Ladies and gentlemen, if you're joining us here today, we have just finished the Predator, me and Tara, Tara and me.

Go get this shirt.
get that shirt and also spooky season go get your she jacks merch they have so many cool things
they got shirts they got sweaters we got this stuff over there yeah neck's over there but we talked
about that but now it's time to talk about this freaking movie tarah oh man coming to me first huh
hey i got to i got to get it over listen i think that the comedy in this
would like remember nice guys right but we only have two people yeah the the tone and the pacing
that was best done with the comedy in this movie it was when he goes hey buddy when we get done
with this we're going to dance and he goes I already got my shoes picked out it was great it was
choppy it was nice they go about their ways I was like yes that is what we're looking for that
tone that pacing that delivery and the rest of it like it's just like why did we not
up enough of a camaraderie with this guy and all of the mates he just met a few days ago in this
bus that for us to like care because they're joining along with him to fight this alien but they
don't actually need to all stay together for the sake of this guy's son it's not like they have a
huge attachment so it did feel weird when they were like not going their separate ways and then
we add in the scientists who's apparently a badass I mean she saved the day at the end
She jumped on the guy's head and shot him.
And I'm like, she doesn't have any military training.
It literally says she's a scientist.
I was like, why didn't they write it in?
If they're going to make her a badass, right?
And she chooses a gun.
How are they just claiming her to be a scientist, a biologist?
And she does all that.
And her instincts are grab the gun and she actually is going to shoot the guy and they unloaded it to test her.
I didn't understand that part of it.
There's some of the stuff that was a little confusing.
but I did think overall that the movie was fun.
It still was a really fun ride.
I enjoy that they added the comedy in there.
It just, it was hit or miss,
and it didn't really hit more than it missed, I would say.
But I did like a lot of the kills.
And the special effects I thought were fun.
And I think my favorite is when he did the,
he shot the thing across and killed one of the guys,
the um what do you call it the line stayed and it it botched off the heads of those guys in the
truck i was like that's killer cool loved it was metal yeah what's up guys out with it uh this movie
was interesting it was a mixed bag for me because on one hand i really liked the way it started
with it being in space and we didn't know what was going on
And I thought for the most part the action was pretty cool.
I thought the effects were really good.
I like the actors in the movie.
Just something about the writing wasn't it.
I'll also say I liked them adding to the mythology of the Predator with us saying that,
okay, they're here to now, in a sense, sort of terraform Earth kind of take over the planet
because we're slowly killing ourselves kind of thing.
I'm like, okay, that stuff's interesting, having it be about them evolving and taking
like bits and pieces of the best hunters across the universe and I guess they just found
an abundance of the people that they deem worthy on planet Earth.
I'm like, okay, that's different.
That's in addition to what we know about this franchise.
But that being said, it was weird because something about watching these five things,
guys in a bus all kind of talk to each other and have banter and it not be funny just something
about it ran hollow to me it felt like like it's like hard because it's like why was it not funny
what was what was missing it because they told us information about the characters like i think
like the bare minimum but a lot of it was like trying to be joky and then like you have that scene
where they're all standing in front of olivian mun when she wakes up and like they had to do like the
whole bet thing and then they have the whole thing about like what did you just say to me like
i never thought found the first of all i'll say i don't take offense to quote unquote offensive
humor like if it works it works that being said like the thomas jane thing with the turetza
just never found funny it just did not work for me um i really it's a baffling experience because
on paper you would think something like this would work and it's coming off the heels of the
MCU right where it's like okay we got to have the stuff that's cool and we got to have a lot of
mythology we're going to have all this banter but it just lacked some of that heart that
it would take to make something like that work like if there are moments where the relationship
between the father and son McKenna was working for me and I like I like the kid but there's just
some really dumb decisions yeah that weren't that that kind of uh took away from some of the
enjoyment for me but I'd like the tone of the movie I thought
the tone of the movie was very fun.
And I like Sterling K. Brown as the character.
I just didn't know anything about him.
I just thought there's some interesting choices.
Like, you guys saw me.
I like cackled like louder than I ever cackled at that one line because it just put me off
guard.
And I would have loved to know more about his stress level, his relationship with his guys,
why he's chewing nicotine.
Like they added like these little character flourishes about adding any meaning behind
those flourishes.
Agreed.
