Starting point is 00:01:55 the universe we i do want to spend you guys deserve to be heard today so i want your text um we're gonna we're going to get through. So I'm going to pick up where we left off. Bill and Bennett says this. Bill. Well done. He says, why are you even reading stupid people's texts that are negative on air?
Starting point is 00:02:15 We should all just be smiling on day and celebrate the Husker win. Texer says this. Win a one score game, win the turnover battle, win against the P4 team in the opening, celebrate all weekend. I'm in. That sounds like a pan.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Sounds like a plan. Texture 1022 says this. Emmett had a bad drop. And then the play after that came like a man possessed to make it right. That is the right attitude. Don't get down. Get up, shake it off, and fight back. Fails with breakfast.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Shake it up. Tom says this. I'm not sure why people are disappointed with the defense. There were unknowns at the beginning of the season. Other than defending the quarterback run, they did very well. For starters, the defense got two turnovers. Now, people are disappointed with the offensive performance. I understand that, since I think the expectations are and should be greater for the offense than the defense.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Chase B says this. Chase B, how are you doing? It says it was a one score game, but we really were up by 10 most of the game. That's how I see it. Mike says, I think Big 10 teams all run between the tackles really struggled there. 100% of our conference foes saw a struggle in the middle. I know that Michigan is drawing up as they should. but also know that that will not be the scheme against Michigan.
Starting point is 00:03:35 That will not be the scheme. That will not be the defensive scheme. Ryan and Nashville, you're having fun. He says, oh, Frost, he almost dropped the ball last night. 1710 in the last quarter, literally last drive. It was 1010. And they were on the defense. They had UCF.
Starting point is 00:03:57 They had the ball at UCF's four. and absolutely crapped a bit. Gave the ball back, took a drive, touchdown, 1710. Of course, the lightning delay was something interesting, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Look at Farley outside. Look at your man. Look at your man. Look at your man. The OGCJ says, hey, DP, don't forget that since he could have also improved. Can't say that Nebraska didn't play well
Starting point is 00:04:23 when we don't know how good since he may be. All in fact. And then Texas says, Remember, Wyoming being Akron said nothing. An ex-opponent hasn't scored yet. Hadn't scored. That's a good Wyoming defense. They got a shutout.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Got a shutout. When I stopped watching Houston Christian, opponent number three, because I want eyes on, imagine my heart, mind you, they're playing Arkansas Baptist. At the time I stopped watching, Houston Christian had put up 62 points. 62.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Yeah, not sure what the value system is in Elizabeth, 62 points is there. Rodney says this DPA, I only got to see part of the fourth quarter. What was our discuss rate of scoring after we got beyond the 50 yard month? The one-fourth down that didn't work. actually we weren't beyond the 50 down. We were, yeah, we were at the 42.
Starting point is 00:05:34 So there were two misses along the way. So, yeah, adjustments. I said, why did the Huskers go for it on fourth down at midfield up two possessions late in the game when a punch sure would have pinned them? The belief system of coaches is that what you've practiced, what you've prepared for, and then what you see. and if you think that now the play call people saw em it and said that dillon was late to emitt in the left out of third but me as a coach when i saw this he was in the slot it was fourth and two
Starting point is 00:06:15 he was in the slot to hit to dylan's right with the greatest amount of swatts wide side of the field uh to me what you would hope is that dylan makes the easy throw or what we think is an easy throw. You don't know if a defender gets his hand in the throwing window. But he, he was going to get two yards before that defender got downhill to get him if that's. But if Dylan doesn't like that, Dylan knows that defender,
Starting point is 00:06:46 he's done his scot work. He didn't like, he didn't like it. So he took his eyes back to Emmett. By that point, he was late. So the scheme was right. The execution didn't have. But that's what happens.
Starting point is 00:07:00 That's what happens. I'm okay with them going forward. If you believe you can get two yards. And again, you may also feel like, let's lock this thing up. We keep the ball here. It's a rap. We can go home.
