I feel like it makes less sense now, like looking back on it. Nice.
33:21 So I don't know. That's my spiel. It got me hot. No, you're right. As a fan of the team that the race swept previously, a, you know, some snaps for the race. They did get eight hits off Erasmussen, which was seven more than my team. got. And, you know, you're right.
33:42 When Boozer comes in, and sure you could question Rasmussen coming out for that last inning, we did. He was at 90 pitches. And, again, Rasmussen, his amazing Yankees performance, there was extra rest before. Yeah. And extra rest after, turned out.
34:00 That, yeah, I kind of didn't think he was going to come out in that final inning. Just because I was like, you know, if this is a seven-game set, Does Rasmussen show his face in game four or five? Does he have to show up in a game seven potentially? Boozer, who had an incredible year. But, yeah, when you're through seven innings and it's a tied game, to go to Tyler Wells in that spot,
34:21 who was strong for them in his bullpen role, but you're new to the party. That's a really tough deal. You know, seeing Ian Seymour's line and it's technically clean, seeing Kevin Kelly's line and it's technically clean, although that's, you know, Wells and Cole Solcer get the brunt of that. It's very interesting that game one you would get away from your formula when it was there for you. Yeah, I mean, it was second and third in that seventh inning.
34:50 They didn't send J.R.M. home, which we all felt in the moment could be big. And then they don't opt for the pitching change again. Now they go Seymour for the lane of lefties. Seymour gets Lowe O and two and then throws him basically the same pitch. That was a bad pitch. It was a bad pitch. It was a bad pitch. I don't think it was the wrong decision by Kevin Cash,
35:07 but I just think it was a decision made too late. Yeah. Also in that spot, I mean, I wouldn't hate Brian Baker there either, second and third one out. Game on the line. Use your best pitcher. Like, use your best weapon there. I don't know if it was playing with your food.
35:20 If you didn't want to show them everything that early in the series, I think there's some logic to that. But at the same time, this was a tied game with one out in the eighth inning. And it wasn't until it was dire straits that you saw the raise A bullpen. and it feels like they let one potentially slip away because of that. I'm not going to take anything away from the Guardians because they earned the hell out of that one, especially at the rallies late where they really poured it on and finished the job, unlike the Reyes who were able to do early when they had their chances.
35:47 So kudos to the Guardians, but it just felt like a little bit of mismanaging. You just heard Dalton giggling next to you because he's in our notes and he just highlighted. The Yanks had 12 hits in three games against the Reyes. The Guardians had 14 hits in game one. That's rude. That's rude. That's rude.
36:06 That's really rude. To giggle after. I'll take that for Cedric Mullins' 's tenure. Same amount of October wins this here. Jose Ramirez, Pa. Feels like he came alive a little bit. Dude.
36:20 And not only, because, you know, obviously the hit speak, the runs speak. Dude, they just showed that Joe Adele hit that basically ends the game. Yeah.
36:29 J. Ram's stealing on that play. Caminero goes to cover third that lets the play. ball comes straight through right where Caminero was. He's just watching it go by. And it's, and look, he's just giggling as he scored. This, like, 5-8 thick daddy who's going to get a statue in Cleveland, again, who probably had, I don't know, sometimes it's tough to get in athletes' heads because who actually
36:52 knows. But, you know, he knows he didn't have a J-Ram year. Yeah. For a while, this team didn't know if they were dancing or everything. Here they are in game one of the ALCS. he's back to being the bad man that Chase the Lauder was three for four. And I was saying, do not pitch to Jose Ramirez. Because I just know who he is.
37:11 And I know, you know the exit Velo and some of the nerdier folks will tell you. That's been a hit since the start of baseball every time. And somehow he gets back to first. Ron Darling's mind is blown. All of us were like, oh, he got thrown out. And then, yeah, credit to him. He threw up the no, no, no. and a lot of players throw up the no, no, no, and you're like, yeah, I don't know.
37:33 And everyone is like, I don't know. J. Ram's kind of a sick puppy. He might have got back and he did. But, yeah, obviously, DeLotter deserves a ton of love, legway game. Jay Ramp, it's a casual three hits, two runs. That's something. I mean, like, there was a little bit of a, like, you look at J.R.M.'s postseason numbers in his career, and it's kind of like, wow, like, damn, it's tough.
