Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a headgum podcast. This is Emily, Henley, and Sammy, and you're listening to Too Scary Didn't Watch. Hi, everyone. Welcome to Too Scary Didn't Watch, the horror movie recap podcast for those too scared to watch. we all have a look of somber somber reflection at what we are about to do look hi everyone welcome to do scared and watch the horror movie recap podcast for those too scared to watch themselves i'm emily i'm too scared to watch scary movies and yes it is the last week of
Starting point is 00:00:46 helchella i'm henley and i'm also too scared to watch scary movies and um sayanora helchella sayanara don't say so gleefully i'm trying to light in the mood it feels like a funeral in here i'm so sad Wait, but who are you? And I'm Sammy and I love watching scary movies. And so I watch them so that you don't have to. And I am mourning our beloved two hell to chella.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Week 13, we have arrived at the final episode. Unbelievable. Really unbelievable stuff. I don't, you know, I don't know, you guys. But, you know, the good news is the podcast continues. It does. That's true. The fun thing about doing it the way we've done it this year is October is just a hop-skip and a jump down the road.
Starting point is 00:01:34 So just keeps on going. The fun doesn't stop. The fun doesn't stop here, but Helchella does and it stops today. And you guys aren't even going to believe November. I mean, November, Thanksgiving horror, Thanksgiving horror. Oh, yeah. Thanksgiving. And then the holidays?
Starting point is 00:01:49 Thanksgiving non-stop. And then January, as we all know. January. So it's only up from here. Every month gets better and better. Ooh, baby. But before we get into our final two-held Tuchella movie, timestamps in the show notes, if you want to get straight to it.
Starting point is 00:02:05 But we do have some exciting, haunted housekeeping. First reminder to everybody, if you don't know by now, that all our Hellchella episodes are available as video episodes on our Patreon. Patreon.com slash TSDW podcast. there's yeah and there was something else I was going to say and I forgot so um yeah I don't know what it was but there was something else on Patreon that was good oh I guess I guess our aliener three caps are also coming coming to an end this week so check out the Patreon and oh and then we have an answer to a question that everybody's been asking everyone asking it
Starting point is 00:02:54 Which is that we have merch for you. Yay. Yay. A two hell two chella shirt. You got to have it. You got to have it. There's also a sweatshirt if you're in the moon. For that's chilly.
Starting point is 00:03:11 It's just coming up on fall and winter theoretically. Some of them they say. And that is available at bonfire.com slash to hell to chella. You know how to spell it. Obviously. Obviously. But there'll be a link on our Instagram as well if you go there. I am very excited.
Starting point is 00:03:34 This year, the shirt's also available in pink and it looks really good. So that is a big development and very exciting. It's a really big development. I'm really excited for a pink shirt. I don't own a pink shirt. I think I'm going to get the pink sweatshirt. You know I love a crew neck. Yeah. Oh, I hadn't even considered that.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Consider it. Consider it, babe. Whoa. It's really exciting. Yeah, so thank you for sticking with us through this two hell two cello. This is your reward. You get to buy yourself a piece of merch. Oh, and one last piece of haunted housekeeping, that a reminder for you, Emily and Henley, as well, that we are participating in the vulture. movie fantasy league. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:27 There is a post on our Patreon that's like open to the public. So you can just go to our Patreon to find all the information that you need, the links and whatnot. But basically it's a like an awards season circuit league where you pick movies on your lineup and they get points when the movies win awards at all the various awards ceremonies, of course, leading up to the big one, the Oscars. The big one. And you can add, well, I think it limits you to adding eight movies, but if you wanted to add all the Hellchella movies, you would be able to, oh, because there's like a $100 price limit that the movies are priced based on how likely they are to win awards.
Starting point is 00:05:11 And so if you chose all the Hellchella movies, you'd still have $76 to spare. Oh, they don't think that this year's the ritual, starring Al Pacino. The ritual is, yeah, it's not a frontrunner in the Oscars circuit. I mean, those publicists need to do a better job. But it's going to, we're going to have, I think the way it works is that the lower the odds, the, you know, bigger of a jump you get. That's how betting works. We're learning how to gamble in real time with us. Yes, this is how it works.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Wow. I'm also part of a fantasy football league this year, too. This is my second fantasy league that I'm participating in. and um wow i don't know our friend friend of the pod silent jenna her friends signed her up for a fantasy football league
Starting point is 00:06:01 without asking her or they just like told her in a in a text thread and then she just didn't think about it again and then one day like got texts from all of them screaming at her because she missed the draft and it like messed up everybody else's she was like i did not ask to participate in this league yeah you like gave me homework and I what I told I asked I was speaking to another person at church and she mentioned that she had organized an entire fantasy football league and I was like oh I'm a part of one of those but I was like but I haven't really like done anything with it and she looked at me like I said I just like murdered someone she was like what do you mean she was like you had to draft like today today was the ending for drafting and I was like it's a whole thing fantasy football and I was like Tim's on the same team as me Tim's actually doing stuff. Don't worry. Don't worry. She got very, she was like, what's wrong with you? Like, you thought
Starting point is 00:06:55 that was going to be a fun little bonding moment. And instead, she was like, well, you, she was like, well, now I just trust you. Now I don't know who you are. And I don't trust you. Don't take things seriously the way that I do. So you're not responsible. And I can tell. And she's right. And in fact, I think you're a bad mom. Yeah. She's not wrong. No, that's, no. I'm a great mom. No, I know. That's why I can make that joke, Henley. Obviously, if you were a bad mom, I would never make that joke because that would be inappropriate um well speaking of the the deadline to draft your team for our league is september 25th which is coming up so if you want to participate tomorrow no it's today it's tomorrow what day is the wednesday today is the 21st Monday
Starting point is 00:07:40 Monday's 22nd Tuesdays 23rd when so it's tomorrow it's tomorrow it's tomorrow you freaking better draft or we're all going to text scream at you and that is all the haunted housekeeping for today so would you guys tell me did anything scary happen to you this week well it's still hot here if you can believe it still hot in Los Angeles and you know what comes with the heat is flies oh yeah and I've had a couple of nights of a fly getting into my home. I get that feeling it sucks. Oh my God. I become feral when there is a fly in my house. I can't think of anything else. I'll do, I'll put myself in dangerous situations to try to get at that fly. I truly almost like, I stood on the arm of a chair
Starting point is 00:08:42 in like an insane way and it almost fell and I was like, well, I would have just like very seriously injured myself to get this one flat but like it doesn't matter I cannot rest it's like you're hypnotized it's like you're haunted by the fly I am overcome by Elamania yes it is like this is me with mosquitoes they're used to get mosquitoes in my house
Starting point is 00:09:01 and it's same thing crawl on your freaking hands yeah I'm like it's like I'm like possessed it's I and I don't like who I become but I can't do a thing about it and like it's Joel doesn't
Starting point is 00:09:17 Joel isn't overcome in the same way, so he'll just be continuing to, like, go about his life, like, a healthy person, and I'll be like, like, tracing my thought and, like, walking, and I have, like, a thing in my hand. I, like, hit it. And he just is, like, putting dinner on the table and, like, being, like, a reasonable person. And I don't know what to do about it, but I just, I need the cold to come so that they all die and go away because I can't, I can't do it. There should be, like, a bug laser, a bug taser that you can just, like, shoot. God, there should be, because I... They have to, like, the net, the, like, tennis racket. Yeah, but that you have to actually physically hit it, you know? That's true. And they've recently taken to landing on the ceiling. Which is how I almost fell big off a chair.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Yeah. Way big off a chair. Anyway, I think a lot about how Wes said that he doesn't even kill bugs anymore. And I'm like, no, bugs got to go. For me, bugs have got to go. In the home, in the home. Like there's a single buzzing bug in the home in your room And you're trying to do something
Starting point is 00:10:21 It's so distracting I hate it Hate it And I've got four fucking cats who don't do jack shit I know I know say what I'm like this isn't bothering you It's your whole fucking deal
Starting point is 00:10:32 Get up there and just think about it Yeah that's that they should be They should be doing more I'm disappointed in them I'm really disappointed in them So Aye aye aye Anything scary happening to you guys this week Oh worked up now
Starting point is 00:10:45 Oh my gosh I'm worked up on your behalf. I understand so much. I, okay, so I have, you guys, I have been discovering so much music on TikTok. Unfortunately, it seems like TikTok algorithms are now going to be like run by Donald Trump. So I'm not sure how much more music I'll be discovering. But as of right now, I've discovered so much music. And I feel like one of those people who loves music before everyone else loves.