Starting point is 00:07:13 So I understand that. Texas says, I want to hear specifically you talk about the O-line play, specifically left tackle. It was a rotation. It was, my goodness, it was Mary Garendt. Between Pritchard,
Starting point is 00:07:32 Gunner and Turner Corcoran and literally bought. We were in the conference room watching the game and when we see the rotation that Turner Corcoran and Teddy Pahaska are the tackles at any point. We threw confetti.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Like it was like, oh, we're so back. Look, we're back. Nebraska football's back. When you get Pahaska and Corkran as the as the bookends, throw confetti. Right? Like, it's just like, Um,
Starting point is 00:08:02 2021 all over. Right. Like, hey man, let's say who we are. But then the rotation, they went back to Pritchard. Pritchard had the false start in,
Starting point is 00:08:12 in the red zone. And they got after Dylan got after him, his teammates got after him. I'm sure the coaches got out. You made the switch. Katola came in. Katula came in, played a few series.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Corkran played a few series. Then the final couple series, it was back to Pritcher. Late sack was a coverage sack. Late pressure, Pritchard man beats him off the edge. He sacks Dylan. Again, happens in the space.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Offensive line play, you rush for 100 yards and you kept Dylan relatively clean. Relatively clean. There were some decisions that were made. But how are you grading? the offensive line. Pancakes. 100 plus, you had 100 yard rusher.
Starting point is 00:09:08 That's a metric for that, right? Does that, do you degrade that? Do you devalue the 100 yard rushing? Do you devalue the 250 yards passing, 240 yards passing? Well, I think it was funny because I did the, I kind of did the, you know, everybody does. I suppose you kind of think about the grades that you would give each position.
Starting point is 00:09:30 And I kind of, it was kind of funny because I went through. I said quarterback played pretty good. Running back played was pretty good. Wide receiver play was pretty good. Tight in was pretty good. Offensive line. And then you have to stop and think, wait a minute. If everybody's playing pretty good, then maybe the opposite line outside of a few moments, right?
Starting point is 00:09:48 There were some, those plays that you highlight. But probably did pretty good. Like, I mean, we didn't have, we didn't have the full chain of holding penalties that we've had. Right? We didn't have anybody falling backwards before the snap, right? Just because. So take the wins and then take the lessons as well. You don't want false starts. You're shooting for perfection. I don't know how they grade it out. It'll be interesting to see when that information comes out. So funny sir says, my kids are my greatest teacher for how to grow as a fan. They've only ever known the last five years of Husker. Football, I get frustrated over how things look for my own expectations.
Starting point is 00:10:30 and they ground me because they're just happy we won. Disgolf Jake says this. Week one football looked like week one football. People demanded to win the close one score game and they did. They wanted to win the close one score game and they did. People ought to breathe a little, a little bit and chill. Big B says it looked very much like a first game. So there's room for improvement.
Starting point is 00:10:57 We got to win, take it and move forward. Um, Texer says this. DP, great game. A lot of learning to do after that game, but they finished. And that's what matters most to go big red. We'll get to the top half of this thing. And you guys have been active. So thank you.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Greatly appreciate it. We'll start. We'll do them in order, bot. Um, see, Mundin says this. I feel pretty, uh, feel pretty confident, uh,
Starting point is 00:11:20 with that being our first game. Every team has to shake the first game jitters and rust off. Yep. I, listen, I'm not going to completely go up against the first game thing. because there naturally are going to be, I mean, every, every coach, as you know, is going to back you up on this. You don't know, you don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:37 You're ironing things out. So all that does factor into play. But I do feel a bit, I feel like it looked a lot cleaner in week one than it's looked the last two years in my mind. So, I mean, you didn't have that many penalties. You know, you didn't have any turnovers. Three. So, I mean, all the week one stuff, like, there's some truth to it, but it was actually
Starting point is 00:12:00 pretty good for week one football. Hey, let me, let me be the first to say it. It looked like a well-coached team. There you go. It looked like a well-coached team. They were in the right, they were, they were lined up properly. The reeds were good, right? Some of the execution has to work, but that's a football thing.
Starting point is 00:12:21 That look, they looked like a prepared, a well-prepared, well-coached football team. And for everybody who said yesterday, I want them to look like they can. I want to look like they know what they're doing. I want to look like they're well coached. Well, you got all those. You got all those. Prices from last night. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Okay. Loaded fries. Seasoned curry fries with chicken tenders, casso and boom boom sauce. 2789. I'm just about what my wife got. I just did not understand when she brought it back. I looked at my phone chair.
