Starting point is 00:00:25 We'd love to talk, business. President Trump was in North Carolina today and says he will sign an executive order to bring major changes to FEMA. I'm Virginia Allen and this is the Daily Signal's top news in 10 for Friday, January 24th. President Donald Trump took his first trip as the 47th president of the U.S. today. The president visited Western North Carolina to see the devastation that was caused last year there by Hurricane Helene and to talk with some of those victims that were affected by that hurricane. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived in North Carolina a little bit after 11 a.m. And they spent a few minutes talking to a crowd of about 50 people who'd gathered to greet them.
Starting point is 00:01:16 The president pledged to work with the governor of North Carolina to ensure that people who were affected by the hurricane have what they need in order to rebuild and recover. The president also said that the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, Michael Watley, would be very involved with recovery efforts in Western North Carolina. Carolina. It's an honor to meet the people behind me, and it's an honor to be with our congressional delegation and some of the other politicians in the area. And it's an honor to have Michael Watley at my side, because maybe we wouldn't be standing here as president if he was, and him and Laura, Laura Trump were unbelievable as the head of the Republican Party. So he happens to come from a place called North Carolina. So I said, Michael, fix it. So good luck. Good luck. And, we'll supply what you need. You know that. Okay? Thank you. Trump went on to answer a question about
Starting point is 00:02:11 local groups being involved in that recovery effort. The president said that he wants to see local groups in North Carolina do much of the work so that the recovery from that disaster can be done at a local level, in addition to having the assistance that is needed from the federal government. Trump was also very critical of FEMA during this trip and of Joe Biden's handling of the response to the devastation in North Carolina that was caused by Hurricane Helene. You'll remember that there were confirmed reports of FEMA workers being told to skip over homes that had Trump signs outside. Trump told the press while on the ground in North Carolina that he has plans to reform or even dismantle FEMA. I'll also be signed in executive order to begin the process of fundamentally
Starting point is 00:02:58 reforming and overhauling FEMA or maybe getting rid of FEMA. I think, frankly, FEMA is not good. Trump got back on Air Force One this afternoon after his visit in North Carolina and flew to California to survey the wildfire damage in Los Angeles County. If you're listening to this right when the show comes out around 5 o'clock, then Trump's likely just touching down in California or has just arrived. All eyes are going to be on the president to see what he says about Governor Gavin Newsom and the ways that California lawmakers have handled this disaster. While Trump was in North Carolina and then on to California today, Vice President J.D. Vance was here in Washington, D.C. at the March for Life. The Vice President delivered remarks to several thousand people who were gathered near the Washington Monument for the 52nd March for Life. Vance took a moment during his speech to highlight some of the pro-life actions that Trump has already taken in the first four days of his presidency.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Now, yesterday, President Trump issued a strong, endorsement of the Born Alive Abortion Act, ensuring that those babies who survived botched abortions enjoy the equal protection under law, which is the obligation of every citizen to enjoy in this country. Vance also spoke about the 23 pardons that Trump issued yesterday to pro-life activists who were charged and some even imprisoned under the FACE Act, also known as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. The vice act. The vice. Vice President told the crowd that the Trump administration stands with them. And I want to be clear that this administration stands by you. We stand with you. And most
Starting point is 00:04:46 importantly, we stand with the most vulnerable and the basic principle that people exercising the right to protest on behalf of the most vulnerable should never have the government go after them ever again. I spoke to a number of people at the march who had traveled. from all over the United States in order to attend the March for Life. Lily and Roger Martinez traveled to the March for Life from College Station, Texas. It was their first time coming to the march in Washington, D.C., after participating in the Texas State March for life for several years. Yes, and the dignity of the human, obviously, from birth to death, we support that.
Starting point is 00:05:26 We're Catholic, and we just love, you know, just what the church says about life, what God says about life, and we're commanded to do all he says, so we're here supporting the unborn. To hear more from marchers like Roger Martinez, you can check out the Daily Signal's full coverage of the march at our website,dailysignal.com, or across our social media platforms. Trump is making good on his promise to deport illegal aliens. Today, military airplanes began deporting illegal aliens out of the United States. This morning, White House. House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt wrote on X, deportation flights have begun. That was written above two photos of lines of illegal alien men who are preparing to board a military aircraft.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Just last night, U.S. immigration and enforcement announced that they had carried out 538 arrests of illegal aliens. The Trump administration is prioritizing arrests of criminal illegal aliens and those who pose a critical threat to the United States. The White House reports. that among those that ICE has already arrested was a suspected terrorist for members of the Trend Day Aragua gang and several illegals convicted of sex crimes against minors. Trump is surging 1,500 active duty troops to the southern border. They are joining up with about 2,500 National Guard members and helicopter crews that are already working at the southern border in support of customs and border protection.
Starting point is 00:06:58 That's according to reporting from Stars and Stripes. There are reports that the number of troops that may be deployed to the border could reach up to 10,000. Those were our headlines for today. We'll get to our news flash right after this message from Heritage Action for America. Four years of constant crisis. Wide open borders, deadly sentinel, violent crime, crippling inflation, war in Israel, war in Ukraine, China rising. There's no time to waste on Washington games. must fight. Americans elected President Donald J. Trump to stand in the breach. He's already hard at work. If we're going to fight and win, we've got work to do. Confirm Trump's cabinet now. President Trump has removed the security detail for Dr. Anthony Fauci. Trump was asked about his
Starting point is 00:07:51 decision today, and he defended his action. Trump said, when you work for government, at some point, your security detail comes off. And you know, you can't. can't have them forever, so I think it's very standard. Trump also said Fauci and others, who he has ended, a security detail for, could hire their own security since they've made a lot of money. Four female hostages are slated to be released from Gaza back to Israel tomorrow. Those on the list to be released include Karina Arreve, Daniela Gilboa, Nama Levy, and Levy Albag. All four women were serving in the IDF on October 7th, 2023 when Hamas attacked. The release
Starting point is 00:08:35 comes during a six-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. During that time, 33 hostages are expected to be released. Three were released about a week ago and the remaining 26 after tomorrow are expected to be released in the coming weeks. Some big retailers are rolling back their DEI initiative. First, Walmart announced it was ditching DEI, and now Target says that it is also going to roll back its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. But Costco is holding on. Costco shareholders have voted against a proposal that would look into the risk posed by its DEI initiatives. With that, we're going to leave it right there for today's episode.
