Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to One-on-One with D.P. Sponsored by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Welcome back. One-on-one, Bach of the Black shirt following right behind simplicity in the space. We have partners that we need to thank. Who might they be, sir? Absolutely. Julie our two here is sponsored by Shwezo Construction, where safety isn't just a policy, it's a promise.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Shuiso is hiring skilled craftsmen, laborers, concrete workers, and steel erectors who value quality work in a team that has your back on and off the job site. Applied today at Shuiso.com, 40 years strong in business, Shuiso Construction. Yeah, it's, and I had another text director of my phone asking about, so, Russellmania is April. April in Las Vegas. But Haas and I were trying to have the discussion yesterday over. So it used to be the big four. So in tennis, it's the big four events, right?
Starting point is 00:01:20 Wimbledon, U.S. Open, Australian, French. Right? And then sometimes people try to sneak into it. NASCAR has its big four events, and then another event will sneak into it. It used to be the big four bowl games now. You know, Fiesta Bowls kind of snuck back into it. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:35 They built the place and they realized that Arizona has seasonal season around weather so that they can have events there. We tried to come up with the WW4, Big Four. So it used to be the Big Four, right? That WrestleMania, SummerSlam, we were trying to figure out Survivor Series, Crown Jewel, Money in the Bank, Elimination Chamber. and then pointing out that that's how WWW works its season, its calendar. Its calendar is built around six major events and then another six that fill in.
Starting point is 00:02:23 So month to month, pay-per-view. And then of the big events, there's another pay-per-view in between those big six. Royal Rumble being one of the big one of the big four turned big six right Bach in your mind what are the big four events
Starting point is 00:02:47 I think that obviously WrestleMania and SummerSlam are no doubt I mean WrestleMania is the Super Bowl SummerSlam's kind of the halfway point to the Super Bowl so those have got to be in there I think traditionally I would say
Starting point is 00:02:59 money in the bank and Royal Rumble have kind of taken those spots however Crown Jewel I mean, they make a lot of money doing that and they put a huge card into Crown Jewel now. So I would say Crown Jewel's probably taking money in the bank spot. Not that money in the bank isn't. Well, that's the one that determines the champion, though. It does, but they've lessened that in my mind over the years because sometimes they have the money in the bank winner.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Go after the United States championship title or something like that. For me, it's Royal Rumble because that is supposed to kind of tell you who's going to be the main event for the upcoming WrestleMania. Now they toyed with that again over the last couple of years too. So a little bit there. But in my mind, at this point, you can't deny WrestleMania, you can't deny SummerSlam, and you can't deny Crown Jewel. And so if you want to deignor it to four,
Starting point is 00:03:44 I think you'd have to make a big. And I'd go Rumble. Rumble, Money in the Bay, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, has always been one that allows them to craft stories out of those having all the wrestlers in play. But that's the four or the six, right? And here's the schedule.
Starting point is 00:04:06 So it looks, it's always funny. So this, just based on this year. Royal Wumble was in San Antonio in January. WrestleMania was in March, right? So two months later, you had it in your house event that went in between King of the Ring. We didn't even talk about, right? Which is certainly a thing. SummerSlam in August.
Starting point is 00:04:33 biggest event of the summer. Survivor series in November. It's kind of all over the place, right? And then you spread it out. So looking at events, I was trying to look at, think about it in a Matt sense that I don't know. The original four, yeah, the original four was Rumble, slam, WrestleMania, Survivor series.
Starting point is 00:04:57 But then money in the bank and king of the ring and elimination chamber, crown jewel, which is money, takes you to the eight, but then there's, so imagine one per month, with six of them being the big majors, every three months, one of the original four. So in that space. And then the filler events that it allow you to craft. And sometimes, again, if you're writing a story in January
Starting point is 00:05:25 for a storyline in September, that sometimes that character gets hurt, contract issues, all the things in place. It'll be interesting, right? It's pretty interesting. Jordan from Wolver says this. Maybe you already listened to it, but something to wrestle with Bruce Pritchard on Spotify,
Starting point is 00:05:47 the older episodes, has great behind-the-scenes content on this kind of stuff. And WWE's done a really good job. As a matter of fact, to its own demise and own discomfort that they have taken some of the behind the scenes and showing Triple H during matches, talking about the storywriters
Starting point is 00:06:10 and being in those rooms, people are sharing it. Some of it has even gone to the level of espionage and subterfuge of people trying to find cameras and cell phones in those spaces. And Bach, it's fascinating to me, right? Like, how far behind the curtain do you want to see? Like, you're a wrestling fanatic.
