Starting point is 00:01:11 Where we talk movies, comics, TV shows My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday With me as always is my co-host Nick Mason Should point out I'm pretty tired I actually drove past my street On the way here, yeah We went out for some fancy fast food And then when we were driving past you went Oh, I've driven past my street by like a k by a really long long yeah that's okay though
Starting point is 00:01:31 it's fine this is gonna be the best show this is gonna be the best show look we'll breeze through this bloody intro we'll breeze through the news so we can just bloody talk about how good civil war is then we can spoiler alert how good it is. And then we'll just get back to our regular lives of just watching Civil War over and over again. Correct. Yeah, good. Let's get into something you may not be as enthused about. Okay. The Power Rangers costumes.
Starting point is 00:01:54 New Power Rangers costumes. For the Power Rangers movie. I don't mind them. You don't mind them? I think they're all right. Yeah. So people are kind of, I don't know what the reaction is. It's kind of a weird mix of like.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Some people are upset. Some people are upset. Because they don't look like. reaction is. It's kind of a weird mix of like... Some people are upset. Some people are upset. Because they don't look like... The traditional Power Rangers. Yes. Or that they look too much like Iron Man kind of Power Rangers. I can't use these headphones. These are garbage.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Okay. I'm switching back. Which I did with my Apple ones. I was talking about you before the show, how they changed them so they ergonomically fit any ear. Well, guess what? They don't fucking fit mine. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Tell us how you really feel about your headphones, eh? Anyway, sorry, Power Rangers. They also look very much like, what's the name of the other guy? Not Ivan Ooze, not Rita Repulsa. What was the other guy? He had the exposed brain. Zed, Zed, Zed.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Zed, yeah, they look like that. They do. That's actually a really good point. But apparently these are kind of like, they do look kind of Iron Man-ish, which makes sense. Well, they've got the giant repulsor in the chest. But I think they're supposed to be like a liquid metal kind of thing. Oh, okay. Like they sort of slime out all over your body, probably from the repulsor thingamajiggy.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Do you think it's weird? Do you think we can... I'm just looking at some Power Rangers costumes and next to them is one of the older ones and it's just a spandex. You can see everything. Yeah, definitely. What was I going to say? Do you know the mouths didn't used to move?
Starting point is 00:03:14 Do you think they're still not going to move? Oh, that's a good question. Because it's still that silvery mouth, right? It looks like they've been chroming. Yeah. I think they're going to have to move, right? I think we've gone beyond... because they're making this some scratch. They're not just re-dubbing some old kids' TV shows.
Starting point is 00:03:31 That's true. Yeah, because that was the reason why I guess they originally did it. And I guess if they're liquid metal suits. They should move. You've just got a bloody metal just in your mouth. Yeah. Maybe that's where the suit spawns from. Out your mouth and over your face, down your body. You have to have a really rough night on the booze and then you're like, guys, we've got
Starting point is 00:03:53 to save the city from the monsters. Okay, let's get on the tequilas. Two to three hours later. I got you going, Power Rangers. Oh, God. You couldn't throw up in your helmet then. Let's beat this monster, then we'll get some kebabs. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:04:12 People have said that the female costumes are too sexualized, in particular the breasts, because they're quite, you know. Look at this, they're pretty out there. I wonder, though, they're not going to do this. Do you remember in the original Power Rangers series, the Asian Power Ranger was the yellow one and the black one was black. Yeah. Do you think they're going to do that?
Starting point is 00:04:30 And the blue Power Ranger was really depressed all the time. Yeah, that's right. Red Power Ranger was a communist. What have we got left? Pink was a girl. That was literally what it was. Do you think we're going to see that again? Surely not.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Surely yes. You reckon? Oh, man. Because I think you're damned if you do or you're damned if you don't. Right, exactly. Because you're changing the original formula or people are like, you're a racist. Yeah, because if you change the original formula, it'd be like, interesting they've changed it considering in the TV show. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I don't know. Why has Power Rangers opened up such a can of worms? This used to be such a nothing thing, right? Yeah, you're right. I want to see them forming up the costumes. You need to see it in motion. I want to see them vomiting up their costumes. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:05:16 That's what I want. Getting in a Zord, bloody knocking down a cardboard building. Yeah. Let's do it. Did the Power Rangers have like, Because they had the big Zords. Yeah. Did they have like a classic weapon? Like a signature weapon?
Starting point is 00:05:28 The Zords or individually? The Zord. Yeah, the Zord had a sword. A Zord sword. Yeah, okay, good. And it also had some other... They called it a Zord. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Very confusing. Get in a Zord and then form a Zord. And I think it had like other stuff. Okay. But I get it confused with Voltron. Because Voltron had a blazing sword. Yeah. And like a shield.
Starting point is 00:05:47 And could this car. And vehicle Voltron had the propeller thing. And also a sword. A sword probably. Yeah. Yeah. Who knows? But I think also individually they had weapons as well.
Starting point is 00:05:58 But some of them did, but some of them didn't. Huh. Like the Green Ranger had like a special sword. Yeah. The flutes. Yeah. There we go. Yeah. I think the Red Ranger. had like a special sword yeah there we go yeah i think the red range i don't know what are we what are we doing what are we doing with our lives let's talk
Starting point is 00:06:12 about someone else who's been apparently somebody sent us a really good primer on the power rangers please yeah i was gonna say some uh someone else who's kind of thinking about what they do with their life is ben affleck oh yes. There's been a lot of DC rumors. And so apparently he's going to produce the Zack Snyder Justice League movie. That's pretty much all but confirmed. Is anybody going to confirm what a producer does? Because I'm still not sure. I think it depends on like the producer.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Uh-huh. Yeah. Or I don't know. Because some of them, sometimes it's just a writer with a bigger title. And sometimes they're in charge of purchasing decisions and sometimes they're have story control they're one of the actors or whatever yeah sometimes it's just an actor who's like i'd like to be a producer as well i'm mel gibson if i'm gonna do payback i want some payback for myself yeah is what he said give me a little more of that passion of the christ i'm a racist yeah yeah so give me some more of that jews run the media he's doing the money
Starting point is 00:07:09 give me the money that's right symbol so yeah but another rumor is that he's been incredibly unhappy with the the reception that batman superman got this is a rumor uh he felt humiliated after spending so much time on the press tour saying how it would be a better film than daredevil and critically it didn't actually fare as well oh but you can't compare those two movies because daredevil was a very early super superhero movie coming off the back of like spider-man in 2003 that's true and with his weird leather x-men costume yeah and you know this is like a modern day batman like this maybe you can compare the two though, because we've had a long time to perfect that formula. Okay, which is better. I'd say, see, but we have to,
Starting point is 00:07:50 see, I feel what I'm doing here is I'm building in superhero movie inflation. Right, yes. Because. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm talking about. Batman is, Batman v Superman is better, but it's not as much, it's not better.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Like it's not exponentially better, which it should be. It's better, but it's not better. It's not as much. It's not better. Like, it's not exponentially better, which it should be. It's better, but it's not better. It's not as much. Given that it's been, what, when did Dead Ever come out? 2003. Okay, so given that it's been 13 years, it should be 13 years better, but it's not. It's like three years better.
Starting point is 00:08:19 It's like... It's Fantastic Four 2. Yeah, it's better in 2006 superhero dollars. You know what I mean? Okay. None of this metaphor makes any sense. No, no, I get what you're 2. Yeah, it's better in 2006 superhero dollars. You know what I mean? None of this metaphor makes any sense. No, no. I hear what you're saying. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:28 So it said that, and because he's kind of unhappy about it and DC kind of want to, you know, placate him. Does that word apply? Sure. Yeah. They're going to kind of edge out Snyder and put him into the central position. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Which I think you'd prefer. I'd definitely prefer that. And I would also prefer. Consensus reached. Yeah. Everyone'd prefer i definitely prefer that and i would also prefer consensus reached yeah everyone in the world would prefer that 100 of people surveyed would prefer that i think that's probably true i think even people who liked batman v superman would like ben affleck to have a bigger part in the universe yeah but also uh with this batman movie there's a couple things came out i think they mentioned this a few weeks ago, but they're apparently not going to do Red Hood because it's very similar to Winter Soldier.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Yeah, that's true. Yeah, without getting into the specifics, but it's a sidekick who is evil, then not evil. That is actually the specifics. That's very specific, isn't it? I got into that, didn't I? Which of Batman's sidekicks do you think is evil? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Alfred? It could have been Alfred. Maybe it's Harold, the weird... The weird Shannon man. The weird hunchback man. Yeah, and apparently it's going to feature
Starting point is 00:09:33 a multitude of Batman villains. Now, if they were like, there's three villains, I'd be like, ugh. Too many villains. But if they're like eight, I'm like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Just have like a little, maybe have an opening sequence with bloody Bane or Catwoman or whatever and then it rolls into something else and I don't know. Yeah. Just have a few. Egghead. Egghead. Eggfu.
Starting point is 00:09:55 King Tut. Yes. Clock King. Clock King. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty good in the animated show. It's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Exactly. That's right. The poor man's the j Joker, the trickster. Kite man. Crazy Quilt. Is he a DC guy? Yeah, he is, yeah. There you go.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Any of those would be great. Yeah. What if just the opening sequence is him just pulping a series of D-list villains? I would love that. Yeah. Well, that's how the new 52 opens. The first issue is, well, they're not D-list, but he's in Arkham and he's just like wiping the floor with like his rogues gallery.
Starting point is 00:10:29 It's great. Great. Yeah. So something like that would be terrific. There is the, you do run the risk. Has DC been rebirthed yet? Not yet. No.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Is that in like June? I don't know when. But you can pre-order the comics right now, Mason. I'm not going to do that. Right now. Get on your phone. No, I'm not going to do that. Get that app open. Absolutely not. Get as many as you want. I will get Mason. I'm not going to do that. Right now. Get on your phone. No, I'm not going to do that. Get that app open.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Absolutely not. Get as many as you want. I will get zero. I'll choose to get zero. Are you going to wait to see what's good? Yeah. Yeah, okay, fair enough. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:55 Let's talk about other properties that aren't interesting to us. Okay, good. Dr. Jekyll in the Tom Cruise's The Mummy reboot will be played by Russell Crowe. Now, I know he can do one side of that personality. Let's see if his acting's good enough to do the other. Dr. Jekyll. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:16 So, yeah, they're pushing hard for this, aren't they? Yeah, okay. You've got your Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe on the wall. Do you think Russell Crowe would sign on to this? Yes, I do. No, I mean, he would sign on to this, but I mean, do you think he'd sign on if it's the kind of Mr. Hyde that is like larger
Starting point is 00:11:33 and is like a CGI kind of monster character? No, definitely not. No, exactly. Do you think he'll want in? Do you think he'd sign on if there's any kind of physical change at all? I think maybe they'd part his hair differently. And even then, you'd have to kind of pin him down.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Get some of his rugby mates to pin him down. Right, exactly, yeah. Yeah, no, maybe some mutton chops. No, but it's modern day. Right, okay. So maybe it's going to be like G called the show. Ugh, the worst. No, but I mean like...
Starting point is 00:11:57 I know what you mean, yeah. Is he going to physically transform even a little bit or is it just going to be like glint in his eye or something like that? What do you think? Do you think this is just another... Do you think they're like, okay, Russell Crowe, this is going to be another chance to show the power of acting from you, Russell Crowe, the greatest actor in the world?
Starting point is 00:12:19 It could possibly be. I think that's going to be it. I think he's going to do... I think they're going to go with this character. You're going to look exactly the same. You're going to look exactly the same. You're going to have to differentiate these characters through the power of acting. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:12:29 And I think he's going to be like, yes. That's very similar to what they were going to do with that Robin Hood reboot. Yes. In a sense, originally he was going to play the Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood. Right. And I don't know whether they were the same character
Starting point is 00:12:40 or he was just going to wear a series of different triangular-shaped hats. I don't know. Yeah. I wasn't going to do this, but I'm going to read you the synopsis of the mummy. Okay. Reboot. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:50 The verse. Good. Let's see what you think of it. Okay. Thoughts safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen, Sophie Batola for the Kingsman Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond, whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence, grown over a millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.
Starting point is 00:13:21 From the sweeping sands of the East, through hidden labyrinths, and the modern day London, the mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in the new world of gods and monsters. And then in all caps, also it's a lady mummy. Progress. What do you think of all that? Fine. Yep.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Yeah. Pretty good. We've known it's going to be a lady mummy for a while, right?? Fine. Yep. Yeah. Pretty good. We've known it's going to be a lady mummy for a while, right? We have, yeah. Yeah, okay, cool. It seems very involved for just a synopsis. Like, there's this ancient woman, and now she's back, and it's also the modern day.
Starting point is 00:13:56 God's monsters, Russell Crowe. She's a lady. She's a lady mummy. Oh, whoa, whoa. She's a lady. But there's also no mention of, like, Tom Cruise and what he's doing in it so he's going to be
Starting point is 00:14:06 will he be a legendary monster hunter of some kind I wonder if he's going to isn't he Van Helsing might be a Van Helsing I don't know yeah who knows let's not talk about this
Starting point is 00:14:13 let's talk that's the thing like is it going to be is it going to be Van Helsing they're trying to build is this another one where they're trying to build like a Justice League
Starting point is 00:14:22 or Avengers that's exactly what this is right so is it going to be Van Helsing is going to be on the team or it's going to be the mummy who's on the team? Van Helsing. So the mummy's not going to be on the team. The mummy's coming back to...
Starting point is 00:14:31 Weren't you listening to that sign? No, I understand that, but I mean like... Why are there monsters on the team? Why are there monsters on the team and regulars on the team? You know what I mean? I don't know. There are no rules anymore. Bloody Dr. Jekyll can't be on the team with Van Helsing.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Maybe half of him's on the team. I mean, they can, but then it's just League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. You know how well that turned out. Really well. Not well. Oh, yeah. Bad, bad well. Had that car, even though it was like 1892 or whatever.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Do you have anything else to yell about in terms of this franchise? They will probably get two in and then they'll reboot it. Yeah, it's not going to get anywhere. Well, you know what? Big names behind it, Mason. That's true. But then big names get... Jack shit these days.