Starting point is 00:12:56 I said, what else did you buy? What else did we get? You got the notice. You got the credit card notice. Hey, man. Are you at Arrowhead Stadium? Spending $30 on chicken tenders, bro? I get it.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Look, I love that. I love that feature, too, because it sometimes reminds me. Yeah, that's really a thing. That's really a thing. Eric says, DP, I need way more deep programming than you can handle. Nope, I'm, listen. As a coach and as a mentor, I'm used to reprogramming folks. to take it easy on yourself.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Take it easier on yourself. Brances is how many wins we get averaging 20 points a game? That is a legitimate question. 20 points a game, we don't know the answer. And I would imagine, I would imagine that that's not the ideal. But there are games where if you only give up 17 points a game or 16 points a game, I think last year they gave up, what, 14 a game? Based on those metrics, you win more games than you lose.
Starting point is 00:14:04 So not ideal and never ideal. We're never going to get to ideal Nebraska football. The great Tom Osborne teams weren't perfect. They weren't perfect. They were effective. They were productive and they won. But you forget, those teams weren't perfect. For all he would tell you, he can tell you the games in which
Starting point is 00:14:29 he had mistake, mental mistake. Maybe I, you know what? Maybe my athletic ability covered for a thing that I missed. But okay. Or maybe I was out of position and Jay Foreman yelled at me and got me in position or vice versa. But we don't, we don't talk about that. Revision is history. Hale to the victors and being able to tell the story the way you want to tell it. But the reality is, there are no, ask the Eagles if they were perfect in the Super Bowl. Absolutely not. But they won the Super Bowl. They won the Super Bowl. you're just trying to skip some steps here. Yeah, we all want to win every game 56 to 14.
Starting point is 00:15:05 And many of those games, you know, Osborne's teams got to that point, but they're top five team every year in the nation. I mean, and those teams can do that. But if you're Nebraska, I mean, people might not like the comparison to Iowa, but I was how to has a whole program based on we're going to score 20 and we're going to win. Because, I mean, that's how we, that's how we win. We, you know, we kind of formulate it that way. So it's a way to do it.
Starting point is 00:15:27 And Nebraska, again, isn't going to jump from never winning one possession games and losing season after losing season and finally going to seven and six to beat everybody 56 to seven. I mean, it's just likely not going to happen. Now, again, Indiana can do it. So we all point to Indiana say, who's going to be Indiana? There's there are. Illinois. There you go. Look, look, it doesn't have to be perfect.
Starting point is 00:15:53 It's not going to be. Not early on. That's just not how it works. Dave Brasquez says it took six hours, almost twice as long to get to herald yesterday because of nine construction zones. Regardless of that, horrible parking situation,
Starting point is 00:16:07 horribly overpriced. Stadium food, a win is a win. I can applaud that text. I can applaud that. Texas says this, I think as the game went on, fans started realizing how bad Cincinnati actually is,
Starting point is 00:16:21 it started to expect the huskers to start pulling away, but it never happened. I'm disappointed in that, but absolutely happy to get it done. And again, the expectation thing, I don't know why you would expect the Big 12 team to be terrible. And listen, they weren't terrible. They made plays in the red zone. They, look, they made some sharp adjustments.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Their ability to flip, there were three big third downs where they flipped from their traditional zone coverage to man coverage. And then they went to a cover too. Why? To confuse Dylan. To put defenders in spaces that Dylan thought were going to be available because they had been earlier. Give Cincinnati. That's not a terribly coached team over there. Listen,
Starting point is 00:17:00 they were prepared. They were well prepared. So I'm okay thinking, you hope that they blew them out, but no, you know. Texas says, from Kansas says spinning anywhere, the D-line is not good.
Starting point is 00:17:17 They won. Are you telling me Cincinnati's D-Line is better? Who's happier today? Cincinnati's D-Line or Nebraska. who slept better Bryce says I hate fan scream for wins
Starting point is 00:17:36 then complaining about how a game was one man Say that It ended like I was expecting Wasn't what I was hoping for For a few more points I'm going to lower my season wins Expectation from 9 and 3 to 8 and 4
Starting point is 00:17:53 Again Whatever expectations you have You're free to have I'm not going to judge you on your expectation. Maybe expectation is the wrong word. Because we don't know the other 11 teams that we're playing. We just met Nebraska. We just met them and we met them in a vacuum in a unique situation.
