00:00Guys, I want to get back out on the lake.Well, you do live right on Lake Ontario.Okay, fair point. But I'm thinking I'd like to plan a trip to Kelowna in British Columbia.Oh, yes, solid choice. We found a great place on Airbnb near Lakeshore Road.Going to check out the restaurants, the coffee shops, definitely got to visit the wineries. It sounds like the whole trip's built around snacks and drinks.
00:24As it should be.But it got me thinking, while we're out there, our place back home is just, sitting empty. So you're going to list your space on Airbnb while you're gone? Why not? They can come tomy neighborhood and live like a local. My favorite Mexican places close by, we've got some amazingparks and waterfront to explore. There's even drop in wreck hockey just down the street. Plus,a little extra cash in your pocket for the next trip. Exactly. It just makes sense. Your home might beworth more than you think. Find out how much at Airbnb.ca slash host.with your host

01:29Apparently we raised over $2,000 for Rachel's RaidersJust last nightOur team is at $30,500Let's keep it rolling.Whoa, that's crazy.Keep it rolling.Frozen Fancy.Mammoth mascot Tusky.
01:41That's their mask.Yeah.Tusky.I forgot.And look at that.Pose on the right.That's some attitude.The girthy tusk.
01:49Yeah.See?I mean, trunk.That is some attitude.He is sassy.Sure is.That's a mascot that could scare a couple kids.Oh, yeah.
01:58Like the cat in Edmonton.That's a scary mascot.Yes.Yeah.Gritty's funny.Oh, murder cat.Murder cat.Hunter cat.
02:07Hunter is his name.Hunter.Sparta cat in Ottawa.Better cat.I love Sparta Cat.Better cat than Hunter. Also, is Sparta Cat the most elite name for?I love the name.
02:20It's a great name.Victor E. Green.Pretty good.Alice.Yeah, you're right.Yeah.It's pretty good.Isn't the Florida one called like Stanley E. Cup or something?
02:30Stan, Stan.Stan.I don't know.Stanley.It's probably, again, just murder cat.Yeah, it's other murder cat.Third Kachuk.I don't know what they're called.
02:44I wasn't very far off.Stanley C. Panther was the Florida Panthers mascot.And then they have Victor E. Rat as well.Oh, right.Victor E. Rat. I remember him.Yeah.Yeah.No.
03:00Victor E. Green is so much better than Victor E. Rat.Wait, the Kings have a bear? What is that?Yeah, remember? And then Panarin gave him like a Rolex or whatever.A Rolex, yes.Okay.Which is so silly because, like, Joseph Wall didn't give Carlton the bear a Rolex,
03:18and I want justice for Carlton.Why is his name Bailey?I believe it's to do with Ace Bailey.Garnet Bailey.Garnet Bailey.Yes.Ace Bailey.Sorry, I know only a handful of.
03:31The director of King's pro scouting from.From 994 until his death in September 11th.Oh, wow.Okay, I love that.All right.All right.All right.Wow.
03:40Damn.Okay.Carlton, obviously.A lot of history with these mascots.Yeah.Carlton the bear was obviously named after the street that Maple Leaf Gardens was on.Yes.So that kind of makes sense.
03:48And Carlton the bear has been at Steve's house for one of his kids' birthday parties.New Jersey Devil's mascot name.Lucifer B.Yels a puck.N.J.Devil.Boo. That's a boo, right?
04:07Is it a devil, too?Yeah. So it's just like, it's a devil. All right, cool.I mean, he's got, he kind of, you know what I think about him?He kind of reminds me of the guy from, uh, did you guys ever see Euro trip where the guys like, they're in the, they're in the rail car?And he's like, oh, miscuzzi, miscuzi. And he's got like, oh, my God, he does.He looks like the miscusi guy. He was like moving in on them when the, when they go under a bridge and it's dark.Yes. It's, that movie was of its time. We saw it.
04:35for my 16th birthday, I believe.Great movie.Sparky the dragon.Sparky the dragon.A large biped dragon mascot. That was like somebody who definitely hangs outwith Seth Rogen and gets high.So Sparky the dragon,
04:49who are the two guys on the Leafs video staffwho everyone loves? I forget their name. Sam Kim.and Jordan Bean.Sam Kim used to be Sparky the Dragon.No.That's an insane. What a crazy trajectory. Are you serious?
05:00How do you graduate from one to the next?Google it.I swear to God.Listen, we used to have this saying on the show, and I think it's time we bring it back.Anybody can be an NHL general manager.Anybody.And, you know, back in the day, we'd be like, look at the talent that they've actually hired. You could be one right now.
05:15Now, I think general managers, on the whole, have gotten a lot smarter since when we started.Yes, but like, it's, you don't have to be a former player. No, you don't.Right?Which is an extraordinarily difficult thing to do.It's also extraordinarily difficult to be an NHLGM, but there are other paths.other than I played.Yes.
05:36Which is good.It is good. You don't have to play the gameto know how to general manage.I've never seen Eric Tulski's HockeyDB.It wouldn't be very impressive.Got it up.All right.
05:46Last mascot trivia fact.Who is the one team in the leaguewithout a mascot?Oh, who hates fun? That's a good way to start.A team without a mascot?Yeah, there's one team in the league. So what I was looking at,
06:03I was like, all right, who are all the teams that Lou Lamarillo was GM of?They all have mascots.Yeah. But you're on the right track of who owns a team and he hates fun.The Bruins. No, they have one, Blades.Oh, yeah. And Jeremy Jacobs. We have the Blades figures from McFarland Toys.
06:20We've given those away.Yes, actually, it's quite a good one.Yeah.Owner who hates fun.Owner who hates.Five seconds.The Blackhawks have one.Four seconds.
06:30Wait, three seconds.Owner hates fun.Two and one.submit a guess.Vancouver.Uh,the friggin,I don't know.
06:38The New York Rangers.Don't have a mascot?They don't have a mascot.James Dolan,James Dolan's like,no children,you're not going to have fun.Whoa.
06:48Isn't that strange? And like,it feels dorky to introduce a mascotin like modern times. The flyers did it.But yeah, why not?The flyers did it.
06:58Like that I thought Gritty was going to get peltedwith batteries. And he's like, the most popular thing ever. And has recently had a romantic relationship with Trevor Zegris. Is that why Ziegress is scoring?Oh, he is scoring. It's just off the ice.
07:13Yeah.We should start a campaign to get the Rangers a mascot.I think, sure.I think we'll get ignored. What if it's Steve E.Dangle?I do think that there is a,I do think that there is a,
07:30a world where the Rangers get sold.here in the next year or two.Yeah.Maybe the next guy won't suck.Doesn't have flock cameras in his arena, doesn't have a mascot.Oh, no, they'll still be using Madison Square Garden. It will be flock cameras.Oh, okay.
07:47But Lady Lib.And it's just like the Statue of Liberty.Well, with Ranger, you could.Left leading politics.Rangers, you could do like, there was like, there was like Ranger units in like theRevolutionary War.You could have like aalmost like a revolutionary war soldier
08:04or something like it's easy.A lot of things.Yeah.Could just be a nice bear.Could be anything.Ranger the bear.It could be.I think they should just hire that guy
08:13who's a professional wrestlerwho just tosses pizza all match.I don't even know if that guy's from New York.I love that guy.Just ripping pizzas.Whoa.And he's just going up and down the aisle.Tossing a pizza,
08:25throws a shirt,catches the pizza.That would be electric.I'd love that.Actually, it'd be incredible.Yes, it would.You're so right about Gritty too.Like Gritty is just a creation.
08:35It didn't really have that much to do with Philly, but like it's just a cool mascot thatnow has a hilarious personality. They leaned up with something. They leaned into it.Yeah, it's just stupid.Whatever.Look at him go like this.Yeah.
08:46And James Dolan does not care.Yeah.Oh, I love Gritty.Look at him go like this.Great.Now, Frozen Frenzy.Yesterday, every team played, even teams without a mascot. And they staggered the start.
09:00They staggered the starts. Now, after, Canadians were a little pissed off on Thanksgiving because we had a game in the mid-afternoon and it was fun and exciting. And then it was like three hours till your next game.It was like, boo, his, tomato.Yesterday, and I think CJ made a really good point before the Frozen Frenzy actually kicked off on the CJ show. He's like, I just wish they would start it a little bit earlier.Because the thing about the staggered starts is they're great. But if you combine it into this six-hour window or seven-hour window that they did, there's a lot of games that you just,
09:30simply can't see. You got to pick a call. Right? It'd be nice if you could spread it out over likenine hours. So you could at least watch three different games. And CJ was saying, you know, they're trying to put some games a little bit earlier because of the, you know, European involvementand now they want European people to be able to watch. That makes sense. But not yesterday. And it would have been better if this was all on a weekend. I agree. Why don't they do it on a Saturday? I don't understand the Saturday. I think the Saturday thing iscollege football. The Monday thing is Monday night football because ESPN owns the right. So ESPN needsa free day in their broadcast calendar to do this.
10:03So if you're doing in the fall, they have too much football. It's stacked in their calendar, so they can't really do it on Saturdays of college footballand Mondays of Monday. And then, yeah, they're the NBA starting soon.So all of those channels would be taken. So there's looking for a free day in the fall.So why today? Why?
10:19The answer is always well, other more popular sports are available. They have different priorities. So the Tuesday is the day in October that they can do it.Now, I do got to give them credit. The staggered starts and everything.I want to show you my favorite out-of-town moment from yesterday. Can I show you? Please.
10:34I sent it to Jesse.Jesse, can you bring it on the screen?Yeah. So I was trying to watch it out of town.I think that was Montreal Buffalo.Or it could have been on.I watched it.You tried to watch it on your Bell 5 box,
10:48which is the wrong place to watch it.You have to watch it on the Sportsnet Plus app with the mega premium package.Yeah.Got to get good, Steve. No, so I did.Give more money to Rogers.No.I did what the vast majority of people do.
11:04Oh, okay, I just won't watch. My job yesterday was watch Leaves Mammoth, so I did.I didn't watch the other games.Wow.Hater.There's highlights.By the way, the first period of that Montreal Buffalo game was awful. The rest of the game was good.
11:18Oh, I bet.I don't think we have Habs Corner put into the side of the show. But if there's ever a time to complain about winning games, like now might be the time.Because Montreal, they outplay Nashville, and then they lose that game because Mike Mathifin is psycho and stupid. And then they, on Saturday, they score three goals, none of them count. They win that game outplayed, but you almost lose it in a shootout. And then last night, they really beat up on Buffalo, and they have to win it again in a shootout.Yep.
11:49So either it's really good that they're winning these games where they're dominating, they eventually come out with the win,or I'm upset at the way they're winning these games.Or Dobish can make a safe.Oh, boy.is not at a good start.Well, he hasn't.That's okay.Fowler has.
12:02Let's throw this out there. The universe has a funny way of evening things out. They do.It does. And the Montreal Canadiens last season, let's be honest, won a lot of games they shouldn't have.Yeah.Right?So now they're still pulling it out.
12:18Yeah.Still pulling it out.But.Yeah.To me, I mean, everybody's just sort of rounding into form still.Like, you know, when they were talking a little bit about, I think it was freehad something about like, well, do the players think that the training camp should be longer?I kind of like that the hockey's bad.
12:35Oh, definitely.I love that the hockey's bad.I love that it's chaotic.I love that, well, we didn't have those few extra days at training camp to figure this out.Because a lot of teams, what they revert to because coaches always do this, is let's playboring to limit the chances. What if you physically can't do that?It would have been way better if yesterday at second intermission, Toronto, Utah, you just
12:56turned it off.Yeah.Zero, zero.way cooler. No, three goal lead, games over.Well, last year, that's what it would have been.100%.And yesterday, yes, the fifth goal did end up being the game winner.
13:09But we didn't know that until the very end.Adam Jacob Fowler was in that last night. He was?Idiot! No, I meant you meant the other games where he wasn't in like he could.Well, that's only the Nashville game where like I put that blame on Mike Mathes in.And then Fowler won against Detroit.Yeah, Fowler won the last two games.
13:26So Dobish has played three games.has an 8-5-6, save percentageand a 4-4-3 goals against average. That's my point. That hasn't.I just got in line for the best.I guess those particular games, okay, fine.Yeah.
13:36But I just think, hey, listen, make save, man.And I could say the same about. That's going around, isn't it?Anthony Stollers, but we'll get to that in a second.I think what we need to start with, which actually was the biggest overall national news storyin the NHL yesterday is the Red Wings finally did something.Wow.
13:53I saw that. And so,I couldn't believe it.During or just after the Red Wings game, which was one of the first on the schedule,it was announced that CJ put out that they had made progresson a deal between the Red Wings and Alex DeBrinCat,who was going to be a UFA at the end of this year.
14:11And obviously a Michigan guy didn't get a phone call all summer, but nobody else did either because there was nobody in charge. And so he's going to make $13 million going forward, seven more years.I think this is a very positive development for the Detroit Red Wendronwings. Yeah. I don't really have feedback beyond good, good. Like this is a, that's what a 40 goal guy gets.Man, I did not realize he was 28. I know. Where did the time go? But he's a very consistent goal score. You take him, you know, for his faults. He doesn't provide absolutely everything, but he scores.