Starting point is 00:15:15 I was going to say that, but also... The movie star is dead. Yeah, but also big names also, they do one and they're like, this is going to be the greatest franchise of all time. We're going to be in 10 of these. And then somebody gets in the area like, you should do this going to be the greatest franchise of all time. We're going to be in 10 of these. And then somebody gets in there like, you should do this because it'd be a real great opportunity to prove you're the greatest actor in the world again,
Starting point is 00:15:30 Russell Crowe. And then he's like, oh yeah, actually, I'm going to break my contract and do this other thing. And then he's out. That's right. And then Tom Cruise is like, well, if Russell Crowe's not in this, I'm out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:38 And then it's done. That's right. Good point. I think everybody's looking for that Robert Downey Jr. franchise. Yeah. Yeah. Too bad. franchise. Yeah. Yeah. Too bad.
Starting point is 00:15:46 There's only been two. There's been that one and there's been Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. What a good one. What if they teamed up for a road movie? You mean great. That's not what I meant. That sound implied otherwise. Let's talk about Han Solo casting.
Starting point is 00:16:01 Oh, it's this guy. He's been casting. His name's hard to pronounce. What's his name? Alden Einreich. We've got to come up with, it's this guy. He's been casting. His name's hard to pronounce. What's his name? You give it a whirl. Alden Einreich. Einreich. We've got to come up
Starting point is 00:16:08 with a nickname for this guy. Alden. It's his first name. Oh, yeah, that's quite easy to pronounce, actually. Alden Irons? Or just Alden? Yeah, Alden.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Alden? Alden. Alden Alder. Yes, Alden Alder. Alden Younger. That's good. Very good, Mason. Thank you Alder. Yes, Alden Alder. Alden Younger. That's good. Very good, Mason. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:16:29 We got there, didn't we? Yeah. Let's call him the little Han Solo. Okay, yeah. Yeah. Well, so he's officially been cast, they say, in the role. Now, the rumor is that in addition to the Han Solo prequel movie he's going to be in, where you find out about how he found his bloody Millennium Falcon.
Starting point is 00:16:44 How he found his blaster. Yep. How he found his vest. That's right. find out about his how he found his bloody millennium falcon how he found his blaster yeah he found his vest that's right the best story i found his ammo belts that's right i found his jodpers where'd he get those imperial jodpers from because in the the expanded universe which is now legends as we know he was an imperial cadet or officer oh and he got the jodpers he rescued some rookies you know like yeah he was only in it for the jodpers yeah yeah and then he bailed it. Yeah, he was only in it for the Jodhpurs. Yeah. Yeah. And then he bailed. It's weird that he kept wearing that, though.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Like the pants. They're probably very well-made Jodhpurs. Like if you've had a job, right? Say I've worked at McDonald's prior to my life when I was a teen man. I didn't keep wearing the pants. For one, there's no pocket, so you don't steal anything when you work there. Right, okay. Actually, they make you give them back when you go, actually. I think it's so you don't rob a bank in them.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Sometimes you see like punk kids and they're wearing the McDonald's belt. Oh, the belt. Yeah, that was a thing. Because it's got the M and it's like one of those quick-release belts that punks wear. Yeah, yeah. That everyone used to have, yeah. They're like, uh... Look at me.
Starting point is 00:17:34 And sometimes they'll, like, wear it upside down. Oh, mate. It's a W. It's a W, mate. It's whack? Yeah, it's whack. Thank you. Yeah, there we go.
Starting point is 00:17:44 So, yeah, it's rumoured that he's going to appear in Rogue One. The thing is, though, Rogue One seems like it takes place very close to the original Star Wars. Yes, it does. Is that too jarring
Starting point is 00:17:51 to be like... Jar-jarring. It's like three... It's not probably another three months, but it's close enough that the Death Star is done and they steal the plans
Starting point is 00:18:00 and then the plans show up at the start of A New Hope. Yeah, that's way too soon. So... But that's the rumour that he's going to be in that. Because he'd be Han Solo looking at that point. He'd be A New Hope. Yeah, that's way too soon. So, but that's the room that he's going to be in that. Because it'd be Han Solo looking at that point. It'd be Harrison Ford looking.
Starting point is 00:18:08 Yeah, that's right. I don't like it. Don't like it? Maybe flashback. Okay. Maybe. Flash forward. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Time's a flat circle. That's right. Yeah, maybe we see a scene where one of the characters is a kid and they're on the Millennium Falcon for some reason. Right, right. Maybe, what's her face is on it? Felicity Jones. Felicity Jones.
Starting point is 00:18:28 But I think the reason this has kind of come out now is because they can't get away with filming his part without that getting out. Yeah, true. So I think that he will be in it, this actual guy. They're going to have to, I don't know, because he doesn't look, he looks enough like him, I guess. He's got more cheekbone. He does. He's got just razor sharp cheekbone. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:18:48 If, that's a hard role to cast. And you know what? If they think they've got it, they probably have. That's true. It's probably as good as it could be. Yeah. So, whatever, man. How big do you think that role's going to be?
Starting point is 00:18:57 Because you don't want him to steal focus. No, I think it'll be very, very small. He probably, because he didn't, look, he was the kind of guy who did work for anybody. So maybe he was just in a bar or whatever maybe it's kind of like right at the end somebody has to get a piece of information right across the borders or whatever and they're like give it to this guy and then it's Han Solo and everybody's like hooray it's new Han Solo and he's just putting on his jodhpurs yeah he's putting on his pulling those jodhpurs on and that would make his quick release putting on his quick release imperial belt and then I guess but he's put it upside down
Starting point is 00:19:25 so it still says I still an I still an I so that means the Han Solo movie would have to be a prequel to Rogue One yeah
Starting point is 00:19:33 I assume because I reckon they're going to leave enough space where if it's well received they'll bang out another one or whatever they'll get their money
Starting point is 00:19:40 out of this kid before they don't make him Indiana Jones right yeah good stuff this is good news okay we'll see about that did you see They'll get their money out of this kid before they don't make him Indiana Jones. Right. Yeah. Good stuff. This is good news. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:48 We'll see about that. Did you see the big short for one, Adam McKay? No, I did not. Okay, you know Adam McKay, director. He nearly did Ant-Man. Yes. When, what's his name, dropped out? Edgar Wright.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Anyway, he's going to be directing Irredeemable for 20th Century Fox. I heard that as a rumour. That's confirmed now. I think it is confirmed. Yeah. Or it's not confirmed. So Irredeemable being the story of the Plutonian, who's like a Superman-like character who goes mad and starts to just destroy everything in the world.
Starting point is 00:20:13 He starts with their version of the Justice League and then it's just flying around the world. Just flattening countries. And then what's left of this... What's the name of the group? I can't remember. It's like the Justice Society or something. It's not that.
Starting point is 00:20:27 I can look it up while you talk if you want. Please do. And so essentially what the remnants of that team have to sort of find out what happened to him and find a way to put a stop to it before he kills everyone in the world. Yes, that's right. It's a bit existential, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:20:44 Yeah. So I don't know like what what they're going to kind of what they're going to cover from that do you know what i mean like because and the way it ends it's not like there's a big fight and without spoiling there's not a big fight in the city and then he's defeated right yeah it's a weird kind of meta oh it's very metal yeah no i think they could do that yeah that's fine okay and it's i just don't know whether people will be cool with it. And it is a huge story. It's like 60 issues or 48 issues or something.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Paradigm. Paradigm. Paradigm. It's Paradigm. Yes, it is. Yeah. Yeah. Betty Noir, Sylar, Carrie, Vault, Cubit.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Yeah. Kill. Caden. Yeah. Cubit was my favorite character. What's that? Cubit. Which one was it?
Starting point is 00:21:20 You know, the technology powers. Oh, yeah. Good stuff. Yeah, no, it's great. We've talked about this, I don't know, maybe a year or so ago. We did, yeah good stuff yeah no it's great we've talked about this I don't know maybe a year or so ago we did yeah
Starting point is 00:21:28 we really enjoy it so there is the sequel called Incorruptible which is about a bad guy going good yeah I don't think this is good no I agree
Starting point is 00:21:38 yeah it's good yeah but it's not it's not as good yeah and it's in because like also because Iridev
Starting point is 00:21:43 the Plutonian is an obvious Superman analog. Yeah. But what's his name? Max Power? Yeah. Something like that.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Yeah. Max Damage? What's his name? Something like that. He gets stronger when he's awake. Yeah. The longer he stays awake, the more... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Because there's not really a villain analog who's, you know, who could do that in the... You know, who could... It's not like... He's not Lex Luthor. No. Who's gone good. So it's not really... It's not really equaluthor. No, gone good. Who's gone good. So it's not really, it's not really equal. It's just like, it's a character.
Starting point is 00:22:08 It's interesting. Yeah, it's good that he's like a more of a street level character. Yeah. And he sort of has to step up and start saving people when the world is falling to pieces. But yeah, he doesn't have an exact analog. And he's one of the only people that can kind of go toe to toe with the, what's his name?
Starting point is 00:22:21 The Plutonian. Plutonian, yeah. But he kind of doesn't. Right, yeah. Yeah, without kind of. But yeah, it's a really good series but again there's a lot of issues
Starting point is 00:22:27 and it's a lot of well I was just looking here there's 37 issues 10 volumes yeah so will they set this up
Starting point is 00:22:35 for a series of films because it goes off planet for months yeah it does and comes back and I don't know there's all kinds of
Starting point is 00:22:42 there's all kinds of twists and turns let me tell you. It's great, though. I want to see how they do it. Me too. Yeah, fantastic. Before we get into Civil War, Black Widow. Civil War.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Yep. Fine, we can do it now if you want. Nah, it's all right. Let's keep talking. Apparently, the Black Widow solo film at Marvel, they're committing to it. It's a go. Kevin Feige said that.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Kevin Feige said it's going to be a great franchise, he said. Oh, okay. Yeah. So over the next few years. Now, by the sounds of things, they're still trying to work it out, like where to put it into the slate. Yeah. This is a smart move.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Well, they turfed in humans, right? That's right. Yeah, so now that's back in. The smart move, because Scarlett Johansson can carry a film. Yep. That's been seen in that Lucy movie, which is apparently terrible, that I haven't seen. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:27 But people went and saw that. Yeah, that's true. And she's obviously doing Ghost in the Shell. So, you know, like her profile's, you know, doing quite well. Yeah, it's right up there, yeah. So, and, you know, this is a pretty popular character. I wonder how they're, is it going to be like a Captain America spy espionage kind of thing? Is it going to be demons from her past?
Starting point is 00:23:43 Probably. I don't want it to be dead see i think we've mined everything we can from demons of her past okay that's fair enough look i would be happy to have it be it's a spy thriller yeah and we get some occasional flashbacks maybe maybe it's her versus maybe it's a kind of a spy versus spy situation maybe it's her and somebody else from the black widow program right yeah and so that might be a bit Winter Soldier-y. But maybe something like that and then we could have a flashback to her memories of growing up in the program with this person.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Yeah, absolutely. Okay. We did see a bit of that in Agent Carter as well. Yeah. That was obviously more in the 30s when that was set. And there's a little bit in Age of Ultron, but it's not really. Yeah. But I feel that's enough. I completely agree. little bit of an age of Ultron, but it's not really... Yeah. But I feel that's enough.
Starting point is 00:24:26 I completely agree. I don't need to see it either. I don't want to see a full movie of her in some sort of weird, sad grandma's house where she's shooting at a target and then it turns out to be a man with a bag on his head or whatever. It's all sad. Everybody's doing ballerina stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:41 It would be interesting if they did a movie like that and it was her and the Winter Soldier. Yeah. Because they're kind of, there's obviously parallels there. And they actually, they'd met in the comics, hadn't they? Like years prior. I think so, yeah. They'd worked together.
Starting point is 00:24:54 I don't think you could really work that in because she clearly doesn't know who he is. So she could have been mind wiped or whatever. So it's very possible. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, I'm all for it whatever should be good and you know what and she's she's one of the she's one of the best parts of um winter soldier as well like that movie should be called captain
Starting point is 00:25:15 america and some pretty good bits but black widow yeah brackets but it's her worst hair. Yes, it is. Starting point is 00:26:35 All right, let's talk about Civil War. Woo! Now, the American Civil War... Ah! Doesn't work as well, does it? Second time. No. Okay, look, Ah! Doesn't work as well, does it? Second time. No. Yeah. Okay, look, it's had a massive week.
Starting point is 00:26:47 It's the weekend opening in the US. It's apparently going to be the fifth biggest US opening ever. It's expected to reach 180 million, possibly more. Seems like a lot. Good stuff. Yeah. I'm not sure how that compares to Batman Superman, because that also had a massive, massive opening weekend.
Starting point is 00:27:03 So I guess we're just going to have to see like whether it's got legs who knows Madison let's do our best to avoid Batman V Superman yeah I don't want to
Starting point is 00:27:12 Civil War I did a video on it I don't want to get into that yeah look if you liked Batman V Superman that's fine if you didn't like
Starting point is 00:27:19 Batman V Superman that's the correct answer and it's also fine but we won't look like what you like let's just talk about Civil War do what won't look no like what you like yeah let's just talk about civil war do what you want to do be what you want to be anyway the civil war
Starting point is 00:27:30 started in america it's still a good joke yeah so as always we're going to do our non-spoilers and spoilers yep uh we'll very clearly mark when it's also time stamped so don't worry if you haven't seen it yet uh don't stress too much as always we'll try to talk about the movie as much as we can without spoiling it that'll last about three minutes
Starting point is 00:27:49 and then we'll just do whatever then we'll do our famous segment do you remember that bit when this happened that's right so Mason
Starting point is 00:27:55 yeah what do you think the story was every time alright so the Avengers they're all up
Starting point is 00:28:04 doing their avenging, right? Yeah. They've been doing heaps of avenging around the globe. Some of them. Unfortunately, sometimes that results in buildings falling over. Yes. And small nations being flattening people. Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:19 And all of New York being destroyed. And some people, specifically 117 countries that in part of the un i'm not happy about it or general ross yeah general ross he's back isn't the man who made a crazy monster man yeah he was basically directly responsible for that so he's unhappy about it somebody pointed this out to me it's because general ross so shows some footage from all the avengers events yeah but he doesn't show the hulk up Harlem because he caused that. Yes, that's very true, yeah. But there were extra spots on the map
Starting point is 00:28:49 that he didn't refer to. Oh, okay, there you go. So, you know, because we see in the preview where Captain America's like, that's enough. Yeah. I think if we'd kept it going, General Ross would have gone, Harlem. Oh, you know what?
