Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the couple Chevrolet GMC Studios. Here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery, on 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticket FM.com. Woo-wee. One-on-one. Brought you by Beatrice's Bakery. I am going to do the thing that we do.
Starting point is 00:00:35 because it's how I want to dismount from this week. I'm going to take more nominations from Beatrice Baker for Care Packages. Let's do that. Let's do that. Let me know who you're thinking about. Let me know who you want to pat on the back. Let me know who you want to cheer for. Celebrate.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Right? Simple. Who is it that you want to see smile who's doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes who is dealing with stress and expectation who's dealing with carrying a burden and who is carrying the extra extra extra weight who do you want to pat on the back and who do you want to see smile who do you want to see smile pretty simple go to ticketfm.com find the Beatrice Baker banner, click on it.
Starting point is 00:01:50 We'll put together a care package for somebody in your world who deserves needs. A pat on the back. Celebration. It was a good day yesterday to do that. And the nominations were strong. And it was a great day's work. And I saw that a couple people came by and picked up their stuff. So, yeah, let's do that.
Starting point is 00:02:17 But I want to do it today. It's Thursday. cold out. I got smacked. I got smacked by that cold this morning. A little cold? Oh, my goodness gracious. Oh, my goodness gracious. Um, but yeah. Pass on this weather. Well, yeah, it's just, it's supposed to be 60 in D.C. I was just say, are you going to better weather or? It's supposed to be 60 in DC. We're supposed to be 60 other weekend. Okay. Well, then hopefully. It's going to be good softball weather is what it's going to be. Hopefully you get, you get to do that. Have you talked to Mark about what you're going to do for spring game?
Starting point is 00:02:54 No. Oh, wait, no. We talked about it. I need to get confirmation. We're not going to hold up. I know. Credentials. Today.
Starting point is 00:03:05 I know. I need to get confirmation today. Like, please handle that. Yeah. 4-2-464-5-685. Sardhamming Text Line, Honda-Lincoln Hotline. You can put nominations for the Beatrice Bakery Care package. You can put it on text line if you need to.
Starting point is 00:03:20 That simplifies it for you. We want your, you want you to have the ability to do so. Don't want you to be bound by having to go on the website, but if you can and if you would, you'd be greatly appreciated. That's harder to. Heyman video stream is up. Facebook, YouTube, Twitch,
Starting point is 00:03:35 so you can see what's going on in the studio. Lots to talk about when it comes to Nebraska athletics and the good. I'm trying to remain neutral. on and I have to do better about finger pointing at the men's programs and highlighting the women's programs. What I should be doing is, and this is just from me, from me, to me, about me, that I need to do better about celebrating all the teams, no matter whether they're winning or losing. I can't, I don't want to be the person who tears one down and builds one up.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Right, that's not necessary, and that's not what we're here to do. Besides, it's not necessary. Like, it doesn't benefit anybody to say, well, the men's teams aren't playing well. Well, okay, duh. We can see that. Like that, that's low-hanging fruit. We should elevate and be better than that. And figure out what's going on with it.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Right? What if we can't figure it? Well, well, but then you keep saying that we can't figure it out, but we are still curious and we still care. Like, you can be vexed by it. and still not be a jerk in it. Like, don't be, you don't have to be angry about it. We're still trying to figure out what it is, that when you talk to,
Starting point is 00:05:05 when you talk to the baseball players, when you talk to the men's basketball team, when you talk to the football team, they're vexed as well. Oh, yeah. Like, nobody, nobody's working to do worse. As a fan, you can say you are vexed and you're, you know, not mad, not disappointed, like, sad that it's not working out. Well, you're not, but you, I don't care how diehard of a fan you are.
Starting point is 00:05:36 You are not feeling worse than the players themselves. Right. They've got more skin in the game. And I understand that your Husker fandom runs rampant and run them up, but it doesn't measure to what the young people go through. And that's also the way that we should. should we should be dealing with the young people a little more fluidly and positive. Like we're not making it any better for them by going, you guys aren't playing very well.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Figure it out. You know, like, no, that's why they're here and they're trying to figure it out. So as fans, be fans. And that's being supportive of. Look, it's tough. I mean, I'm getting a double whammy, you know. I've got Nebraska. And then I've got D.C.
Starting point is 00:06:22 and it is not good. Same. It is not good, right? Did you go, right with the Knicks? You go, okay, well, we can say we want better. We don't have to bash and go, oh, my God, what do you do? No, no, the reality is they are who they are. I root for the people in the community is more than the teams often.
