It's time to go one-on-one with D.P.
Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket.
Say what?
I bet.
These shows we will do.
We have texted that suggested I do a music show.
And the only thing is that we could do the music show like a DJ, but then we couldn't stream it.
Yeah, it would just be a brick and mortar only.
Right.
it would be that's what it would have to be yeah um which okay okay i think it would be worth it right
i think that would be worth it i think that would be good right yeah eric go to your corner
he's always got to go to your corner go to your corner go to your corner who hurt you bro who hurt you
i just got back you already mad i'm glad you're back d p you know told an interesting story about
getting back here. You know,
Pecan pie, what a do, buddy? What to do?
It's a pecan or pecan?
Pen where you at? Where are you from?
What do you say?
Peacom.
Don't look at me like that.
He's just, I asked you said, what's it?
What's the ice cream?
It's all pecan.
Becon ice cream.
Butter peacon.
Oh.
Jeez, you're showing your
your persuasion.
I'll be honest. I just keep it simple with the vanilla.
You know, maybe we'll get the,
Oh, see, you were walking right into the layup.
So do you know the story behind butter pecan?
Ice cream.
Negative.
Okay.
So there was a time when I, me, and my like, my kind would not have been allowed to purchase or consume vanilla ice cream.
Oh, what?
Yeah.
Just vanilla or just ice cream?
Well, vanilla.
And so butter pecan became a thing.
And your favorite butter pecan is your favorite black person's favorite ice cream.
just a matter of truth just a matter of truth
what's up daddy man good to be back yeah no it was the thing you can
google works folks will be like oh here you go no real real talk
there are things that we couldn't do right seasoning seasoning you're meat
that's where it came from because i feel like that's where we missed
older old i think in all of it like you don't love butter pick out ice cream i don't know
tell you. I don't know what to tell you.
I don't know if I've ever even had it.
I'm honest. I, bro, this, when I tell you
there's stuff. I'm wide DPA.
I'm super white.
Extra way. No, I get like,
I get it and I understand it that culturally there are things
that there are things that
culturally existed here in the Midwest and in
Nebraska that I wasn't privy to.
Right.
So culturally, you know what you know.
It's the Maya Angelou. We have no idea what
we have no idea about.
Mm-hmm.
Right.
I teach their own.
I mean, I think last time we did this show,
we were talking about down there in Utah,
some of the interesting eats.
Yeah,
this is a whole bunch, right?
There's a whole bunch of things.
Jellow salad.
Yeah, jealous salad.
Disgust.
Right.
Jalous salad.
Jealous salad.
I'm proud of that one.
We teach as we could.
424, 64, 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, 8, 5, 6, 8,
5, so heavy text line.
Following on all the streams,
and it's Major League Baseball Wild Card Tuesday.
Also, also.
Rodley with a bomb, a three-run bomb in inning eight, down three-two.
He gets a hundred mile per hour heater up, and he bangs deep center for the five-three
win for the Atlanta Braves.
Now, they lead one zero in the best of three.
Currently the Astros and the White Sox going at it, and I'm trying to be kind to
to white
tax fans. Yeah, there's a bit of
Astros homerism going on.
I say that
loudly proudly. I love that.
That is easily my favorite
baseball stadium. Well,
a second. It's one A and one B.
What's one A? One A, I got married in.
I got married in a baseball park.
And then I spent
most of my time in
what was then Minute Mae Park.
So Natch Park,
Minutemade. Camden Yards.
is two.
If one A and one B,
Camden Yards is two.
Then you get to the museums
and the greatest ever.
So the epic run of, I think,
three, still the Yankee Stadium,
four.
Yeah, I'll get in trouble.
Dodger Stadium only because
it's L.A. Not because of
Chavez Rameen.
but because of what's happened there.
Historically, there's a lot in the space.
I like Cityfield more and I like Fenway.
Is there a clear bottom?
Oh.
Top of can is always the one.
Well, the problem of them being at the bottom
is that you don't aesthetically have anything about it
that it intrigues you.
And that's not true.
