You're listening to one-on-one with DP.
Presented by Beatrice Bakery on 937 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Those are pretty solid commercials.
Those are some great commercials.
Dan.
Dave.
Right?
Dave and Dan.
Really, they went, do you know that they went and they hired Dan and Dave's ex-girlfriends to talk about them?
And then they brought in Dan and Dave's mom.
Oh, my goodness.
Brough, this is...
You know what?
I like it.
I like it.
They had...
So they pull up and go, yeah.
Dave's gonna win.
Like Dan's ex goes,
oh yeah, David's gonna win.
He's got to be more manned.
Okay, buddy.
And they ran, I mean, it was...
And then you look back at the shoes.
So they're like, you know, Dan saying,
hey, I've got the only pair of these new shoes.
They're not even available yet.
But Reebok made them for me.
And then Dave goes...
Yeah, Dan doesn't know that I have the only shoes that were ever made.
Because Reebok really wants me to win.
And they both had, they had the pump on them.
Like they were the first ones that had the pumps, right?
But for the, for the Catholics up, which I'm like, they're not wearing tennis shoes.
Like, what are you talking about?
You're, you're going to warm up in those, but you're not going to, you're not going to wear those.
And then when you look at them, I don't know how we played in the shoes that were available back then.
I have no idea.
So I'm old enough that I played in Chuck Taylor's.
So high top canvas Chuck Taylor.
I can't even walk around an entire day wearing Chuck Taylor's
though my arch is starting to hurt.
Right.
I can't imagine trying to play anything with Chuck Taylor's on.
Like I put my foot up.
So when Becky and I got married,
we chose that we were going to wear Chuck Taylor's black kind of us with our tucks.
With the tucks.
And I put my feet in.
I was like, this is not what I remember.
I don't remember this.
And then the Converse All-Star, so the leather Dr.
J, single star with the thing on the side, right?
That then became, when I got to high school,
that was the first year, those were available.
So the first leather shoes,
which you would think leather would be heavier.
Right?
Yeah.
And then they were also the first,
like you get them in low top or high top.
if you put your foot in them now,
it's like wearing a boot.
It's a boot.
Because you didn't have the technology, right?
Yep.
And they were,
they were all flat,
which goes against,
like flat,
flat,
which goes against.
Well,
even now they're still flat.
That's what I'm saying,
I can't walk or I can't wear them all day.
Like,
I have a pair of check time.
I can't wear them all day without my feet starting.
I've got something in my closet.
I'll wear them tomorrow.
Like,
I just can't do it.
I'll wear them tomorrow.
I've got the ones that I got married.
or whatever tomorrow.
But if you put on like the Commerce All-Stars,
the Dr. J's or the birds or whatever they were magic,
it feels like you're wearing boots, like Timberlands.
Yep.
Except for Timberlands have better souls.
Yeah, better arts support.
Like much better, right?
So I don't know how anybody did anything athletic.
You know something funny?
When I wrestled in middle school, my first year,
I had a pair of wrestling shoes,
so I just wore the shoes that I had.
There were Timberlands.
My first year of wrestling, I wrestled in Timberland.
They did not let you
Which is another thing
Like I thought
I wanted to long jump
We're wearing wrestling shoes
They're very comfortable
They're very comfortable
Like there was a three month stretch
In high school where I wore wrestling shoes
As my tennis shoes
They were amazing
The grip is amazing
It was amazing
They were light, super light
You didn't feel like you were carrying shoes
Like you didn't feel like you were carrying leather around
Same for baseball.
Our spikes back then?
Oh my goodness, they were bricks.
They were bricks with like steel.
It was terrible.
If there was a way for me to take like the plate off the bottom of my running spikes
and just wear them as shoes, I would because they're so comfortable.
Like I don't know.
I don't know.
They just hug your feet now.
Yeah.
I mean the technology.
And then so for Little League, like when you go back and you see kids in the 60s playing baseball,
First of all, we didn't have real helmets.
I'm young.
I'm old enough that we played where you had the ear flaps with those elastic straps that went across her head.
Oh.
And the uniforms were flannel.
That sucks.
Oh, 95 degrees in flannel.
Like the gray sweats?
That sounds awful.
Nope.
Like we didn't recognize it.
Like 90 degree heat.
And then the next year.
So when I got when I was 11.
when I was 11, we got new uniforms.
And they were polyester.
And I was like, this is amazing.
And it also went from wooden bats to aluminum bats.
So all the technology caught up, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, you're right.
Dusty, you're right.
You said wrestling spheres were practically like a hospital sock with a grippers at the bottom.
Have you?
Okay.
I don't know if you ever have done like wall climbing.
like the rock climbing walls, the shoes that they give you for those.
Yeah.
Fantastic.
They're like wrestling shoes, but they're extra grippy.