37:59 Like, before this year, before. this run really. It was always a little underwhelming. He had a bad first two games of the DS. Basically everyone in the Guardians did. I don't want to pigeonhole him. But since game three,
38:11 where he was a big part of the rallies in that game, and then he's obviously homered in the back-to-back from four and five. Nice little hot streak here. Five for his last 12 entering this game. A couple more knocks today. And he just looks like he's looser. Like I feel like I'm seeing him celebrate a lot more
38:25 and get hype a lot more. And I think Rosie said it on baseball today. He has an RBI and four years. great postseason games tied for the longest streak in Cleveland's franchise history for the playoffs, which like, yeah, man, it's J-Ram. Like, that's a statue guy, like you said, in Cleveland. And like, if they're ever going to make that run with him involved in it, he needs to be leading the back. J-Stolato had a great game, too.
38:49 Don't want to detract from that, obviously. But it's J-R-R-M-Go, some of the Guardians go, and tonight, J-Ram went. The Rays after that first inning were three for 27, the rest of the way. Like you said, Foster Griffin locked in. And, hey, as we're starting to get into that time of year where we're seeing a little more of the bullpen. You know, the Guardians had been a lot of Cade Smith, Gattis, Sobrowski, who they show up. I mean, Sobrowski gives up the one run there on the Mullins. Yacker.
39:19 Kintillo, who that guy has been a little bit of a heart attack, but he gets through another inning. Dude, Daniel Espino. What a story. I mean, the way he was throwing the pill in this game. I thought they should have left him in. You know, it feels like he just climbed a rung in the bullpen. And you'll see him whenever they need a tough righty lane. That, yeah, you know, in a very similar way to the Brewers shutting down the game.
39:46 Sorry, Eric Zabrowski. But they shut this game down. And it's, again, if you have Guardian stock, even Guardians fans didn't have Guardian stock, that's their recipe. It's the bullpen postseason, man. It really is. It's becoming a lot. It's a lot, right?
40:07 I also got kind of like an icky feeling from it. The Brewers is a little different for me because I just love, like, those three guys of Uribe, Ashby McGill. Love that. It's been a lot of pitchers used in every game. Yes, I do think in the seven-game series, a balancing does come out. I think even a five-game set, I look at the White Sox and the Guardians. I think the White Sox running out. out of guys to give them four-inning efforts,
40:34 they ended up running out of steam, or comma, comma, the Guardians have now scored, what, nine runs, 27 and four games. Everyone knows the math on that. That's about seven-point-seven. Repeating. We all talked at the same time.
40:52 That, hey, this Guardian's offense, which I did, I had a few angry moments this year, And I think it was Trev dealing with Chris Rose daily. And me and Chris Rose having like a piss off about us not liking either of our teams. That this guardian team, if you go look at the previous Guardian teams from the past decade, which I actually did one night, which actually kind of shocked me because that's not normally my lane. Their World Series team was pretty damn good. There was another team, I want to say, 2018 or so that they were.
41:25 The winning streak, right? The lineup was really there. Like they actually have normally that's what's missing. Normally the Guardians can pitch enough. There's obviously some different levels to it. This Guardian's lineup, I think if you go through this iteration of how we picture that team, like Chase to Lodder season.
41:44 I know rookies in the postseason you don't know, but that's a lot of Cleveland teams don't have Chase to Lodder. Jake, it's going to be dumb. Perfect. I think there's a couple playoff risers in this line. Oh, here we go. Here we go. 41 minutes in.
41:58 I think Joe Adele is a playoff riser. I think Nathaniel Lau is a proven playoff riser. And I think Chase DeLotter show tonight that he's a playoff riser. That's not even factoring in J. Ram into the conversation. Do you say Patrick Bailey? I did not. And that's twice now that you've called me on it and I want to apologize. What about playoff Rochio?
42:17 Not currently with us. Not so much. The high heater. So a couple high fastballs today. That was tough. The high heater getting him this year. Throw him the heater, Ricky. Guardians, kind of.
42:28 Scary. All of a sudden. You said this word too, and it's not to take away. This felt like one of the first stolen games of the postseason. Dude, Messick and Williams both didn't pitch in this game. Austin Riley walkoff, obviously, that was at the buzzer. But this felt kind of like it was a raised game for seven innings in Tampa, game one, the one seed, the only good team in the AL that we kind of thought.
