Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to one-on-one with DP. Sponsored by Beatrice Bakery on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com. Welcome back. They did not, they didn't, they didn't do a wrestling list. I saw somebody ask where Rick. I didn't even know who the goats for wrestling. Where Rick Flair was. Who are the gullet?
Starting point is 00:00:20 Who are the, what's the, we do it? I would do, you know what I would do tomorrow. I apologize in advance because tomorrow I'm going to do a wrestling top 60s. four bracket. Oh my goodness. And then we'll get to the Sweet 16. Please do. And then the final four of wrestling.
Starting point is 00:00:37 But when you do it, you have to, after you finish filling it out, you have to tweet a picture of it and see what people. Oh, I'm all giddy over that. That's how you do it. I'm all excited about that. Honestly, no, you know what? You know what? After you get it written out, use your best handwriting, first off, sir.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Yeah. Use your best handwriting. Send it to me. I'll tweet it out and I'll just have a thread of polls going. for like four like a little four hour poles every time it ends i'll update it with a little bracket and then we'll have new polls and we'll see who ends up winning oh my goodness uh phelps is on the list yep phelps is there uh jesse owens is there so i saw somebody ask we didn't he was hiding somewhere jeremy says these brackets are a lesson of futility however they make for these
Starting point is 00:01:23 discussions concept of trying to compare sports with each other let alone different eras in history is ludicrous. How do you compare Jim Thorpe to the Catholic today? Yeah, I mean, if you just did DeCathletes. Those are athletes. Right? DeCathlet, I mean, Rayford Johnson, Bruce Jenner. Remember the guy, Daily.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Remember they had a couple Olympics ago, but they tried to say, this guy or that guy, and then neither guy won. Ashton Eaton broke the world record at the U.S. Olympic trials and then went on and defended his world record. at the Olympics won gold and like immediately retired tiny pick says bo jackson is greatest athlete of all time so you could put dion in that dion didn't even make this liz which sport would you put dion in he was good in both you put him in athletes great in both you put him in athlete yeah you right we put
Starting point is 00:02:13 we would put him in the olympians category where we have bo jackson dan and dave good called uh cool hand look, Dan and Dave. Yeah, Jesse is on the list, but that's the thing you would put. Earnhardt is on the list. Phelps is on the list. Yeah, Jesse Owens is a 13 seed going up against Mike Tyson. I am so doing a wrestling list. A wrestling bracket has to happen.
Starting point is 00:02:40 And also, they have one softball player, Jenny Finch. And it would not, yeah. And one WNBA player, Diana Tarasi. Is Tarasi the goat, though? I didn't think she. was but apparently they have her as this is the bet online ultimate bracket is le is it is it leslie is she the goat is it i thought i thought it was either sherrell or sue or cooper cooper might be the goat coop might be well Cheryl mills the goat no you sure
Starting point is 00:03:11 sure mill is the greatest women's basketball player ever lived but she her time she didn't have the wmba to work from by fact i think this wmba happened because of Cheryl, and then Cheryl got injured and couldn't actually fulfill what was needed. From a timing aspect, it was terrible. So this bet online thing actually did what I was going to do for your wrestling one. I don't know if you want to go through all, but they had the voting and the votes are final. They were posted four days ago, at least for the first round. For the first round.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Yeah. So Michael. Let's give the basketball list. Okay, the basketball list is Michael Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kareem, Wilt, Bill Russell, Hakim, Kobe, Shaq, LeBron. Is there anybody not on the list that should be on this? How many athletes are there?
Starting point is 00:04:08 How many basketball players are on that list? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. So that is that your top ten? Apparently that's the top ten. So read them again. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Ed Bill Jabbar Bill Chamberlain
Starting point is 00:04:22 Bill Russell Akeem O'Hleajumann Kobe Bryant Shaquille O'Neal LeBron James Is Duncan maybe the only one that doesn't
Starting point is 00:04:32 Maybe Duncan wasn't flashy enough I have him in my top 10 He wasn't flashy enough For the general public Maybe Not in the top 10 Jerry West
Starting point is 00:04:42 Not in the top 10 No Right Right Unfortunately Top 25. And then top 10 football players. Football.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Football, football. Also 10. Tom Brady. Aaron Rogers, too early. Even though he's. Oh, absolutely. Too early. Like, just crossed through that.