And I didn't really feel anything with anyone.
when anyone died and it wasn't the fact
that we had too many characters
because I felt like we see a movie like
the original Predator, right? Where we do have
a cast of characters, a rag team,
a rag tag band of people.
And it's funny as of recording this,
the last movie Tara and I watched together
was Predators. And I feel like
that movie was much better than this movie because
it was so, what
makes a movie good in my opinion,
at least I can't say this is like the universal rule,
but after watching so many movies, I'm noticing
like a common trend right is either strength of characters or have an interesting plot or both or you
have a super simple plot that gives you room for having a lot of character exploration right and i feel
like the blast movie had such a simple plot it allowed us to spend more time with our characters
where we maybe weren't like heartbroken when they died but i was invested in watching these people
go through this journey figuring out what's happening on this planet and the mystery of how they're
going to overcome the odds, but I feel like there was just so many things that was trying to
balance, like the external threat of the military, and then you got the predator, and then you
got the band with these guys, then you got the predator. And it was just too many cooks in the
kitchen to make this a fully satisfying experience, because I felt like it was trying to be all
these different things and trying to start a franchise, rather than just being a solid film
in and of itself.
Yeah, I do think that maybe the comedy would have come across as I was watching this.
If we got rid of all the characters, not all of them, but like five of the guys, we could
have more banter between two people that we have more of a connection with, but then that would
take away, hey, I got seven guys here sniping.
It would take away like the strength of at the end how he's actually going to win.
against this guy because it's strength in numbers.
Honestly, you know what I would have preferred?
Take out everybody but Nebraska, it would have been great.
Yeah.
McKenna, Nebraska, doing their thing.
That's what I'm saying.
That's what the relationship is with the strongest.
The other guys were just there as common belief.
I know, they were just like there and they died and you're like, okay, arm cut off.
Like, I just can't believe that Brown just like shot himself.
It was so wild to me.
It felt like a last minute decision like, oh, we don't know what to do with Sterling Kay Brown's character.
We're going to make a quick edit.
so just off himself.
It's just weird.
It's odd.
But towards the end, I was literally thinking,
I really think that a lot of these jokes that they added in here,
like, were funny.
I mean, on the page, I would think, like, oh, when we get together,
if this can really be back and forth and, like,
very witty with the right kind of actors,
which they're choosing Keegan Michael Key,
he's perfect at comedy pacing and tone.
And, like, his delivery is still great in this.
but it's like the film is not uplifting that
because of the way I think that it was maybe directed
and possibly shot and maybe just,
I don't know if it's in the editing.
I just, when I was, even from the top,
you're like, ha-ha, on the page,
I guess I would read it and go,
but looking at it on camera,
I'm not laughing as much as they would hope us to be.
And I would like to,
they're choosing good.
actors, but there's something about it that is missing. And I still don't quite know. And it may just be
because we didn't get enough time with the characters to really sit and enjoy their banter.
We just kind of got into it all strangers. And if they cut down those characters and it was just
him and another, and they had all of that banter, even when they go see his wife and the kid. And
it's a bunch, we would really care for them, right? We would, then we would have time to really
get to know them. I think there's a combination
of like heart and efficiency. Yeah. The other
ones that, because if you want to have
all these characters and you want us to laugh and be
endeared to them, you have to give us a reason
to care by adding an element of heart.
And one, giving them
a solid reason for them all to be together,
but two, add
that, yeah,
not necessarily you need to make it heavy,
but add that heart to give us a reason
to give a shit about the people we're watching.
But also, I think what makes the
Predator movies interesting, is,
the the cat and mouse nature of what the predators are and I felt like with having our team there for most of the runtime without them getting like picked off for so we feel a sense of stakes and feel a sense of danger that oh this thing we know it kills other predators but oh it's killing the people we actually care about if you established a reason for us to care about them like have elements of sincerity sincerity of it but it felt like it was just a lot of jokes outside of the relationship between McKenna and Nebraska and his relationship.
with his son and i felt like oblivion month's character was just there for exposition she didn't
really add anything to the inner play or the um the relationship of the groups or even with any
of the other characters she felt like just a kind of a mouthpiece to give us the audience more
insight into uh predator lore right yeah yeah man it's it's such a strange experience because like i
liked all the actors in it me too i enjoyed the action i enjoyed the um some some of the acting i
don't know i it's it was so weird because it feels like on paper it should have worked yeah on paper
i feel like it should have but it just felt like there's something definitely missing i didn't
hate watching it just felt hollow to me yeah it still was a lot of fun but i get i get where you're
coming from with that it didn't feel like a full film there's just something lacking um should i read
some trivia? Sure, yeah. All right. When the Predator
grabs its mask from the display case, the original Predator
Mass from the 1987 movie is briefly seen right next
to it. Cool. Cool. Although no mention is made in the movie, the character
Keyes, played by Jake Busey, is the son of Peter Keyes, the government official
from Predator 2, who died during the hunt for the predator.