14:50He's paid to score and he's going to score. There's enough evidence that Alex Brinket will show up.for your hockey team,I'll say I call the Ottawa Senators, and score at a consistently very, very, very good rate. And none of us should be surprised. We talked about this. We've been doing this long enoughthat I can remember talking about him
15:12in his draft year when I called him Brindicatbecause I'm stupid.Yeah, I remember that.He had, was it two straight 50 goal seasonsin the OHL leading into his draft yearfollowed by a third? And he went in there.the second round.
15:28What was anybody thinking?I don't know his OHL stuff. This should go back toanyone could be a NHLGM.Yeah.Like enough time has passed since that draft. We can confidently saythe vast majority of teams were wrong.
15:45Yes.Including the Leafs who drafted Igor Korshkov.Actually, that's not true.Korshkov is averaging a goal at game.De Brinket's not.Well, I thinkI think perhaps the most surprising thing is that somebody, given what has happened this summer,is like, yes, I want to stay here for the rest of my career.
16:03And DeBrinCat is a Michigan guy, loves being a Red Wing, always wanted to be a Red Wing.So it's not, like, it's not that far-fetched, but he's 28.He can go anywhere. And this team is nowhere close to winning anything from this vantage point.Listen, if you look at me in June and go, hey, the Red Wings won the Cup, how do you feel about that clip?I'll be like, I stand behind it.Nobody saw that coming.Right.
16:27But, you know, ultimately, even if they sign Edvinson, they've got to bring cat locked up and Dylan Larkin says, you know what, I will stay. They're still the same team as they were last year. They made no major additions except for Victor Arvinson, who you, you know, at this point in your career, you're hoping he can do the 50 point thing again. He had a good season.
16:44They lost, like, where are they getting better? The best case scenario for the Red Wings right nowis they stay the same as the team that's missed.playoffs the last four years. So I've hammered, we've hammered the Red Wings and deservedly so.Red Wings fans have hammered the Red Wings. This is Rock Bottom and I kind of feel like it's ahigh bottom. Does that make sense? They like, people have said that about me. Hey, ho. Like, they're a mess. They're a mess. But they still have Edvinson, or at least his rights, they stillhave Larkin, and for goodness sake he's actually playing for them. They have Debrinket, they have Moe Cider.
17:22Lucas Raymond. They should. And, you know, they already have a few pretty high picks who look NHL ready-ish.I mean, this isn't a team that I think needs to completely strip it down. But they could add. They could go back to your-Certainly add.So go back to your clip that we played on Monday show about the Philadelphia Flyers.
17:48And you're like, yeah, it's great that you took all these big swings, but you're still the same. The Red Wings are still the same. Now, that is a, in the best case scenario, a fringe playoff team, right?Best case scenario. But again, they've lost a couple of pieces. They added Arvinson. It's still, like, listen, it's still not great, but I could understand why a player would extend there, right? They are in deep trouble.
18:13So is Adam.He's choking to death right now.But, I mean, let's also not tiptoe around the fact.It's $90 million.Yeah, that's pretty cool.What was it 91?Yes, 13 a year.Guys, he could have got that anywhere.
18:28I mean, he couldn't have got the seventh year.Yeah.There it is.Right? The seventh year, which takes him to 35.Which is.Yeah, this is the contract.Like, they're offering him the contract of his value.
18:42Like, that's an incredible number. And that number's probably the same as what he'd get in free agency, that 13.Or if he's traded any signs with that new team.Yeah.So, like, there is a part of to bring. He's like, I'm going to take this money.Plus, I'm happy in my situation.Yeah, which you can't fault them for.
18:57It's good. And last night, because the New Jersey Detroit game was the ESPN one, the one they're showing. And so I got to see a little bit that. And that second line of him, Finney and what are they called?MBN is how the Red Wings are shortening it now. That second line is really good. And Emmett Finney is the found money so far this season for the Detroit Red Wings. And you've got to look at that and say, we have something here with three, two really young players and then one guy who's in his prime.
19:30We can go forward with this this season and moving forward and think we have like a really good line there. And then just about figuring out the rest of the pieces on that forward group because Lucas Raymond's been like a shell of himself. He's been terrible so far.Yeah.And this season and last night was same stuff.Like I don't know what's going on with him there.I think he'll be fine. But you have to believe that he's going to be fine because he's 24 and has shown so.
19:53much more than this already. So you look at like Steve, I don't think you're wrong that like this is a good bottom. It's a high, it's a high bottom where it's like we're not absolutely dog shit here like the lastcouple of years of like the Blackhawks and and when the sharks were at the bottom. There's no redeeming quality.Yeah, with those teams. This is like a decent team that if a general manager could get in there and do his job correctlyand be allowed to do his job and the owner lets him do his job.
20:23there's something there in the next couple seasons for a playoff team. They could, this team could add an elite or they could add a top two defensemenwith a stroke of a pen.Yeah.And maybe they'll be even better.Yeah.But you know, like here's what's most encouraging. It's not just that you got a guy to stay.
20:46You know, Adam has said this multiple times in the show and it's something I've heard separatefrom him.Like, we were under the impression,Horcoff was not allowed to make long-term deals.Definitely in the summer he wasn't allowed to make.100%.He wasn't allowed to do anything. So I still believe that that was the case,
21:08and the evidence I present to you is he didn't do anything. That's changed.Isn't that great news? And Simon Edvinson is returning to North America to train, maybe that's a trade, maybe that's a signing, I don't know, you know, oh, Larkin's not going to play,oh, he's going to fake an injury or whatever. He's in the lineup in his performance.I never thought, by the way, he was ever going to do that.
21:35No, but that's what some fans have thought.Okay.Right?And one by one by one, all these concerns of Detroit Red Wings fans are slowly melting away, which is as good an outcome as they could possibly hope for.Right.I did think of how we were talking about them two weeks ago.One week ago.
21:56Yeah.Listen, though, one of three is done.Yeah.Let's not give too much credit here. And this, you got 33% on the test.Congratulations.That's similar to my math mark in grade 11.And I think that you need to, you need to understand that like this should, you know,
22:11we're giving them credit now. It's October 14th.All this stuff could have been done July 15th.This does not erase in my mind all the damage Chris Illich has done to the Red Wingsfranchise.tried.Yeah.Like, okay, so Evanston signs.
22:25All right. He comes back, maybe in a week or something gets, you know, gets acclimated. He's probably not going to be his top level to start. So maybe it takes him a few weeks to get going, but he's a young player. He's like 23, right? It'll be fine. And then what?Yeah.
22:38And then what? And the one thing I always scream about when they get these deals done like afterwards,I'm like, why couldn't that have been done a month ago?Why was that not done in August? Why was that not done early September?Jesse, they were on vacation. If you eventually get to that number, you should have got to that number six weeks ago.
22:55Yeah.But here's...Like the Leafs with Dubus and Nylander.Yeah, it's so silly. That Dubus was the one that ended up capitulated.Nealander said,if you've given me this offer in camp,I would have taken it.
23:04It's so silly. But here's what's interesting is you know who to be mad at,but also there's nothing you can do about it.The answer to your question, Jesse, is Chris Illich.Yeah.The guy who's going to fix it is Sean Horcoff. So, or it's Chris Illich, just deciding to be like an NHL owner.
23:23I don't know. But like,do you think it's a little puppet up the butt and he's out of Sean Corphe?Sean Horcuff cannot sign a $91 million contract without getting permission from his boss.Yes.You know what I mean?Yeah. So that's the long and short of it.
23:41Usually teams that are getting as much heat as the Red Wings have over the last month, everyone's like their GM is an idiot and needs to go.Horkov is getting all the slack in the world.Horkov, like, he should take advantage of this. He's like, buddy, you could go out there and make like a bunch of mistakes.People are going to be like, ah, but it's Chris.Yeah.It's Chris Illich.
24:05It's got nothing to do with him.I mean, other strategy just don't make mistakes. But it's encouraging that a GM that was sort of like lame duck on arrival.just handed out nearly nine digits. It's encouraging to see for the first time that he's able to do something.Yeah.This whole time he wasn't able to do anything. And then now they finally given him a pass code to get into the building.
24:37I am dying to know how that meeting went.Do you think it's a premium?I don't.No, I think the amount of money. For a 40 goal score.Like last year he had the best season of his career at 27, 85 points, 41 goals.Oh, no.Nobody cared.
24:51Yeah.Nobody cared. This is what you're paying for a 40 goal score in his late 20s.85?I would have never guessed that.I got to be honest with you. It's unreal season.Given what Cutter Goce got and the bonuses in his deal and the way that was structured,
25:05I think the Red Wings did really well here and he gave them a bit of a discount.Yeah.Well, differences Gochay will be like De Brinkette's age now.Yeah.At the end of his deal.My point stands like this is a guy who's already established that he can. They did it once.Right.
25:21Right.These guys done it multiple times.Oh, yeah. That's my thing, right? It's like there is more value, but like I know we always value youth in sports and whatever. But there's actually, you know, the reality is that a person at their peak is actually more valuable than a person on the on the come up.That's why you get paid more.Because you know what that person is and the other one still a guess.
25:38Yes.Well, that's been going around a little bit.Like not to jump ahead and whatever your plan is, but like there's already been like I've, I've seen some grumblings about Coivinen and in Pittsburgh.I've seen some grublings about Zeve Bouillon in Vancouver.Well, that Zeeves swimming?Well, not all of these bets are going to work.No.Or at very least, not right away.
26:01Maybe not in their first year or so.Or first couple weeks, first month.Loonow's anxiety there.Okay, and Anaheim, Loonow.Tristan Loonow, people are like, oh, wow, that guy's...Is that what they say?I think it's Loonau.Yeah.
26:13Lennon.Or Lennon.I thought it's Luneo.I think it is now, yeah.Yeah.That's where...I thought it was Loonau.No, too. It's Lou Now.
26:21Just to be difficult. All right. But you're going to know his name, Stephen. You're like, oh, yeah, that big contract from person.I've never heard of it.Well, that's what it was like when he signed it.Most people had not heard of this guy.I had heard of him.
26:32Because all summer we were like, who the hell is going to play for the ducks? And I was like, well, there's this guy.He played like a few games.Yeah.I think that contract would have been there at the end of the season when you could see whatthis player is.Oh, Jesse would have been $8 million.Oh, yeah.
26:48No, you need to give that now.Well, I think that one works.Just like you did the Leo Carlson deal. You really got ahead of that one.And all of a sudden, you need to get ahead of the Tristan deal.Is it, is it possible?Silly. Is it possible that our friend Pat Verbeek has PTSD?
27:03I think so.Yes.I think so.Or, but hey, the deal seems to be working better than the Zeev Bouillon win is right now.But Zeev Bouillon's also on a horrible team.Like the thing about the Zeev Bouillon thing. And there's even an article in SportsNet about it today.I'm like, okay.
27:18like I get that his numbers are awful.Show me, again, publicly available statsusually reflect the points in the standings.Oh, man, remember Cam Fowler?Like, oh, man, he's so bad. He's awful. No, he was just on the ducksand they traded him and he went on a tear
27:35with St. Louis and they made the playoffs, right?Like, it's, hey, man, that's so crazy.A bad defenseman with terrible numbershappens to play for a team that can't stop a puck.I'm shocked. What advanced numbers are,are supposed to tell you, and this is why you have to pay for the good ones, you're not goingto get them for free. You have to pay for the good ones because the good ones tell you, actually,
27:56this player is good and you're not seeing it because they're on a bad team. That's what they'resupposed to tell you. Not to be so unkin chopped, but like 2012, 2013 hockey Twitter, ugh, you had to be there. It was fun. You had to be there. Like just, like, so many of those guyswork for NHL teams now. Yeah.So many of them. And it was, they were screaming into a void. This is a thing. This is a, ah!
28:26And people were like, no, boo, fart.Mom's basement. And now like a bunch of them have cups.Mom's basement.A bunch of them have cups.Yeah, it's true.Absolutely.And, you know, that's kind of going to be the,
28:39that's going to be the interesting thing I think now in advanced stats part two.Now that they're all hired and accepted, which ones were rightand which ones that actually filter out into the publicthat are available to usactually tend to be rightbecause the thing is, again, sometimes I think with these
28:58some of these advanced tasks guys,I know some of them run subscription servicesand everything like that. And again, that's where you're paying for it.But if you were really that good, you'd be hired. And sometimes it takes a while.Sometimes it takes a while. And they get hired.
29:10Yes.Right?And a lot of them did.Yes.But again, show me somebody.Like, Booiam, I'm just using this as an example.I bet his numbers are ass.Basically, like, everyone's favorite got hired by the damn hurricanes.
29:24Yeah.Yeah.Tolski's doing good.Ah.Hey, Delo's doing good.Uh, hey, who's this kid, Earl Schwartz?Uh.Damn it.