There hasn't been that amount.
of great baseball moments there that I've been familiar with.
I would say the Marlin Stadium probably is, yeah, probably more that than Tampa.
I love the Rangers Stadium.
Anaheim's beautiful.
It's hard to be mad at Anaheim.
Seattle's probably top five.
I know I'm obsessed
on people when I say that I would rather go
to the White Sox Stadium than
Wrigley. That's what I haven't
actually been to Wrigley Field. I know there's
the downtown vibe of that one always gets the text.
We have to fix that, but I would
say
Yeah, Pittsburgh,
Kip, you're right. Pittsburgh is a wonderful
baseball. I think they have
like in my opinion. That's the one that I would love
to go to. They have like one of the best skyline.
But I would also say go to all of them
because you're human.
And so the getting to,
and then once you're getting there,
and then there has to be something
that emotionally ties you to remembering
when you were there.
So something good has to happen.
And if you go to,
so let's say I go to Pittsburgh and I go to Houston,
Houston gave me a World Series
and matchups and moments.
And if Pittsburgh all you get is all you get,
it's hard to put Pittsburgh on the pedestal.
of that. The reason why Memorial Stadium is higher on the Big Ten scale than, say, the horseshoe
is moments and people, nothing wrong with Columbus and Ohio State. It's just not that.
The big house, same thing applies. But you haven't lived, too, you've walked through Houston at a ballgame,
and it's 100 degrees out and it's 7 degrees inside.
And every 10 paces, there's a different kind of food.
A high level of food.
Like, there's, like, one day you're going to get a mariachi band.
The next day you're going to get tequila and margaritas.
Or the next day you'll get tacos and tequila.
You can get through.
The Nolan Ryan hot dogs give you its own statement.
Then there's brisket of various types.
If you go to Camden and you can get an authentic crab cake,
sandwich? Listen, man, look, I had crab cakes and cow Ripkin. You understand that it's not
just the aesthetic part of it. It does it deliver. And I love what Wrigley does. But Riggly and
Fenway, there's still something, because it's old and classic, you miss something. The same thing
applies in basketball with Madison Square Garden. The things you have to deal with to go to it,
Then there's, it gets a higher scale because of the culture.
But then you miss something because quite frankly, it's an old building.
And that's not its fault.
It just is.
But if you ask me, would I rather go to the Delta Center and see Carl Malone, then go to,
if I'm going to Madison School Garden to watch Patrick Ewing, it's on par.
If I'm going to watch not Patrick Ewing and not Jared Brunson,
I'm probably going to pick
out the center in Carbone and John Stockton.
Like it all matters
and it depends on what you're not there.
Baseball, for me,
watchability matters.
Getting to, because you go to a baseball game
more than you go to any other sporting event.
Right?
Yeah, 100%.
I find myself at a hundred park
more than any other because there's just a lot of games.
The 80 plus home games,
plus if you get playoffs, plus if you get preseason.
Yeah.
Atlanta's exceptional.
Let's be clear.
Atlanta's deceptional.
And they do a really good job of connecting all of the old stadiums
to their current stadium.
They've got placement of where home runs were here.
You can stand where Hank Aaron's home run land, 715 land.
You can go and do those sort of things.
Philly, it's a great freaking ballpark.
Like it really is.
I don't like Philly fans.
I don't either.
So I kind of, you know, it's hard to get past that.
The same people will say that about the Yankees, going to Yankee Stadium.
But Yankee Stadium hosted everything, the best concerts, the best pro wrestling matches,
the best, like some of the best football games.
Yankee Stadium did all of that.
So those old places, Wrigley, you could say that.
Soldier Field, the original Soldier Field has value that.
other stadiums can't possibly fathom.
But would I rather sit in the snow at Soldier
or sit indoors at Houston?
I'm old, bro.
Give me indoor.
I'm going to choose indoor every single time.
When I was young and didn't care,
listen, if they built an indoor Nebraska Husker football stadium,
I would be there more than more.
But there are people that love the outside condition.
but that's why I enjoy going to a volleyball game
and a wrestling match
and a basketball game more than I do football.
