Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the Coppull Chevrolet GMC Studios, here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery, on 937 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com. Happy Wednesday, everybody. 402, 464-5-685. Sartagam and text line, Honda-Lincoln Hotline. If you want to add to the conversation,
Starting point is 00:00:37 if you want to call in or texting, you can do something. So the Sart Hamer video streams are up, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter Live is up. The video stream is up and cracking. There's lots to talk about, but, you know, we open the segment. And again, now sponsored by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul. And Charles Phillips is with us, and my goodness gracious, he sent me a text. And I just went, okay, so you're going to call and share this. Charles, how are we doing this morning, brother?
Starting point is 00:01:07 I'm doing wonderful, D.P. I got a special guest with me, my beautiful wife. She wanted to come on because she loves 93-7 the ticket as well. See, that's the good stuff. God bless me for doing it. Thank you for making time for us. Help me out. What is going on in the kitchen today?
Starting point is 00:01:26 Come on. What's going on? Well, it is Wing Wednesday. We do our 75-cent wing Wednesday. And White, can you tell them what flavors we got on tonight? Sure. Today we're going to have lemon pepper. crunch, our honey cajun, and our fried hot butter wings.
Starting point is 00:01:43 And also with that, we'll add the Kung Fu barbecue along with mustard. I want to do the honey mustard. Yep, that's the flavor. See, that's Barry in the lead. We got to slow down. Wait, wait a minute. We got to slow down and get those one by one. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:02:02 Give those one by one and tell us, because you're painting the picture now. All right. So what's the first flavor? The first flavor will be lemon pepper crunch. Explain. The crunch I need to know. Well, it has a crispy crunch. We do grill the lemon pepper wings.
Starting point is 00:02:24 A lot of people don't grill them, but we grill them in butter. And then, of course, we put our special lemon pepper seasoning sauce on them. Okay. What's the second one? The second one is our all-time favorite, the honey-cageon barbecue. Real honey. Real honey. Stop, hold on.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Just give me a second. I got to collect myself. Hold on. Okay. Okay. And 75 cent per wing, right? Yes, sir. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:02 What's- Order them by six. You can order 36. You can order $0. as many as you want, but it will all be 75 spent this evening from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. From 4 to 9. 36 seems like a pretty good number. Six of everything.
Starting point is 00:03:19 What's the third flavor now? The third flavor be the hot butter. And that's the regular, that's on the menu on a regular basis. Yes, every day. That's on the menu with the honey cage and it's on the menu every day. The hot butter is definitely real spicy. It has garlic flakes in it, lots of seasoning. That is also grilled on the grill as well.
Starting point is 00:03:48 And then the fourth one. Oh, my goodness. The fourth one we're doing is the Kung Fu Barbecue. Details. Yes. Details. The Kung Fu Barbecue is barbecue, of course, with barbecue flavors, saucy, all the way saucy.
Starting point is 00:04:07 but it has a kick. So we got that Kung Fu kick that'll just blow your mouth away. Sonia, this is not fair because again, most people haven't eaten yet. So the hunger pangs, and now we got to wait until 4 o'clock. If you got to wait until 4 o'clock. 4.9, which is our new upcoming hour.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Okay. And then are you going to open for lunch at all? Well, what we decided is, since we have so many food truck conventions, this is our fifth year in the food truck game. So we decided to close lunch for the month of June. But with that said, we are on our way to America's Fallbrook to feed them some lunch today, baby back ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork,
Starting point is 00:05:00 mac and cheese, collard greens, baked beans, cold swah. We will be there at 11 o'clock on the dot. What's the address in case I just want to drive by? It's in Ballbrook. I can't remember this exact address. I know exactly where it is because it's right across the street for my daughter's daycare. Hey, hey, small world. So I might pretend to go get the kids.
Starting point is 00:05:32 We love you guys. Thank you very much for what you do for us and for everybody. else listen to happy you're the king queen of happy bellies all over the place so god bless you and thank you for what you do uh we'll see you this evening sometime between four or nine o'clock those wings have to happen
Starting point is 00:05:47 thank you thank bing you guys have a wonderful day you guys are the best that's so good oh my goodness i know exactly where that's that i'm just sitting here going this is not even fair because so i don't eat breakfast i've started eating more breakfast. It's the most important meal of the day, D.P.