29:34Stop hiring my content.Exactly.We're just going to have to subscribe to one of these.I'll subscribe to the hurricanes.Yeah.No, no.No, like you have to like subscribe to one of the things to get the numbers.bet MGM is an official sports betting partner

30:00and there's also pregame bets, live betsand hilariously last night on our streamthis is a thing Jesse used to doa couple of years agowhen the Leafs actually could come back in gamesand it seems like they're back therebet the comeback.Right, Jesse.
30:15Why did you do that?Because the Leafs always used to come back in games. And whether they'd win or not, I'd take them at like plus one and a half goals. And they usually make it close so you'd win your bet.So yesterday when the lease went down 5'2, the bet was plus 3,000.Wow.And they almost did it.There was three or four people in the chat going, come on, let's go.
30:37That's a tough beat.Yeah, it was crazy. So listen, download the Bet MGMF.Don't miss a second of the opening minutes.BetMGM and official sports betting partnerof the National Hockey League.Terms and Conditions, sorry, betmgm.com for terms and conditions.19 plus to wager, Ontario only.

31:39Are they going to serve blood?I don't know.I don't know.I have to go find out.But be 19 plus for that. But Screamers is probably not recommended for children under 10, so, you know, just play it by ear. Also not recommended for Jesse Blakes who have scary screams in and of themselves.I'm not sure what would be scarier.
31:55Screamers or Jesse scream at screamers.Oh.Your scream is way scarier than that.No.Screamers is open from 7 to 11, Sundays and weekdays and 7 to midnight for a little late night scare.Fridays and Saturdays tickets available at screamers.ca.Costumes and courage, but no masks or weapons, please, obviously.Ha!
32:16Leaves played last night. And let's just be honest about it.Weirdly reffed game, but I wouldn't blame it on one side or the other. It was just weirdly ref for both sides.Like there was a couple of weird makeup calls. But more importantly, the Utah mammoth had a goalie. The Leafs did not.And I will say this.
32:37The first goal, the fourth goal, and the fifth goal cannot go in if you're Anthony Stallers. They cannot go in.And I saw a tweet this morning.I forget who it's from, but it's like going from a Bobrovsky to just a normal guy is really jarring.Dude.Really jarring.Dude.So Bob, they were showing the stats last night, and obviously it's early in the season.
33:02It's ridiculous. So Bob is like one, two, and one.Stollers is two and one.Stollers has an 875 save percentage, which even though he was bad, I would expect to come up, because that's,That's like incredibly bad.Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's early in the season. And he had one good game and two bad ones.
33:19Yeah, and that was his first loss, right?Bob is a 907 with where, and again, very early in the season, but with where safe percentages and shooting percentages are going,a 907's incredible. If he maintains, if he maintains 905 or up,he'll get Vezna votes. The team will make the playoffs.Yeah.
33:43Yeah.They will make the playoffs.I have no doubt of that. They are going to need some backup wins, though.And...Well, they got two.Yeah.Like, I think...
33:53I think putting the whole thing on Stollarslets them off the hook...Or lets the team off the hook a bit.The defense is bad, but I'm just saying...It's horrible. Those three goals can't go in.No, they can't.Especially four and especially five.
34:1040 seconds left. And it just sneaks.under your with the with the shot power of a toddler cough can't go pat that can't go into anNHL net man now he did make an incredible pass to Tavares the next period that's so he hastwo points and then Tavares just fucking fired at home which was amazing two points but uh you knowand and I think you're right we can't just blame it all on the and and I know the head coachis ever going to blame a goalie for anything he he just caught uh Igor ShustraSirkin for goalie scoring.
34:45Oh, he did.Oh, yeah, because they're both at two points. No one is ever going to blame goalies for anything publicly. It just never happens, unless, like, Jared Bednar.Jared Bednar.Which never happens. It is rare. The defense is bad, though.
34:58But we know that.Yeah.Morgan Riley gets torched on the Danil Butt goal, best name in the league.Daniel boo.And then, you know, and again, as you said, the fifth goal is absolutely a dagger.Leaves did make it interesting at the end.Power ranking.Fifth goal is the worst.
35:17Fourth is pretty bad.First is also pretty bad.Willie for Hart always post these fun tweets. So I think you should check this one out.Leifes at five on five through two periods.Okay.Via natural stat trick.Okay.
35:28Scoring chances were 116.High danger scoring chances 5.2.This is all in the Leafs favor.Expected goals a 0.75 to a 0.66.The Leafs had not played bad.Stollers had a negative three gold save above expectation.and a 0.688 save percentage.Basically, when we go to intermission,
35:48it's 15 shots against, and the least are down 5 to,which means one in every three goals is going in,and one in every three shots. You can't win.You can't win like that. That is true.I strongly disagree with the evaluation of,
36:03what was the expected goals of the mammoth?Uh, through point seven,uh,expected 0.75 to, uh, 0.66.No.Okay, so you just don't think that's possible? No.Like, that's dismissal.
36:15I don't think the least played well enough overall as a team to blame the whole loss on the goaltender.Right.I thought like-Their passing was awful.Yeah, and little things like, Steve, you did a good job breaking it down in the LFR.The Ross-Livik play.Like the Ross-Livic play in the face-off dot, like that stuff is unacceptable from your whole team. From a veteran.
36:38Yeah, and the defensive breakdowns are still there.Like you want a save in those situations. But last night, I feel like it was a team.He gave you one.And he did give you a couple. No, no.Like on that play, he makes a save. There's a rebound in part because the forwards are late because the forwards were yapping.
36:57Yeah, he makes a save there and on the one where the five hole was kind of open.Remember that one late in the game where Stollers makes that save?Yes, yes, yes.He made a couple of those saves.Obviously you want those back.I think the loss is on Stollers and on.team defense as like the forwards playingdefense and the defenseman playing defense
37:15overall like I don't think it wasa very crisp game by the late it wasit wasn't it wasn't crispit was winnableand I'm really like last nightin the LFR they're 3 3 and 1 they were1 1 1 on this road tripthis is the new Death Valley by the way
37:31oh just to throw itMcKenna bad gamethe hooking call thatbad hooking call that's youplaying not an HAL levelhockey thinking you're still at university. The second one.Second hook and call at least.
37:45Wasn't there two in that game that were bad? There's the one behind the net and then the one at like center ice.Blugertie.But just a brain.Like I'd like McKenna to do more stuff when he doesn't have the puck that is more likehelping his team win.So I didn't really like that. But I just want to throw that in there.
38:03Like overall the team wasn't crisp.I don't think top to bottom. And then like like okay, I didn't love Roselvic on the three nothing goal.He makes up for it.I didn't like McKenna three.40. He makes up for it.Right. So wasn't a Picasso. The, I mean, the, the great thing about this team is they seem to management seems to be very
38:26aware of what the problem is.They're not in denial like last year. They're not in denial.I mean, I think it's pretty obvious. They're doing 11-7 because they don't believe in their D group and they're basicallyholding live tryouts.I think people thought, by the way, just to jump in on that,I think people are taking the 11-7 as though they don't trust Gru or McEwen.
38:46I don't think it's that at all. That's not it.I think it's they're trying not to put any of these defensemen on the ice too long.Yeah, it's a thing Jim Hiller loves to do more than any other coach in the league. He goes to 11-7.It's a strategy thing.Yeah, it's a strategy probably keeps guys a little bit more fresh. It's also worked.
39:04Yeah, yeah. But so I was talking last night in the LFR about, like we haven't quite had this in some time. It's rare that there's a road trip that basically every team goes onand it's a nightmare for all of them. And that used to be California. You go into California and it's Death Valley. It's Anaheim with Getslaff and Perry and blah and blah and blue.
39:37And it's the Kings with Co.Popatar and Dowdy onward and the sharks with Thornton and Marlowe and Chichu and Pavelski and Burns and Vlasic and,uh,Death Valley used to really be a thing. Now Death Valley is Vegas,Colorado, and I will throw Utah in there. That's an awful road trip.
40:05And three one goal games,no,that's not true. One surprising ass kicking of the reigning president's trophy winners. One shootout loss to Stanley Cup finalists.Yes, he blew with three nothing lead you up.And one goal loss to Utah.Yeah.
40:25I wish they did better than one one and one.I wish they were better than three, three, and one.But at the end of the day, I look at that result.I watch the games and the sky's not falling. The most encouraging thing about last night, all the criticism about their, play is that they were one goal away from winning it.And if a puck sticks on to Jack Rostovic's stick with a second to go, they escape with
40:47a point.Ross,Ben, or Marchengo or Riley is able to do the little kick up to his stick and bat it in.They escape with a point.Like there were so many opportunities for this team to get this thing to overtime. And they almost complete a miraculous comeback despite playing so poorly. You couldn't say that about the last two years of least.I don't think under Craig Barubei, they could play this style of.
41:09hockey where they can play back and forth where it's a high skating game with the Utahmammoth and then be right there to win it.And they don't.It was really, really good to see.It was encouraging stuff. They don't give up, Jesse.No.Yeah.
41:21This team doesn't get down on them.Even when it was 5'2 in the, in the, you know, like before I guess it became 5.2at the end of the second period when it was 4-2, they were moving.Oh, they through the first half of that game, I was like last year's Leafs would be downfour goals. They never would have either down four goals or they would have been hemmed in and just into a shell for the whole game. They would have never been able to skate with that team.No.
41:51Ever.That, man, that's got to be a top five bang for your buck team in the NHL.To watch? To watch. They're fun. It's a derby.I think leave fans need to adjust their expectation.Last night there was a lot of dooming when it was five to.
42:08and I get it because last year was so terrible. And also being a Leafs fan is generally not, you know, yielded great results. But I think...Yeah, but are you going to do this every game?Yeah, well, no, some people do.And they're like, oh, the Leafs look horrible. They're cooked. They're shit. They're trash.
42:20And I'm like, guys, their goalies having a bad game and their defense isn't good.I need people to understand that the 24-25 Leafs and teams before thathad the expectation that not only were they going to break through the first and secondrounds, but they were going to win the Cup.That was the expectation. That is not this year's expectation.this year's expectation is get back to the playoffs. That's it.
42:41And a good team, not an elite team, will have one strong thing, maybe two strong things, and one glaring weakness. When Bobrovsky's a net and the forwards are firing in all cylinders, this is a teamwith good goaltending who can score.Their defense is not good. And it's not good enough. And there's not much they can do about that.I don't think at least for a while in season, if at all.
43:04They remade that bottom six, the penalty kill, which I want to get to.was completely remade this summer, right? They wanted to remake the defense. And it was their, like, one strength last year.Nobody wanted, nobody, like, they got radish, but nobody wanted Riley. They thought Tannav could be healthy.McCabe's been, there's nothing wrong with McCabe's game.Anybody's taking shots at McCabe.
43:23I'm like, you guys just, like, you're just mad. He's fine.OEL's older. And, you know, Stetra Blankinberg, people are like, oh, they might miss a meal, Andre.I'm like, well, he's getting scratched by the blue jackets, so I don't know how much they miss him.I think, I think you have to look at this, is this. This is a multi-year process.Rify got in.
43:41He did.And he looked good.He looked okay.Well, that weird backhand pass and then he fell.Like, that's one bad shift, guys. The rest of it, he was fine.He had a big dump in in the first period.I think it was like four minutes in and stuff.
43:56I clapped at my TV.I said, good job dumping the puck. That's my guy. That was a big moment.Guys, give Marshall Rofi some credit.I just did.He bodied guys out.He boxed.
44:08Yes, he moved him to the side.He did good stuff.I think,I do think,I do think,I think Rify and Blanketburg are actually everyday guys.Blanketberg for sure.I think if that's the thing you're running into playoffs with,
44:21that's,well,they're not a great, they're not an elite team.Yeah, and I think that'll be the issue all season long.Yeah.They're still losing games like this,
44:29even come January.I'd be concerned about this team.Of course.Because this is okay. It's good now. It's encouraging.iron this thing out and fix itbecause you have the makings of something pretty decent
44:42and if you solve those little things,it can be really good.Willie, I have no questions.Matthews.Every question I had is melting away.Marchenko, playing on his offside, you know, people talk about like he's strugglingor he's falling a little below expectations.
45:02He's still finding ways to put up points most nights.Yep.There's a lot, a lot to like about this team. There is.I wish they didn't lose.I think, like you got to, Steve Dangal can't be talking you off a ledge, guys.I don't think that's what you're here to do.No, it's my job to be the irrational one on the ledge.
45:25So, like, yes.So, like, some of the, like, I go, hey, LFR questions. And people are just like, yeah, question. What is this bullshit?I'm like, guys. You're going to lose games. You're going to lose games. It's 84 games.
45:39There's so many games.I hate to say you're going to lose a lot of games.Yeah.This season could go really well and you could lose like 40.Yeah.Or maybe not 40.Well, yeah.30, 35.
45:51I mean, add in shootout losses and overtime losses.Yeah.Yeah.You can make the playoffs and lose like 40 times, guys.Let's chill. So I think the question there, because Adam, you're not encouraged thatThey can solve the D this season entirely.I don't think that they need to be as bad as they are.