Starting point is 00:18:21 Factor in that eight of the next 11 games will be played at Memorial Stadium. Does that make them better? Better situation? again, we'll find out when we find out. Data is happy. Team showed a lot of grit. Hamad Bean says this team showed a lot of grit and resilience. Every time there would be a mistake made,
Starting point is 00:18:40 said guy would put it behind him and make a play. Yep. Learning. Learning. Developing. Jopi says, people just need to stop being and be positive. Go be great. Yeah, I understand the whole, you know, do the thing.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Like, okay, I want to be the fan. I want to be hurt. and I want to feel how I feel. Okay. Here we go. Deep into the vault. Let blanket says that celebrate all wins, especially when playing a powerful opponent,
Starting point is 00:19:09 and you make the critical plays in a close game to get the victory. Lots of positives. Clean game, kicking game was excellent, efficient third down offense, but there are certainly red flags from last night. Nebraska allowed seven yards per carry. If that continues, it will be a huge problem.
Starting point is 00:19:24 All of that makes sense. All of that makes sense. All of that makes sense. Nebraska still lacks game breakers on offense. They average five yards of pass the attempt and had a long run of 16 yards. Facts. Now, some would say we saw the green flags
Starting point is 00:19:42 of Hunter's big game capability. We saw, and we have seen that Barney can provide some of that. And, oh, it looks like Dane Key could be the guy. He could be that dude. Being poor against the run with an offense that lacks explosive plays makes winning tough. Almost need to play almost perfect football to win.
Starting point is 00:20:10 For what happened in week one, away from home against a big 12 team, a powerful team, do what you need to do to win. That's the override. Live to fight another day with a win. This program has been recently just deep in the quicksand that in those situations they didn't find a way to win. Even not being perfect in the past, there are one-score games that Nebraska could have figured out a way to win.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Finishing is the most difficult thing in all sports. We keep saying it. But when you check that box, you get to have different discussions. That box was checked last time. Husker says this. it wasn't pretty, but we won. That's all we need to worry about.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Cool hand, Luke says, how about Archie dropping the punch inside the 10? Again, another added value, right? A thing that in the things that were talked about before the season, it actually showed up. It actually showed up. Bravo! Bravo!
Starting point is 00:21:21 Texas says defensive line definitely seems to be our biggest concern this year, zero pressure, which less tours will be run all over us. Nope, that's not what happened. That's not what it allowed. Again, tell me what the scheme was. Tell me what the rules of engagement were. If you tell me that against a dual threat quarterback that you ask your front, your interior linemen,
Starting point is 00:21:46 to stay in their lane, get their hands up to make the passing lanes dirty, and then allow your playmakers behind you to get him to the ground. Because that's what the scheme was. That's what the plan was. The plan wasn't to get six sacks. You hoped that you could do it. But sometimes in implying that sort of pressure,
Starting point is 00:22:08 you break down and you allow open lanes. Sorbsby didn't kill Nebraska. They scored 17 points the whole game. Would you rather have Sorbsby beat you or would you have take the risk and have him get outside and break down your defense? What would you rather have happened? I don't say, as often the pressure that forced him
Starting point is 00:22:30 to start to scramble that allowed him to run downhill. Now, there was one giant open middle of the field run that he had. But, yeah, I mean. One out of the entire game. Right. We're literally talking about a running court. Listen, this is a program that we watched Adrian Martinez do this to every good defense in the Big Ten for four years.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Was it because other teams were terrible in the defensive front? I don't know. Ohio State and Michigan had a lot of top flight number, number of. one round defensive linemen and edge rushers over the course of that career. Were they terrible? Were they terrible for letting Adrian Martinez run for 100 and still win the game? No, you made a choice. You made a choice.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Big Haas says this. When rule is at Baylor and Temple in his third year each, what was scores of the first games of those third season? We can invest in it. Crow bait, how you doing, bro? So it says positively won negative after watching the postgame show last night and waking up at 3.30 this morning. I'm dragging you and me both. Austin and I shut it down at 1.30.
Starting point is 00:23:42 We said it down at 1.30 and it could we could have. Okay. So a couple of things I need to do before we go to break.
