It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the Coppull Chevrolet GMC Studios. Here is your host, Derek Pearson. Brought you by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul. On 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com. Buckle up, boys and girls, one-on-one on a Wednesday. We've kind of, we audibled. I want to thank my buddy, Dave Turcott,

the Olympian who was scheduled for tonight, but the local news takes precedent and the Husker news is not good. Lots of questions. And Harrison Arn sits next to me and I will bring him in and allow him to have his voice be heard today as well so we can figure out and reach some level of comfort

and peace of what's going on. To start him in text line, it's 402, 464, 5, 6, 8,5. Put it in your phone so you have it, put it on your laptop so you have access to it. And what I promised and committed to was to try to get to as many of your texts in the next hour as humanly possible. As many as you put in, we're going to try to get to them.

I'm going to scroll for its first end and that's what we'll do. But before we do that, I want to give Harrison Arndes the opportunity to be heard. So Harrison, you spoke to being in pain. Yeah. Came to a surprise. I mean, without getting too emotional,

I just feel like I could come up with a litany of ways that this just could have been handled better, especially in just terms of communication. Like, that's the easiest thing, grade one, you know, especially it's something we talk about here constantly, communication, communication. And that's just a basic thing you do out of respect is you've got to have that communication.

And it just felt backdoor, the fact that the Aggies, they're the ones to the punch. That's the statement we read first. Like, all of that just isn't a good taste in your mouth. the fact that we had to hear it from Texas A&M before Nebraska. That's what bothers me. There's so much in this thing. And I want to, and again, I don't know if you caught the previous two hours to go through what we went through.

One, through the speculation aspect, then the rumor and then the actual statements being made, and then the actual execution of said statements. And there's a common thing in this thing, right? that you said a thing just a few moments ago that Nebraska is so fortunate in its fan base. So much so that it's all that it knows and it may take it for granted. That no matter what success on the field

or whatever shenanigans are going on behind the scenes, Husker fans show up and rally as well as any fan-based, alumni-based state in the country. And a part of my love for Husker Nation is that fact that people care. And they show up. And today, the actions of people who had positions of power and authority did not match with what you deserve.

Because if there are other things going on and you felt like it was time for a change, that should have been handled then. And then today, you could have. have just said what was going on and that we were going to fix the things that were wrong with the athletic program. If Trev felt like there were things wrong that were going on, he had time every day with a microphone and a full voice to say, these are the things going wrong, these are the things that need to change.

Here are the roadblocks that exist. Here's the friction that I'm facing and I need Husker Nation to know. I love you so much that I'm willing to throw myself on the grenade. and put myself out there. And they would have supported him. They would have rallied because he stood up and did the, he was the person they thought he was. And then he became the guy that they were afraid.

He was that he was keeping secrets. And then to go and allow and have those conversations with other member institutions and make a decision to a point where they're making the full offer. And that media in Houston and College Station knew before the media and link, that the fans in Houston and College Station, Texas, knew before the fans in Lincoln. And then to post the picture as quickly as you could,

and then not be representative to your people, to the people that you were in the trenches with every day for all that time wearing those colors. You didn't do it. And the people in position of power, if you have information, give the information. You're not being good. You're not being right.

So here's the thing. We're going to go through this thing. One fan says, I am. This is Daniel from Campbell. He says, I'm physically sick about this as a fan. Daniel, we understood. He says, please read this. Noah from Lincoln.

Trev has stressed transparency his entire time, from coaching researchers to the stadium updates. This goes against that. This isn't what a Nebraska does. This is a betrayal. And nope. The next AD schedules tons of games with A&M so we can throttle them over and over. I wouldn't do business with a snake.

Yeah. I wouldn't do business with a snake. He didn't even tell his own people in the department and person. That's not a leader to me. Well, that's the other thing, too. It's like you're saying like the fans didn't know. It's like people inside high up didn't know before people at Texas. This is what the Texas said.

He goes on to say, Treves shouldn't be left off the hook here. And I'm seeing a lot of people going to bat for a guy who wasn't being genuine. Name names. It's a public university. It's my university. The public deserves to know. People keep talking about people behind the scenes being at fault. Who?