46:12I think they're capable of more.Tanev, I don't know what the thing is with him.Like, they're really, apparently wanted to come back in the game and the Leif's medical staff said no.So let's just pretend TANF's not going to be helping.Well, there's been a number of incidents in recent memory where players got hurt significantlyand were allowed to return to the game.Yeah, I understand. So I'm cool with the Leaf's pulling TANF.
46:35Yeah, I'm cool with that.too. I'm just saying if it's without him. With him, I think the picture is a little bit rosier, right? I think we can all agree on that. I think you got to assume no tan. Yeah. So if you assumeno 10 of the rest of the year, again, I can't imagine that the guy that booted Matthias Ekholmoff the Swedish Olympic team is going to have a 35% expected goals every game. I think OliverReckman-Larsons going to figure this out. Remember, this guy was an Olympian. He had a great year on aterrible team last year. And playing11-7, he was on the left
47:06and then he was on the right. Yeah, and I don't think that'sI don't think that's actually helpful. I thinkJim, listen, I know Jim likes to go11-7. I think you've got to letpeople develop some chemistry here. I likesome of the things he's doing. You're not, don't line-blend your defenseagainst the Utah mammoth.
47:24Are you fucking crazy? You got to.That's a great hot team. So you didn'tlike that last night. I didn't like that. No.I didn't like that. I didn't like that. I didn'tlike that at all. You want to do that? You do that against the Islanders on Saturday. No, I'm giving them grace because there was Barubei who wouldn't do anything unless it destroyed the team right out of the gate. Then he's like, sign me up. But no, it's the players that don't have heart. God. And now you've got Hiller who's doing a little too much for my taste. But that's okay. That's okay. This is sort of what we asked for. It's like, hey, can I have a pinch of salt? And they just go,I'm like, wow, wow, well, okay.
48:02Well, I did ask for salt.So I either had to deal with a flavorless dish or one that is, you know, I'm going to need an extra glass of water.People wanted to talk. That's the Jim Hiller experience.People wanted to talk trades and like somebody DM'd me yesterday and they're like, I can't believe you would even consider trading order act diomov.I'm like, no, that wasn't what we were saying. What we were saying was if you want something good, you have to give something good. Also, I am, yes, that is me.
48:26I am willing to trade him would do it tomorrow if it made the team better. They don't have chips. That's a chip. They don't have many chips.Put it on the table.Tingis Pinguis too. There's Tengas Pinguish. There's just not a lot.
48:40Yeah.And you know, it's funny.I was saying this on this stream.I don't know, but you guys, like the Leafs drafted 10 times at the draft this year. And it's funny, when you hit the draft and the picks are actually made,it, for like the first 18 months, they all lose value. And everybody forgets, oh, well, they drafted this guy in the second round.
48:58Like, Balecki.Nobody's ever brought.that guy up, but apparently, like, Rangers fans are like just chomping at the bed for this guy thisseason. Kitchener.Oh, sorry, yeah, Kitchener Rangers guys. Remember, they won last year and he played a limited role, but he was awesome in the limited role. You know, the, the, the, I think what the TorontoMaple Leafs are going to do, what they did do was they said, we're going to draft 10 frigginguys and most of them are going to be in the first three rounds, which they were, right?
49:24You had the first, the second, and four thirds, I think. Jesse, we were there for the least forthe thirds.Yeah, we saw a lot ofToronto draft. And if they hit on a few of them, great, they're not going to hit on all of them. But when you have a draft like that, which is like a bumper crop,
49:38I think that you can start to spend picksa little bit more throughout the season. And that, that, you know who's done a really good jobwith late round picks is the Vegas Golden Knights? They've acquired guys with late round first round picksbecause all their first round picks are late roundbecause they're always at the top of their divisionwith a couple notable exceptions in their entire history.
49:57And those plays.players might turn into something, they might not.But actually that Colorado first around the trade deadlines can be worth a lot.And you could probably get good players. And this idea, like, I know, I think it was somebody throughout Peg.I think it was Pegnaut, throughout like Zach White Cloud or whatever.I'm like, none of those names that have been thrown out there get me excited.I don't think the Leafs are looking for guy that can just be a player now.
50:21I think if you're going to make a move, like if you're going to trade a Ben Danford,to me, you're trading Ben Danford for the guy that you're hoping Ben Danford.for the guy that you're hoping Ben Danford becomes.I have...Who has already established himself as Ben Danford.I have virtually no appetite for trading that player.I agree with you, but that's what it has to be, right? So if we have to go through this season with defense that looks mediocre and maybe Ben Danford
50:42freaking plays, he's injured right now like minor injury.Yeah.But when he gets healthy, maybe they put him in, try him out.Like this is a season for we are not...Yes, I would love to win the cup. This team's not going to win the cup.But they're going to be great and fun.We talked about Detroit in the early 2010s and the falloff.
51:03And that was an elite team that won the Cubs, went to back to back, standing the Cup finals. But they mortgaged the future for so long that it eventually caught up with them.Well, there was the Leafs who mortgaged the future for also a very long time, but we're not at that level.Yeah.
51:19And it's caught up with them a little bit.Like, maybe you can't do this every frigging year.I just think that you can't,expect a team coming from eighth in the divisionwho had the first overall pickto snap back into we're going to win a Stanley Cupthe next year. It just is very difficult
51:37unless you're irresponsible with your spending. And I thinkwhy not get back in the playoffs? Let's get Matthews and Willie to 50 goals.Let's get each. You know, and I know people are like, well,Brovsky's window. I know, but he's 38 and he's still good. Sokeep going. And maybe Ahtiomov is able to kind of step intowards the later end of that contract,it has to be a processand you're not going to solve it in a few weeks.
52:00You're just not.Not possible. No, I mean. And unless Zach Wrenski is a leave tomorrowbecause John Chica pulled off a miracle.Like, I don't know. They look like an average normal NHL teamand their record reflects that.
52:13And that is more than we could have asked for.Yeah.And like you said, you know, when the forwards are firing on all cylinders. They have been.Four straight games?Right? There was, the first three games were, I thought they were firing on all cylinders.
52:27It just didn't go in.And we said they're eventually going in and they have.Matthews and Millie each have 12 points in however many games they played.Matthews was player of the week in the NHL last week and got two points immediately last night.McKenna's got a three game point streak going.Oh, four game.Oh, yeah, there we go.You know, like they've got even scoring throughout the lineup too.
52:53You know, I know Matthews and Willie are sort of the highlights, but there's guys that are just under a point of game and like four of them, five of them.Roselvix helped.Marchenko has disappointed and he still helped.Paul has contributed.I really like Radish, even though the offense isn't quite there. He had a really nice assist last night. He draws people, Radish does.Tavares, man, he looked good coming.
53:17Oh, my God.Great game.So there was a really funny exchange.Jake B. Leaves online talking about Tafar's first goal.Yeah.Against Nashville.Remember, he's just flying up the left and he shoots it.And they're like, yeah, well, that's not a high danger scoring chance.
53:35And he's like, it's John Tavares. He scored like 30 goals that way as a Leaf.So it absolutely is a high danger scoring chance. And then he did it again.Yeah.I think people don't expect that from him.I don't know why.Maybe because he's not fast.
53:47Well, maybe they don't own a television.Like, he's been doing this since 2009.What are we talking about?Like the guy, you know, for, you know, the faults in his game that are going to show up with age, he can still absolutely rip it.Like Spetsa was like that too. There were certain things you just didn't expect of him anymore. But if you gave him a lane, he was going to kill you.And then he did.
54:10Right?Tavares with two power play points on unit one is objectively very funny.Well, especially the discourse.Well, people were really mad at us for saying that maybe he shouldn't be on power.Power Play one. Like we put out a clip and the comments wereYeah, and then people were mad when he got put back on it.And then he got on it and had two points. So great. Good for him.Yeah. Anyway, this is, this will be a fun team.
54:34You know, and the one thing that I love about them is they are not out of it ever. They're just not out of it. So we're good with that. Now, I want to ask you guys aboutWho starts against Buffalo? Oh, it's Bobrovsky. And then who starts on the weekend?Stollers. Solars.Okay. That's your bet. And you know why? Sharks is Bob.You know why you do that?Because then you don't have to play Stollers for a week. But you have to play him to let him figure it out.
54:56The Leafs have done this to the Islanders dating back to the days of Michael Hutchinson. The Islanders don't score.Matias Manchelli Hattrick incoming.Stoller's already, we have to be.I'm going to hear about it.Stollers already beat the Islanders 2-1.Where are we talking about?Yeah, you're right.
55:11We have our second Islanders at home game this year?Uh-huh.That's so strange. The way we drew it up.So you're going.Bob Stollers, Bob Stollers, because the back-to-back is Sharks Columbus. It's not, you don't have a player for a week. And then I probably go Bob Bob.
55:33Especially because the Rangers are good and the Emmonson's good.Bob, Bob, give Stollers Calgary. And then probably Bob and Bob.So we're still doing one, one, one, one.I think the season starts that way and it's going to frustrate people and they're going tohate it and thenwe go intoBob gets the net.
55:56What?Probably, like, here,go to November.Like, Bob is going to play the majorityof the games in October. And then, yeah, like, look at thishomestand.Like, Bob should play
56:08almost all of those games. Why wouldn't he?Because the Leafs havesome sort of plan herethat I don't think is very clearto everybody else. So, like, okay,so they,
56:20Play Halloween, I think, right?Yeah.Which sucks because I'm going to be streaming. But they, so they play Halloween. And then here, go to November.Yeah.So Halloween after a two-day break, two-day break, game against Utah, three-day break.Montreal, New Jersey, you probably give Stoller's New Jersey because it's a back-to-back.
56:41Yeah.And then, like, when's your next back-to-back?It's at the end of the month.Yeah, no, November is the month of Bob.He's going to play a lot.I think you have too much optimism.Really?Yeah.
56:56I think this one,we're trading off games thing lasts for a little bit here. He's apparently, did he not Jesse sit down with management?I thought it was reported that he sat down with managementand they've already got this all planned out.Yeah, they game planned.Yeah.
57:10He wants Stollers to play a lot.Bob does.Look at October.Like,I know market value for Bob,or done, Bob,Stollers right now.is very low and people are very mad.
57:22He'll figure it out.Buffalo, high-octane team.Who should be playing that game?Bob.Bob. Islanders, they don't score!Who should be playing that game?Stollars. Stollars.Sharks, what do they do best?
57:36Scoreicles.Bob.Blue jackets. How are they doing? Not great, especially what Rick Pona has said last night.Stollers, you get a day off, then you go home.Who's playing that game against Rangers?Rangers are good this year.Bob.
57:49day offgo on the road to Edmontonit's friggin' Edmonton who you startingobviously Bob I think so like a game like thisI'd see I could see Stoller starting this gamethat I'd be upset about it because it'd beBob Bob Bob and that'd be three starts in a weekI can see them going two and two
58:08no Bob no it's four games in a week so Bob Stoller's BobStoller's Calgary is athat's a layupyeah and then Seattle's actually been prettyI'd give that to Bob.And then you could give Stollers the Vancouver game because they struggle.I think that that would be the test right there. If Stollers or Bob gets that Edmonton game.
58:30Can I also say that?I don't think what I said is unreasonable at all.No, no.Hey, hey, hey.Why do you both against me?No one said that. Why are you bringing up my downfall?I think we're all on board.
58:41But who's talking to you when we're talking to, when you're talking to yourself. The internet's talking to your head. The internet yelling at you.The internet's followed him everywhere. It's in his walls. But I do want to say. What? What's so funny?
58:57Funny how? What?Steve's turned into Russell Crow from South Park.Just fight around. You know what I like to do when discussing goal he starts?Fighting.Anyway.So, okay, okay.
59:14So, listen, Stollers was really good against the Islanders. We forget that.Really, really good.Steve's going to punch me.Really, really good.Bad against Nashville, not good in the first two periods against Utah.Although I'll give him the third. He was good in the third period.
59:30Sure.Shut the door.Sure.After not shutting the door.But he did.Yes.Great assist to Varus.Okay.
59:37I know Anthony Stollers is better than that. After three games, I know that we have not seen the best of Anthony Stollers.Just like after six or seven games, I know we haven't seen the best of OliverRekman-Larsson.I know that we hadn't seen the best of Chris Tanniv. And Jake McCabe, because I said to this, I said this last week, they were given the way.Pucks like it was Christmas Day.Yeah.
59:55It will take time.It will take time.Be patient. These guys can be really good. And I think Stollers can actually be very, very good when he's locked in.And he's not locked in yet.And you need to play him so he can lock it.Yeah.
01:00:07You need to get his confidence back up.And you know who's destroyed his confidence last year? This fucking team. This most of this defense score, actually.Give him some time. It'll be okay. And he was bad.I would love.