Starting point is 00:11:16 music. And I feel myself being annoying, but I can't stop being annoying. And by that, I mean right now with you guys. Because there's this one band called Whatmore. And they are a bunch of truly teens. They went to LaGuardia High School in New York, which is, if anyone knows, it's like the, it's an arts high school. Is that where Timmy went? Yeah, Timmy went there, Aquafina went there. It's like, It's a public school, but is magnet? Is that what you call it? Magnet school? It must be a magnet school, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Where, you know, Tim's best friend, Leo went there. It's for people who are, like, very gifted musically. And it's this group of kids that met at LaGuardia High School, and they started a band called Whatmore. Their first album comes out in October, I think, like October 6. But they have a bunch of videos on TikTok, and I am obsessed with them. I feel like they're my sons. I love them in a way that's not always. Okay, I've showed Silas so many of their videos.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Salas already has a favorite member of the band and wants to just watch, wants this one member of the band over and over again. And it's a big part of their appeal is actually their filmmaking. They're so advanced with filmmaking. And it makes me think, where are all the teens in New York City who are like exposed to this kind of stuff and have the tools to like use New York City as their backdrop to make like,
Starting point is 00:12:46 crazy cool shit, you know? I want to be on that algorithm. I want to see what all the teens are doing. I want to see what they're doing with their iPhones. I want to see what's going on. They have one music video called Go for one song that they've come out with. And it's just them in one car with different shots of each of them driving over like the George Washington Bridge, over different bridges in like throughout New York City. And like the way that it's stylized and the way that it's edited is like so good. It's just so fucking good. I was like, this is the most fun I've had in days. And truly.
Starting point is 00:13:23 In days. They have like one video is like a promo for a song that doesn't, hasn't even come out yet. Wow. And it's like a guy holding a one of the singers holding like a double stuff Oreo like a boombox and a bodega. Just like singing the song with all of his friends behind him with like the camera above and they're like walking around and they're like walking around. like really use the space of New York City in a way that's like very compelling and well done. And I keep showing people these videos. And I'm like, you guys, look at my sons.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Look at my sons. Look at what they're up to. Look at the way they make the most of New York City as a backdrop. Come on. My sons. One of them works at McSorley's as a bartender. And that was a bar. That's the oldest bar in New York City.
Starting point is 00:14:13 He's worked there since he was 17. I think they're like 20. years old now. You know what I mean? He's worked at the bar. I don't know if he was a bartender. He's worked at the bar. You can work at a bar when you're 17 in New York City. Yes. I worked at a bar when I was like 14 in Maryland, but still. So he does this whole like West Anderson opening about the bar, but then it like splits halfway in the middle and then it turns into like a real life documentary like about his actual experience working at the bar. And then it turns into like kind of a music promo for this new song that they're doing. And it's like the tone shifts twice. It's like the
Starting point is 00:14:50 filmmaking shifts twice. And I'm just so impressed. I just love my sons. That sounds very inventive. How do you spell? How do you spell it? I'm trying to look them up. I want to see these boys. What more. W-H-A-T-M-O-R-E. And I'm like fucking obsessed with them. I'm sorry. I really hope they make it big. I don't know. There are a bunch of them. there's a lot of our career to go sideways when there's so many people in a group. Oh, they're like, yeah, they're just cutie boys. They're just little cutie boys.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Oh, Hen, your sons are really cute. Thank you. Which one's Silas' favorite? The one of the rappers, I don't know his name. Cute. I don't know his name. Okay. Well, I don't know any of their names.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Well, Henley, you were... You heard it here first. And you were the first to... The first I heard of Chaparone was for... from you. Yeah, that was a fluke, though. Chepa Rhone got famous so fast after. After you talked about it?
Starting point is 00:15:51 After, yeah, just after me. They'll see what happens. Okay, well, my scary thing is that I am thinking about joining Facebook again for Facebook Marketplace. I just like, everyone, it's come up so many times this past week of just like, everyone's getting shit on Facebook Marketplace. place now and I've had the same I've had this same debate and Joel and I talked about it recently and I don't want to create a Facebook account but seems like you got it if you want to get on
Starting point is 00:16:27 Facebook marketplace I didn't even notice you guys don't have Facebook have you when was the time you had Facebook both of you um I mean I don't look at Facebook ever but occasionally activated mine in I have really no concept of time. It could be five years. It could be 10 years. I know exactly when and why I deactivated mine, and it was 2018. Wow. I had to use it when I moved to Greenwich to basically do everything in Greenwich.
Starting point is 00:17:01 But that's a thing is it's annoying. You do need it for certain things. Yeah. Yeah, I think I'm going to get it. I just don't feel great about it but I also really want to stop shopping on Amazon and there's a target right by me but Target's also bad I guess. Target is bad. Everything's fucking bad and we're trying to we're trying to curb our spending in this
Starting point is 00:17:29 house as a form of protest against the government. Yes, no spending. Corporate America and it seems like Facebook marketplace is a is probably a good place to get familiar with. Buying things that are already out there, buying from independent and individual people. Oh, God. This has been a really tough week.
Starting point is 00:17:57 It's been a bad week. It's been a really bad week in the midst of a lot of really bad weeks. But it's been a, it's been a really bad week. It's been a really bad week. I think you should get Facebook I'm going to get Facebook and I'm not going to be there to make friends
Starting point is 00:18:17 I'm not here to make friends She's not here to make friends She's here to buy furniture And I don't know any other cool stuff That might be on there So Wish me luck What's on Facebook these days
Starting point is 00:18:30 Besides furniture? Anybody know? Let us know Let me know I don't even know how it works It's just like one big marketplace and you'd type in what you're looking for type of thing, I guess. Anytime you can do, I think you do it by region or like geographical location.
Starting point is 00:18:44 This is like Craigslist. Like within like 10 miles who's selling something within 10 miles me. But I don't know for sure. For me, when I go on Facebook, anytime I've been recently, it's like, I don't know who any of these people are. Like, who are these people? Yeah. I mean, I think if I were to make a Facebook, which I, again, might do for the same purpose when I move, how do you, like, I don't want to interact with anybody on there?
Starting point is 00:19:06 How do I keep anybody from like finding me talking to me? A fake name or do you have to have it be a real name? Because I feel like they might be like upload photos of your driver's license to make them. They don't do that. You never know. You never know. I don't know. I'll try to make a fake name and I'll let you know, Emily.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Just make your name because I also want to be. Just here to buy furniture. I make it like a fun. Just here to buy furniture smart. Furniture buyer. Furniture buyer. That'll get you. So many.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Everyone will take you seriously. All right. Well, shall we get in to this week's movie? Yes, please. Which is him. Him. Directed by Justin Tipping, written by Justin Tipping, Skip Bronkey, Zach and Zach Akers, starring Marlon Wayne's, Tyreek Withers, and Julia Fox.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Julia Fox just opened in theaters this weekend. And what do you guys know about him? I know it's not getting great reviews. That's true. I know literally nothing. I know actually 0%. I know it's about football. And that is all that I know.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Great. Well, you are correct. It has a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes. Okay. A 38 on Metacritic and a 5.5 on IMDB. Okay. So, yeah, you know, not great, not great. Not great.