Starting point is 00:06:10 That's what they said, but they also say, you know, fasting is good for you. They do say that. That is something they do say. But if I fast until 4 o'clock and then I go over to Mary Ellen. Your fasting meant nothing. You're going to eat a lot. I eat everything.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Well, it's true protein. It's good for you. I get the veggies. So you do that. So you do that and then you do just like some little, some arm, just do some air. punches in your in your in your in your in your place i do i do resistance bands yeah so you do resistance bans you're good all the protein good for your muscles it's all day it's
Starting point is 00:06:45 it's look and for the record uh so i've been i've been basically so of two of the three meals a day you're supposed to eat like five or six small meals is what you're supposed to do yeah i don't do i eat like two massive meals well they say you should you have five or six small ones and because of that for for for for most of the of the meals i have one big meal a day um but the rest of the day i've been just like veggies and fruit and doing them in small portions is helpful because then i i deal with the hunger paying and then you just take care real quick but as i said so when we did the uh the keynote speech at uh for the for the for their r tc folks it was the first time that since the pandemic that i like to put on my
Starting point is 00:07:35 suit. And I was like, oh my goodness gracious. Let me see. I couldn't get in a suit. I couldn't get in any of my suits. And I had, when I got here, those suits, I mean, they fit well. You were good. But pandemic, I, I, I look, man. It did that to a lot of people. It did, it did the thing. And I couldn't get in it. And then, uh, there was an event. I forget what an event it was. But I had to, had to dress up. and oh it was a book it was a book release and I put the jacket on
Starting point is 00:08:12 I was like oh this isn't this isn't terrible this is terrible so I then went in the closet and I started put you know put the suit pants on and they fit and I was like what is going on
Starting point is 00:08:27 so your small meals are working oh I was like what is happening so yeah and then strict came yesterday he goes dude like you're losing a ton of weight like what's going on I'm like I'm just eating veggies and fruit and you know you have protein at night or
Starting point is 00:08:47 protein in a big meal like when we have our sponsor you know wing stop I'll go to wing stop and you do that thing but of course now with Mary Ellen I'm going to have them I know where I'm getting my my special meals of the day but I can like Like the collar on this normally fit pretty tight.
Starting point is 00:09:09 A lot of room. It's a lot of, like I've noticed. And it's weird too because I'm not weightlifting. I'm not, those aren't my workouts. I'm just doing resistance, which is toning,
Starting point is 00:09:21 but it's not getting, I'm not getting the mass that I would normally carry around. Okay, Tom Brady. Yeah, well, that's what, I mean, but it works. Well, that was the thing. I mean, I had my neighbor came. My neighbor caught me in home,
Starting point is 00:09:33 and he goes, and your legs, your legs, fire. I was like, thank you. Thank you. Well, you're just trying not to beat yourself up all the time. And, you know, eating healthy is expensive. It's way more expensive, right?
Starting point is 00:09:51 Way more expensive. That's why it's hard. Right? And then the convenience that you have to plant it. And if you're eating fruit and vegetables, you have to eat them right away. They don't stay fresh for very long. They don't stay fresh for long.
Starting point is 00:10:03 you got to go through it and it's amazing to go through and I'm like, okay, you know what? I'll inconvenge myself. I'll continue to kind of dive in with fruit and vegetables for as long as I can do it. I don't know how long I can do it. But it's helpful. I certainly sleep better. That's good. I'll say that.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I sleep better. So for those folks that are out there, of course, you know, we've got our fitness fanatics who will go through all the dietary stuff. Mark, Mark's going through it. Mark looks great. It looks phenomenal. for what he's doing. So if you're looking to change it, I mean, the fitness fanatics are good for you.
Starting point is 00:10:40 They're good for you. And they'll work with you, wherever you are and whatever you can do and whatever you can't do. You know, I pay attention. I listen to what they talk about and you try to implement some of those things and what you're doing on your own.