Starting point is 00:05:01 He has, like, you have one Super Bowl. Sorry. Circle that and then just prepare. I'm sorry. Aaron Rogers is done. His first round, I don't know who he's facing. He's done. Peyton Manning.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Joe Montana. Barry Sanders. Randy Moss. Jerry Rice. Lawrence Taylor. Walter Payton. Jim Brown. Is that your time?
Starting point is 00:05:19 top 10? Close. Is Emmett not in the top? Emin is not on this list. Is Emmett a better running back than Barry Sanders or Walter Payton or Jim Brown? I know he has the record, but is he better.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Did OJ do it long enough? Yes, Lord. Remember, he retired even number one. Yeah. Interesting. Off the field issues apparently count. Interesting. Well, no.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Then the whole list changes. That whole list changes, if that's the case. If off the field issues counted, there's... That whole list changes. Baseball is real short. Top ten baseball players. What is it? Well, there's more...
Starting point is 00:06:03 I think there's more than 10. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, eleven. Okay, top ten baseball, go. Babe Ruth. Joe DiMaggio, Roger Clemens. Ooh, not on the list. Not in the top ten. No.
Starting point is 00:06:16 No. No. No. No. No. No. has an award named after him. But.
Starting point is 00:06:23 There's an award named after him, D.P. Don't do this. Don't do this. Well, that means it like Steincooler and Ryan. Like there's a good award. There are a bunch of folks who have awards named after them who don't make the top. Good award. All right.
Starting point is 00:06:35 It's a professional award, not a college award. Keep going. Ted Williams. Yes. Lou Gehrig. Yes. William Ayes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Barry Bonds. Yes. Mike Trout. No. Mickey Mantle. Hank Aaron. Hank Henry Aaron. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Wow. That's tough. list. That's a good list. Although you need to take Roger and Trout off. Yeah. Yes, you do. You absolutely do.
Starting point is 00:06:58 When it comes to baseball, nobody that is currently, that is playing right now, nobody that is playing right now should be included in Goet Talk when it comes to baseball. Correct. Football, you have one. Correct. I agree with that. Basketball, you have one. I agree with that.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Baseball, you have none. Not yet. No, you do. I agree. But you have none. I agree with that. I agree with that. So there's literally no way for us to get to a top.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Larry Bird, great basketball player, but not an athlete. That is a lie. Graceful. He is an athlete. Spelled that just that way. Athlete. No, that's the Nolan Richardson. Who's that brother?
Starting point is 00:07:47 That brother can ball. That white boy good. I just love how Larry Bird, there's that one, that one story about Larry Bird is just like, they got the, they got the audacity to have a white boy guard me. I'm like, Larry. I'm offended. Larry. Larry!
Starting point is 00:08:07 What are you doing? I'm doing whatever I want. That's what Larry says. Who's ready to come a second? Larry Bird was a, man. I'm going to get to this spot. I'm trying to think. I'm going to take a shot.
Starting point is 00:08:19 I'm going to hit in your face. So does Dr. J not make? I don't know. I don't. I can't speak on that one. And we throw out away a lot, Oscar Robertson. We throw away. Oscar Robinson just kind of gets thrown to the wayside.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Steph Curry, who changed the game. Well, I guess two people who could be there playing today could be considered. I'm not saying they are considered. Stephen Brown. Katie. Katie. Oh, great Katie. Katie is in that space.
Starting point is 00:08:48 If Katie doesn't miss two years of his career. Yeah, but a lot of guys miss the years. There's a dip. There's like a dip, but two, two years consecutively, where we didn't hear anything really about him. That hurts his goatedom. Then, and I'll say this. I'll ask this.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Is there a male tennis player who's better than Serena? No. No. Right? Like, Serena dominated. Like nobody was winning majors without going through Serena. on the men's side you had roger you had but martina i was i'm old enough to remember when martina changed tennis like body types style of play martina challenged all that like martina they
Starting point is 00:09:36 were like i mean they made songs about martina please go to mcdonald's and start eating big macks so we have a chance to win tennis tournaments like have another big mat eat some more fries Well, sometimes the ones that change the game don't really get noticed as much because they were there. They were there at the turn and they forced the turn, but maybe it just didn't hold up. Yeah. Chris Everett. Like, I mean, there are women tennis players who if you, like, I'm not sure we can even do like the top 10 women tennis players and come to an agreement. I mean, I could.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Well, then do it now. Go ahead. I can't do 10. I can't do 10. I can just see Serena. It's just Serena. That's it. That's all I got.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Well, but I mean, Margaret Court dominated. She was not likable, but she dominated. Yvonne Gulidong Kali. Again, dominated. It wasn't likable. And they were competitive, meaning that they had their runs. Steffie Graff. Steffy belongs in the conversation because Steffey, again, changed it.
