Starting point is 00:00:30 from cbc news it's the world this hour i'm joe cummings denmark's foreign minister is summoning the country's top u.s diplomat amid allegations the trump administration has been carrying out covid operations in greenland dominic belitis reports citing unnamed sources denmark's public broadcaster d'r at least three Americans with ties to the Trump administration are suspected of conducting covert operations in Greenland. The broadcaster claims they face a number of allegations, including making lists of Greenlanders' opinions towards U.S. President Donald Trump's plans to take over the mineral-rich and strategically important semi-autonomous territory.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Greenland, not for sale. Greenland not from. Trump's ambitions to take control of Greenland, potentially even force sparked protests in Denmark and beyond. The Danish foreign minister has now summoned the US-charged affair in Copenhagen over today's claims, telling journalists any attempts to interfere in the Kingdom's internal affairs would be unacceptable. The US Embassy in Copenhagen has not responded to the allegations. Dominic Volaitis for CBC News, London.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Prime Minister Mark Carney has closed out his four-day trip to Europe with a visit today to the Canadian troops stationed in Latvia. If we're going to defend and advance our values of freedom of democracy and peace, Canada must do so from a position of strength. The Canadian Armed Forces are in Latvia as part of Operation Reassurance. It's an ongoing mission to deter Russian aggression in Europe, and Carney has announced it's being extended until at least 2029. This European tour has also seen Carney visit Ukraine, Poland, and Germany.
Starting point is 00:02:32 And he's now on his way back to Ottawa. U.S. President Trump is chairing a meeting today at the White House on the war in Gaza. And U.S. Special Envoy, Steve Whitkoff, says the focus will be the administration's post-war plan for the territory. It's a very comprehensive plan we're putting together on the next day that I think many people are going to be, they're going to see how robust it is and how well-meaning it is. Despite the fact Israel and Hamas have yet to come to terms on a ceasefire agreement, Hamas supports the latest proposal, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not. Police in Haiti say they have regained control of a critical telecommunications hub.
Starting point is 00:03:13 It was seized last week by armed gangs, and for a brief time, air traffic and internet connections went down. The military-style operation to take back the site is being viewed as a rare success for the Haitian authorities and the UN-backed mission led by Kenyan police. That mission to regain control of the Haitian capital has been underway now for more than a year. A petition is being circulated to save the Quebec-wa version of The Simpsons. Since the early 1990s, the show has been dubbed for a French-Canadian audience, but that appears to be coming to an end.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Sarah Lovett reports. It's the same faces and adventures with a twist, Quebec's version of the Simpsons uses local references. Like there, about a Montreal area shopping center. But that dubbing may not be coming back. The work used to be done by chorus entertainment, but it didn't renew its broadcasting rights. Instead, it'll be up to Disney Plus,
Starting point is 00:04:12 and it appears that's not happening. Disney didn't reply to requests for comment. Joshua Pia Soto has launched a petition to save Les Simpsons, saying it's about preserving Quebec culture, a sentiment that Terry Dubet agrees with. It's an American show, which is really, really Quebec. For the past eight years, Dubet has played the Quebec version of Homer.
Starting point is 00:04:34 The hope is Disney listens to the outcry or else for the first time in 36 years, Les Simpsons won't be available in French, Quebec. Sarah Levitt's CBC News, Montreal. And that is the world this hour for CBC News? I'm Joe Cummings.