Starting point is 00:10:51 I just, the idea of getting up at 5 a.m. every day is just not. That's the one line that I have to draw on the same. I got to find something. I've been trying, like, Rachel makes fun of me because I'm terrible. I eat terribly. I don't eat vegetables. I've been trying.
Starting point is 00:11:09 I had a bite of a carrot yesterday and I was like, hey, it wasn't bad. My taste buds are changing. Maybe, you know, I got to try some other stuff, see how it tastes. You know what? So I just, I got to do something. Because I eat terribly and I feel as if it might be passing on to my daughter and I want her to eat better too. Celery carrots. are my midday filler.
Starting point is 00:11:37 Where I can just, instead of grabbing chips or... I like fruit. I can do that. Fruit, I eat a ton of... Well, cantaloupes for four bucks, watermelon or something. Watermelon doesn't last very long. Yeah, but that's the thing is you just have to get used to getting it regularly enough that. Like, I'll get the cantaloupe cut it up.
Starting point is 00:11:59 It'll be gone in two days because I'll eat a ton of it or three days. And then it's time for the next thing. And if I need to swap up the fruit, I'm currently on this pineapple binge. Oh, pineapple's the best. Pineapple's so good. Rachel knows how to cut a pineapple real fast. She likes to show. She's every once in a while.
Starting point is 00:12:17 She's like, I bet I can cut a pineapple. She tries to go really fast. And I'm like, you're going to cut yourself. Please don't. That's what I worry about. That's what I worry about. But she's really good at it. She watched the video.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Yeah. Peaches, like I'll run peaches and apples. I'll run those out. Grapes. But see, I love. green grapes, I don't love purple grapes. Oh, I love purple grapes. But green grapes are the jam, but purple is better for you.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Is it? Yeah, purple is better for you. So then it becomes just rotating that I'll put these little fruit bowls together where it's got grapes, cantaloupe, melon. And then that's, instead of snack, if I'm going to snack, that's what I'm going to snap from. I should do that. now I do have to
Starting point is 00:13:06 I would I would be skinny quickly if I gave up ice cream impossible well that's my if I gave up pop it would probably help but I may be addicted well then it's unsweetened tea
Starting point is 00:13:20 then it's unsweet tea I drink a ton of water like a ton I have gotten back to that because I don't again obsessed with pop and there's water pop right that's what I tell myself I need water
Starting point is 00:13:33 No, like now that it's lemon, it's cucumber. Just throw stuff in it. Like just throw stuff in it, let it, let it. And you got to be careful about what you put in it because, and then continue to being fresh with it. Because I will keep the same fruit all day in the same water, but I'm putting water in all day. So I. But they have to make sure you throw it out at the end of the day. Yeah, I'm, I'm way over 100 ounces of water a day.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And the bad thing is that later, like, while I'm here, I drink some. water but I drink my I got my two cups of coffee that I put in here a sip on that and then I'll have a couple of water or two while I'm here and the boom when I go home it's full on it's just water water water water water and then
Starting point is 00:14:16 late at night I can't get enough water after an 8 o'clock once 8 o'clock hits I want like I and I should stop because it makes me get up in the morning in the middle of the night yeah right
Starting point is 00:14:33 so you have to make the sacrifice. Water, my goodness gracious. I can't get enough. I can't get enough. Yeah, the cucumber water is the thing. That's my first, like that chia seeded
Starting point is 00:14:49 lemon in the water and the first thing in the morning. See, I could do, I could do lemon in water. I can't do cucumber water. You actually can't. It's not bad, Rico. Oh, no, I've had cucumber water. I'm not, not a fat.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Like, it's not bad, but I'd rather have regular water or lemon water. So I'd take lemon water just to add a little bit of flavor. So Micah says you got to cook it with olive oil. Olive oil is the end of oil. Yeah, but it feels oily. Yeah, like I get caught up in that rather than just fresh cut, wrenched.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Bad. Fresh cut and rinsed veggies. Like celery and carrots, I can do a ton of. I keep salad there all the time, which is really like... I still can't do salad. I've disappointed in all of them. Oh, it's so... The main...
