Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation, on 93-7 the ticket. Woo-hoo. Chris. Pleet. On the board. Building back at the graph is back at it again.
Starting point is 00:00:53 DeMorne-Pierce-Nal back at it again, young Wyman closing the show. He's the stopper. He's the closer. I guess so. He's the closer. Finish the game. Wyman, finish the game.
Starting point is 00:01:06 I do not want the ball back kind, sir. I got you. I do not want the ball back. We got a question from the text line. Stargkin Bennett asked the best Dave Matthews band song in your opinion, in my opinion. This is a beautiful thing. Two step. Two step.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Ants marching is kind of the anthem and there's a full range. I mean, his song list is incredible. but my own personal favorite, the one that resonates and vibrates with me, is two-step. Two-step. And if you're not familiar with it, go find it. I've never led you wrong when it comes to music. So Dave Matthews band Two-Step. He would play in, I'm telling you, man, the bars that existed back in Charleston,
Starting point is 00:02:03 this is all UVA student-based, right? So he's in the fold. and he was just the coolest guy. A thing that happens, and I don't know when the barrier is, that rock musicians cross the bridge from being a high school or local band and being remarkably cool
Starting point is 00:02:29 to making it in becoming douche, and becoming too much. too big for their bridges. My favorite bands tend to be the ones who cross the bridge and stay cool. That's kind of how that works. Is that my favorite band and favorite artists, and there's a list of folks. Melissa Ethridge is one of my favorite people who happen to be singers.
Starting point is 00:03:05 She asked me, I was hanging out in Greensboro. she was doing a concert at an amphitheater, at a theater. And I was asked to record another band that was playing because they wanted some live footage for, for video, music video they were doing. And she walked in, right? And just as a matter of fact, right? And she walks up as though at this point, nobody knows who Melissa Etheridge, she walks up, yeah, Missy.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Sure. Yeah, she goes, playing next. Are you around? Are you available to, like, shoot my concert? I was like, first of all, I know who you are. Like, why would you do that?
Starting point is 00:04:00 Like, in the building where you're on the marquee. And she just starts laughing. She hugs me. She goes, I don't want to assume. She goes. And she goes, you're a brother. I don't know. or my music or not. I'm like, we are. You're a soul sister. You know that. You sing like you,
Starting point is 00:04:19 you've been around some people before. And she asked that we would film it. So we had the crew. Now, mind you, here's another, here's a sports connect to this thing. The guy that I was there with, we were working with, so he was a schoolteacher and a high school coach in Virginia. And some of his students were shooting this as a project for his, for his class. but he and I were doing business because we were doing a TV, a football TV show together time. His name is Tony Lilly. Tony Lilly.
Starting point is 00:04:57 And Tony Lilly was the starting safety for the Denver Broncos when they took the pummeling from the Washington Redskins. Now, mind you, he lived in D.C. he caught heat all the time. And he talks about, I mean, some of our episodes, as a matter of fact, he's been on the ticket a couple of times. Matter of fact, I need to call him to have him back on. And then I think about it.
Starting point is 00:05:26 But he's there. And I said, let me ask my guy if he's, if he's willing to shoot this, right? And he'll have his guy shoot it. But I had to ask Tony. And Tony turns the corner and walks up. And I'm like, hey, T, we just got asked to extend. and he does what most of us mortals would do is go, oh my God, Melissa Edwards.
Starting point is 00:05:51 And she goes, oh, my God, Tony Lilly. So now they're in a mutual admiration thing going on. And I'm standing in the middle of them, just like, yeah, this is, this is kind of what it was. So we shot the video, we shot a full concert. Imagine that being on my resume that I'm the producer for a Melissa Etheridge live, live concert video, myself and Tony
Starting point is 00:06:14 of the Broncos. And he tells the story of all the things that people remember from that, the play that he remembers most from that Super Bowl. And he doesn't remember
Starting point is 00:06:23 a lot of it because there's one play that he remembers the most. And it was a Timmy Smith run, one of several. And he said that I got folded up like I've never been folded up before.