Regents, university leadership, donors, governor, legislature. I'm pissed. That's from the text line. That's not from me. Also from the text line. And again, I will get through as many of these and some will require some additional. A little censorship on top of it. little conversation.

We just got stabbed in the back. Treville gets what's coming to him at A&M. To rip to quit says, I'm glad I got rid of my tickets. Boo. That should be, look, I'm not telling anybody not to show up. I'm telling anybody not to buy tickets.

I'm not telling anybody not to support the athletes and the games. I'm allowing you to say what you want to say because you deserve it. Box neighbor says that staff and everyone else deserves better than learning about his departure from a lousy email. Yeah, it's been going around his email that's allegedly how all. Sharing it. Yeah,

how they found out was through an email this morning, allegedly. From the text on John and Cortland, of course, hey, A&M, your new guy got things pretty good here. And you don't think that could happen to you.

Somebody just wants to say, Dan Dixon says, DP, great takes. Thanks for guiding us through this. But it's a time to call a spade of spade. The underlying issues go to the top, sadly, from another black shirt, Jim Pillen. He's the reason Green Carter now Alberts are gone.

Going to miss him, though. That said, he owed an exit presser to the fan base. I agree with that. Last part of that. Absolutely. Is this the biggest sellout in Husker history? That's the question. How do we as fan get our voices heard?

This is how. and I will continually, and I want to stipulate here, tomorrow for me, during the daytime, we'll have a full staff throughout the day, and we'll be a part of this. But tomorrow we'll work to have you heard, to have you heard, and then we will share some of this stuff.

Texas says, don't build hate from this, build momentum and positivity going forward. The next AD has all the right people in the place to be successful. They have all the resources. I'm not sure they have all the right people. Well, they need an AD and they need the president. There's two people right there that they don't have. But I like the positivity.

I get what you're saying with coaches and banding. There's definitely some great coaches still in play, but you definitely got a couple sudden gaps. And this 80 hiring might be a very drawn-out process now with no president in place. Again, full permission to text your way through. If you want us to use your name, please do. This is from the text line. Treb quit on the universities today.

I wouldn't cover what he has. had to say. Just move on to the next guy. That rule might have someone in mind. Perhaps we can get the Penn State AD who hired him at Temple. From the next text, a University of Nebraska less than three years ago took a chance on a U.N.O. AD

whose biggest move was ending football and wouldn't have been hired by any Power 5 school and an alumni to lead them. They also signed him to a lucrative contract extension before football had a winning season. And how was Nebraska repaid by being stabbed in the back?

Next, Texter says, DP, my father did fundraising for Nebraska back in the 70s and 80s when they didn't have a whole lot of money and he did it for free because he loved the university so much. Grill Bear says, seems like they keep shooting the wrong Huskers

to keep choosing the wrong Huskers to represent the university. And that's a statement of truth. They're not getting it right. That's the word, because it's for the longest time we're like, man, what are we getting wrong here? And it's like, you know what? we're not getting Nebraska guys,

guys that get the culture, the pride, what the end fully represents. And oh and two on that. It's insane. That's not the way to get it right. That's where we thought. That's not the way to get it right. I was part of that camp for a while.

I was dead wrong by cross. But now I'm 0 for 2 here. You've taken two lessons and now you're smart. You're smarter. Seriously from the text on Tater says, I think this is worse than when Lincoln Riley left for, for, left OU for USC. Yep.

Jason, long-time listeners, says, What's Up, D.P? Alberts was bound to get a significant hand-slap from a new president and senators who are constantly nitpicking Nebraska budget and funding. The entire campus system, he got out now before things geek too dicey with Nebraska women's hoops lawsuit

from a former player. Alberts and others could have handled the hoop saga much better. The way he's leaving now, deeply angers Nebraska fans who loved Alberts, Nebraska needs to go get burned from Bama, thanks. Again, I'm not sure that if you know the person's name that they're the right person for this. You're going to need somebody that is so mission driven and so purpose and disconnected from people in positions of power who have their tentacles already in them, because that's how you got to where you are today.