Starting point is 00:06:35 So how far, do you want to know everything or do you want some of it to be a surprise? You do want the entertainment, the entertainment aspect of it, but some of the psychology you want the mental dance, right? Oh, absolutely. And I think that that's, it's harder and harder with the modern day wrestling fan, right? I mean, you go on Twitter, you're going to see spoilers, this. that, the other thing. And that can hurt. I mean, imagine the, the rumors kind of started circulating. I think Brock was somewhat of a legitimate surprise, but the Seth Rollins cash in, there's this big
Starting point is 00:07:06 question in the internet wrestling community about whether he's going to return. And maybe there's reasons to believe that he might. And so if that was just like a genuine surprise, it would have been incredible and shocking, but it was kind of half expected. Still was incredible, I thought, but still, I mean, so that's kind of, I love that they've got a show on Netflix called WW Unreal that just released. And that's what I like is going back in time and then seeing kind of how they crafty. They're getting as big of a peek behind the curtain as I can't because like you said, I'm really into all that.
Starting point is 00:07:38 I want to see exactly how they get to decisions, conversations that they have with some of the wrestlers, all that sort of stuff. So I love the behind the scenes. I just don't necessarily, I wouldn't know if I would necessarily want it for like, okay, well, here's what the card's going to be moving forward. You know, I don't want to forward thinking. I want to look in the past and see how they arrived to a decision. I don't want any spoilers for the future.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Yeah, I don't want to know everything. I just want to know the stuff I want to know. Like it's a pretty interesting thing going through it. You find out what intrigues people and what does. And it's the story. But interesting going forward as well. with everything that happens in UFC and the branding, the fact that they're under one umbrella,
Starting point is 00:08:25 a lot of the marketing crosses over in the type of fan experience. And that's literally why in dealing with or considering Nebraska's open practice, right, an introduction to this year's team. And it's a great opportunity, fan fest, to get autographs to have your young people meet the players and they're lined up there and you get pictures and autographs and all that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Necessary, wonderful. But then to be careful not to misconnect what the event is for. Like if it's a fundraiser, it's a fundraiser. If it is for the football fanatic, it's another. They're not always connected that way and there's not always the same priority. And it's a reality. It's a big week in Husker Athletics because this is the week where it starts. to take off and you have to be aware that this is a volleyball week.
Starting point is 00:09:26 This is a volleyball and soccer week. And I don't want to devalue that. That soccer is the first exhibition. They travel to South Dakota State tomorrow for an exhibition. And then they come back Friday night. at home, Colorado State. But can you look and see what the ticket price and availability is for Nebraska soccer Friday?
Starting point is 00:10:00 Because that's what I kind of want to do. Like I actually enjoy going to Hibner. I actually enjoy women's soccer. So I do want to shout them out and send people to attend Friday night. And then Saturday, the red white scrimmage. So it actually becomes a really big, important,
Starting point is 00:10:23 festive sort of Husker weekend if you can put together tickets for the red, white scrimmage at 2.30 on Saturday after 7 o'clock soccer against Colorado State at Hibder on Friday. Bach, what does it say? Does it give a ticket price? Still trying to run that down. Yeah, that would be a thing.
Starting point is 00:10:44 and I think it's important to pay attention to the other stuff. Textor 9183, literally that none of what you just said is true. None of what you just said is true. I'm going to actually engage this. This is what the texter said by. Ready for this? He says it's August in Lincoln, Nebraska. That means we don't care about fake wrestling right now.
