Back to one-on-one with D.P.
Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket.
Welcome back.
It was an exceptional.
Oh, and let me correct you.
I said Saturday at Sunday.
Sunday game three of five.
So I appreciate you all looking out.
Looking out for your bowl.
Also, it means you keep free from going to PBA on Sunday.
that.
Walking down,
man, traffic's light today.
Stop didn't match.
Boy,
where is everybody?
What are y'all doing?
Man, come on, Husker nation.
Show up.
So thank you.
We need, in case y'all
didn't notice, we try to juggle a lot.
I wear way too many hats.
There's a UFC fight in
in Perth.
I was asked to attend the next three U.S. events,
actually the next six.
Australia, you're talking about?
Yeah.
And I just went, do y'all realize it's in Perth, Australia?
Like, I was just like, you know, Sydney,
Sydney's not like a single flight plane right across the state line.
This requires some effort.
What do you do it?
So they said, okay, let's write that one.
off, can you get to Vegas next weekend?
And I went, that Super Bowl weekend.
And for some reason, I spent the last, well, one, because the Super Bowl was in Vegas,
but I spent the last two Super Bowl's, Super Bowl weekends in Vegas.
And I had to come back for one to be a Buffalo Wing during the other one.
I was with the Supernova.
So we're traveling and on the road and bouncing around.
So I was like, no, Super Bowl weekend in Vegas is different.
Not going to do it.
Not going to do it this year.
We'll figure that out.
And then they're in Houston, the weekend of the 21st.
Pretty good card, mind you.
And this is one of the one.
They said, well, we're going to put you right next to the octagon,
which is, which is for me, which is candy.
Like that, like, that's how you would have got me in the back of the van.
Like, offer me front row for UFC.
Yeah, that, that, yeah.
That's what I get you.
Hey, little boy.
I've got front row.
I got front row to UFC.
Okay.
But that's also the weekend that Husker wrestling goes to Utah.
They go to Oregon,
Utah.
And it's kind of like a tribute thing.
They're a wrestle Utah Valley out there.
But that's where Brock Hardy's from.
That's his hometown.
He went to high school there.
So there's a lot of really cool things going on there to be a part of that.
And then
Bach, there's
Husker baseball.
Yeah, that's Husker baseball.
So they go to
Mesa, Arizona,
and then they go to Arlington, Texas.
And
so we got to figure out how we're going to deal with that
and how to cover that.
And it was like, hey,
are you traveling or not?
And then you get into
state tournament for girls and boys here.
The women's basketball Big Ten tournament
is the same week as the girls' state tournament here.
So Nick will be here.
Either I or Austin will be on the road with that.
Bach, let me ask you a question.
Is there any interest for you
to cover the Huskers women's team in,
and I'm perfectly okay with you,
No.
Covering the women's basketball tournament in this year.
I might have to talk to my wife and try to figure out the dates.
But I mean, like I'm always trying to be considerate of life and schedules.
The same thing is awesome, a new baby.
You know, I don't want to ever just make the assumption that, hey, go.
You know, you're in that space.
and I just kind of want to want to offer that to you.
The same for Harrison being in that space.
So if that is the thing that we will consider, okay,
so you let me know because I think one,
this women's team is going to end up in the NCAA tournament.
So somebody would have to cover them in the Big Ten
and the NCAA tournament,
which would be the same time that the men would be.
So the men's Big Ten tournament is the following week,
but Wrestling's Big Ten tournament is kind of falls in between that.
So we'll be spread a little thin.
Yeah, sounds like it.
And then Nebraska Wrestling Nationals.
You can't be everywhere, DP.
You got to, you have to send some people.
And you got to keep people here to run the ship.
So that's kind of where we are and what we're trying to work.
work out. And of course, for all you businesses out there, if there's a Husker team that you
support and that you want us to cover into the tournaments and postseason, just reach out
to Jake or Nick or myself, you can just reach out and we'll cover it. And you guys have to tell me
what your level of priority is. Like how important is it for us to send somebody to the
to cover the women? How important is it for us to cover?
Husker baseball.
If you want us to cover,
I mean,
Husker baseball,
Arizona and Texas are the two.
And that,
let me tell you,
that,
that collection of baseball teams
that's going to go to,
to those two events,
who's up,
can you bring up the,
pull up the Husker schedule real quick,
the baseball schedule?
Yeah.
Because the folks who are,
who they're competing against,
in both of those, those early season tournaments.
That is crazy.