Starting point is 00:06:40 He goes, art monk caught me on a crackback and folded me like a bad sandwich and he has the play on literally he has the play on his phone just to remind him really good high school coach state champion in Virginia 6A 4A really good dude
Starting point is 00:07:06 but yeah there's there's there's there are those folks. Totally Lily is a really good dude. And that was the show. As a matter of fact, we would tour, we would go down. We covered the Hootie golf tournament every year, Monday after the Masters.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Are you familiar with that at all? Sounds familiar. Monday after the Masters. And it's been picked up. It's like an ESPN thing now. But I want to say it's 25 years. I would say 90, 30, years.
Starting point is 00:07:43 30 years. It has to be 30 years. At least 30 years. Monday after the Masters, who do you blowfish tournaments in South Carolina every year? It started in Columbia, moved to Myrtle Beach.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Yeah, I think it's still in Myrtle Beach. Down at Barefoot, golf and resort, great course in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. For you golfing folks, find your way down to go to who,
Starting point is 00:08:11 Hooty golf. Just type in hooty golf. And it brings up Monday after the masters. Exactly 30 years. 30. On the dot. Not 31, not 29. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:08:22 30. I'm good because that's the age of the Carolina Panthers. So the Panthers were, oh, started in 94. Yep. And the year after is when the golf tournament started happening. You get the phone call. Hey, do you want to come down an MC golf tournament? And I was like,
Starting point is 00:08:39 sure, not knowing whose tournament was or what was going on, but the fact that we were living in Charlotte, year one of the Panthers was technically at Clemson. So year one, the Panthers played their games at Death Valley. And all their training camps, Spartan Tucky, Spartansburg, South Carolina. And then year two,
Starting point is 00:09:02 the Erickson Stadium was built and everybody moved back there. But, you know, you're the new, you're the new stars in town. And there's Hooty from South Carolina. And they become, you know, friends and family. They were friends with my housemate, Matt Elliott. And so we would,
Starting point is 00:09:22 they would just include us in. So we would go down there. And it's when I tell you the stunning part, because it kind of co-partnered with Jim Valvano in the Valvano golf tournament. They never give up Valvano, the Jimmy V classic. Yep.
Starting point is 00:09:38 which is probably 34 years old, somewhere along those lines. But they would do them. The Jimmy V. Class was in Raleigh. The Monday after the Masters was in Columbia and Myrtle Beach so that the golfers from the Masters who did not make the cut could drive to South Carolina and play in the tournament. And then the people who actually made the cut and played Sunday,
Starting point is 00:10:08 night could drive up and play. And it's, I mean, it's everybody. So for, it's a four day party. Let's just say, call it what it is. And a great concert to close it Monday night. So imagine hoot in the blowfish, Edwin McCain, uh, sister Hazel. Every other year or so, Alice Cooper would get up in jam. every single year John Daly gets up and sings which is an amazing thing there's a great video online of Daley singing
Starting point is 00:10:47 on stage with Hoody and then they kind of do a medley of everybody doing some of the folks from REM all the different bands some folks from Bon Jovi David Brian would come down and do his thing and every it's every athlete
Starting point is 00:11:04 I mean it's Sterling Sharp Shannon Sharp. It's Samuel Jackson's there every year. Bernie Cozard, Dan Marino. It's a festival. I mean, it is a power pack. Rick Flair is always there. It's an amazing event.
Starting point is 00:11:21 It's amazing event. You could pull up last year's Monday after the Masters and read the celebrity list and the golf list. I've told Jake Sorensen that we need to do it. We need to just concede whatever we're doing, that weekend just to go down there. Pull up the celebrity list. I'm looking at some of the...
Starting point is 00:11:42 Okay, read off some of what you see. Let's see who we got in here. Just some names that stick out to me reading down the list here. I don't know if this is fully the list here, but I did see, like you said, Dan Marino was listed in there, which is like Mike Golick, Mike Golick Jr. is listed in there.
Starting point is 00:12:00 It's funny because some of the celebrities, you know, are down the bottom of the bottom of the state is sometimes. Right. So we'll just keep scrolling here and just see who stands out. Bruce Smith. Yep. He's on there. Just a lot of the athletes.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Jackie Bradley was there. Also, Jimmy V. Classic, 31 years. So right, right, right, right before. Right. Andrew, Andrew Copeland, Alex English from the Denver Nuggets, Grant Fuhr from Edmonton. Is he the great goalie or top two? He's on the Mount Rushmore goal.
