Back to one-on-one with D.P.
Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 The Ticket.
Welcome back, final segment.
I'm just telling you, man, if you get a chance,
go find the Chris Everett, Martina Navratilova documentary.
And it's just so well done because it just goes into the history of tennis,
specifically women's tennis
but it goes into
going back to the 60s
and Billy Jean creating a place for women's tennis
like it kept ringing the bell
to today's NIL
of sometimes
somebody has to be a pioneer
that goes out and does the thing differently
than everybody else
and that money often moves it
and Chrissy came in and moved the needle
like you need a star
you need somebody that you can put out front
and then the villain
right?
you need the villain.
You need the hero, the villain.
You need the...
It's got to tell a story.
You know, and tennis has done that.
And we were just talking about it.
So they called it the greatest rivalry in tennis.
And then they said they modified it to the greatest rivalry in women's tennis.
And they mentioned two different men's rivalries.
You meant the one you mentioned on the break with Rafa and Federer.
And then Borg and...
that Borg and McEnroe back in the day.
And again, I think playing at Wilmleton and then 1816 set.
And when it was the only thing that was being watched at the time,
there were three networks and NBC had Wimbledon Sunday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Yep.
It was a tennis was really booming back back then.
I mean, in the 90s, 80s, 90s, tennis was really one of the more prominent
viewed sports in in in in in the world and also here in the united states everyone kind of everyone
knows john mackenroll you know talked to a casual tennis fan and they'll know who why did we not know
more about jimmy connor was that on purpose i don't know i think uh you know i think mackenroll
really leaned into the the hollywood scene after he was in movies and you know different different things
he's still prevalent in the the broadcasting scene now so i think he's kind of his name's
kind of just been, it has touched different areas of entertainment, not just tennis.
And Chrissy.
Chris has the same way.
Same way.
So I think maybe their names resonate more with general people.
That's interesting how that works.
Yeah.
I mean, everyone takes a different view or a different angle in life after they're done playing.
So some people really like the game.
Some people use it for different platforms later.
It was the thing that was said in that they both had to figure out.
out how important being a good, being a friend to other friends versus being number one in the
world and that they had to make sacrifices and they did.
And they're not sure they would do the same thing, the same way in retrospect.
Interesting.
And then the two rivals became best friends because they went through something bigger than
tennis.
And it was cancer.
Cancer has a way of doing that for you and put it in perspective.
sure i think once you're you know your whole life you're all you care about is being the best in
the world and then you kind of have like a real life moment where you have cancer and in your your
life is now on the line i think it just kind of recenters your your perspective and so i think that
was a really cool moment i haven't watched a documentary but i'll be for sure
it i think you i think you it would be great to to have your player watch too
100 i would i would think one more time let them know about link a challenge
how to be involved and where to find the information.

Well, maybe we'll let you use the ticket band to pick some people up.
Now we're talking, D.P.

Nebraska.

one of those events that'll,
it'll be rude.