That's the only way that happens today. Lemon says Omaha fans tried to warn us about his character he told their wrestling program that he was cutting them via phone

on their ride home from winning a championship didn't even tell them in person he fooled people with his words but his actions show you what he truly is made of now listen here's the thing

I'm not mad at anybody for being mad this vent I'm at you know don't curse right name call but vent listen you have Nebraska fans you your numbers are power and your voice is power and for far too long things have just been accepted as is because well what else is there well

there's voice here we go is I from the text line 5 324 from Campbell on Nebraska said I just feel betrayed for a man whose jersey is retired to leave the university like that is the ultimate gut punch for the first time in 10 years the entire athletic program felt like it had a serious had serious momentum this is an unbelievable setback the texter says support the athletes they are still here a 100% degree they deserve better as well they deserve not my line but fitting elect incompetence get incompetence the board of regents is a joke if you're in power

you are responsible from Matt and Lincoln he says this one hurts makes no sense so many great things happening in so many sports and now he steps away from Nebraska literally days before Husker basketball makes potential history with a win in the NCAA tournament

and he won't be a part of it at the time just doesn't make any sense. Now again, we still don't know why he's not here, why he had to, whether it was forced, implied, suggested, whatever that is, whatever it was. Powers of B and people in place knew, and they should have treated y'all better, no matter what the circumstances are.

Texer says from Colorado, focused on what the men's basketball team is about to do, move on from the snake and let's go cheer for them to make history. Well done. Again, you'll be your two days away. Phil says I'm really taking it back that people are surprised by what happens. This feels like the same thing that goes on all the time in all the other institutions and businesses. It all feels like it's just the current way the world works now.

I guess I never bought in to Treb that much at the start. If that's not how the way works, and that's not the norm and that's not the standard, stand up and say so. You deserve it. You deserve it. Kent says the department has been so mismanaged since Frank was dismissed. It continues. Downtown Scott says,

I'm sad and worried because I think it means things are very bad above tread. Said, from Nebraska 308, Dakota here. Here's what I'm worried about. Didn't rule mention how he. came to Nebraska because Trev was such a big influence. In fact, stating the truth. But once you get in,

again, we don't know, and they aren't telling. Everybody's wrong. We don't know, and they ain't telling. And there's a line from a movie that says, the mayor,

who was a wise old sage, he was a drunk, but he was a sage. And he says, look, mayor, those days, said, no, don't tell. And those that tell don't know.

That's true. That's a true statement right there. So we will get through that rule for AD. Tony White for head coach. I don't know what the next step is going to be or what's right. I'm just letting y'all be heard tonight and please get it through. Sanderson, buddy, how you doing? Says something in that leadership at UNL is very, very wrong.

I cover this program from firing of Solich through Iron Horse. It's been broken for a while, and I just don't know who is going to change it. The top of the top is broken. Gospel. Gospel. Yeah. In order to fix it, in order to fix it, you have to have different decision makers. But power won't allow it.

Power is greed and ego, and it wants ownership rather than right. And if you want to know who the next right AD is and the next president, if they tell you that when they get in a position of power, that they're going to choose right over ownership, right over money, right over greed, they're the right person. Right is required for the right person. If they're talking about that other stuff,

that means they're beholden to the people who are putting them in that position. And that's when things happen. Roger and Syracuse said, this sucks. All I'm thinking is, why? How much money do you need? Athletic director at a Big Ten school, it doesn't get more prestigious than that.

I'm a lifelong Nebraska, 67 years old. We have had season football tickets for at least 30 years, supported all sports as much as we could. I have a daughter. At Carney, things are looking up, I thought. I feel betrayed. Again, that's Roger in Syracuse.

Railroad of Matt said, Treadneve to give us a last party gift. Air the dirty laundry so we can fix it and move on with new leadership. Also unretired, number 34. Hey, man, say what you say, Matt. I think that's just real, real, like not everyone's going to have that. That's a taste in the mouth of some people right now.