Starting point is 00:12:34 100%. Right? All the ESPN folks are there. Dan Patrick, Dan Patrick got second. Well, they broadcast from down there. Because they broadcast. And so I would set up on the 18th hole. And then I would just catch everybody as they came through.
Starting point is 00:12:49 And at that moment, you know, it's a full rotation, right? So there's tons of people. Nancy Lieberman is always there. Ryan Leif is there. Corey Miller from the Giants in South Carolina. George Rogers, the Heisman Trophy winner, who I love. MC Surge, Steve Sterling Sharp, Steve Smith, Sr., is always there.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Michael Waltrip, there's tons of Bernie Williams from the Yankees, Gerald Green from the Redskins, Chris Kirkpatrick from Insink. It's a full-on major event, and it's just fun. I keep telling Jake Sorensen that he needs to come down. Just to play, one to play barefoot, two to hang out with the guys from Hooty.
Starting point is 00:13:32 and it's a great course. It really is a great course. Of course, you're going to hang out with John Daley. Woody Austin is there. Robert Games is always there. Davis Love the Third, of course, they're friends with Woody. When you make the song, you're kind of a friend for life.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Charlie Rimer is amazing. Paul Woodbury. There's some folks down there. It's Becky, I took Becky down. Okay. And we went down, as a matter of fact, we've done a couple of tours. And then she gets it. Like, it's the best marketing, best event, House of Blues concert Monday night.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Great insight to musicians and the connection. The greatest volume of cigar smoke that I've ever been around because everybody's doing it. But yeah, it's a full-on thing. So it'll be my mission to get Jake Sorensen down there. He'd like it. It's his thing. Yeah, Two-Step is amazing. Did you go to Millers?
Starting point is 00:14:44 Yeah, that was, that was. And bartender, again, that's one that was written there at the bar. That's the best part of being around with musicians and being, you know, Darius record, some of his best stuff is written on a napkin. at a bar 2 o'clock in the morning. So you find out that sort of stuff and you deal with it.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Through most of what's going on, and again, I sent out a text to ask if anybody knew who the music act was for Spike's Southern the Like. Nobody knows. This is top flight security of the world. They're not letting anybody know what this is. But again, I don't think they have to.
Starting point is 00:15:30 I think you probably wait to see what the ticket sales are. And then now that you've met your number, you can improve. Like you didn't want to have a big time act and have 20,000 people there. Although if you had 20,000 people for volleyball, that's not a bad, it's not a bad event. Why is it not being publicized? There's 82,000 people going to be at this volleyball. Are there, are there, do you, have you heard of any hustles? fans that are going?
Starting point is 00:16:02 I haven't heard any off the top of my head, but I think if you're spending all that money for, like you said, if you're getting that VIP package, you'd like to know who the post-game concert is. Well, but you've got decent ticket prices. Ready for this?
Starting point is 00:16:16 It's cheaper to go watch a game there than it is here. So, and we know Husker fans love to travel, but as I told you, I rattled off some tickets that you can go and watch in that state. you know, for 40, 50 bucks. So that's not the problem. And again, there's, I don't think there's going to be a bad seat in the stadium.
Starting point is 00:16:42 But the floor seats, like, again, imagine, I don't know what people paid to be on the floor of Memorial Stadium. But I would imagine it was over the $1,000 mark. So, plus you had a Scotty McCurry concert. Do they run it back? Maybe he's available. I would think that that's in play. He fits the market, right? He fits the market.
Starting point is 00:17:16 You find out where Scotty's on tour. Literally that's what I'm doing. Literally on tour is if Scotty's on tour. Oh, he's booked the next day in Wisconsin. But it's the next day. It's the next day. It's the next day you can get, he'll fly. Well, he'll charter.