Starting point is 00:29:01 I've actually made a big mistake here. Let's tear up that. So anyway, so the UN makes the Sokovia Accords, which is basically it makes the Avengers no longer a private group but responsible to the UN. And so the UN panel determines who is, will determine when the Avengers are deployed around the world. That's right.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Because they do tend to just... Just rock up whenever. Just roll through like sovereign borders and like just. Fly into Iraq. Just fly into no fly zones and just blow things up. Yeah. You know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:34 That's right. That's okay, isn't it? It's pretty good, right? You could just be yourself. Yeah. So that seems to be going swimmingly. So like, hey, maybe we should all sign this. But then the Winter Soldier shows up and just blows some stuff up,
Starting point is 00:29:49 kills some innocent people. Or does he? Twist, who knows? Twist, who knows? Anyway, that's how we get into it. And then from there, your team's divided. You've got your Iron Man side who's all like, listen, I've done some pretty bad things.
Starting point is 00:30:02 Remember that time I created Ultron? Well, I'm not taking any responsibility for that, but you better take responsibility for things you do in the future. I remember that time I sold billions of dollars of weapons of mass destruction to, like, whoever. I didn't even really pay attention, but it turned out they went directly to terrorists. Like, a whole bunch of terrorists.
Starting point is 00:30:23 Like, terrorists in Gulmira. Different factions. Terrorists in Afghanistan. Terrorists, bloody just terrorists in Sokovia got them. Yeah, yeah. Just everybody got them. Anyway, I got out of that because I'm rich. Maybe you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:30:38 And if you do it, we'll get real mad. Anyway, I'm going to sign this. That's right. Maybe in the future I'll do it again, but I'm rich, so I'll get away with it. That's right. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because I'm rich. I'm real to sign this. That's right. Maybe in the future I'll do it again, but I'm rich, so I'll get away with it. That's right. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because I'm rich. I'm real rich.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Yeah. So, yeah, so obviously there's a division in the, you know, in Camp Avengers. Yeah. Isn't there? All around. There sure is. Captain America's obviously against it. They take the same sides that they do in the comic.
Starting point is 00:30:59 It plays out pretty differently from the comic. Oh, yeah, that's true. Yeah, without getting into specifics. But look, let's talk about the comic, if you haven't read it, without getting into specifics. But look, let's talk about the cast, Mason, of which the returning Captain America returns. Yeah. He's just really good in the role. I don't have anything to add.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Chris Evans always nails it. Yes, he does. He looks the part. Is he wearing a wig or not? It depends on the movie. Yeah. It's crazy. It is crazy.
Starting point is 00:31:21 I think he's just got his regular hair in this. I think I agree. Look, it's amazing to me that like I guess of the two trilogies we've had so far Iron Man and Captain America I would not have predicted
Starting point is 00:31:31 Captain America would be the superior like from out of the gate yeah I would not have predicted this one would have been the superior trilogy no
Starting point is 00:31:37 I would not have predicted that people would have been on board with Captain America like from the start because like he came off not to get political but he did like he kicked off just at the end
Starting point is 00:31:47 of the Bush years, the George W. Bush years, where the rest of the world did not have a lot of goodwill for America. And I thought people would have been like, Captain America? Well, there was. Marvel were afraid of that. That's why in some countries it was just called the first Avenger.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because they're like, what what is captain america going to represent is he going to be kicking doors in in foreign countries and blowing stuff up no i've ended that already but they've they've always done a good job from the start of establishing him as a guy well he says this specifically look i don't like bullies i don't want to kill anyone even though he does kill a lot of people yeah either directly or indirectly that there's that kill camp video that that um i i put up that ben from canada sorted out which is doing you know really well people seem to be really enjoying it or really annoyed by it oh sure it got brought up directly to paul rudd and um chris evans in an interview
Starting point is 00:32:39 oh yes and they they took it pretty well but i could see they just wanted to be like it's fucking nerds man. But apparently it played in some cinemas before the movie. Oh, before the movie happened. Great. That's pretty awesome. That is amazing. Yeah. Anyway, that's just irrelevant what we were talking about.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Russo Brothers are back? Yes. Oh, we're talking about characters though, right? Well, yeah. We can talk about Russo Brothers. What do you want to say specifically? Look, this has the same... Because the last one was, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:06 it was an espionage movie with some superhero trappings. It's still got elements of that. But it very quickly ramps up. They've ramped up the action in this, and I'm very happy about that. There's two very kind of distinct types of action in this movie, which I guess we can't really spoil. Yeah, we'll talk about that later.
Starting point is 00:33:24 But we will... we will uh but anyway i'm very glad they're back basically yeah that's right are they doing more they're doing infinity war oh both of them yeah cool they've really i i definitely prefer their movies over anybody else's movies in the mcu yeah definitely and you know what i think it's i don't really even though this is a captain the captain america, it's not really, this is an Avengers movie. Yeah, it is. It's true. So, like, it's not like the Dark Knight is a trilogy.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Although, I mean, there's, see, I would maybe disagree. There's a lot of Avengers in it. Yes. But they're not in it the whole movie. No, that's fair. Yeah. That's fair. It's, there's some Avengers, you know what, there's a lot of Avenging in the middle.
Starting point is 00:34:04 Yep. But it's a Captain America movie start and finish. Bookends. Yeah, it's bookends. Yeah. Red, white and blue bookends, mate. Oh! Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:12 What about Iron Man? I'll tell you this much. Yes. It's the most I've enjoyed Tony Stark since Iron Man 1. Oh, ye... Maybe not enjoy, but I kind of... He gets so quippy. Like, he's just all quips pepper pots dies
Starting point is 00:34:26 and he's like what didn't really die but he thought she was dead yeah he gets a really kind of age of ultron he's very kind of yappity yap look at me that's true yeah yeah and in that movie should have been him going what have i done yeah that's like two hours but instead he's just like you know what i mean yeah no that's true yeah and iron man 2 he's just like, you know what I mean? Yeah, no, that's true. Yeah. And Iron Man 2, he's just like,
Starting point is 00:34:48 he's just drunk. And 3, he's a weird mess, but it's... Yeah, and then he's fine again. Okay, you're right. Yeah, this is a good dramatic turn, I think. Yeah, it's the turn that he, that's long overdue.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Yeah, okay, you're right. Do you 100% believe in it? Again, being this guy who's just spent 20 years just doing whatever he wants, selling weapons of mass destruction and doing whatever, all of a sudden he's like, you guys. I don't know if I 100% buy it. That's fair enough, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Because he's the last person who should be pushing this. Yeah, like if there were 74 casualties in New York or whatever it was, that's a lot less than if... Than the world exploded. Than if he just, yeah, if he just, like, fired his bloody multi-warhead missiles into New York to get rid of the bad guys, right? Just flattened it.
Starting point is 00:35:38 And that's the other thing, though. This, the chords I kind of have a problem with in this comic book universe. I know people are very divided on what's like the whole marketing program. Team Cap, Team Iron Man. I was going to talk about this later, but where do you fall on that? Yeah, definitely Team Cap. See, if it was the regular world,
Starting point is 00:35:56 if there are these people, these lunatics running around in costumes beating each other up, you need to obviously have someone in charge of that. Oh, yeah, sure, yeah. But in this comic book universe where the president is probably an alien yeah definitely yeah or or a robot well that's the thing like we know the internal workings of captain america and iron man all those guys so we know that captain america is only going to do what's right and sometimes there will be civilian civilian casualties but we know that he will minimize that and he's always on the right path
Starting point is 00:36:26 that's right we know he's you know he's the peak human and he's yeah gonna do his best to never fail and all this sort of stuff yeah like in the real world we have no way of knowing that no these superpowered lunatics yeah that's right exactly so from that perspective yeah i can't really sympathize with iron man who's a massive hypocrite. The other thing is, if everything is sanctioned, there's still going to be casualties. Oh, yeah, sure. That's what they say in the, I think it's in the preview, but it is in the movie as well. Captain America's like, well, this is just shifting blame. This is just shifting blame to some sort of UN committee.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Yeah. Yeah. And Captain America's like, well know if there's a casualty we should be responsible for it because the you know the idea maybe is that if cap leaves the team and they bring in another recruit that person will be like oh well i can kill somebody and it won't be my fault yeah like i'll just you know i'll just shake it off and then the committee will have to write it off or whatever it's me tony stark yeah yeah that's why he wants it he just passed the buck mate yeah yeah anyway so we should get back to
Starting point is 00:37:30 the cast i guess uh spider-man without going to spoilers tom holland best incarnation live action uh yeah i think so yeah you you hesitated and that to me says that you're a dc fan boy and a hater i am both of those things. Yeah, good. I mean, I think I'm going to need one more movie to get a title handle on the character. But yeah, like, because he's not like, the thing about it is, like, when I think Spider-Man, I think straight to New York, kind of quippy and fun and what have you and he's like in this he's he's kind of taught he's very talkative and he's kind of motor mouth yeah kind of i don't know too much not really but i think
Starting point is 00:38:13 we this is this character who he's immediately been taken out of his element and put into this superhero versus superhero world listen we're gonna take take you to Germany to fight a whole bunch of weirdos. To a strip of runway. Yeah, so like, so he's immediately fish out of water kind of thing. And I guess we're supposed to look back at the old Spider-Mans and go,
Starting point is 00:38:35 okay, well, he's like this in New York. So this is what he'd be like in, you know, this weird situation he's been thrown into. I really liked the actor. Me too. Yeah. You okay with the accent?
Starting point is 00:38:46 Yeah. Not being from New York, traditionally. We're not, are we? No. It sounded great. There is a weird clip that they've released online where he sounds very British. Okay. But I didn't hear that in the movie, so I think that might be just one of those things
Starting point is 00:38:59 that's only in that they've edited it out for the final thing. But no, for the first time in a long time, I'm like, yeah, Spider-Man movie. I'm interested to see what they do with that. Yeah. Now that he's part of the larger Marvel universe, I'm very excited for that. And they got this guy for 30 years at least, 40.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Yeah, right. Yeah, that's right. He's locked in. Yep. And if we're talking about Spider-Man, we should also talk about Marisa Tomei. Yes, we should. As Aunt May.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Whatever. And next character. She's really good. She's actually really good. Because they also kind of acknowledge the way that the internet reacted to her being cast. Right. Like Robert Downey Jr. is a bit like,
Starting point is 00:39:39 what's all this? Like, hello? Yeah. As far as new characters go, we black panther who i think uh was really well introduced it's it's the movie sets up to see kind of more a lot of more black panther stuff i wouldn't say he gets no he gets a fair bit of screen time would you say he gets more than spider-man yes i wouldn't say his impact is as impactful or memorable because spider-man's like big and colorful he's or whatever but what he does like you can see like the the fury and the rage and the and you get a sense of
Starting point is 00:40:09 his skills but it's still kind of i'm still a bit confused about what he can do yeah because he's is his power from magical roots or is it from because he's crazy fast yeah he suits bulletproof yep like he's like he can leap off really high things I think that's all technology yeah okay because well they're a very advanced nation we can talk about it later but
Starting point is 00:40:28 you know we'll talk about it later just we'll make a note and by make a note we'll not do it and then we'll probably forget about it I'm going to write down make a note
Starting point is 00:40:35 okay good I'm sorry Black Panther I'm not really going to write make a note because I will look at that and go like why did I write that somebody message in
Starting point is 00:40:42 and tell us why we said make a note I don't think I want to go through every character in and tell us why we said make a note. I don't think I want to go through every character individually because there's so many, but I just want to quickly say, I think this is the best use of Hawkeye that we've seen. It was minimal. He was funny. There was a lot less of him than there was in Age of Ultron,
Starting point is 00:40:58 which is good. But what they did use of him was well implemented, I thought. Yeah. Like he kind of shows up a bit, you know, just before halfway mark, does like a little thing. Yeah. Has some banter and he's obviously in the big fight. He has a bit of a, like a one-to-one confrontation with Iron Man
Starting point is 00:41:15 at one point. That's true, yeah. Like just face-to-face, which is great. Yep. That's kind of how you use. I think this is, I know Age of Ultron tried to kind of be like, now this is definitive Hawkeye and look, that's his of how, how you use, I think this is, I know Age of Ultron tried to kind of be like, now this is definitive Hawkeye and look, that's his family or whatever.
Starting point is 00:41:27 But this is, I really enjoyed, I really enjoyed Hawkeye in this for, for what he was in it. Yeah. I agree. Yeah. I would,
Starting point is 00:41:35 I'd see, I'd see him in a solo movie with, or maybe with maybe a half and half. Yeah. Who would you put, who would you put Hawkeye in with? I guess it'd be. Ant-Man.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Just, just 90 minutes of... Ant-Man. Yeah, okay. Yeah. Just 90 minutes of just Ant-Man riding on an arrow. Just different kinds of arrows. Different kinds of arrows, yeah. But you could do like a spy espionage. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:57 I know we had a heist, the Ant-Man heist film. But yeah, who else would you put him with, I guess? You put him with Black Widow. Yeah. I would like to see them. Pal about. Just do a mission. Do a mission.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Yeah. A regular mission. Yeah. Anyone else you want to talk about in particular? We should talk about the villain, but probably more in spoilers. More in spoilers. Yeah. Just quickly.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Yeah. Some people like he's a disappointment. He's like every Marvel villain. Did you think he was like that? No. Me neither. Great. All neither. Great. All right.