At some point, just tell them. Like, why are we so afraid of the truth? Like, we're hiding from who we am and what we want. And it's true. Listen, don't let greedy people affect your happiness and your place in the world. People who are collecting dollars from you while they bask in your pain. They're benefiting from it. Listen, 90,000 people, 90,000 plus showed up for volleyball and set the standard for collegiate athletics.

You got a sellout streak that's second to none. A fan base that's second to none. Historically, you have some talent, some legends in your... There's no place I'd rather be on a Saturday in a full Memorial Stadium. Y'all deserve better. Y'all deserve better. Yippikaii says, I'll just leave it at that. You're dead to us.

You're dead to us, Trev. Texas says, just got out of getting a haircut. Is it official with Trev? Yes, it is official. Just look at Texas A&M social media. And there's a picture of Treb sporting. That's a bummer way off of fresh cut. Hey, Maroon tie.

Look, man, before he said by, he put on, he allowed Texas A&M to make a statement. And to use the fact that he was a Nebraska alum and legend as a part of their their their announcement. Ron Brown is the next AD. I'm not sure Ron Brown. I can't speak for Ryan. Maybe I'll ask him.

I'm going to have him on. He's on one-on-one Friday. That's great. At 6 o'clock. So I'm sure he'll have something to say in a leadership about good and not good. From the text line from Illinois, president left there. President left, was there an outrage? Yeah, there was.

A.D. left. Now outrage. Yeah, there was outrage. People were upset with the Ohio state. Oh, yes, there was. I remember working that. Yes, there was. Disc golf, Jake.

How are you doing, buddy? And yes, we're going to support your event. I'll say that publicly and commit to it. The people at the top of the state have crapped on the university for the last decade. Here's the impact. 100. Oh, man. Say what you say.

Charles from California. Cry and moan today. But let's move on. This will only add more fuel to the fire. Go big red. you got 24 hours to take to take and cope and deal and then the drive to get better forward and up everything everybody that's a point my like the fans here in Nebraska again are so great like that is with the emotions going on today you got one fan from california south charles sitting

there add more fuel to the fire he's going to be there for he's still going to watch all these husker sports it's just why that's why it's just the distaste because it's like man you are so lucky to have a fan base you know why nebraska boy ball day at nebraska works you know why that That's such a great selling point for Treve Alberts. Great idea. But also it's in Nebraska, a place that is going to die to support that. That's going to allow it to reach those numbers. It says, so can you check YouTube, make sure it's not echoing?

Yeah, we got that. Okay, you got it. And then first two minutes. And then shout out and thank you for the folks on YouTube who get a comment. In the next segment, we will read some of your comments. in a time where Husker Nation deserves to be heard tonight. You're going to be heard, especially in this next hour. Texas says, assuming the top is so bad, how bad is it to quit via email? Seems like that guy isn't a leader at all. How would you feel, D.P., if I said, hey, I'm not coming in. I sent you an email and I didn't come in and face-to-face and tell you why I'm leaving and I appreciate, you know, the opportunity, but I'm going to go on elsewhere. If I just shot you an email that day and said, hey, it's over.

I can't even fathom. I can't. I'm a person person. I'm a human person. And so I work from that. We was talking to Austin and said, I can't imagine, can you imagine one day everything's fine?

You come to work tomorrow at the station and there's a note that DP is now running ESPN. He left the ticket and didn't say goodbye to anybody. He didn't explain. Nobody was there. to kind of share. I just said, hey,

Jay, here's the keys. I'm out. Lost a lot of respect for you. Right, right, right. Like I said,

John and Cortland, a heck of a place, circumstance to restart. The administration is driving the bus. You all remember this ride. Yeah, listen, been there before,

but you can and do better by choice. Because you care. I, I live by love and action. And I know that the two have to be connected. You can't just say you love somebody and then your actions don't match. You can't be active showing love but then not actually meaning it. The two are required.

Look, whoever's going to lead the program as a coach, as an educator, as an administrator, as a booster, as a regent, as a fan. You have to love and be active in it. That's it. You can't tell me you love a thing and then you, but your actions are crazy. That's just crazy. Tater says, how badly is this going to affect our current players in future? 100%. That there are players who bought into the lie that everything was well, trust us.

