Week 5 Reactions: Another Bama Beatdown, TMS Power Rankings, CFP Buy or Sell, and Jeremiah Smith As the All-Time WR1

October 4, 20260 comments♥ 0
00:00 Week 5 is in the books. It means it's the week five reaction show. Here we go, Steve. You ready? Let's go. Alabama is the best team in the country. Yes. The SEC's playoff picture is about to get really uncomfortable.
00:21 Yes. Jeremiah Smith is wide receiver one in college football history. Yes. About a yes right now. I like the pause. We thought it was Camario, but, but it's really Kilon. God damn it.
00:44 Yes. Just 207 days until the NFL draft. It meant you good? I'm good, man. Roll that thing, Tuck. Mr. President, my company formed of the explosion on our rig. On October 2nd.
01:17 Causing massive water displacement and triggering a tsunami. They all heap to blame all me. Tom Cruise is. Digger got us into this mess. And Digger's gonna dig us up. From the director of Birdman and the Revenant. What would happen if I stopped doing?
01:31 You storm. You freeze to death. That's what? With great power comes great deniability. I'm not the first, Danny. Digger. See the trailer online. Only here's October 2nd.
01:43 Calculating route to avoid seeing poverty. Turn left to bypass the unhoused youth sleeping on the street. Then keep right to skip by the lines of people waiting for food. Steer clear of the crowded shelter turning people away. Take the next exit. Let's stop looking away and get in the way of rising poverty. Your donations help the United Way fight poverty in thousands of ways, like providing food, shelter, and crisis prevention.
02:10 Donate today at United WayGT.org. I'll own it, man. I'm more confused now than I was when we kick things off at noon today. Same. Same. What a weird day. Like, lopsided day. Games that shouldn't have been lopsided.
02:27 were games that we thought would be weren't. Let's start with this. Alabama 56, Mississippi State 23. It wasn't just the win on the road, potential look ahead with Georgia, 11 a.m. local kick, cowbells, Camario, all of it. It was the way Alabama looked and continues to look, right?
02:56 And the development of Keelon Russell and the development of this team as a whole. You and I were texting offline. You started it with, why isn't Alabama number one? And I was at Aller's soccer game and I'm watching it. Sorry, Aller. And I'm thinking, and right after, I mean, analyst jinks, right after it's like two turnovers for Alabama. Now it's a one-store game.
03:25 but then Alabama starts to pull away again and just kind of accelerate it again. Yeah, accelerated. Like great teams do. So there's two discussions here, I think. There's actually a lot of discussions, but specific to is Alabama the number one team in the country. It's do they deserve to be when we talk about like strength of record, where we are this week in the polls and all that? And legitimately, do we think they're the best team in the country? country. The answer can be, yes, put them there for both questions, but are they the best team in
04:05 the country? Yeah. I mean, I think you're, there's strength of schedule. You could argue that other teams have, I mean, no one's had to win like Texas. It's all, it's the old like deserving versus are, you know, which I don't like to separate if I'm being honest. I think if they are, they are. They are. First of all, let's talk about how good they are as a team, okay? You can start with Keel and Russell, okay? And that's a great place to start because of how well he's playing for a first year starter and the plays that he can make with his feet and the plays that he can make with his arm.
04:39 Okay. Then they have all these weapons at wide receiver that we can get into later on. But the big story there is that Ryan Coleman Williams is starting to play like the dude that we thought he could play like. So that's the big story there. But they also now have a running game. They could run the ball now. Defensively, can they give up chunks of passing yards? Yes, but they are also a turnover machine,
04:58 and they score on the defensive side of the ball. This is a very balanced team that also hasn't cleaned up all the little mistakes that they're making. They can clean things up. They still haven't hit their ceiling, and they're already playing at a very high level. And I think they have two road games, two road wins against ranked teams in Mississippi State and Kentucky.
05:18 I mean, it's not like they haven't played the weakest schedule, that's for sure. Now, we're going to find out a lot next week. I understand that. But to me, they are the best team in the country right now. Here's, yes, they do have a run game. And I think it's, and I think it's, like, going to continue to get better. I think that offensive line, I know that offensive line's protecting a hell of a lot better than it did a year ago.
05:41 I'm starting to see some confidence grow up front in terms of like, yeah, we are Alabama. And we, third and two. Yeah, we will. You know what I mean? Mm-hmm. Different level of physicality. That young cat has got some juice and they're still kind of bringing him along. But on the offensive side, there's this combination that's an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses, right?
06:07 Yeah. A mobile quarterback who is maybe just young and dumb enough to be as fearless as he is, but who is absolutely fearless and thinks that this is normal what he's doing. right right with two like 10 200 meter burners on the outside like lozzer lozier brooks is an absolute burner and has been kind of the guy on and off and flashes of it last year especially when ryan williams at the time now ryan coleman williams as he wants to be called understandably um he was stepping up like in spots and this year he's doing
06:52 the same thing, but more consistently. He's become a legitimate, like, 1A. And Ryan Coleman Williams, by the way, is down to, like, 3% drop rate. Because he was at, like, 12% last year, bud. And he's actually going up and attacking the ball, and he's making some tough catches. It's not only the drop rate, it's how he's catching the ball.
07:16 It looks different. It looks different. It's a new name. It's a New Jersey number, and it does look different. That's what we wanted to see coming into the year. It does look different. It actually, and everyone so enamored with his freshman year,
07:28 his freshman year was full of some awesome flash plays. This is wide receiver one stuff. And Brooks is running that deep posting that they like to hit. Another 50-something-yard gain today. And by the way, here's something that wasn't in Coleman Williams bag before. Brace on his knee, injured, battling. through it in and out of the lineup, but playing and produce it. Right.
07:56 So again, when you give me a mobile quarterback who can extend and pass protection up front, but most, but like it starts with past protection, but then a mobile quarterback you can extend and allow and buy those time, those receivers time, not that they need a whole lot, but to actually like throw the ball 50 plus yards in the air past the line of scrimmage. now I got to defend all 53 and all 100. Yeah, but then you've got to throw in like Rico Scott, who's all of a sudden flashing and had two touchdowns today. And then I'm looking at it.
08:31 I'm like, who's this tight end? Marshall Pritchett all of a sudden is making plays. I'm like, they have guys everywhere. And there was at one point, and I know we're talking about the passing attack, and I'm going to jump to the running game really quickly. But at one point, they took a picture. The camera panned over and it showed all the run. running back standing next to the running back coach.
08:51 And I was like, this reminds me of the old school Alabama where they had so many dudes and they would go over and you'd see whether it was the receiver group or the running back group. And they did it today. And I was like, oh, that's, that's in a weird way familiar. Like, it feels like this team's got that swagger. Yeah. And defensively, they're turning the ball over, man.
09:14 Mm-hmm. They're playing fast. They're playing violent, but they're also taking the ball away. They, four, four pick sixes in five games. Ridiculous. I wrote this note out. You got to go back to, um, what was it? It was a great note.