Starting point is 00:20:37 The budget was 27 million and it has so far made 13.9 million. Also, you know, not a slam dunk right out the gate and given the bad reviews. Not a touchdown. I can't believe I left that on the freaking table. On the field. On the field. Come on, Sammy. These are all right here for you.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Left it on the field. field, I feel like, is the opposite of left it on the table, or am I being stupid? That's true. No, I think you're being smart. I think I'm being stupid. Because I did think field and I was like, no, that means the opposite though. If you leave it all on the field. You did a good thing. You left it on the bench. I thought about it, okay? I didn't leave that one on the table. You didn't leave it on the bench. I left it on the field. Left it on the bench. The bench isn't on the field. The bench is not the field. And that's bad. I benched it. You benched it. Well, but then you would have, yeah. Then you would have thought of it. But you were there's. But you did think
Starting point is 00:21:31 of it. And you benched it. I thought it and then you benched it. Yep. Thank you. Yeah. I'm glad we're going to really do a good job with this one and I can't wait. Yeah. So some trivia, it was produced by Jordan Peel and that has been featured very heavily in all of the marketing, as you would. I mean, you're going to want your horror movie to have that name attached. And I think that has probably a significant amount. out to do with the bad reviews because I think people like went in expecting a Jordan Peel level movie which it is not yeah yeah yeah yeah and that's not what a you know a producer
Starting point is 00:22:15 doesn't have to be really all that involved yeah so that's also you know sometimes i think like a stamp of approval and so i can see you know associating it with him but if with with he eh eh associating him with him, Jordan Peele. Him with him. But yeah, it's not a Jordan Peele original or anything like that. And so we got to just get that expectation out of the way. Okay. And then I'll tell you that the original title was Goat.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Just thought that was kind of fun. and just a little bit of that I thought was interesting from Justin Tipping, the writer and director. He said he did a lot of research into the NFL, and he learned about the corporate-like atmosphere of sports, which is increasing across the professional and college realms. Most leagues have embraced gambling, which can correlate to heightened harassment for athletes on social media. And in recent years, Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka have become vocal about their like mental health. Biles said there's constant pressure to perform at higher and higher levels throughout our sports culture. And this is becoming more and more prevalent.
Starting point is 00:23:44 There are very, very high expectations of perfectionism. And I had recently heard about the gambling thing and that because people can like specifically gamble on your performance in a game, that people like scream at athletes now just like I lost money from your performance it's like that's like not something I would have thought but it makes perfect fucking sense and like I'll I'll just say it again things are really bad really bad that's this is we this is all so bad yeah it should be regulated in a way that it's simply not I mean Tim sports gambles all the time and he only does like five dollars or ten dollars but tim wouldn't scream in the face of a stranger no but it's like tim understands that that was his choice to may of course yeah like at the games and stuff too right
Starting point is 00:24:40 like in in the awful stadiums all i know is that tim listens to the ringer obsessively bill simmons is like all the time and they have ads about sports gambling like non-stop and also bill simmons talks about it all the time or he's like, I'm putting money on this or I lost money on this. I see commercials for it. I feel like anytime I'm watching a television program that has commercials, there's always a gambling something. Yeah. It's just like mainstream.
Starting point is 00:25:07 It's just kind of like, everyone does it. I hadn't even thought about that people would then start like blaming into it. Like, oh my God. Yeah. It's, I just thought it was kind of fascinating. That's not like specifically explored in this, in this movie. but, yeah, I just thought that that was kind of a fascinating element of sports. Commodified literally everything.
Starting point is 00:25:34 It's wild. To be a good American is to consume. Just to consume. That's why we're getting on Facebook marketplace. Rapid pace. Yeah, get on Facebook marketplace. It's a dark hole that I have a hard time not going down. Because, you know, also I love to consume.
Starting point is 00:25:52 I love purchasing. I know. It makes you a good American. It's a sickness. Yeah. It's fun. I mean, damn. Yep.
Starting point is 00:26:00 Yep. I mean, we'll be, we'll be battling that dark hole for the rest of our lives. But let's take a look at this trailer. I think this trailer is excellent. Yeah, somebody described it as one of the best trailers I'd ever see. It's really fun. And it does, I think, I guess, it's also probably part of why people... were more disappointed in the movie, even though I think the movie's basically just this trailer
Starting point is 00:26:29 for 90 minutes. Okay. So I had fun. So what could be wrong with that? Okay. Let's take a look. Does this sound familiar? You sign up for something, forget about it after the trial period ends, and then you're charged.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Month after month after month. The subscriptions are there, but you're not using them. Starting point is 00:29:43 I said, do you want this? If you want to transcend the game, you have to dig deep. Your mind and your body have to be in sync. Talent is how hard you're willing to work. No days off. No sleep. We grind. I'm never good enough.
Starting point is 00:30:11 I'm never good enough. That's how great people think. So you're gonna have to ask yourself. What am I willing to sacrifice? This is the fucking game, man. This is everything. Do you want this? What are you willing to sacrifice?
Starting point is 00:30:49 You fucking say it. Say it. Say it. Everything! Oh my god I'm obsessed with this I mean the movie is basically just that and so I don't know what everyone's so upset about
Starting point is 00:31:30 Why don't people like it? We'll get into it. There are things to not like But I thought it was fun. Football is fucking scary. the whole setup is so scary the stakes are so high like it's really it feels it's it feels really not good american football feels really not good no well first of all they're the racial dynamics of like a bunch of white men being in charge of mostly black men and telling them like this is what
Starting point is 00:32:00 you're worth and this is what you have to do to be worth what we're telling you i mean that is like a new iteration of slavery to begin with and then on the second level it's like the most public forum with like Taylor Swift in a fucking box seat. Right. Bring in a billion dollars to the industry. I mean, do you guys think that Taylor Swift is secretly a lesbian and like just, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:26 you always have to bring Taylor Swift into things. You cannot talk about Taylor Swift. But I feel like she might be a lesbian and this whole thing with. A lot of people feel like she might be a lesbian. And this whole thing with Travis Kelsey, I feel like she is living. This is a thing. She's, like, living her life, whatever Taylor Swift's life is. I think she might be queer.
Starting point is 00:32:45 And then she's living, like, a public persona life. And it's like, well, I mean, how could she? I see, I see. I mean, I think every- No, a lot of people think that she dated Cara Delavine and Carly Klaus. Oh, I'm not out of the loop. I guess I try to stay so far away from Taylor Swift because I'm so scared of her fans. I just think that it is, like, notable that how much money she brings in.
Starting point is 00:33:10 and that's not something that people ignore. It's not an accident. Like, it's like that is, people rely on that. And it scares me. The whole thing just feels like too much money and too much, like, human bodies on the line for me to feel comfortable. And, yeah, human bodies on the line
Starting point is 00:33:28 and, like, specifically with football, just, like, running into each. Like, there's some, it's, it's so gnarly. I really, it's, oh. And, okay. Sorry. Yeah. And just like,
Starting point is 00:33:42 that really triggers something inside my brain. I'm sure that's what this movie's going to be about. I'm excited to explore it. But that mentality of like how talent is just how hard you're willing to work and how much of yourself you're willing to give up and give it your fucking all and you better do this 1,000% have no other part of yourself and no, like that is the most disgusting perspective to have on anything. And I like really, really like.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I like get so triggered by that perspective in any facet of life. And it's such a real thing. And it also feels like really deeply tied to masculinity, mainstream masculinity in a way that's like really gross. And just capitalism. Like like individualism. Give us more and more, more and more and more. And so it's Colin Kaepernick like trying to take a knee and then getting kicked out.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Like it's like this is political. It is. Yeah. I mean there's political stuff happening right now. in football, right? Charlie, they all, like, we don't have to get into this.
Starting point is 00:34:44 I'm sorry, but they, but they, most of the football teams, like, had a moment of silence for Charlie Kirk. And so,
Starting point is 00:34:52 yeah, it is, it's like, Jesus grace. I think so. I think so. Sounds right. I mean, I don't know. Everything's really fucking bad.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Um, we try, we, we try our best when we can do keep it light, but, um, things are really, really fucking bad. Well, I will say,
Starting point is 00:35:10 I don't think this movie goes too deep on anything. There's a lot of themes that we can go deep on in conversation. I would say the act of watching this movie feels like it's just kind of glancing at all of that and like adding a lot of style on top and like... And perhaps that's why people didn't. Like cinematography and costumes and lighting and stuff. And so, yes, it's playing with a lot of really intense and real themes and not really going deep enough. to have anything, like, super meaningful to say about any of it.
