I still don't know what it is. You're like you dance. Okay. So disco was John Travolta Saturday, and it was a whole culture. It wasn't necessarily music. It was a whole culture of nightclub dancers in the, so think Club 54.

glitter and high afros and chest open shirts big lapel cultural thing not a music thing well the music thing so imagine that you you could list off so start with the beegees okay yeah but you have to get mid-bgis early bgis was australian country and soul because barry gibbs sounded he sang to black people. Okay. To black music. Like the Bee Gees crossed over before we knew what they looked like. It was like, oh, that's three white dudes.

Like we didn't, you didn't know. Like you didn't know. The Commodores crossed over, like Brickhouse became a disco song, but it was really just a dance song. So 70s, if you could dance to it, it was considered disco. Now, there were some people, you know, disco duck, and there were certain songs that were disco trendy. But, like, Trump would say Sister Sledge was disco.

But. Bill and Bennett's saying disco is dead and just should stay that way. Well, but that was the whole point was that it became kind of that red flag sort of thing that we do now with pigeonhole people. Like people were mad at Taylor Swift or Dixie Chicks or whoever you're mad at. in the music. Oh, yeah,

yeah, like, and it was that it's the third thing that we talk about. Third of the people love disco, third of people hated disco,

no matter what was there, because they didn't want to dance. Basically, it was dudes who didn't want to dance wore disco socks t-shirt. Sorry, Bill and Bennett, truth is true.

The dudes who would yell disco suck were guys who, who didn't, you just didn't want dance. And that was fine, because there's more girls for me. It was more girls for me. Your girl was,

your girl was, coming to the dance to hang out with me while you would your guys chug and beer mad at the world sorry like i figured that out pretty early going to predominantly white schools that i love the school dances a lot of the cool whiteos didn't want to go to the dances in the 70s and 80s they didn't they didn't dance but for the girls always like to dance they always like to dance. So I would go to and again, oh,

you're going to go watch me play football on Friday night. You're going to cheer for me. And then Saturday night, you're going to get to dance with me. And a third of the guys aren't there. Yeah, I guess I've made that mistake. Once I skipped homecoming to go hang out with the guys.

Good call. Good call. And I dropped the ball on that one. Oh. And the next day I found out, I was like, oh, Whoops, missed that. Well, here's the thing that what happened was that a lot of my white friends figured out,

hey, Derek, teach us how to dance because you're making out like a man man. Tat, Betty, take, go get Becky. Becca? Yeah, Rebecca. She will explain this as simple as we can explain it. That in the 70s and 80s, there were people who, like, that was kind of the division part of It was those who dance and those who didn't dance. And we were in it.

As a matter of fact, that's literally how, I mean, Becky and I start hanging out was dancing. And she would tell you, I wasn't going to dance. But she was a dancer. You know, she didn't dance the way I did, but she danced. She's probably, Harrison's trying to get her. And she's probably running from him. She's probably running from him. Yeah, get her in here.

Get her in here. All right. So Bill and Bennett, so he says this thing, disco is dead and she's say that way forever. And again, I try to explain that we figured out in the late 70s, early 80s that there were two kinds of people. There were people who danced and people who didn't. Oh, my.

There were people who dance and people who didn't. And to say that you and I wouldn't have ever dated if we didn't dance. True. True. And is it true when I say that there were, I broke up with people because they couldn't dance. Yes. Yes. And one of the great advantages that Becky had is that she would dance. And that you didn't break up with me when I danced. Oh, that was the other, yeah, because that was a big. Because that was sad. Oh, it was Harrison. There was nothing more, more, more painful. then and you'd see a beautiful woman and okay okay you know oh god when we went to we would go to nightclubs together and she would just go dance and i'll be here like i'm doing my thing and people would

women would approach and becky could just see the the car crash like just going oh no this is not good so becky and all of her friends dance remember you were on the day dance team in high school, right? Yes. Right. So being able to identify Harrison skipped his prom. There's a one homecoming. He skipped his homecoming. And I just went, the guys who didn't dance did us dancer guys a favor. Definitely. More for the pickings. Well, let's see. I just, I just, just the simplest thing. And then we'd say it, we'd go to clubs. And it didn't matter what kind of club, because we could go to a country club.

and we would line dance. We could go to a rock bar and we would dance. Awkwardly dance. We can't really dance to rock, but okay. I try to sway that. White people can dance to rock. Well, this is what we were talking about, was that what got us started was footloops.

Yeah. And just going that, and we just figured out that it wasn't Kevin Bacon going to a Midwest town. He went to a Texas town. Yeah. I thought it was, because of the tractor. Oh, sure.

Was it? I don't even remember. It's Beaumont, Texas. Is it Beaumont? It's Beaumont, Texas. Home of Exxon Mobil. Beaumont, Texas. Someone said it was filmed in Utah, though.

I am not surprised by any of that. Filmed in Utah, claimed to be Beaumont. Yes. Frankly, I've been to Beaumont many times. Tractors? Yeah, it's an oil town. Not really tractors.

No, it's not farmland. It's oil land. There's refineries everywhere. Well, we think of the, like, the dancing at the end, where they're in like a barn or something. I know. They are in a barn. Yeah. I mean, I'm sure there is, but I mean, this is oil land, right? It is refineries and you've got the pumps, right? You know, and the land that you see on TV out of the ground and all that kind of stuff. So yeah, there would have been some land there and a barn somewhere. Now, here's, so in truth, again, we would have

never dated or been married if she couldn't deal with me dancing and she didn't know how to dance. Well, he couldn't deal with the fact that I couldn't dance. Well, the first date was like asking her around. She's like, I don't dance the way you do. This is not going to go well. Not going to go well. So hence, go dance with other people that can dance. I'm fine.

Yeah. And that was literally. And then I worked up to it. I could not hold my own next to him ever, but I could not be embarrassed. No, I mean, we can be dance partners and not hate each other when we're done. Yeah. So it's there. Thank you.