And there's only seven home football games.
So I don't get,
and what was the last time it was a meaningful football game
at Memorial Stadium at the level of the things
that you see at Devaney Center in PVA.
Yeah, I was going to say, you have to go back to 09.
Like, you got to go back.
You have to go back to Cole McCoy, too.
Right, like 16 years before you've had a game,
that you just went, I'm going to lose my mind on.
Yep.
Colorado against Dion was nice, but that was more pop than.
Yes.
Didn't mean anything at that point.
It meant, you know, pride was on the line.
That was more snack than state.
Yes.
And you get that in play.
Giant Stadium looks cool on TV.
Oh, oh, San Francisco Giants.
New York Giants looks good.
You're dealing with Giants fans.
and New Jersey.
It's really hard to put New Jersey,
anything New Jersey in the top.
Like, where the Nets play is a great,
like once you're in the arena,
heck yeah.
But you got to take a train to it.
You got to take a train to it.
You got to deal with some stuff.
Yeah.
You got to deal with some stuff.
You imagine having to ride.
All new drinks are now at McDonald's, with refreshers like the strawberry watermelon refresher,
and the mango pineapple refresher with popping boba to crafted sodas like the Sprite Berry Blast,
with berry flavors and cold foam.
Who knew ice cold drinks could be so fire?
Six all new drinks are here.
Now at McDonald's.
Refreshers contain caffeine.
Lincoln's buses to get to Memorial Stadium?
I've done it once.
I don't want to do that for.
Wouldn't be as appealing, now would it?
Home of the cheaters.
Listen, if we're going to, if we're going to chastise cheaters,
there's a whole lot of stadiums we can't go to in a lot of sport.
Some would point the finger up the street here.
So be careful.
Let's not.
Let's not do that.
I take the brick house out of the picture.
San Diego, exceptional.
I think it's really hard to get to get a true top 10
because at this point, most of the stadiums have been manipulated
and maneuvered to where it's really hard not to love
every major league baseball state.
Yeah, I mean, like I was, you know, kind of when I'm talking about
going through some of the rankings, they're all pretty nice ballpark.
I mean, in the big time.
I think Pittsburgh still has got the best.
And in the, but have you been?
No, I have to go.
Just the aesthetics.
Like you have to go.
The aesthetic, I mean, if it's just optics, it's easy.
Have your, have yours.
I tell people, I wish I hadn't been in all the arenas because then I could kind of let some things roll off my back.
But no.
No, because there are too many of them.
I like Kaufman.
And I don't know why.
I don't love Kaufman.
I don't know why.
I just don't know why.
But Kauffman gets bonus points because the Neagle League Hall of Fame is there.
And every time I go to Kauffman, I go to the Hall of Fame.
Right.
So definitely adds value.
And the food.
But if you have barbecue in Kansas City, you better have all of the best barbecue in Kaufman.
And they don't.
What excuse you have?
What excuse you have for not having the best?
great barbecue and, you know, restaurants all over the town.
What are you doing?
Like, you're going to get the best pizza and best hot dogs in New York City.
Sorry, hate to tell you, but, and outside and inside.
Mm-hmm.
So, you know, if you say that Toronto, really nice, but it's Toronto.
All of the Toronto facilities are amazing, but it's Toronto.
It's Toronto.
sorry it's Toronto I really feel about Toronto yeah um I love Comerica I love Detroit I love all
the Detroit arenas um even their NBA yeah I that's one more like the crowd I like the crowd
environment oh I listen they've gone through hell but but see here's the thing I went through
four different versions of Detroit basketball Detroit Detroit Detroit. Detroit. Detroit. Detroit.
Basketball.
Like you, come on.
I saw, like, if you saw Zeke and Isaiah,
if you saw Mahorn and Lane Beer.
The bad boys era, it was popping in.
I said, listen, I love the Orlando Woolridge, Kelly,
Tripuka Pistons, right?
The Bob Lanier Pistons.
So I'm not slain it by that.