Starting point is 00:35:46 And so I see why people don't like it. But again, if you go into it, I went into it, seeing that 29% of Rot Tomatoes, I was like, okay, expectations down. I liked the trailer, and I had a good time. Great. I really liked that trailer. I made me feel so many feelings right away. So, yeah, yeah, get a lot.
Starting point is 00:36:06 Yeah, it's really good. Okay, great. let's get into it I will give a big disclaimer that I saw this two days ago and I I would have gone and seen it again for this recap because it is just like this is going to be a tough and so apologies but we got the we got the gist of it here and just like a lot of this movie is so visual and jumping all over the place and so I'm going to do our best you always you always do. And you always fucking, you leave it all in the field. You leave it all. And then you do leave it all in the field. Thank you. I'm going to do that. I'm going to do that. But next time, Sammy, just don't sleep. Give it your all. See it again. Do everything that you can. Try harder. Success is how much you're willing to sacrifice. So just take that note. Just take that note. And don't bench your best ideas. Stop it. Yes. Thank you. No more benching your best ideas. Exactly. Thank you. Yeah. Okay. We begin with a.
Starting point is 00:37:07 young kid and his family watching a football game. It's the San Antonio Saviors. And we see it like, I think starts on a shot of, they basically have like an altar built to this football team. And it's like has this religious undertone to it. The name of the team is the Saviors. And so there's a lot of parallels happening here with this like idolizing of this football star who we see on the screen played by Marlon Wayne's. The star quarterback is Isaiah White. And we see in this family's home, there's pictures of him on the walls. He's just like their hero, this little boy's hero.
Starting point is 00:37:49 The dad is speaking to the son, like, being like, look at this. This is like what a real man looks like. This is what hard work gets you. Like, he works hard every day at this. and like he's like clearly trying to instill this mentality into his son that he can work hard and get to the point that Isaiah is at. There's a part where he's like doing a little chant with his son. He's like, who are you?
Starting point is 00:38:17 And the little boy's like, I'm him. Who are you? I'm him. And that's healthy. Yeah, really healthy stuff. And then in the live telecast. the we hear like a oh my god and see isaiah white has fallen and his like bone in his knee has popped out through the skin and through the pants and is he's like screaming and pain oh i was at a football game once in college where it didn't pop out but the screen the like screen showed his leg like at the wrong angle and then like took it away
Starting point is 00:39:01 but it was just like, oh, okay, so we just watched him ruin his whole career like that. It was so gnarly. Oh, it's so sad, too. It's so sad. Oh, yeah. These are the fucking stakes. Oh, my God, it's so crazy.
Starting point is 00:39:16 And so the little boy tries to turn away and not look, and his dad makes him look, and he says, no, look at that. This is what it takes to, like, be the goat, is you got to, this is, this is, this is like what you're willing to sacrifice, basically. You have to be able to sacrifice anything to be the go. Your limbs. Yep. If needed.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Then we get a kind of montage, time passing. We're seeing this kid grow up. This is our main character protagonist, Cameron Cade. And now he's in his early 20s. He's, like, very promising, looking like the NFL is going to be scouting him. We see Isaiah White is still playing football. football. But there's questions of, is he going to retire this year? Who's going to be the next star quarterback to replace him? We're seeing Cameron going to different interviews. Everyone's
Starting point is 00:40:15 like, you know, feeling like it's going to be him. So he's got a lot of press around him. He's got a lot of pressure on him. He's trying to like stay focused on the game. But it's just you're like getting a sense of like reporters everywhere. And like it looks very. stressful. He stays up late to practice one night and he's on the football field and throwing into, oh my God, I was going to do this. The end zone. The field goal, the posts, the field goals. This is actually the episode that Tim should have been on because he's obsessed with football. The goal posts. They're goal posts. They must be. They have to be. And he, he, He's throwing, and they're hitting, the balls are hitting, the football's hitting the goalposts, the poles and bouncing out.
Starting point is 00:41:09 So it's like clear he's maybe having some like stress performance is not at its best. And he goes to pick up the football and it is just spinning on its axis, hot dog style. Hot dog style. Okay. And continuing to spin. Just continuous. Supernatural. Yes, in a supernatural way.
Starting point is 00:41:35 And he bends down to pick it up. And as he stands back up, we see behind him is a mascot. The team mascot is kind of like a goat with, well, there's two different ones. There's one that's a goat with horns that looks a little satanic. And then there's one that has metallic streamers all over. This is the goat one. is right behind him with a weapon that looks like an axe mixed with a hammer but also just has it's it looks bad this is a bad like a pick like a pick a pick axe yeah pick hammer yes
Starting point is 00:42:15 yes like um the dwarves do you use in snowy yes in the king but it does have a blunt edge the mine it yes it does have a blunt edge though uh in addition to the sharp edge point inside and swings it down on Cameron's head, knocks him out, cut to black, title, him. Wow. Oh, no. We come up in a hospital or doctor's office. Some time has passed. We see Cameron getting, like, checked up with, like, doing some brain scans,
Starting point is 00:42:55 and the doctor is saying it's him and his mom that are in there. saying if he gets another injury, like that's, that's it, basically. We see that he has like a two-inch long wound on his head that's stapled shut. And they're like referenced that we hear like a newscast in the background saying Cameron Cade was attacked and what, so he was, he was attacked. I don't know why some reason it felt like, well, that's not going to have been real, but it was. Oh, yeah, that is surprising. And it also just feels like a metaphor for CBT.
Starting point is 00:43:32 Like it's weird how that's not. Yeah. Well, I mean, I feel like that's the implication that if he gets a head injury playing, then he'll, yeah. Yeah. Which is so so nuts to just get multiple concussions. That's just a real thing. That news broke like 10 years ago. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:51 They were like, by the way, this causes like personality disorders and like full loss of self. And everyone was like, man. All right, well, we'll just keep doing it. We'll just keep on going. So we've also learned in this opening that his father has since passed away. So he is with his mom a lot and his cousin and his girlfriend, but we don't really get to know them very much. He obviously looks very traumatized from this incident. We're still seeing his team buzzing around him.
Starting point is 00:44:26 He's still trying to keep up the momentum to be able to join the NFL and, like, hopefully get in shape enough to, or, like, heal enough to be able to still make it this season. We see his agent played by Tim Heideker, like, amping him up and being like, it's okay, we're going to, like, we're going to get you back out there. Everything's going to be great. He kind of has a glazed over look. Cameron does. He's just, as you can see, he's... He's struggling. There's a scene where he is in kind of like a hair and makeup room preparing for, I don't know, some shoot.
Starting point is 00:45:07 And he's got his whole team around him. There's a guy buzzing his head. He's like completely zoned out as like everyone around him is like talking at him and like prepping him for this shoot. And it's doing like quick cuts and like kind of montaging and buzzing. and then you see his staple get nicked by the haircut and he jumps up and like screams in pain and oof. A staple getting nicked is like the worst thing. I don't know if it got pulled.
Starting point is 00:45:43 I closed my eyes. I didn't see it. I didn't actually see it. Oof. Also, Tyreek Withers, by the way, is in, I know what you did last summer. I can't remember his character's name. that but he was the real estate guy's son oh yeah i loved him in that i love him in this and i really hope that he's on the up and up because i want to see him in more stuff he's on the up and up
Starting point is 00:46:09 um so he's he's not doing well we're seeing he's not doing great he's going to uh parties drinking a lot he is like seeming more aggressive with his cousin there's a scene like a shot where his cousin is like bugging him and he like shoves him like really hard and his cousin's like whoa dude like what's what's what's what's going on he's like sorry sorry he's just like not doing great and then he gets a call from his agent Tim Heidegger and he tells him Isaiah White has personally invited you to come and train with him for a week to get you back in shape for the next season. He is thinking of stepping down
Starting point is 00:47:02 and he wants to make sure that you're the right guy to replace him. So this is very exciting news. This brings him back to life a little bit. He's feeling pumped, celebrating. And then head enough to go to Isaiah White's like, football compound in the middle of nowhere. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:47:29 It's really, it's a very cool, like, setting. It's basically in the middle of the desert. There's just this football field with a little, almost like, don't worry, darling style building over it, like, like that little bubble thing. And so he arrives there. And as they're pulling in, there's a little camp of the diehard Isaiah White fans that are being, like, held back by security. But they're like seem like they just aren't always there. And it has like a very culty vibe to it.