Starting point is 00:42:26 Oh, so I just want to say, I liked the Vision. Initially when I came in, I'm like, God, the Vision's an idiot now, isn't he? But I think a lot of that stems from, in the first one, he's kind of, he's fresh. You know, he's new. He's a babe in the woods. He's a bloody babe in the woods. And this one, he's had the time to kind of develop motions and kind of stew on things. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:44 And from that that he's just he's a little bit confused yeah absolutely and i i and initially i'm like that's bad why would they do that but it's not actually it shows development of his character and that he's only like a year old yes exactly really so i i enjoyed the and especially him in the wonder stuff there's a little bit of stuff that kind of goes on there which sort of parallels them in the comic books yes that's right
Starting point is 00:43:07 funniness it's a humorous movie how was the balance was it too humorous wasn't it humorous enough for you I think it was just the right amount
Starting point is 00:43:15 of humorous I don't think at any point I think they're very good at the Russo Brothers I thought you were going to say in general but they're not but they're not all
Starting point is 00:43:23 well balanced with humor the marvel movies no no no but i think the russo brothers ones are this one especially they they were very good at spacing out the i don't know they've they're not they're very good at spacing out the comedy so it doesn't interfere with i think the dramatic moments yes you'll often have like a they're very good at actually breaking the tension with a little, there'll be a very tense moment, change of scene,
Starting point is 00:43:50 little comedic moment. Right. And I think that's good. I don't think that's, it's not like there won't be a huge dramatic action sequence and then somebody's making quips all throughout it, which I think would throw you out of the. There is kind of that though.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Is there one? With Spider-Man. Oh, yeah. That suits him oh yes no I completely agree they've definitely got to me the best balance
Starting point is 00:44:10 a lot of the Joss Whedon dialogue I'm like well that sounds like a very Joss Whedon thing to say I don't I don't feel that with this
Starting point is 00:44:16 not that his movies are bad by any stretch the first Avengers is amazing and I do like a lot of Age of Ultron but no I think these guys are really
Starting point is 00:44:23 I don't know they just kind of they came out of nowhere and they really seem to know what they're doing. It's weird though because they started in comedy. They did like Arrested Development. Community as well. I don't know whether they started there or not,
Starting point is 00:44:31 but they probably did some Will and Grace. I don't know. Sure. We've all directed some episodes of Will and Grace, all right? But they've made this transition really, really kind of effortlessly. And if anybody was going to do it, you'd think that Alan Taylor, who did game of thrones and then thor the dark world would have been the guy to kind of nail that but that these guys have really i know they know what they're doing and i like that
Starting point is 00:44:53 let's talk about the bloody fight scenes mason okay sure let me adjust my microphone again because it's falling down again it would be better at this after like several hundred episodes, or however many we've done. Nobody expects that from us. 7,000 episodes, yeah. That's actually lower. This is my worst day. Yeah. You don't have to agree. No, it is.
Starting point is 00:45:14 Look, I've only seen some of your days so far, but it seems like if the rest of the day has been anything like this. Yeah, fight scenes. Now, we talked about how it kind of like it starts very winter soldier-esque hand-to-hand yeah a little bit of kind of magic and flying about yeah and then it just it's 11 and then it's like a nine and i don't mean in terms of that's how good the fight is i mean in terms of like intensity yeah scale i meant not intensity because the last fight is pretty intense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:46 That would be an 11 also. If it was an intensity scale. Yeah. I thought it was a little choppy, the editing at the start. Right. A little too fast paced. I think the Winter Soldier, I still think one of the best fight scenes in any of these movies, the hand-to-hand stuff, is Captain America and Winter Soldier on the freeway.
Starting point is 00:46:05 And they're knife fighting. Yeah. I still think that's head and shoulders above anything, even the brand of shampoo by the same name. Huh. Wow. Is that an Australian brand? No, America have that.
Starting point is 00:46:16 Thank God, because otherwise that joke would not have landed as well as it has. Yeah, A-plus landing. No, I don't know. I really enjoyed the hand to hand and it wasn't the hand to hand fighting in this and in Winter Soldier as well
Starting point is 00:46:30 it's a whole bunch of people who are really good at fighting but it doesn't seem like let's do a fun let's have them do like a showy stunt move kind of thing maybe it's a case of
Starting point is 00:46:42 there's so many back to back that you sort of you get used to it but it just does it feels like it's just a whole bunch of really well trained martial arts
Starting point is 00:46:52 which you know it is but just you know it's all these special forces operatives just laying people out professionally
Starting point is 00:47:00 and spectacularly I don't know because they're doing it every day yeah they're doing it every day yeah that being said I didn't mean that to come across doing it every day. Yeah, they're doing it every day. Yeah, that being said, I didn't mean that to come across as it's bad.
Starting point is 00:47:08 No, that's all right, yeah. And maybe it's just because we saw it. I've seen it once, you've seen it twice now. But in IMAX, that was like really up close. And when you're seeing someone hit someone like up close and it cuts out quickly and you're wearing the goggles. Oh, sure, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:21 And maybe that's just me. Yeah, it's interesting how it does open with the like the new the new event avengers that it ends with age of ultron in and i like that they didn't do a whole lot of let's just have a whole lot of government nick fury scenes and boardroom meetings which they're not they don't all do that i shouldn't say that but you know the avengers is like 40 minutes before anything happens that's true yeah not to crap on that movie because we've never we've never seen them all come together before so you obviously need that build up but i thought the age of ultron went a little too heavy too soon okay because it
Starting point is 00:47:54 opens with that shot that one shot of you see all the hero shot and then they all and you hate that shot where they all jump next to the camera yeah so it looks like it looks like that one shot that once post you know it's like well we shot, that one post, you know, it's like, well, we need this for a poster shot or what have you and it just, it looks very odd.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Why are we all leaping at the same time? Hawkeye doesn't need to leap. No. Just stand on the ground. Maybe stand up on a rock. Maybe don't stand in a row in case someone, like,
Starting point is 00:48:19 fires a tank. Yeah. Goes through all of you at once, yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah. Yeah, but we can't talk about the airport stuff, can we? So gonna have to say yeah uh special effects oh yeah good right great great obviously there's one bit in particular in the airport cinema i'm like that looks like tony stark's head is like floating
Starting point is 00:48:41 huh in front of a green screen i don't remember what you're talking about, but we'll get to it in a second. It's because you were drunk. Oh, yeah. Drunk on swag bag. Son of a bitch. Guys, if you didn't listen last week, I won a swag bag at the premiere.
Starting point is 00:48:56 And I also won a swag bag. That's not true. I didn't win a swag bag. You know where the start before the fight, it's in all the trailers where they're standing there talking. There's one scene in particular where it looks like... A lot of that airport scene is filmed on a green screen and you don't notice,
Starting point is 00:49:10 except for I think there's that one particular shot. But, you know, I'm being nitpicky because it looks incredible. I think they have... I think, and maybe I'm misremembering, but I think they've tweaked the Iron Man and War Machine suits so they look big enough for an actual human being to be inside. Right. And I guess you have to do that when you see their head.
Starting point is 00:49:29 Yeah, because in the previous ones, the Iron Man suit has a 28-inch waist or something like that. Oh, right. For a man who's six feet tall kind of thing, it would be physically impossible for anybody to be in it and for it to have any kind of functionality at all
Starting point is 00:49:45 right right okay and so in these they do look a lot they've got a lot more heft to them yeah I'd agree with that maybe it's just me the wall machine especially yeah he's bulky
Starting point is 00:49:53 the new look wall machine is primo you like it? yeah it's really good he's pretty good he's a good one isn't he so yeah there's a de-aging scene
Starting point is 00:50:02 can we talk about that now? we probably can't wait oh yeah no we'll talk about it later it's fine yeah yeah yeah bloody move that down as well
Starting point is 00:50:10 this is bloody bullshit mate oh no we can talk about it it's fine because it's just Tony Stark Tony Stark essentially goes to MIT early on in the film
Starting point is 00:50:18 to like to say hey MIT students reach for the stars kind of thing and he does that by showing you can murder as many people as you want I did if you're rich yeah and he but he just essentially he just shows a tech demo and it's essentially like it's a it's a he he puts into virtual reality a replay of an
Starting point is 00:50:36 old memory he has but it's also slightly fabricated yeah slightly fabricated like old memory he had of uh going over to his parents' house in like 1991. It's 1991 Robert Downey Jr. Yeah. In the flesh. That's right. It's a little shiny. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:50 But I think it's also, well, it's not real, obviously. So you can kind of, I guess, be. Yeah, you can. Do you think we're going to have a de-aging thing in every Marvel movie now? I hope so. Yeah, right? Or an age up, because they did Piggy Carter. They aged her up in Winter Soldier.
Starting point is 00:51:05 Or C. Rogers, big head on a tiny man's body. Love a bit of that. No, but it still looks good. I still don't think it's perfect. I think it's good. Yeah, that's fine, yeah. But I think it's got a little bit to go. But he looks like weird science era Robert Downey Jr.
Starting point is 00:51:19 He really does, yeah. I wonder if somebody showed me that and I didn't know whether I would notice it. I would be fooled. Yeah, yeah. Like it's... I wonder if somebody showed me that and I didn't know whether I would notice it. I would be fooled. Yeah, okay. Even in IMAX, I was kind of... Someone put millions of dollars towards recreating a scene from Weird Science and see if we notice.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Yeah, please do. Yeah. Do you think the de-aging guy's like... Like he's just sitting by the phone every time you do a Marvel movie and you're like, oh, please. Yeah. Or a Terminator movie. Yeah, like, oh, please, please let it be.
Starting point is 00:51:46 Or a Terminator movie. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, definitely. Yeah, could be a man. Here's a question for you, though. Now, these movies apparently... My Facebook is open on my phone and suggested post level up by Loot Crate. I just did a bloody ad for you, Loot Crate. Get out of my Facebook.
Starting point is 00:52:01 No, you guys are great. You guys are good. I think you mean Loot Crate. I do mean Loot C looks great you're right now apparently they're not making they're not pushing as much that these movies you have you don't have to know anything to go in yep that they're not as concerned about that anymore they take for granted that you know a little bit about these characters uh did you think somebody going into this as a non-Marvel fan, that would be a problem? Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:27 Because you did actually say that with a non-Marvel fan, didn't you? The second time. Or not non-Marvel, but... Look, somewhat, somewhat. Not as big as a bloody nerd as you might. Yeah, not us. Not the old nerd patrol here. No, I think, yeah, like, if you don't know that, say,
Starting point is 00:52:44 I mean, some elements are sort of explained like that the the mind gem create you know the mind gem is in the vision yeah and that gem created wanda's powers and etc like that's kind of made clear yeah they well they say it yeah they literally say it but I mean but they've also established a relationship between those two because like Vision saved her
Starting point is 00:53:09 in the last one yeah etc I think there's more enjoyment to be had in this movie if you've seen most of the other
Starting point is 00:53:17 Marvel movies in particular Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron yeah I think you I think you will you will just enjoy
Starting point is 00:53:24 this movie more because you know you're kind of you're more up to date I think you will you will just enjoy this movie more because you know you're kind of you're more up to date I don't think you'd be 100% lost no I don't think so like if we
Starting point is 00:53:30 we take the opening you know the opening sequence the opening action sequence yeah I think you get enough pieces you get enough pieces even if you had never watched one of these
Starting point is 00:53:38 you get enough pieces to know they're a team yep you know how they work together well well somewhat you figure you understand what their
Starting point is 00:53:46 powers are they all get a chance to show everything off i think you'd probably get it okay fair enough but i mean you wouldn't again you wouldn't be as invested in characters like wander or the vision yeah unless you'd seen some of the other ones yeah great use of and also there'd be some sorry i was gonna say just great use of ant-man not true and not the bit that was the bit that we all talk about but just in general yeah yeah yeah i think you could definitely go along and enjoy enjoy yourself yeah let me think though now we'll get back to it later probably not now we're gonna let's we gotta do spoilers right okay um yeah we should say best movie i'm gonna say best movie ever yeah unsurprisingly you know i
Starting point is 00:54:20 what i thought in plot wise again we were telling it's kind you know it's again it's a kind of action movie it's espionage movie what i liked is that it went back on a few tropes there are a lot of tropes of these kind of superhero movies and i think it kind of it there were some twists and turns and i think there were a couple of twists on the stock superhero action movie especially towards the end which i quite i enjoyed a lot okay sure but i thought it was gonna i thought it was going to, I thought it was going to go one way and I'm like, oh, we're going to get another one of these. And then it's.
Starting point is 00:54:50 And then we didn't get another one of those. Yeah. All right. Well, I'm also going to say best movie ever. Okay, great. I guess we'll talk about later where it kind of ranks in the Marvel movies. But let's now talk about specifically that thing you're talking about now. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:01 Are we spoilers now? Spoilers now. Spoilers from now. Well. What about the bit when well what about the bit when we the the winter soldier has this revelation that there are actually more winter soldiers out there yeah they're all in cryogenic suspension and so uh bucky and steve have to go to siberia to put a stop to them and i assumed as i'm sure most of the audience did uh well not uh but like this
Starting point is 00:55:26 they're headed to you went uh for 10 minutes there's a there's a there's gonna be a but they're gonna go to siberia and there's gonna be some sort of five on two super soldier fight yes just like a lot of you know it's it's we saw that we saw that in iron man three right right yeah we saw it in a whole bunch of other stuff and I'm like oh this is where's this gonna go
Starting point is 00:55:48 I'm tired of these but then it turns out that's not where it's gonna go Baron Zemo's just shot them all yeah I'm quite happy that they yeah absolutely some people were disappointed
Starting point is 00:55:57 I think I don't think I think we kind of we got enough of that kind of hand to hand stuff yeah totally that we didn't really need it and I thought the fight scene that we did get yeah was more interesting than what
Starting point is 00:56:08 that would have been correct i mean and we kind of saw what they could do anyway like they were tough we saw that didn't we yeah we did you know what did surprise me in this what's that that nobody died important died yeah i agree yeah well i we made some predictions prior to this yes like a couple of weeks ago what we think would happen i we got some right we got some predictions prior to this, like a couple of weeks ago, what we think would happen. We got some right, we got some wrong. I think I predicted no deaths. Did you really? I did, yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:31 I'm going to say you didn't predict no deaths. All right. We can go back, but I'm not going to. I don't know. Why did you think that, though? Well, I predicted no deaths because this isn't a universe where people can come back from the dead properly yet. Like we've said that there'll be the Infinity Gauntlet
Starting point is 00:56:44 will be in play very soon. Yeah. And that can essentially do anything. Yeah. But I feel that's kind of, that's kind of a game changer. By do anything you mean shoot a beam of energy in whatever color it is.