I love all of the Minnesota arenas and stadiums.
The, love it.
Target Center, it's good that they're good now.
I've only been there once.
love and they were playing the lakers i love the football stadium love the baseball stadium
love the basketball low hockey arena love them all love them love um Milwaukee and I try
not to connect I try not to connect lame B LAMbo field with Milwaukee but you kind of have to
yeah there's no otherwise um I loved I love basketball in Milwaukee
It is a, as much as Nebraska fans like to drink.
Oh, they got us beat up there.
Milwaukee is the drinking sports.
To me, it's the drinking sports capital.
It's one and one, one A and one B with Buffalo.
Yeah, that's a, I mean, you go to like up there.
Right.
I think they have like the charts.
They do those like census every year.
Like they having a few beverages.
Right.
We're right there.
But I don't think we're back down.
Seattle's good for everything.
Yeah, Lumenfield's like one of my bucket.
But I'm still mad they don't have basketball.
They don't have NBA now.
No.
Like that bothers me.
And the fact that you lost the NBA makes me you take a step down when it comes
to football and baseball.
And you shouldn't because quite frankly, if it's playoff basketball football,
Seattle's top five.
They got the cracking going up there.
Yeah.
And that's an awesome.
Add hockey to that, right?
So in that space.
I'm trying to think St. Louis.
Okay.
Oh, San Francisco.
Okay.
I love the stadium.
I don't love the football.
Because you lost.
You lost the Rams.
You lost two teams.
Yeah.
You lost the Cardinals and the Rams.
Like, what's wrong with you?
Go to therapy.
And it was popping for the Rams.
They love the Rams down there.
So that's why the biggest slap.
They ain't love them that much.
No, not anymore.
You ain't love, no, you didn't love them enough to take care of them.
Oh.
Well, I'm talking to the fans.
No, if the fans took care of them, they don't leave.
Do what you show up, show out.
Show up for them like you showed up for the Cardinals.
They don't.
They don't.
And you don't have basketball.
So, man.
Yeah, St. Louis is not as much as they like, well, but if you go to St. Louis Blues game,
you're going to lose your mind.
So you have to consider that along the way.
Cincinnati.
The Great American.
and ballpark and the mall and I still have to get some of the March shot out of me.
I have to get some of the March shot out of my system.
And I, 30 years later, I still haven't.
It's like the clippers.
It's like the clippers.
I want to love the clippers, but the Donald Sterling thing still, still stinks.
Well, yeah, and they just went through the whole fiasco of trying to cheat their way out of that
second apron tax.
Yeah.
With some off the thing like.
Yeah,
which is weird,
which is better than what it was,
but still like,
what are you guys doing?
Just weird.
Just weird.
Yeah,
shot your program down for how many more years to come now.
If,
if,
and then,
and that's the thing.
Like,
it,
that used to be,
I mean,
you had a great,
you had a big red machine.
Yeah.
You had a big more red machine.
They had Lobb City down there.
Then you had Eric Davis and you had King Griffey Jr.
Then you,
like you had,
they've had dudes.
You had some stuff.
Like you had some stuff and you competed.
with the dynasties.
So every time the Reds got good,
they literally knock one of the dynasties down.
And so you want to do that.
But then,
mm,
like then you landed on the Joey Vado era,
and they were confused about whether they loved him or not.
And it was just weird.
Bengals,
the Bengals is,
the Bengals should be a top game performance sort of place.
But they get stuck
with are we Cincinnati or are we Kentucky?
I don't know. You're right across the bridge.
You're literally right across. When I tell you the number of Kentucky
Wildcat jerseys at a Bengals home game,
you just,
bro,
what are we? Really?
Really, man? Oh, culturally too. I don't. Maybe they have more.
I just know that for the skyline chili. Yeah, yeah. I mean, but that's,
but that's kind of what it is. And, and, and, and, and I'm good with
that. Again, all of it, all of these
are good. All of these are really
good. I'm not sure
I could rank them by division, quite
frankly.
Colorado.
The fact that it's not identified as Denver
hurts.