01:00:19to know how many of these games I end up being right about.Should we have a dangle tracker?99% of them.Yeah.I feel like I can navigate the schedule for the rest of the season, assuming everyone stays healthy and be mostly right.Yeah.Because I don't think it's,
01:00:35like there's not a lot of wiggle room. It's not rocket. And what you're saying is just on the one-offs here or there,if they make a switch and we're like,oh, Stollers didn't have a bad, had a bad game that day.and like Bob should have started, does that cost you a couple points in the standings?Right. And I don't think anybody's really upset with the plan you laid out.
01:00:56I think that's probably the plan. It's just if they go in one of these other directions on like a night, like last night, where you're like if Bob's in there, maybe you get a point. That's very valid.Yeah.It's very valid.I think that's the whole point.I think what they probably do is they, I would love to go back and do a retrospective
01:01:15of how Florida maps.it out when these two were a tandem.I think as the season goes, they're going to ramp up Bob starts.Maybe slower down if they're in a playoff spot.If they're fighting for points every night, you're not going to be able to slow it down. And then you ideally hit the playoffs,
01:01:37you hit the ground running. But you've got to get there.Yep.And you can't be getting there by dropping points. So I understand that, but...Don't...He's...It's Bob.
01:01:48It's Bob.Look at his career. He's going to play 50 games this season, minimum.I have no doubt. And they'll be fine.It will be fine. They're box office. No matter what, you can't miss a period.
01:02:02Finally.The one thing we know about running a business is that it's hard, especially if you have to be there hands-on face-to-face with the clientand actually fixing things or building things or creating things. And that's where House Call Pro comes in.Because, you know, you can be talking to a client.and they could be really nice, but they could be having a really long story
01:02:20that you're not particularly interested in.You know you've got to get to work. And what's worse is there's like paperwork back at the office, pay, well, things, a whole bunch of things that House Call Prodoes for you.All right, House Call Pro helps HVAC plumbing, electrical, and other home service businesses stay organized, keeping you with the customers so you can win more jobs.
01:02:41So instead of trying to run the business through calls, text, paperwork, spreadsheets, whatever, you can miss fewer opportunities.Scheduling is easier.Communication is easier.Estimates and invoices and payments are simpler. And here's the crazy part.I love this stat.On average, pros grow their monthly revenue through House Call Pro by more than 35% in their first year.
01:03:01That's so many percent. That's a lot of percent. That's a lot of percent. When leads get followed through with, customers stay informed and fewer opportunities fall through.Get ready to save time and win more jobs. For a limited time, our listeners get 50 percent off base plans for the first three months.when you call housecallpro.com slash sDP.That's housecallpro.com slash sDP 50% off.
01:03:24And after you sign up, they're going to ask you, hey, where'd you hear about us?Say it was the Steve Dangle podcast.Screamers is back at Assembly Park in Vaughn from October 9th to 31st,located at 80 interchangeway in Vaughn this year.Features seven haunted attractions,120 plus live actors who are not going to feel like actorsare going to feel like real goo.
01:03:43And rides and entertainment too now new this year atdisassembly park. Oh my goodness, they're going to take my limbs. An outdoor scare zone where thescares continue between the haunted houses and you do not have to be 19 plus to enter screamers. There is 19 plus licensed vampire lounges, you know. Are they going to serve blood? I don't know.I don't know. I have to go find out, but be 19 plus for that. Screamers is probably notrecommended for children under 10, so, you know, just play it by ear. Also not recommended for JesseBlakes who have scary screams in and of themselves. I'm not sure what would be scarier.Screamers or Jesse scream at screamers.
01:04:18Oh.Your scream is way scarier than that.No.Screamers is open from 7 to 11,Sundays and weekdays and 7 to midnight for a little late night scare.Fridays and Saturdays tickets available at screamers.com.Costumes encouraged, but no masks or weapons, please, obviously.Yeah.
01:04:36The Edmonton Oilers are an far more advanced version of the Toronto Maple Leafsin the sense that in the past, first off, their scoring has always been more leech.Yes.Strysidal McDavid.Yes.Right?Except for that one year
01:04:48where Matthews had almost 70 goals, that was pretty cool. That was,I like that. But the Oilers in their last four gameshave not allowed more than two goalsin any one of those games, and it only happened once.
01:05:00Now,I know that the two goals that is,and I think that was Seattle,I know that L.A. can't score.L.A. are terrible. And there's a reason.I already don't like my pick from that show.I had them in fifth,
01:05:12and I hate it in their division.I,the lead in on the show, for me was it seemed like Ken Holland's strategywas to surround himself with people his own age on this team. And they are old and they are slow. And then what do they do?Bring in Peter Laviolet.
01:05:27Who also doesn't like goals.Does this team miss Jim Hiller?Desperately. In comparison to how both teams are playing, they could use Jim Hiller. But I have to say this. The Oilers also gave up a bazillion goalsthat Canucks who can't score anymore.
01:05:44First week. But they have figured.it out. And the Edmonton Oilers, listen, people were at me on Twitter a little bit becauseI think I retweeted NHL Watcher or something and I said the Oilers are like one good goal tenderaway from being the most dominant force in this league, even with the injuries. And that isthe most benign, obvious hockey opinion you could possibly have. And he wrote me back and thisis after the Vancouver game so he can be not faulted for this. He wrote me back and he's like,NHL Watcher, whoever that is. It's one of the aggregator accounts and has a lot of followers and
01:06:15stuff. And he said, does anyone think he actually believes this? And I wrote back to him and I said,I absolutely believe this. This team is fucking unbelievable. The majority of NHL fans believe that.I don't know that they do, Steve. I think the majority of the fans. That if the oilers had a goalie.I don't, I don't know that they do. I think there were people that have some doubts about theoilers still, which is kind of surprising. But this is pre-Evend if the cowardly lion only had aheart. If Scarecrow only had a brain? I think there were a lot of questions.about the oilers going into this season. There were. There were. That's fair.
01:06:49What was Tin Man missing? He'd creaky joints. I know that.He could courage? No, that was the line.I forget. But this is what I'm saying.Scarecrow was able to identify if I only had a brain. And most hockey fans are like if the Oilers only had a goalie
01:07:07and that's quickly becoming Devin Levi.Yes. Seems like a good pickup.Uh-oh. That could, listen.Let's not get ahead of ourselves. No, let's get ahead of ourselves. But it could be an all-timer.Because let's remember what we thought Devin Levi was going to be.Right?
01:07:26Well, we thought he was going to be great. We thought he was going to be an absolute stud.It fell apart miserably in Rochester is actually where it fell apart. And the Sabres also gave him.I'm looking at his stats from Rochester. They're pretty good. No, his coach was like going at him and he wasn't getting. He had a 919 save percentage at 24, 25, and a 904 last year.
01:07:49Yeah, 904 last year is they're like wiring to the 919 from the year before.Watch, there's clips where he's like, we need him to be better, which, you know, a coach can challenge a goalie, whatever. The Sabres yo-yoed him and they put him in way too early behind a team that was way too bad.He didn't play an NHL game last year, not one.Exactly.He really fell out of favor. And in four games this year, and all we have is what we can go on.He has four wins.
01:08:16Zero losses, 903 save percentage. There's not a bad stat there.A save percentage north of 900 these days is just hard to come by.League safe percentage is 891.Whoa.So far this season.Yeah, and I would expect that to probably go up a little, just because it's the beginning of the season.
01:08:37But the fact that he's well above that should be very encouraging for the Oilers. There's a reason that they got him for like a frigginhandful of lint. The sabers were going to lose them on waivers. They were going to lose them on waivers. They were going to send him down and he could be claimed so they retained an asset. It was like a third and a fourth?Compare and contrast that with Tristan Jari.
01:09:03Now this may not be fair, but he has played two games.346 goals against average, 837.Save percentage. And by the way, last year with the Oilers in 19 games, he had an 8.58.So it's somewhat in line with his numbers there.I spoke to someone last night who knows a fair bit about goaltending. And they had some pretty interesting thoughts about Tristan Jari.He likes to try to help out his decor.
01:09:31And he does a lot of things that prevent shots from happening. And so when the shots actually happen, he gets killed on save percentage.I thought that was an interesting thoughtand then I was likeyeah but there's also footage of the goals he allowsand they a lot of them lookI'm tired of the Tristan Jari Apologistsno we're done here.
01:09:58I understood it I thought it was an intelligent pointbut like listen it'sthis is not the plan though obviouslythe plan is once Freddie gets backI assume it's Freddy's netbut what if Levi becomes the guyIt's ready's net for a game or twoUntil he gets hurt again
01:10:16That's the problemHe played like 20 gamesDuring the regular season last yearI know he had a good run in the playoffsBut he played 20 gamesWell Levi's gonna have to play a lotThe OS jarringThe Oilers aren't afraid to switch goalies mid-playoff run
01:10:28No they're notWhat if they I meanLet's stop pretendingThey're getting thereWhat if Freddy startsAnd if he falters it's LeviThis could be a really good trade for themAbsolutely
01:10:40And the team looks goodGrady on D.Defense.I mean, Bouchard going for the Art Ross is so funny. But he's going to lose to his teammate,McDavid, who's on pace for 250 points?17 points in six games. That's silly.
01:10:57You shouldn't be allowed to take him in fantasy.Bouchard has.Who has him?Bouchard is still leading the team in goals with six,but he has 14 points in six games.Leon Drysidal with a measly 11 points in six.Vasily Pod Colson, who I just picked up on waivers. He's incredible.
01:11:16Feel pretty good about that one. He's got nine points.I think he's got like a four-game goal streak. And a bazillion hits. The play McDavid made last night at the line where he caught it,I didn't know that was legal.I didn't know you could just carry the puck with your hand over the blue line.I don't think it is.
01:11:32But everybody saw it in the building was like, yeah, that's fine.So I think it is legal, else they would have whistled it down or challenged it.I know. That was a really cool play.I know he's incredibly fast.He covers way too much ice with the puck in his hand for me to be comfortable with it.No, apparently it's legal to carry the puck with your hand over the blue line.
01:11:57To me, the blue line has nothing to do with it.It's just like put the puck down.Right.You can't just bring it to the net and then place it and then score.I don't know if he closes his hands on it.It's allowed to be in your palm and you place it down.Totally.Like, he covers at least a third of the defensive zone.
01:12:15It's like a basketball where he do like a Euro step.Kind of.You know, he did a Euro step with the puck.Which is amazing. And it's not like, like, what are the oilers going to start doing this?Like, oh, we crack the code.Like, no, I think it was just one of those things. The set play you're going to see for the next 10 years of Oilers hockey.
01:12:34I understand why the Kings are upset about it.Totally.Well, they should have challenged it if it was challengeable and it was illegal. You challenge it for all.offside.No,that's the thing.I don't think it would have been
01:12:44off side.I think theirargument was,dude,he's carrying the puckin his hand.That's fair.With the,
01:12:51with the goal tending thing,we had talked about this, what was it,when they blew that gameand they, they jari allowed all those goals.I still don't believethat Stan Bowman is just,
01:13:00like,figured this out.Like,I still have,um,I'm really skeptical of that,like,oh,
01:13:06Stan Bowman did it.Like, congrats to him.Because that's the thinghe's had to solve this entire time. But what makes me think I'm going to be totally wrong about this and they're going to win the Stanley Cup is that they've started well, which isn't something the Oilers ever do.If you remember last year on November 30th, they were 11, 10, and 5 in their first 26 games, 23rd in the standings, below 600 points percentage. And that's how they've kind of started every single year, the last couple of years.
01:13:36It's slow start Oilers. And then from like January, late December through the end of the season, they're the greatest team in hockey. And they go on their crazy win streak every single winter.Except last year that didn't really happen. They never quite got going, but they didn't have to because of the pillow fight division. That was not.You said 23rd and I'm like, I don't think they finished much higher than that.Yeah.
01:13:57And then what happened in the playoffs?Well, they lost.Yeah.Like, this isn't a team that is coming off a conference final birth. This is a first round exit team.Stanley Cup final birth. That's the reality of this team.So this year, the fact that they are currently undefeated,
01:14:16despite the terrible jarring numbers you just read out at them, they still haven't lost a game in regulation time. That's like scary for the rest of the NHL.A good start oilers, and then they're just going to get better this whole season. It might be President's trophy here. This might be the year they do the President's trophy thing. And Vegas is off to a very,
01:14:36hot start too. I think the pillowfight's over. I think these guys arefilling up socks with rocks.Edmondson's second in the division. That'sbecause they've played two last games, but stillVegas. You know what? When isthe next Vegas Edmondson game? Can we find that?Let's find that up. They should all be national.
01:14:53All of them. No, it'll be onit'll be on sports net, uh, sports net expensive. That's the new channel. It'll be on the weather network in the window that usuallyNovember. You wouldn't watch it anyways. You just complainabout the out of the market. It's not on my five box. It's not in my five.I have a life.
01:15:10It is.I have a life.Don't make me fight.You're talking about.November 20.It's actually, Jesse does have a point.This is conniervee.This is,
01:15:19I think this is your life.Don't make me fight for it.November 20,you kind of have to fight for your career. It's your job.No, I refuse.I refuse.I can,
01:15:25no.I can just sit here.Yo, I honestly think we should be streamingthe November 24th game between the Oilers and Golden Nights.Like, I know we do Leaf games during the season, but like, this is going to be box office shit.man. I can't believe they're not playingfor another month. Because it's November 24th.