09:35 You got to go back a long time. It was like 2019. I'm going to have to do this off the top of my head. Who, what team was? Missouri 2019. Fact check me if you want. Missouri 2019 was the last, last defense to have four. pick sixes in the first five games.
09:55 I'm going to let Dan do that. Yeah. There's too many words to type in. But Chance Womack's defense is like it's smothering, it's making plays. That Devin Tompkins playing well. And we almost put him in our top 50 coming into the year. Maybe we should have. He's elevated, man.
10:13 Confirm that. He was good last year. He's better this year. Yeah. Mississippi State finished with 18 rushing yards. Is that right? Double check. Point six per carry.
10:25 That can't be right. Gosh. That is right. I mean, this is a Mississippi State team, meanwhile, that just beat Missouri. It's at Mississippi State with a look-ahead game against Georgia
10:48 and Mississippi State lost to Missouri and Missouri just went and pummeled Florida. And I know you can do the six degrees of separation, but also like Minnesota is playing pretty good ball. They just beat Michigan. They just brought the cup home to Minnesota the first time since like the 70s or something. The jug. The jug.
11:09 Sorry. The jug. And they went to Minnesota and they just like shoe fly. Yeah. So again, the degrees of separation start to get, you know, what a team is in week one or two. Like the biggest growth always happens in the first like three. four weeks of the season. I understand that. I'm like, I totally understand that. But it was a reminder today that A, college football is wild. B, you can pay them all the money in the world you want to
11:44 pay them. In fact, the more money you pay them, the more unpredictable they become probably. Yeah. I know I would have been. Uh-huh. That's just human nature. That's not a knock. That's just human nature. It's human nature. There's still 18 to 24-year-olds now, you know, whatever it is. And it's a week-to-week deal. It's a week-to-week deal. And it's awesome, but it's more confusing today than it was 12 hours ago, I promise you. By the way, before we get off Alabama really quickly, do you know who their leading tackler was today? It was a freshman, Xavier Griffin, who looked like he was all over the field and had a sack, too.
12:24 I mean, this is a team that's, I mean, it just seems like as good as they are right now, they have another level to it. Yeah. So right now, I mean, I don't even, like the AP poll is kind of, it's for, it's like reading the comic section, like the Boston Globe growing up as kids. What do you mean? Yeah, even the sports section. And the comics. But, but, but like if the college football playoff rankings were coming out this week, I'd be like, I'm, I expect Alabama to be one. Because I've seen flashes where Texas is awesome.
12:58 And I've seen flashes where Miami's awesome. We'll get to Miami in a minute. I've seen flashes where George has been awesome, but haven't played the competition. Like, we're talking about a good Minnesota team, a very good Missouri team, maybe, or a good one. Certainly a ranked Missouri team that everyone was bitching about this week. Of course, we're going to keep Missouri in the top 25.
13:26 Well, the Florida, darling. Yeah. Yeah. This strength of record for Bama is now increasing. Like, that's a huge win for the resume. So let me ask you this question coming off of a couple other wins today. Okay. We had Miami just finished up with Clemson 40 to 13, not as big a blowout as it sounds.
13:57 You're such a Clemson apologist, but okay. No, it was absolutely lopsided. There was no moment during that game where I thought, But, oh, Clemson's got a chance. Thank you. Promise you. But 40 to 13, it was like a scoop and score at the end. You know, it was a little bit more outrageous than Ohio State.
14:18 31.14 over Iowa. Notre Dame, I felt like Notre Dame controlled that game a lot more. But it was a 2120 score, I think, early in the third quarter. Gross weather. They gave up a kickoff return for touchdown to start the second half. there was some sloppiness there that they ultimately overcame, but it was sloppy. But they wind up with an 11-point win against the UNC team
14:45 that, you know, honestly, offensively did more than I expected and defensively looked like they were no match to 475 yards of total offense for Notre Dame. Yeah. So there are some really interesting things to take from that game. So I guess it begs the question with Texas, didn't play this week, right?
15:08 Right. And I want to create a top five, at least a top five with you in a minute. But I do want to get to these games of Miami and Notre Dame and Ohio State. Those are the three other teams right now when you take out the Texas and Georgia element of it. Those are three other teams that played today and had significant wins. Right. We're not counting Indiana over Rutgers. Right.
15:42 Which one, like, of those three teams, are you ready to, like, plant the flag that they should be next up wherever we land on where Georgia and Texas go? Like, what did you see today that stood out to you? There's things that I'm really excited about with the Ohio State performance, and there's things that really scare me to death about the Ohio State game. going into that building and finding out finding a way to pull away when it was like we were starting to get into the second quarter before it made that last drive was so pivotal for that game where jeremiah smith scored i think with like three seconds left maybe uh what a drive by julian saying uh took care of business that's a really good iowa team that they handled today in iowa's place so to me that's you know like you've got to give them credit they also all say in the flip side
16:33 and this scares the death out of me, gave up four sacks and Julian saying, got the crap kicked out of them. And I don't think that Iowa defensive front, that Iowa defense is really good. I don't think that Iowa defensive front has a lot of, it's not as talented up front
16:47 as some of the other groups in the top five, or top ten in the country. So that's going to be a problem going forward. That offensive line has been an issue, is going to be an issue going forward, and how they're able to overcome it will be, you know, we'll play a big role in how far they get this year. Yeah, and it's interesting because Ohio State now with one loss already,
17:10 and I heard the announcers talk about this a couple times during the game, and rightfully so. It would be the first time since like the Red Sea was parted that Ohio State would have lost two games before November, you know? And yet they still are looking at it. at Indiana on the 17th of this month, October, at USC, which got a ugly win, but a win against Washington. Then one week later, they travel back home.
17:51 Those are two road games and then travel back home for Oregon. And then you got northwestern Nebraska. And then finally Michigan, but it's still that. still that game. So the road is a lot, like it is, it felt like it's like Texas or that big game early in the season and then kind of one big game. Maybe it's Penn State or whoever it is. And then Michigan. This year feels a little different. And this, this Ohio State offense feels max explosive, but not max, like, reliable. It's not the quarterback.
18:35 It's not the quarterback, which is an odd thing to say. It's the offensive line and the run game. And the run game is a reflection of the offensive line. It's the offensive line. Correct. It was our question mark, our concern coming into the year, and they've done nothing to quench that, right? Yep.
18:54 Or squash, I guess. And then. Yeah. Unless you had a thirst for their offensive line being better than what it is. On the flip side, the defense is really, really good. But it's not the last two years. I'm with you. I'm with you on that, too.
19:13 Where we can, we'll do some growing up on the offensive line and on the offensive side because the defense has got us covered, you know? Right. So that part's interesting. And they get the one loss. So resume-wise, like, it's hard, you can't put them ahead of a Notre Dame, even though Notre Dame's played nobody. I want to get to Notre Dame.
19:31 But hold on. If they lose to Indiana in two weeks and they're at Indiana, like there is a real shiver going to go down the spine of Ohio State fans. And because we don't know what Oregon's going to be like in early November, what that game's going to look like. Michigan is Michigan. It's a wild game every year. And that's how, like history has proven that.