Starting point is 00:48:16 And as they see this like black SUV pulling in, they think it's Isaiah. And so they're like running up by Isaiah, Isaiah. and see that it's not Isaiah and that it's Cameron Cade because he's been on the news and stuff we know that this is one of the candidates for the replacement for Isaiah and this one woman
Starting point is 00:48:37 Marjorie is her name she like slams up on the window and says we don't want you and spits on the window and the guy next to him is like oh sorry yeah that's Marjorie she's pretty intense I like how they know who she is.
Starting point is 00:48:55 Yeah, I mean, she's there every day. Wait, sorry, but they're like random fans who are just waiting outside? Are they like part of his crew? No, they're just fans. Okay, okay, all right. But they know her by name. Very dedicated fans because we're out in the middle of the desert. So they have like camp, camper vans.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Camping there. Yeah. Wow. So now he gets dropped off and he goes inside. There are a bunch of Amazon delivery. boxes that he brings in that I thought was very funny but but just that's all we see of that there's okay just an amazon joke doesn't come back nope it's fine and he finds Isaiah in another room drying out animal hides there's like stretching like skin like hides and furs and stuff and there's
Starting point is 00:49:45 various like hunting trophies in the room Isaiah greets him says oh It's, like, so wonderful to have you here. You're an incredible football player. I have that game that you played and whatever incredible. And Cameron is obviously blown away by this. He's, this is surreal. I'm, like, such a huge fan of yours. We had your photo on my wall as a kid.
Starting point is 00:50:12 Like, my dad always wanted me to be just like you. And so he's meeting his hero, which you know what they say. They say don't to do that. And you might be right. Yeah, I think I agree. So he, like, reveals that he's been a little nervous about his head injury and Isaiah says something like, don't worry about it. This is going to be great.
Starting point is 00:50:36 And just, like, don't forget to have fun. Like, we're going to have fun. Are we telling us? It's not going to be fun, is it? We get some text, day one, fun. Okay. He walks into the, it's like an enclosed football. field. And he walks into that. There's like a whole team there. There's a, there's a medic and
Starting point is 00:51:00 other football players. We're going to be, we're going to start some training. But first, he has to get a physical from Marco, the physician, I guess, played by Jim Jeffries, who also is surprising to see. They tell him to take his clothes off. In front of him. of everybody and they started doing all the measurements they're measuring around his throat throughout this whole movie there's like lots of like close like we're seeing the tape going around his throat and we're seeing the inside of his mouth being like ha ha ha it's very like it's invasive well and it's it's very like what you do with like a prize animal yeah yes and also does feel like a metaphor for slavery yeah it's really yucky and I don't like it yeah
Starting point is 00:51:51 So they finish all their measurements and tests, and they tell him to put his clothes back on. And then they say, you didn't have to take your boxers off. This has been very uncomfortable for everybody. Which is your worst nightmare as a woman when you, like, go to get a massage or anything. And you're like, how much do I take off? Like, imagine at the end if the masseuse was like, um, by the way, you didn't need to take your underwear off. It's also like, you could have, like, humiliating. Yeah, it's like clearly meant to.
Starting point is 00:52:21 humiliate him because, yeah, they could have said that at any moment. And they do kind of say it as a joke and he kind of laughs. But it's just like, set in the tone of like, you're not feeling super comfortable around these people. Also, it's too remote to begin with. Very remote. Yeah. Stop it. Yes. So he goes back to his room. This place is very like Kim Kardashian-y, like stone everything, very minimalist. Big white bed. Big white band, monochromatic. Monochromatic. And we meet Isaiah's wife, Elsie, played by Julia Fox.
Starting point is 00:53:02 She's like an influencer type. She's got bleached eyebrows. Cool. It looks incredible. And she's very excited to meet Cameron as well. She's like, we're going to, this is going to be like, this is going to be great. She's like, Isaiah, like, sometimes gets a little grumpy because, you know, retiring. But, like, you're really wonderful and, like, I'm really glad you're here.
Starting point is 00:53:28 So she's welcoming at least. There are, like, various shades of welcoming, but there's something sinister. We're feeling it. We see at the end of the day after training, Cameron is in an ice bath, which always just looks so horrible to me. Awful. Absolutely horrible. he's just just sitting in it for so long and Isaiah's in the room as well with Marco who is taking his blood they have like a little blood bag IV station thing and he is filling like a pint of blood up
Starting point is 00:54:08 and they're like labeling it his blood for the day Cameron's like what's what's happening here Isaiah says My blood oxygen was really good today And that affects your performance And so I like to keep some on hand For when I needed like for a rainy day So Ah
Starting point is 00:54:28 Like a blood transfusion? Yeah, I guess And we're like Wait, but they're not They're taking Cameron's blood or just Isaiah? No, they're taking Isaiah's blood Because his blood oxygen was really good today Right, right, okay
Starting point is 00:54:39 And then Isaiah gets up to leave and he's like, all, I see you tomorrow. Marco, before he leaves, just walks up and injects something into Cameron's arm. Cameron says, what the fuck is that? And he says, trust me, you'll thank me later. It's for the pain. And so is he going to get him addicted to drugs?
Starting point is 00:55:04 We don't really know. I honestly still don't really know. It's just another invasion of his body. Well, your body's kind of my body. No, we'll know what it is, but he does also seem like it, it affects him like a drug in a way. He looks a little dazed, but we're kind of more thinking that it's Isaiah's blood. Oh, oh, which would be a good thing, because his blood oxygen level was so high. It would only be a good thing, yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:33 I'm sure that his body will, we'll just take that well, and that's just the thing you can kind of do. You know how we trade blood all the time? It's like that. Yeah. Yeah. That's what you do for your close friends. Yeah, exactly. So he...
Starting point is 00:55:48 Trade. Trade. I'm like, I'll take some of yours. You take some of mine. A pipe for a bite. They leave him in the room. He's kind of a little dazed in the ice bath. He goes underneath the ice.
Starting point is 00:56:05 And then there's a bit of a jump scare as he comes up. He's like splashed in... There's water splashed in his face. and he's in his bed and it's the next morning. So he's had some effects from his blood that seem not great. Day two, text, poise. Okay. I don't know that we needed these labels.
Starting point is 00:56:31 They really helped for the note-taking, though, and I was, like, excited about that. They help for the retelling, too. Yeah. So we see Isaiah and Cam running through the desert, in you know like big baggy sweatshirts you know how people run in the in the heat to get that extra sweat and Cameron stops starts throwing up and Isaiah just continues running Cameron lays down in the like middle of the desert and where it this is all like very
Starting point is 00:57:06 it's shot in a way to like be confusing like he's in like a different location. now and it's like playing with like what's really happening and what's not because now he does hallucinate the mascot again coming and hitting him in the head but then he like comes to and it's Isaiah like is like trying to like shake him awake and like hey check in on him and then Isaiah takes we're going back to the to the field to practice we're going to run some drills Drills. I never ever in my entire remaining days on this earth want to run drills. Me either. You won't. You won't. I think that I can, yeah, successfully avoid it. That's reserved for the youth usually. Yeah, I don't want to run drills. No. Oh, me neither.
Starting point is 00:57:56 And there's a lot of talks between them of Isaiah saying, you know, you got to be a lot of talk about sacrifice. We got to be willing to sacrifice everything. You've got to keep pushing and know it's hard, but we just got to push. Keep going. We're going to do some drills. They bring in a bunch of other big football player-looking guys. K.M. asks, who are these guys? And Isaiah says, oh, just some guys with nothing to lose. Don't like that. Oh, no. He says he needs a volunteer.
Starting point is 00:58:32 So this one guy with curly hair comes over. We don't really know what that's about. But they're setting up a two-second timer for Cam needs to, I don't know, punt the ball in two seconds, something like that. Who knows? Somebody knows, but not me. But basically it's like timing him to get under this two-second pass. And we're starting. And for the first, like, we're just doing it over and over and over and over.
Starting point is 00:59:03 And so he first like 10 times he's making it. It's like, great. Nice job. nice job, nice job. And then the 11th time it goes just over two seconds and Isaiah points at the volunteer curly hair guy who has been positioned in front of the football launcher.