Starting point is 00:56:55 That's pretty much what it's going to do. But like it's, if you, it's one of those situations where, like in the comic books you can be like, okay, we've reversed all the damage, you know, the Infinity Gauntlet did. And now I'm Adam okay, we've reversed all the damage the Infinity Gauntlet did,
Starting point is 00:57:08 and now I'm Adam Warlock, and I'm going to take the Infinity Gauntlet and go away, and it's never going to be a problem ever again kind of thing. But in this universe, you'd be like, why don't they just, whoever gets the Infinity Gauntlet at the end, they could be like, why don't they just bring back all the dead characters and solve world hunger and et cetera, et cetera. I feel it's really difficult to employ that in a live action universe.
Starting point is 00:57:27 Yeah, fair enough. And so I think you couldn't really kill Captain America or Iron Man because they're just humans and you can't. Can't bring back a just human. It's hard to justify bringing them back. Okay, that's fair enough. Because why not bring back everybody who died or whatever? Good point, Mason.
Starting point is 00:57:45 Why not bring back everybody that died? I thought Glaw to justify bringing them back. Okay, that's fair enough. Because why not bring back everybody who died or whatever? Good point, Mason. Why not bring back everybody that died? I thought Claw was going to come back. I thought that was the beam of energy that destroys Rhodey's arc reactor. Oh, right, yeah. And shuts down War Machine. I thought that was going to be Claw, but it turned out to be Vision having a moment of doubt and being slightly confused. What a dickhead. What a dickhead, right?
Starting point is 00:58:00 Yeah. Also, here's an issue that I had. Why have the Ironman suits never had a parachute because they're pretty heavy the Falcon suit
Starting point is 00:58:11 has a parachute that's true it does yeah and that's just a backpack with wings just a backpack with wings it's ridiculous
Starting point is 00:58:17 I did like all these upgrades though me too his red wing and his rocket launches and he could do like a shield he did the shield thing
Starting point is 00:58:23 and he did like some mid-air parkour yeah totally I liked how he could do like a shield. He did the shield thing. And he did like some, like mid-air parkour. Yeah, totally. I liked how he could do the, there's a moment where he's, he's Scarlet Witch is like injecting all the poison gas out of the building at the start.
Starting point is 00:58:36 And he's got like, he's in like, he's blocking her with like a shield formation. It goes all the way down to his legs. Yes. Like he doesn't have any vulnerable points. It's great. Except for his back.
Starting point is 00:58:44 Because the wind is in front of him. Yeah, that's true. It can't be everywhere at once. But yeah, no, I completely agree. And yeah, what a great use of that just being like, what has this guy got? What can we do with him?
Starting point is 00:58:52 Exactly, yeah. That's fantastic. Good costume. The Russo brothers actually talked about why they didn't kill anybody. Yeah. And they said they wanted to make a movie where they wanted to prove
Starting point is 00:59:02 that there could be stakes and serious events at play without just resorting to killing someone. And I thought they did a really good job of that. Even though nobody died, I didn't walk away going, what a cop out. Yeah. Like I did with Age of Ultron. I really like Rhodey. I'm really sad that he's got the paralysis now.
Starting point is 00:59:21 Yeah, that's right. He'll be fine in a little bit. Yeah, he's got the robot legs doesn't he also also Tony Stark has extremists exactly yeah why doesn't he just
Starting point is 00:59:29 a lot of people went on Twitter and asked me about that why doesn't he just use extremists yeah Mason why can't you fix that look this movie does have some holes in it
Starting point is 00:59:37 well when you've got a universe this large and you've got multiple movies 13th movie something like that so yeah you're gonna get plot holes but no that is a good point
Starting point is 00:59:45 did you think that the Scarlett Johansson's character it's still really annoying we have an actor called Scarlett Johansson we have a character called the Scarlett Witch
Starting point is 00:59:55 it's so annoying it's so annoying somebody change your name she switches sides yep and I thought that's too obvious
Starting point is 01:00:03 I thought it would be like Vision because he has like a crisis of conscious, which he kind of does, but he just kind of shits the bed. Yeah. But she actually switches sides. Well, not really switches sides at the end. She kind of makes a call to let Captain America and that go because I guess she's just like, look, you seem to know what you're doing.
Starting point is 01:00:22 Yeah, true. Yeah. And he does in a way. He's a villain. Yes. Colonel Zemo, what you're doing. Yeah, true. Yeah. And he does in a way. He's a villain. Yes. Colonel Zemo, not Baron Zemo. Yeah. From Sokovia.
Starting point is 01:00:29 Yeah. So he's not just a guy, obviously. He has some military background, but he just does a lot of running around in a sweater tricking people. That's true. Yeah. Yeah. Was that disappointing to you that it didn't turn out to be like the Red Skull or he wasn't
Starting point is 01:00:43 like the traditional Baron Zemo? If he were the traditional Baron Zemo, I would have wondered where he'd been this whole time. Sure, yeah. Because Baron Zemo is a full-fledged supervillain. Cackling lunatic. Although I guess in the comic books, he's also masqueraded as it,
Starting point is 01:01:02 like he was the leader of the Thunderbolts for a while. Oh, really? Who were villains masquerading as heroes. So I guess they could have done something with that. But I don't know. Because, you know, obviously we got the woman from the State Department whose son was killed in Sokovia. And she was just, you know, distraught.
Starting point is 01:01:22 Yeah. And so then we've had the parallel of this guy whose family was also killed and he decided to do something about it. Yeah. It was good. And he was fairly justified, I thought. Yeah. And this wasn't a guy who just, again, this is the flaw with a lot of Marvel movies
Starting point is 01:01:39 and a lot of them is there's a guy and he just goes mad. Yes. And then all the... This was calculated. Yeah. This was a calculated attack. This wasn't, he was just exposed to radiation for a little bit and he went mad.
Starting point is 01:01:52 Yeah. He'd thought about this. Yeah. Yeah, he'd planned well ahead. He even got a different mask, like a Bucky mask. Yeah, that's true. Which, there's another little flaw maybe in this, is that he just got a mask that he put on and nobody...
Starting point is 01:02:07 You'd think that Iron Man especially with all his technology and his artificial intelligences and all kinds, they would scan that photo and go, actually, that's not. Rubber face. Rubber face, no metal arm. Yeah. What are you doing? Because it doesn't seem like he's the kind of guy who has that shield mesh hologram face technology again that technology exists i would have liked to see some sort of hand waving
Starting point is 01:02:30 like you know some sort of thing of saying well he had stolen shield technology or something or you know right right he i don't know because he again iron man's got stark has this technology where he'd scan like he could he could scan that image or that video footage and go, he's not walking like a... You know, he doesn't walk the same as... Because later in the movie, he scans Captain America's fighting technique and develops the countermeasures for it.
Starting point is 01:02:56 You'd think he could scan some video footage of a man walking through a car park and go, the Winter Soldier's... We've got some footage of the Winter Soldier here. This is not him. This is not him. The height's off. The height's off. He doesn't move for a guy with a metal arm, you know, et cetera, et cetera.
Starting point is 01:03:10 His hair's too short. Hair's too short. Yeah. That coat's not cool enough. Correct. Yeah. He's got a lot of cool coats. Now that's, I can't really argue with any of that.
Starting point is 01:03:17 But look, I'm okay. I'm okay in the larger context of the movie. I'm like, well, if that's. I think people were disappointed though that he wasn't this like, I'm the villain and look, I'm wearing, well, if that's... I think people were disappointed, though, that he wasn't this like, I'm the villain and look, I'm wearing a costume and I built this laser. Yeah, true. Like maybe people were disappointed or even surprised that it wasn't that. But I think when the focus is really on Iron Man and Captain America going head to head, having a guy like that show up at the end
Starting point is 01:03:42 and point a laser at the moon or whatever. Right. Exactly. That kind of takes away from it. Yeah. I think that the context of this movie isn't everybody's got to team up against the bad guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:52 It's what are these people doing fighting in the first place? It's kind of ridiculous that they're these, you know, it's this private army who kind of do whatever they want. And maybe this is something they should be talking about and thinking about. And at the end, it's not even really resolved. No. Because at the end, we have Martin Freeman's character,
Starting point is 01:04:12 Everett Ross, who's like, what did it really... You didn't do anything. And he's like, didn't I? Kind of thing. Anyway, because he destroyed the Avengers and Captain America and Tony Stark, they you know, they're on the outs. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:27 People. He actually did a lot of good work in a way. Like he killed those winter soldiers. That was a good idea. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. Yeah. Well, see, that's the thing.
Starting point is 01:04:34 I very much like this moral gray area. Like the Avengers do these things because they think they're making the world a better place. This guy also thinks he's making the world a better place by getting rid of the Avengers. And who's right in this situation? We are. Yeah, we're right.
Starting point is 01:04:50 Yeah, we're always right. We'll make a decision at the end and we'll be right. And you think, though, is there any difference? If they turned up to that facility at the end and they killed six Winter Soldiers, is there a difference between that and going in and just shooting them in their sleep? Not at all.
Starting point is 01:05:02 Yeah. I mean, one's kind of a bit of a cop-out. So is Everett Ross related to General Ross? I don't think so. Because I think last week it was pointed out that Martin Freeman might have an extended role later on. And I was like, probably not. But then somebody pointed out if his name's Ross,
Starting point is 01:05:20 he might be the new Red Hulk. Okay. If Martin Freeman became the Red Hulk. That would be great. I would love that. And then we wouldn't even have to bloody explain away why General Ross's mustache disappears when he becomes the Red Hulk. It grows in.
Starting point is 01:05:33 People have figured that out. I don't like it. No, I don't. No. He'd also be bald. Yes, he would be. That's right. Just shrinks in.
Starting point is 01:05:43 Yeah. What else happened in this movie that we can talk about? The twist, which isn't really a twist if you've followed the movies, is that Winter Soldier killed Stark's parents. Yes. It's heavily implied. Well, in Captain America, in the Winter Soldier, we see... What's the computer's name?
Starting point is 01:06:03 Computron. No. Zemo. No. Tobey Maguire. No, it's name? Computron. No. Zemo. No. Toby, Toby, McGuire. No,
Starting point is 01:06:08 it's not. The actor. I don't, bloody people yelling it. If you say it out loud, wherever you are, we'll hear it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:16 Oh, Zola. Zola, Adam Zola. Yeah. Thank you for saying that out loud. We appreciate it. Thank you guys.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Yeah. If you just believe and yell, we'll gain the ability to fly. But yeah, like that, we see some newspaper clippings and data and it's basically we were responsible for the death. We're responsible for all these things
Starting point is 01:06:35 and one of them is, you know, Howard Stark and Maria Stark killed in car accident. And the Winter Soldier couldn't have possibly done all of this stuff. Right. But it's like, yeah,
Starting point is 01:06:44 he probably did that one. Maybe did that one, yeah. And he did. Yeah, he did. So did you, like, straight away were you like, that's the twist? Oh, yeah, absolutely. That's obviously going to come into play. I thought it was interesting that Steve Rogers chose not to tell him that.
Starting point is 01:06:57 Yeah, right. What was his reasoning for it? You saw this again yesterday. He thought he was protecting him, but he was more kind of protecting himself and bucky was it no he doesn't really he doesn't he because he writes him a letter at the end doesn't he oh listen you're a pretty good bloke i like what you're about i don't think he i don't think he specifies okay tony stark i think he says he's wrong i think he says he was stark says did you know and cap says i didn't know it was him. Yeah. But he did know. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good point. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:26 And, uh, well, I guess before we get to that final fight scene. Yeah. The airport sequence. Yeah. Is the bit that, like that alone. And I, I would, I don't normally say this for movies. Like see Batman v Superman has, and I shouldn't make this comparison. It's got that amazing, uh, sequence in the warehouse.
Starting point is 01:07:43 Yeah. But I wouldn't say that strictly is worth the price of admission. No. This, if all of this movie was garbage and there was that scene, it would probably be worth going to see it. I think so. Just for that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:54 It's a massive kind of tonal shift. It's like, becomes this like bit of fun and it's a, you know, it's a bit of. It's like, what's going to happen now? Yeah. And it just kind of escalates. And of course the bit that you bit that you were genuinely surprised by. Well, we got, prior to this movie coming out, there was like, you know,
Starting point is 01:08:11 we got all sorts of merchandising and action figures or whatever. There was like a Captain America Civil War airport battle sequence. And there was one particular action figure in there that was significantly larger than all the other action figures. And we saw that. And then I forgot about about it completely and then i went into the movie and there's the moment where they're like we need a big distraction and scott lang ant-man is like i'm gonna try something and i was like i know what he's gonna try and he turns into giant man and everybody people people went bananas yeah Yeah, they really did.
Starting point is 01:08:46 What a great bloody sequence. And you know what I liked as well? There was, the way he moved was really slow. Yeah. Kind of like, he wasn't just like running about. Like he had real weight. And that effect is, maybe it'll fall apart if I watch it another couple of times. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 01:09:01 But that is, that was flawless. Amazing. It was almost like there was a giant man smashing stuff in an airport. In a way, it was. But I didn't feel like there was no moment of like, well, that's plasticky and that's kind of... Yeah, like the leather on the suits.
Starting point is 01:09:14 Yeah, yeah. Just all of it. Yeah, just incredible. And Tony Stark's like, does anybody on our side have some sort of amazing hidden power that will change the game? Now would be the time. That was good.