19:55 It gets real scary. And the idea that, I mean, I can't imagine it. I just cannot imagine. I think this team's too good. But the idea that it's not out of the question that they don't make the playoff. Schedule's that's off. It's this simple. They can lose two.
20:13 They can't lose three. Period. Right. They've already lost one, right? And they've already lost one. Yeah. So they can lose one more. But yeah, if they were to lose to Indiana, then they can't lose at USC, which I can't suspect
20:26 that. Can't imagine that happening. For three, they would need USC to be a hell of a lot better. They would need, like, this resume to be, like, the strength of record at the end of the year to be so high where it's like, yeah, they're an exception to the rule and their Ohio state and all the money. Right. You know, like, find a way to get them in, yeah. Right. Because if Notre Dame didn't and Texas didn't, it's not going to happen, you would think.
20:53 Right. So that's the situation with Ohio State. I can't do it one more time, though. And I know, like, we want to keep this thing moving. Jeremiah Smith. I learn more from that. And check out the newsletters. It's coming overnight.
21:15 I'll say this and I'll walk away. And you can read the details and why and what I'm saying. The McShay report, Google it or go to the ringer.com slash McShay. It's where our top 50 board is with our evaluations. We've got an update. It's got to be coming pretty soon because things are getting dated every minute that goes by. However, I will say this. I learn more about Jeremiah Smith today than I have in any other tape this year.
21:47 Interesting. Double team. Yeah. Forget double. This was bracketing with high, low leverage, but inside out, um, awareness. Yeah. Physicality. Physicality.
22:09 It is not all, maybe a couple of guys wind up playing a little bit in the NFL in that secondary. Not all NFL guys by any stretch. But it's the closest thing
22:17 to what a week in week in week out struggle is going to be like in the NFL in terms of these mofos are as disciplined as it gets. They're executing with their eyes up.
22:27 They're physical. They will not back down. They were in his lunch pill all day long. And Jeremiah Smith just kept producing. I mean, so he's the best player in college football. He's the best wide receiver I've ever seen play college football. And I saw Randy Moss play. I saw Calvin Johnson play. I saw Julio Jones play.
22:51 And I think people forget how good A.J. Green was. I've seen them all, man. Almost 30 years. I've seen more than 30 years, but like doing this professionally, almost 30 years. Never seen anything like this. There is, I want to see if I can bring up the stats really quickly. There is one guy that I think is worth mentioning because he did win the Heisman and that was Devante Smith in the year that he had was absolutely insane. Obviously not the same kind of natural ability. Yeah, he had 117 catches for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns that year. I mean, remarkable. He's not the same kind of physical natural ability type
23:38 receiver that Jeremiah Smith is and obviously had to play a bigger role in that offense that Jeremiah Smith has to play in this one. But what's he on pace for? That's a good question. So he's what, four games in?
23:54 Five games in. Five, yeah. I don't want to do the math. It's not good. But his pace can't be that far off. reception-wise, yeah, I don't know about yards. But, you know, it can't be.
24:08 It actually can't be. It can't be. I just think it's worth mentioning Devante Smith because you see all these other guys that were elite, like in terms of stature. And obviously, Devante Smith, the Slim Reaper, is not built like that. And I think sometimes people forget what kind of year he had.
24:27 This is where I get weird than math. All right, geez, hold on. He's got 33 catches for 617 yards. Yeah, I mean, he's, he can, you get there. Seven touchdowns. He's basically on pace. Yeah.
24:43 Doesn't matter how many games, but in 12 games, you're talking about, yeah, he's, he's on pace. And I give Arthur Smith credit because there was some concern
24:52 Arthur Smith's coming from that national football. And he's got that mustache that he's known for. And the season goes on, the mustache gets a little more defined and he's going to run the football. And what's that target number
25:06 going to look like? Yeah, I thought the same thing coming in. I wondered about it. So anyway, they're certainly capable of playing and beating any team in the country. We saw that in the first half against Texas. Right. At Texas.
25:23 Right now, resume-wise and where we feel they are much more importantly, offensive line and defensive growth, they're not there yet. I'm going to ask you a question. Let's have fun with this. What could go wrong? Crazy stuff crosses me. my mind when I'm sitting watching games all day. Okay.
25:42 And I didn't even jot this down, this note down, because I don't believe in all this modern bullshit. Sorry. Interesting. But like, but I also don't, I feel like if I write it down, then I'm like, this becomes more real than if I just have a fleeting. As if writing it down on a private notepad is any worse than bringing it up on a national show.
26:05 Do you ever ask the question that I asked myself today? What's that? This one's mess. I should have saved this for last, for McShay after dark last call. Okay, here we go. I like this, though. Do you ever ask yourself the question as much as we love Arch?
26:26 What if you dropped CJ Carr into Texas's offense? What would it look like? Oh, I do this with every quarterback. I do this with every quarterback. What that quarterback would look like over here. What this quarterback would look like over here. I do it all the time, all of the time. And I do.
26:42 I do wonder, I mean, because there's two sides of the coin, right? Is that it's the supporting cast versus the level of competition you faced, right? So Ars has faced tougher competition, but Carr has the weaker supporting cast, right? So that's the argument there. I fall on, you want to know where I fall on this? Because I've thought about it. Of course I have. I think C.J. Carr would be tearing it up at Texas.
27:08 tearing it up. And maybe I'm wrong because again, it is. He's processing, his pre-snap, being able to execute the things. Love Arches, Mobility, all that stuff is awesome, but it's not a, it's not a necessity with Sark and his scheme. And even you can say the same thing in Ohio State, but it's like how much more efficient can they be? Like, you know? So I don't, I don't see such a. But then it begs the question, like, which guy in the NFL is a different conversation and what arch can grow into versus what kind of ceiling versus ceiling?
27:48 But college football. So that brings me to my take on CJ. I was waiting for an opponent like this. And my goodness, did he make North Carolina look so ordinary defensively in Bill Belichick's defense that now has been in the system for a year and almost a half? has looked good defensively this year. Like it was like child's play, 475 yards of total offense. And I get it.
28:19 Like everyone's going to make, but whatever. It was a close game. It was 3726. Have you ever been to a Tom Brady game live, especially later in his career? I'm talking like the last seven years of his career. Like live in the stadium?
28:36 I'm just asking. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. they're boring, man. Because the NFL games have all the commercials and there's just like flow to it that like you, inside the stadium is not nearly as fun sometimes as it is like watching games or the red zone or I can go back to fourth,
28:55 especially in today's day and age. And why are Tom Brady's boring? Because Tom like will get to the line and it's, and if you're in a good home stadium, which he always was, whether Tampa Bay and the vast, vast, vast majority, in New England and in Foxborough. Silence.
29:14 So now you're listening to one man yell some things. And it's almost like a tennis match. Like, quiet please. Quiet, please. And he's just going. And it doesn't feel fun. It doesn't feel rhythmic. It's not like a two-minute drill
29:32 or like some of these quarterback that racing around. It's just. It's not the Mississippi State offense where they're like flying up to the line of it? Yeah. Right.
