In 1909, the University of Nebraska constructed Nebraska field on the corner of North 10th Street and T Street in downtown Lincoln School's first only, first football-only stadium. However, its wooden construction meant and limited seating capacity meant that after less than 10 years, there was significant momentum to the building of a larger steel and concrete stadium for the Huskers. Now, as it was old since 1907, the university began plans to build a new stadium at the site of Nebraska field. Enthusiasm for the fundraiser effort was high following the death of former Nebraska football Captain Dusty Rhodes, who was killed an accident in France during World War I. Due to slow post-war economy, the scope of the project was decreased to just football,
Starting point is 00:01:32 though the Nebraska Coliseum was ultimately completed next door to Memorial. stadium just three years later. When the fundraising amount, Target was $450,000 of it met, construction began, and groundbreaking ceremony was held April 23rd, 1923. Construction was completed of the War Memorial Stadium. Morris Stadium was dedicated the following week to honor Nebraska's who served in the American Civil War and the Spanish American War and the 751 Nebraska War and the 751 Nebraska's who died World War I.

Starting point is 00:02:24 was made in, or supposed to be made in 1941 for the extra football facility along the stadium's north side end zone. It was quickly halted due to the United States entertainment in World War II. Construction resumed after the war and completed in 46, and it was named the Schulte complex. After longtime track and field coach and former football coach, Henry Schulte,
Starting point is 00:02:53 passed away in 44 while construction was paused. They used that building until 2006 when the Osborne Athletic Complex was constructed on the site. So the Schulte Fieldhouse, which was a which was completed in 46, was taken over by the Osborne Athletic Complex in 2006. Got it and get it done. Got it and get it done. All right, Rico.