That's the thing the adults are saying in the room. Trust us. Trust us. We know better. We're good people. Do what we're doing. Be like us. Be like us.

Be careful when you tell young people to be like you. They may copy you. They may believe you. That's a grandmother sage. Be careful what you tell people about you. They will start to believe you. And what the people in positions of power are telling the world about Nebraska is not true. Stop letting them talk about you that way.

Stop letting them treat you that way. That's terrible. Listen, I've been a rebel in this thing since I got here. I've been a rebel in this thing. Look, I don't have balls. You can't do, look, you can't come after me. Come down here and talk to me. This is an open door.

Every educator, legislator, Board of Regents, coach, administrator, the doors open the microphones on. And it's a fair mic, you'll get your piece. And they're two blocks away, and they could come down here and tell everybody everything they need to say. Crickets, wait.

They told me not to, not to put the students on air. You know why? Because the students are going to tell you the truth. They don't want the coaches on this. You know why? Because the coach is going to tell the truth. Because somebody's making money on them not coming over here and talking to you. So imagine all you listeners, all you texters,

imagine that the reason you don't hear from your coaches is because somebody down there is making money, not because they don't want them to talk to you. You're going to be heard tonight, though. Yes, you are. Yes, you are. and Lincoln. As a Texas fan, I now hate A&M even more.

Unfortunately, from the text line, he says, unfortunately, he's going to a place that has a crappy football and basketball program, Sparky and Lincoln. You know, he's going to have his own to deal with. Holdenboat says, I'd really like to know what Coach Rule Cook and Hoyberg think. I'm pretty sure that they will be the leaders that we thought. And they will just keep it moving and say they're focused on their young people because that's their job. Retro in South Lake, Texas. Also from New Jersey says, DP, we've never met. But we are now fast friends.

You're not your absolute class. Listen, kind sir, retro. Thank you very much. Greatly appreciate it. I'm always welcoming new fans and friends. Guerrilla bearers, if my kid ever quit anything by email, I would be so disappointed. All statements of truth. Like, don't ask, don't allow your leaders to have worse behavior than your kids.

Like, man, we really are asking for the bare minimum. Yeah. To the most important people in the state, the highest paid employees in the state, we're asking, hey, just don't be childish. When I was 16 working on a grocery store, I gave my two-week notice and talked to my boss face-to-face. He gets not that hard. You know, Bryce says this. He says, when the going gets tough, Trail of Alberts gets going.

Man, that is sad that that's true. From Tennessee, he says, so who is actually in charge at UNL now? We have no president, no AD, major construction projects, and NIO oversight to be managed, and no message of statement or of direction from UNL. they should be wiped from our program's history after this. Trev should. But where are the university leaders? Great question, A.B.

Great question. Where are the leaders? There are some great minds in this community that if asked, they would step up. Well, I like this one from YouTube. This one's from Nicholas. The worst part is that we'll never actually know what happened behind the scenes. And that's the most frustrating thing. At least if we knew maybe we could demand.

a change. You can demand a change because you know what you see is not good, a good representation of you. Like that's, that's a real thing that, again, from the mission, the mission of what the university says they are operating from,

they're not honoring that. They're not honoring that. And so you can say, taxpayer, alumni, season ticket holder, worker at the stadiums and arenas, parents and family of the student athletes, because these are the sons and daughters of Nebraska.

All. This ain't it. Listen, I've spent most, a lot of my, so broadcasting and coaching, I always did them side by side. and as a coach, I'm the coach that's brought in to fix things. So to identify what is wrong,

who's at fault, and to fix it. And I only ever had one year to fix any problem. So imagine programs that were bad for 15 years and you walk into it and you have a year, nine months, six months often, to get it right. And I did that for three sports

at every school that I was at. So you get to see, what bad leadership looks like. You get to see what bad administration is capable of. But then you also get to see the real win when the young people

get what they're supposed to get and the fans get what they're supposed to get. There's a way to do this. Nebraska has everything. Listen, they have you. They have this fan base. Rocking the red, a sea of red. Y'all deserve better.

you all deserve better. I'm just going to say it. We'll get back to it and we'll read some more. Do we got this one from Mike. Hopefully this is not why Brian Farrantz was here last week. Isn't that a gut punch? If that's the cherry on top, oh, my. Milkman says this, did they really not want you to put the student athletes on air?