Starting point is 00:15:44 And I mean, I know it's not in all of them, but the one of the things is I can't... I can't do tomatoes. Like, I've tried. I can't do tomatoes. It's just... I don't know. It's a texture thing.
Starting point is 00:15:55 I can do the mini potatoes. I don't like sliced tomatoes. I like the mini potatoes. Well, my burgers, I like, you know, my sandwiches, I like the slice to it. But in my salads, I like... I like... the cherry tomatoes.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Ellie used to eat those like grapes. Oh, oh, oh my goodness. It was weird because she just took one from Rachel's salad once. And I don't know what she thought it was, but she took it. And she took a bite and she goes, hmm. And then she just kept eating them. And we're like, okay. So we would just buy the little cherry tomatoes for her.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Yeah, just to just to learn. And then she stopped. I'm down to. I try to do to limit myself to two sodas on the like during, in the week. I try. It doesn't work. Well, like last week, I only did one. I was extraordinarily happy.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Like, I did one all week. I was just like, Bravo. But there's, I don't know, certain, watching certain sports triggers my winning a soda. Otherwise, I'm good with, like, tea.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Again, I drink a ton of water. Once a day or so, I'll get a sip of, like grapefruit juice or whatever or lemonade. I'll just get it, but I'm not drinking the whole glass full now. I can drink a whole glass full of pineapple juice. Well,
Starting point is 00:17:17 and then the other thing, so then what I have to get out of is, like I'm getting back into a relationship with grapefruit. And I forgot how much I like grapefruit just as grapefruit juice. My grandpa used to love grapefruit for breakfast and I can't. It's the jam. Like I, again, If I do the cucumber water and grapefruit in the morning,
Starting point is 00:17:39 that will be the thing that makes it work for me. So I'm learning as we go. But like I said, the idea that it's there. Don has a question about the grill off. Do we need to grill smoke on premise or can we bring it in? You can bring it in if you want to do it. I think for the neighborhooding, for the community, the networking, the friendship. You know, you grill and then everybody talks about it.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Yeah. Yeah, but you can bring it in. So Don, absolutely bringing it in. We want everybody to be a part of that. And again, that's Friday morning here at the station right here on 48th, 333, North 48th Street. Again, when you pull in, it'll be on the side. We've got parking on the side. Go down the little hill in the parking lot.
Starting point is 00:18:24 And we've got parking in the back. Well, we have space for, and we will have a plan because it may rain Friday morning. So that's the other thing. If it looks like it's going to rain. Friday morning grilled then bring it in. Yeah. Like just bring it in and come hang out with us. Matter of fact, like I said, if you're grilling, I would think that in that first
Starting point is 00:18:42 820 to 9 o'clock hour, we will bring some of you on air with us and just let you tell the story of why you're here and what you're doing. So. Eric's telling me to try a salad with some grilled chicken and a raspberry vinaigrette. Raspberry grater vinaigrette is amazing. I always keep something in the refrigerator. I've never had vinaigrette any type. Oh, balsamic is the jam jam I couldn't tell you
Starting point is 00:19:07 I've put like I think I've put balsamic in like a marinade for something Yeah no it's really good I mean especially just for like house salads Because I'm trying not to do Although I'm at that point where I will have You know grow chicken or chopped up chicken or turkey
Starting point is 00:19:25 You know kind of the Jake Sorensen version Where it's a handful on a plate Or you just Oh you're not just taking it out of the bag and eating it. Yeah, you're just putting it out of plate. Yeah, a psychopath. But just to have it so that,
Starting point is 00:19:38 again, the thing is, big meals take up a block of time where you're hungry, but the small meals keep it where you're eating, you're dressing whatever that hunger is at the moment. And then I said,
Starting point is 00:19:56 as the thing that I had to remember is my brother says this, as a track guy, he goes, I had to remember that sometimes when I thought I was hungry, I was actually thirsty. Yeah. And so he always said that the moment you get hungry, try water and then see if that fits. But pay attention to the fact that those small house salads is why restaurants serve it. It's filling.