Starting point is 00:59:23 It's like the spinning wheels that you put the football between, it like loaded into and it like flies out at top speed. And he's standing right in front of it. And so as, we look over they blow a football in and it's hits him in the face extremely hard knocks him over he's pouring blood from his face and cam is shocked by this trying to stop it is like you got to stay in the game you got to keep your head in the game are you going to be this kind of teammate you want this to happen to your teammate come on we got to keep going you got to keep going and he's just
Starting point is 01:00:01 like throwing him the ball and he like doesn't react to this one because he's still so freaked out of the situation. And so Isaiah's like, again, get this guy up, hits him in the face again with the football. And Cam wide-eyed is kind of like, okay, okay, okay, again, like gets back into it and starts like trying to get them all under two seconds again. And he gets a few under two seconds, but then he's so like, distracted and stressed that he's kind of fumbling more. And this guy's just getting hit over and over and over in the face with this football. and we're seeing teeth falling out. Minnesota Vikings from that quarterback documentary I watched where he had broken ribs already
Starting point is 01:00:46 and he was just watched in the documentary. It was just him getting hit over and over and over and over again. Kirk Cousins. It's fine. He's going to run for office. It's so brutal. It's present of the United States one day. It's fine.
Starting point is 01:01:02 So we make it through these drills. this guy survives but his face is so fucked up and he's kind of laughing afterwards we Cameron is no no no the guy that's been hit in the face so much and we know that guy yeah we don't sorry I thought Cameron was getting hit in the face no no I'm sorry yeah if Cameron doesn't do well enough I thought the volunteer was like hitting him in the face I didn't realize volunteer was getting him no it's the volunteer that's getting hit in the face has some sort of exercise to to try to put pressure on him to be a good teammate. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:41 So after this day of drills is done, he's being given another injection from Marco. We see this time more clearly that it looks like blood. Cam is kind of like, okay, yeah, it did help with the pain. He is getting like some effect from it. It's unclear what exactly. body snatchers? Is this like a body snatcher thing? I was like, is this a substance? Yeah. Or similar substance. Yeah. And I think it's, I don't think we're really going to get answers to any of these questions. It's just vibes, you know? And, like, hints at themes and messages, but
Starting point is 01:02:19 okay. So he's getting more injections. They tell him he has to go into the hyperbaric chamber for a while for some reason. And hyperbaric chambers are, like pressure chambers that you use when you go when you get the bends in scuba diving or to not get the bends to not get the bends to not get the bends or but if you have the bends that is where you want to go to a hyperbaric chamber I thought if you got the bends you're just kind of done I guess I don't really know maybe all I know is the beds is bad you don't want you don't want the bend even though it's a funny sounding thing it's not fun at all but it's not fun no so we see him he's a little
Starting point is 01:03:02 like confused why he's supposed to go in this hyperbaric chamber the the building all the rooms are like very stark and I said that already so he's just like left it feels like it would there would be an echo in there it's just these big like stone rooms that Isaiah like basically locks him in this hyperbaric chamber and it's like okay like you'll just like go to bed when when it's done And so we just see from the outside as the pressure starts going up in the room. And we see Cameron, like, holding his stitches on his head, like, just, like, in pain, like, kind of rocking back and forth in pain. And his, oh, okay. Cut two. Day three. Leadership. Oh, no. What's leadership going to be?
Starting point is 01:03:57 We see him calling. his mom oh by the way in the beginning they took away his phone they're like it's just football this week where so this is like a landline in another room and it's his mom's birthday and so he's snuck away to call her and he's he's kind of he's talking to his cousin at first and he's saying you know like something kind of weird is going on he's like disoriented at times it feels like he's like not immediately like this is really bad and I hate it I want to come home he's just like things are like a little weird here and I'm feeling unexpected I'm feeling kind of weird I miss you guys and he says happy birthday to his mom and I think Marco comes in and hangs up the phone for him
Starting point is 01:04:47 is like you're not allowed to make phone calls it's his football time but then Marco is kind of like are you sure you want to be here man like are you sure you want to sacrifice like family and stuff like I haven't spoken to my mom in years I haven't spoken to my kids and he's like how many kids do you have and he's like I don't have any kids but I mean if I did I wouldn't I wouldn't be allowed to speak to them and like is that the life you want like don't you want to choose your family and he's like Marco what and it's confusing we're like what is happening here it it definitely does seem like again We know something sinister is going on here, and that seems like people here are in a very, like, under lock and pee.
Starting point is 01:05:36 So he's kind of seeming like he's given him a little bit of a warning of like, you don't have to do this. You don't have to sign up for this life. And Cameron is like, I do this for my family. Like, my family is the reason I'm here. and I think Isaiah comes in at this moment and he's like yeah hold on to that where we're you got to have a reason it's like the long walk and don't mention that fucking movie to me and so he's he's saying that's good it's good to have something that motivates you I think we're back in the field now I don't know it jumps around a lot this movie's crazy and he says but you need to have a reason within you like not outside of you it so what are you willing to sacrifice well this is good advice well except for that part yeah then we push it too far and this is when he like screams in his face too
Starting point is 01:06:36 he's like what are you willing to sacrifice what are you waiting for and he hips him up before this little like warm up game or whatever you like practice game and And they've been kind of subtly telling him, or I guess not so subtly, like, being like, you're not pushing yourself hard enough. So you need to show me that you're willing to do this, like, for real. And so he gets, like, hyped up. And the, I don't know, ball comes to him. He's running full speed at one of the other players.
Starting point is 01:07:18 And they collide helmet to helmet. and the the screen changes to like x-ray vision and you see the other player's spine like break essentially or at least like at least like fracture and impact in a way that looks really bad and as he collapses on the ground Cameron it like changes back to normal we see Cameron standing over him and and he's like immediately flooded with everyone being like oh yeah was so good like great job and this guy is like on the ground kind of twitching and like not moving and everyone's just gathered around Cameron ignoring this guy we see like a hint of Cameron having like fear in his eyes and Tyreek Withers is so perfect for this part because he has
Starting point is 01:08:12 these like big like scared eyes that oh I just love him and want to protect him but he's also like being congratulated and like hauled away as like yes you're you're doing it you're making it closer your goal like you're going to be a star quarterback and so he's kind of like pushing that aside and they just like leave this guy there to die it seems like um yeah and he has a conversation with Isaiah where they're talking more about like what what motivates them and what the drive is all about and he says you know they say god family football Isaiah is saying this and Isaiah is like for me it's football family God they're in the sauna together you need God God no God well yeah at this point I'm like yeah because I feel like you're
Starting point is 01:09:04 like satanic you're doing something satanic here and so of course God's not number one of course God's not number one not your number one guy and then he leaves him alone in the sauna and where you're seeing like a wide shot of him on the bench and from underneath the bench he like lays down and underneath the bench crawls out Marjorie. Oh, that's funny. Marjorie's genuinely a pretty scary moment. Anytime it's like someone's been there the whole time
Starting point is 01:09:42 and they crawl out from the dark. Especially it's like it's really hot in there Marjorie. Marjorie. Like how long have you been in here? It's hot. Are you hydrating? So he's laid down on the bench with his eyes closed, and she has a big rock with her,
Starting point is 01:09:56 and she lifts it up above his head. Like, she's going to smash it down. His eyes open at the last second. He's able to, like, push her back, and she's attacking him again with, like, trying to hit it with the rock, saying, like, we don't want you. We don't want you.
Starting point is 01:10:13 Oh, right. She doesn't like him. Him being here means Isaiah stops playing football, and that's her guy. She needs, I say, yeah. And she's attacking him and attacking him. And he, like, restrains her, but then starts choking her and is, like, really choking her, killing her.
Starting point is 01:10:32 Looks like she dies. He looks panicked when Isaiah comes back in and is, like, oh, like, checking on him, are you okay? and there's her like there's two other guys from the like weird fan cult that have like football head masks on that are like scary and weird but then when when it seems like she dies they like take take them off and they're like painted all white wearing all white and they like run to her sides and they're like mom mom mom but I don't know if it is is there's part of a cult I think it's yeah it's a football cult it's a football cult it's a football cult it's a football Well, maybe it is their mom, but it seems like that's maybe just what they call her. I don't know why I need to make that distinction, but while watching it, I was like, I don't think that's their mom. I don't think that's their mom. I don't think that's their mom.