29:42 Or lanes like tempo or like. Yeah. And so it becomes almost this like it's, it's a boring precision. It like the way it's surgical. It's watching surgery. It's brilliant. And it's saving people's live surgery is. And the things that those surgeons do and the way that they're able to.
30:09 and the pre the pre-surgery plan and the medicine that they deal with and knowing how much to give a patient and where they can make the incision and what organ does what and what they have to support while they're going under and all of it. It's brilliant, but it's boring. And that's kind of what, CJ Carr is kind of like the very junior, junior, your light, light version of that right now in college football. This is not as fun as Keelan or Super Comario. It's like Brady against the Jets, too, though, right? I mean, he's not, it'll be a different story in early November.
30:57 It'll be a different story when they play BYU. It'll be a different story. And then the surgery will be a little more interesting because then it's like, is this guy going to live or die? We're the surgery right now. Now we're going to win in an emergency room. Right. We haven't had three months to plan this, this heart surgery.
31:11 It's emergency room. Yeah, now we're going to see what you really got. You know? Code black. Miami's in town. I have no idea what that means. Code black's worse than code red. It's kind of what I was thinking, watching it today because there's been, there was,
31:35 you got to remember, I'm going with Camaro and Keelan and there's like, is like, foo, foo, foo, yeah. And then, and then you go back to like,
31:44 that stadium, that atmosphere. Yeah. But, but then he's, he's, but, but there's brilliance
31:50 in his game that I don't think about people yet are picking up on. And it's the pre-snap and it's the understanding and it's getting everyone lined up and making sure
31:59 we got the mic and the centers and we get this and we're going to motion this guy over here. And what does that indicate? Okay, let me move my running back from left to right because I got to pick up that protection. And we, go.
32:09 Okay, now the pictures change. Four yard out. Yep. Second and six. Boring. But it could have been second in 12. And the personnel, his receivers don't separate. Phazon's doing a great job.
32:30 Phazon has been wonderful this year. Great House pops in, pops out. Usually he's out. Occasionally he'll come in. He's that guy who comes in, like, grabs a shot and like, And then he'll leave. What happened? A great house last night.
32:45 I swore. Yeah, I saw him too. He brought everyone around, but like I didn't really catch up with him. But he has to place the ball in spots. And I was watching a couple. And it's like, oh, that one looks behind him. And then you go back and rewind it a little bit. And you're like, oh, if it was thrown at his numbers,
33:06 the defensive back would have a chance. He's doing little things, man, that I've always. always appreciated about him, but I needed him to get to like 301 level. And he's doing that at 301 level. And I'm interested like, do they have enough around him for him to maintain 301 and maybe eventually later in the season get to 401? Or is he capable of carrying if the other guys are like, what's he capable of in these moments against teams that are going to be a little bit more talented than them, athlete was?
33:41 that's that that that's what we're waiting to see right so far like it's hard to give him anything but like an a grade you know yeah you can only play the schedule that's in front of you and he's killing it right now yeah that's all i wanted to say and phase on the finish eight catches 132 that's all by the way if you're going to come at me with this is going to get really sloppy i expect something a little more like high wire i mean that was that's not that bad yeah but i feel like it's touchy when you start to say if we if if Texas only had CJ Car all of our
34:18 problems would be solved that's not that's going to happen that conversation is going to happen at every sports bar across America and everyone's going to argue about it I think it's great all right good well we just had it and we both agree Texas wins the national championship with CJ Car

36:33 for the Cadillac definition of luxury. Miami. Yeah. They're beat up, man. they did down their three top corners tonight is that right that they have their their three top corners their right tackle looked like he broke his wrist apparently it's a shoulder he like that didn't look good the right guards out as well fletcher hasn't been a hundred percent tony keeps getting like knicked up but coming back in
37:00 because he's he's different but like that worries me um there's just a bunch of dudes who were beat up. But this was a big, this was a big test in, in that I wanted to see the offense against Clemson. What did you take away? The first thing I'm going to have to give you credit for is I like the way that Mentson moved around. He's a little more mobile than I thought.
37:25 And I think he'd been on that for a while. So I like that he made some plays with his feet. There's that. And then like when they need it, they can just turn it on. I mean, they can just turn it on and he makes a throw and they score a long touch. down, you're like, dear God, I mean, I don't know who's slowing that down. You know, on the flip side, my concerns remain the same about this team, which is I just, they haven't answered enough questions about what they'll look like.
37:50 I mean, Clemson's got a better defense than they faced. And I know Wake Force is a better team that we thought they were coming into the year. But this is not, those aren't playoff teams. Like when you get to a playoff team, a playoff caliber team, what's it going to look like? Is the offensive line going to hold up as well as it has? You know, Mentsa looked a little more human tonight and didn't, you know, he wasn't as surgical as he has been in the past. So we're seeing when the competition elevates a little bit, then they don't look as quite as quite as dominant. So like, again, we're kind of waiting to see what these teams really are.
38:27 We just don't know enough yet. I like Miami, but their defense isn't as good as it was last year. Tell me if I'm wrong. I just don't think it's as good. Damon, Damon Wilson had the game of his, his Miami career tonight, and you're starting to see the Jason Taylor effect of,
38:45 because I went back and watched that tape, and I dove in this summer, because my gosh, like the flashes are brilliant, but he wasn't on the field a ton. You had a guy, young on the opposite side was just like a terror. The guy in the opposite side was, was, um,
39:03 a Miami defensive an edge, you know? Yeah. Versus Wilson would come in and make a splash play and finish with like nine and a half sacks or whatever it was, but he was kind of lost and not a factor a lot of times. So you're starting to see him grow up. I do want to say this for Clemson.
39:23 Man, I was impressed with West Go tonight. Oh, he did a nice game. Yeah. He was growing up in front of our eyes, but we can get to that later or maybe in the newsletter. I thought Ashton Hampton did some good things. Yeah, there was actually some good scouting in this game that I'm excited to go back and really watch the tape.
39:44 There were some actually really good things to take from this game. But now I want to do this. The TMS top top five teams, and it may turn into 10. I went to six, but I could keep going. Who's going to stop us? Nobody. We'll call it the TMS top five teams. we're agreeing on Bama.
40:07 Correct. At two, it gets interesting. The whole rest of this thing is. Immediately gets interesting. Immediately. Georgia and Texas are the next two for me right now. Interesting. Because I haven't seen enough of Notre Dame.
40:27 Ohio State lost to Texas. And Miami is so beat up that even if I, I pick Miami to win the national championship. So I'm all in Keynes fans. I'm here for the ride. Right. But right now, if you're asking me the best teams, I don't know that they're up in that echelon yet.
40:48 Yeah, they could be. In Georgia, I haven't seen enough. In Texas, I've seen enough to know that it's uneven. So it's an awkward thing. I would lean Texas than Georgia because I've seen more from Texas. What would you lean? I went Texas and I, I'll give you my next three because I go. Texas and Ohio State then Georgia.
