Starting point is 00:00:00 Back to one-on-one with D.P. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket. Welcome back. Festivus, the airing of grievances. The texture shouts out Austin by saying, without Daniel Jones injury, we don't get a 44-year-old chubby Philip Rivers coming back and dissecting defenses. no we wouldn't no we wouldn't no we wouldn't uh Texas says this no grievance but wanted to wish the ticket through a merry Christmas there's no place like Nebraska and no station like 97 ticket best sports talk shows around love respect and much appreciation for what you guys do nope sir we appreciate you sir ma'am I won't assume um thank you we appreciate you because without you there's no reason for us to do this like without y'all hanging out all day like the text of us saying saying appreciate you No, I really do appreciate it's the right word.
Starting point is 00:01:02 I appreciate you caring enough to show up, caring enough to interact, right? Share your opinions and your knowledge and your experiences. That's why this is fun. I mean, geez, you know, us yelling in a vacuum. There's enough of that. I mean, that's what the difference between radio and podcasting is that we get to interact. Like, we get live feedback. this is this is stand-up comedy where you're in the room and if it's good it's good if it's not
Starting point is 00:01:32 you you know right away I could you know right away um by the way shout out to howlers comedy club um I did not know that they were doing this um and I did not know that like Chris Catan had been there um it's in the basement of the beer house and Brett Ernst was in town. New Yorker, but a Vegas resident comedian, he does Sundays at Jimmy Kimmel's in Vegas. He stopped in with us when we were at Bigton Media. And Cody, the owner, you know, told Jake,
Starting point is 00:02:19 hey, man, there's a guy that's doing a stand-up, nose DP, trying to get a hold of him. I was like, well, no, he's not. He has my number. I texted him, and he goes, oh, crap, I've been taxing the wrong guy. I've been texting the wrong number. And we, he put on a killer set, a 90-minute set, straight through blazing hot comedy. And then, so the club, the club holds 100, just under 150 people.
Starting point is 00:02:50 So when they have a good comic, you should get your tickets and please jump on their website. and look at the schedule. I know Tom Arnold's coming in January. They've got some comedians lined up, and it's a great room for it. It's in the basement of the beerhouse building, so there's a door. Like, if you're going to the rooftop at the beer house,
Starting point is 00:03:09 the same way you get to the rooftop is the same way you get to the basement. Just you hit the basement button. It takes you down there. And then Ernst was really good about hanging out, so I went with Peter Cobel, and we hung out for a bit afterwards. There's a great speakeasy.
Starting point is 00:03:26 connected to the comedy club. Literally, you have to go through a door. They have a rotating wall where you can sit on the wall and pose and it spins and takes you into the speak-easy. Very cool vibe. Great beverages. A lot of ticket listeners were there.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Greatly appreciate that they were warm and welcoming. And then Bach, this is the, I can't recall the last time I closed the bar. I can't remember the last time I was in a bar for last call. but hanging out with Cody and his staff, some great ticket listeners who hung out, great evening.
Starting point is 00:04:05 So if you are looking for things to do, they also do gift cards and gift certificates. You can do reservations for folks. It would be a great Christmas gift, great stocking stuffer, not overly priced tickets. So, you know, two drink minimum.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Get yourself in there. Pretty good, solid menu, because they have the menu from beer house. They have Kevin Farley coming in, I believe, April 11th. What do you feel about brothers or, you know, because I had a chance to go see Chris Rock's brother one time. I didn't quite do it. But I would just think of watching.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Tony, but Tony's as good a stand-up as Chris. Yeah, but I just say like Kevin Farley, I've seen it and I've watched some of his stuff. It just makes me miss Chris. Yeah, I mean, think Bill Murray, his brothers, rode the coattails quite a bit. Eddie Murphy, Charlie Murphy became his own iconic star.
Starting point is 00:05:03 You're a star by proximity, but also you're also in the master's class on a daily basis. Nepotism is real. Nepotism is fully real. You get excellence by being in the space. I mean, we know a ton of coaches. We know a ton of coaches' kids
Starting point is 00:05:20 who found success and then went on to become coaches themselves. Why? Not only because you have somebody in position of power to fight for you, but because you're in the proxy that you hear a conversation, Ken Griffey Jr. spent all of his time
Starting point is 00:05:34 hanging out with the big red machine before he was in high school. Look, if you're being instructed by Pete Rose and Joe Morgan, you're going to do okay. You're going to do okay. And it happens. Tony Perez's kid. I mean, so it happens. And you're watching that in the,
Starting point is 00:05:52 this generation, Vlad Jr., who's the Dante Bichette. There's a ton of players whose dads and brothers got you in the space. I think Kyle Ripkin, Billy Ripkin, Seth Curry, you know, Steph Curry. It's okay. I mean, the Barry brothers, there's a ton of them, the Alamar brothers as well. In comedy, I think it's more likely that your brother would pick up some of the funny. Like, because you're, you're just getting roasted by him.
Starting point is 00:06:27 And at some point, you have to learn to defend yourself. So I would imagine, I would imagine comics that would, that would fly.