Starting point is 00:10:42 But did anybody dominate? Monica Sell us before the stabbing, before she got stabbed. Because she was number one in the world. But did anybody dominate to the level of Serena for the length of time that Serena did? Martina. So it would just be those two. Martina changed how people prepared and how they planned and how they, I mean, Chrissy Everett in any other era is the queen.
Starting point is 00:11:06 And Chrissy Ever is like, well, I don't want to play her anymore. Like that was the battle was that it was Chrissy versus Martina. Yeah. And I do not want to have this discussion. about Venus Williams being in discussion. Like what Venus did on any other, if she was anybody else other than Venus Williams, if she was Venus Jones,
Starting point is 00:11:26 she'd be number two in the conversation. I mean, it's just comparing her to her sister. Right, like talk about breaking down barriers. Those two. Venus went first. Like Venus. Those two together when they played duos or what is doubles?
Starting point is 00:11:41 There we go. I know it was a D. I was like, I was like, what is the duos? That's not right. Doubles. When they played doubles, it was just,
Starting point is 00:11:47 disgustingly amazing. So I think as we have these discussions, that, and that's a big part of it, right, is that each person kind of identifies what greatness is to them. And it helps us identify what greatness means to you. Yeah, I mean, Sanderson says the thing, women weren't supposed to have muscles back when Martina played. She changed the way people look at female athletes. One, because, I mean, and you remember, when Martina came over, to America, Martina was not fit. Like, by her own description,
Starting point is 00:12:22 she was chubby. She was chubby. Like, she was like, no, I, you know, I was carrying weight and I played a strong game.
Starting point is 00:12:28 And she said, I just simply changed the way that I was going to go about it. And I'll once again tell you, uh, real, and there aren't enough women basketball players on this list. No.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Immediately I can say that because Cheryl Miller falls, Cheryl Miller should be there before to rise. Like, it just, it did. But, but I got to play two-on-two basketball with a buddy, with my best friend at Old Dominion against Nancy Lieberman, who might be the, in that top of greatest basketball players ever. She's in the conversation and Martina Navratelo. And they were on to play full court.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Sounds like an auto loss for you. Full court, two-on-two. No. Rico? No, no. See, why would I? I allow myself to be talked in that, but that was ego. Because it's a story.
Starting point is 00:13:23 That was ego. That was ego. Like you would just. And maybe you think, yeah, at the time, you're just like, well, I was young. I thought, you know, look, I could, I could handle this. Oh, yeah. Well, yeah. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:33 I would have caught me in college and you would have, yeah, let's do it. Let's do it. Let's go. And then, like, by the third game, you hate everything. Oh, yeah. Everything about the decision. You're just wondering why none of your shots are going in. Oh, because you have no legs.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Like, you have no legs sweats in your eye. Like, and they're just laughing at you. And they weren't even breathing hard. They weren't even breathing hard. You're like, I hate you so much. I'm a collision athlete. I hate you so much. I'm Division I can do this.
Starting point is 00:13:58 I hate you so much. They beat us so bad. And they're just like, all right, warm up's done. I hate you so much. We did get dinner out of it. But it's, I hate you. I would hope you got something. It was terrible.
Starting point is 00:14:11 It was terrible. Some pictures. It was awful. We'll throw it the break. We'll close out 101 to get you set up for the captain show. But yeah, this list. And then tomorrow, I'm just telling you, I know that I have listeners who will immediately come to with,
Starting point is 00:14:25 I need their sweet 16. They didn't have to do top 64. I need their sweet 16. So we'll have that list and we'll finish this goat list when we come back. Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 937 the Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