Starting point is 01:09:27 Yeah, fantastic. And it was cool the way he was kind of brought down. Yeah. I liked also how they showed what Spider-Man could do without being like, oh, my God, he's got super strength. Oh, my God, he can stick to walls. Oh, my God, he's got his spider sense. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:41 Because you kind of see him, he sort of uses at one point, I think the shield gets thrown and he kind of like gets out of the way or whatever is that is that i i saw it like two weeks ago so i'm i couldn't remember the specifics yeah like i that's a good question actually because he it it didn't strike it's a good question because we don't know what his spider sense is like in this movie yeah because he is he does get like tricked by ant-man initially because ant-man's on captain america's shield yes and you know he takes some other hits maybe and he's also not trained yeah that's true like maybe yeah because we don't know if he gets in this movie if he gets in this context if he
Starting point is 01:10:23 gets like specific ideas of what the danger is going to be or maybe it's just directional like maybe it's something's coming at him and so he can't like if it was you know a bullet he could dodge it but if it's a tiny man on a shield tiny man on a shield he doesn't know if it's like one of hawkeye's arrows yeah he wouldn't know specifically what it's going to do yes so would he be like well do i dodge it or do i catch it or do i you know whatever throw something in front of it like he wouldn't know specifically what it's going to do yes so would he be like well do i dodge it or do i catch it or do i you know whatever throw something in front of it like he wouldn't know yeah absolutely so maybe that's the key because he did again yeah like i think maybe it's just because he's untrained because he did kind of fall for a lot of stuff he did i like though it showed
Starting point is 01:10:56 that he's like him in comparison to say winter soldier or falcon there's that bit where he fights those two specifically and he catches which is catches with a soldier's punch, which is great. Yeah, because I'm like... Because that guy, nobody has caught that guy's punches. No. If he hits you, even if you block it, you still stumble. Well, yeah. I mean, they even foreshadowed that, I think, earlier on when he's fighting a whole bunch of people. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:17 I think somebody does go to catch and he just sort of steamrolls straight through him. Yeah. And then we see it later on and he catches. And I'm like, oh, that's right. Spider-Man's really strong. He can lift like 100 tonne? Or is it 20 tonne? No, initially it was 10.
Starting point is 01:11:31 Yeah. It used to be 10. And then he got ramped up to like... After Spider-Man 2... Right. I think they're like, well, the comic book version clearly can't stop a train by himself. So they ramped him up to like 35 tonnes, I think. Okay, sure.
Starting point is 01:11:43 And I think that's where he is now-ish. In a pinch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But man, that was... Yeah. so they ramped him up to like 35 tons I think and I think that's where he is now in a pinch yeah but man I also liked how they explained the new suit like the goggles so he needs the goggles
Starting point is 01:11:52 because he can't focus and I guess that's got something to do with his spider sense as well that he's sensing everything at once right yeah so it's kind of so the goggles are more like blockers than they are
Starting point is 01:12:01 yeah exactly like on a horse like a horse like blinkers yeah exactly so yeah did you enjoy like the Empire Strikes Back take down blockers than they are. Yeah, exactly. Like on a horse. Like a horse. Like blinkers. Yeah, exactly. So, yeah. Did you enjoy the Empire Strikes Back
Starting point is 01:12:09 take down? Yeah, I did, yeah. Somebody pointed out to me on Twitter, I'm sorry, I can't remember who, that you'd think if Peter Parker was a nerd
Starting point is 01:12:15 he would know the movie Empire Strikes Back. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. He could probably name it specifically. Like we don't know anybody that age, right?
Starting point is 01:12:21 Yeah, that's true. I guess not. That was fun. Maybe we should make some 17-year-old friends. Yeah. Or is he 15? He's 15, I think. Maybe we should make some 15.
Starting point is 01:12:30 Yeah, we do. What are you doing, Daddy Junior? We saw this. We went to the premiere with a friend of the show, Steel Saunders. Yes. Big fan of Star Wars. Yeah. Man, he loved that scene.
Starting point is 01:12:39 Boy, did he. He loved that Empire Strikes Back. I think he said it was one of the most fun movies he'd ever seen afterwards. It is a fun movie, let me tell you. He had a bloody blast. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Should we get into the Black Panther? So there's this kind of a subplot
Starting point is 01:12:53 that Black Panther's father is killed. Yep, T'Chaka. T'Chaka, the king of Wakanda. And he spends the remainder of the movie trying to get to the Winter Soldier to kill him. Sure. Which is pretty great. They had some really good hand-to-hand stuff yeah it's interesting that he's more than a match for bucky though like like in the way that spider-man is stronger but black panther is more skilled yeah definitely yeah and maybe it's the suit as well yeah oh
Starting point is 01:13:20 that's what we're gonna say so there is the point there is a moment where like uh black panther and captain america and falcon all have to give away their super like their super tech yeah like that it gets taken by the government yeah um and then right and then winter soldier is and is fighting t'challa with you know t'challa doesn't have the black panther suit on yeah he's still very like he's got vibranium boots on. Oh, really? Well, you can see he's got, like, the soles of his feet are silver. Oh.
Starting point is 01:13:50 And so I think the reason he can still do all the stuff is because he's still wearing some of it. That's great. Yeah. Good work, Mason. Thank you. I should have put that in my Easter egg video, but I didn't. Oh, no, you didn't.
Starting point is 01:13:59 You're a very smart man. I'm a very smart man. Unless that's not true. No, I think it is. No, it is, because you watch it again. I believe it. One thing that is never explained is the royal ring that T'Chaka wears. Right.
Starting point is 01:14:14 It passed along to T'Challa. It has some sort of connection to Winter Soldier's arm. Yeah. It's never explained why. Magnetic. Oh, yeah. I don't know. Probably magnets.
Starting point is 01:14:26 But it's never quite... Maybe it was left on the cutting room floor or something like that. Maybe it was a tracker. Maybe. Yeah. But I mean, it can't be a vibranium arm. No, it's not. Because Iron Man couldn't have cut it off if that were the case.
Starting point is 01:14:41 No. But maybe it's got some vibranium elements in it and somehow that's attracted to it. But I don't know. That wasn't... Yeah, that's a really good point. And also, vibranium isn't... It's not attracted to... Otherwise, Captain America's shield
Starting point is 01:14:54 would have stuck to Black Panther's suit. Yeah. That would have been quite fun. Yeah, that would have been fun. What a bloody... What else is good in this movie? It's all pretty good, right? Do you remember the bit at the end where they had the end fight?
Starting point is 01:15:06 Do you remember the Audi chase? Do I ever? So many Audis. Just send us an Audi, Audi. What are you doing? Send us two Audis. Send us two Audi R8s and we'll race them. You have the convertible.
Starting point is 01:15:17 I'd love the convertible. There you go. I'll take a regular sedan, please. Okay, sure. A bit too sporty for you. That's right. Yeah. Yeah, there's actually
Starting point is 01:15:25 like an Audi feature where they're just like it's the cast and crew being like well these are good aren't they we love bloody they let us crash
Starting point is 01:15:32 some Audis we're like we crash an Audi and they're like crash seven Audis and we're like ah we will we only need one
Starting point is 01:15:37 and they're like you crashed seven look at those crumple zones that's right so so it's yeah the reveal at the end uh that bucky killed stark's parents and he remembers apparently because there is a point where he
Starting point is 01:15:52 says i remember all of them yeah uh it's captain america trying to initially trying to stop iron man from killing the winter soldier yeah do you think iron man is justified in his actions even though he's all like we should be sanctioned. We've all signed the document. No, absolutely not. And also, bloody Winter Soldier, like it's all just hydro technology. He's been told to do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:14 It's almost like if somebody programmed like a Jericho missile to launch at a, you know, a populated area in some part of Afghanistan and it just blew it all up. Like in that movie Iron Man, when Iron Man's missiles did that. It's almost like that. It's almost like that, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:16:31 Except it's a man with a metal arm. Yeah, it is a man. So I really like that sequence in Winter Soldier's kind of Super Mario-ing. Yeah. Like out of that weird silo and Iron Man's coming after him and he suits like Captain America's like chipping away at him. Oh, speaking about Super Mario-ing, I forgot to that weird silo and Iron Man's coming after him and he suits like Captain America's like
Starting point is 01:16:46 chipping away at him oh speaking about Super Mario I forgot to mention this up at the top I was in a podcast this week oh right yeah I was on a podcast you were
Starting point is 01:16:52 it's called Filthy Casuals Filth Cash it was my friends Tommy Daslow Ben Vanell and Adam Knox search for that on the iTunes I listened to it
Starting point is 01:17:00 oh yeah what did you like I really liked it I didn't know anything about the new Nintendo system I was like oh it's good to know what's bloody going on in the world so i was on that you everybody should give that a give that a listen give it a wander on over had a good old time filthy casual it's just on itunes it's just on itunes that's it you'll never find it's also on
Starting point is 01:17:16 omni which is an app no it's not it's just on itunes just on itunes anyway give that a spin if you like yeah absolutely cool that was great. No, it was great. I really enjoyed it. Yeah. Anyway, he was super Mario-ing. Yeah. Captain America's like chipping away at his suit. And eventually it comes down to this knockdown drag out brawl where it's just Winter Soldier and Captain America just beating the shit out of Iron Man.
Starting point is 01:17:38 Right, yeah. Which I really enjoyed. He really deserves that kicking. I think so. Like, and not just like like i've taken a laser blast like someone like needs to just give him a severe kicking yeah which which we which we got yeah great what was it uh we knew that winter soldier was going to lose an arm because i kind of gave that away in the trailer that's true you see him lying down in the background but i still enjoyed
Starting point is 01:17:58 that you know that kind of that played out there's actually a bit in the wind not winter soldier the civil war comic where captain amer America can't fight Iron Man because he's already recorded he's like I've recorded every punch you've ever thrown that's right yeah so like you said even your secret punches even the ones you
Starting point is 01:18:14 even the punches you do in the shower you think nobody's around well I'm around yeah so that was kind of cool how the tables kind of kept turning you were worried at the end that he was going to, like, break Iron Man's neck? Because when his helmet comes off, his neck's kind of perched up
Starting point is 01:18:32 on this little concrete. Yeah, he takes it. Captain America knocks him to the ground, and, like, there's a really sort of sharp outcropping, and he lands wrong. I thought maybe that Captain America wouldn't do it. I thought maybe that he'd hit it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:45 And that was it for him. Like, even before. Like, and the helmet comes off and he's like, ugh, I'm dead kind of thing. Like, I thought maybe that was the end of him. Because that's a. That's right on the bloody. That's a brutal.
Starting point is 01:18:57 That's a, ugh. That's some American History X, like, curb stomp kind of stuff. Man. Yeah. Brutal fights in this one. Absolutely. Very intense. Yeah. And you know what else was good? It wasn't just kind of like, oh, they're fighting for the kind of stuff. Brutal fights in this one. Absolutely. Very intense. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:05 And you know what else was good? It wasn't just kind of like, oh, they're fighting for the sake of fighting. Like the middle fight was kind of like that. It's a bit of fun. Not that there was no stakes involved. There wasn't, but it was just like, don't let them get to this plane. But that one was like, oh, someone could kill another person in this moment. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:23 Which is pretty bloody sweet. Raise the stakes. Captain America gives up his shield at the end to become Nomad. Or the Captain. Sometimes he's the Captain. I bet he is. Good for him, mate.
Starting point is 01:19:39 Do you want to make any predictions or where would you like to see this series go in the future? Well, look, I think he will be without a shield for a maximum of one movie, I would say. If that. Yeah, yeah. I think Tony Stark will be like, you've earned this, here's your shield back.
Starting point is 01:20:01 No, no, I think... You think he'll just swipe it? I think he might take it from whoever gets it next. I think they might... Give it to Falcon? I think you might take it from whoever gets it next. I think they might Give it to Falcon? I think they might create US Agent who is like the
Starting point is 01:20:10 Oh, the crap Captain America. He's the crap Captain America. Yes, that's right. But he's he's not bad like he's
Starting point is 01:20:16 like he was the replacement Captain America and he was given like legit superhuman strength and like he's the Doesn't he go mad?
Starting point is 01:20:26 No, there was... So in the... Basically, in between Captain... When Captain America disappeared in the 1940s... Yes. In between that and him re-arriving in the modern day, there was, like, a fake Captain America. Like, the US government, like, tried to create a second one.
Starting point is 01:20:44 Yes. And so there was a, so it was a fake captain America and a fake Bucky. And didn't they think that was a real one? Yeah. I think, I think the, the captain America thought he was the real one.
Starting point is 01:20:53 Yeah. I haven't read any of this in a really long time, but they went mad. Oh, the captain America went mad because of this, this faulty super soldier serum. I can't remember what happened to him, but the Bucky became... Somebody peed in it.
Starting point is 01:21:08 It was probably it. No, they do it in the 50s. And then that Bucky became Nomad. Oh, okay. Who was like, I think he was in... No, he was in the Defenders in the 90s, who was super extreme. Defenders of the Earth? Defenders of the Earth.
Starting point is 01:21:23 Defenders. Out of the sky, his rockets ignite. Jets into battle, flying faster than light. Flashpoint. Lord of the jungle, the hero who stops. The beasts call him brother, the ghost war. That's Defenders of the Earth. Defenders.
Starting point is 01:21:44 Dun, dun. No, it was the 90s Defenders had Nomad. It had the new Ghost Rider. It had the original Ghost Rider when he was just Blaze. He had like a bionic eye. So cool. And like a shotgun that fired hellfire. Wait, so he had a skull and a bionic eye.
Starting point is 01:22:01 No, he was just a regular dude, but he had a bionic eye. I'll find a... I don't... Wait. How was he Ghost Rider then? He wasn't Ghost... There was another Ghost Rider. He teamed up with...
Starting point is 01:22:10 Oh, he was just Blaze, like a bloke called Blaze. Called Blaze, yeah. He teamed up with a new Ghost Rider. Anyway. But that guy... That Bucky became the new Nomad. Right.
