Here's a guy that gives them more depth at UNLV, Everett, Gray.
He brings nine points off the bench for Coach Tarkhanian.
In less than 20 minutes of play in a game.
Here he'll have a chance.
Oh, as he goes up for the dump, Miller takes a piece of the arm.
two two on miller now team foul number five basketball player with a baseball background he was a third round pick of the astros and 87 was ever
gray welcome back to one-on-one we're talking to everett gray it is funny the timing um the batting practice thing
that we used to do in utah i brought it here to sal to lincoln and uh you know you're you're you're
yesterday we took some folks out
and they bad in practice
at the ballpark.
Bach,
Haymarket Park couldn't hold Everett break.
Oh, boy.
I went deep.
I went deep.
It was a good time, though.
No, I mean.
Hold on, DP.
Hold on.
Let's, I don't know if you're listeners,
no.
Oliver passed away about three or four months ago.
Yeah, Oliver Miller,
the late grade Oliver Cooper, Mark.
Yeah, rest of peace.
Yeah, cancer.
But yeah, that was a good time when we went out there and hit a few out the park.
And I wasn't even really a hitter.
I was a pitcher.
But, you know, I got a hold of one.
I got a hold of one, and the rest was history.
We had Brad Tamin, the GM from the Salt Lake Bs on one of my shows.
And he pointed out a historical fact.
He said in all of our years of having media and fans come in and take batting practice,
there are only two people who ever went yard and it was being ever great.
Well, I think I got a sweet for a game and I invited it.
I think I can have about 12.
I brought up there.
It was a good time.
Yeah, yeah.
It's there.
Of course, I couldn't leave the infill right now.
There's a whole different party.
We'll go through because I know you're busy and we'll get you out of here.
But the beauty of this thing for me and having the conversations is that you're still connected to young athletes and to the coaches.
And so you have a greater understanding for what this was.
I'll ask you this.
You average, in your senior year, you average 16 plus and seven boards for UNLV.
What would the, if you had transferred after your junior year in today's market, what would your number have been?
Well, we were talking about that.
After my sophomore year, being the six-man on that UNLV team, let's just rewind.
At one point, I was up to like 12 points playing on that really good team,
Larry and Stacey and those guys.
I would have probably this day and age, D.P.,
I would have probably got probably about $2 million, probably, about around $2 million.
My value was probably higher as if after that.
that final four run was more higher.
It was higher.
But I would have probably stayed because we would have had all of the money DP legally.
Legally had all.
Vegas.
Listen, it struck me because I was thinking about it was coming on that this current situation, financial situation in college sports existed.
during the UNLV Tarkanian run.
Right.
Bruh.
Look, it was a mini dynasty and you all would have, that thing would have, it would have even been better.
Because you'd have had more players and you allowed Las Vegas to pay your way.
Brough?
Wow.
Yeah, because back then you got a lot of your listeners and you and I talk off air about how Vegas is now.
Vegas is corporate.
back then it was you can go to one dude that owned the whole hotel
and you can go to his house you can go to his house
you can't do that anymore because you would have to go to Disney or whatever
whoever owns something so it's all corporate now so it'd have been different
I mean Larry had been about a two to three million dollars
he would have been Stacy would have been four or five million it would have just
been crazy but it was remember we were the only show in town now it's a bunch of shows
in town with hockey and state sports
is coming. We got NFL, you know, everything. So it would have been crazy, DP, and everybody
would have been paid. Nobody would have left because the money would have been so great. You didn't
have to leave. It's mind-blowing to think of L.J., Stacey, Anthony.
You all had, I mean, you had three centers that the NBA wanted that couldn't get time and couldn't
get the ball. Like it was like idea that that was happening in Vegas. And I know one day in
this lifetime, Evergrey is going to sit down and pen the stories from behind the scenes at
UNLV and Las Vegas under Tarkavian, but under an alien. No, because you know, I used to tell it. I tell
people all the time like hey tell me stories I'm like dude you're going to start my car every
morning and that's a real thing that's a real thing you're going to start my car this is
five like two or three years after that run was over I'm like are you nuts so um but um
one guy passed away about a year ago and people've been telling some stories I don't know if you
could pay attention to Larry they got a doc coming out but they was waiting and it's a real thing
If you're people in Nebraska, I mean, it's a real thing when it comes to what you hold on to.
But once this one gentleman passed away about a year ago, people have been opening up a little bit and telling some stories.
And I'm going to tell some stories eventually here on air with you and go from there because there's still one more guy.
D.P. There's one more guy.
There's still a gatekeeper, bro.
They're making sure that those stories never get told in this particular generation.
So, you know.
It's a real thing.
It's a real thing.
You want to start my car?
I have no problem to tell you.
But you got to do it everything.
I don't even have a starter anymore.
It's a Tesla.
So you can put your foot on the power.
I don't even know how that work.
But anyway, but yeah, I'll definitely try to open them up a little bit and start telling
some two stories.
You know, Bach, I just want to point this out, that Ever Gray, who hasn't played the league
in 20 years.
is driving a 10.
I just,
you and LV just breaks it different.
I'm just going to tell you all that he hasn't paid for a hotel
casino suite in Las Vegas since the 90s.
So, hey, Ev, what's your schedule?
Are you available for the next break or now?
Yeah, I'm available.
Yeah, we're not leaving for a while.
So I'm here we can get into that Ace Bailey thing
because that's hilarious too.
Yes, sir.
All right.
So we'll go to break, top of the hour.
every grade will stay with us.
We'll talk about the NBA draft.
And more A.L.
stories, because quite frankly, the numbers are mind-blocking.
Every great big Vakhoven.
I got some stories.
I got some stories, too.
I got some kids in the portal that sign.
So I can get into that too a little bit if you want.
All right, brother.
We'll be right back second hour one-on-one.