01:15:40It's Jan 20th and it's February 3rd.They should rig the schedule so they play 12 times.I know. That'll be fun.Yeah. Yeah. It's too bad. It's not torts too because it'd betorts versus babs. That'd be fun.I'm very happy John Tortorella isn'tinvolved in anything. Oh, I know.
01:15:55You know what's? I don't. It's too bad.I'm very happy. It's not terrorists, actually.Jesse's right. He's, we, go away.We establishes.When torts is gone, we've forgotten.we forget how boring he isYeah he's fineHe's boring
01:16:08No I guess I just felt like that would be a good storylineBut you're rightOh noAnd then what?We got a puff pieceI mean like man he likes dogsOh man tortsHe likes the color yellow
01:16:18It's crazyYou should check itI don't need thatI just once I'm like a reporterTo be likeJohn what do you have to say about tonight's gameSomething crotchety I betAnd just get into a fist fight
01:16:30YeahLike I don't knowWhy notAnd then he's gonna say somethingCrotchety backYeahAnd then it'll be a 30 secondPress conference.
01:16:35Then you get your clip, though. At least you get your clip at that point.Totally.Right?You get your engagement.Oh, I don't think so.You don't think you lose your credentials to that.Something crotchety, I bet.
01:16:45Jesse, try that with Hillary. No, no, she can't say that.Something.No, not what the thing is reality.Yeah.Would you actually lose your credits for that? Can you do that?I think that's a crossing online.
01:16:57I've seen, listen, I've heard stories about reporters doing way worse than that andand not losing their credentials. Are those respected reporters?Mm.You're right. You're right.Well, fine. We need somebody who doesn't care about their reputation to do that.Next time, Torts is in the league. And he will be. You know he's coming back.Somebody's going to get desperate and hiring.
01:17:15There was. There's a clip. Parents who are listening, get ready. Okay. There's a clip. Do you remember the YouTube comedy group Bratz and Baratson, Beretta?Yeah, yeah, yeah.So they got onto a red carpet somewhere somehow. And they, I guess, had no other idea other than, and we're going to get this clip. And this is when Colin Farrell was like a really, really big, like, A-list Hollywood actor. And they just go, Colin, how the fuck are you?
01:17:52I like that. And I'm positive they were never allowed back to anything ever again, but they had that clip.Someone's got to do that with torts.Yeah, yeah.Last thing on the Oilers and is the King's thing.underratedly, the Kings have not won a game yet.Everybody is screaming about Philly and then Calgary picks up their first win.The Kings are bad.
01:18:14Yes.They're 0, 3 and 2.Can I ask you guys this? When's quitting Bifield going to break out?I think we've already stopped.Well, okay. It's like it's a little bit Lafranier-ish in the conversation, but he's looked good this year. They did go one too.
01:18:31So follow-up question to your question.because I saw someone go,what does Kempe make $11 million?Has anyone scored?No.Anyone?I'm looking at...Bueller?
01:18:46Nobody.Actually, let's look at the...When I was looking at the score,I think when the Oilers made it 3-0,Kemper had faced, I want to say six shots.Oh, this is awful.Dude, it's sold.So the team leader in goals is who?
01:19:03Laferrier.No. He has one goal and he's tied with basically the rest of the team who all have one goal.Trevor Moore.Nope.He's highly paid and should be the leader in goals.Panarin?Panarin.He has.
01:19:17So remember I was telling you McDavid has what 19 points in six games or seven or whatever it is?Even Matthews and Nealander 12 points apiece.Very good. The highest point getter on the Kings is Panarin with four.I was going to guess four.In five games.Yeah, man.Terrible.
01:19:32And Brant Clark is second. And then it's like Eric Hala.Eric Halla? All the famer.26.Listen, no disrespect to Eric Hala. He's had a great career, but you should not be third on your team and scoring.Dude, that's the oldest team in the history of the world.
01:19:46I know.That forward group is holy ancient.By the way, it's weird to me.Is not a lot signed for $3.5 million?I didn't realize that.Yeah, it was nothing.I miss him.Dude.
01:19:59He had that flinch thing yesterday, which was cool.I love him. That's fun. It's a shame that that relationship got shadowed.with the least. I think he'd be, you know, I like Sizzins and Bluger. He would have been good inplace of one of the two of them too. You got a 41 year old in your top six with Hala, who's 35 and Lafairier.Trevor Moore is 31. We're all going to die. Lotton's 32. Armia's 33. You have an all 30sthird line. Hey, look at their goal. He's 36 and 33. I question. Darcy Kemper's what? He's 30. 36.
01:20:31Yeah.If you gave me 10 guesses, I wouldn't have landed on that.Drew Dowdy, you're 8 of 8.He's aged very well.He has.Kemper, I mean.Oh.No, Dowdy's, no.
01:20:45What?He's not as good as he was.No, he's been 36 for a number of years. If I'm going to say there's a guy that shouldn't have been on the Olympic team and Evan Bouchard should have, it was Drew Dowdy.I think enough times past we can look at that and go, what were they thinking?Yeah, I think that was a legacy pick and they should have done it.Like, Marshan made sense because he was still very effective despite.being injured.
01:21:02Him and arguably Paraco.Paraco played a role, though. He did.He did. That's why I did the.So, Doughty for me, he's the captain. It's his revenant season. It's his sort of revenant captaincy because it feels like he's been the captain, but he never was.
01:21:18Do you think he gets traded this year if this continues? And you see Drew Doughty playing for another team, but he's just a king.No.I think we got a Crosby situation. There it is.He's going out with the ship. It's thinking and he's staying on it.They picked him 2008.
01:21:34Yeah.Second overall 2008.The last non-L.A. King's teamDrew Doughty played for was the Guelph Storm.That's silly.Like he's there.Yeah.He's there forever.
01:21:51Forslings in his 30s?How is this team so friggin old?I told you this. That's what Ken Holland's like,I need to be able to relate to these people.Who's Gustafson?Who's Gustafs? That's Eric Gustafs.
01:22:07Is that Eric Gustafson?Yeah, top line to you, sir. What?Man, the rebuild is like the...The rebuild in LA is going to be horrible. That was so genuine. That's hilarious. No, I'm genuine.
01:22:21That's the same Eric Gustafsson I'm thinking of.Yes.Oh, my God.Oh.I don't know where I put them, but I put too high.I think you guys both have.I had them fifth. And I had them like fourth.
01:22:35Oops.I had them in a wildcard spot. They're bad.Oops.Yeah.Sorry.I think you guys had fifth and under and I had fourth and over.Okay.
01:22:44Good on me for the under.Yeah.Oh my God.Yeah.They're poorly run.I don't know.Listen, whatever Rob Blake and Luke Robitai were doing,
01:22:54I know it didn't go over well.Whatever Ken Holland is doing has gone worse. What are we doing?Oh.I last show I said they were going to get it back on track.Shut up, stupid.I'm going to go leave a hate comment against myself. What are you mean?
01:23:11The Kings you said?Yeah, because we were talking about who's out of the bottom 10 teams, who's most likely to get it back on track. And I was like, L.A.Because it's a boring answer.Right.Yeah, and now I'm like not L.A.Because I previously said the wrong answer.
01:23:26Holy.I'm glad to pick the Oilers to win the division, though.I am the only one here.Yeah, you could have, you could have.Yeah.That's not a bad pick.I could have done worse. That's pretty good.
01:23:35Ducks are going to be fine, by the way. They're going to come third in that division.I believe. They're box office too.Buddy, they're such a fun team to watch.Oh, I love the ducks.Screamers is back at Assembly Park in Vaughn from October 9th to 31st,located at 80 Interchange Way in Vaugh in this year.
01:23:50Features 7 haunted attractions,120 plus live actors who are not going to feel like actors are going to feel like real goo.And rides and entertainment too now new this year at Disassembly.Oh my goodness, they're going to take my limbs. An outdoor scare zone where the scares continue between the haunted houses and you do not have to be 19 plus to enter screamers. There is 19 plus licensed vampire lounges, you know. Are they going to serve blood?I don't know.
01:24:18I don't know.I have to go find out, but be 19 plus for that.Screamers is probably not recommended for children under 10, so, you know, just play it by ear. Also not recommended for Jesse Blake's who have scary screams in and of themselves.I'm not sure what would be scarier.Screamers or Jesse scream at screamers.Oh.Your scream is way scarier than that.
01:24:37No.Screamers is open from 7 to 11,Sundays and weekdays and 7 to midnight for a little late night scare.Fridays and Saturdays.Tickets available at screamers.Dot Cautsia.Costumes and courage, but no masks or weapons,
01:24:49please, obviously.Yeah.Okay.Brady and Matthew, finally playing together.Absolutely lighted up.And guess who has both of them on his fantasy teambut got so mad at Brady Kachuk yesterday that I benched him?
01:25:00So I got the Matthew points, but I didn't get the Brady points.Damn it.Anyway.If you're going to put in one, you have to put in both.Yeah, what are you doing?Well, because I thought, okay, so what did I do?Who'd you put in instead?Okay, let me just pull this up here.
01:25:14This is what I need to know.Because Brady was sinking me.And you know who else I pulled?Robert Thomas, who was a minus on the whole season and finally put up some points yesterday. The plus minus category is killing me.I put Podkoulson in for Kichuk. So I didn't feel so bad about that.Who are all your wingers?
01:25:32My wingers are, okay, you know who I should have had in?So I put McCann in for Tavarice.Jared, Jared.Jared McCann's had a good year.He has seven points.Okay.Because Seattle's actually better than you think. You hate the least, got it.
01:25:45Yeah.So I've got on the wing, Kachuk, Cowan, Wilson, Roberts.Easton, Cowan?Who has five points.Brady Kachuk had zero points.Oh, Adam, that's emotional.Adam, that's emotional.Zero points through six games, that's emotional.
01:26:02That's, that's, like, what am I supposed to do?Yeah, but you dress Matthew.Logically, like, if you truly don't believe in Brady, you've got to take Matthew. No, I always believe in Matthew.Matthew, unfortunately. But they're playing together.Never not is never not.It is never good.
01:26:16Never not good.Brady also had one point, right?Yeah.Wait, what am I doing?I'm competing against you.He was ass.Keep doing it.Now, what I shouldn't have done, one guy I should not have believed in and ever drafted.
01:26:26Luke Hughes, what the hell, dude? What's going on there? You thought they were dueBut he wasI sat himRobert Thomas had a point yesterdayAnd has had a pointHas two points this season
01:26:40FartBut Tavaris had a goal and assistI sat himBrady had three goalsI sat himYeahRunning down your whole fantasyNo you're gonna hear it on
01:26:50Brady on MondayHe gets that one pointHe's through the legsReally niceYeah on the power play thereAnd then last nightBreakthroughYou know is there something
01:26:58mentally where it's like, okay, I got the first point, now I'm all settled, or do we thinkthat like this was always going to happen? Yeah, I think he's going to be fine. It has to get to you.Like there's no way he doesn't know he's off to a horrible start. But, you know, it's thePanthers and he's got his brother. And it also does, what are they going to do pale?Doesn't hurt that Barkov got hurt. And of course, that's going to throw your, anytime yournumber one center gets hurt, it's going to throw your whole line out of alignment. And Marchand's hurt too.Did Paul Maurice overthink it by not starting the Kachucks together? All three, his natural hat trick, on all of them, all assists by Matthew.
01:27:39He made a joke. What are you thinking? He made a joke in the preseason where he's like, yeah, I can't play the Kachucks with Sam Bennett. They'll all be in prison. That's why you got them.Or the lamp is lighting red.Yes.Like, who cares?
01:27:54Yeah, there will be plenty of red lights before. For the red and blue lights.Right.Or whatever cars are in Florida. You get the other lights too. It's fine.Yeah.No.
01:28:05You play those, do the most obvious thing in human history and play those three together.Yeah.And also, like, isn't that why you acquired them?Yes.To have them in the penalty box, but then to also score goals. And then everybody's upset because they're like, how could we handle this?I mean, they don't have to be in the penalty box the whole time. They could simply be three Olympians running through you and lighting it up.
01:28:27It's so silly.Yeah, no.Like, why? They should just run this forever now.Or like, okay, forget the Bennett aspect of it.Why else, like, you have the Kichucks.Stop it.Yeah.
01:28:38Play them together. This is, he, he lied to Ottawa for decades. And then now he's in Florida. He doesn't get to do what he wanted the whole time.Every time. His dad went on a podcast and skewered his goalie for no reason. So they didn't get to play together. How many, who did anyone ever break up the Siddines?
01:28:57and was it John Tortorella? And if so, boo and tomato, every time I look at the Capitals lineupand the Protest brothers aren't playing together,I'm screaming boo at the screen.Play the brothers.Sometimes coaches need to feel like they're in controlso they do the wrong thing just to say,
01:29:13but it's still my choice and you better watch out.Stop it!It's like this is why we're here.Yeah.Yeah, we don't like,it's a terrible mismarking opportunity too.Paul Maurice also does this weird thing with the Panthersand he has since he got.