Yeah, I did.
The thing with it was.
I went bouldering once where you don't have the line connected to you to climb up very high.
I don't know if they were A6 because Nike and Adidas hadn't gotten into it.
So it looked like what AICs looks like now in wrestling shoes.
Does that sound right?
There's a different brand because I know exactly what you're talking about.
I can't think of it is.
It breaks off into.
The stripe breaks off into two,
and then there's a line down the side of it.
And those were, and our color, so we were maroon,
we were blue and gray in high school,
but we were maroon in white in junior high.
And those were the white ones with the maroon stripes,
I was like, yep, that's what I'm wearing the school.
My mother thought I was a weirdo,
but most of the wrestlers wore wrestling shoes around school.
Like, whatever they were practicing.
You're right, it might be A6.
Is this the logo you're talking?
about that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's six. Yep. I wasn't sure. And that was strong back then.
Yeah. That was strong back then. That was strong back in the 80s. Oh, yeah. The A6. I didn't know that there were
any other wrestling shoes because that's all anybody and when I wrestled, anybody had was A6.
Claytona John, you go to your room. You go to your room right now. You go to your room.
You go to your room, close the door, turn your phone off. Yes. You just go to your room.
So Claytonia John, for anybody that doesn't know, well, nobody knows because only we can see it.
Sent a gift of leather helmet football and put DP playing football in high school.
No, I'll post a picture of, I'll post a picture of me.
So the senior picture that we took for football, my junior picture, I had my full afro.
And I had enormous shoulder pads.
but my senior year
my mother made me get
because we were doing a senior picture
that afternoon
so in between practices so I'd leave
practice
go get a suit put it on
take my senior picture and then go back
to practice to take the football picture
and I was not happy because it cut
my afro that morning but
look at the shoulder pads on that dude
you know what's funny is I'm pretty sure
I wore like those exact same shoulder pads when I was in high school
they were massive
They were they were ginormous.
So the jerseys got extra like my last two years of high school is when the like super tight jerseys became a thing.
So we had those and you see the sleeves on this, right?
Oh yeah.
You see the sleeves.
Oh yeah, I do.
Them suckers flapped in the wind, baby.
Those are down to your like your four arms.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
It's pass the elbow.
But we got the super tight jerseys for the first time.
And just imagine you like you, you, you coached high schoolers.
The first time a bunch of high schoolers.
have to put those jerseys on the shoulder pads and then figure out a way to put them on.
And then the most fun was taking them off, like some of the linemen.
It was impossible.
Oh, no.
You put the shoulder pads inside the jersey and then you had somebody pull it off.
And you had to have two teammates pull this thing over your head.
Well, there were people that were like, oh, it'll be easier if I put my shoulder pads on first and then you put the jersey over me.
So we had three uniforms.
That did not work.
We had three uniforms.
So this was the polyester one.
nothing looks like it's just going to tear.
No, oh, this thing was rugged.
This was rugged, rugged, like the, the mesh ones from my senior year, those wore out.
Because those are screen print numbers and it just didn't look good.
But my junior year, when we first got these, I was thrilled because the year before my sophomore year, Rico, we were still wearing the long sleeve.
Nope.
Brough, the long sleeve cotton jerseys.
that looks awful it was terrible you want to try to get those off try to get those sweat oh bro
this was not this was not fun at all just stuck to you so we went through it yeah there's funny
there's been very yeah you know what barry yeah i can see it yeah oh barry was a dude oh
barry was a dude very looks like in all americans barry was look i kid you not uh he's got the he's got
the he's got the the the the jaw line the chin
He looks like an All-American.
Barry was one of, like, he was the most muscular quarterback I'd ever seen.
Like, he was the first muscular quarterback.
Because he was, he was an All-State wrestler.
So, yeah, he looked.
That'll do it to you.
Yeah, he didn't look.
I think I shared the picture of Barry wrestling and a meat.
And it looks like Barry is torturing this guy.
He's torturing him.
Just going to be rude like that and just mess with something.
So those are our captains.
And Robert Oxenade play for Tampa in the NFL.
Those, like, an incredible hope.
That's what we call it.
That's a big dude.
Oh, you ain't lying.
Robert Oxendoy.
There it is, man.
He's got Oxenadee.
He's a doctor now.
He's a buffed doctor now.
He's a buffest doctor ever.
He's a surgeon.
He's not going to cut you up, but he's just going to reach.
He's going to put, punch inside your chest.
Take your heart out and put a new one in.
He wouldn't give you anesthesia.
He just, yo, go to sleep.
And your buddy.
He's like, you know what?
I think I might.
I'm going to do that.
Rashad's up next.
He's in Wigsop.
It's coming up here on 19-37 ticket.
Don't go anywhere.
Enjoy yourselves.
I'm out.