Starting point is 01:11:30 I'm not buying it. I'm not buying it. And Isaiah tells Cameron to leave, like, go to bed. He's like, I'm so sorry. Like, this happens every once in a while. Like, these guys are really intense. And Cameron leaves, and we see Isaiah go back in the sauna, and Marjorie wakes, like, comes to, she's not dead. And she runs to Isaiah with, like, heart eyes, like, Isaiah, we love you so much.
Starting point is 01:12:02 And he throws her back with, like, such force that she hits her head on the wall, and it just, like, cracks and bleeds, and she's, like, for sure dead now. And I guess probably kills the other guys I don't think they do I don't think we see that But what is Isaiah's deal Isaiah what the fuck Not a good man So we see in
Starting point is 01:12:27 Cam's room He's packing up his stuff He's like freaked out And he's like Well I just killed a lady So it's time to go I'm gonna go This doesn't feel like me
Starting point is 01:12:35 I think he sees that she doesn't die God I'm sorry I can't remember That's okay either way Time to go Either way That was really freaky he's freaked. He's absolutely freaked. Yeah. And so he's packing up and he's head in towards the
Starting point is 01:12:49 door when Elsie, Julia Fox, stops him and says, I really hate to see you leave. But I'd love to watch you walk away. I'd love to watch you walk away. She has an assistant that has been like making eyes with Cameron every time they've interacted. She's a total babe. And they're like, but we're having like a little party tonight. Like, do you want to stay for the party? You can leave tomorrow first thing. We'd really love to have you. And he stays.
Starting point is 01:13:27 Yeah. Okay. Isaiah's not going to like that. No, he sure isn't. And we see, yeah, there's just like very strobey, ravey, DJ music and all sexy ladies dancing. And there's probably drug use happening. Cameron seems like pretty out of it and cut to black wakes up the next morning Isaiah at his bedside holding a gun to his face so yeah he's not he's not happy and he's saying did you fuck her
Starting point is 01:13:59 did you fuck my wife she Cameron says no I have a girl at home and he says it like I'm a girl at He says it, like, really sweetly and seriously, and, like, we didn't see if he cheated on her or not, but... The audience is convinced. I don't know. I mean, it's like... I don't know. But, yeah, we don't want him to be shot for whatever he did last night. Sure.
Starting point is 01:14:32 But I think it's enough... He seems, like, sincere enough that Isaiah believes him and is like, All right, let's take a break from football today. Let's go do some shooting. And so they go out into the desert with their little targets, basically like scarecrow-looking guys, some with mascot faces, some with probably like other football team player faces. We've got rifles and we're shooting back and forth.
Starting point is 01:15:05 Cameron says like I can't believe I can't believe I almost killed that woman that was really fucked up and Isaiah says what woman what are you talking about and Cameron's like what's like is he going crazy what's going on and then Isaiah says just kidding I know what you're talking fuck okay uh hilarious joke so funny and then they run out of targets and so they bring out what is clearly like a human in a mascot costume but it's done in a way that's like they're acting like it's not they're like this is a stuffed guy type of thing this is just for shooting practice don't worry about it and Cameron they're like okay here you go shoot this guy this is the target Cameron shoots him and he slumps to the ground in a way that again is very very clear that this was a person inside this mascot suit Cameron is doesn't seem to recognize that he has just killed someone he's like this has been a fun day I guess um
Starting point is 01:16:29 next day day five vision and i'm sorry things are probably getting missed left and right because this movie is is pretty wild yeah he's having a photo shoot uh we're getting near the end of this week it seems like you know they're liking him we're getting kind of the go ahead the green light for this is going to be the next guy so we're taking some photos Kelsey is so excited and she's like, this is like, I'm so glad you stayed and, like, you're going to be such a great quarterback, such a great addition to the team, such a great, like, predecessor for Isaiah or whatever, not predecessor or whatever, the opposite. The opposite of predecessor.
Starting point is 01:17:22 Whatever they'll leave it on the table and leave it on the field of predecessor is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. the, there's a word. Yeah. Successor. Successor. Successor? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:32 Successor. She's really such a great successor to Isaiah. I'm going to take. From the show, success. That's right. That's right. I don't know why. That didn't even come close to my brain right now, I think is operating at 7%.
Starting point is 01:17:47 Seven? Yeah. I might, I might be at eight, but only because it's a few hours earlier here. I was like, I was like, it's not coming to me at all. I mean, that happens to me with real basic words. Successor, I'm like, yeah, that was a hard one. That was a hard one. That was a hard one.
Starting point is 01:18:02 Yeah, that makes perfect sense. So then Elsie takes him to, she's like, I'm going to take you to another party tonight. I want you to meet the owner of the team since. Elsie, we need to not be going to parties with you. Yeah. Does Isaiah know this? Isaiah, oh, one thing that I forgot to say is that Isaiah does leave early a lot. He like checks out and he always says, I'm going to go watch some.
Starting point is 01:18:25 tape, like, meaning watching previous games, but it's done in, like, a very Patrick Bateman way of, like, I need to return some videos. Return some video. He just gets up, and he's like, I'm going to go watch some tape. Time for me to go. So, we're going to this bar in the middle of nowhere.
Starting point is 01:18:42 I guess everything is in the middle of nowhere. But you do feel very isolated and everything in this movie. And so we go in, and it's this kind of undercover, like, hidden from the public club that's fancy DJs, porn drinks, very, very, very fun.
Starting point is 01:19:04 He sees Marco there, and Marco gives him a hug. He's like, hey, yeah, I was really excited for you. And as he hugs him, he says, run. Oh, no. Don't like that. But it's loud music is blaring. Cameron does a double take kind of did I, did you just say that? We're not sure.
Starting point is 01:19:20 We are sure, but Cameron's not sure. And he kind of is about to meet the owner of this team. So he continues walking with Elsie and sits at this table, which, of course, yes, is like all old white guys that are his new bosses. And she says like one of them is the old guys, the owner's son. So he'll be the next one. So it's just all this like row of old white guys that are just staring at him like, we're very pleased to have you. Ew. Sick.
Starting point is 01:19:50 And also sick how it goes to like the family members. because it's like, what qualifications does the family member bring to the table? And Elsie does say that, she says, he'll take over because, you know, nepotism. And they give him a drink that looks like blood. And he's drinking that, and there's all, like, stroby lights or effects.
Starting point is 01:20:14 It's, like, clear that he's getting pretty fucked up and they're all, like, smiling like, yes, yes, we love having you here. It's cutting, like, he's in, like, different rooms jumping around. He sees all these, like, mascots, the goat mascots and, like, the shiny dangly tinsel mascots. It's all, like, very disorienting and weird. And he's just like, I guess, yeah, this is good. I'm going to be on the team.
Starting point is 01:20:45 And then he ends up in a room where it just has the head of the mascot goat costume on a table and there's like blood dripping out from below it and he walks up to it and lifts off the uh mascot head and inside is marco's decapitated head oh no that was fast marco who cut your head off well he was with elsie when marco said run um yikes so Well, that sucks. He's maybe being punished for not going along with the plan. And then he like blacks out. And we wake up, day six, sacrifice.
Starting point is 01:21:38 Oh, boy. Okay. We are going to find out. Cam wakes up on a bed of ice. Don't like that. Like a honk of meat. Like a honk of meat. Like a honk of ice.
Starting point is 01:21:53 hunk a huck a meat on a hunk of ice. Mm-hmm. And he can't move his legs. He's hooked up to a bag of Isaiah's blood. It's labeled, it's just going into his veins. He pulls that out and flings himself off the table and is army crawling toward a tray with one of the syringes that says written on it, run. and he injects that into himself, and it does give him a big kick.