01:29:27got there where it's like he tries to make their jobs harder on purpose.I think they call that challenging the players.Yeah.No.I call it point shaving.Like where he,he's like,no, no,
01:29:40we're just going to,we're going to dial it back. We're going to nerve ourselves a little bit.So people don't realize how good we are.And then,ah!Now they beat up on the blue jackets.Yes.
01:29:54Is that where victory,no, victory greens in Dallas.Who's the bug?Stinger.Stinger.I like Stinger.Stinger's got cool eyes.Yeah, he does.
01:30:01Yeah, he does.And anyway.Good and chel.Uh,Stinger is a good,when you play with the mascots in threes.Stinger's a good character.It's good and shell.
01:30:10The blue jackets are two and three on the season, currently seventh in the metro, but like who cares about the standings right now?Like, whatever.Yeah.It's individual games at this point.100%.And yeah, somebody asked me,
01:30:20they look, like,where the Leafs and I'm like,I don't really care.It doesn't matter right now.I haven't looked.You need to give it a few weeks.Rick bonus after the game.Oh, he's always talking tough.
01:30:31Part of me wonders, hey, Rick, honest question. This is your job to have them prepared, right? So here's what he said. You have to hope, you have to believe that that performance tonightwill embarrass them enough to stop this, right?Because if they're not embarrassed by that,we don't want them on the team. It's as simple as that.
01:30:52So we talked about this in the preseasonwhen things were not so great, and they hadn't signed Fantilliand Marchenko wanted outand all of this stuff. And, you know, they make a really good tradeto get Matt Nyes,
01:31:02who has four points in five gamessince getting there.Of course.Three of them in one game.Fantilly, yeah,Fantilli is signed.Okay.But the team isn't that much better.
01:31:12And the team is still the teamand the team's still not very goodand they weren't good last year.I don't think,first off,a 73-year-old man,like if you're a 55-year-oldor a 65-year-old,
01:31:24I think you can be intimidating.A 73-year-old man is less intimidatingto people in peak physical condition, number one.And I know people love bones. They love them, they'll die for them, blah, blah, blah.I've heard that all the time. You can't yell the blue jacketsinto being the team you want them to be.
01:31:42The physical condition thing, like rightly or wrongly, matters to NHL players.Of course.I've spoken to enough of them.Like, they have a coach who's a bag of milk.it makes it hard for them to takeit makes it difficult for the player to take the coach seriouslyhey work hard
01:32:03and you look like a potatorightly or wronglyit is what they think now I'm not saying thatabout Rick Bonas I'm saying I think he watches too many moviescan I give you Rick Bonas saying itdo it yeah here it isit doesn't carry over into the second periodhow concerning is that for you at this point
01:32:22especially the way that one unraveled on you?Yeah, well, it's something that we'll just keep addressing, playing so well, doing so many things, and then it's self-inflicted.It's a terrible turnover.I will see you on the goal, and then it's, you know, ridiculous penalties. So that's self-inflicted.We beat ourselves in St. Louis.
01:32:43We beat ourselves tonight. So you have to hope. You've got to believe that that, performance tonight will embarrass them enough to stop this, right? Because if they're notembarrassed by that, we don't want them on the team. It's as simple as that. And you did a lot ofthose self-inflicted things. We can fix them. We can. I know it looks bad, but I'm alsobelieve in what we're doing, and I believe in them, and I believe we can fix the problems. That all being said, if that doesn't get their attention, then they're on the wrong.
01:33:22team. It's as simple as that. That's salvageable.Like, I'm not, I'm not just going to step onhis neck there. Like, that's...In the context of how they ended the season, though, and his postseasonrant and all that stuff. Yes.So, like, what he's saying is, like, listen, like, we, we didn't get beat. You beat
01:33:44yourselves. We are capable of so much more. And I believe in thisrah, rah, rah. I do think thethe head coach of the Columbus Bluejacket should stop talking about players not being on that team anymore.Especially on October 13th when he said this, it's a little early to go to the,if you don't want to be here, you're not going to be here well. They just, that's a little soon there, Rick. You just got rid of Marchenko because he didn't want to be there, or at least in part because he didn't want to be there. Now he's not there anymore.
01:34:19And now you're still saying it.Mm-hmm.If I was a player there, I'd be like, okay. We're going to do this all year?Game 6, you do this? What about Game 60?We're going to do this again? The get out of here if you don't want to be here and work hard thing.
01:34:33I'd roll my eyes.It doesn't seem like the right message for this team at this point, is all I'm trying to say.I don't think it's the right system for this team.It seems self-serving.It's also not, yeah. He's what he's doing is he's positioned. You nailed it there, Steve. He's positioning himself as like, I'm the,
01:34:52guy who wants what these guys don't want to work hard enough to get.I'm the one. And, you know, sometimes you have to tear a strip off your team, but you ended the seasontearing a strip off your team.We are two weeks in and now you're saying this. You know what, man? You're fucking boring. That press conference had the same energy as have you tried walking in there and handing them
01:35:15your resume? You know?Boomer.Just enough.Like, again, they're on a suit and top.and get in there and talk to the hiring managerwhile the hiring manager's AI.Most important thing is a good attitude
01:35:30and a firm handshake.Absolutely.Shut up.Absolutely.Like there, again, there's some good things in therethat don't take silly penalties. So we beat ourselves. We're capable of more.
01:35:43100%.You want to coach the challenges you,but like I don't know, some of the flare that he puts on it.Maybe they go on a winning streak here, but this feels Barubei-ish last year. But Barraubi-did that in January.
01:35:57Remember he said the heart comment?Like I can't teach them to have heart.Well, yeah, but that was, that took a long time. That's what I'm saying.Yeah.This is like, you.Hi, the coach doesn't believe in the team. You ended last season saying this and now you're beginning this season saying this.
01:36:15And it's not even the first time this season you've said stuff like this.Like, I don't know. This is grading and exhausting and I'm not interested if I'm one of those players.but maybe they get past it.Like, be careful what you wish for.You know, you're going to be a couple years down the road, potentially missing more players from this teamwho are very talented because they got sick of the 73-year-old coach.
01:36:42Come on, man.Come on.What are we doing?I'm bored.I'm bored.I'm bored.I think they're bored.Yeah.
01:36:51And, okay, Rick, you're the hero.you're going to go down swingingand the players all still be here.I thinkit's time to do something other thanangry guy behind the bench there. You've had torts. You had Dean Everson.
01:37:07You had Rick Bonas. You tried Babcock. You tried Babcock. You had that weird guy that replaced tortsthat everybody was like, this guy's going to be terrible. And the organization's like,no, no, no.
01:37:17And he was there for a season. And then everybody, all Blue Jackets fans,I don't remember who he was.He was like an assistant coachand Blue Jackets fans were like.Pascal?Brad Pascol? I don't even know.
01:37:25Yeah, it was Pascal Vincent. And people were like, people were like, uh,this guy sucks and the blue jackets are like, you wait and see and we did and he was bad.And so do something different.Please. Please. Also Brad Larson.
01:37:42We didn't even have the right guy.That's funny.It went TOR.No, Pascal Vincent.Yeah, but also Brad Larson.It went Torr.Larson, Babcock, Vincent,Evan, bonus.
01:37:52So Larson was the one they weren'tjazzed about. And Vincent.Yeah, but Vincent was like, oh shit, we got to get somebody. And you know what sucks? You know what sucks if you want to get rid of Rick Bonus? One, two, three, four, five, six coaches in the 2020s.Oh, the revolving door. One of them did not coach a game.
01:38:15The other thing, too, is like, this is what happens.Like, like, Don Waddell, I still have, I think he's made some incredible moves in his career, but I do think you need to watch out for older general managers reverting back to just hiring people their own ageor that they grew up with or whatever. There's no like you know what?Kyle Dubus give him so much credit in Pittsburgh with that Dan Mews hiring.Loves his guys. There are flaws to Kyle Dubas's game.
01:38:39Sure.And he had a rinky dink trade again this weekend that we didn't even get into that it was like, what is this?Blockbuster.Absolute Ryan Johnson.Yeah.He loves to tinket.Base Meltter, that one.Loves it.
01:38:50But, you know, Dubus is open to, like, new ideas. And Dan Mews was a new coach.Nobody really knew who he was.And he's come in and he's, hey, oh, look at that. The Penguins made the playoffs last year. What? They did? They were horrible.
01:39:04They were selling at the beginning of the year, but they made the playoffs. And they got goaltending performances from like, who?Nadelcovich? No, what? No, Seelov and frigging Stuart Skitter. And like, okay, sure. And now it's Murshov.Yeah.
01:39:19Looks great.I think that perhaps Columbus ought to hire somebody who was born in the last five decades.I just, young by coaching standards.Rick Bonas is five years older than Don Woodall. But they came up together. That's my saying, right?Yeah, that's in that era.
01:39:39Come on.Yeah, I think it's done.I just don't think it's, I think this team is absolutely, I, here's where I agree with Rickbonus. They're more talented than what they've shown.I just don't think he's the man to get it out of them.I mean, there's enough that...Man, I hope these guys are so embarrassed, they play better.
01:39:55There's enough...There's enough evidence that...There's enough evidence that this generation of NHL fans don't respond to this. You know what I mean?Well, NHL players don't respond to this. What did I say?You said fans.Oh, my bad.
01:40:13I mean, they don't either.No, that's true.But the players don't respond to this.The Leifes do come to town.soon.That could be a nice.So, well,energy boost for them.
01:40:24Maybe he's trying to get the message out early, like, you ought to be embarrassed. What do you not want to be here? What are you like the other guy who we already traded?Maybe he's trying to get that out early. But I don't know.It just, how many times are you going to go back to this well?
01:40:42Yeah.Yep.Next, the senators got thumped by the St. Louis blues. The blues have been really bad this year.It is the second half of back to back. They snapped a three-game winning streak.Shit's going to happen. But what I don't even really want to talk about the game.
01:40:56I think the sons are good.Oh, they are good.Yeah, they're good.I want to talk about Jordan Bittingtonand the rumors about the connection between himand potentially the New York Rangers. Now, CJ brought this up as a potential possibilityon the CJ show yesterday.
01:41:09Obviously, the Rangers won with Garan yesterday. And the Rangers might be good, guys.Like, legit. It's kind of fun.I didn't expect it.I had them in last. But cool. How do you feel about Jordan Bittington, who seems to do well under the bright lights in a Rangers jersey?
01:41:30I mean, if the Rangers make you an offer honestly of any kind, if you're the St. Louis Blues, run, don't walk.Because Hofer's the guy.Hofer's the guy and what, do you got a $5 million backup or whatever he is?Six.No, thanks. No, thank you.And he hasn't performed. No, thank you.
01:41:50So whatever they offer you, take it.Take it.That's a miracle. Now, I guess what you're asking is why would the Rangers do that?I think why wouldn't they?He plays well on big stages.Rangers are a big stage.Shostorkin is out.
01:42:08Jordan Bennington being, what's the owner's name again?James Dolan's goalie.Jordan Bennington being James Dolan's goalie.Yeah, it's kind of perfect. It's kind of perfect. When does his contract expire this year? It's a UFA.So you get him for nothing.
01:42:30Yeah, you can get him for peanuts. If he ends up being the back up to Garenth, that's very funny. But it's kind of the perfect scenario. You're a team that needs a goalie this year and that's it.Now, another name has emerged on the Ray and Drags podcast.Oh.Anthony Stollers.Oh, my run, don't walk.
01:42:55Apparently the Rangers have kicked tires on Anthony Stollers.Run, don't walk.Actually?Yeah.What do the Leafs do then?It doesn't matter. He, dude, okay, maybe not run, don't walk, but the term on that deal is tough. The extension started this year, right?
01:43:17Yeah, it is.And it's four years?Yeah.Obviously, if it's not what Bob wants, that creates some problems. But if you're able to move on from this deal, I think you got to look at it.You're that out on Stollers. It's four years. When that was signed, we were under the impression that was going to be your 1A of the future.
01:43:46It was going to be him and wool forever. But you've lost Woll and Hildedby now.I know. Two years, well...And Wool's been one of the only bright spots on the flyer. And for 3.75.That's pretty good for your backup.Yeah.It's not...
01:43:59An elite backup, do you call them? You didn't look like that last night.Right? So that's fascinating because, like, what?Does Mersleekins come back mid-season?Well, no, he's three to five months at least.Oh, okay.Well, then, like...
01:44:13I don't...I don't love the idea of pitching Stollers out the doorjust to promote Actimovbecause you also need some insulationlike who the hell are you calling up after that?Havai, who's never played in the NHLand also wasn't good in the AHA last year. But had a good Olympics,
01:44:32which is five seconds. And there's something there. That's interesting.Yeah.And I'm, okay,I don't know if the fans would do it.I don't necessarily know if I would do it.I know John Chica would do it in a heartbeat.