Starting point is 00:06:46 It's like the grand result is a part of why you go all in. but knowing who the people are makes you care more that's just human nature so um and so learning about the student athletes
Starting point is 00:07:02 and their stories and and more about who they are as people which is what we've been trying to do here at the ticket and supply that's funny you're funny you're funny I can't even do with this James
Starting point is 00:07:16 it's funny Oh, I tried. I tried so hard. Oh, man. Well, this is so funny. Okay, so there was the thing, look, I, you can say it. It's full trans. I mean, it's your, look, it's your quote. So, as some of you know, did a sit down interview with Kent Walgamot from the Lincoln Journal Star. Chedototoh, Kent.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Absolutely. We'll get back to Kent next week. But in that, it's like, well, what are you doing? Like, what are you trying to do here? what's the mission, what's the purpose, what's the focus? And I said, well, quite frankly, just trying to connect Husker fans with the Husker student athletes. So they get to know them and we want to tell their stories and, you know, let you have relationships with them.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Give the fans access. You give them, you know, provide some great content and talk about their experiences. And that was literally, that was what we were talking about. Pretty good. It was pretty good. That's a good quote. And so, through. that over the course of
Starting point is 00:08:19 the months in which we've kind of transitioned to this version of the ticket where we're having more student athletes on and we will have more. We're actually going to have more. But wait, there's more. Yeah, we're going to have more, right?
Starting point is 00:08:36 Because there are more stories to be told. We don't have the full softball coverage that those young ladies deserve. That is true. Track does not have the support that it needs. I mean, they've got all Americans and everywhere. Right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:08:50 I mean, through that. A beautiful indoor track and a brand new outdoor track that is done but not done. The track is done, but everything else about the track is not done. Right, through all that stuff. All of this stuff, right?
Starting point is 00:09:08 And then have somebody take that and just say that. Look, in truth, we've had to fight and scrap to get stupid. and athletes and coaches on. There have been some roadblocks that weren't necessary in my mind because we're being allies to it, right? So we appreciate what it was. We'll keep working for that, just so you know.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Okay. Just to do that because some folks will say they're doing it. Text line says this. I think the poor Nick should be put on the list for a care package. I saw him last Friday night in his ticket uniform, polo and shorts, doing his duty on a fridge. night. I was glad to see that his boss let him wear more appropriate
Starting point is 00:09:55 slacks to the equally fridgy Sunday game. Nick dresses himself. What was he doing Friday? Is that baseball? Yeah, it was baseball. I was with him on Sunday. He didn't even wear a jacket. Here's the thing. I didn't send him. He went? I didn't dress him. He went of
Starting point is 00:10:18 his own accord. Of his own accord, his own volition. Nick's a big boy. He's grown up. I didn't make him. He makes a big boy. He dresses himself. He's got a hoodie on. I don't dress Nick.
Starting point is 00:10:31 I don't think he wore a jacket, though, again today. I don't dress. Sir, it is cold outside. Put on a jacket. Because I sent a picture, and Rachel said, Nick's mother raised him better than to not wear a jacket. Well, my only thing with the weekend was that he went, that he and Nate, I mean, they went to a ball game.
Starting point is 00:10:53 I didn't get invited. I didn't get invited. Well, you were invited Sunday because we knew you were going to be at pancakes. I wasn't invited. And that was the only game I went to. I don't know if they would. I know Nick went on Friday. I don't think Nate went.
Starting point is 00:11:10 I wasn't invited. I was not invited. I was not invited. You were at pancakes. We knew you were going to be a pancake. So we didn't invite you. I was not invited. And I would have invited you to that.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I won't be a pancakes this week. Well, you're going to be in Washington. You're going to be in D. So, hey, no, here, would you like to go to softball with me and my family on Saturday? Yeah, I would like to go, but thank you. I can't do it. You're going to softball this weekend? I believe we are.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Cool. Are you going to softball? I'll see you there. All right. So would you like to go? I'd like to go. I won't be able to go. Rico, Rico, did you get invited to softball Tuesday against Creighton?
Starting point is 00:11:46 No, I did not. I did. Yeah, exactly. I actually did. I really did. I got invited. I really did. I don't know what you were doing at 3 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:11:56 You were done. Well, you were done. I had my kids. So I was. That's why I didn't get an invite. And even if I did get an invite, I would have said no. There's always a break. Okay, so this is what we're going to do.
Starting point is 00:12:07 We're going to go to break. And then when we come back, we will bring in coach Barry Thompson here on one-on-one. Download our app by searching 93.7, a ticket in your app store. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 93. 37 the ticket and the ticketfm.com.