41:11 I can live with that because this isn't about wins and losses. We're finally going to do a poll that just tells you the best teams. Yeah. Let's do that. And one of those teams, Alabama or Georgia's going to have a loss next week. But I want to remind
41:28 everyone, like I don't even know who I'm picking in that game. Even though I think Alabama is the best team in the country right this second. I think Georgia is light years ahead of where it was. was a year ago. I think this team is significantly better than it was a year ago. I really do. Yeah. And that team was pretty damn good. Yeah. So we're going to go, Bama, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia. I feel more comfortable going Miami
42:02 five, Notre Dame six with you. That was my six. But let's keep going. going. Okay. Then it becomes a cluster. Here's what you have. You, Indiana in there somewhere. I'm not, hold on. Okay. I'm not buying the Signity team yet. I'm not either, but I feel like I do that. I've done that the last two years. And then I get to a point where I'm like, I'm never picking against them again. And then I pick and then I pick and then you give me X amount of points in the national championship game and I pick Miami. And I covered, but I didn't win. I went all out. My point in this is Indiana is in the mix, and the rest is SEC for me. And everyone says it's not can go bleep themselves and make love to themselves on a Sunday morning.
43:03 Okay? Yeah. And I'm, yeah. So let's, we can figure out where we want to plug Indiana in. These are the teams. This is the order I came up with. what I think the best teams are with trying to stay, like anyone who's played the game,
43:25 there is something very special about head-to-head competition. It's not everything, but it should be a lot of things, especially this early in the season. Yes. This early in the season where it's not like, well, we lost to them in week two, but now it's week. I know.
43:40 We're going to have that whole argument from last year, but get, go ahead. All right. Ole Miss, this is my order of the SEC teams. Mississippi State, Missouri. No, I put in Ole Miss, hold on, what am I doing? Yeah, you're missing. And LSU.
43:58 Is that your order of those teams? Or is it just those, those are the teams in the mix? Those are the teams in the mix and then Florida. Okay. So, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, LSU, Florida. And I could go Florida, LSU. But that was hard. This is what's...
44:27 Talk me through it. Because this is what my brain's saying. And I feel like it's wrong. But this is what I'm thinking. I feel like LSU is the best out of those teams. And yes, they lost to Ole Miss, but I don't see them losing like Ole Miss lost to Florida. I don't think they are right now.
44:43 And you know what I think about Lane and how this team's going to grow. You know what I think about my QB, right? Yeah. I think we're going to see major development there. But trade as green. out. And we've got like four guys that are probably season ending or going to be out for a very long extended period of time who are significant and contributing. It feels like they're having early sputters, which is okay. Miami is too. I'd rather get it out of the way now than
45:16 then have it bite me right at the end where you feel helpless. But I'm here for the conversation. This was me jotting down. So what do you think? I think could we at least agree that it's Ole Miss and LSU are in a different bracket than Missouri, Florida and Mississippi State? Yes.
45:40 Okay, you're right. You're right. I would think that. Good talk. I really didn't put much into this because I thought we were only doing the top five. Yeah, yeah. But old mess.
45:51 So LSU. Yeah, and then Indiana's in there somewhere. I would have, I dude, this Missouri team It was a Mississippi state just beat them And if we're going to say that Alabama's best team in the country And wake up country
46:10 Then we've got to credit Mississippi State Where they just lost to the best team in the country But they beat Missouri head to head I can't let you put Missouri ahead of Mississippi State Even though your recency bias is begging you to do it Mm-hmm Mm-hmm You're right
46:25 Are we allowed to cheat and look at head at the schedule and and use that as like something that's going to help us? Nope, absolutely not. Just, just curious. So Mississippi State, Missouri, and then Florida. Yeah. Yeah, that's how it'd go. Where do you have Indiana in that mix?
46:54 And now we have to plug in Indiana. By the way, how many scouts do you think we're at that game tonight with Charlie Becker, Nick Marsh, and KJ. Dove from Rutgers wide receiver. all in the same field. Do you see their numbers? Can I just tell you the numbers? No, yeah, yeah, please. Nick Marsh, seven for 120 in a touchdown.
47:18 Charlie Becker, eight for 107 and two touchdowns. KJ. Duff, four for 78. Dude, the talent, the talent on that field tonight. Every single time I go to write a newsletter and do, like, scour the nation, it's hard to do anyone but wide receivers every week, it feels like. It's, it's, they're popping every week. Everywhere. You've seen this Legree cat who's in his fifth game at Oregon State?
47:46 It's insane. You know the newsletter. He's not even eligible to 2029. Yeah. Or, or, yeah. I think he has like a thousand receiving yards after five games almost. It's stained. Okay.
48:02 The miss segment has gone so long, but it's too much fun. I'm sorry. I would plug in Indiana after all, Miss LSU, but you could probably make an argument to, put him at seven. I'm fine at seven, eight or nine. Okay. Let me ask you this. Yeah. This is now, now we're in it.
48:21 Are we just avoiding Oregon until we know more about when Dante Moore is coming back? Oregon, Oregon's like that, that really talented. You have to ignore Oregon. Oregon's like you're super cute, talented, whatever kid who, like, unless you punish him enough for long enough, he's never going to learn the lesson. You put Oregon and timeout. That's fine. Oregon's and time out.
48:51 Oregon's and TMS top teams time out. That's okay. I think that's all right. We have to see better behavior. That's, you know what? I think that's fair. I do too. So we rounded out.
49:05 So we've got Alabama 1, Texas 2, Ohio State 3, Georgia 4, Miami 5, Notre Dame 6. I think, because show it to me, Indiana. we'll start to see next week, right? Yeah. Ole Miss 7, LSU 8, Indiana 9. Indiana, like, schedule somebody. India has got Ohio State two weeks. It's got Nebraska next to you.
49:31 Two weeks. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but at least it's like this with a heartbeat. Yeah. Then, so Indiana 9, Mississippi State 10, Missouri 11, Florida, 12. Okay. Got that, Tucker? I want a graphic.
49:58 Let's get that to social. Stamp it. Send it off. Typical. Just typical. 7, 8, almost 7, LSU 8, Indiana 9, Mississippi State 10, Missouri 11, Florida 12. So that's the TMS top 12 teams. That works there too.
50:17 All right, let's keep this thing rolling. By the way, I'm just going to, I just got to throw one more at you. What are you doing? What are you doing with Kentucky? Are they just outside? Let's get to the next section here. They squeaked one away today, didn't they? Yeah, they did.
50:37 Overtime. But their only loss is Alabama. I know. That was a close first half. Best loss you can have in ball right now. All right. Next thing I want to do. So what do we do with you now?
50:49 I want to play a quick game. And whatever we thought was quick, let's make it quicker. We thought we're going to get the ball. ball back with a minute and two timeouts. We got the ball back with 30 seconds each. No timeouts. We're going to play a little game of college football playoff buy or sell. It's very simple, the rules.