42:52 And then you're walking away and you're like, oh shit. Yeah, and they won it kind of like handily at the end. I threw out the best words in hockey. I've got this going seven now. I think with this early theft, I think it's a buckle up people. I mean, you called guards in five, right? Wasn't that your take? I ended up giving, no, I was raised in six.
43:15 I ended up giving them the bonus. I really wanted to say raise in five. Oh, I meant the DS before against the White Sox when they were down two. Oh, I think you had guards in five, though. I know my guards. They're built to surveillance. They're both to survive and endure. That's all they do.
43:28 It's kind of all they do. It's driving Christmas is insane. They just live. They won't die. So seven is very believable. We'll all die. Okay. Happy birthday.
43:37 Thank you. Thank you, Charlie Olive. What do we got left? We're going to tee up tomorrow's game with a little bit of seat geek. It's time. Oh. Playoff predictions brought to you by Seat Geek. Make sure use code talking 2026, 10% off.
43:53 Oh, Chris Rose you a little bit. Oh, God. Because this is from Chris Rose's disciple, Dalton Feeley. If the Rays lose game two, is there any hope for them to come back on the road versus Cleveland? It gets really scary, really fast because Gavin Williams is probably game three, and he is, I think, the nastiest, the nastiest non-dodger. Nostious, yeah.
44:21 Shout out Treve. It was actually a five to the four. 5. Gavin Williams. Gavin Williams struck out like 200 million badgers this year. 248, so I was close. Thank you, don't. You don't want to face that guy down 2-0 on the road,
44:36 dragging your feet, feeling bad. Hopefully Caminero is okay. But I think tomorrow, Jake, I'm deeming it, a non-mathematical must win. There you go. Damn it. Messick versus Peralta. The rays are worse versus lefties.
44:53 A lot of their platoon guys. Aranda trends down. Hicks turns into Fortez usually. That'll be interesting to see how they do that. And how about, how do I make this about you? Met Ace Freddie Peralta. He pitched for the Brewers for many years and they're actually still playing. The Brewers are still playing baseball so you can talk about them.
45:14 That's crazy. Freddie Peralta taking the pill. And yeah, the update on Camerro is that he is okay. If you missed it, him in midnight. Johnny collided. And it looked like he knocked the wind out of him a little bit. Camonero took a minute to collect himself, stayed in the game. But obviously something to track as this series goes on.
45:37 Yeah, I think the other interesting side to this, and maybe this is why it does feel different, the Ray's being the best home team this season. Like, the TROP is an intimidating place. And the guards had that look. I don't know what their chin-up celebration is, but it kind of gives me the vibe of like, this is horribly rude,
45:57 that like, hey, we, if we're sucking for seven innings, chin up. Because we might just guard them to death. I don't think that's what it is, but that's what it feels like. I mean, the very first play of today's game was the double from Yandi that takes a bizarre hop on Stephen Kwan
46:16 who's like an immaculate defender and it just skips by him to the wall. And that's the difference. Yeah. Like the rays understand that, field better than anybody. I will say Parker Messick 2.22 ERA and road games this year better than home games. So Cleveland has that going for them as well.
46:32 It's a very, very important game. I really thought the race had a huge lane to win game one. So I'm really shocked we're here. I'll tell you what. No, it's good for them. Brian Baker hasn't pitched since Wednesday. I need to see him for two tomorrow. I need to see two innings.
46:49 That's the only way you can rationalize this. And Freddie Peralta, do we get some Nick Martinez tomorrow? Let's find out together. Wow. Ben Williamson, future manager of the race. People are saying use code talking 2026, 10% off your next set of tickets at seat geek. We will be live streaming tomorrow's game, I believe, 8 p.m. tip off, right? Yeah.
47:14 Guards raise in Tampa. Messick Peralta will be live streaming from the Jam baseball channel. and then we will be live talking baseball. Thank you guys. Thanks Jolly Olive, ladies and gentlemen. Wow. Great thing. Wow.
47:31 Olive's in the chat. Shout out Rob Seraco, Dalton Feeley. I suck. Trev will be back. Are we halfway through the postseason? The chin out is a celebration is a link. The inside joke between P.D. Halpin and Chris Fink. where Chris Fink is hard on Petey Halpin and gives him a hard slap before every game.
47:58 Is Petey Halpin real? I don't think so. Did we ever clear that out? No. Did I hit the Jake sucks? I haven't have a home. No, no. No.