Starting point is 00:11:18 We care about Husker football camp. Please learn some things about Husker football so we can enjoy some of your show. Thank you. I understand you love wrestling, but you have to meet us in the middle. Now, who are you talking to? Are you telling you telling Bach he doesn't know about Husker, that he doesn't care about wrestling and he doesn't know about Husker football? You asking Bach to meet you in the middle?
Starting point is 00:11:46 Or you asking me to meet you in the middle? because I've met I know a little bit about Husker football Bach, is that a fair statement? I would say so. I would say, I would, so if you're new to the text line, I just a couple of things.
Starting point is 00:12:03 A couple of things. We spent hour one talking about practice, Husker, Husker camp, and the value of the season. And in two hours, because we had nine Husker football fans, text in and ask us to talk about wrestling, we did.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Nine. So the extremes of it are simple. Now, I go to Husker practices that you can't and don't. If you have a question about Husker football, ask me. Ask us. But to send in that text, less than stellar. Less than stellar. I mean, we have Luke Lindermeyer on.
Starting point is 00:12:54 We talk on a regular basis to McGahey Jr. and Dylan Raolo, we literally sent four people to Big Ten media days in Vegas to spend time with the 18 athletic directors in the Big Ten, the 18 head coaches in the Big Ten football conference. We talked to 54, actually more than that, because some people bought more than three players. We talked to 50 plus players. key players in the Big Ten Football Conference.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And we talked to them for four days, brought that information to you, had those conversations. We talked to the sports information directors from every Big Ten football program. I spent all of last week talking about the historical depth of Nebraska's football program and it's five Football Hall of Famers who made it to the NFL Hall of Fame. And then, oh, by the way, we're literally. going to walk in here and bring in one of the most recent Husker Football Hall of Famers in Terrell Farley for the next two hours. What we do better than anybody else in the entire state of Nebraska is constantly, consistently, consistently, and in full detail, talk about Nebraska athletics, historical, present, and future.
Starting point is 00:14:26 We meet the players. We bring the players in all year long. For 18 hours a day, seven days a week, you have access to live Husker football, athletics, pro sports, college sports, high school sports, the nonprofits in Lincoln and otherwise. And you know why? Because we love it.
Starting point is 00:14:57 We care. we are the bridge. We ask you to meet in the middle. So how about that? If you're asking somebody to meet in the middle, how about you come meet the nine Husker football fans that wanted to talk wrestling? How about you meet them in the middle?
Starting point is 00:15:13 How about you get off your side of the bridge, come to the middle, and actually engage people in your community who want to talk about something else? For a moment, just for a moment, until. until the Husker Hall of Fame and the black shirt comes in here and takes you through the next two hours. The text line is a convenience. But if you say something like that,
Starting point is 00:15:40 you were saying it to me, so guess what? You get to smoke. I'm as friendly and as happy a person that exists. But when you say stuff like that, being held accountable is what makes us grownups. Be accountable for what you said. We have a show.
Starting point is 00:16:05 But we had those texts. We literally read those texts. I'm not making that up, correct? No, yeah. Literally those texts said, hey, can you please transition from Husker football to pro wrestling for a moment? We did it for one second.
Starting point is 00:16:18 And that's what we got. And the text line is fully getting it. Hey, bro. Hope you have a better Monday than what we're having. Here's what I'm going to do, though. I've got some, and our friends from Daily, Dairy Queen dropped off some vouchers for us to give away free ice cream. And the way it reads is this, so you understand.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Celebrate your choice with a free small cone or dilly bar from Dairy Queen. There's 14 in the state that you can go to, but here in Lincoln, you have access to them. So 9183, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to offer you and somebody else. Two passes to go have some ice cream. Enjoy your Monday. I will leave them at the front desk. the ticket. Simple biz. This ain't person. This is sports radio. We'll be back. Close out one-on-one.
Starting point is 00:17:10 We'll be right back. Download our app by searching 93.7 the ticket in your app store. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 93-7 the ticket and the ticketfm.com.