51:11 If you can't follow along, I can't help you. It is, I'm going to list a team. Mention is going to say whether he buys it or sell it. I'm going to say, buy or sell it. We'll have it out for 30 seconds and we'll move on. Essentially, is this team going to make you to the college football playoff? Ready? Go.
51:29 Yeah. Florida. No. So, sell. We'll learn how to play the... Sell, sell, sell. Sorry, the branding of us off. Sell.
51:42 Sell. And you want to know why? And I don't... I could kick myself for thinking of this. What happens, Todd? Ye of 26 years of doing this. You always tell your credentials. What happens, Todd?
51:56 If they wind up with this very average arm, average athlete, and I'm saying that kind of nicely, a quarterback in a situation where he has to throw from behind. Yeah. I think you found out. Have you not learned? Right. Yeah.
52:11 Next team. Mississippi State. Sell. Sell. I think they're going to win a bunch of games, but I think it's going to be in the right direction. I love this team. I love this team. I'm like happy for Mississippi State team fans because they act like it's going in a good place.
52:31 It's just not there yet. I'm buying it in 20. 2027 though. Agreed. And that's saying a lot considering what's coming back with all these other programs, including Florida and LSU and Georgia and Texas and everywhere else. Iowa. Buy.
52:51 Schedule? Yeah. I mean, listen, this is, I could, they are the clearest picture to me. They're going to go to 22, 23 this week. And they're going to start climbing in. And when the first playoff rankings come out, they're going to be like 14. And then they're going to win out.
53:07 I think they're consistent and talented enough to win out. They get into the Big 10 championship game, which I think they will. And even if they lose that, like the committee's already shown, it doesn't matter what happens there. You're in. Like I think I was in. I mean, they're going to have to slip up. They could slip up. That's possible.
53:25 But I'm buying it right now. I have to buy it because they're my preseason sleeper team. And quite frankly, I'm proud of them already. Mm-hmm. They battled their asses off today. Yeah, banged up too. Banged up. But they're at Washington next week, and I know Washington just lost the USC,
53:42 but you're still playing Demand, and that's always scary, and that big of a road trip. Then you come back, you do have a week off in between at Minnesota. I don't know what to make of this Minnesota team. I have no idea either. There are some pitfalls. I get where you're going with this. There are some potential.
53:58 Wisconsin's better than we thought. Northwestern. By the way. Yeah. If I'm paying $830 plus million on the stadium, it better look like Ryan. Because that place is... Nice.
54:17 I bet the tape is better this year, too. Remember watching tape of Northwestern last year? Oh, it was like... It was what's happening here? I'm trying to watch Dante at Northwestern, and it's... Was it Fox on Friday night? We're doing the, like the, oh my God, the drone of the host.
54:35 And fireworks going up and, I'm like, and I'm turning, I forget who was in the room. I was like, is anyone else seeing this? I didn't, like I knew when I'd see renderings and I'd seen daytime pictures and all that. But like, that was big time. Mm-hmm. And Chip's calling plays and like, I don't know. I got a vibe. They're playing well.
54:58 I mean, they handled Penn State. So I don't, I'm selling. You said you started this off like, I got to buy and then you got two games into their schedule and you're like there's going to be. I get it, man. I get it. There's a strong argument for one of these teams. Like Colton Joseph, the Wisconsin quarterback is erratic as a pastor, but I think he ran for like 120 today and that defense is good. Like there's enough games in there.
55:30 You're like, but because again, Iowa is a really, it's a. damn good football team with a damn good coach, but they don't have, you know, like it's sexes and knows, it's not Jimmy's and Joe's. You know, like,
55:41 and you saw that today. Yeah. So I got to sell. But I still think they're going to get me my nine wins on Fandul. Ole Miss, this one's interesting. College football playoff,
55:57 buy or so, and I want to remind you, there's only four, definitely, five is a stretch, There's no way they're getting six as I tried to beg for recently. But I think five is a legitimate.
56:13 You got Bama now is a powerhouse. Texas, Georgia. And we just told you got Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Florida, all these other Ole Miss, you buying or selling? Selling. I just don't think that defense is good enough.
56:31 I just don't. And I think as good as Trinidad Chambliss is, I'm not sure. I'm not sure they're just not as good overall as a team as they were last year. There's been a matrician, and he can't make up for all of it. I think so, too.
56:48 I'm looking at the schedule. It's not fun, if I remember correctly. Well, they got Texas, Georgia, and Missouri. So, I mean... Yeah, you got Vandy, and then it's Missouri, Texas, Auburn. At Texas, yeah. Then Auburn's your, like,
57:06 breather game. at home, then Georgia comes to town. You're at Oklahoma, which, like, I know that doesn't seem like a big deal right now, but they're capable of becoming a problem by the end of the year. Yeah. And then you get, and then, by the way, you're playing Camaro, Camaro cart. Oh, yeah, I didn't even bring that up. I forgot about that game, yeah.
57:29 And you're, the Egg Bowl. Yep. Yeah, I think I got to sell, too. I'm selling a lot of teams. Yeah, me too. Oregon. Put them in timeout. We'll give him 30 seconds on the clock.
57:43 Are you buying or you're selling? I'm buying, but there's a chance that this is where UCLA could be really interesting because that's the game. They're probably going to play with Dylan Rayl in that game. And who, by the way, in the Precest, and I said it was like the sixth or seventh best quarterback in the Big Ten, and you laughed at me. Just so you remember, I just want to point that out. hang on to that
58:08 so if they can get by them I think that the Ohio State game will be tough but they can go in with two losses and I think if they do that the committee looks at this and says we're putting them in they're that talented and their quarterback was out for a stretch I'm buying
58:22 I can't believe I'm saying that by the way because I was out by me buying by me buying Oregon I'm kind of selling several other like good good big 10 teams but USC
58:36 he's not. Michigan's not. No. You started it and I was like, that's a very interesting. That's a very interesting point, Munch is making. He's right.
58:45 Like they're not out of it yet. And then I wait, it's like every day I wake up and it's like, don't count Michigan out. This Michigan team, every week he's getting better or better under what it is. And I'm like,
58:55 by Tuesday I was over it. And then game day, it's like, Sabin's like Michigan's still. And I'm like, well, if I'm going to be wrong, I'll be wrong with Nick Saban.
59:07 That'll be good. All right. That's an interesting, yeah, that's fun to do. All right, we got in and out of that. So we both basically, we bought Oregon. We have a half buy on Iowa, which came from the person we didn't expect. We had to sell on Florida,
59:21 sell on Mississippi State, sell an Ole Miss. So we're selling the SEC, essentially. Yeah. One of those teams, if LSU, what about LSU? College football play, if buy yourself.
59:36 No, you don't have to give any explanation right now. Put it in, I want it in writing. Bye. I haven't even looked at your schedule. I'm buying, but I'm buying that they're in. I'm missing weeks, but I'm buying too. Okay. Next up, I want to do this quarterback market watch.