I think it's great they're on air. Yes, they still restrict the student athletes from coming on and talking to you. That's a statement of truth. Look, they can be mad at me for saying it. It's the truth, though. It's the truth. When I got here, they told me, because there were no coaches or athletes coming on air.

And I said, well, why is that? That's strange. Sports radio, this is what it's supposed to be. And I reached out and I said, okay, coaches. And they said, okay, we have a flagship deal that restricts the six major coaches. So football, both basketball, baseball, volleyball. So I said, okay, the head coaches can't go. Give me the assistance.

Nope. We don't want the assistance because they represent the coach. They're attached to the coach. And these are the flagship programs. Okay, well, then players. Well, no, we don't want you. So they didn't want football players on this station. They didn't want basketball players.

They didn't want anything. But then the thing happened to that people, I'm like, wait a minute, I know the law. I'll honor your financial. agreement with some radio station that's not from Nebraska, by the way, that the money that you spend to your flagship, that's not Nebraska-based. This station is Lincoln owned and operated and managed. They're not.

That money goes out of the state. Okay, make your deal. Okay, fine. Part of why I wanted to show them that we could do the flagship thing. Right? We can do this. We can get people to work together to put signals out and get it across the state, get the games up, we can do that.

Okay. Then they told me not the major program, so I went bowling, gymnastics, soccer, tennis. Ah, we could do that. And here comes Heather Brink. Fred Hoyberg, Mark Manning, Buzzy Carruthers, Lance Harvelle, who wanted y'all to know what was really going on and to give you access. And then the students were like, well, wait a me. minute.

We love being heard. We love getting to talk to and take questions from the listeners, from the fan base. The people who buy tickets to come watch them actually get to talk to them because they cheer louder for you when they know you. You want to know who they are. More than just the number and the name on the back. You want to know their

story. You want to have that personal connection, but the athletes are so fond of watching. And part of why I root so hard for these good coaches, Mark Manning, Fred Hewberg, Heather Brink, Will Bolt was because they allowed Bryce Matthews, Cam Chick, Kyle Perry to come on the ticket, even though they were told down there, don't do that.

And what a privilege it is to listen to Kyle Perry and any of those guys. Right. Right. Like, they told, they told. And Mark Mann says, you know what? I'm coming myself. Like, I'm coming. Let them stop me. Can't beat me anyway. Get a fight. Right. And so the mission forward is we're going to have everybody. Listen, Ron Brown is, he's going to be on one-on-one. In this time slot, Friday, 6 to 7 p.m. It's his second appearance on 1-1. Why? Because Ron Brown got permission from Matt Rule to do a show on the ticket.

Man, I like Matt Rule. She's got a lot of respect for that guy. Right. Noorie, last night. Do you not understand what's required for young people to buy in at the level that the people who deliver these jerseys and share their lives with the ticket? and the listener because they treat it right here.

They treated well here. And we would do more if we're allowed. And we're going to do more. We're going to do more. Back to the text line. I never knew the true definition of the word befuddled until this afternoon. What the hell happened?

but that's why we focus nonprofits. This is why we focus on educators. This is why we focus on local businesses that need promotion. We focus on nonprofits that need the word to get out. out that you have a charitable event. You need, you're having a fundraiser. You're doing all of that. That there's a way for us to be involved in it.

And that's what we're for. But this is Lincoln Base. Now, Supernova's, that's a thing that's required to make the statement to local folks that, you know what? We're a big time station. We're local, but we're still big time. Go into the Super Bowl getting approval from the NFL, from UFC, from W. from the NBA, it's to show that we're good at what we do, that we do,

and that the big people respect us and our opinions and our talent. That they speak of Lincoln, Nebraska with pride, that they say the way they're doing, that station in Lincoln, Nebraska is doing it the right way. Because y'all deserve it, man.