Yeah, so they've got the MLB Desert Invitationals.
They'll take on Yukon, Northeastern, Grand Canyon,
and Stanford from February 13th to February 16th.
And then they've got the Imogene Bank College Baseball series
from February 20th to 22nd,
which will have them playing Louisville, Kansas State, and Florida State.
Yeah.
That is, hey, there's,
or how to, there's a fine how you do.
That's a group.
Like that's four days of really good baseball.
Plus, when you go to those things,
when they're not playing Nebraska, they play each other.
So there's just this, this huge, huge mecca of baseball.
And, you know,
he goes, I want to cover ping pong just so he can go to Japan.
Yeah, that's a whole deal.
That's a whole deal.
That is a whole thing.
Texas says, I was in Mesa for the baseball games last year.
Work training.
Whoever goes will have a blast.
Great facility.
Awesome Husker fans.
Yeah, I think Nick has talked about it.
I think he and Austin, but again, because of time of year,
and the assortment, the wide range of events going on,
wrestling hits its apex, right about that.
Women's basketball, that's the end of their season and then taking them into the tournament.
Bowling as well.
So there's tons of stuff there.
Nebraska football fan says, what's up, D.P., I will be there Sunday.
I have to find a white outfit for this one.
Yeah, it's a white out.
It's a white out.
And I think, yeah, I do have my white quarters that locked in and ready.
Yeah, well done.
Well done.
Yeah, it's a white out.
Texas says how about covering the Winter Olympics or the X game,
the X game, winter games.
We are going to, we have, we will incorporate some of the live features from Winter Olympics.
We have the ability to cover, to broadcast some of the events, some of the actual competition.
because of time differences, time zone differences,
there would be some kind of,
we had tried to work out a way
so that from 12 midnight to 6 a.m.
We would run the stuff and then on some of the weekends.
But we also have a ton of college basketball
and high school basketball to get in.
As a matter of fact, do we have high school basketball this week?
On Friday?
Nick was in the other room.
I should have to ask you.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know if it was,
for whatever reason,
I don't know that we do this week.
Hold on.
Let me,
let me find Mr. Ormond's
bat signal to us all.
Well, he does,
you know,
he does a pretty good job
of getting this out to us Friday.
No,
no game Friday.
No game.
Friday.
So, but then it really,
you know, high school basketball hits its,
uh,
hits apex coming up here at the end of February and the beginning of March.
So there's lots in play.
Um,
this will be meeting two,
uh,
between Nebraska and Illinois.
And in meeting one,
um,
as Keith Jackson,
this was a humdinger.
This was a humdinger.
And in this,
and I went back and watched it just so that I could talk about it with some intelligence,
but this was the price Sanford 20 plus point first half.
They get up double figures, double digits, and Illinois just shoots its way back into it.
Right.
And final possession in the rundown was watching.
Illinois make decisions on what they were willing to concede to get the shots they wanted to.
And they kept people on the floor who weren't having defensive success.
But then they were going possession for possession and how they defended Price Sanford,
which is when Jamarcus Lawrence steps up and the key that what we miss from this one,
this was the coming out party for Garcia.
Because against Illinois, he had 10 second half points.
He had 10 points
the second half
and maybe the biggest
bucket
Illinois got on a run
Sam does a dribble driving
the paint gets it off
the glass can't get it to go down
Garcia flies in from nowhere
and gets the putback
to give Nebraska the lead late
Illinois comes down
you
Evis just hits a three
top of the key from recall
and then the possession down
where they run their
their set Nebraska runs
their sets. And on the backside,
Jamarcus is sitting in the corner,
right corner, and fills
to the wing. And Sam makes a great fine.
Like Sam's eyes, this is
Apex Sam Quayberg passing eye.
Because he identifies where the help came from.
And we always say throw to pressure
that helped defender off Jamarcus, gave Jamarcus
to step into the three and knock it down.
again, big, huge lead.
But they had three players who all were in double digits
right around 20 points.
All of them knocked down three.
But this was, this was for me, as much a statement
as anything that happened this season.
Because on the road in the Big Ten, you get a lead
and then the lead whittles away and goes away.
and past Nebraska teams would have folded.
This group said no.
And again, you get Garcia to make a play.
You get Stanford on a heat check.
I think he had six threes that day.
And then Jamarcus stepping up big to knock down the game winner.
Long way.
So Sunday, 3 o'clock, Illinois, Huskers, round two.
Round two.
We'll go to break.
We'll close out this, set you up for Adam Carriker.