Starting point is 01:22:19 I don't know what he's doing now. He's probably still Nomad. Who bloody knows, mate. Who knows, yeah. He had a kid. Maybe he's raising the kid. Yeah, maybe he's busy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:26 So what do you... So you think he's going to get his shield back? I think they might have... I think maybe... I wouldn't be surprised if they attempt to build, yeah, a Captain America who is more compliant. So they get John Walker, who is... So US Agent was essentially...
Starting point is 01:22:44 Like when Captain America gave up being Captain America, he just became the Captain. Yeah. John Walker who is so US agent was essentially like when Captain America gave up being Captain America he just became the captain this was in like the 80s
Starting point is 01:22:50 and then they're like well we need another guy so they got John Walker they gave him this super power treatment
Starting point is 01:22:57 to give him superhuman strength and he became the new Captain America then when Captain America came back and took the shield off him
Starting point is 01:23:02 this guy became US agent who is still a good guy but he's you but he's not as good as Captain America. He's stronger, isn't he? He is much stronger. Is he not as nice? He's not as nice. Nah, that's not good.
Starting point is 01:23:13 So I reckon they might bring that guy in. You don't think they'll take an existing character like Falcon and be like, you're Captain America? Well, they just broke him out of jail. Yeah, but that can go... The Falcon now has no stakes in that anymore. Like, it's done. Yeah, that's true, I guess.
Starting point is 01:23:27 Do you know what I mean? He's not going to give it to Bucky, obviously. No. Because Bucky killed his parents. Yeah. Also, they're going to have to wave away the fact that everybody who went to the raft now has a criminal record again. Yes.
Starting point is 01:23:41 Like, if they're going to do Ant-Man and the Wasp, they're going to have to explain how Ant-Man isn't a wanted fugitive again yeah good point yeah so i don't know maybe he is i think maybe in the wake i think in the wake of it turns out that winter soldier didn't do it and it was it's just all i think they're going to be like yeah free pass everybody let's uh the un sanctions this sanctioned this prison break. Yeah, absolutely. Now, apparently the Infinity War movies are only called Part 1, Part 2 now. They're going to change those names. Okay, right.
Starting point is 01:24:15 So it's interesting to see because they're going to go... It seemed to be like these Russo Brother films is a slow ramp into like galactic madness. Yeah, maybe. Which is what we're going to get. What we didn't get in this one is any kind of galactic madness good it's not the movie for galactic no absolutely not you're right i like galactic madness i would i kind of hope for in like the post-credit sequence just thanos and he's just like i got another infinity gem off camera nearly there uh we should talk about post-credits then okay Okay, good. One of them was Bucky goes into hibernation. Yep, in the nation of Wakanda.
Starting point is 01:24:48 That's right. He's got his little metal arm bandaged up. He's got his little hairnet for his arm there. That's right, yeah. And because he's still a danger, obviously, because I think in the comics he's still got trigger words that's kind of set him off as well for a while. And then...
Starting point is 01:25:05 Do you think they're going to build him a new arm in Wakanda they'll have to Vibranium Vibranium arm Vibranium arm yeah and then Spider-Man
Starting point is 01:25:12 is like what's this on my wrist it's a weird holographic interface what do you think about that so because in the like in the comic
Starting point is 01:25:21 he doesn't really use it anymore but in the comic books he used to have like a belt a searchlight yeah he used to have a searchlight in his belt, and I guess that's kind of it, but it also looks like some sort of duck. It's got like an interface.
Starting point is 01:25:28 Like a database kind of thing. Yeah. That seems awkward to make it a hologram, though. I don't know what it's for. Here's the thing, though. That's coming out of his web shooter, because clearly Tony Stark's upgraded his web shooters. But also he does go, oh, my hands are so itchy.
Starting point is 01:25:41 Do you think he's going to get the... Maybe he's going to get his biological web shooters. I don't think we need that. see that's the thing i think they've i think they've put it in there just in case oh okay i think they're like in case people weren't happy with it yeah i think that yeah okay fair enough yeah no i think you know the best part about this well not the best part one of the good parts about this spider-man yes that is the best part second best part though wouldn't even say second. Yeah. But he's like, oh, you developed this web formula. That's pretty cool.
Starting point is 01:26:06 But then they don't go, tell me the specifics of it. Like in The Amazing Spider-Man where it's like, well, I found this formula and then I, you know, and I built the shooters and then like, they just, he's just like, yeah, I did it. Right. And that's it. Yeah. It was show, don't tell.
Starting point is 01:26:20 It was in the webs, Tony Stark's arm to the door. Yeah. Yeah. Cause he did it, didn't he? Yeah. Yeah. It's a good postcard. Once again, I'm pretty surebert downey jr is just wearing his own clothes yeah definitely yeah right absolutely yeah fashion in general i know you're a big man of fashion it's pretty good i
Starting point is 01:26:36 like you're okay with it it's good yeah i find his tie knots are too chunky i'm not as a fashion a man as you oh sure yeah i'm not as a fashion as you are you're not as a fashion man as you. Oh, sure, yeah. I'm not as a fashion as you are. You're not as a fashion as me. So you probably disagree with me. I'm okay with them. Okay, then. All right. I can't fight you on that. Anything else, or is that all? That's about it.
Starting point is 01:26:54 How would you rank it in terms of movies? Just of all movies? Yeah. Right up there. I was also going to say good on them for employing an EMP device in a movie and not explaining what it does. When they do that? Zemo sends one to the power station.
Starting point is 01:27:09 Oh, yeah. See, I didn't remember because I didn't get it. Oh, yeah, sure. Because nobody said it. Because nobody explained what an EMP was. Yeah. No, good. We know what they do by now.
Starting point is 01:27:18 Just let it go. Yeah, absolutely. Good job. Any movie that does that. Molto bene. So in terms of Marvel movies, where does this rank? It's right up there. Right up there?
Starting point is 01:27:27 Top three. Yeah, it might even be number one. Number one. Yeah. Okay. It might be number one. Because we got, look, I really like Winter Soldier. Yep.
Starting point is 01:27:37 We had all that amazing. Winter Soldier-ing. Winter Soldier-ing. We had great hand-to-hand combat. We had crazy superhero fights yep we didn't have a final battle that was just the good guys fighting a swarm of robots and or aliens yep good good ah giant man we had giant man who was in it so you got to look at in terms of how does it stack up against iron man i say winter soldier guardians of the Galaxy Winter Soldier Guardians of the Galaxy First Avengers
Starting point is 01:28:05 yeah like I'd say it's in that it's in that tier as opposed to like yeah you know like your Thor and
Starting point is 01:28:12 Iron Man 2 Iron Man 2 but I would say Thor is I like Thor a lot yeah me too actually yeah this is the one that I've enjoyed the most
Starting point is 01:28:19 since Guardians like I like Age of Ultron yeah me too and I like Ant-Man they're okay but this is you know this is, you know, this is like that next kind of level. And I think,
Starting point is 01:28:28 I honestly think a lot of this is that Marvel goes, Marvel has gone, look, let's not just get anybody to make these movies. Let's get rid of Ike Perlmutter, put some money, put some thought into this.
Starting point is 01:28:37 Mean old Ike Perlmutter. Yeah, I genuinely think that's why we're going to, we're going to, I'm hoping we're going to see a better quality, not just like, it's a pretty good Marvel movie. Do you know what I what i mean yeah because they're kind of disappointing when you come out and you're like it was just pretty good because you know it's because i guess
Starting point is 01:28:53 they there are these people have these and i'm guilty of this have these kind of unrealistic expectations for a lot of superhero movies not just marvel ones but this one pretty bloody good pretty bloody good mate and that's the show for this week everybody that let's um let's do the next segment of the show then oh yeah it's called what we're reading what we're gonna read and you know you put in the theme oh yeah i have to do that you put in the theme i'll put it in note to james put in the theme here i'm doing the thing what are we reading Today Mason
Starting point is 01:29:31 I'd love to know What you're reading Or even what you're Going to read I don't know I'm going to re-watch Ant-Man I think
Starting point is 01:29:36 Okay I think I didn't give it A fair shake The first time around I remember you You liked it enough But then When you saw
Starting point is 01:29:44 Fantastic Four You were like you know what i was really harsh on me too yeah no that's what no you said that specifically yeah i remember saying that yeah you're right yeah well i can tell you what i've read a little bit of special correspondence which is a movie with eric banner and ricky gervais yeah what's like 45 minutes of it yep does it get any better it's about the same it's about the same great okay cool it's not it's not horrendous it's no it's fine right it's fine yeah somebody will take umbridge mason with the bit where he's like he's got these marvel collectibles and he's like these are my toys that i love and they're collectibles but they're just like hot toys from like the last
Starting point is 01:30:18 two years right okay sure yeah but you've got to start somewhere yeah that's true a friend of mine recently uh tweeted something along the lines of uh sometimes i have awkward conversation no he said i think it was my one goal in within a conversation is that i'm not playing the ricky gervais role in talking funny and then it turns it turns out and i didn't know this but ricky gervais is famous for searching his name on twitter and then responding to people like he didn't tag ricky g Gervais is famous for searching his name on Twitter and then responding to people. Like he didn't tag Ricky Gervais in the tweet
Starting point is 01:30:48 but Ricky Gervais found him and tweeted like, yeah, well, I put it all together and I made all the money. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. So that's pretty good, right? He's a hero. Yeah, he's a hero in many ways.
Starting point is 01:31:02 Looking forward to the David Redd movie? Sure, yeah. Yeah. Good enough. I watched a movie this week. It's called Eddie the Eagle. It's got Taron Egerton. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 01:31:11 Who was going to, well, they were strongly, heavily rumoured for Han Solo. It's about this British Olympian, this winter Olympian, and his dreams to represent Britain in the Olympics. Okay. And, like, the extreme lengths he goes to. Think Cool Runnings, but there's one. I was already thinking of Cool Runnings. Good, but it's one guy.
Starting point is 01:31:29 Okay. And you know what? It's great. It's really, really good. It's really kind of heartfelt. It's a really like strong message about like, just bloody do your best, mate. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:31:39 You know, it's, and I know that sounds like naff or whatever. And I genuinely don't kind of like movies like that where it's like I just believed in myself and I did it and I'm the best like the message
Starting point is 01:31:50 is kind of a little bit more complex than that and just doing things like for the not so much to prove it to other people but you know something that you
Starting point is 01:31:57 kind of have the drive to do like you have the drive to be on the world's best podcast and maybe one day you'll get there maybe one day I'll be there
Starting point is 01:32:03 which reminds me, listen to that episode of Filthy Casuals, you guys. You don't have to. Real fun. It's only on iTunes. It's only on iTunes, though. No, it's good. It's good.
Starting point is 01:32:14 Anything else you're going to read? No, that's about it. I've got one more thing. Okay, what is it? Uncharted 4 is out this week. Yeah. Oh, on the PS4. I'm going to try and get it if I get time
Starting point is 01:32:24 and give that a whirl. I'm a fan of those games. Yeah, yeah. PS4. I'm going to try and get it if I get time and give that a whirl. I'm a fan of those games. Yeah, yeah. Has he changed his look? Has Nathan Drake changed his look a little bit? The graphics are upgraded. Oh, he seems blonder. Is he blonder?
Starting point is 01:32:35 He's never been blonde and he's never been blonder. He's older. He's more weathered. Okay. Yeah. You okay with that? Oh, fine. All right.
Starting point is 01:32:44 But no, I'm looking forward to playing that. The conclusion to the Uncharted trilogy. Quadrilogy. Tetralogy. What's that? It's a tetralogy. It's four. Is it?
Starting point is 01:32:53 Yeah. It's not quadrilogy. You'd think it would be, but it's not. Look, I don't make the rules. I think it would be and it is. All right, fine. All right. I was thinking, maybe not next week, but maybe next week,
Starting point is 01:33:04 we should do a episode on video games that we'd like to see adapted into piss poor movies so maybe we could do that next week but maybe we won't
Starting point is 01:33:13 if we don't have another topic hang on what was the topic again sir? video games that we'd want to see adapted into movies and how you would do it yeah we can do that we can do that one week
Starting point is 01:33:21 yeah man yeah man let's do it yeah it's time for now what is it? It's time for now. What is it? It's time for letters. The classic one was the letters.
Starting point is 01:33:29 Oh, letters. We love you. Some letters. They're only a day away. I know they're here right now. We're going to do letters. You took charge. Yeah, I did.
Starting point is 01:33:41 And you got it. Nailed it. You got there. Yeah. But. Oh, no. I want to see a week where you predict when I'm going to say it. And then bam.
Starting point is 01:33:49 All right. We can work towards it. But you know what? That's been two really solid weeks. I appreciate it. You're on the right track to get the bloody hat trick. I just want to be clear. On the day that happens.
Starting point is 01:34:00 Yeah. I'm going to celebrate by smashing this whole place up when I nail it. Not my Budweiser song. I'm going to smash by smashing this whole place up When I nail it Not my Budweiser sign I'm going to smash your hello there sign So it just says hell here It's going to be great Alright Mason We've got some letters here by letters I mean tweets
Starting point is 01:34:15 Because the Gmail is a nightmare If you hashtag Put a little hashtag symbol Weekly Planet Pod Put it on Twitter I do a search and I bloody go through them. You find some good ones. That's how I do it.
Starting point is 01:34:27 Yeah, mate. This is from Max Squatch. Squatch? Yeah. Max Squatch. It's hard to say. The terror of the North, a Max Squatch. A frozen North.
Starting point is 01:34:38 This is specifically to you because I don't know anything about this series, but you probably do. Okay. And if not... What if neither of us does? That's the game probably do. Okay. And if not... What if neither of us does? I know. Well, that's the game we play. Yeah. What do you think of the Cloak & Dagger series coming to ABC Freeform?
Starting point is 01:34:51 So there's a Cloak & Dagger series. Are you familiar with Cloak & Dagger? I'm aware of Cloak & Dagger, sure. Please explain. Oh, they're like... Look, essentially, they're two teenagers. One has darkness powers and one has light powers. Is that why they're called Cloak & Dagger?