Starting point is 00:20:18 And it's good for you. So it's been the process. Like I said, just trying to go through and at least be aware. I mean, I've got my 60th birthday coming up. And I was just like, you know, well, because you measure yourself. Yeah. Don says strawberry and chicken wrap with a raspberry vinaigrette is quite delicious. Yeah, you just get, but you have to do like, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:43 you have to have the little small ramekin or plastic cup of dressing. So you don't just dumb. You just a little drizzle. Yeah, a little drizzle. When you do get the chicken wraps and Canopy Street Market does some really cool chicken. wraps the sandwich wraps okay what you do is you get a little uh just a little serving like a two ounce serving of salad dressing and you just pour it a little each bite and it's amazing it's amazing like it keeps me from because i'll put four ounces of salad dressing on i got i think i'll just start
Starting point is 00:21:22 with like stealing bites of salad or whatever from my wife whenever she gets them as opposed to ordering an entire one for myself and not liking it and not eating it. Well, but I also have to change the fact that I don't need to eat all of everything anytime. Like, I was a poor kid. Like at heart, I'm still a poor kid. So wasting food and then not thinking, the psychology of thinking that you need to eat all of anything comes from that. And I have to, I have to address that. It's, man, I remember what it's like to be hungry, hungry.
Starting point is 00:22:00 And then you want it. The feeling of getting full is a psychology you have to deal with. Like it's, oh, to never have to worry about being hungry again. Yeah. So it's a constant battle. Again, as you can say, and I can't tell whether it's just toning or weight loss or not lifting. I think it's a combination of all three But as strict said
Starting point is 00:22:31 He goes man your jacket doesn't fit anymore You don't have to go down a size And I like I appreciate that But I need to keep going You're not going to have to worry about the big boy sizes anymore Well I'm a 2X I like wearing 3X
Starting point is 00:22:49 Anyway Some Apparel is better in Up a size So some of these The Adida stuff is in 4X. If it's cotton, and you go for it, I like having big hoodies that just kind of, you can just kind of swim it.
Starting point is 00:23:05 And it's not attractive to people, but I'm not trying to be attractive people. I don't care. I want to be comfortable. So the fact that there are hoodies, 4X hoodies, if it's only available in that, I'm going to get it. Makes sense. And I like wearing it. So, you know, it's been the battle in the journey and that's been fun. But yeah, I would say water.
Starting point is 00:23:24 water walking and rest. And rest for me is sometimes just the physical idol rather than a nap. But I'm better at taking that one hour nap during, you know, four o'clock. You don't take your one hour nap. If you're trying to reach me at four o'clock, 20 minutes of sleep at night.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Right? Like it's just, well, I'm better. Like I'm at least going to sleep at midnight. So, and then getting here, you know, I want to get here by, you know, 715. So, yeah, I'm not sleeping as much as I should, but I'm sleeping better. So we'll go through that. We need to get some of these. So as I'm looking down the text list, we need to get the predictions from some of our listeners. What do you think the Husker record is going to be? Don Micah, Nathan, Mr. Unlimited, Jeff and Boulder. Jeff and Boulder.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Chris Raff. We don't have Raff. We don't have. His name's on the board. So he, he's on the board. Maybe he has to write it down for him if he tells us. Right. Did you put a name on this 10 and 2? 7307. Yeah. We need to get that one. I don't know what to name them.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Well, we didn't get pork chopped. Yeah, so, you know, we got some folks. Text in and give us your predictions. Make sure we have your name. And then we will put all this stuff in the system. So we can track it all season long, have some fun with it as well. NBA game, NBA finals game three. College World Series softball, and then some of the wackiness of sports.
Starting point is 00:24:57 There's a lot of wackiness going on. Some really cool sports. We'll talk about that when we come back. Download our app by searching 93.7, the ticket in your app store. You're listening to One-on-One with DP on 937 the Ticket in the Ticketfm.com.
