You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com.
One of my favorite lines from a movie.
Aim high, Willis.
You're welcome.
Is this your man's?
And the fact that it's Romney.
Bofio.
The fact that it's my boy, Romney.
Aim high, Willis.
We were just joking about the life in times of student athletes, specifically here at the University of Nebraska.
and it's such an interesting thing just to kind of get the bird's eye view of what's going on with them
and then you remember what it was like for you.
And my whole mission here is just to kind of bump and guide them into.
Michaela, probably not.
That's probably not the move.
That's a negative ghost story.
And she doesn't listen, but that's okay.
You know.
I guess I'll learn.
At least it was said.
You can't say that it was sad.
day one of sitting in this space with this young lady this magnificent young woman who talented beyond words all the energy and glow of a star and we sat back in the back and we just talked and i told her how great she was supposed to be you're not done you're just done here and as you move forward you now
will be in charge of other young Michaela's, the next Michaela's.
I don't know if that's a good thing or bad.
Yeah, he's the thing.
You're exactly the right person for it.
Because nothing was given, everything was earned.
Your passion for it and the way you love this thing that you do
is the right way to go about it.
In deciding to put young student athletes on air,
we had to choose somebody as the first one.
and kudos to Heather Brink for recommending she said I've got just the girl for you
and I met her and the first time we had a conversation
she she bared her soul and she told me who she was and where she was from
and I said you're going to be easy to cheer for anybody that ever knows you
gets to know you is going to love you whether you believe it or not
there are pioneers,
there are people who are willing to go first.
And not everybody has that in them.
And young lady,
if you don't pay attention
to how many people
followed in your footsteps
and introduced himself
to a thing that wasn't comfortable to them.
It's going to make me cry already.
I'm not trying to make you cry.
I just have to tell you
how special you are.
Again,
you came in here
when student athletes were afraid of the microphone.
They're afraid of being seen in a personal light.
They're all comfortable in the bright lights,
but that one-on-one where you have to expose yourself and share yourself.
And then what you've done was allow people access to you.
I can speak kindly.
I said, you're Rico's daughter's favorite.
Your Mark's daughter's favorite.
Mark's daughter isn't impressed by much,
but the moment Michaela Curtis's name comes up
in on while our household.
It is smiles and glow.
You've shared your family with this,
your amazing mom, and Melissa,
thank you for trusting me with your young lady.
But I'll say this.
You're off to your next thing.
You will excel in it.
Husker Nation is proud of you.
I'm proud of you.
I love what you've become.
I love the journey.
it is greatly appreciate
Mark just brought in tissues
Got you
Had to shoot a text out
real quick
Had to get some assistance
Mark had to bring in tissues
See
It's there in that space
You were the right person
For 93-7 the ticket
To get this thing started
And without you
There's no basketball show
There's no football show
There's none of that other stuff
Michaela Curtis
Thank you
You know I actually thought
that I left a bad impression because I'm not going to lie the first time we met like when I was
supposed to meet D.P. I didn't even know where this was and I got lost. Yeah. Everybody gets lost
the first time they come here. And I'm like, oh my gosh, he's going to hate me. He kicked out.
No, we were going to get a show. He's like, ah, actually, no.
Never mind. It changed my mind. No, you're the right one. You're the right one. And I'm sad that I
Miss Kinsey last week, but I will reach out to her directly.
What you guys did was spectacular.
And thank you.
It makes it, like, harder because, like, I kind of wish that I had more time.
Because I think, I only had, like, a season.
But I'm not going anywhere.
I know.
I'm not going anywhere.
I'm a phone call away.
I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
The coaching me, the dad in me, that's still there.
I'm going to bug you.
I'm going to bug you.
Are you taking care of yourself?
Are you doing all the things you need to do,
you so that you can be there for everybody else. And remember, and that thing that my coach said to me,
I'll say to you, remember that you cannot give water from an empty bucket. You got to keep water.
You got to take care of you first. And it is important. Vital cargo, Husker. Vital cargo. Let the
folks know where you're going and what's next. So as of it next week, I am moving to Greenville,
Illinois with Audrey actually on the swim show her fiance shout up to Zach because he actually
got me the job um okay let me back up Zach is the going to be the head coach or is I guess um of a D3
program in Greenville Illinois um they started a gymnastics program and one day we were kind of just talking
and he was like hey um there's a guy's program and a girls program he was like the the coach of the girls
program he's he wanted me to reach out to any of the seniors and I was like oh me me me um thinking like
nothing of it but I was just like why not I wanted to coach anyway I kind of knew that I wanted to
coach and I knew I wasn't going to stay here I've been kind of picky because I don't want to coach club
I wanted to coach college because I think the experience that I had with you know the cheering and
and how close knit the family is when you're in college is just a completely different process
and it's so much more fun to be involved in,
and that's what I wanted to be a part of.
So he gave me his number, and it kind of just went off from there.
I didn't really know what I was getting into,
and then I accepted a job as the graduate assistant,
so I'll be getting my master's there in coaching.
Kind of slim pick-ins there, so I decided to do coaching.
but I think it'll be cool because I never really saw myself as like a school person.
Like, I mean, yeah, I came to college, but it's kind of bad to say.
You're going to get your master's.
Yeah.
I mean, I came to college more for the athletics just because, like, that's my life.
I mean, obviously school came with that.
And I mean, I'm glad because I was actually thinking about this earlier.
Like, I guess I never realized how big of a deal it was to graduate college.
And I have two siblings, but I'm.
I'm the first one to graduate from college.
So I know that was a big deal for my mom.
Yeah, so I will be moving kind of to the middle of the country.
But you're going to do a show tonight.
Yeah.
You're going to say all your farewells?
You're going to do it by yourself.
You need somebody with you?
Well, you mean you?
Yeah, I can't sit in here and talk to myself.
Yeah, that's funny.
I feel like you could.
Yeah, I probably could.
It'd be super random.
I have like 8 million thoughts in my brain.
That needs to be said.
So 8 o'clock tonight, here one final time.
She'll run us through.
Young lady, thank you for what you do.
I guess we'll have to do it again tonight.
Yeah.
You head it out.
Oh, darn.
I'll cry more.
Don't worry.
Look, I'll put those right over there.
There we go.
I'm a very emotional person.
Be careful.
I'm going to put them next to the Chlorox wipes, so just be careful.
Captain's show coming up next.
Don't go anywhere.
Vishon will probably make you cry too.
It's Monday.
Don't go anywhere.
You're listening nine three-70 ticket.