Starting point is 00:17:31 the road crew's not going to be happy but Scotty McGory has I would imagine he has two two sets like two kids he has an advanced crew I can't imagine he's doing one bus one band So they're in two days
Starting point is 00:17:47 They're in Georgia And then he's off until the 28th He's not off Cedarsburg He's not off Off from events Scotty you sly dog Going all the way
Starting point is 00:18:01 because Cedarsburg, Wisconsin. So, I mean, like you said, cancel Cedarsburg. It's two days in a row there at Cedar Creek Park. Oh, Cedar Creek. Okay, I understand what that is. Do a quick Google check for distance between Arlington, Texas, and Ciddleman.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Distance. Here we go. Right? Because I would think, 12 hours? 12 hours? 10 hours? Because you need the full setup time. but the beauty of it is that you're only setting up once for two days.
Starting point is 00:18:37 It's about a 14, 15 hour drive. Yeah, that's, that's, but on, is he playing on the 28th? He is. Oh, Scotty. And the 29th. You dog, you. I don't, I don't know, man. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Just for grins and giggles, where's Darius Rucker on September? Let's take, let's see a peek. Let's peak where, we're the, these are country acts that would, would show up for this sort of thing. So look at the concert schedule for Darius Rucker. So he is upcoming in late 2026. So he is his first upcoming concert. So he's got time.
Starting point is 00:19:18 September 17th and yes where Salt Lake City, Utah. That will be a win. September 17th, 2026. They are really, where's he playing? Days of 47 Arena. The old salt palace? That's what it says here. Does it say Salt Lake City?
Starting point is 00:19:35 city proper? It's a Salt Lake City UT, so I'm assuming that's Yeah. Let's go to his website here. The days of 45. No, that doesn't. Yep, he is. It's on his website here. Days of, it doesn't say Delta Center. It doesn't say Usana.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Nope. Days of 47 Arena. Google that. I don't know where that, what is that? We're learning things on the flight. Maybe that's, well, because they have a new baseball stadium. Oh, it's a, it's like a, it's like, it's like a stock car like race area here. I'm looking at the images here.
Starting point is 00:20:10 It's like a stock car like like like dirt track area. Oh, it was named something else back in the day. When I was there, it was because we used to broadcast from there. We would do, man, which is the thing that we should have done with Eagle Raceway, but we, we would broadcast live from this from the raceway. Yeah, that is the days of, okay, that's. So do you understand, do you know what? what the days of 47 are?
Starting point is 00:20:37 No. So every year Utah has its own Independence Day. Okay. Its own independence day. They have fireworks and all. Because that's the day that they arrived over the planes and decided this is the place. This is the place.
Starting point is 00:20:57 And the days of 1847. You like it. I like it. I like it. I like. They shoot fireworks. And listen, you want to have some fun, ask somebody from Utah, while you shoot off more fireworks for your Independence Day than Irish. They will fight you. They will fight you.
Starting point is 00:21:20 They will fight you over that. Yeah, it's pretty good. Okay. But so the 17th, what day of the week is that? That's a Saturday. I believe that's a Saturday because the. Doggone it. And that's a number.
Starting point is 00:21:36 night game for the Huskers here. I'll check. Night game against September 17th is a Thursday because the fifth is a Saturday, the 12th, 19th. So September 17th. But then the next day he's in Las Vegas, Nevada at the sandbar for his second
Starting point is 00:21:52 date on his tour on the Friday night. He has he has some really close friends in Salt Lake City. I'm going to have you just put something else on my couch. I listen, if Darius Rutgers playing Salt Lake City, I need to be there. Is the first, first the, the, I need to be there because I know, I know how this is going to go down.
Starting point is 00:22:16 I know how this is going to go down. Add it to the list. And then I'll come back Friday for the game on Saturday. That has to happen. That's my guy and we've done, Darius and I have done seven Salt Lake City concerts together. Well, he does the concert, but I'm just hanging out. That's a matter of fact, I posted a picture from it on my stories today. One of the pictures, I added like 20 pictures.
Starting point is 00:22:48 One of them is Darius from Salt Lake 2. So that's it. All right, Wyman, I'm going to, I'm, my, yeah, my, my poor calendar. My calendar is a mess. Added, added one more extra day. Shambles. All right, we'll take another break. More one-on-one coming up.