01:44:49And then are you like taking backa Corpusallo or something, you know, just so you...Oh, Jesus. Now you've got Merslaken's and Corpuselho. You're basically recreating the Columbus Blue Jackets from five years ago.Or like, is Spencer Martin coming back so that the goalie room for the Rangers isn'ttoo pack now?You know, maybe it's, they have stallers and grand, and that's what they're running with. And like, there's...
01:45:10I was about to say there's no guarantee that makes your goaltending situation better.Actually, it definitely doesn't.So...Yeah, it definitely doesn't.I'm looking at it from a contract.standpoint and saying yes, but looking at it from a who are the goalies employed by our organizationstandpoint and it's a no from me, Doug.I actually think the Rangers goalie situation is very easy right now in that they don't have
01:45:35to do anything. They're playing so well.Their goal tending has been good no matter who's in that and they can wait and see.If you have time, you should use it and I don't think they should jump into any of thesedeals.I saw the Biddington thing.I'm like, okay, it's interesting.Like that's the direction you can go.
01:45:51But their goalies right now are out playing Jordan Binnington.Let's just ride this until you can't ride it.I agree with you.I will just say that a goalie on an expiring contract makes a lot more sense than Anthony Stollers.Oh, yeah.I think if we're ranking who they should go after, Binner, I think, should be higher on the list than Stollers.Because then you're signing up for those this year plus three more years of Stollers. And Binner is just like, hey, you come and go.
01:46:16If you play well, great.Maybe we catch lighting in a bottle like you did the first time you won the job overin St. Louis, and then if you don't, then goodbye. And you don't have to give up too much, I don't think. The idea that the Rangers approach the Leafs, because that's what the report sounds. That's, kick tires. That, well, well, I mean, it calls. But like what, okay, if you're the Leafs, okay, let's just game plan this for the Leafs.
01:46:40You make the trade.First off, you're not taking Corpus Salas deal.No, you're not.No, you're not.No, you're not.They need the goalie.Why am I helping you?You need to be sending me assets.
01:46:51that I can use. They've already waived Garon. That'd be insane.Who would they get back? What would they get back?Is it a pick?Is it like a third round pick?Yeah, they have two thirds this year.
01:47:03The Rangers do.They have their second round pick. They have two thirds next year as well.So there's draft pick assets there. And goalies go for nothing, right?Jess. But Strubel went for a second. So you're not getting a second.
01:47:15Yeah.I think throw that out.And Struble, but Struble's like a marginal NHL player.Stoller's at least has shown when he plays.that he's pretty good.Struble?Jaylen Struble from the Montreal Canadiens to the Preds.Yeah.
01:47:27He's a defenseman.He got traded for the second roundback.Oh, sorry. I'm like, he's not on the Rangers.No, I know.What I'm saying is I'm just saying, you're trying to compare that.Right, right, right, right.Bulltenders tend to get nothing.Yeah, so like, yeah, I don't, like a third's probably, we're asking a lot,
01:47:40and then they don't have any force until 2029, and then they have all their other picksin rounds five through seven. So we'd love to know.Maybe you're looking for that roster player, but I don't, you're not getting ahole for stallers.No.Like even in a positionwhere a team needs
01:47:55a goaltender, that's not somethingyou're getting.I also just don'treally understandthe Leafs cap situation. So like I don't knowwhat that would do to it.
01:48:04It feels David Clarksonbut with three different players.Right.They're over the cap right now. What's their decorily? The Rangers?Yeah. You can throw it up there, Hayda.
01:48:13It's Schneider,Schmitz, Moral.I do Schmitz.Pedersen,Dersie,Gavrachov, Fox.So you're not takingany of those guys.
01:48:20for Anthony Stollars.I mean, this is the first, like, credible Anthony Stoller's rumor we've heardsince he joined the team.Mm-hmm.Interesting.The last thing I want to hit before we go is Connor Hellebuckand just some comments that Frege made on Monday's show. And he said that he brings up Alexei Ashen.
01:48:49And for those that do not remember, Alexei Ashen was fantastic. He was the captain.in Ottawa and said, I'm not going to play.I want more money.Void my contract.Because you could do that back in the day.And the senators said no.And he sat out a year.
01:49:02And the NHL ruled that Yashin owed the senators a year.So he came back, was stripped of the captaincy and played the entire year in Ottawa. And was incredible. He was.He was amazing. And then they ended up trading him for Chara and Spets of that offseason, which is amazing too. Now, Connor Hallibuck, we don't, basically, for you.said the lawyers are digging into this.
01:49:26And what could happen, so there's a couple of things here. There's one thing that there's a suggestion out there by extreme, you know, tinfoilhad people that, hey, if he doesn't report this season, he could still owe them that year.Because arbitrators in the past have ruled that. Now, was it under this collective bargaining agreement? No, but he didn't report.Right. The other thing is that Article 1513,C and V of the NHL CBA say the Jets could potentially invoke provisions
01:49:58relating to a player's failure to report and his readiness to play.Depending upon how the provisions apply to Hallibuck's circumstances,Winnipeg could delay paying him until the organization determineshe is fit and ready to return to action.Because there are some rumors that he's going, maybe I should just go back.He should just go back. The Jets are killing it.
01:50:18While also pursuing disciplinary suspension of a reasonable length for missingtraining camp. So not only could they hold him out, and again, that $40,000 a day means thathe never gets that. They could also suspend him. Now, that seems punitive and not probablywhat the Jets want. They probably want him playing as soon as possible so they can trade him.I know there's a lot of comments. Like people are like, yeah, let them rot. And like, I'm just notcheering for that. I'm not either. That's not. I'm not cheering for that, but not a good outcome for anybody. No, no. The best outcome here is he gets traded and the Jetsget a great package.
01:50:54Right.But in absence of that not being there, which obviously it's not, um, he should be playing.Like from day one, he should be playing. And like, I, I hate the notion that, well, we had a gentleman's agreement.Well, months ago, I gave you 20 teams I would go to.Okay.But like you're on a contract though.Yeah.
01:51:21You're on a contract that you signed.two years ago that you have five years left on.What we owe you as the Winnipeg Jets organizationis the money that's promised in the contract.Yep.And in exchange for your services.Yeah.Yeah.
01:51:37That's the cold how this works, right? So I don't like, you know, let them rot.Don't let them play.I don't like it getting punitive. It's also interesting because the Jets are doing very well. And I almost wonder of bringing him back.would ruin the vibe.Well, Kyle Connor said it.
01:51:56Are you coming back for a paycheck or are you coming back to win with this team?Yeah. And that's an American Olympian teammate.Yes.Yes.That's a big deal to say that.Who surprisingly does not want to leave Winnipeg.I thought all Americans hate Canada.
01:52:11Well, we don't, we don't got a sports are fun.I guess he doesn't mind us commies so much.Sports are fun.And so.Maple commies.Maple commies.Maplecoms, it's right. So this is the part where, you know, Winnipeg, it was funny.
01:52:28We said it earlier on in the season and people were like, you guys are fucking crazy.Winnipeg could be just fine without Helibuck and it seems that they are. They've been fine so far. They've been fine so far.And so he's lost all of his leverage. And by the way, I know he had a good Olympic tournament. And his values decreasing.
01:52:45He was not good last year.No.His numbers are not good. The team was not good.No.If this is Hart and Vezna Trofing, stuff it in Jesse's face season,Connor Hallibuck,
01:52:55okay, well, he's got trade value. But he wasn't good last year. That was not a good team.He was not a good goal.I would have questions too.And there's five years left on a deal and he's 33.And people have talked about the Rangers.Like, they have Igor Shisterkin.
01:53:11Yeah.They don't have him this year. The only thing that would make any kind of senseis like they trade for Connor Hallibuck. He plays, his value goes up.they flip them at the end of the season. But then he has trade protection and can say no.Well, I also don't get the impression that's what he wants.
01:53:30Like, because you think a trade out of Winnipeg is partially family motivated. And you don't want to be living out of a suitcase. You know what it makes a lot of sense.Apparently lives in Michigan in the off season.I think Detroit, if you could get, you know, I know they've got Gibson and Teresov under deals or whatever. But if you want to keep Tilling Larkin double down on the.this era, whatever, go get Connor Helibach.I think the team that makes most sense in my eyes is New Jersey.
01:53:54Yeah.They can really use a couple saves. What, Nico Dawes isn't doing it for you?I am still on the Nico Dawes boat, and I will ride that boat until it careens into the sunset.Carines into something.Oh, man.Dawes Allen in the year of our Lord 2026.One day, Nico Dawes is going to turn around.
01:54:15You guys will see.Can I add one other goaltender to this conversation?because I thought you were going to bring him up when you brought up Blue's sentence in that 7-2 loss.Sam Erson has been absolutely dog shit so far this season. And this offseason, Steve Stales decided to trade a fifth round pick to acquire this goalie.Game a raise too, Jess. And gave him a two-year contract for $2.2 million. So far this season, Sam Erson ranks, let me find him.
01:54:44Oh, 58th amongst all goalies who have played a game this year.don't look at who is at 59.We don't need to talk about that at all.But that's amazing. It's Dawes. We don't even talk about Nico Dawes being at 59th in the league and save percentage. But Samuel Erson this season, 829 safe percentage, 58th amongst all goalies who have played a game this season.Last year, amongst goalies who have played at least 10 games in the year.
01:55:18last year, 10 games last season. He ranked 70 amongst 72 goalies in save percentage.870.We have Levy, Maryland at home. And Levy Merlinan was 71st.There was 70 and 71.Why the hell did Steve Stale sign up for this? And then now that he is in this situation, there's no one to blame but himself
01:55:40because this is the situation that you've always signed yourself up for and that is Samerson is not good and he has not been good and he's costing them games. What the hell is going on?Why would he do this? No, what was he thinking? As a leaf fan, let him cook.I don't know.It might be the only thing that slows that team down
01:55:58because they look very good. And at the other end of the bench, the guy who's backed him up last nightis having a Vesna caliber season. And Olmarc looks vintage.Looks like that Boston Bruin seasonwhere they broke all the records. And who was his backup that year?
01:56:13Weeman.Jeremy Swayman. So I don't understand the Samerson thing. How quickly are you allowed to pull the plug on a contract you signed on July 1st?Multi year. And give him a fifth round pick to get him.His agent must have called him and be like, oh!And then he was like, ah, they're doing it.
01:56:32The Leafs must have reacted.Yeah.Oh, my God.You want him?You want, sure. How did they try to do that?A fifth round pick for his right. He wasn't even signed at the time.
01:56:45They made that deal before July 1st.And then when July 1st hit, they gave him that contract. If the Leafs don't qualify him, they just lose him.And anybody could have him.Even the senators.I know it's a fifth round pick, and ultimately it probably doesn't matter. But like, that's like, that's the kind of victory we would have celebrated under Dubas.Yeah.
01:57:06Yeah, you know what? It's amazing they got anything. When do we start talking about that trade like we do the Jari and Skinner trade with Pittsburgh?Never because that deal involvedlike roster players and second rounders.Oh, this is a thing that is happeningwhere they are starting him in gamesand he's not startable.
01:57:28You're also like an Allmark tweak away fromthat's just your starter now.Hey, you know who could have told themand give him them the heads up that this was a bad idea?Everybody that's watched a game.Yeah.Like the thing about the Erison dealthat was so shocking is,
01:57:45I thought I'm like, well, I don't know what they'll do, but they'll probably just not sign them.I don't know how Ottawa looked at this player and said, you know what, we can help him, especially with the way it's gone with like Marilyn and who is no longer there and others in their system. It's very clear that even, like even Linus, and I know he didn't have a great start last year and he had some struggles off the ice and I get all that.At what point is it you, the Ottawa senators? They have really struggled with goalies.Maybe it's time for a switch at that coaching position.I think Linus's really good play is proof that it's on Erson, right?
01:58:23Well, yeah, sure.Like this year.Yeah.Like one guy is best done, the other guy's the worst in the league.Jesse, maybe Linus was always good. But injuries or mental health or whatever you want to call it,it held him back a little bit last year.Linus, like nobody doubted Linus was good.
01:58:37Everybody was just like, everybody that goes to Ottawa in goal, it's not, it doesn't work out.I'm putting this one on Sam.I'm in his shoulders. That's me.It's a shame. That was one of Chaka's first moves, if not his first move. And I remember going, uh, masterclass.Just trying to bend myself into a pretzel being like, it might be okay.
01:59:05Okay.Yeah, hopefully he helps the Sends drop a bunch of lines.Sends fans, very smart fans, giving him Bronx cheers.last night in that game. They're going to run them out of Ottawa.Players are going to stop signing in Ottawa.Yeah. Brady can check. You've been paying attention to the wrong Ontario market.
01:59:24I think they'd be happy if they ran him out of town. That's the difference.Oh, I think that's the goal.Go harder. The Steve Dangle Podcasts.Follow the guys on Twitter at Steve underscore Dangle at Adam W-Y-L-D-Eand at Jesse Blake.Connection complete.