Starting point is 01:22:29 And we do find out that this blood is different than Isaiah's blood. It does look like blood, but we're about to find out what it is. Because after Cam injects himself with it, he looks like he's like gaining some strength back, and he walks down the halls and finds Isaiah in the room where he's watching tape. which is just this movie room with a circular screen above him and he's like laying horizontal and the screen is just playing like a stadium 360 cheering he's just watching an audience cheering oh that's so sad it's actually really really really sad and cam walks in and he says isn't it beautiful and we see cam is getting captivated by we're seeing close-ups of
Starting point is 01:23:24 just like people cheering and cheering he's like doesn't it just feel so good doesn't that feel so good um we see in corners of the room there are football jerseys lit up like on display uh various football jerseys looking kind of like older and older more more vintage more kind of worn and this is where we get a somewhat of an explanation of what's happening which is that they take the blood of the predecessor and give it to the next person and so he's like you've been getting my blood like I got my mentor's blood like he got his mentor's blood and that's like why we're so good and why we're so powerful and so that blood that you just injected into yourself that wasn't that wasn't mine that was like my mentor's mentor's mentor
Starting point is 01:24:15 tours like you feel like that's the good stuff right like you're feeling pretty good right now right and Cameron is like looking really out of it but like feeling like hyped up and and they're in this room and Isaiah says something about you know when two gladiators enter a ring only one can leave like are you ready to do this and they're going to fight to the death why and he says only one of us can walk out, walk out that door. And the exit of the room is the like entrance onto the field, you know, when players enter the field and they run and are like cheered as they're entering. It's like that. That is the exit from this room that only one of them can go down. And so they fight. It's gnarly. They're presumably both hopped up on mentor blood.
Starting point is 01:25:14 Mentor blood, the best kind. And so we're getting pretty injured. Just hand-to-hand combat. Hand-to-hand combat. And then there's a moment where Isaiah knocks Cam down and then gets on top of his arm, like the top half of his arm and bends the bottom half the other direction, breaks his arm like 90 degree at the elbow. it's so gnarly and seeming like Isaiah has the upper hand and also I kind of feel like the implication is that this has been happening every year until he's like finding someone that can take his place oh right like pushing off his retirement yeah yeah yeah I think so there's no real
Starting point is 01:26:04 answer but that was kind of what I was he's like kind of jaded to it yes like he's like here we're doing this again yeah like here we go again yeah and So he seems like he has upper hand, but then Cam grabs one of the football helmets off the wall and swings it at Isaiah's head, knocks him down, and then just like continues bludgeoning him with this helmet. Yep. And kills him. Wow. Okay.
Starting point is 01:26:37 And oh my God, you guys, the next, I'm so sorry that this is not going to be great. description of what happened because like what even is happening he walks down through that exit onto the field with a nasty broken arm with a nasty broken arm covered in blood so out of it and just what is happening and as he gets out onto the field there is a table with elsie the owner of the saviors, his son, Tim Heideker, and there's like five people. It looks very ritualistic. They're all like in goat costume, but like more satan-y goat, black philippe. It's not fun, cute goat. Well, all goats are cute, but they're all cute. But so like there's something satanic happening here. There's a big, what do you call, pentagram thing on the ground. And there's all these
Starting point is 01:27:43 cheerleaders cheering they have like weird creepy masks on and he walks out and they're so happy they're like you did it you're going to be the new quarterback we're so happy for you all that's left to do is sign this contract and sign me up this has been fun he's walking towards them trying to figure out what the hell is going on and gets up to to where he was going to sign and he says, no. I'm not doing that.
Starting point is 01:28:24 And then he grabs that weapon that we saw earlier and he just starts killing them. Oh my God. I was going to say they're not going to like this. Yeah, he kills the owner of the team. and I can't remember really how
Starting point is 01:28:43 but he's just swinging this thing and then Elsie gets up to try to stop him and she grabs like a sword from somewhere but then as she's going to stop him she trips and she falls on it and she slits her own throat and then he's I don't know just killing everybody's covered in blood
Starting point is 01:29:04 and then he gets to Tim Heideker his agent who is like his agent Tim Hydecker who actor Tim Hydecker who is his agent who is like completely panicking and he's like oh my god you have no idea you've done like you fucked it up you fucked it all up and like you'd better just kill me because this is going to be so bad and he doesn't kill him he throws the axe thing pickax down and he's like no and starts walking out of the stadium covered in even more blood now and we see Tim Hideker be pulled by a demonic force into the center of the pentagram on the ground, like spread eagle, spread arms and just like in the middle of the pentagram.
Starting point is 01:29:57 And then he explodes. Okay. Okay. Probably better than getting pickaxed to death. Yeah. Unless he's in football hell now. Well, he might have been in football hell either way. Did Dante forget that ring of hell?
Starting point is 01:30:12 Football hell. And then Cam walks out of stadium, leaves, and that's the end of the movie. Okay. That's it. Yep. Okay. I had fun. It's fun, but it is also so messy. It's an absolute mess.
Starting point is 01:30:28 Yeah. But I think in a fun way, I'm like, it's taking a lot of big swings. It's not really cohesively landing any of the points that it's trying to make. but it gives you something to chew on yeah it's also not like there's at least from the retelling and from the trailer it seems more like visual and almost like music video style yes it feels like a long music video yeah it's not a lot of like deep conversations or like lingering meaningful shots it's like yeah she's like that's fine a heavy handed metaphor for an hour and a half which which but i think probably probably
Starting point is 01:31:07 people did go in wanting that and I think that's probably a big part of why it's gotten bad reviews is because it is like a really interesting sub there are really interesting themes in here that it's like playing with that would be cool to see that the other version of that movie but this one's not that this one's not that that's okay and that's okay with me I love Tyreek Withers we love him I love Tyreek Withers too I love him and really a Fox and Tim Heidegger and that's enough for me and Marlon Waynes is great in it he's never I've never seen him do this type of role yeah it's very fun to see him just go in absolutely ham villainous evil satanic football quarterback I wanted it to be more satanic I think if I had a note I think
Starting point is 01:32:07 Yeah, I mean, if someone's going to explode on a pentagram, it's like, let's really do it. Yeah, I'd like to see, because there's almost like a Rosemary's baby element to it at times, too, where it's like they're all like planning this thing and he doesn't know about it and he's like secretly being forced into a satanic cult, which I think it is, I think that is what's happening, but I don't know, it just felt like it could have done it a little. Do you think the implication is that Isaiah has to do this literally every year? Like he's had to do it every year since he was the goat from the beginning. Oh, interesting. Because that would be really fucking crazy. That would make you. Like every year he has to prove himself again.
Starting point is 01:32:45 Interesting. Maybe. I don't know. I was kind of only imagining it like once he was kind of done. Like retirement age. Yeah. But that, but maybe, maybe. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:32:59 I mean, that would suck. We'll never know. Yeah. That would suck. It's just like who would sign up for this willingly? Like, it's not worth it. Sorry. It's not worth it.
Starting point is 01:33:06 No. and he doesn't right and what's he going to do now you know yeah that's the other thing is that the ending of it i'm kind of like so what's what's the message there he's just like yeah so he didn't get pulled into the pentagram because some demonic force doesn't have his soul right he hasn't signed the contract he didn't sign the contract he's he's a good he's a good guy the point of the movie is he's a good guy and we love him yeah I really do
Starting point is 01:33:39 Tyreek Withers he's great Wow you guys That was that was it That was Hellchella That was it Do you know what I've had playing in my head For days when I think about how It's the end of Helchella
Starting point is 01:33:50 As we go Oh wow Vitamin C On the time Turn the thing about the rest of our laps Where we're going to be when we turn 25? Keep thinking I've never changed. I remember being in middle school hearing that, being like,
Starting point is 01:34:10 I would, I remember, I would, like, sobbed lesson to that song when I was graduating from eighth grade. I was like, oh my God, this is so true. Where are we going to be when we turn 25? So profound. As we go. Oh, vitamin C what happened to her. She signed the wrong contract. Yeah, don't sign that contract, you guys.
Starting point is 01:34:34 You don't want to sign that contract. Oh. Come on whatever. It's been a beautiful two-held, Tuchella. I don't want to be over. I don't want it to be over, but the spirit lives on. And as we go on, we remember all the times we had together. Exactly.