Starting point is 01:35:10 Yeah. Not really. Well, Clo cloak has a cloak and it like dagger has lightness powers yeah no dagger has like energy energy knife kind of things and they're like they're like okay anyway essentially their secret origin is the government gave them loads of drugs that's pretty great i'm kind of excited for that yeah Yeah, why not? Yeah, cool. Sounds good. You're all for it then? Yeah. Do you know any of the specifics about the show? Nah. Sorry, Max Squatch.
Starting point is 01:35:31 Hang on. What else have ABC done? Ages of Shield? Ages of Shield. Ugh. Probably Lost. Oh, jeez. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 01:35:40 I'm Googling it. You should Google it. They've done Grey's Anatomy The Bachelor Once Upon a Time Dancing with the Stars these are all winners Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Castle which is apparently still on I guess
Starting point is 01:35:53 I've got no idea Nashville a lot of people enjoy Nashville Modern Family which I do not enjoy I'll tell you why why's that? you know it's not terrible but
Starting point is 01:36:03 it's one of those shows where, who's it for? Like, it's a documentary and it's only a documentary because the office was a thing. So they're filming it, but to what end? What is it? That's a good point. It's also not that funny. That's alright. It's fine.
Starting point is 01:36:19 General Hospital. American Crime. The View. Galavant. Oh, The View. Oh. Galavant. Oh, we get it. They've done a lot of shows, all right? 2020.
Starting point is 01:36:29 They've done a lot of award-winning shows, all right? Oh, Revenge. You know who he didn't talk about? Sharon Carter. Oh, yeah. She's in a little bit. Didn't we know that she was... Yes.
Starting point is 01:36:39 Was Sam and Steve the only people who didn't know she was... I guess so. Huh. Yeah. Rightio Huh. Yeah. Rightio then. Yeah, rightio then. That kind of came out of nowhere, actually. And she's no Peggy Carter.
Starting point is 01:36:52 That's true. Yeah. I miss Peggy Carter. Yeah. She'll be back. Actually, they might not be bringing that season three back. That's a shame. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:01 Well, you didn't watch two, so bloody... My hope is that she gets an appearance in Infinity War. Because she comes back. Because she comes... Well, see, here's a shame. Yeah. Well, you didn't watch two, so bloody. My hope is that she gets an appearance in Infinity War. Because she comes back. Because she comes. Well, see, here's the thing. Because there's an enormous, because in the present, before she died, she had like memory loss. Yeah. Like significant memory loss.
Starting point is 01:37:20 Yeah. Which means that any point from there, from like 1950s to there, she could have done anything. Right, right. So there's a good, well, there's not a good chance. There's a great chance. If we're bringing in the time gem into the equation and maybe the good guys need some backup
Starting point is 01:37:40 and they can get it somehow through time travel or if the time gem just opens up some weird time portals. We can pull Peggy Carter out from the 50s. She can come in and be part of the fight in the present. She can have the thing with Steve Rogers. No, she can't because he's with the other one. Really? She's with her niece now.
Starting point is 01:38:00 Oh, really? They made out. Yeah, but who cares? Anyway, the point is... Making out means that you're practically married, Mason. That's actually a really good point. Okay, well? They made out. Yeah, but who cares? Anyway, the point is... Making out means that you're practically married, Mason. That's actually a really good point. Okay, well, hopefully she dies and then Peggy comes
Starting point is 01:38:11 into the present. They do the action set, they finally get some closure and then she goes back to 1950s and then she forgets that it happened. Okay, it's possible. So Steve remembers and blah, blah, blah. I reckon that could totally work. Get some closure to that relationship. Stanley, if you're listening and I know you are, tell us what weird cameos you're going to have in Infinity War.
Starting point is 01:38:30 Please. And also make that happen. Do it. He's definitely not listening. He doesn't know how podcasts work. That's okay. In 10 years, he'll be like, I've got an idea for a superhero who lives in a podcast.
Starting point is 01:38:40 I'll be like, all right, Stan. Okay. This is from Jake. What cinematic universe is the most comic book-y? The MCU? Yes. DC-CU? The Fox X-Men Deadpool Fantastic Four?
Starting point is 01:38:55 Oh, boy. Hellboy or Sony, which is like Spider-Man, I guess. But that's sort of Marvel now. The most comic book-y? Yeah. It depends on your comic books, doesn't it? That's true. I mean, because it depends on your specific issues.
Starting point is 01:39:08 Because each DC, Marvel, and whoever have their own... Like, there's different comic book-y levels. Yeah, there is different comic book-y levels. But I guess he's talking, like, colour and... Oh, maybe. Like, the first Hellboy movie was super Hellboy-ish. Yes. Like, it was bang on.
Starting point is 01:39:30 Like, Mike Mignola's art doesn't look anything like the Hellboy on screen, but, like, I think that setting and that tone, they really nailed it. And in the second one, it was just Guillermo del Toro going nuts, doing his weird fairy dimensions and what have you. And I don't think that really worked so much. No, it was fine, but I much preferred the first one. So again, I think movie to movie it depends, but it's Marvel. Okay, sure.
Starting point is 01:39:55 Because of the colour? Because of the colour. Because of the costume. It's a fun bloody, and they've just let people, yeah, and it's costumes. But it's also, Marvel is built to it as well. Yeah, absolutely. Then again, they did Thor pretty quick. Yeah. And that was pretty crazy. yeah and it's costumes but it's also Marvel has built to it as well yeah absolutely then again they did like Thor pretty quick
Starting point is 01:40:07 yeah and that was pretty pretty crazy yeah I would say it's also Marvel I'm interested to see how comic book-y the next X-Men movie gets yeah
Starting point is 01:40:14 yeah because it looks like they've put in a bit of splash of colour we've got some bloody apocalypse and yeah see where that goes
Starting point is 01:40:20 maybe a city falls down should be good city might fall down it's kind of like two weeks this is another this is another one of those movies that comes out here a week before than it does in the u.s yes we're gonna have to wait again and uh see what's up it's from mark and also if the x-men move this next one doesn't work they'll just reboot it again because who cares at this point it doesn't matter none of them line up line up it doesn't it doesn't matter nothing means anything
Starting point is 01:40:41 yep uh do you think because the rumor is that is that the last Wolverine solo movie is going to be Old Man Logan. Yeah. Do you think that the last scene is going to be him somehow resetting time? Oh, maybe. Or do you think that they're going to be like, who cares? There's no time travel in Old Man Logan, though. But I know that they can't do it. Yeah, well, that's what I mean.
Starting point is 01:40:59 Exactly. But I mean, well, see, that's the thing. Like, they've already established in this movie X-Men universe that they can just give somebody time travel powers if they want. That's true. I just give them time travel powers. It's fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:12 So, or do you think, because it's another, like, because we already had the days of future past future. This is another potential future. So do you think maybe there'll be like, if they, if it is a potential future, we don't actually know.
Starting point is 01:41:27 That's true. Well, we don't know if it's going to be Old Man Logan yet, really. They're pretty much confirmed it. But it might just be through Texas. Like it doesn't necessarily, might not be this weird apocalyptic future. Oh, you think it might be present day? Maybe.
Starting point is 01:41:38 Maybe. Because they already did a weird future. I'm not saying they won't do it. Exactly. There's too many weird futures. But I get the sense that do you think my question would be do you think they're gonna
Starting point is 01:41:46 go forward and be like okay well we'll reset it and now we can do it in more X-Men movies or do you think they're just gonna be like you know what just leave it
Starting point is 01:41:54 because it doesn't matter they can't reset it again surely I think that's probably true I think there's I think what they might do with Wolverine instead of recasting him
Starting point is 01:42:02 they might just arrest him and then just bring him back in five years like just bring Hugh Jackman back another Hugh Jackman film you'd do it again not even necessarily a film but like
Starting point is 01:42:10 let's say he hits 55 and that de-aging technology is looking pretty good if he looks terrible which he probably won't anyway but let's say you just want to take straight off I don't know how old he is now
Starting point is 01:42:19 he's nearly I think he's 49 yeah he's really he looks great hey he's up alright he looks after himself yeah don't act so surprised he's a man Yeah, he's really 49. He looks great. Hey, he's up, all right? He looks after himself. Yeah. Don't act so surprised.
Starting point is 01:42:27 He's a man who probably eats a lot of broccoli. Mr. I've-never-eaten-broccoli-in-my-life. I mean, I love broccoli. Do you? Yeah. I've never seen you eat it. Next time you come around. I'll eat some right now.
Starting point is 01:42:36 Bring me some broccoli. Do it. I'm out of broccoli from eating all the broccoli. Or was that you right in my fridge? I ate all your broccoli late at night. Yeah, so I don't know. That's just a thought I just had then
Starting point is 01:42:45 Maybe not But I feel like That's the kind of role Where maybe he'd want to In five years Be like You know what I enjoyed doing that
Starting point is 01:42:52 Maybe I'll go back And do another one Maybe not the solo one But I'll be in it Yeah okay Anyway Or they'll just get bloody I know Tom Holland
Starting point is 01:43:00 Can be the new Wolverine As well We'll see how that goes Very good Last question Is from Mark Hashtag weekly planet pod Best way to reach us Mason It's the only way Holland can be the new Wolverine as well. We'll see how that goes. Very good. Last question is from Mark. Hashtag weekly planet pod.
Starting point is 01:43:08 Best way to reach us, Mason. It's the only way. Do you still want to see steel in the DCEU? Also, can I have the official faceless extra of the podcast? Yes, you can. Now, do I want to see steel? Steel. Yes.
Starting point is 01:43:21 Why? Because I want to see the steel armor. Yep. The hammer. The proper one. The cape. The big riveted S shield. Yes. It'd be great.
Starting point is 01:43:31 Yeah. Maybe we will see that. I hope so. We probably won't. Because, spoiler alert for Batman v Superman. Spoiler alert. Superman is dead. Yeah, he is.
Starting point is 01:43:40 Maybe he's the one guy that Superman inspired. You're right. We didn't have much of a chance to inspire anyone else really so there you go no I agree I definitely want to see Steel who do you cast Idris Elba even though he's in Marvel movies
Starting point is 01:43:56 Idris Elba's kind of the go to guy for like he's a handsome biggish guy I don't know I couldn't say it is Idris Elba then if you can't think of one that's who it is what if it's The Rock some big-ish guy. Yeah. You know? I don't know. I couldn't say. All right. It is Interstellar then. If you can't think of one, that's who it is. What if it's The Rock?
Starting point is 01:44:08 It can't be The Rock because he's already black Adam or something. He's already black Adam, yeah. He's already black Adam or something. I don't know if it would work as The Rock.
Starting point is 01:44:12 No, it wouldn't, no. He doesn't even need the suit. It's true, yeah. They wouldn't put him in the... He needs to be pretty big but he can't be The Rock because then what's the point? What do you stack on top of it?
Starting point is 01:44:22 It's just him spray painting himself with silver paint. How big would he be if he had a metal suit on top of his regular body? Ten feet tall. Yeah, it'd be ridiculous. Yeah, you're right. And he's The Rock, so you need to see his face. And Steel's got that mask.
Starting point is 01:44:34 Yeah, that's true. There you go. That's the show, Mason. That's the show. Tweet in if you can think of a good casting choice for Steel. And not Shaq. It can't be Shaquille O'Neal. Or any other basketball player. Or Kobe Bryant.
Starting point is 01:44:46 I know he's retired or something. Oh, do you hear they're doing a new Space Jam apparently? Great. Who cares? Hopefully they'll keep the old website. It's still around. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:44:58 I don't know what next week is. If you have any thoughts on Civil War, tweet in through to us. Yeah, let us know. Let me see what's up, I guess. I bet we've missed a whole bunch of stuff about Civil War. Yeah, that's okay. Yeah, it's good, man. Well, it's the kind of thing where often for me, I know I have thoughts about a movie over time.
Starting point is 01:45:14 I mean, that's like anybody, I guess. Do you know what I mean? Like, do you reassess things? We often have thoughts about subjects and topics. That's certainly true. Yeah, yeah. Now, I've been a bit, I've got some stuff going on at the moment in my personal life Mason yeah
Starting point is 01:45:25 I have to kill that man absolutely I can't specify who no no there's been some health stuff in my family so and it's kind of up and down
Starting point is 01:45:33 so I might be a bit sporadic on some posting or I might be dead on I don't know who knows who's to say so yeah
Starting point is 01:45:40 everything should work out but just to give everybody the heads up so I should stop texting you every 10 minutes? Please. Okay. Unless it's really important, unless you need broccoli.
Starting point is 01:45:48 Yeah, thank you. A broccalmergency? What's the word? Broccmergency. I don't know. Yeah. So, like I said, yeah, everything's okay, sort of. So I can text you a reply.
Starting point is 01:46:00 You can text me. But yeah, so if I'm a bit sporadic, I apologize. Just direct all your questions to Mason and he will answer every one of them. He wouldn't miss a beat. Very unlikely. Extremely unlikely. Okay, where can people find us?

Starting point is 01:47:13 I was like can you confirm some things and I'm like I already did this for example that you're okay with us never sending you any money we're like
Starting point is 01:47:19 oh right what else we always forget things I reckon that's it I think that's about it i'm just with stuff i i'm gonna try and do a thing where i check comic book movie at the end of every show to see if there's some news sweet news and this one says um uh that the reason why that uh our new segment check the comic book movie.com at the end of the show if there's the more news it's it's somebody make us a theme it says why didn't um, why didn't Iron Man go get the grown man, Daredevil,
Starting point is 01:47:49 instead of Spider-Man to help him in Civil War? Really good question. And they say that Tony doesn't have a television, so he doesn't know about Daredevil. But he also says, he's keeping tabs on the world, and he knows tabs on the world, knows about this one kid. In some way, there's motivation having been accused of killing a young kid earlier in the movie so i
Starting point is 01:48:06 can maybe karmically rebuild something that i've lost there you go i'm gonna put spoiler tags all through this actually now yeah all the way to the end yeah all right thank you guys that'll do it uh grab that gem everybody fx is the veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London.