Hertz.
Nuggets? Yeah, I got the Denver
Nuggets. Nuggets.
Rockies.
Abelanch.
Broncos.
But then you have
the Rockies.
and that's a tough ticket.
Yeah.
Like people make faces when you talk about Colorado Rockies baseball.
Yeah, I don't have to look at where they finished.
I don't last year is absolutely.
In attendance, it's just abysmal.
Yeah.
It's abysmal.
And then Arizona.
Diamondbacks, Cardinals, right?
What's the hockey team?
Why am I?
Arizona Cardinals.
No. Hockey.
Oh, hockey. Phoenix.
Coyotes. Yeah, there go.
Phoenix Suns.
That's a good sports city,
my mind. Right? That's good.
What's the better sports city, Denver or Phoenix?
Oh, the Rockies are really pulling down Denver.
Right. I'm going to, I'm going to,
right. Because people aren't really paying attention to it as it is.
Right now I know it. So I'm going to go Denver.
Rockies, but I had to look it up.
They did lose 104 games.
Right.
In that time.
Ooh.
It's worse than I thought.
I knew they were at the bottom of their division.
Again.
Yeah.
Well, again.
And then it's abysmal.
Again.
So, I mean, I think, I don't know if you, I don't know if you could do this by region or division because the divisions are all the place.
Because if you talk Dallas.
I think Northeast is like, if you talk Dallas, you have talk Mabs, right?
You talk stars.
You talk.
Rangers, Utah.
Rockets.
Cowboys.
Well, no, Rock is Houston.
Yeah.
Listen.
You know what?
I think I just thought it was a state of Texas as a whole.
I'm not sure if I would rather be a sports fan in Houston or Dallas, but I'm going to say.
Well, because Dallas will take Austin and kind of claim it, but it can't.
It really shouldn't.
It'll also claim Fort Worth, so it'll claim TCU.
It shouldn't.
If you're going to go college, it's S&U.
So then do I really want to claim it like that?
Houston, you don't tech, it's not technically the Cougars, but it is for basketball
when it's technically and truthfully Texas A&M, but not everybody wants to do that.
So I don't.
And then Houston doesn't have NHL.
No.
Then you got L.A.
And I don't know what L.A. is.
L.A. is all over the place.
You got too much going on.
From the text slide, Colorado fans are mean and unsports for the line.
That's 3581.
Eric says Chicago.
I think it's one of the best sports cities out there, but we need success to show it.
Outdated United Center.
Yeah, there's a.
But I, but no.
It's got history all up and down the place.
I like United Center.
It's got all the history.
I want, as a matter of fact, I get angry when they move Big Ten basketball from United States.
Yeah.
So there's that.
Dan and South Lincoln says
I went to her Brewers to playoff game last fall
all fans were so friendly
They bought me beer
That's what I said
Milwaukee kid today
They get it at
John says were you ever in the Astrodome?
Yes
Yes I
So the Astrodome was more
Odyssey than Epic
Back in the 70
It was a big deal
It's terrible turf
Players hated playing there
terrible sight lines because pop flies, you get caught up in that in between roof there.
I like the new stadium more than an Astrodome, and it's not even close.
Especially for football, because Houston football, the new stadiums relying is way, way, way, way.
Like, I can't imagine, I don't think they ever played a Super Bowl in the Astrodome.
I don't remember one.
I know that let me say this and we'll go to break.
I know that Rice University hosted a Super Bowl
and I don't think the Astrodome did.
Never.
And Rice is easily,
Rice and then Tulane were the two worst host for a Super Bowl
in history ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,
Well, when Houston hosted the Super Bowl in 1974,
the Astrodome just seated up for 50,000 people in the NFL
considered it too small, and that's why they chose Rice.
Yep, there you go.
So you were right.
Never hosted one.
Yeah, there you go.
All right, we'll go to break more one-on-one.
Coming back.
She's got a breakaway.
She's all alone.
She's going.
She's going!
Oh, no.
Wrong goal, kiddo.
It's chaos out there.