59:55 We do it every Saturday in it. We're not going to get into some deep dive here. I already told you about what my thoughts are on car. Chambliss didn't play. Arch didn't play. Dante didn't play. So there's not a whole lot to get into here, but I do want to make one little shift
01:00:08 as you look at our top 10 by week and injured. By week, by week. So I'm, I'm nudging car up ahead of Mensa because it's kind of been inevitable that I've wanted to at some point, but they're right there,
01:00:24 neck and neck. We got a lot of season to go. So Leavitt, I don't even know why he was playing today, but those are his numbers, three touchdowns and interception. Lenora Sellers was kind of, of Superman today, man.
01:00:43 I, but, yeah. But it's hard. It's hard. No one's here for the nuance conversation about that kid right now. And I get it. No, not right now. It needs time to breathe. Okay, good.
01:00:56 I like that. Nico's got a buy week. Miava gets a win. Myava does what he does. It is what it is. But that is good enough for him to be a really good backup or potentially like emerge as a starter in the league. And DeMond Williams is my wild card.
01:01:15 I'm going to hold on for the rest of my life. My gosh, they can't protect him. They don't have receivers that get open, except that one cat who gets open short to intermediate. They have no run game. And he fights his ass off every single week. And he makes some throws like he did in third and long to extend that last drive that he almost converted on to win the game.
01:01:35 But it just one man is not enough against 11, even if those are 11, are the USC defense. Let's move on. Here's one. I want to do one each here because we're running, we're running along now. Yeah, people have to go to church. They've got games. They've got
01:01:54 brunches. They've got all sorts of things on Sunday. You got my attention. Give me one. I'm going with the, and I get it. Listen, I get it. Draft Mafia. Everyone's heard of this guy. He's in our top 50, but I'm going to talk about him because of what's happened recently. You're the only one on draft mafia. So like, and there's eight of them to be watching the show.
01:02:16 So the scumbags can just listen to them. It's for the hardcore draft fans. Greg Johnson, the interior offensive line from Minnesota. They don't get to take that from you. You've been a Greg Johnson guy from day one. What are you talking about? True. True.
01:02:30 Get them out of your head. I did call you the summer and say we got to get him in there because here's the thing. He's been playing left guard for most of the past two years. Before the Washington game, he moved back. back to center where he started two years ago, and he played really good against Washington, and then they played Michigan today, and he had an outstanding game.
01:02:48 This dude is a powerful run blocker. He's an effective pass blocker. He does a good job with his hands, staying in front of guys, smart, and then you add in the versatility. Not only has he started most of the time at left guard, but the one year starting at center, and he got two starts,
01:03:02 one at left tackle, one at right tackle last year. He is, maybe him and Cade Piper are the, the two best interior offensive linemen in the draft. And this kid might be the first one to come off the board. He's that good. My, you got my attention is not even draft related. But I feel like at some point we got to give a little bit of attention to what G.O. Lopez is doing. And what Wake Forest is doing.
01:03:31 And I'll get to Wake Forest. And what Jake Dickert's doing, the former Washington State head coach, has kind of taken over this program. And oh, by the way, they're foreign. their one loss now is to Miami by 13 points. They beat Louisville, which NC State beat Louisville. NC State might be sneaking back into that 9-1 club.
01:03:53 What happened? What happened, Brombe? Come on. Akron, Purdue, Louisville, and then today they go and they beat, Andrew Luck came on the show. We love Andrew Luck. We know he's building something good there, but it's going to take a while.
01:04:09 57 to 3, they beat Stanford. the largest conference win in school history. Gio Lopez accounted for five touchdowns in that game. Gio Lopez is quietly tearing up college football. He's thrown for 1.6K. He's thrown for almost 1,600 yards already. 15 touchdown passes one interception bench. Gio Lopez, who remember I saw Manning Passing Academy,
01:04:34 circa 2025, and was like, listen, I don't, but we're not talking to NFL. about a cat that Bill Belichick picked and this guy can sling it and he's got he's got something to him and that organization stole it from him and some guys are just aren't made for for that and it turns out maybe it's a good thing that some guys aren't made for everything that's around right yeah especially at the college level um and what he's doing there is awesome and so i just want to give a nod because I saw the talent and I was excited about it and it just looked like he was playing heavy last year, weight of the world on him. And now he's loose. He's free and give credit to Jake
01:05:22 Dickert and that whole staff because what they're doing there is kind of exciting. And so I want to give something like, can we get them in the polls this week? Can we get them in the top 25 please? Yeah, they absolutely belong. Absolutely belong. Okay. All right. Last thing, McShay after dark. This is where Mench says something that he's been stewing on all day long and I say something that I, that you can quote it, but it doesn't count. We'll revisit it maybe on Monday or maybe we'll never revisit it again or just into the ether. But go ahead. Enough already.
01:05:58 That's how I approached most of my takes. My enough already is 10-year contracts for coaches. I'm over it. And I feel like we're getting away from it, but it really stood out to me tonight. I'm watching Clemson get handled by Miami and remembering the days that Clemson was a national championship contender and people are always now talking about the bio. I want to circle back on Sweeney,
01:06:21 on Dabo Sweeney, because I want to talk about him for a second. And then I'm watching Lake and Raleigh. Dabo. Dabo. But please don't ever get it right. I can't. I don't know what.
01:06:31 It's bangle. I don't say that word right either. So the fact that you're coming up every week hot on Clemson and then miss. pronounce the guy's first name. By the way, it's pure comedy. It kind of sucks
01:06:44 because he's a great coach, and we'll get back to this in the second. And I'm watching Lincoln Riley with a 10-year contract at USC and thinking to myself, my God, they're celebrating this Washington win, a Washington team that lost to Minnesota. And they're
01:06:58 celebrating this win as if they're going to the playoff. And they just got handled by a team that lost their starting quarterback the week before in Oregon. It's amazing to me how far away they seem from a national championship. And then I think about recent ones, band,
01:07:11 and I think about Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M, James Franklin at Penn State, Brian Kelly at LSU, and the amount of money that they had to pay these guys. I mean, when you take, I think they're playing, they're paying,
01:07:24 I think they're paying Brian Kelly $9 million a year for the next six years, and they're paying Wayne Kiff and 13. So now you've got 22 million. I mean, that's just, you can't handcuff these, and it's interesting.
01:07:37 Like, I would understand it. right? If you were a smaller program and you wanted to go out and get a guy that you thought you couldn't get, I mean, we're talking to Georgia gave Kirby a 10 year. That was a good one. That's a good one. But if you're a program
01:07:50 like USC or even more so LSU, why would you have to give a guy like Brian Kelly 10 years? Like, I don't understand it. And then you handcuff yourself a little bit about what you can go and do. Penn State got lucky because Franklin going to
01:08:05 Virginia Tech cut that buyout down to 9 million. which is, I guess, I guess that's cheap in today's world. I don't know. So that works out well for them. But when they fired them, they didn't know that was going to happen. They had to make the decision about that. And I don't like people losing their jobs. And I do think that Dabo is a different kind of cat because he built Clemson.