Peter Keyes was played by Gary Busey, who's
Jake's father in real life, which you pointed out, but I didn't realize the
connection in the movies. Oh, yeah, they didn't make it very clear.
pretty cool um the film was originally conceived as reboot of predator until shame black came aboard and confirmed he would be making a sequel instead as he wanted to continue to explore the predator mythology okay and that was apparent that he wanted to do that yeah um Shane black wrote Thomas Jane's character Baxley with Tourette's syndrome because Black himself has Tourette's oh oh I don't know I didn't wow okay um I'll
Read one more. Arnold Schwarzenegger turned down the opportunity to return his Dutch from Predator because his appearance at the end would only be a cameo. This marked the fourth time he declined the chance to reprides his role. He skipped Predator 2 due to salary disputes and because it would have clashed with the filming of kindergarten cop and Terminator 2, Judgment Day. For the crossover film Alien versus Predator, he was willing to make a cameo but had no choice but to turn it down as he had been elected governor of California and his schedule would not have made it possible.
The same reason was given for him declining a cameo in Predators 2010, because he was the governor of the state we're living in.
Wow.
Yeah.
Wow.
Schwarzenegger.
Could have had a Schwarzenegger cameo.
Maybe one day will get a charper.
They said that line in this movie, but they changed the context.
Wow.
They did.
Wow.
Okay.
Well, we did it.
We did the thing.
We watched the Predator movies.
I think we got one more.
We've watched the Predators, so I think it might be time for some prey.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah.
I think that sounds good.
What do you guys think?
That sounds good.
Yeah?
Okay, cool.
Well, we had a good time, guys.
Thank you guys so much for watching.
Terry.
Do you have any more thoughts before we wrap this up?
No, love you guys.
Thanks for joining us.
Okay.
Love you guys so much.
And we'll see you guys in the next one.
Flev Doran.
Oh, Flev.
If there's anyone who's a predator at our Patreon,
It's certainly Flev Doren.
Yeah, always lurking.
I don't mean, I don't mean by like a predator who like a stalks and attacks people.
Like I saws people.
I mean like a predator like the creature.
Oh sure with like the mouth that opens up.
Yeah.
He's always hunting and he's like really strategic.
Exactly.
So, you know, like Flev, he's always like in the bushes watching you.
Or like a betrayed, like staring ominously.
It's like awesome.
but usually, like, looking at women.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He'll do that cool crouch thing and, like, turn his head and, like, look at, you might attack you when you're not looking, but not like, I'm talking about, like, the alien predator, not like a, not like the creepy kind of predator.
Not like just a creepy guy jumping out of the bushes and tackling you and putting you into his white van.
More like, yeah, a big hulking, you know, intergalactic creature.
Like a person that when you're around their presence, you're just, like, scared of, like, them.
This person is going to take my head for a.
trophy that's pretty unsettling yeah like the fun alien predator not not like a creepy
just imagine flev predator like the monster movie predator with each of our heads on his shoulder
plates with a spike through it oh my god yeah it sounds great so sick exactly because like you know
just to further distinguish from like a real creepy predator you like like flev sometimes
kidnaps people yes keeps them alive to torture them
I'm like just enough to keep them alive, but not enough to nourish them.
And takes their skin and skulls and makes trophies out of it.
Yeah, and broadcasts it on the dark web.
Again, not making, this is not about the real predators.
It's about the fake predators.
Yes.
That the movie that we're referencing.
Yes.
Okay.
Yeah.
You're nothing like a cheetah on the Serengetty plane.
Nothing like a real predator.
Nothing like a real creepy predator.
You're like the cool predator.
Sure.
That we worship and love and have made a franchise about it.
Happy birthday, fluff.
Hey.