01:08:25 I mean, he did build what they have there. That's hit, like he built that. And it's never really been anything like that without him. Whereas LSU and USC and some of these other programs, I'm like, Penn State, like, what do we doing like why are you giving these guys 10 year deals and then you have to spend an absorbent amount of money and then we're going to turn around and talk about what players are making and players can't make this and players can't do that and like come on like it's i'm over the 10 year deals enough already with that and by the way i do think they're getting away from it summer all didn't get a 10 year
01:08:56 deal um kiffin didn't get a 10 year deal i mean it seems like schools are getting away from that model i um i think you're right i mean i it seems Seems obvious to me. I don't think Jimmy Sexton's going to send you a Christmas card. No. But yeah, you nailed it. It's a, yes, that that has to end. Thank you.
01:09:22 Yeah, I can't repeat it. All right, here's my last call. Through the lens of what we're doing for the next eight or so months, whatever it is between now and in the end of April. Keel and Russell makes you second guess what the number. one overall pick should look like. Keel and Russell, through just a few games as a freshman, is making me second guess,
01:09:59 wait, is that worth using two picks or three picks to go up and get? Because we can't all wait for Keel and Russell in a couple years, and we can't wait for Camaro a year later. But watching that game today of Keelan Russell and Camaro Taylor made me think like, oh, so this is what the future of the quarterback position is going to look like, just more refined. And the future of the quarterback position may be disgusting. Like, it may be filthy. It may be weird, how unbelievably talented in some of the things that you can do with your guy under center behind center.
01:10:48 That throw he made climbing the pocket keel and. Russell? The 39-yard throw that was just absolutely ridiculous. Yeah. Laser beam with the receiver to his back. It was a back shoulder fade in the middle of the field. Threw him open on a 39-yard dart. The guy turns
01:11:05 around and has to react to the ball and see that pinpoint spot was the old. I get it. He's making young mistakes here and there. But the mistakes I watched him make in week one, he corrected in week two and then he's refining in week three. Like how much better is this going to get?
01:11:21 And I promise you, Brooks and Coleman Williams are damn talented wide receivers. But it's, I mean, there's more, like, it's not Jeremiah Smith. It's not Cam Coleman. It's not bad. Like, you know, like, yeah. But for these purposes, this is the question. When I was done thinking about C.J. Carr and the Texas offense today, it really started to ask, like, I start, because I've given one 99 grade in my entire. career. That was Andrew Luck. Keelan Russell is the first one where I'm like, that guy's on trajectory
01:12:02 in modern football in today's NFL to get the only other grade of 99. Because that's what it's got to look like. If he in the next two years refines what I'm seeing now, take your 99 and go to the league and have an awesome 20-year run, man. Yeah. because that stuff's special. And I don't see that from Arch and I don't see that from Dante and I don't see that from Carr. I don't see it from Mensa.
01:12:40 I don't see that from go all the way down the list. You see aspects of it, right? I mean... With all of them, certain aspects. I'm saying what he is now, traits-wise, I don't even know, like, are any of them able to be what he is? traits-wise.
01:13:03 And then I'm seeing this development and this confidence. Because with Dante, it's like, can you grab it and just take it and go win a game and carry this team? Can you not make that throw in that situation? Yeah. With Arch, it's like, can you stop sticking with a progression read and locking on to this guy and we'd get the ball out where you get your eyes where they need to go and, you know, with Mensa, it's like, God, I love your game, man.
01:13:34 everything's so good, but he can't fit it into spots this guy can. And you saw the mobility that I see in him tonight. Can't run like this guy can. No, no. And Carr's going to do all this stuff. And I went on and on and on about the Brady and surgery and all of it. Good arm, not elite. Meneuve's in the pocket a little bit, but never going to be anybody.
01:13:59 So Levitts get some of those tools, like the and the, the and the but not quite to his level. So this awesome 2027 class we're talking about that could very well spill into 2028 doesn't have a single guy I'm excited about traits wise that's got what I saw today
01:14:25 in Starkville. Well, Camario can't come out in that draft. Camario can come out in that in the same draft. Next year. But he could stick around until 2020. He could. They both are eligible for the 28 draft.
01:14:41 Both Keelan Russell and Camaro Taylor are eligible for the 20th. Oh, I thought, I thought the beautiful. Then it'll be here faster than I thought. Yeah. And that's every reason why some of these cats shouldn't go back, should wind up leaving early. If that's their ultimate goal, which let me ask you this. I'm saying that the ultimate goal is go to the league when you're absolutely ready.
01:15:02 And no matter the concussion or however the rest of the season plays out, it still was in the best interest of Dante Moore coming back to school. I will go to my deathbed knowing that because he's a little bit more experienced. He had another offseason. He's refined some things and he's in a better place. If he doesn't take another snap this season, it still was better for him to come back this year.
01:15:24 Yeah, I agree. I agree with that. Have you seen enough pressure point moments for Keel and Russell at this point? Like we haven't seen him. No, I know that. I'm saying, I'm witnessing something. Like, Michael Vick played the same position as everyone. He just played it a little differently and fuck, a little bit better.
01:15:49 And then there was this guy and then there was that guy. And then there was Andrew Luck who seemed like he had it all, right? And he did. And including up here and this and that. and they could run and the competitive he had like everything you look for right but that was still back in the
01:16:09 the national football league and then the car ball carriage and strong base so what you were saying let me ask you this you had it like the evolution chart you see of like the evolution of man
01:16:24 if you did the evolution of the quarterback you would have Keelan Russell at the top of the evolution right now that's what you think he could be I felt like I was watching the evolution chart. And while I love all of these quarterbacks, I'm looking at, they're not going to,
01:16:38 I'm worried. They may not evolve into, this is perfect. I'm worried they may not, and we're talking about 10 of them right here. Without even Mess to Maker listed or a couple other guys, I'm worried none of them will evolve to what the evolution chart is pointing towards
01:17:02 with Camario Taylor and Keel and Russell. Yeah. That's my point tonight. Let me revisit this with you. Okay. Before going into this game, we both said, if you had Camario Taylor for one year or Keel and Russell for two years, you would take Keel and Russell.
01:17:20 What if it's one year for each one of them? Do you still feel the same? Can you take Keel and now? Yeah. Okay. I think I'd agree with you. Today was something different, man. It was special.
01:17:32 And it was just the throws and the maneuverability and all that was off the charts. There's something about this dude is just unconscious. He's playing at a different level. It feels like the game's slowing down faster each week, and that doesn't happen at this clip. So hats to Grubb. Ryan Grub's doing a great job, and, like, DeBore, like they have a history of doing this.
01:18:01 I gave you the whole history this past week. Yeah. And here they go again. From Jake freaking Hayner, 4,000 plus yards, fourth round draft pick, that's what they do with these guys, to Michael Pennix in Washington,
01:18:13 to Ty Simpson last year. They get the best out of these guys. Yeah. But usually the ones that have all the physical tools, and this applies to defensive ends, and offensive tackles and wide receiver, usually the ones that have all these physical tools, don't put in the work to show
01:18:34 this progress this quickly. And that's what I'm seeing. And that's exciting. All right. Let's get out of here. Mench. Five stars. Thanks, man.
